This m%^$#@ think he so smart
He knows his history, but does not lecture. Goes off subject all the time.
gives a quite a bit of work, excellent teacher, knows his material.
GIVES WAY TOO MUCH WORK. BUSY WORK LIKE NO OTHER!!! During class is really easy.
he's a smart guy but class is boring and attendance is required. lots of busy work each week. finals are hard and he doesn't prepare you for them!
Professor Ah is very smart. He know his History. He gives a lot of work but you will remember your History when he get done with you. He also looks good. Go professor Ah you are a hot boy!!!!
kinda nice but not helpful - not clear on expectations - seems to be little uninterested in class at time - not difficult though
simple exams
He is helpful if you go to office hours. tests are hard, lectures are boring and he takes attendance and takes oof points if u miss class. Gives lots of extra credit.

Dr. Ah is an excellent teacher. If you want to learn something about the REAL history of America, you should definitely take his class! The exams are easy just make sure you read. Each chapter is only 4-8 pages. How hard is that to read?
Inspiring & enlightening lectures all about the facts of U.S. History. I learn a lot just from his lectures alone. Reading material given is worth it! He brings history to life.
does not prepare you for exams, which are hard. attendance is mandatory. knows his material, but gets distracted easily and his head is always in another place. boring lectures
Horrible teacher! Tests are near impossible with no prep, he makes you go to class and if you miss days he takes away your extra credit that you do, and he is unfair in his grading!!!
worst teacher i have had at state. Ufair tests, not helpful, and ****.
He knows a lot about history. The lectures are most of the time boring, but give a lot of inside on real american history. His test are really hard, make sure you come to class will take off a lot of points.gives a grip of extra credit thats howI got an A
HE IS VERY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE US HISTORY, GIVES GREAT FACTS ABOUT AFRICAN HISTORY AND ON GOING CASES AND NEWS. BUT HARD WHEN IT COMES TO QUIZES AND EXAMS
Impossible teacher is you don't share same beliefs as him. A lot of writing and a lot of boring lectures. Don't take!
The most unfair, uncaring, and kind of evil teacher at state. Do what ever you have to do to not take any class with him.
post lectures online. go to class, makes it real easy on tests and knowledgable. most, if not all questions on test from back of units in book. really great teacher.
This is a great professor and a pretty easy A IF YOU: come to class, do some of the reading, and stay on his good side. Tons of extra credit!!!
go to class, read, DO E.C!!! and you can get an A. i got a very high A in his class. hes a good teacher. take him
Quizes and Exams are really hard. The questions do not relate to the overall teachings. They are based on detail and little characterstics. The lectures are extremely boring but are posted on Black Board and the book is mandatory for the class. You have to read the book and do the questions.
Dr. A is a wonderful professor. His tests and quizzes are super easy just read the book which has short chapters anyways.
Dr. Ah puts up a front like he's down but he grades very strict. His class is designed to get you an easy A but if you don't study you grade will suffer. The class is a joke, the textbook is practically an elementary school book, tons of extra credit (especially if you have him during BHM).Take AH
good learning
lectures are boring because he just reads the power point. not very helpful when you don't understand, just reply's that it's easy. lectures are posted on blackboard if you miss class but he is strict on attendence. has issues with females, acts like they are dumb. watch your grade to make sure he gives you your points. do the extra credit to pass.
Don't take this class. He Has no methodology for grading, Very arbitrary when it comes to grading. if you care about your GPA avoid him. I consider myself a very good writer, I got a 12 on my RWS test on my first try, but Dr. Ah would not give me anything better then a C on my papers and final.
Attend class, read the text, do the research, quote your sources including info from his lectures, power point and notes do the extra credit and you'll ace the coourse.
Dr. Ak is a very good professor. he knows his subject and clearly gets his points across. if you are interested in the subject, you will enjoy his lectures.
If you are not African, you will feel attacked. He's really strict on tardiness and attendance.
DR. ALK WAS A GOOD TEACHER. HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKIN ABOUT AND THE COURSE AND LECTURES OUR INTERESTING. LET'S YOU KNOW WHAT'S ON THE EXAM AND QUIZZES BEFORE HAND..READ THE BOOK [W/SHORT CHAPTERS] AND STUDY AND YOU'LL DO GOOD.
He is an **** to the 10th degree. Watch out! Love the class, hate the Prof!
