GO TO CLASS.If you don't go to her class you will do horrible on the tests.I hardly went for one chapter, failed the test, went almost everyday for another and got a B.She is kinda funny at times and doesn't talk fast.
She is awesome! She is so full of information, very learned in the history surrounding each period and the works of art. Answered all my questions thoroughly and was super-nice. She is, like, sardonically funny. You have to study and go to class to do well on the test but its totally worth it.
She knows a ton and I learned a lot in her class. She's funny if you're paying attention, but the class can be boring (not really her fault, ARS 102 is a dark room with nothing but slides, if you take it in the mornings, it's easy to fall asleep). As long as you go to class, it's easy to do well in.
Lewis is an awesome and intelligent teacher. She has dry humor and it totally funny! You really do need to go to class and pay attention but you will learn so much from her!
She's so nice, and her class is pretty interesting. Plus, her course packet only cost 6 bucks, so she's on my good list. haha.
She's dullllll.
I've had her for ARS102 and now in ARS394 (Egypt) and she's a great teacher. As the apprentice of Nancy Serwint, she's doing really good. Like Serwint, she makes boring subjects interesting. Also, like Serwint, I go to class, drift in and out of sleep, never read anything for the class and don't take notes or study and get A's. My friends have to study, though. But go to class :-)

I took this class online... she is a very nice lady and very helpful, but I thought the tests were SOOOO hard... I would study a TON and still get a C, and then not study at all and still get a C... weiiiird. It was very interesting though, and the homework questions and essays were easy.
Lectures are obscenely boring, but it is hard to make art history a "fun" subject to learn. She makes up for them sometimes with witty lines that make everyone laugh. Go to the review sessions before the tests at all costs. I suggest recording them or taking good notes - they will make the tests (which are online) a breeze.
I like her, I think she's nice, but sometimes she's kind of hard to follow. Her lectures are boring, but necessary. Not everything she talks about and tests on is in the book. The tests themselves are pretty easy. If the majority of the class has a problem on a question she throws it out.
Took the class online. It's a very doable class, she gives an outline of what she will test you on, though the tests usually contain more than what she says. Go to her office hours and review with her before a test, she'll mention stuff she thinks is important, and it's all almost always on the test.
I took this online. If you go to her office hours, she is very helpful. Otherwise the tests can be kind of hard, wth lots of detailed material. Do the readings and follow the outline, though, and you should be fine.
I took this class online, and some parts were easy and others hard. The class was divided into 3 units, with questions, an essay and an exam for each unit (everything done online). The questions and essay were pretty easy and interesting... but the exams were very hard. Much of the exam material was obscure and not covered.
I took this class online, so I don't know much about the teacher except that the grading system was great. I got feedback on most of my essays and felt my grades were very accurate.
I took this class online. It is not an easy class, but if you follow her outlines for each unit, do the readings and put a little effort into the short writing assignments, you will do fine. She gave great feedback on most writing assignments.
Adele's classes are easy. She's very straightforward, I've had her for 2 classes now and though she may seem very dull, she's also very amusing when you take the smaller classes with her. Go to class and take basic notes, and you'll be fine. I spent half of Egyptian art in the back playing sudoku and I still got an A in the class. :D
You do need to go to class, but she's a great teacher!
Wonderful teacher, pretty easy class once you do the assigned readings. Very fair grader, and I took the class online but the tests had exactly the same information as was covered on the outlines. I would definitely recommend taking this class and also any other classes that she teaches.
Lewis is brilliant! I've had her for two ancient courses and she's great. Her lectures are clear, relevant, and she's not super serious about the material. She isn't tricky with her tests at all, but make sure you go to class every day. I would definately reccommend any of her classes.
One of the best professors I've had! Lectures are interesting. She is really nice and doesn't talk down to students. Her tests are multiple choice and really easy if you study a little. She reviews for exams in class and offers extra credit. and no essays! On top of it all, I learned SO MUCH! She's just awesome all around :)
She is a great instructor. I had her for 102 also. She is very clear about everything she expects and gives you everything you need to know in the lecture. You dont even really need to buy the book. Just make sure you go to all the classes, review a bit, and youre almost promised an a on the tests!
Dr Lewis is a gift to her students. Her lectures are always well constructed and fascinating. Grading is fair and clear, with opportunity for extra credit if you need it. If you want to do well, go to class, enjoy the lectures (and her occasional irreverence) and take notes.
Not a good experience. Questions on tests are vague, grades on written work seem to depend on the mood she's in rather than on set criteria. Will only answer your questions if you make an appointment. Not helpful.
Questions are very vague, and a lot of the time the answers weren't even in the book. Not a fun experience.
She is AMAZING! I really like her lectures, even though it CAN get boring, she does have a good sense of humor and is very amusing. I'm taking her Egypt class at Chandler-gilbert and think I am doing fairly well. She explains everything thats needed on the test in an outline and all you need to do is take responsibility and STUDY!
This class was an overview of myth and religion in the ancient world. Lectures were clear and the test questions had all been covered in class.
Not needed to attend class, she gives a packet on everything you need to study in the very beginning. Tough Tests, relatively boring. Well... If you have an early class with her. Bring a pillow and blanket. because you will be asleep. I recommend this class for insomniacs. This will put you to sleep!
