Good class to take very easy. i dont know abt the teaching methods of her b'cos i was never in class for lectures. easy A if ur an engineering major otherwise lil bit of work.
Good class to take, recommended for all majors. Most of the works are to be submitted online. Showing up for lecture is almost not required, good to be there once in a while though. NO required text, she has all the material needed on the web. So, go ahead, this class is for everybody! This instructor is very flexible and helpful.
This professor is cool and easy. All work will be done online, and they're easy. Tests will also be done online, the good thing is no matter how many times you get it wrong you can do it over again. I would definitly recommend this professor to everyone.
this class was so f*ing boring. subject is lame as hell, only took it for ge requirement. wasn't to fond of the instructor, lecture is all over the place. very vague in explaining and impatient. everything is online, no book needed. one long term paper which i thought was pointless and dumb. wouldnt recommend for ge, find something else
Class is pretty boring. Most of the stuff she teaches will not be used for the exams/quizzes. The class is relatively easy. She does mock exams to help. There's also a lengthy research paper, but she's helping you along the way and gives you several attempts to improve. She is nice and is very willing to help. Easy capstone class!
if you want an easy A, definitely take this one! i barely went to class...lectures, homework, midterm, final are all online. term paper isn't bad. no textbook. it's impossible to fail this class. professor is nice & very helpful.
This class was very interesting and she gives you everything you need to do the quizes definately go to class. She is a great teacher.
the H/W is due the beginning of each class and if you were late with the H/W, she will deduct points for each day.do the H/Ws and try to understand each point, most of the times, you will need to go back to the text cause she is not detailed in her way of explaining the material. she has 2 midts and a final( from the H/Ws) class is not easy anyway
no book need, very material is online, esay A,easy teacher, only 10 pages report which is easy to search online, no need to come to class, test are online and each test have 2 weeks to finish, so gather some other students together and check the answer before submit the test, easy A
Don't like how she lectures on the power-point,she should do more example.
Did not like her style in teaching MAE205. It was so damn frustrating because of her teaching methods. She doesn't help. She gives clues, but that takes forever to find out exactly what she means. She should give answers to the homework problems because it will take a toll if you do not know the exact codes. 10 homeworks and 3 tests (with notes).
She is a very nice teacher. She prepares you to what EXACTLY to expect on the exams. All of her lectures and tests are online. Just show up the week before something is due to find out important details in how the assignment will be graded and such. She is super cool and super CHILL! Do not procrastinate on the term paper! High possibility of an A+
Very easy-going teacher for an easy-going class full of exciting material. Whether you like Aerospace or not, you will definitely learn something. If you are non-ENGR, don't sweat; simply attend the class before every exam, as she basically gives you the answers for the mid-term and final. Mostly videos for first half of semester. Easy A.
chillest class, only went when she reviewed & to turn in assignments.EVERYTHING posted thru website, midterm & final done online.only go to class to turn in research paper, & 2nd part of final (short answer). class is the best class to take for the capstone if you're about to grad!take w/a friend and you're GUARANTEED an A!
This class isn't the easiest, but as long as you stay on top of the work, you should be fine. She is very helpful and understanding, but don't expect her to give you the answers when you're stuck.
She was really tough actually. I worked my butt off and asked her for help a lot, but the exams were just so though. They were not from hw or problems in class. Im pretty sure only one person got an A in my class. I got a B and I was like the second highest grade in the class. lots of people I talked to said they got a C or D.
Dr. Schmitz was very helpful. The work load is doable if you keep up the work. Every exam is cumulative on the written part so make sure you practice before each exam. On the programming part, it's usually over the material taught leading up to the exam (i.e. for loops). I got a C
You need to do the homework. It is essential since her quizzes are just like them. The whole class is just equations so make sure you don't mess up any numbers or variables. Good professor though. Recommended for this course
The class is not hard but you do need to do the homework at least a few problems so you can get a feel for the problems and how to use the equations. The class is all plug and chug though. She will always give whatever is the most involved as questions on midterms.