Luv'd the class but if you are not ready to discuss race relations then I wouldn't recomend it. Weekly online posts were fun and great for class discussion. This class really interested me and I hope to take Alkebulan n the future
I am an A student with a 3.9 GPA, and I am having a hard time trying to pass this class, he makes it impossible to get good grades, his 'study guides' are a joke, to have any hope of passing you have to attend all of the extra credit, which he rarely gives much notice for. Do NOT take this class, it is horrible!!!!!!!!!!!
Great teacher, really makes you think about race relations. If you enjoy learning new things and have an open mind towards another opinion, this class rocks. Getting an A is hard, but the grade poorly reflects the quality of the education you get. What you learn from this class cannot be represented by a grade. i loved it.
Study Guides he gives out are worthless. Often lazy and disorganized. I had him for 170B and he was fine. Now he's slackin a bit. Offers a lot of extra credit. Class is interesting. I reccommend study groups. He knows his stuff.
Dr. A. is very well informed on the information covered which helps when it comes to his explanations on paticular topics. Whether your African American or not, you'll learn a lot about people and topics you were never exposed to before. Great class. oh, and make sure to speak up when he asks questions. It'll definately help you out during tests.
Class is just all lecture, but it's very structured and easy to follow. The class is interesting and it broadened my knowledge of the subject. Definately recommend to students.
Dr. Ah is the man.VERY Knowledgable and is not bias. The class is the truth,I wish everyone could take it..Do the Xtra Credit(DOIT!),read and youll do fine.Study guides arnt much help but this isnt your traditional college class.he wants you to learn the stuff. Not just study to pass the test.Real coo, down to earth guy.Make sure to go to class though
Dr. Ah's a good guy, and the class content is GREAT! Plus extra credit makes getting a good grade a lil easier (just make sure that u go). Only thing is that he's too busy to really help if u need someting outside of the classroom.
I enjoyed the topics that were covered in the class, but why the heck was attendance mandatory. I guess I would recommend this professor. I just wondered why I had to come to class to see him read powerpoint, which I could have read on my own time and leisure.
Dr. Alkebulan is pretty cool. Basic lecture class with powerpoint. 4 quizzes, a midterm, and final. Read the chapters (which are short) and follow the study guide and you will be fine. Offers extra credit. DO IT. It will help you in the end.
Would not recommend him unless you want to learn black history from a book written by white authors. Very boring and dry. Worst AFR class@SDSU I have taken. But then again, if you need an easy class with an **** teacher...
Tests are based more on powerpoints than reading the book. Attend class if you want extra credit. Gives study guides that only help a little...so just PAY ATTENTION in class.
He was not helpful what so ever, I did a lot of the extra-credit, and then he told me that it was null. Due to the fact that I did not attend enough class, which is bull. You have to sign in everyday and the classes are boring. Do not take him if you dont have to.
It was a good class but the tests never seemed to be on anything I remember learning because I would study off the study guide and still do horrible
Dr. A is a nice man, but this class is a lot harder than it has to be. I would study weeks in advance and get a C on the test. Toward the end of the semester, I got d's and f's on tests and I studied. I cant tell you what the tests are based on b/c the tests are so specific and you pretty much have the know the chapters by heart.
Uses powerpoint for lectures and lectures entire class period. Read about a chapter a week. Gives 4 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Attendance is taken daily, so be sure to show up!
MAN MAN MAN....P***D ME OFF...TAKE THIS CLASS ONLY IF U GOT EXCELLENT MEMORIZATION SKILLS...THAT INCLUDES DATES, NAMES AND EVENTS...CLASS IS BORIN AND ATTENDACE IS MANDATORY...WOULDNT RECOMMEND AT ALL!!
Now uses clickers. Attendance is mandatory. Make sure you read the chapters before class to do well on clicker questions. I'm not sure how useful the study guides are versus you own notes. Take notes and highlight key points that he talks about and read the chapters
Maybe its just me, but I thought this class was as easy as it gets...? Yes you need to be there, but the clicker questions he gives you in class are the same EXACT questions he puts on his tests, how does it get easier than that? I got an A in the class with MINIMAL, if any, studying. Nice, fair guy in my opinion.
Nice guy, boring class. Pretty predictable. Easy if you stay on top of the subjects. He is a nice guy, but pretty bland when it comes to teaching.
