Not a very helpful/experienced prof. Extremely rigid.
Very clear about expectations and helpful
She is so funny and really smart. Ii really enjoy her class
while expectations are made clear, adina does not believe in putting any of her exacting rules into print. you will write furiously to catch everything she says. she also plays favorites heavily, eating up class time to joke around with her "friends" in the class, overanxious, ass-kissing nerds. avoid if possible.
Prof. Schick is the best!!!
She is so beautiful, it is ridiculous. Also one of the smartest people I have ever brain scanned.
She is a very tough professor and she has very high standards, and to be quite honest, taking her class made my interest in the subject diminish to practically nothing.
I have taken Professor Schick in both Developmental and Fieldwork. Many students think she is stern but when you get to know her, she is actually hilarious and awesome. Yes, she makes you work HARD, but I enjoy learning and pushing myself. Her demands led me to not only get an A in th course, but also to learn so much. Highly recommended.
This class was one of the most ridiculously difficult I've ever taken. Adina was not helpful and refused to answer my emailed questions. The TA was incomprehensible and incompetent. Adina should really consider getting her doctorite before attempting to teach this class again.
Definitely a difficult class, but Prof Schick was extremely helpful and was always willing to meet with students who asked for help preparing for the exams.
Although she is incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable in the field, shes not the most engaging lecturer. The exams test how well you could memorize the textbook rather than apply concepts.
Adina demands high quality work but will help you achieve it. She is helpful and genuine. She has a snarky humor which keeps things interesting and you can tell she really cares!
Adina gets a reputation as being tough and sarcastic for the way she carries herself in the context of class. While she does expect quality work, she helps you create it. She is one of the most helpful professors I've ever had at NYU. She is extraordinarily smart and eloquent. If you seek her help, she will provide you with honest and cares a lot.
Adina is great. It took me a little while to realize I liked her, as she can at first come off as cold and strict. Her classes may be difficult, but you learn a lot, and the end of the semester grades are higher than you would have thought. I'm pretty sure she does this on purpose to get you to freak out and work harder. It works.
Adina is a great professor. She has the reputation for being harsh and strict, but its really for your benefit. She really wants to help the students learn as much as they can. She expects quality work but the class time itself is easy and interesting.
I wanted to post a review (because it's been so long since the last one). Mandatory attendance is recorded using i-clicker questions. Textbook is not really required, but is very helpful for studying. The slides she provides are okay; however, most of the in-class knowledge comes from what she says. Schick is very clear and fair, as a teacher.
She is super clear in what she teaches, what she expects us know, and her grading criteria. If you do your study - and actually know everything - its an easy A. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS - best thing I did
Professor Schnick is always available to talk to after class so you can tell she cares about her students passing. She uses clickers which record your attendance and participation points so GO TO LECTURE! There are three exams that aren't cumulative so not too difficult but you still have to work for your grade.
Dr. Schick is one of the best professors in NYU. She cares about her students and can tell if you are actually trying. She is always willing to answer any questions and meet outside of class. She is also funny and likes to joke around. I became close with her and maintained a relationship with her after the class. She's awesome.
She is not very enthusiastic, but it is an intro course so who is? She makes it clear what she is looking for and she really wants her students to do well. Her tests are on a lot of stuff so make sure to keep up with the readings. She does do review questions before every class so make sure to bring your iclicker. Pay attention in lecture, it helps
Dr. Schick is one of my all-time favorite professors. She teaches intro to applied psychology (in Steinhardt) and is a great first professor to have as you begin your time at NYU. There is a lot of textbook reading, but she reinforces this with great lectures. She is also extremely helpful during her office hours and is a fantastic resource.
honestly its an easy class if you read and go to class. she does i clickers so attendance is mandatory and the lectures are pretty boring. overall the class is WAY easier than intro to psych at CAS so definitely take it here if you want an easier time
Attendance matters. She gives out review questions that demands students to answer with an I-clicker. If you don't show up, you will lose points. She posts lecture slides online in advance, you can make great use out of those. She also gives out test guidelines in advance. Following the guideline religiously while reviewing guarantees a good score
Prof. Schick is an organized, fair, and knowledgeable professor. She's very organized and is very clear about what she expects. She's very fair in her grading criteria of the lecture and provides study sessions with her TAs. She made the course very straightforward and really emphasizes how students can improve.