Attendance is not mandatory. Most of the assignments are online. Except for a 10 page paper thats not due until the final day of class which she gives you more than half of the semester to finish. Take this class to fulfill your GE. Easy A.
Very fun class, and great prof! 10 page paper, and she makes sure you can't leave it for the last minute. Easy grader. Midterm and final, mostly done online. Full points guaranteed on problems as long as you do the exams on time. A couple easy quizzes as well. No reason not to get an A.
Easy Class...Everything on-line no text book... Don't need to show up everyday...3 Quiz, all are on-line and multiple choice. No time period to complete the quiz..Watch a couple films, Grades very easy...Mid-term 10 Question very easy, gives a review session before the mid-term in class...piratically gives you the answers for the mid-term..Easy A!!
Great Class , Great Teacher...Easy class she will email you when you need to come to class before mid term and final. Watch a couple movies and don't need to buy text book or take notes. This is a paperless class, everything is online and the quiz are super easy multiple choice. Take her if you can.
Dr. Schmitz is an awesome instructor. She is very clear, organized, easy going and fun. TAKE HER! EASY A! (: I loved her.
Doesn't expect much ability/effort from students. Good side of this is easy A. Bad side: condescending toward all, whether you do your work or deserve it because you can't follow directions.
just follow her guidelines! I went to class but never paid attention unless she's doing a review. I literally didn't try at all..until the last two weeks..so I got a C but she gave me a B instead because I did well on my final paper! I wish I tried harder..it should be an easy A! start on your paper early..everything else should be a breeze..
She doesn't explain things well and won't help you if you don't understand, has a huge attitude. Nothing for online hw is explained and no formulas given for the last online hw and online final. Also the most boring class I have ever taken
Super easy capstone. All quizzes and assignments are online. The only thing that takes effort is the 10 page paper, but it's not difficult. A lot of times you just have to watch a video online instead of coming to class. I was worried to take this class because I'm not an engineering major, but I was fine. I would recommend this class.
this class is not easy and you have to work hard. her method of teaching will help you understand fully. there are 12 homeworks and 2 midterms and a final. as long as you stay on top of the class works you gonna fine. compare to other professors in department she is cool and very kind and nice, I would recommend her over all other professors.
Took 350 with her. She's really tough but a really great teacher!
She is one of the best professors in CSULB. Easy grader and she knows what she's talking about. Take her if you Can
Really great professor. Understands her field really well. Exams are tough but if you study enough you should be able to get an A.
the worst teacher ever!! she does not know how to teach and makes the tests very hard. avoid! avoid! avoid! she's the worst professor I had. she doesn't know the material herself and solve her prob looking at chegg.
Schmitz's lectures are based off powerpoints and working out problems. The test and quizzes aren't hard if you make an excellent cheat sheet and if you attempt to do the homework problems she assigns (not collected). You could use your book during testsquizzes but there isn't enough time to go flipping through the book to find the information.
ENGR370 was a BREEZE. Everything is posted online. The week before the tests she goes over every single formula used for each question... And you have unlimited tries (except the final). There is a 10 page paper due on the very last day of class. She walks everyone through it step by step. It would be hard to NOT get an A in this class.
DONT waste your time plagerizing the paper because she actually uploads it on the web to see if its clean. I had to retype the paper for the final after I was caught when I submitted the rough draft. anyways dont procrastinate like I did the night before to do it. BTW i WISH SOMEONE TOLD ME BUT SHOW UP TO THE TUTOR FOR THE HW/QUIZ THING TO GET A.
She is really good. She is really clear on what she wants from her students. Read the book and powerpoints, do the examples and homework ( not collected) and you are fine, you will pass with good grade. I would take her again for sure
She's a good lecturer, and this class is so easy. Gives you step-by-step procedures to solve computational problems and multiple choice problems can be answered from her lecture slides. Often goes to class late and dismisses it early. The essay is annoying because the class makes you lazy and you suddenly have to put in some effort.