I hated this class! i went to to all but one class and i barely got a C-....only because i did a lot of extra credit. Pay close attention to the lectures and read! Attendance is mandatory and don't forget to bring your clicker because there are quizzes every class. i would not recommend this class at all!!
He tries to screw u to make his class harder than it is. If the clickers arent working, u lose points. If ur cell phone rings, u lose points. He thinks all ur questions are a personal attack on him. He made a handicapped girl leave class cuz her phone went off. U lose 20-30pts. if miss the class b4 thanksgiving. Take another professor if you can!!!
I only went on this site to WARN ppl who may take this guy. He made a handicapped girl leave class cuz he phone went off. He made a girl who had a tumor removed make up her test the next day and took away points for her absence. He gave a test on Ch. 10 and asked questions from Ch.11. He just likes to screw you to make an easy class hard!!!!!!!!!!!
I think he is a fairly easy teacher. He does overreact about the cell phones, but other than that it's okay. also you do have to do the readings & show up cause it's really easy to lose points & u will fail. there are 4 quizzes, a midterm, and a final.
He really wants you to pass! He gives so much extra credit its unbelievable! My grade raised 2 grade levels because of that. Also, you have to use the clicker to answer questions for points every class. So don't forget to READ BEFORE CLASS! The points add up fast! The only thing I didn't like was that he put questions from chp 11 into a chp 10 quiz
This Professor sucks! Attendance is mandatory for the students, but not for him. He has missed at least 7 classes this year, but takes points away if we don't do work on blackboard on the days he misses. His tests are totally ridiculous. He doesn't explain until people complain about grades. Don't take him.. This is from an "A" student. He's a jerk
this class wouldnt be that bad if it werent for the teacher!! what was sdsu thinking by puting this evil, inconsiderate, uncaring man on sdsu faculty? This teacher does not want his students to succeed at all. he puts questions on the test that werent in the book, he didnt review, or teach well at all! STAY AWAY DO NOT TAKE! WORST TEACHER AT STATE!
I received an A in the class but that was with reading the correct chapters and going to most of the lectures. He gives away many opportunities for extra credit but don't wait until the last minute. His clicker questions are difficult if you don't read the chapters so read!! Clicker questions same as the quiz questions.
One of the best professors San Diego State has to offer. This course offers so much information. Of course if takes work, but he provides more than enough extra credit for you to recieve the grade you want. Be Prepared to learn and have fun. Good Luck. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Ah is one of the only professors I have had on campus that truly cared about me as a student and as a person. He is a great guy, once you break the ice. Attendance is mandatory! You must also listen and take good notes in lectures. he gives ample opportunities for extra credit. Those who don't do well, didn't study and didn't go to class.
You need to read the book for this class. The clicker questions are kind of hard, but theres alot of extra credit in the end. On blackboard it said I had a B- but I ended up with an A.
I absolutely loved this professoer!! He is very stern in demanding, but if you just follow his rules you will do great. Clickers are kind of hard if you dont read. I didnt read and got a D in my clicker but still passed the class with an A. Do the study guides and write down all clicker questions and you will do fine.
If you want an easy class to wipe out your American Institution GE requirement, then I highly recommend Dr. Alkebulan. Reading the book is the number one key to passing this class; it also will help you a lot on clicker questions. I thought it was very interesting and I learned a lot. Overall, I enjoyed it. (:
He managed to take an interesting subject and turn it into 50 minutes of hell. People like him because you can get an A if you do all the e.c. but he's such a jerk. I got an A in his class.. twice and I STILL hated his teachin. He doesn't care about you. Screw "Breaking the Ice". He's a teacher... you shouldn't have to kiss his ass. STAY AWAY!
horrible. horrible. he is such a harsh grader. i worked so hard in this class only to receive mediocre grades. if you even question him with his information he takes it as a personal attack. i am part african and i could even tell his biased view on the world. i am very interested in african civilization but his class was structured very poorly.
Easy Class!!! YOU MUST READ THE TEXTBOOK! No Class on Friday's just online assignments which require you to read the text book. Interesting class
Easy class if you go to all the extra credit opportunities and classes. Attendance is Mandatory. Read the book and clicker questions will be easy. Not a big fan of the teacher tho.