You have 2 essays. Says you're not expected to know material... but then grades them like you were, despite effort made! Difficulty with microphone (not her fault)... Didn't have it fixed all semester! Didn't seem to care= Lectures difficult to follow. Knows the material, gives tons of info. not specific= possible to study wrong things for test!
AWESOME! Man this lady knows her stuff...great lectures which can get a little boring at times but that is kinda the nature of the material if you know art history. Very helpful and kind and pretty funny! Loved it and am taking another one from her soon...even if you have to take a class like this and yo dont really wanna take her she is good stuff
I liked Professor Lewis a lot, she made art history interesting. Long lectures but I think that it actually is a good format (slide/lecture)cause it sticks with u & the way she teaches just makes sense! Lots of kids just wanna have an easy A for their humanities class but as long as u study a little and have some COMMON SENSE you'll be fine!!!
Clear expectations. Her study guide is what you need to succeed. Very fair grader. Would recommend this teacher.
WORST online experience at ASU (and I am a senior). Instructor is VERY condescending and not at all helpful. ZERO interaction with her or other classmates, very poor communication. AVOID THIS ONLINE CLASS AT ALL COSTS! Expectations are not clear, and feedback is incredibly rude.
She goes over everything you will need to know in class and is very easy to work with. I spent some time studing for the tests but there are only 3 the entire semester. If you go to class you will be fine and she is funny so it keeps things interesting.
She was a great teacher. I took her class online, and it was a bit difficult. Students must spend time going over the material because she covers a lot. Tests are not the easiest, but I learned so much from this class.
Lewis knows what she is talking about. I am an art history major and so far I have learned the most from her class. Her lectures might not be the most entertaining but they are the most informative. I can rattle off facts about cave paintings while I can't remember anything from the class I am taking now. Can't wait to take her class next semester!
The tests were actually hard and required a fair bit of study despite being open book and online. Course material and delivery was sub-par compared to other online courses. She is slow as hell to grade and upload marks. If this wasn't a required course for my major, I probably would have dropped the class.
She knows everything about Art History. Tests are Hard. Study A LOT. Barely Passed. Very Nice Lady. Have to decide which is useful info and which isnt. Pretty Tough class.
This teacher is an amazing teacher. Very easy to understand. She gives you everything you need to know in order to get an A.
She is a horrible ONLINE teacher. She does not post requirements for essays and then gets angry when you try to write more. STAY AWAY from her online classes. Course shifts back and forth among 3 textbooks and the tests are insane. I am never taking another ARS class, and this is my second.
Took an online class taught by her. It was organized well and the questions that she asked were ones that made you think more about the reading. The essays were interesting to write, encouraging us to look more at certain pieces. She was a little slow in grading things, but would definately take another class of her's.
Lewis is a great professor and tries to keep things as interesting as possible. She has a dry sense of humor, but it keeps you listening. Her tests are hard, esp. if you don't study. I recommend studying A LOT. Also, she grades pretty hard on the couple of essays assigned throughout the course.
I really enjoyed her class and because of her I've chosen Art History as my minor. You must attend her lectures and I would recommend using a laptop for notes because she goes very quickly. Also, she gives a syllabus that is your study guide and it is very helpful. Her tests were very difficult so definitely study throughout the semester.
Professor Lewis is so well equipped to teach this class. She is so knowledgable about the art discussed in the lecture and rarely used lecture notes. While attendance wasn't mandatory, it's wise to go to class, because I don't see how anyone could do well without taking notes from her lectures. She is very clear, and if you study you will get an A.
I am taking the online class and the grade is based on 4 hard tests. You have to know the material very well before you take the test and some questions are not even in the text. avoid taking this class if you can
THANKS, A wonderful course and a fantastic teacher! I
I have taken several classes with Adele and she is wonderful! She knows her subject well and is willing to help students whenever she can. She also usually responds to e-mails quickly.
This professor may be great in person, but she is horrible online. She does absolutely nothing to teach the class, and her emails and syllabus reek of unnecessary snarkiness. Be prepared to read the entire textbook cover to cover AND all of the supplemental readings and still not get 100% on her open book, online tests.
Even though she doesn't take attendance, GO TO CLASS! I went to every single class, never read the textbook, and got a B+. Her tests are hard, but as long as you review your notes and come to review sessions, you should be fine. She is really nice, and tries to be as helpful as possible.
Terrible for visual learners. She is monotonous and only shows the artwork so you will learn the art, but none of the information on the test.
I've had the pleasure of taking several courses with her and I think she is amazing. She is very clear on what she expects of you and her lectures are interesting. She is a fair grader and is available to help you with anything.
Clearly loves the subject, esp. Egypt. Full of interesting info, but talks fast. Says foreign names and places but doesn't spell them- difficult to look up later. All info is fair game for test. Each unit builds on the last, so don't skip a section. Didn't buy the book, but Google made up for that. 2 essays seem difficult- again Google helps a lot.
Buy the book and supplemental material she offers, it helps. Also, do any extra credit. She doesn't give much instruction on essays, but they really aren't difficult at all if you talk about the feel and ideas behind imagery. When I've spoken to her, she seems very nice. Likes to make jokes in class. Tests were harder than expected.
