Not an easy class at all and very fast paced.
It's a really tough class. She speaks with an accent and moves really quickly. Definitely keep up with the reading and ask questions in class (she hates it when you don't participate).
Dr. O is a great chemistry instructor.
Good and helpful teacher.
Dr. O class is not easy but doable. You will do well if you come to class regularly, listen to lecture and study hard.
Her exams are hard but, now that the semester is over, I can safely say that when Dr. O says that time spent working practice problems is strongly correlated with test scores, she means it!! She is a really sweet and funny prof, I will be taking her for Organic Chem II.
Very tough but doable. When she says do the practice problems in the end of the chapter she really means it! If you do a ton of practice problems, you will do well. At the end of the semester she was very fair with grades.
Good teacher. The class seems hard, with a lot of online homework, but her tests were always easier than I expected. Plus, she is really nice about grades.
Dr. O is an amazing professor who shows her passion for teaching. She genuinely cares and drives you to success.
I feel like Dr. O made chemistry harder than it already is. She didn't explain things with clarity and her accent made the class very difficult to follow.
Dr. O is absolutely amazing. I have enjoyed taking her class. She cares about het students and is always helpful during her office hours. She takes time to explain and clarify the concepts and materials her students need her on.
Dr. O is VERY helpful. She is always willing to stick around after class to answer questions. Organic chemistry is a challenging course, but she makes it clear. Her accent makes it hard to understand her at first, but after a few weeks in her class, you get used to it. I highly recommend Dr. O! :)
Dr. O was very consistent and well-prepared for each lecture. She was willing to meet students after class and encouraged attendance at exam study sessions. Even if her accent was hard to understand sometimes, it made lecture more interesting to listen to. Her sense of humor also made it enjoyable for students attending lectures.
She's such a funny lady! VERY heavy accent, so if you have a hard time with that, this class may be more challenging. She's very helpful, and has many TA study sessions (2-3x per week). Hard class (for me personally) but she is a very good professor. :)
While Dr. o is well-prepared for her class and does care about her students, her teaching style is NOT good. She explains things in such a way that they seem extremely confusing and difficult to grasp, but when i taught myself later i fully understood. Very bad for people who have jobs and depend on class for the most instruction, vs at home study.
Organic Chemistry is a very tough class to begin with, but Dr. O made the subject understandable to me. With the online OWL coursework, I was as prepared for the quizzes and exams as I could be. Don't let the word "take-home" fool you; the take-home portions were way harder than the in-class portions of quizzes and exams. Make sure to study hard!
Dr. O is awesome. If you can get past her accent, then you can do well. Her examples are VERY useful, so study them for the quizzes. Her take-homes are really hard, but the in-class portions are relatively easy. Don't let that fool you on the final, though.
Dr. O is amazing. She is super funny and I always enjoy going to her class. She teaches very hard concepts and does well teaching them. She has a good sense of humor and is always ready to help. Very good preparation and never any surprises on tests or quizzes (and always puts extra credit!)
Dr. O is a very well educated woman who expects her students to come to class prepared. Do your work, study HARD and go over her examples. The exams are difficult to complete on time. Ask questions, but do not just hold up your hand because she won't notice 9 times out of 10. Use caution taking this class if your work load is heavy.
Hard exams, specifically the take-home portions. She is incredibly smart and expects a lot of her students. The lectures are heavy but very helpful and her examples in class are often modified for exam questions. Her accent is tricky to understand, but she is definitely getting better with that.
Go to class, she takes attendance (that's the only reason to go). She uses premade lecture slides from the textbook company with too much information on them. The slides don't have much to do with the testquizzes. She rambles in class which makes for a confusing lecture (ochem is confusing enough as it is). Needs to help our grades out somehow!
She is not clear about her expectations for what we will be tested on. She does appear to care about her students but doesn't seem to back it up with her actions. She says the class average grade is too high so I assume the next exam will be way too difficult. She cracks a few jokes but needs to focus on teaching the material.
In my 3rd semester of Chemistry with Dr O and each has common themes. It is necessary to go to class, listen to the lecture and don't space out. Organic Chemistry is a beast not easily tamed and you have to study and get the material from multiple perspectives. Lecture, read, find YouTube. Don't blame a professor because the material is difficult
Dr. O's organic chemistry class is tough, don't get me wrong, but it is organic chemistry, which in and of itself is a tough subject; however if you listen to the lectures, pay attention to what she focuses on, do the homework and practice, you will pass!! If you blow of lectures and don't do the work necessary of a class like this, you will fail.