Schmitz is an amazing professor. If you are hoping to really learn the subject TAKE HER because she teaches the subject amazingly well and teaches it in a way that is easy to understand. Her tests are very hard, but she structures the class in a way that allows you to be prepared. She doesnt collect homework but its absolutely necessary.
just dont.
Didn't learn anything from lecture since its nothing but equations that she expects you to learn in your own. Reads a lot off slides Learned more out of the book than her. Not enoguh time on tests since its a lot of math. Projects are tedious since i didnt learn anything from the lecture. Do yourself a favor dont take her
don't do it.
Simple class. Material is simply knowing a whole lot of equations. Spend your time making a good formula sheet and it's just plug and chug. She assigns homework, good to do just to familiarize yourself with the problems. She doesn't collect it. She will have random quizzes the days hw is "supposed" to be due. Good formula sheet easy A
Dr. Schmitz is fine, but the class involves lots of math and concepts. Do the hw! The bad thing with this professor is that she does not give a lot of time for quizzes and exams. Simple miscalculations can cost you a bunch of points. If you work fast, practice, and have a good formula sheet, you'll be fine. AEs, you can't avoid her. No other option
Her lectures are good, a lot of derivations in class so just focus on the final equation. the class is ALL EQUATIONS. 6 pop quizzes and she drops the lowest one. DO THE HOMEWORK. Midterms are exactly like the homework, not difficult just tedious and u have to stay focused. no joke, this class is mainly equations and plug and chug.
Okay professor. Her lectures contain a lot of information. HW is not mandatory but very necessary for her exams. Half conceptual and half calculations. Pretty challenging if you didn't study enough. As long as you put an effort in, you should be fine. Class is curved.
HW is way easier/different from what you see on quizzes and exams. Offers no partial credit whatsoever. Relies on OLD notes that have tons of typos, we did not get enough time to finish all the questions for each exam. Her two sections rebelled and asked for an extension on the 1st midterm because no one felt ready. You'll need to teach yourself.
Lectures are heavy with a lot of derivations, but just focus on the eq. She assigns hw but never collects them but they are the most helpful. Pop-quizzes are directly from hw and the test is very similar. She is always ready to help in office hours. Just listen in class, do the hw and this class is a breeze. Its a plug and chugg class.
Asynchronous during Covid, lectures are posted, you watch and learn at your own pace. Zoom meetings every other week for questions and quizzes. Tests are exactly like hw and example problems from the txtbook. If you are able to get ur hands on prev semester tests, will benefit you a lot! Easy A, just study and pay attention. There is a slight curve
Dr. Schmitz is very accommodating under COVID. Her videos clearly explain the topic and to emphasize understanding, she has us do meetings every Thursday to answer questions. This gives us the best of both worlds when it comes to asycn and sync. Her exams and quizzes are very easy. The homework and examples are harder.
Her lecture is just her pre-recording herself, and it is exactly the same as the book. Personally, I love this because it gives me a lot of freedom of when to study. The HW is slightly more difficult than the quizzes/exams. This class is all about plugging numbers into equations. I swear, just know what equation to use, and you're guaranteed an A.
The class is mostly prerecorded lectures posted to BB. However I found the Homework assignments most helpful to the class, since the topics are what is found on exams and quizzes. This class is all about plugging numbers into equations. Just a simple equation sheet for the exams and the quizzes is all you need to pass the class.
This class is overall absolutely easy, except for the group project. Professor Schmitz tends to just read from slides and have us watch videos, but she's available and willing to help with aspects you may not understand as long as you ask her. It definitely felt like I was teaching myself most of the time with this class, but she was a good prof.
this class was so easy like im a psych major and i got an a lol her lectures were meh i was teaching myself most of the time but a lot of the tests and quizzes had unlimited attempts. there is a group project that includes a 10-page essay and slideshow but it was a breeze
The class is just formulas, the questions are normally pretty simple as long as you know which of many formulas you should use. No homework but quizzes and exams are based on the homework. Understand the homework well and you will pass. She curves a bit at the end. Quizzes are random but she will hint if they are coming. Study the homework!