BUY THE BOOK
The class I took was Greek Myth in Modern Art and I took her ARS 101, and she can be a bit boring and drawn out but she makes the class interesting too. I recommend but you do need to go to class, take notes, and study hard for the tests (lots of memorizing). But overall she was a good teacher
Took this class as an elective in addition to another ARS class. By far one of the toughest online courses. Grade is 4 exams (none dropped), and alot of reading. Word of caution as open book exams are tough, even with reading done. Some answers you wont find in text, and some are just plain confusing. Would recommend different ARS class (ARS 300).
Don't underestimate going to class and reading the text. If you slack even a little on either your test scores will suffer.
GO TO CLASS. Its boring, but every word she says about a picture can be on a test. Lot's of information to memorize, write everything down and study it. Even useless stuff. Do ECredit It can make the difference from A or B. Besides that, she is very nice, and will try to help you. 2 essays, pretty easy. Just talk about every detail in the picture.
Stay away! If possible take her online class its so much better! She can get off topic or talk too fast and you'll miss notes that are crucial for the exams which are 150 questions and super hard if you do not read! Essays have to be detailed and none are dropped! Made me hate ars until Mesch for ars 102
Let me start off by saying i like this lady. I have taken 5 of her classes and i get the same quality as i did the other. Her test are hard but the subject matter is so interesting. The only thing i hate is her TA's! They grade differntly and i get the hardest one EVERYTIME! But i like her. If you dont like Art History then dont take this class.
Harder than most art classes but not too awful. Pretty good choice for online class
Nice, funny sometimes. But talks fast sometimes, making it hard to write down all she says. Tests are ok. 100 Q's. Pics are mostly easy. Multiple choice & true/false are tough though. 2 essays are easy, just write about all the important details. GO TO CLASS, TAKE GOOD NOTES, READ THE TEXTBOOK, AND STUDY. That's the only way to get a good grade.
I don't think that she is a bad teacher. I just think that it is a lot of information to take in and all she does is lecture and you have to take your own notes. Its not specified what exactly you should take notes on. Though she does give you an outline to study for the exam. I recommend meeting with her during office hours to prepare for tests.
I love her! She is funny in class and has a fun way of delivering the material. Her test are hard sometimes but she outlines everything you need to know the class before an exam.
Love her! Taken 394 and 101 with her and her tests may be difficult but she really loves what she teaches. Just go to class, take notes, study them and it's easy to get an A. One of my favorite teachers and I plan to take more classes from her just for fun.
Hard Class, I recommend taking this course if you're passionate about the subject otherwise stay away. If you don't mind studying the book from cover to cover and the supplemental reading she posts then you might do well butyor whole grade is only 4 exams each worth 100 points, no pressure...
She expects a lot from the students for the type of class it is.
I found this class really hard and boring. Her test have 100 questions and alot of them are about little details. I also found it hard to take notes because she talks fast so i would miss important details.
This class is really hard and every time i went i wanted to fall asleep.
Prof. Lewis was actually funny at times, but overall this is the hardest class I've taken in college. I crammed for her tests thinking I had it down with 90% attendance and wrote every word, yet the questions were about ridiculous erroneous details. I only have 2 semesters left, and I don't really care, but this is the first B I've gotten at ASU
Stay on top of your work or you will fall behind. I took the online course and we only had three exams, but cramming is not the way to go! Hard class and you have to be dedicated.
She is really hard! She goes over so much information, it is super easy to stop paying attention bcuz the material is boring! If you write down evey word she says, you can still miss questions on her tests. Her tests are 100 q's each,& 30 of those are true/false! U have to be prepared to take her tests, & be able to sit through her boring lectures
This class is hard! I hate this class. The questions on the quiz have to do with the TINIEST details! I will take the quiz with 3 pgs of notes and of course, i miss a whole bunch because i didn't know the most minuscule details since i was trying to focus on the main content (which there is soo much). It makes me never wanna take art again honestly.
I really don't know why people think ars 101 was hard; it was the easiest class I have ever taken. Cramming does not work though; you just need to study everything in advance and be very familiar with the material before a test.
Like mentioned above, her class is hard! But if you're interested in art history, it's good for you because you'll have all of the information memorized. Take every EC opportunity, it makes all the difference. Listen and go to all the classes, anything she says is fair game for the test. She often says what will be in the tests.
online class. VERY EASY
yes you have to attend class & yes you have to pay attention & you have to take some notes but its not a hard subject...why enroll in college if you do not plan on participating. She is a little older but I think she is funny & kinda hot for an older teacher but she does seem to really care about students & is real helpful during her office hrs
I am a huge fan of Professor Lewis. She really has a passion for what she teaches, and definitely knows what she's talking about. I love that she focused so much on critically thinking about art. Tests are not easy, but if you go to class, they're not awful either. There are a few papers in the class, but again, they're not terribly challenging.
NEED TO GO TO CLASS! for the test she gives you an outline that just covers the name and the artist, in class she goes over power points of each piece, that you have to TAKE VERY GOOD NOTES ON, def recommend going to the review sesh before the test too. extra credit? GO TO IT. she knows what she's talking about, and a very smart professor
YOU MUST GO TO CLASS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FAIL. Learn to write FAST. Ask questions. Don't hesitate to go to office hours! She is extremely helpful- show that you care! I worked my butt off in this class and pulled out with an A, but it was by no means an "easy A" if you don't memorize large quantities of info well, this will be difficult. Study.