She initially seems intimidating but she is actually a good professor. She knows the subject and lectures are on point for tests. Like any other class that has a math element to it, it requires personal practice and she cannot do that for you. Your personal effort will show on tests and quizzes.
I took this class before she changed her teaching style (Because of pullman, so dont blame her). never went to class and passed with a B+. Her lecture slides have worked out problems and are detailed. She gave easy extra credit on our tests. Lab were funeasy. Sometimes hard to understand. 106 is slightly harder but still doable.
If you are going to medical school or grad school, do not take Organic Chemistry with Dr O. Her tests are worded so far from what you'll see in lecture, reading and homework. Her TA grades exams followed by her and its absolutely ridiculous grading. She is nice and willing to help but has unrealistic expectations of her students.
Dr O is an amazing teacher and so smart, but Pullman came down on her to make her tests harder, and they are no joke! This will be the hardest B you'll ever work for, but you'll be happy about it!
With Dr. O's Organic Chemistry, you get out of it what you put into it. She does not make tests horrendous and gives lots of easy points and offers extra credit on exams that is not out of the scope of the class. I could imagine Organic Chemistry being taught much harder, but I couldn't imagine it being much easier.
Enjoyed this class.
Dr. O is an awesome professor. She knows what she's talking about. Getting extra is a big plus if you want clarification about something. Study hard for exams but don't overthink them.
Dr. O has a tough class, I wont lie. But if you go to lectures and pay attention and do the homework and some practice problems you'll do well. Chemistry can be a hard subject, so go see Dr. O she'll and get help, or talk to her TA if you don't want to approach her. Labs can be pretty fun, sometimes confusing, usually they're good though.
If someone gave me the choice to be in a den of hungry lions or go to her class I'd rather be in the Lions den, she is boring and does not like to interact with students..... she's helpful one on one but in class good luck knowing what she's talking about In class. She assigned alot of homework not saying it was all hard but just a ton.
I really liked Dr. O. She was very clear from the get-go that coming to class, doing the homework, and seeking out help would help phenomenally. My only regret is not listening to her until half of the semester was over, but I did learn my lesson and will work even harder in CHEM 106.
Took Chem 105, as it is mandatory for EE majors for some reason. I could have done better if I had completed all of the modules in OWL V2. My advice to someone taking this class is to complete all of the homework to 100%
Dr. O is Very difficult to understand, blasts through the material at warp 9 and expects students to teach themselves Chemistry at home. The Owl program she uses is a pain to navigate, but works decent for exam practice (mainly because you need multiple chances to try the questions and repetition is the key). Print out the slides, PAY ATTENTION!
The phrase "we don't give grades, you earn them" has never been more applicable than in Dr. O's class. The work is tough, but the grading is incredibly fair, and she'll never put a problem on an exam that isn't on the lecture slides. Come to class prepared, work hard, and you'll do well. I highly recommend taking Chem 101 first to prepare.
This class is difficult no matter who teaches the material. This could have been so much worse but she does what she can to make sure students are given every opportunity to succeed. Any poor grades are due to a lack of effort by the student, or because they don't voice their concern. She works with students and is always willing to help.
This class may be difficult but if you're genuinely interested in the material or are anyone who is going into any health programs this class is worth it. Dr. O really does prepare you and her tests are very fair if you study and do your homework.
Chemistry is my favorite subject so it was an easy class for me. Dr. O puts everything on her slides so I highly suggest studying them for tests, they really help, especially if she decides to make the test harder. GO TO THE SI SESSIONS AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. They are VERY helpful and make the class SO MUCH easier. Put in effort and you will get an A
One of the hardest classes I've taken, she's pretty intense and tends to go through material very fast. She's now doing i-clicker exams and will pull material from the reading and her future power point slides. Exams are complex and have multiple parts to each question. Use up as much of the notecard that you can with polyatomic ions and equations!
If there was a different professor I would have taken it. Be prepared to teach yourself, especially difficult on topics. She has clicker questions at the beginning or end of every lecture, and they are worth a lot so keep up on the reading. Do good in lab it will help your grade. I spent over 10 hours of studying a week for this class, so study!