You have to go to the classes for the clicker questions, and make sure you do the EC whenever you can. I thought I was getting a D, did one EC, and somehow ended up with a C+. I think he gave more points out than he said on the syllabus and divides it by 500 regardless. Easy class, write down the clicker questions, they are the test usually.
I have read some on the comments and to me the only way you can even come close to getting a grade lower then a C is if you do nothing at all. yes you must read the textbook however i did not study at all for the 1st test and got a A. the clicker questions from class are the questions on the test. This is as easy as easy could get.
This class is pretty easy. Write down the clicker questions because those are half of the test! Read the sections in the book that are covered in the online assignments, it's pretty clear. And usually no class on fridays. Easy A honestly
must go to class b/c of clicker question points. *if u get the questions wrong u get less points. must read book. online assignments instead of friday classes, usually have 3hr period of time to do them friday mornings.hes pretty strict and his lectures are boring. the questions for the test are kind of in depth too. I DONT REALLY RECOMMEND HIM..=/
This is a TERRIBLE Professor, if you disagree with him he picks on you all semester,he is NOT fair in his grading,I had to file a grievance against him to get the grade that I earned. He know very little in his area of study. This guy is a joke. This class is boring,as exciting as watching paint dry. What he lectre on is not on the midterm or final.
SImply put, its exactly what you'd expect from a class like this. Not too easy, not too hard. Its just a normal class history style class.
Reading the textbook is a must! Clicker questions (which you'll get points for) will be a lot easier if you read. Not really a hard class but not really easy. Professor seems cool and is definitely an expert on the subject.
Pretty great teacher. Read the chapters they will help you greatly on the tests. Write down all clicker questions because that is half the test. He offers lots of extra credit. Put in the reading time, go to class and its an easy A.
He is a well educated professor! If you fail his class then you obviously didnt try. Some of my friends failed every single one of his quizes and still managed to get a "C" JUst write the papers and show up you will do fine! I think he is brilliant. Just mis-understood at times.
Not as hard as I was expecting, lectures are interesting but weekly "assignment" and daily clicker points were kind of a drag. Reading both textbooks is a must, also writing down the clicker questions since his tests are 2/3rds clicker qs. Also, many opportunities for extra credit. Take this class! You'll learn a lot.
At first its kinda difficult to get it together in his class, he graded everything really late but that was due to him teaching at grossmont and sdsu. But if you get to know him and DONT LET YOUR PHONE GO OFF IN CLASS he will like you. Plus he offers a butt load of extra credit, thats the only reason why i got an A in the class
I liked this guy a lot. I've had him and Merrit and much preferred Alkebulan. If you go to lecture and read the book there's no way you can't get an A. He gives a ton of extra credit too, enough to boost you from a low B up to an A. Good lecturer, make sure you read and you'll be set.
Exams/quiz answers are extremely opinionated and attendance is mandatory. Adisa is not a particularly helpful professor and at times will come off as a very condescending individual. He does, however, give out a lot of extra credit opportunities. Take at own risk.
He literally talks as if reciting from a textbook. Powerpoint slides have a novel written on them and you don't have a lot of time to write stuff down. Clicker questions VERY specific. Hate this class with a passion. Super boring and lectures are hard to hear because he doesn't use a microphone.
Alkebulan is ridiculously disorganized and opinionated. Attendance is mandatory considering a clicker is needed. Quiz questions are unclear and contradict the textbook. He had a habit of missing class and not notifying anyone. Would not recommend him.
He is extremely bad at taking constructive critisism because he is so blinded by his pride. He assumes that his students are dumb and that bad grades are in no fault his. He sent an extremely nasty email out to the entire class after the semester ended. The class was sometimes interesting, but he is not a nice man. He is very opinionated
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I received As & a few Bs however I received a low C on the final due to the inconsistent format and difficulty of questions. He insists the questions were fair but many pulled from minor details in the reading. I had questions while taking the final re the ambiguous nature of the questions but he wasn't even there!Awful prof
Many see him as rude and intensely unfair to his students and I unfortunately agree. He missed about 6 lectures and also didn't give us notification an entire week of class that he wasn't going to show up.
This is my first review. I never usually review professors but man just honestly, listen to all these people who have commented before me. I dont know what else to say. I am overall displeased about the class. The final was mediocre. His quizzes were tricky. Just stop and turn away from taking him. Please. Save yourself the trouble.
Took online and and made the class way harder then what it was 1 hour and 15 min to do a 100 question midterm. Dont take over summer!!