Adina is a good lecturer, but make sure you show up on time so you get full credit for the i>clicker questions!! That's how she grades your for participation. She can be a little dry, but she ultimately wants to help you succeed in APUG.
Participation is marked by the i-clickers so it's important you show up to class to get those points. She was a good professor, lectures were boring at times but if you are interested in psychology the class will be interesting. 3 tests, no midterm or final and you have to do 1 applied assignment. She offers advice on how to improve in the class.
Test is very difficult. She doesn't give practice tests. Questions on test are unpredictable. Impossible to memorize every term/detail in the textbook. You will never know what detail will be tested.
Class is interesting and she's well respected in her field and a smart professor but this is not an easy A class. She intentionally makes the class difficult to weed out students who are interested in psychology and the students who are there for an easy A. Take if passionate, not if you're lazy.
The seminar classes are an absolute joke. We don't learn anything but we are required to attend every class. She plays favorites and is condescending to everyone else who isn't a kiss-ass. If I could do it all over again I would have stayed at CAS so I would have never had to waste my time in this class.
Honestly, her tests are really hard and the study guides she gives could be improved
Professor Schick's lectures are A LOT to take in, they are very informational and only occasionally entertaining. She's very knowledgable but her tests are very hard, a lot of memorization and textbook readings.
Prof Schick is one of the smartest people I've ever heard talk. She is incredible and knows everything about what she lectures on. If you have questions during class she always has an answer. There is a lot of info to learn, but it is very worthwhile
Prof Schick's is very lecture heavy and you must attend class for participation through iclickers and to understand the material. Lots of reading but are usually interesting and engaging. Just put in the work and effort and you'll get a good grade
Honestly, if you show up to the lecture, take notes, and study, it should be an easy A. Where I went wrong was sleeping through (online!) lectures, and that took a huge toll on my grade even though I would have gotten an A otherwise. Clicker questions and attendance matter!! The tests are very fair and she offers a small amount of extra credit.
Syllabus, grading criteria, and lectures are clear and prepared well. Attendance is graded through questions at the beginning of class so you need to be there. The course is set up for success meaning that if you read the assigned work, you will be able to pass. Course assistants and the professor are accessible and will answer all questions
If you don't read the textbook you won't pass the exams. Class is simply her going over the textbook information. The Study Guide is just a page of vague topics. She is not a mean professor, but her teaching style can be difficult to grasp. There is no homework except to read which is not checked. Online, you can choose an asynchronous path.
attendance matters. So does textbook reading. Not at all a class, you breeze through. put in the world and u will do well.
It's important to notice every single moment in her lecture! as long as you notice that and take her classes seriously (by watching it again and again), you can get a good grade. but it took me so long time to realize that. It's sad
Very unfriendly. Shes not helpful outside the class. Even when emailing her, she never responded directly to a question, using an arrogant tone. SHE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER
Really enjoyed this class. Learned a lot. The lectures were clear and interesting, and the professor was helpful during office hours. I also liked that we had the option to attend synchronously or asynchronously and that we could change our path at a few points in the semester.
If you're on her list of favorites, you will love her & do well. Participation REALLY matters. Lots of group projs so it's important who you partner with. Prof Schick is kind and understanding, however sometimes she can give off an uninterested and picky vibe. She won't call on you for participation, so it's completely on you. Not good for shy ppl.
Tends to come off as harsh and intimidating since she doesn't answer your questions in class. Do the readings and go to recitation, it boosts your grades. Thank god for the TA though.
she's the worst professor ever and is being very strict on attendance. I only missed 1-2 polls per class since I had some tech issues or i wasn't able to react and she gave me a very bad grade for participation.
Hard class, but learned so much. Can choose to attend synchronously or asynch. I choose synch all semester and there werr like 3-5 polling questions each class, spread hroughout the lecture. You don't even have to get them right to get full credit. Just gotta answer to show you're listening which I liked!
Love her. She is so nice I hope I can take developmental with her. She always made disclaimers before talking about something that could trigger people and allow students to step away for a moment. Class notes are always important. She always rephrases complex concepts so it's good for notes.
shes the worst professor ever and she destroyed my freshmen year dream lol
OH MY GOD! PLZ DONT TAKE HER COURSE. SHE IS JUST LIKE AN EVIL!!!!!!! SHE torture student for fun!!!!!!
Do the readings and go to the lectures. Heavy workload but Dr. Schick is very clear about what you need to do to get the best grades. The tests are fairly easy (IF you read and keep up with class!) and her lectures are fast paced and engaging. She's respectful about possibly triggering subjects and occasionally throws in jokes. You'll learn lots.