You definenitly have to teach yourself in some capacities but this class is hard in a motivating way. It is easy to pass even if you fail exams but she has a way to motivate you where you want to do better. Plus she is always wanting feedback on her work and willing to improve as long as the request seems reasonable. She is approachable given time
If I could give her 0 stars I would. Honestly she's extremely hard to understand with a thick accent and expects you to immediately comprehend the topics. When her TA's for the class lectured while she was gone everything was clear and understandable, but that sweet sweet taste of real teaching was quickly obliterated once she returned. Good luck!
Dr. O has constant participation & reading quizzes, but if you follow along with the reading they aren't too terrible. Her accent can make it sometimes hard to follow the lecture, but printing out the slides (and reading) helps compensate. She often poorly answers the questions asked during lecture, but seeing her during office hours helps out.
Terrible teacher. iclicker quizzes every day at the start of class. Flies through material and thick accent makes it harder to catch. Expected to have read the chapters and fully understand it before class (for quizzes). Concepts are not explained, you just need to know it from the book. Tells you "PAY ATTENTION" every other sentence.
This is the hardest class that I have taken. You MUST read and you MUST do practice problems relating to lecture and the homework daily to understand. She is very smart, and very nice during her office hours, but maybe needs to slow down her lectures to make it easier to learn the content.
Dr. O was an amazing teacher! The subject was ridiculously difficult (and tbh her accent was a little difficult to understand), but she seemed to genuinely care about her students and was always available to talk outside of class. I personally would recommend NOT reading the textbook, but reading her lecture notes instead before class. Way easier.
Dr. O is extremely smart. Her exams are SUPER HARD. She seems mean and hard to talk to but she's the sweetest woman ever. You can always ask her questions and she is fair and square. Don't slack off. If you get even a C in her class you'll be READY for the DAT. In fact, you will laugh at DAT questions. KEEP UP WITH YOUR LECTURE NOTES
Let's be real, chemistry is a really difficult subject, so if you want to succeed, you need to put the work in. Dr. O makes chemistry seem accessible, she's a highly intelligent person and truly cares about students and their success. If you're struggling, definitely go to her office hours, attend SI sessions, and do practice problems.
This teacher was uncaring and apathetic toward her students. She assigned long research papers and quizzes that were due in a short amount of time, making her class difficult and impossible to learn anything in. I strongly dissuaded anyone from taking classes that this professor is teaching.
Weekly homework, two exams and multiple choice ACS final. In lab, weekly quizzes and worksheets. Honestly mostly review from 345. She can be very loud in the morning, but good at lecturing and always answers questions. Lots of memorizing reactions and mechanisms. Gave extra credit on exams and for survey and course assessment. Pro tip: study book.
Can not understand her because of her accent. had to study by myself. Not recommended at all
Unfortunately if youre at WSUV, Dr. O is like the only professor available for the organic chemistry series so be prepared. If you dont do your assigned readings you will struggle. She barely teaches the material in class and then expects you to teach yourself via the textbook. Absolutely ridiculous. Unlike any other class Ive ever taken.
At the beginning of the semester it might feel overwhelming to be in Dr. O's class, but as you get into a rhythm it'll get easier. Be sure to attend class, and utilize the lab TA's and supplemental instruction, it makes everything significantly more manageable. All in all, I'm looking forward to having Dr. O in my future courses.
Dr. O has a nice sense of humor, and is approachable, except during lecture. Her lectures contain 100's of slides, and she rumbles on too quickly to write anything down. It also takes about half a semster to get use to her accent. Iclicker quizzes everyday, so read ALL of the requried material, and pratice! Exams are extremely difficult too.
OChem is very difficult. I have nothing against the instructor, she's an ok choice is you plan to take the course in the Fall/Spring. Do not take OChem in the Summer. WSUV should not offer it. It is impossible to cram 15 weeks of course material in 8 weeks. I did not get out much from the course and overall, it was a failing class. Heavily curved.
Dr. O is the best professor I've ever had at WSUV. Her class is definitely tough and keeping up with reading and lectures is a must. If you don't do these things you are most likely to not succeed in her class. She's a very knowledgeable person and is always helpful during office hours.