If you like group projects, I'd recommend taking this class. It was hard to do because it was 100% online, and the assignment requires everyone to record their part. A lot of the class is you teaching yourself, but midterms are nice because you get unlimited attempts. I'm also not an ENGR major and was taking this for my upper division.
This class is entirely effort based and doesn't take more than an hour of doing the work in order to secure an easy A. Professor is reasonable when grading assignments, even the group project, and she structures the class very easily. Would recommend, even to a non-engr major, as she even details exactly how to solve the problems in the exams.
Grade is extremely test heavy, as homeworks are not graded and attendance(although she takes it) is not counted according to syllabus. 3 exams with 1 comprehensive final, all open book (you NEED the book). The subject itself is very easy with the book, so the biggest obstacle on exams is time. Be very careful with math errors, she grades harshly.
Professor Schmitz is great at her job. Unfortunately, she has no problem throwing curveballs tests. No homework, no grade bump. All points are from exams. If you are a workhorse & completes all your work & goes to every class & takes notes & asks questions, but aren't great at taking tests, I would not recommend her and skip her for another.
Professor Schmitz is a good person but her teaching style doesn't work for most. She rushes through the material and grades hard on the tests. I would not recommend her because of these factors. I believe that a student should many ways to help with points in a class, other than tests (4 exams).
Schmitz is an amazing professor for a challenging course. Tests were open book with an equation sheet. Practice problems aren't graded, but make sure you do them. She adjusts her teaching style to the material, and is always available at office hours. I had her for MAE 350 as well, and the courses are very different. Would absolutely take her again
She makes it very easy to pass if you put in effort. A few exams, several quizzes, and a group project broken into multiple parts will determine your grade but its super fair grading and requirements. Lectures definitely help with all of them and she takes attendance.
Exams are a simplified version of homework and quizzes. 2 exams and 1 final with around 10 quizzes give or take. Quizzes are online but studying for them is heavily advised regardless, as long as you know how to do the homework you'll be fine on the exams. Lectures are based on slides and she writes extra notes on the board, sit near the front.
Very organized lectures. 2 midterms and a final. 9 quizzes. She drops your lowest 2 quiz scores. Very generous with partial credit. Physical textbook is essentially required but its easy to find cheap. She's honestly a really good professor I would take her again.
class content itself is long and boring so not the profs fault. lectures have detailed powerpoints, exams are open book. doesn't curve a whole lot but has an adjusted grading scale. gives decent partial credit, no extra credit. decent prof
She is a nice lady but she is probably the hardest professor for 305. Entire grade is 4 exams and class is pre curved with an adjusted scale. She mostly just writes down the formulas for the methods and reads off a power point during lecture. Grades super hard for math errors and rounding mistakes on exams never able to finish in allotted time.
This was one of the worst academic experiences I've had, Schmitz is disorganized, unresponsive, & inconsistent in grading. Course expectations change without notice, technical issues are ignored, and legitimate concerns are met with silence. Emails go unanswered for weeks, even when issues are time sensitive and affect a student's academic standing
This class felt less like an educational experience and more like an administrative nightmare. The lack of transparency and follow-through directly harms students' academic progress. I have never felt so unsupported by an instructor. Avoid if you care about your GPA, mental health, or basic respect as a student.
Grading lacks transparency and consistency, making it difficult to understand how performance is evaluated or how to improve. Rather than supporting student learning, the structure of the class creates unnecessary stress and uncertainty. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience that I would not recommend to other students.
Ignore the last ratings. Prob a student who didn't put in any effort lol. She is amazing and grading is fair. Just do the homework problems and you can do well on the quizzes and midterms. Class is honestly chucking numbers into formulas. That's it.
The material itself is standard, but the course was poorly managed. Grading felt inconsistent, expectations were unclear, and communication about issues or concerns was minimal. Lectures relied heavily on formulas with little conceptual explanation, and exams didn't always align well with homework.