I took this online. She was VERY considerate and helpful if you take the time to email her and see her for office hours. You MUST be willing to do the work or you will not do well in the class.
Ms. Lewis is extremely helpful. Took class online in a half semester. It was tough due to amount of information covered and remembered. Writing assignments were fairly simple, quizzes were a little challenging, tests are challenging and cover subject matter thoroughly. Read ALL chapters, supplemental reading, and STUDY!! Highly recommended!!
It is extremely difficult to predict what kind of info you will need for the exams. she is really vague in what info should be studied and incredibly specific with her test questions. If art history is not your life you will not get a good grade. Her expectations are to high for this entry level course.
She teaches Art History at CGCC and I thought she was the best. One of my most favorite classes and she kept the material super interesting and I don't like art! She was awesome, exams were a bit difficult so make sure to take a lot of notes and study them. The textbook was only used to write a paper. It was awesome.
I loved this class! Dr Lewis is a wonderful teacher and I absolutely loved her lectures. She keeps everything interesting and fun. Great sense of humor! There are no surprises on her tests... she reviews EVERYTHING the class prior. If you are there, you won't have any issues.
Easy, and very fair teacher/class.
Basically, if you don't study, you probably won't pass. She is very helpful if you ask, and is very leniant. As long as you pay attention, and study you will be fine!
I loved Dr. Lewis! I took her Greek Myth in Western Art class last year and it gave me such a passion for Greek mythology that I went on to study it on my own time. Her lectures are interesting and enjoyable. Come to class, take good notes, do the readings (our only book was Ovid's Metamorphoses), and start the papers early.
Dr. Lewis is awesome and it's really obvious she loves the stuff she's teaching about. I've had her for three art history classes so far and she is definitely my favorite professor. Follow her lectures, skim the book, and you'll do well.
Lewis bailed me out of a really crappy situation when I was a freshman and didn't know how online classes worked. She definitely cares for her students and gives them second chances. Class was pretty easy as long as you keep up with it and put in the work.
This professor made me realize just how fun, organized and easy online classes can be.She has 3-4 Modules each one being about 2 weeks apart and in which you have to complete a 20 question quiz based solely on 2-13minute online lectures and a 600word paper based on a topic discussed in the reading.+she has Outlines for the exams that HELP! DO THEM!
The class is alright, but it is very hard to tell what information is trivial vs. what is important. A few extra credit options are available, but she doesn't make it clear how/if the extra credit will be graded or applied. Attendance isn't required, but you will fail if you don't go to class.
I really enjoyed Professor Lewis. I took it online and all the due dates were laid out in advance, and the rest of the course was very well organized. The readings are a MUST for all of the work- test, essay, everything. Tip- print out all the images in the outline and write down background on each from the books- best way to prepare for the tests.
To pass this class all you need to do is show up. If you don't and know nothing about this subject you will fail. If your coming from an AP art history class it will be a breeze. Don't bother to get the book only opened it once because I didn't go to class for 4 weeks straight. Take notes if you can't listen and take notes don't take this class.
Worst professor I've ever had.
I'm an international idiot,i cant take notes and i skipped most of this subject classes and got an A. The key to this class is to attend only the revision class and write down every thing she says AND record the class on your phone for safety(she will keep it short and simple)then its up to you to memorize them or bring'em to class ;) play it smart
This class is difficult. She is a great teacher but she talks about a lot of information and it's hard to decipher if it is actually relevant to what is going to be on the test or not. I went to every class and it was still hard.
She was one of the easiest and nicest instructors I had on this campus. Her class is structured clearly: 4 quizzes, exams, and essays. It was online so I would go in for her office hours and she would basically say that the essays are not graded strictly. She is basically asking for 600 words of blunt observation and opinions. Take this class!
Ms. A. Lewis can best be summed up in three words: knowledgeable, informative, captivating.
Prof Lewis is a great lecturer. I learned a lot. Tests are hard, lots of memorization, dates, and pieces to remember. Roman & Greek art becomes challenging because of documentation, dates, and confusion with roman & greek mythology. I recommend really studying for that.
I took the online 12 semester Session B course. I'm a senior just trying to graduate, needed the credits and this is class to take. 4 mini quiz's, 4 exams to match the quiz, and 1 essay. Just make a study group and use an extra laptop and you're guaranteed an easy A. If u actually watch her lectures u will want to die. Rent textbook. DON't BUY!
It was a fairly easy course but her tests are full of trick questions and her online lectures will bore you to death. Depend on just the book and you'll end up with a C. Torture yourself with the lectures you'll get a b. Use google and both other options and youll get an A. Oh and her voice is obnoxious and she says uh every other word
Awful. As a student with a background in art history, her tests were confusing. She would list 4 correct answers, but only want you to choose the one she had mentioned in her lectures. As a result, I struggled. Knowing more than what was in the course actually HURT my grade, which is ridiculous. Hope I don't have to take her again.
Assignments and quizzes were usually very easy but the tests were hard. 4 writing assignments, 4 quizzes, 4 tests and that is it. I didn't have the textbook So that may have made a difference for others.