Dr. O is incredible at teaching these difficult topics. Review of her lecture slides and the readings from the textbook are necessary outside of class as she prefers to use class time for problem solving sets where she works through problems you will be given on exams. Do NOT skip class and attend all SI sessions if possible.
Dr. O is a great teacher! Ochem is tough, but she works through a lot of problems in class & seems to care about her students. She does Reef quizzes & for a lot of them gives an extra question she's explained the answer to for EC. You won't pass if you're not attending lecture. She really makes a terrible subject bearable & she's low key funny.
I had Dr. O for two semesters and I have to say that I have never had a better professor. She is amazing and I have the upmost respect for her. I am not saying she is easy, she isn't. You will have to put forth max effort, but it is worth it. This track is the foundation that you need to be successful in the rest of your education.
Dr. O is an excellent professor, probably one of my favorites. I am not sure why anyone would say she is difficult to understand. Her accent is crystal clear and I understood everything she said. I think people use it as an excuse to blame her for their lack of efforts. Work hard and you will be successful in this course.
Prepare yourself to work hard in this class, it isn't going to be easy. It is doable if you put in the effort. Do the homework and go to SI and you will be successful. There are no free A's in this course but Dr. O is amazing and you will learn so much from her. You can count on her help if you need it. She is a wonderful professor.
Dr. O heavily values how fast you can do chemistry. If it takes you awhile to do math, then figure out how to do it faster because she will not accommodate. Seems like she takes pride in making the class difficult for every student. Unfortunately she's the only chem prof at WSUV so you don't have a choice whether or not you take her. Good luck.
Anyone who complains about Dr. O never had a bad chemistry professor in the past. I took for her CHEM 105, 106, and 345. Her class is set up for the success of the student who puts in the work. She does her best to explain the material thoroughly, do example problems, and only questions she did in class are on the exams. Don't be lazy in her class
Really pay attention during lecture in gen chem, she is a professional who knows her stuff and has her lectures down to a science, so they are very quick but intensely informative. Really make sure to use all the tools she provides for success because she is working to make you a better scientist and it is challenging.
Dr. O is a strict but kind professor who does her best to ensure student success. She provides several resources to help, and her lectures are fast and content heavy, but very helpful and in depth. She is very knowledgeable and answers all questions to help students understand the content. Attend SI, do the HW, and ask questions to be successful.
If you have to take the Chemistry sequence at WSUV then good luck. Dr. O is your only choice of professor and she is terrible. You would be better off doing the Chemistry sequence at Clark and saving yourself some money. Class average on our midterm exam was 50% and she acted like it was our fault. She lectures like we all have our phD in chemistry
She is very knowledgeable, she gives you all the tools you need to succeed in her class. She shows how you can get more help for material you do not understand. She is fast paced but that is why you should look at her resources. You need to be ready to put in the work if math a hard for you. Practice problems are key in succeeding in her exams.
Dr. O is a very smart and awesome professor. In the beginning of the Gen chem series I struggled to figure out the rhythm of the class but got the hang of it by the second exam. Dr. I cares very much about her students and always makes sure all questions are answered. Make sure you attend every lecture otherwise you may miss crucial information.
She cannot effectively convey knowledge in organic. She would do well to stick with gen chem.
Straight up the hardest intro to chem I have ever taken. It was hard to keep up after the first 5 weeks went by. The exams are all qualitative so literally everything has to be learned and understood to pass. In class participation is part of your grade and attendance. She speeds through lectures because she expects you to read a lot before class.
She is not easy. her teaching style is for a small group of learning styles. If attendance wasn't mandatory it wouldn't be worth going to class, you are going to have to teach yourself anyways. Take notes, attend SI sessions, do the practice questions and study that's the only way to pass. She blames the students for her low class average on exams.
Hardest class I've taken so far and it's only a 100. Participation is through iclickers & if you get the question wrong you lose points. Always do practice problems bc if you don't you'll have a tough time on the exams. Review the lectures & find help if you need it. Exam averages were very low. Some extra credit available but not much.
Dr. O's lectures were clear and the way she explained everything made it easy to understand if you pay attention. Best if you go over some of the lectures before class, because of the iClicker attendance quizzes, but it really isn't needed most of the time. A lot of extra credit and the tests are not bad if you do the review practice problems.
