He believes that humiliation is the key to motivation.
I highly recommend him.

goofy, but the class is good
Never reviewed homework or tests. When asked to review, often condenscending. Has totally forgottn that the students have not taught Stats for 23 years....we do not automatically understand it the first time. The worst..........
great instructor, goes out of his way to help students that ask for help
Do not take him. This teacher is useless. He tells everyone in the class to drop it the first day, humiliates people in the class, and acts like all of us want to be math majors. Take Ben-assouz, he is much better.
He is not helpful, rude, and in general a hateful person.
I enjoyed his class, his jokes are corny but funny. He tells you the truth if you want to know if you are going to pass his class, all around great guy!

Mr. Harris was a fair and stern professor. If you do not do hour homework and keep up w/ the class, you will regret it. He is very willing to answer questions & assist you, just ask him.
Helpful if you ask, but class time drags. Has a habit of heavilly weighting the material covered class prior to the test. Tests always follow lecture & labs on same night. Assigned large labs prior to two exams leaving little time to study. Not great at explaining, mainly focuses on formulas.
Would not help you if you need help, and would be very sarcastic if you ask questions! Dont take!
Dont ask questions, because he'll just embarrass you. He gives these Sample Assignment Problems (SAP's) that help a lot with the tests! If you do those problems the tests are acutally pretty easy.
Harris's class was very regimented, but overall he is quite fair and has a great explanatory teaching style. If you don't do the homework you'll be lost, but if you do, you'll find the tests to be a fair representation of what is covered in the course.
He claims he doesn't have time to answer questions. He makes you look like an idiot if you do. Don't take!