Took her Art History course as I needed an extra 3 credits to graduate. I actually enjoyed her lectures and found the course itself interesting. However, the exams are tough. I never got above a B on any exam even though I watched the lectures and consulted Prof. Google. Still, not a bad course if you need the credit and the Professor is likeable.
The lectures grabbed my attention; however, it was hard to remember what information was going to be on the test and what was not. Attendance is essential to pass. The tests are very hard since some of the questions can be very tricky, but most dates are not required to be memorized + extra credit is offered.
Tests are really hard and confusing. Not many points offered. Have to show up to class other wise you won't pass. Really have to look for the information.
Not recommended. Exams are confusing and have questions that were not covered in the lectures or text. Video lectures were like sleeping pills.
She was extremely cool. Her lectures are actually sort of interesting, and really easy to take notes on. We had an online book, but I never once looked at it and still got an A. Her exams are easy as long as you study the notes, and we had two essays that are a breeze.
going to the lectures is the only way you'll pass and even then you need to write everything down because she gives no notes or lectures only pictures. if your not a good not taker then don't take the class
The online course is difficult. The lectures are short and only help you with the quizzes, which are based solely on the lectures. But the exams themselves are difficult. Questions will pop up that aren't even mentioned in the book or lectures. You will need more than just the book (which is cheap) and the lectures to pass the exams.
I took the online version of this class. I purchased a previous edition of the book and found myself barely passing the tests. Apparently, the tests are an issue even with the right book. I thought the class was interesting, but there was definitely not enough help in order to pass the tests.
I took the session A of her class, it was quite a different experience. My advice for her session A, B, or possibly C is to be on the ball with her course. You will be left behind if you don't try to catch up quickly enough. To all really hard-core procrastionators - I would not recommend if you want added stress to your life.
She is tough. The lectures are interesting and thorough, but the tests are hard and seem endless. Papers are super subjective and graded by the TA, so it depends what kind of TA you have. She does offer extra credit by mid semester, but it's not enough to save you if you're real behind. Go to class. Get a note buddy.
She knows her materials very well so just pay attention to the lectures and you will pass. Her tests are a little tricky here and there but her lectures are captivating and in my opinion, she is a very well respected professor.
ARS 101 is suppose to be really really easy and for me it was not. I should have read the long chapters that are assigned, but didnt and ended up with a C. It is just not worth it when there are other classes out there that can be easier and more fun. honestly DONT TAKE this class, unless you love art prehistory thru the middle ages.
Her tests can be challenging, but if you pay attention in class you will be fine. Prepare to be asked very detailed questions. But you do not have to memorize dates, which is a huge relief.
This class was amazing. There are few things that are graded. 4 exams, 4 quizzes, maybe 2 essays, and 4 participation grades. As long as you pay attention to what she says and take good notes, you should do well. The textbook is not necessary, but it does help if you want to know more. The outlines she gives out help a lot with the exams.
Adele Lewis is intimidating at first, but if you pay attention in her lectures and write down everything she says you will be fine. BIG TIP: Make flashcards! You will be required to memorize many images of art and specific details about them. She is a good professor though.
I love Greek art and mythology, but wow was this class hard! I really had to work for the B that I got. It was a fascinating class, but I'm not thrilled with the tests. Interpreting art is subjective, but she wanted specific answers, the kind of answers that you have to read between the lines in the text to get because they weren't actually said
Assigns a lot of reading and the reading is mandatory to do well in the class. If you do the reading its very easy to get an A or B. Only 1 quiz, 1 exam and 1 paper per section/unit and the papers are short. Good class to take if you have the time to read.
Overall I didn't find the class too difficult. The complaint I have is that she doesn't seem to review her answer keys before tests. On most of our tests there were 4 or 5 questions that she had marked wrong on the key. She never corrected the grade for one. If you think there's a mistake on your test do not hesitate to see her about it.
I actually loved this class! Very simple. The course is broken up into 4 units. 2 lectures, reading, a quiz, an exam, and a 600 word writing assignment each. Writing assignment was easy. Just hit the 600 word mark and you have full credit. Quizzes are based off video lecture and exams are off the reading. Very straight forward.
Worst communicator: do not expect to get notices on when things are do. Considering it is 100% online I expected more. Exam questions are so difficult. Based upon a reading however you have no idea what parts of the reading to focus on. Questions are so specific it's nearly impossible. Do not take session B course. Very unhappy.
You will have no idea what will be tested. Exam questions are very random and specific. Out of the tons of information given to you to read, the exam could question you on any part of them to any specificity. Be prepared to know and memorize everything you read to cope the exam.
The textbook is not at all essential. But attendance is - not only that, but the class is super interesting, so you won't want to skip it anyway.
She's super funny when she lectures and is fairly clear about what to study for exams! Don't need the textbook if you go to class.
Long lectures. If you're not into art history, this won't be enjoyable.
Professor Lewis gives amazing audio lectures even though she sort of sounds like she is reading from a script. The tests come directly from the reading and the quizzes come directly from her lectures.
Above average experience with the online Egyptian Art class. Includes short lectures and a lot of reading. Several papers, tests and quizzes. Easy if you are willing to do the work.