As a scholar, Dr.Schick was doing her job. But as a professor/dean of APUG, she tends to exhibit a low tolerance for mistakes and high egocentricity. When I fail anything, talking with her makes me feel panicky and self-loathed, and always puts me in an anxious mood. Like even a small mistake can end up in some catastrophic results.
The Professor lectures fast paced. You need to really concentrate on listening. The reading is also mandatory if you want to get a good grade. My grade is basically damaged by TA. Choose TA wisely, guys.
Really lecture-heavy, and you HAVE to keep up with the reading. Her exams are really hard, but if you put in the effort, then you will learn a ton. She is overall a good professor and is really straightforward about her expectations. Take the class if you are willing to put in the work.
Professor Schick has been quite awful. As a lecturer, she is very clear, but as a professor has little interaction with the students. The TAs handle all the work, and while I was lucky to have a good TA, Prof. Schick was the opposite. She goes too fast at times, and her exams do not correlate much with the lectures, but with the readings instead.
Teaching style is very bland - Dr. Schick essentially just takes her slides word-for-word from the online textbook and recites them during lecture. Attendance is mandatory because of online polling questions. The professor makes comments such as "if you get this question wrong, you don't deserve to pass the exam" & is not accessible for help.
Prof Schick is a knowledgable professor. Tests are difficult and specific - write down EVERYTHING said in class. Look into who your TA is bc mine really threw a wrench in my experience and grade. 3 tests, 4 required applied activities, and attendance polls. Tests were curved up at the end. Overall manageably good but challenging.
A lot of content for Intro to Psych! Must take notes on the textbook and in class (tests are on the difficult side covering multiple topics), but Schick is extremely knowledgeable and throws in jokes. Her lectures are great, but the readings for homework are A LOT to take in. One full reading/ taking notes of key terms took me about 3 hours.
Arrogant, uninterested, and completely inaccessible for help. Lectures are as dry and boring as can be, might as well just read the slides yourself. Absolutely miserable prof and class, highly recommend against taking.
She has good information to give, if you can stand the 50 ways she'll make you feel inferior and stupid before she actually says anything helpful. The class is super hard, its easy to miss important info, and I have never felt worse about myself in my life. This class has single-handedly made me hate my major.
Professor Schick was indeed a fantastic professor throughout the semester! She truly cared about her students and didn't want any single student to fail her course. Her lectures were super engaging, and she has a passionate teaching style. Although she may seem scary, she has a warm heart. Also, she is super knowledgeable with keen insight.
Adina is a tough grader but her lecture is super organized, informative, clear, and inspiring! Highly recommend her!!
Take her if you want your GPA to tank.
Dr Schick may seem scary but she's a very good person and excellent professor. Her lectures are so entertaining and she jokes around a lot. She has taught us so much and she really cares about her students. Don't be scared for seminar, you got this. Just turn in everything and pay attention in class!
She's a pretty good professor with very organized lectures. You should definitely take notes! Her exams can be a little difficult, but not unmanageable.
Beyond amazing professor! Dr. Shick is brilliant in her studies and is so well organized and thorough in her class. It is a lot of information, but Dr. Shick makes it easier to understand with her detailed examples. If you follow the guidelines, read textbook, take notes in class, and study lots, you will do well. Amazing teacher highly recommend!
I genuinely didn't think I was going to end with an A- in this class, but it's because of Dr. Schick's dedication and the supportive TA's that I did. She offers good extra credit on the exams, which she didn't need to do. Just show up to class, do the online textbook readings, and take detailed notes! Other than that, she's an icon, really.
Prof Schick was an amazing professor. She moved quickly and we covered a lot each class, but she made the material memorable. She gave surprise extra credit for two out of the three tests we took, and there was no official midterm or final. I would absolutely take her class again.
Attendance is very important for this class as most information is given as she lectures and not on the slides. The class is not difficult once you study, take notes, and read the textbook. She includes extra credit opportunities on all the tests and in some cases additionally after it has been graded. She offers the class on zoom as well.
A no-nonsense type of professor who will teach the material and clarify questions. Had funny quips throughout the semester. Won't hold your hand but a great introduction to psychology and its principles!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Her lectures are so interesting, captivating, and never boring. Yes this class requires work, but if you go to lecture, take notes, and read the textbook you'll do great.