This class was seriously easy. His study guides are exactly what's on the test. The only way you can't get a good grade is if you don't read. He even gives a lot of extra credit and he gives out more points then he says. Overall an awesome class.
Worst teacher ever! I took AFRAS170B online and got an A- because of her grading scale. An A is 95% and up. She didn't have any lecture videos or online sessions so you have to read the book and understand it on your own. Her tests were extremely difficult...
This is my first time rating a professor because I felt like I needed to let you all know that this course is not easy. The grading scale is preposterous. Usually A- is 90-93% right? But for this professor, your grade needs to be 95% in order to achieve a solid A. That's really high. Don't take this class if you want an A. smh.
Took his online class this summer and thought I was the only one failing but after an email I sent out asking for a study buddy I realized everyone was not doing that great. Not helpful whatsoever and extremely rude. Dont take this intro class online because it is one of the hardest classes you'll take especially with this teacher. He's rude.
AFRAS 170B was a VERY interesting class. Professor A is clearly passionate about the topic. Definitely read the textbook so you can get the Clicker questions correct (they are HUGE for grades - 2 points for getting it right, 1 point for getting it wrong/attendance). Study for midterm, quizzes, and final, because they are a little challenging.
This class is very informative and very easy if you keep up with the lectures. I learned so much in this class and it honestly changed my life. I've taken 2 of his classes; Afras 170A and Afras 170B. I got A's in both classes. Definitely doable if you pay attention and take notes.
It's an interesting class, but there is a lot of work and the lecture format isn't great.
Prof A knows the material well and is passionate about his teaching. Make sure to read the textbooks to get the clicker Qs right. To take good notes to prepare for quizzes and exams, focus more on what Prof A is saying and not the short bullet points on the powerpoints.
So much reading, and random assignments given with the reading that are normally no less than 500 words. Very unorganized, doesn't give a clear description on what he wants for assignments. Grades at the very last week of class, extra credit doesn't even count so don't do it.
He does a pretty good job of keeping the class interesting. I really enjoyed this class because he taught it so well. I definitely recommend taking this class with him.
All he does is lecture, fails students for not showing up. If you do the extra credit he will choose to see if he wants to give you points
Grade relies entirely on attending every lecture for clicker questions and reading the textbook thoroughly to answer the clicker questions, reading quizzes on the textbook every week but if you're prepared for that and to take really good notes then the class is a guaranteed A
Really good class. Learned so much and he is very passionate about the subject. You can earn a really good grade if you really study and pay attention to his lectures.
I took this class to knock out a GE credit. He makes it way more difficult than it needs to be, his lectures are interesting and participation oriented using clickers. Hes very rude though and isnt a fair Professor. I would avoid taking him especially if ur just trying to get an easy credit.
one of the best professors at state. He really cares about hte students if you take the time to get to know him. Don't take the class if your aren't interested in finding out how horrible the us gov. is:)
Avoid at all costs! He is a very difficult grader and You have to really work hard for this GE course! DO NOT take him!!!
He changed grades last minute. The whole class was passing after the final and over 75% of the class was failing his class after Memorial Day weekend. He emailed us saying he will drop grades for attendance and after many of us noticed the drop and emailed him we suddenly cannot see our grade's anymore. Really shady
worst prof @sdsu. Super unorganized, clicker questions every class that are misleading & hard & every single question counts toward your grade so you have to get it right. he was bad at responding to emails, clicker points were unfair because clickers weren't working properly but he still counted them. Boring & straight up not prof material.
He made me feel like he sets his students up to fail, our class average grade was 58%. He also didn't give our class office hours to talk to him about our grades. He also was very rude when answering my questions and made me feel stupid. Would NOT recommend this profesor.
Throughout the semester, he was increasingly unhelpful and unavailable. He offered us no office hours, didn't respond to emails and set us up for failure. He told us the percentage we earned didn't determine our grade and that he would decide the grade he thought we deserved. This didn't happen. Well over half the class ended up failing.
Alkebulan is good professor and he is one of the best professors at SDSU. There is no much assignments only mid tern and finals. easy A. I am taking another class with him in the spring. and I would recommend every one to take his class you will learn a lot. he knows what he teaches and he is available for questions and office hours. he's helpful
One of the most garbage professors I have ever taken. He is completely unaccommodating and unreasonable and will ultimately bring down your GPA. He needs to leave Stockton and go back to his school in California.