Very nice lady, and knowledgeable in her field of art, however she is very unclear on what info will be on the exams. Not knowing what to be tested on leads to a large percentage of failing scores. Her exams are extremely hard and she wants specific answers which is unreasonable when it comes to art. Knowledgeable person, but ineffective teacher.
One of the best professors I have ever had! She is very funny and easy going. Come to class and take good notes, her tests are word for word from the lectures. If you miss a class you will miss questions on the test. Only 4 tests and a simple group project. Basically if you listen and study your notes it is very easy to pass.
I drop three classes with her. My father has an operation and I did not do one exam on time. When I talk to her, she said No! My heart was broken and I felt so bad. After this, I never take any classes with her and my life is so greate with other professors who are more human. I an A student in all other classes. Read this and think!
Lewis is an amazingly interesting professor who is passionate about Art History and makes class interesting. Her quizzes are based off of her lectures so it is extremely important to GO TO CLASS. She also offered our class extra credit at the end of the semester too. I really felt as though I learned a lot in her class! Absolutely would recommend.
Great person and she was very nice. Came in late for a test and still let me take it. The course was very difficult though. Only reason I got a B was because I did an extra credit paper, if not for that I would have ended up with a C. If you are required to take this course I would advise you pay attention. Lot of info thrown at you. Shes great tho
She criticized my essays about my grammar. She continuously asked me to stop by writing center. If she did not deduct big points from my essay, I could get A. I am a Korea and (I heard)she does not like foreign students. My overall GPA is 3.89 and I get A for all 300-400 writing classes.I get 4 years scholarship from ASU for my entire school year.
She is such a great person to listen to about art history! She truly knows a lot about art and is filled with information. She is pretty understanding individual and will do her best in order for you to succeed. Listen to the lessons, write down what she says about each artwork and you will pass. And don't buy the book.
Professor Lewis is absolutely amazing! This was my second class with her and I would be more than willing to take a third class with her being the teacher. You absolutely MUST read the books and listen to the lectures, or else you don't stand a chance of passing this class. Participate, study and reach out when needed, and you'll pass!
Worthest class I've taken, tons of reading assignments. One quiz, one exam and one essay every two weeks. You have no idea what will appear in exams. If you are not an art history student, don't choose. It may be easy to get an A if you spend 10 hours or more on this stupid class, but I'm sure you don't have that much time. Only A and B, no B+.
3rd class with her. TONS of info in each unit - take good notes, find a friend with good notes, and try not to miss class! You can definitely get by without the textbook. Material needed for exams is consistent, offers extra credit opportunities, very understanding, funny, and laid back. Take notes on what she SAYS, not just what's on the slides!!
I was really annoyed by her online class grading. Although I could have gotten a B+ according to my grade, which is a whole .33 GPA boost, she simply grades with A B C D E scores and not what you actually get which is really unfair imo. If someone gets a 70% and someone else gets a 79% they get the same grade which makes NO sense.
Art & Myth in the Classical World. Lewis is knowledgeable, but lectures can be dry. Each unit had 50+ pgs reading, a long list of art to remember, & 1 hr of lectures. Exams are difficult. No study guides--you have to remember small details from lots of material. Essay length requirements are unnecessarily long. No +/- on grade scale, only ABCDE.
Tough I guess, but fair-these classes aren't designed for people who don't want/need to know the material. Very nuanced in assembling the tests and exams, so make sure you actually do the reading and take notes. Very nice to deal with if you have an issue, will take again!
Prof Lewis has a good sense of humor about her class. I took a Tuesday 5-7:30 class. She had good humor about the class, and was willing to meet outside of the odd hours of class.
ARS 394: Egyptian Art and Culture. Lectures, textbook, and supplemental readings were all very interesting. The class was well-paced and assignments were relatively easy given you put in the work. No complaints!
Adele is probably one of my favorite professors. She is sweet and caring, and during her lectures she is low key funny, you just have to listen for a good laugh. If you don't attend class you will probably fail since the tests cover what she strictly discusses in class word for word. Just be willing to study and listen and you'll pass the class.
The class was overall very basic. Not a lot of homework or long papers but the way the topic was presented was very lackluster as I compared Egyptian Art & Culture to Ancient Aliens (on tv). But it is a good class to take in conjunction with technical classes like a computer language or math class.
This course was super boring and the professor didn't teach much. There were few audio lectures but you're expected to learn the material yourself. I found the exams to be particularly difficult. My best tip is to speed up the video on the audio lectures so that you're not tortured for so long. Oh and be aware that she doesn't give +/- grades
very enjoyable class, I had so much fun attending the class. However, I was shocked when i had the exam"Hardest exam". Lot of information. I don't recommend anyone to take this class unless if it was the only class you're taking
I'm inspired by art from many different time periods. However, this class made me hate art. This course is nothing but slide shows and endless vocabulary. This course only grades on quizzes and exams. NO activities to help you understand the literature. Just 300 vocabulary terms, 10 question quizzes, slide show videos with someone talking.
This class will be the hardest thing you ever do in your life. There is a ridiculous amount of notes expected of you to take, non of which will benefit you on the test. The questions on the tests/quizzes are extremely hard and not easily found in the textbook. This was also a 1 month class that had 4 tests, 4 quizzes, don't do it to yourself.
