Attendance and participation count for ALOT of your grade. 6 out of 8 hmwk assignments are mandatory. there are two tests. If you have PERFECT attendance, the final is optional. Test are extremely hard but his curves are ridiculous. class is long and dull but his dry jokes are meant to keep you attentive. pay attention and you'll do fine.
Great prof. If you got to classes and participate this class is a very easy A.
This is one confusing class. I am usually an A/A- student, and found I could only get a B+. He is not the worst teacher, but it is very difficult to know what to study for the tests and what to put into the cases. He refuses to discuss grades or argue with students, even if it is he who has made the error. Attendance mandatory. No final.
As a person, Dedeke is the man is obviously really nice and understanding. But as a teacher, his grading policies are a little weird and tough to understand. That's what made it hard for me to love this class.
It's not only his teaching that's bad but the course is awful and useless. The work that he assigns is in such detail that makes it unfair and the final assignment is the worst thing ever. I did well in the class but still hate it. His tests are easy but his classes are boringggggg. Don't take him. He's awful
He was a decent teacher. I didn't mind his lectures, but the his grading on the cases was pretty tough and they were pretty hard. His tests were okay, and he does curve. Participation was a big deal. I ended up getting an A, but it was really hard to do; I ended up writing a final case that was over 20 pages long to get it.
He's hard to follow in lectures. When you ask him to clarify something he never really gives you an answer, he sort of babbles for a little bit and then moves on. You never know what he's looking for on homework or the tests, he wants to to say exactly what he was looking for. No final if missed 2 or less classes. Avoid him if possible!
Honestly one of the worst professors I have ever had. Rambles all class and the information he goes over and cases we have little to do with what you are tested on. Grades really harshly and all cases are really repetitive.
Extremely boring... grades very harsh and his lectures are straight from his powerpoints... he even gave points off on a yes or no OPINION question (Do you think...yes or no)
Professor Dedeke is one of the worst professors I have had the misfortune of having. He has ridiculously high expectations for case studies that are on fairly simple concepts. He asks you to make the process extremely complicated by forcing you to segment your answers into strange tables that make it hard to explain your thougts correctly.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. I did not learn anything in the class and the work was useless and tedious. He is an unfair grader and does not want to help his students i.e. he NEVER answers ANY question with a straight answer. Do not take this course whatever you do.
Honestly, he was a very nice person and really enjoys what he's teaching, but he's unclear about what he wants, and grades harshly if you didn't do an assignment exactly how he wanted. Nice guy, but his grading is ridiculous.
bad prof. He said I am gonna receive an average grade, but gave me a C in the end. He seems to be helpful, but not truly.
Worst instructor ever. Unclear what he wants all the time. AVOID!!!
This guy is the worst professor I've had so far in my college career
He's really good! I will reccomand him. His class is super funny and he is a easygrader! You can easily get an A just attending his classes. He loves getting e-mail so if you don't understand anything just send him an e-mail and you will recive a better partecipation grade. His class was helpful and he is a very good professor!
He goes about as if he knows what he is talking about and when a student asks a question, he struggles to answer sometimes even answering I don't know. Unclear as to what he wants and is unwilling to take the time to clarify. When you push for clarification he disregards you and talks down to you. Quite a rude and frustrating teacher
no! please no! do not take his class, thats too awful
Professor Dedeke doesn't provide any clarification on any topics. When you ask a question in class related to the material, 910 the answer is 'I don't know'
Dedeke is definitely a Computer Science professor trying to teach business students. He assumes you know things that there is no reason for you to know. SAVE this class for later in college. It may be business core, but you learning nothing. Case analyses are HARD, he is not clear with what he wants. No final, no textbook.
Worst teacher I have ever had. I didn't hear more than 5 words every lecture from all the mumbling on random things that were irrelevant to the class. terrible professor and extremely unfair grader, he doesn't even explain any of the assignments EVER BRO!!!!
Prof Dedeke's class was a joke. Very short, easy take-home "diagnostic quizzes" account for a quarter of your grade, and the tests are very similar to the practice test he provides for studying. If you're serious about learning MIS, avoid Dedeke, but otherwise it's an easy class
Dedeke is a great person and is excited about how we can use MIS to impress coworkers and co-op interviewees. It is a subject hard to understand, but he made it doable. He encourages participation in the classroom and his exams are multiple choice.
Terrible teacher! Unable to understand what's going on during the lecture through all his random mumbling and rants. Disrespectful towards students when they bring up info from the slides that contradict test answers. Half his powerpoint slides used during class are blank. Tests are similar to the study guide but meant to confuse you! DO NOT TAKE!!
This class is about modern technology (think hard drives, cloud computing). The problem is 2 things 1) he is teaching it as if it were a decade ago and 2) the guy is clueless and ambiguous. Sole reason why I wouldn't major is MIS. This has been the worst professor I've had at Northeastern. Easy to get a B, impossible to get an A.