Dr. O is a great resource for learning chemistry. She talks coherently, wants to see her students succeed, and overall is enthusiastic to answer questions and be available. Her exams are fair, and you will be fine if you put in the effort to succeed, which most do in this course. I will take further courses with her and recommend all to as well.
Make sure to read all the slides she makes before she goes over them in class, if you don't you will fail. Make sure to read the textbook before class starts, she will quiz you on this material before she teaches you, if you don't know it you will fail. Make sure to pace your time she gives a lot of homework on week intervals of about 30~ problems.
Unrealistic criteria and expectations. Told my class that she provided all of the necessary materials for our success. At the start of my semester we had 80+ students. By the end we have around 40. I'm unsure how many passed, but she refuses to curve. If you have to take her course, good luck. Personally she's great, as a professor she is subpar.
Dr. O is a great professor that provides an endless amount of resources to succeed in her class. Although 105 is hard it is DOABLE.
Shes never available for communication, reached out multiple times over multiple platforms to discuss accommodations as I'm a disabled student and she never responded. Extremely thick accent, and is always bashing students for asking questions in class. You have to learn by yourself. She doesn't take the time to truly teach.
Dr.O is one of the most amazing professors I have had in school. She is genuinely so caring. She very clearly lays out her expectations, homework, and the exam dates at the begining. As long as you pay attention this class is very DOABLE! Before any exam starts, she gives you a few minutes to look over the test. Love her 10/10 and def recommend!
Dr. O is a great professor. She's very clear with her expectations, and emphasizes that she knows the material is difficult but doable. She wants you to succeed in the class, but you have to earn your grade. She will not just hand you an "A" if you simply show up and not participate in lecture. Put in the work, and you'll pass. Use class resources.
Dr. O Genuinely cares about her students, and she gives everyone a fair chance at a good grade. If you put in the effort then you will be able to get an A in this class. She offers extra credit in a few categories (including attendance, mssc sign ins, and a few iclicker ones). She also does great reviews in during class, and always tries to help!
Dr. O is by far one of my favorite professors! If you are not going to put in the work to succeed in this class you will not, Dr. O makes her expectations very clear and is more than willing to provide resources outside of lecture to help with the content. She is not one to hold your hand through the course, but this class is fun and DOABLE!
Dr. O puts tons of effort into her lectures and in providing learning materials for her students! She also is great about listening to students and answering any questions! Putting in effort is so important in this class! Dr.O expects student to be invested in their learning and wants us to succeed which is what makes her such an amazing teacher!!!
Dr. O is one of the best professors I've had over my years in college. I had her for CHEM105 and now for 106. Her classes are difficult, don't get me wrong, but if you put in the work and pay attention, you'll find that all the work is doable. She's a graceful lecturer, and I'm really bummed out I won't have her for OCHEM!
Dr. O is the best! She seems intimidating at first, but really cares about her students and their success. She challenges you to do your best and understand topics so that you are more prepared for your future. She will emphasize that the work is doable! Which it is. I had Dr. O for both Gen Chems and OChem and I thoroughly enjoyed it. :)
Chemistry is hard, but Dr. O made it doable. Clear grading criteria with extra credit opportunities. Takes attendance and participation grades with "iclicker" quizzes every day. Overall the lab portion ended up being much more work than the lecture. Very approachable outside of class and willing to answer questions in class.
You need to actively take notes before and during lectures in order to keep up with the course. As long as you use the resources provided to you and work hard, you should be fine in this course.
This class is the hardest, most stressful I have ever taken and the only reason I passed was because of the professor. She is definitely scary but she also sacrificed her personal time to help the students pass the class and gave extra credit. She has high standards but will help you achieve them.
One of the best professors that I ever had. I highly recommend taking her class. She makes chemistry fun!
Insane amounts of extra credit. I could have not taken the final and still gotten a B-. You have to pay attention during lectures, taking an intro course before this also helps. You do have to earn your grade in this class, and the lab is lots of work, but if you manage your time well and put some effort in you'll be fine. Caring but fastidious.
Not my favorite, there was a ton of work, and a lot didn't seem too necessary. Also, you have to pay for lots of extra required materials, like the one needed to take attendance in the class.
Textbook is technically required, but I didn't use it. Lecture slides are provided and helpful (read them before each lecture and take notes!!). Speaking of, lectures are important to attend; she takes attendance through iClicker. The exams are very similar to the exam reviews that she posts, so make sure to go through those.