If you want to keep your GPA, do not take it. If you take it and cannot withdraw it, then good luck. There are heavy quizzes and exams for online course, and the questions are not matched the lecture and textbook AT ALL because she always ask questions not related with the art!
Although the tests are pretty hard, Adele gives three homework assignments and three essays per semester that is graded very nicely (wink, wink) so the overall grade isn't solely based on exam scores.
Online class. Tough but lots of time to do your work. Tests are pretty hard and was never on what I studied for. Writing assignments are easy.
Potential to be awesome but just too much work. Lots of videos and you have to watch them; the book is needed but only for reference. No HW but you really have to prepare for quizzes and tests. Class originally used Respondus but was removed due to technical issues; definitely would've failed if I couldn't use my book and notes.
An ART 100 class that requires you to listen to her hour long videos. Exam questions are diffuicult to understand. Even when I prepare and study for the test and feel good about it at best I'll get a 70%. Nothing is online, or on quizlet. Had technical difficulties with getting her Exams up
Lewis is a great teacher! Her teaching style is really clear and direct, and she makes sure that the class is engaged. If you show up to class and study properly, this class is a piece a cake.
Don't take this class. The test is pretty hard and much of information you couldn't receive from e-text but still in test. Due to afraid of affecting my grades, I had to W this class. Writing assignment is easy but it was not enough. If you without any art background wanna to through this course improving grades, you should choose another class.
worst prof. ever, exam full of tricky questions, probably the only B in my entire life
Professor Lewis is an excellent professor. She is a great lecturer with a wealth of interesting things to say about the art covered in the course. This course is very easy IF you attend the lectures, take notes and do the flashcards as she strongly advises. Do that with care and attention and you will surely get an A.
The only grades are 3 exams and a few short papers. The exams are 100 questions and hard, but if you take good notes and study hard you can succeed. Exam material is straight from the lecture (and a little from the book), so even though she doesn't take attendance, you should show up. I loved this class because of Lewis' interesting lectures.
Professor Lewis is a really good teacher so long as you pay attention and go over your own notes. The papers she assigns are really easy to do and graded really easily in my experience. The tests are really hard and ask specifics but she does tell you to remember specific details that turn up later in the test.
She is an ok teacher. I like her as a person and am very interested in the topic. I think I would rate her higher if it wasnt a lecture class, they just simply arent for me. Can be a bit boring at times. Overall nice, easy grader for writing assignments, lots of details on tests, I would take her again.
If you're thinking about taking this online class, DON'T DO IT. Her tests go into the tiniest details and a lot of her questions are formed to trick you. Most of the course is based off of the textbook. Only pro is the writing assignments are pretty easy. If you're thinking about taking Art History pick ARS 102 with Butler, IT'S SO MUCH BETTER.
Worst teacher ever. Shes taking this online class thing to lightly on her side. Only take 4 quizzes and exams worth lots of points. She does not directly give you the right guidance with what you need to study. Then she puts tricky questions on the exam.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. Lecture were long and extremely time consuming and the key terms she listed did not prepare you for test/quizzes, which had material that was not well covered in lectures. I have never gotten a C (Im an A student) before this class and I put in a lot of time preparing and studying. Would not recommend taking online.
ARS 394 Egyptian Art and Culture. Great class. Professor Lewis really knew her stuff. I thoroughly enjoyed the subject and appreciated learning so much more about Egyptian iconography and symbolism. She's a fair grader and if you pay attention in her lectures you will do well.
This class was a super easy A. The only way to get the content is through the in class lectures but if you miss a day she goes over all the important stuff the class before the exam. Exams are 100 question multiple choice and T/F. Lectures were interesting but its easy to get distracted. Group discussion essay super easy points. Def recommend
First class taken @ ASU, first class taken onine, first class taken within major map. Lots of lecture and reading but fair on grading. Think an online class will be "easy"?Think again! Don't be lazy and just do the work. I am looking forward to taking two more classes with her this Summer.
This professor did not lecture in the videos or write the exams. If you want to pass, you will need to bend rules and consult the book and/or the internet for the exams. The exams are full of trick questions and requests for help will be met with indifference and instructions to "study more." Plus side: no discussions. Only quizzes and exams.
The tests in this class are quite difficult, but not horrible as long as you study well. They do not include any unreasonable content! There are also quizzes and essays which will help to balance out your grade. I am neutral towards writing, but absolutely LOVED the essays for this class!! Very fun and interesting content!!
If you think this is an easy online class you have no idea how wrong you are. There is no connection with the professor, you just have to read the book and listen to 2 different videos each week. Quizzes are ok and essays aren't too bad, but my god exams are the worst. She will ask you random questions from the book that isn't vital just because
This is a difficult online class when it comes to the exams. The information for the quiz's are on the lectures but the exams can be difficult since they sometimes have very random information on the art. The writing assignments are pretty easy, so make sure to take good notes when it comes to the reading. I will be taking her again next semester
The written assignments were very easy. For exams which make up most of your grade you need to refer to the book to get a passing grade and even then the answers barely fit what you spent hours studying for and same go for quizzes. Some questions cover the smallest random detail. Content isn't hard but the trick questions aren't fun.