Nice guy, and relatively easy workload. Tests are just repeats of the study guides, but he changes the words and answers around almost to try to trick students. Also he seems to be unaware of the world around him. Needs a time keeper in class to tell him how much time is left. Will mark you absent if you are not in the room when he's taking role
Gives Excel assignments, but doesn't know how to do a Vlookup. Goes over test answers and cant explain why one answer is right and one answer is wrong. Material is outdated. Textbook is free, but you are tested on his slides which are not organized at all.
Professor Dedeke is genuinely a good and enthusiastic person but his teaching method is terrible. His midterm tests are tricky, if you want to score high on them you must memorize the study guide and sample test. I think it is unfair and ineffective. Also, the DQ quizes are tricky in wording and one mistake is worth a lot.
Don't understand all the hate he gets on here. He's a super nice guy who is very passionate about what he teaches. Although his lectures and slides were a bit disorganized they were always understandable. Tests are pretty easy as long as you do the study guide, which is similar. Only annoying thing is many short take home tests for 2% of grade each
Lots of short 2% tests throughout the course that are really time-consuming and annoying. The tests are pretty difficult and participation is important. I think my main issue with Dedeke was that he's not clear about what he wants. Seems like he doesn't understand what he tries to teach. The class itself is not that hard but he makes it difficult.
Dedeke is a really kind professor, and cares a lot about his students. He goes out of his way to talk to every single person in the class, even while virtual. Overall if you pay attention in class it is not that hard, but hw and tests are specific to exactly what he says, and you cant google the answers. I enjoyed the class!
26% of the grade are short quizzes that take around 20 minutes to read and do, each worth 2% of the grade. Participation is very important (10%) and you must actively participate to get a high grade. Tests and projects are easy if you know your computers but if not it can be difficult. Overall not a bad teacher for a remote class.
Literally the worst professor to teach this class. you cannot hear this professor at all ... mumbles (i.e. you can't tell when he calls on you) ... slides are disorganized ... on the test, the choices he shows you for a question are different from the choices i got on a test ... can't explain why an answers wrong like idk how i'm supposed to pass
Terribly disorganized. He constantly changes lecture slides and homeworks, even with the deadline in a few days. My group was backstabbed by starting early on a project when he changed the assignment's raw data two days before it was due. When we asked him about the points lost, he basically said "be glad I didn't give you a zero".
Lectures are not engaging, which caused me to zone off a lot. I studied last minute for both of the big exams, which I probably could have avoided. The study guides are very helpful- some of the questions on the test are exact repeats or are very similar. He is also a tough grader so make sure to go above and beyond on the group projects!
Class is entirely lecture. Don't recommend taking this class at 8am. The professor has a funny personality and occasionally tells anecdotes. I found the course intellectually challenging but not extremely difficult nor easy either. One big thing to note is that he has quizzes at least once a week that are due at 7am so be sure to not miss those!
worst.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR! He was unclear in his expectations and would change them after students asked questions. He was extremely rude and changed grades after students corrected him for mistakes. Though his instructions would say to give "at least two examples," he was upset that people only gave two examples rather than more, which he expected.
He cares about his students, that's very clear. Terrible teacher. It's hard to understand him, his exam questions are often very difficult to interpret because they are in borderline broken english. The course is VERY outdated, and although he tries to teach excel through the course, it is so abundantly clear he doesn't know how to use it.
Very kind and funny professor, truly cares about his students. Gives a break in the middle of class each day and you will usually get out a few minutes early. One thing though is that all of the assignments amount to 100 points total, so every point counts in this class. Can be a harsh grader. Definitely have to work for a good grade.
prof dedeke is super understanding. his lectures are quite long, but he gives us breaks in between. his exams are very similar to the study guide, but he changes a few words so it trips you up. the rest of the class is group project-based - if you don't have a good group, you're done for. he is very dedicated; he writes his own materials for class.
Teaches from powerpoint slides which are not well organized and doesn't explain concepts that well. Exams are similar to the homework. Many group assignments and if you and you're group don't know what you're doing you're screwed. He is nice and a funny guy
Dedeke is a nice person but a horrible teacher. The slides are very confusing and the tests are very hard. He was not able to provide an explanation as to why the answer on the test was correct.
I can see why he is rated so low but he really isnt that bad. Keep up with weekly synopsis videos and DQ quizes. He splits the grading up into a bunch of different categories which is much better than having 80% of your grade based off tests like in most classes.
Doesn't deserve the hate he gets - he gives good lectures and helpful materials. Class is hard but fair for the most part. Grading is very meticulous and every point counts.