This class is graded by 4 quizzes, 1 mid-term exam, 1 final exam, and 1 written assignment. Great Professor !
Assigns a ton of reading and writing. The amount of time that needs to be dedicated to just this one class is enough to equal a full course load. I don't know if its because its online, that means that so much work has to be assigned, but the amount is outright ridiculous.
An extremely unfair grader. He requires an unnecessary number of citations on short papers, and is clearly grading based on whether or not students use the "correct" opinion in their material. This professor is unfairly killing my GPA. Avoid at all costs.
The material is great, you'll learn a lot. He is very responsive to emails. His grading is clear, and a bit tough. Grammar/Spelling/Style is as important as content. There are few assignments but the reading is solid, so keep up. Don't let the others scare you; if you don't do the work you won't pass. Isn't that obvious? He's a great professor!
I took this class over the summer and never even saw his face or heard his voice. He is the so-called president of african studies or some bogus title, but doesnt even care enough to give lectures to an introductory African American studies class. He didnt let us see our past quizzes and failed me on our only paper. Guy sucks dont take him
Professor Adisa's class was the first time I'd experience a college course - I was a junior in HS. This review is 3 years later, looking back retrospectively. Lot's of quizzes... once per week if I recall. If you want a good grade in the class you can't fail more than one. Very heavy of textbook, take good notes. Good teacher, bit of a workload.
I had him for AFRAS 170B online during summer and he was great! This class is graded by 4 discussions, 12 EASY quizzes, multiple choice midterm, multiple choice final, and text assignment. He does ask for 4 in text citations for the discussions and if you don't do them then you won't do good on the discussions. READ THE RUBRIC! :)
Professor A is not a bad professor overall. His readings are not bland and the assignments that he gives are pretty straight forward. While there is a clear message that he would want in the responses, they are still manageable course-load. Overall despite the contrary, he really seemed to have improved his communication with students and not bad.
Very hard grader
Overall after taking his class, I realized that some of the ratings here about him are inaccurate. His grading and the assignments were not the most difficult thing in the world as long as one can keep up with it. The pacing of the class itself was not problematic and I certainly was able to take away the most important lessons from my time.
The class is easy enough to get through even with the immense amount of reading and writing. The big problem is that this professor requires so much accuracy with the coursework without providing adequate rubric guidelines for his students and you will get penalized heavily even if the requirements are not clearly outlined.
This is my first professor rating and was supposed to be one of my last classes taken prior to graduating SDSU, but I dropped the course after the first discussion board. Extremely biased teacher and material. If you have a differing opinion than him or anyone in the course, your grade will suffer. Do not take this professor if you have opinions.
Professor Adisa A. Alkebulan is a rigorous instructor who expects much from his students. He grades strictly and assigns low marks if instructions are not followed precisely. However, he is a fair professor. Meeting his expectations, completing assignments, and submitting them on time will ensure success.
This is a class where you actually have to do the work in order to get good grades. If you are one of those students who just want to pass, then you are not a good candidate for this class. I rather come out of a class with some knowledge rather than just passing and Professor Alkebulan provides all the tools to improve academically. Thank you
Dr. Alkebulan is not a professor you want to take if possible. He is harsh, doesn't care about his students, and a very tough grader. He is not understanding and his assignments are all very confusing. He even switched the syllabus half way through the class. I would strongly advise not to take this professor.
This is the worst professor at SDSU. He DOES NOT respond to his students. He will not respond to your emails, he will not answer questions, and he does not care about you. This is not a class you want to take.
This professor is an absolute GPA killer! Assigns a crazy amount of text to read (100-200 pages a week) and offers little help through email. Assignments aren't clear, and feedback is a joke, often being a quick copy-paste note rather than real feedback. Perhaps he's better in person, but for online classes, STAY AWAY. Seems like a chill dude tho!
Extremely subjective grader with little to no comments on justification for the grade. If he does leave you a comment, it is typically a pre written comment that essentially does not apply. It is unfortunate that he teaches this class because it could be so much better. If you email him and ask for clarification on a grade, he will just ignore you.