Adina is very no-nonsense, and her lectures are very straightforward. However, the tests are super detail-oriented, and each one is 20% of your grade. So, if you mess up the first test, you have to work super hard to save your grade. She did offer extra credit sometimes.
required readings, she will add random topics from the book onto the exam without discussing them in class prior to the exams, slides presented in class are don't really help, refuses to post the zoom recording to help study for exams, and you are also required to answer poll questions throughout the class but only gives you 10 seconds to answer.
the worst course I have ever taken
Worst professor of my entire life. She cannot handle negative feedbacks, listens only to prove you wrong. As the head APUG, jokes about mental health ("don't come to me having panic attacks about your paper"). She doesn't put any instructions on most important projects, she says them out loud in class and you better be ready to write them down.
Monotone but good with getting exam info to you. Reading takes super long and feels kind of pointless because she just says it in class. Just read the studies and listen/take notes in class. Tests are super easy and not tricky if you study and know your stuff. Don't do asynchronous path (you'll spend more time reading/note taking then just going)
Make sure to read the syllabus. But besides that, I had a great time in Dr. Schick's Honors course! She dives into lots of interesting topics and makes you thing why things are the way that they are in society. Would definitely recommend!
Grading system is about as good as it gets with everything being weighted the same. Super lecture heavy and attendance is taken thru random polls throughout class if you choose synchronous attendance (there's async too). Can be difficult but if you pay attention and read you'll be fine
A no-nonsense type of professor. Lectures can get boring and monotonous at times, but Prof. Schick does her best to try and keep the class engaged with poll questions that are used for attendance. Class is graded mainly on three difficult tests, which require long studying periods to succeed. Overall fine, nothing special though.
TAs are all amazing! extra credit options are plenty + she adds points to grade if class average goes up. exams were pretty neat 3/5 difficulty -- if u study ull be fine, lecture notes are more important than the textbook for the exam, straightforward, large class, zoom classes available if sick also for the sem overall if u choose that, respectful
TAs are amazing! Super lecture heavy course but if you pay attention, study, and read, you'll be fine (I didn't read much). She gives extra credit opportunities and adds points to test scores if class average goes up significantly. Very no nonsense but it's pretty chill overall
Dr. Schick did not tolerate answers she didn't want to hear during lectures. She put people on the spot and grilled them for having different opinions, even though they had solid reasoning. Her lecture style was quite discouraging. The attendance process was unnecessarily complicated. Mean sense of humor. She was a lot nicer during office hours.
I'm scared to even speak to her; the way she talks to students and belittles them is so hurtful. I don't even know why I signed up for this class; the tests are insane and worth your entire grade. It's not worth risking your GPA. If you dare to raise your hand in that 100-person lecture, you will feel stupid after.
Great lectures covering the information in depth; can be a bit boring but class attentiveness and taking notes will get you pretty far. Make sure you study and attend the review sessions for exams. Prof Schick is very to the point/no-nonsense, but helpful during office hours and tries to answer as many in-class questions as possible during lecture.
Professor Schick is an amazing professor. I haven't finished her course yet, but she often states lecture points in her own words. She also have slides on the screen that is not included in the Brightspace presentation package. I think she's one of my favorite professors in that she is direct and shows videos to further articulate her points.
bad professor, shitty tests, and need to read textbook.
She can be sarcastic at times but never means any harm. She does multiple "attendance" checks in each lecture through online questions. 3 tests, 35 multiple choice with 15 fill-in-the-blanks and 2 extra credit. I really enjoyed that she uses videos in class and at times personal stories. Choose the synchronous path since not every slide is posted
Dr. Schick is an amazing professor, she offers really good extra credit on exams and only puts topics discussed on the tests. She takes attendance through polls, the test's are not difficult if you put in the effort and study for them. I would say to read the textbook because t's helpful. Overall I loved this class and Dr. Schick is an ICON.
It is easy to get a good grade if you review all of the content and nothing on the exams are completely obscure. I recommend studying early and reading the textbook. Lectures are boring though and the tests are content-heavy.
good professor
Dr. Schick is an incredible professor. She offers good extra credit on the exams, and always offers n person office hours once a week. She takes attendance through polling questions in class, which is 20% of your grade so it makes it easier to get an A. There is three tests, study read the textbook, and you'll be fine. The TA's are amazing as well!
Almost 2026 and we still don't have our grades back…. They were due weeks ago
She's def rating herself lol