Terrible professor, showed up late constantly, and didn't understand the subject material. Clearly passionate about the subject but poor at teaching. He doesn't teach well and constantly has test answers that are wrong and incorrect, meaning students have to correct him. Avoid this class at all costs it's the only class he teaches and it's bad.
Passionate professor but the material is sometimes a decade out of date. Not understanding of student issues, poor communicator, and failed to learn several students names weeks into the course. Only lecture material which are not relevant to the exams. Materials riddled with grammar errors & all assignments group based - so you need a good group.
Be ready to take notes. Very lecture intensive, read up to 300 slides per exam, 2 exams in total. His tests are very easy, providing the perfect review slide and practice exam to get 95+. He curves the class if everyone performs poorly, he doesn't deserve all these negative comments. Many group projects.
Professor Dedeke is nice and respectful to his students; however, he is a TOUGH GRADER. Every assignment is counted towards your grade, including DQs (case studies and you answer questions) and group projects. PARTICIPATION matters a lot, and I talk to every class by answering and asking good questions but I still get a 9/10.
Extremely confusing and disorganized professor. Posts assignments and rubrics a day before they're due. Does not explain himself well, constantly speaks in circles. Exams depend on memorization of content and often contain topics that were never discussed. Group projects were assigned often, but they aren't too hard. Attendance is mandatory.
So so so unnecessarily hard for an online class-- I was spending up to 18 hours a week on homework and notes and recorded lectures. Nice guy but compared to other classes this is like training to be a navy seal.
Horrible. Incredibly unclear and disorganized. He puts the wrong answers on tests and quizzes frequently and is rude when you correct him. Spelling and grammar errors everywhere in his slides, tests, and course material. He may have a PhD but he is in no way capable of teaching a class at this level. Very rude to some people so get on his good side
A very tough grader, but offers a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Heavy on group work.
Dedeke is one of the most passionate teachers I have had so far at Northeastern, his lectures were very engaging and interesting. Sure the class was hard but that's life, just read the textbook when you're confused. I must admit I got lucky since I got a great group, but he gave us a ton of extra credit opportunities anyways and a generous curve.
Nice, but is a very tough grader. His classes are very boring. He did some extra credit, but it does not really matter that much because he is a tough grader. Tests are very hard, and most assignments are group ones. His class was not the worst, but I would not recommend it.
At all costs do not take dedeke! He is one of the worst professors in d'amore-mckim. He never sets clear expectations but grades extremely tough. Never admits he's wrong, when frequently there is errors in exams and hw. Also its impossible for each person to get the same grade for group projects because of his grading method.
Very tough professor. I took the online accelerated course for the summer and it was really difficulty because of his grading system. Group work is hell if you do not have a good group. Consistently takes off points off hw for minor things. good luck
Horribly picky grader, will take points off for random things that were not specified in the instructions, and will never admit to being wrong if you meet with him.
LISTEN TO THE OTHER REVIEWS. Assignments are poorly written and riddled with typos. Exam and DQ questions are not well thought through, and even contradictory to class lectures. And don't bother asking for clarification, he will just tell you that he "went over it in class" in the most poorly written email you have ever read.
This professor has to be one of the most horrible professors I've ever encountered in my life. On the first day of class he introduced himself and he makes it seem like he's this very intelligent and caring man, but he just doesn't know how to teach. It's a disgrace that Northeastern even hired this guy. I didn't learn ANYTHING this semester.
This guy gives homework quizzes that are due at 7 am, so sometimes I'd forget to do them and it affected my grade tremendously. Then he gives tests and each question is like "Which of the following is ____" and the answer choices are so similar that you don't even know what to answer. The tests are not a fair representation of what you know.
Hands down the WORST professor I've ever had. Assignments/quizzes are not testing you for knowledge, but for nitpicky wording of questions. As a ESL student, I felt like I was reading for trick questions rather than the content. Also, theres a bunch of games you play as assignments. Absolutely useless assignments, I learned nothing in this class.
While the lectures themselves weren't too bad, a lot of group projects were assigned and made up a good chunk of credit. They were also graded harshly, so you were out of luck if you had bad teammates. Professor Dedeke's exams were also very difficult, with multiple choice answers being very similar to each other.
His lectures are EXTREMELY boring and useless. He grades everything out of 3 and is super tough with the grading. His Canvas page is a mess and all the instructions for the group projects are poorly made. All his tests are in class, on paper, and the questions don't make sense. I don't know how he got hired by Northeastern. DO NOT TAKE DEDEKE!
He didn't know the material he was teaching. Asked what topics we wanted to review, ignored them, read off endless slides, then said questions were "already covered." Put incorrect answer on a practice quiz, reused question with different correct answer on test, refused to give the point back. Said curve made up for HIS errors. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
Very difficult grader, barely curves, nobody gets an A in his class. Boring lectures he justs reads off slides and grades every single assignment difficult.