Dr. Adisa Alkebulan's class was fairly easy. He uses lockdown browsers for each quiz/exam but gives you the appropriate time. Materials for the class are easy to read. He is definitely hard to get a hold of during summer courses at the least. I had to email him 3 times for him to answer. Study materials all on quilt
Not even done with the semester but do NOT take him. Homework assignments are on packback and arent even clear, got. 50/100 for following all directions. He is a very tough grader and assignments are basically mini essays where you have to site up to 4 readings from class. Readings are very long too. Do not take him
I'm taking this class right now I'm not even finish with the semester. The professor never responds emails and never make clear the assignments. I get it why most people give him a 1
This professor is terrible. He just recently started at Stockton. He doesn't know how to use our blackboard, doens't respond to students. You can follow the rubric clearly but he seems to pick and choose his grades. several readings and impossible standards for discussion posts.Overall wouldn't take this class again.
The professor has high expectations, but the material is engaging if you put in the work. Lecture slides and unstuckstudy were crucial for keeping up with the heavy reading load. Grading can be tough, so stay on top of assignments.
I give the professor a bad rating just cause we had so many assignments that had unclear directions and would not respond to his emails. However, the TA was very respectful and always gave good feedback on my papers.
Lots of reading, no clear directions, and an external tool required, lots of writing. He does not provide any feedback on work. The weekly "discussions" are basically weekly essays you'll need to turn in. There is 2 "final" projects one that is given mid class the other towards end that must be 14+ pages. Save this class for last.
In my opinion, Professor Alkebulan makes his class way more complicated and difficult then it needs to be. The iclickers are extremely annoying, more than half of the class answers the questions wrong... He uses a lockdown browser for all quizzes and tests. I have never had to download or sign up for so many outside applications for a class...
Prof. Alkebulan makes this class WAY more complicated and difficult then it needs to be. I've never downloaded so many outside applications for a class... such as iclickers (more than half the class gets his "questions" wrong), lockdown browsers (on all quizzes and tests), and packback (for homework). All of it is tedious, frustrating, and annoying
This GE class is workload-heavy. Lectures are 2 hours and 40 minutes of reading off PowerPoints. Grades rely on clicker questions (1 point for answering the question, 1 point for correctness), but most students get them wrong. Weekly online discussions are basically essays and are autograded based on "curiosity" points on PackBack.
This is my first time writing a rate my professor review, and never thought I would until now. There are important modules we need to complete that are a chunk of our grade. As the time of this writing, this is the second time he has not posted one of these important assignments on Canvas, and result in 10% drop in grade for each missed.
I think the negative reviews are a bit unfair. I received clear replies to emails within a day or two. The reading and writing load each week is on the heavy side, but it's manageable if you stay on top of it. Grades took a while to come back, but the grading was fair if you followed directions. Those who took shortcuts struggled.
Adisa is the WORST! If you skip class, you simply will not pass. He uses iClicker for lecture which are 3 hours long and graded on accuracy. Even if the whole class gets it wrong he doesn't care. There are online quizzes and a final + weekly packbacks that require so many words. Overall, bad professor, extremely boring lectures, DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!!
DON'T TAKE. Dr. Alkebulan does not care about his students, and his assignments never has clear instructions. He won't respond to his emails, and responds condescendingly when students ask questions in class. He uses iClicker, mandatory for each class, graded by accuracy not participation. This course should be an easy A, but he makes it hard.
His class are literally the full 2 hours and 40 minutes long and he just talks the whole time.Must attend class because he uses Iclicker and you must get answer right to get points. His tests and exams are online but they are with a lockdown browser so if you have an Ipad you will not be able to take them.Overall DO NOT recommend this professor!!!!
You do not hear from him much at all. The weekly discussions are graded so weirdly. the 2 documentry analysis and 2 projects even if you do exactly what is required you can still get a mid grade. Uses payback which you have to pay for if you do not have DAY1READY but is still considered a no cost class.
Professor Alkebulan and his TA for the semester, Seb, were so kind! I had a rough semester and needed some help, and they were both so amazing. I learned so much from this course, and the format of the course (POL380) was not that difficult. I'm not sure how the in-person classes are, but I would recommend taking the online course :)
I finished this class with an A+. The reviews make Dr. A seem scary, but he's really understanding + kind. If you're pre-law and want to go to law school, this class reflects law school expectations. High standards, LOTS of dense reading and writing. If you can't handle this class, I'd re-evaluate law school. You can't pass w/o doing the reading.