If you're thinking of taking this online class, don't. The professor makes it clear in her syllabus to NOT contact her for any help. The syllabus was the first red flag. Her test questions are ridiculously random facts that you would never pick up on reading through the required books. STAY AWAY.
Professor's lectures are super boring, and dry. Very monotone and not enjoyable at all. The tests are very difficult, and impossible if you don't show up and pay attention in class. Thankfully, there are a couple of assignments that are automatic 100% for completion, to balance out bad test grades. Overall, wouldn't take this course again.
This class contained very dry material but she tried her hardest to make it as interesting as possible for us. There is a lot of concepts and memorization that need to be done, so if you study you should do well on the tests. There are only three tests and no final. There are a few papers that need to be done but they help to cushion your grade.
If you go to class, take notes, and make the flashcards like she recommends... you'll get an A. The class is super straightforward if you review what is talked about in class.
I took this class to satisfy a Historical Awareness credit thinking it would not be too difficult or time-consuming. I WAS WRONG, definitely one of the more difficult online classes I have taken. Being a Medical Studies major I had much more important classes to worry about such Organic Chemistry but was unable to due to the amount of time needed.
I was scared to take this class based off the reviews but it honestly wasnt that bad. I put in bare minimum effort and ended with a mid range B. Her syllabus is off putting, but I emailed her a few times and she was perfectly approachable. Just make sure youre on top of the dates and find some good quizlets and youll be fine
Gotta perform well on exams & dedicate a lot of time studying. Quizzes on lectures are easy. Follow guidelines for assignments, should get 100 on them. No extra credit; have to work hard to do well. She responds quickly to emails. Avoid if you have a lot of work from other classes & if you do take it, find a free PDF of the 5th edition textbook!
Adele has very straight-forward ppts that she uses during class. You cannot take pics/vids of them, so either write really fast or take notes on a laptop. As long as you know the term she's covering, and you write down all the major points she makes, you'll be fine. Don't miss class, she relies more on talking than on ppt slide specifics.
Really structured online class. Reading and watching the lecture videos are the main course work and it takes a lot of time to absorb the material. The tests are not open note so it is really important to study and make sure you are using the study guides. Other than that, it is a fairly easy class to take, and the teacher is really fair.
Not very big on feedback, but always prompt at grading and getting back to you. ARS 101 was pretty easy. Lot of reading, a few lectures, and some independent research and papers. ARS 102 was a much heavier course load. You cover a LOT of information in a short time. Lots of reading, many hours of lectures, and essays. She cares about her students.
Very kind and funny professor to have. You must attend class in order to pass, considering the lectures are not posted on Canvas. Other than that, if you attend class and take good notes, you will have an easy time passing this course. Highly recommend this professor and this class to those who have interest in taking it.
This class is fine if you listen to all the lectures and reading. Some of the lectures can be a little vague and then the tests and quizzes contain questions that are hard to answer based on the information given. If you do your work and try your best it is not too hard to get an A based on her grading system. She knows a lot about this subject.
As it was an online class I didnt actually interact with her very much, but when I reached out she responded quickly. There is a lot of work for such a low-level class. SO MANY lectures and lots of reading! I did all of the work, and the exams and quizzes were still a little tricky.
Terrible. Doesn't do +'s or -'s so if you get you you're at a high B, it's just as good as a barely passing B (thats what happened to me). Lectures are very boring so you should speed them up. Exams are VERY tricky. Avoid her as much as you can and if you HAVE to take her, take her in person NOT online. One positive is she responds to emails fast.
NO feedback or communication at all. Won't know she's even there. Shares opinions/ critique on random art rather than teaching facts about necessary pieces. You are guaranteed to not do well on exams because she asks questions that were not covered in lectures or text and marks the CORRECT answer incorrect based on what she BELIEVES. Do not take!!!
Easy class, there are papers for each module but they're easy and short. Quizzes are easy and only about the lecture videos. Reading is required but not an excessive amount of reading. Tests were semi hard, some of the questions on the exams had nothing to do with the readings but still easy enough to pass the test. Just make sure to make notes!
So here's the deal.. I think if I had Prof. Lewis in person I would feel very differently. However, I was in an online course. I struggled a LOT with the tests because I did not have a clear understanding of what needed to be studied and I came up underprepared every time. The assignments were great though and I really liked writing them.
Quizzes are based on 2 lecture videos that are very easy (you can also find quizzlets that have all the answers). Exams are a lot harder the study guides don't help since lots of questions are minor details in the book and not on the topics on the guide. The writing essays are super easy and short. Re-read chapters take notes. Taking her next sem
This class is very hard. there's a lot of information to intake, and the Prof isn't very good at explaining what will actually be on the tests. The writing assignments are the easiest to do in this class.
Attendance is not mandatory but the test material comes directly from her words, but if it is on sync she records them. This class is very boring and hard, but if you have a groupchat for it and its helpful, you'll do fine. She is very sweet too.
Prof Lewis is cool
Lewis was very fun and friendly. Took this in Fall2019, pre-COVID in a lecture hall. Attendance was not mandatory because there were so many of us in there. Easy to pass if you take notes during lectures. Lecture information was necessary to study for exam(s). Word count not enforced, if you had 230 words when 250 was needed, not a big deal.