Dr. Dedeke is very nice and you can tell he's passionate about the topics and he often tells stories to try to enhance students' education. However lectures are super boring. Instructions for assignments are often confusing and vague and there are a number of group assignments throughout the semester that take much longer than they probably need to
Absolutely do not recommend taking this class with this professor. Unclear rubrics for assignments with differing templates, lots of group projects which are hit or miss, and very harsh grading. Did not learn a lot either and the most disorganized class I've ever taken. This class stressed me out a lot and will stress you out too.
He's not horrible but proceed with caution. He's very knowledgable and passionate about MIS. It's also clear he cares about his students. However, his canvas page is a mess, he makes diagnostic quizzes due at 7am, and his exams are brutal (gives a curve). If you take him, go in with your guns blazing, and he will respect the effort.
Nick is a mumbler and a rambler, so not a great combo. Its so hard to understand him, and he just goes on and on about useless jargin. I really wish his slides were less packed, they are full with info that wont be relevant or on any exams. There is little to none real study material for the class, which makes studying and doing well on exams hard
Guy always does his best, and his best is pretty good. I don't understand why his rating is so low, yeah his class is hard, but this is Northeastern, suck it up. He gives great out of classroom opportunities to meet high level business professionals (amazon, IBM, etc.) for extra credit.
The class is pretty tough with a large volume of work. He gives a lot of DQs, but they are easy and you do them at home. He has 2 big exams, but posts a detailed study guide and review slides. He is very passionate about the class and overall very sweet. He gave us 4 different extra credit opportunities. I recommend taking his afternoon sessions.
take someone else if you can. his class is very confusing and disorganized. studying for tests is torture. the midterm review videos and practice test had different answers (even though they were the same questions?). the group projects could be hell if you have a bad group. never responds to emails. don't expect him to help you at all.
Despite it being an online class, deliverables are due every Wednesday and Saturday night, and assignments are locked to the Monday or Thursday before, respectively, only giving 3 days for every assignment, no matter the length. This becomes a huge issue in group projects in an asynchronous setting where your groupmates are unresponsive. Beware.
If you make an effort to participate, this class is a lot easier because he cares a lot about knowing people's name and group discussions. Good extra credit opportunities that helped bump my grades up, but lots of group assignments. Tests were hard but it's a lot of memorization of the slides and following his practice exam that he gives.
This class is a joke. I'm convinced that Nick himself has given the higher ratings because I'm convinced no one in my class even remotely liked this course. Terrible exams where students lose points for trick questions. He isn't clear when he speaks, and just makes it very difficult to learn anything. Avoid!
Honestly, when I saw the reviews before the class, I thought they were an exaggeration, and I walked in with an open mind. But after taking the course, I can say the concerns were accurate. The exams are extremely brutal compared to what is covered in class, and the lectures are often unclear and difficult to follow. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Here's how you do well in this class: Sit in the front and participate. You will hear Dr. Nick clearly, he will learn your name, and he will give you opportunities to answer questions. You MUST pay attention. If you want to sit in the back and half-listen, don't expect to do well. Lectures are boring but it's up to you to make something of it.
Honestly I don't get the hate? Some people say he's hard to understand-- I didn't encounter this problem. DQs due by 7am for most classes (like 5 question quiz based on reading, not hard). Random groups given in beginning of semester you have to complete occasional HWs with. Tests are hard because its content heavy MCQ + boring lectures & subject
SUPER boring lectures and just reads off slides. Tough grader and quizzes are hard due to content heaviness. Sit in the front and participate, will be more lenient with you. In general, not recommended, a boring subject, a boring teacher, and a tough grader. DQ at 7 AM was annoying, and readings often had nothing to do with lectures.
oh no. just no. i scrolled through pinterest in class and participated like once a week and did fine but omg his lectures are so incredibly useless. he read directly off the slides and talked about nothing of substance. i dont understand why this is a required class for business ive never hated anything more.
One word - RUN! Two words - RUN AWAY! Three words - RUN AWAY QUICKLY!
The kind of professor who makes you want to join Squid games instead. Every lecture made me question what I'm doing at Northeastern. He must have some leverage on the admin, because it's hard to fathom how he is still employed.
Worst professor to take
Honestly, I think Dedeke is over-hated. He puts in effort to make lectures less boring, even though the content itself is pretty dry. I didn't do great on the exams, but I still got an A thanks to the curve and tons of extra credit. Overall, if you have a group with at least 3 responsible guy and do the practice exams, dw you'll be fine.
As he did in the positive rating below, Nick makes spelling mistakes among the other irritating things he does to ruin simple material to get on your nerves. You may think I'm joking, but absolutely no one in the class found this course useful. I'm probably going to raise a complaint against this guy.