I took this course and found it poorly run, with unclear expectations, inconsistent grading, and little response when concerns were raised. More troubling is that this professor is the only instructor for this requirement and pushes students to take it in the summer, leaving almost no real choice and calling the fairness of the setup into question.
I'm writing this as a student who took this professor's course. My midterm grade was near or above the class average, and I performed similarly on the final. However, despite submitting my work, confusing and poorly managed online quizzes resulted in an F that does not reflect my performance. Communication around grading was unclear and dismissive.
Schmitz was amazing! You're only graded by quizzes, midterms, and finals. But she provides more than enough resources to do well on them (she posts handwritten notes + lecture slides + supplemental resources all on canvas). She assigns hw for no grade but doing them makes you do really well on exams. Hope to take her again for aerodynamics!
I earned above-average scores on exams, but the final grade didn't reflect my performance at all. Grading felt inconsistent, especially on online quizzes, and explanations were vague or nonexistent. It was frustrating to put in real effort and still feel penalized by unclear policies.
This class was unnecessarily stressful. Instructions were unclear, feedback was minimal, and asking questions didn't really help. I passed, but I don't feel like I actually learned much, just survived the grading system. I'm
I consistently submitted my work and studied hard, but small technical or quiz-related issues seemed to outweigh everything else. The grading felt rigid and unforgiving, with little room for clarification or correction.
The course felt poorly organized and difficult for the wrong reasons. Communication was limited, grading was confusing, and the workload didn't match the way performance was evaluated. I wouldn't recommend this class unless you have no other option.
One of the most poorly run courses I've taken. Grading was confusing and inconsistent, expectations were never clear, and communication was minimal at best. Despite strong effort and solid exam performance, the final grade felt arbitrary and disconnected from actual understanding.
Communication was weak and grading felt arbitrary. Learning took a back seat to navigating unclear rules.
Unclear expectations, inconsistent grading, and almost no helpful feedback. One of the most frustrating classes I've taken.
Never ever take this class with this professor, if you can, it was the only F of my entire educational career unbelievable
Heavy and unclear lecture, the questions were not answered properly. Otherwise I would've get much better great as always I don't recommend at all.
This is the worst engineering class I've ever had in CSULB I do not recommend it at all, it's not worth it to risk your GPA with unreasonable and unorganized grading methodadmissions
The course was poorly organized, with unclear expectations and inconsistent grading throughout the semester. Communication was minimal, and questions or concerns often went unanswered. Overall, it felt unnecessarily frustrating and not supportive of student learning.
My final grade did not reflect my performance on exams and major assignments. Despite doing reasonably well on the final, the overall grade was heavily impacted by unclear or inconsistently graded components, with little explanation provided. Attempts to understand or review the grading were not helpful.
Lectures lacked structure and didn't clearly connect to assignments or exams. Grading felt inconsistent, and feedback was minimal, making it hard to understand mistakes or improve. This class required a lot of unnecessary stress for the outcome.
When you go to Office hours get ready for a demeaning teacher. She'll question you about everything and not give helpful input. And if you want your exam score. Good luck, she won't even grade it until weeks after the fact. Then she'll tell you she release it a week later. She didn't even release the exams when she said she would.
If you want a teacher lectures correctly, don't bother with her. You'll practically need to learn and read everything yourself. Her exams are harder than anything in the book, homework, and lecture. So don't expect to get a good score on the exam.
AVOID, it's not worth it to risk your GPA, take it with another instructor….
Disorganized lectures, unclear grading, and poor communication. Grades felt arbitrary and concerns were brushed off.
Lack of transparency in grading and minimal support. Extremely frustrating class.
Tried to understand my final grade but didn't get clear answers.
Worst class I've taken. Instructions changed all the time and grades felt random. Asked for help and got zero real explanation. Learned more online.
If you like guessing what the professor wants, take this class. If not, save yourself. No clear grading, no helpful feedback.