If you show up to class, pay attention, and do the work he suggests to do outside of class(which is not hard or time consuming) you can do very well in his classes. He uses plain English during his lectures, which is very helpful. A good time to ask questions is outside of class or during a break if you have them.
Mr. Harris is a stickler for students knowing what they are required to know. A bit insensitive when it comes to answering questions in class, but he won my respect. Very nice guy after passing his course.
Mr. Harris does a very good job of breaking details down and showing all of the steps to each problem. For someone who has always done poorly in math, I did a great job because he is a great teacher.
Best professor for upper-level math. He is god at explaining the material. I got a B.
If you want to pass take him as your instructor. He is funny. I like him a lot. I would take him again.
Hard class, but Mr. Harris works hard to make sure we succeeded. Do the homework and use the supplemental information he gives you and you will do fine!
Harris is the talk all class period type. So if you dont like listening, then dont take him. But he really spells things out well and helps out if you need it. He WILL keep you until the end of class everyday, except for tests. He breaks down systems really well, so if you need the step by step help, he's great.
Greatest professor at SCC and the best at math with 25 yrs teaching experience. Had it not been for Mr. Harris, I would never have passed Math. I went from being a D student to a "B" student and have finally earned my bachelors degree because of Mr. Harris. I would not take anyone else for Math. He really cares. Hope he become dept chair at SCC.
Just show up to class and do the work it is that easy. If you need extra help just ask he'll be there for you. PS just laugh at the stuid jokes he thinks he's funny!
Mr. Harris is not for everyone. He gets off topic very easily and starts talking about the craziest stuff sometimes. This really annoyed me but every once in a while he will make you laugh. He does give some pop quizes and a little homework. Tests are not that hard and if you study, it's an easy A.
Very great guy. Very helpful. Stats is really hard don't think I would have passed anyone elses class. Just do the homework and go to the office hours and you should do nicely.
Nice and really funny/crazy guy. He gets to know the class. I would recomend him for 116 because the class is just hard in general and hes a good teacher.
DON'T FOR THIS CLASS: DON'T ask stupid questions, don't ask smart questions, don't attract attention to yourself, don't come to class late. He WILL REAM you a new one. However, he is good at what he does and he's crystal clear. I plan on taking him for 116. He's eccentric and gruff but is helpful after class. AFTER class.
I am very good at math and I know a good math teacher when I see one. Mr. Harris is not one of them!! If you are able to take another teacher at all, pick them over Mr. Harris! He doesn't explain much, just works through examples and then expects you to know what you're doing.
Worth scheduling.
Mr Harris is the best Math teacher at SCC in my opinion along with Susan Harris (no relation). He's one of the few who can successfully teach older folks math who did not learn it well in middle/high sch. Because of him, I finally earned my B.S. and am in the process of testing for my CPA. He's been teaching math for nearly 30 years. Take him!
Very slow monotone talker with frequent jokes that he enjoys. Does not take well to students asking questions as he explains, in fact, it seems to throw him off.
I've had him for MAT 131 and 132. He is by far the most crystal clear Math teacher I've met. He will explain at least once step by step. However don't ask stupid questions and when he says do the homework, do the homework, even though it won't be graded. Another note is he can be sort of monotone however he can be funny as well. ;)
Good teacher. Explains examples well. Very helpful outside of class. Seems genuinely interested in student's success. A little "kooky" and often funny.
This teacher is very monotone and seems to want class participation but whenever he does get any that person is ridiculed unless they were right. He is very demeaning to you if you have a question. Do not recommend, I worked very hard for that A.
Very monotone and hard to follow. Doesnt like when students ask questions. If you want a teacher who interacts with you and explains things to you he is not the one.
Mr. Harris is very helpful but a bit hard to deal with for some. Ask a question that he thinks is a bit stupid and expect his wrath. Ask a question that he likes and you will get a detailed in depth answer. I liked him.
Mr. Harris is a good teacher, but don't ask questions in class, he will typically make you feel stupid for asking. He is very generous on tests and quizes though. Typically if you put something down, even if it is wrong, he will still give you partial credit for it. He's a little quirky too. Oh and remember to always read your syllabus!
Has a strange sense of humor. Tends to yell when he is trying to be funny. Seems intimidating in the classroom, but very easy to talk to and willing to help in a personal setting.
Wish I would have followed my gut and dropped the first day. He reads directly from the text with it on the overhead... He will not take homework questions. Although He did have time to discuss the grammy's and his interest in x-rated movies... I'm going to file some formal complaints about his inability to teach. DO NOT TAKE MR. HARRIS!!!!!!!
I would not recommend him to anyone. He is arrogent and teaches directly from the textbook. Also if you are to ask him a question during class he will make you feel stupid and as if you should have alreayd learned the answer in previous courses. Although I have often found myself to be good at math, I now find myself struggling to simply pass.
LOVES to hear himself talk and VERY arrogant. Teaches by way of fear and intimidation. Doesn't mind questions but be prepared to answer questions yourself. If you don't know he WILL make you look stupid. I got to the point where I quit asking for that reason. He does give partial credit which is very nice. Very insecure man for some reason.
Something wrong with this man, he likes to yell at students. Seems like he wishes he didn't have to be there and takes it out on students...retire then! Creates a hostile environment not suited for learning. If you ask a question he will belittle you if you don't understand it...that's why I ask questions because I don't understand-DUH!
STAY AWAY!! ...unless you don't mind teaching yourself... EVERYTHING. No point in attending class, reads straight out of the book. I honestly never thought a person could be soo monotoned until I had this man. Can't stand his teaching methods! And, he yells. He's smart, but is a horrrriibbllee teacher!!
Don't be intimidated by Mr. Harris - he may come across as rude but really he's just trying to keep the class moving. If you ask him questions at break or after class, he is very VERY helpful. He definitely thinks he's funnier than he really is. At first, I didn't like him, but by the end of the quarter, he'd really grown on me. I'd take him again.
Mr. Harris is an excellent Professor and will spent one on one time with you if needed. If you our willing to learn, he is willing to teach you. He spends all class time wisely(2010).
i had a disabilitity and he worked wsith me and cleared all my question of course rememeber this is a high course you should be ready to do the work yourself so if your not prepared by doing the homework don't blame him you have to put effott into it too thanks mr. harris
Excessively loud, off-task. Tries to be fair in grading tests, though. I'm not taking him again. This man grates on my last nerve.
Mr. Harris is helpful and wants to see his students succeed.
I didn't like the way he taught. There were people in my class who really liked him. I won't be taking him again because I had a hard time learning from him. He doesn't explain things as clearly as I would like. He is an extremely fair grader and will try to help you.
Would not recommend taking unless you do not mind teaching yourself
Mr. Harriscan be very intimidating until you get used to his ways. Gives a quiz at the beginning of each class. Truly wants you to succeed and will help if you ask for help. If he sees you are really trying he will do whatever he can to help. Study groups impress him try it earns points with him.Awesome teacher.
He sucks, he Hates his job, he does not teach you & he speaks like Ben Stien, the clear eyes guy.
I have just started taking this course. I have no interest in math the class is required. So far I am pleased with the multiple choice tests. Professor is very harsh toward people and very unpersonable thus far. Seems to get caught up in asking questions to get students involved but comes across as very rude if we answer questions. We shall see.
Mr. Harris was intimidating the first week or so but he lightened up afterwards. All he does in class is solve problems from the textbook on the chalkboard, but he does well at teaching. He CAN be funny & he likes you if he sees you paying attention & if you laugh at his jokes. He is rarely on time so don't worry if you aren't the punctual type.
He is just awesome. I took trig class with him and I easly go A. just show up to class and do webassign homework and you will be just fine
He talks way more than he teaches and makes fun of you if you ask a question or don't understand something.
25% of grade was from quizzes which made up a total of 12-15 questions, with no makeups, my only complaint. He gives away a lot of easy points though, online hw with unlimited tries and a take home quiz where you calculate your grade, together that's an easy 20% Partial credit on exams was MORE than fair, which has been an issue w/ other profs.
He's very nerdy but great teacher. He's clear goes over problems over and over step by step. Boring if you already know everything but great if your learning it or refreshing your memory. Wish we had more teachers who taught and less that left it up to us to learn on our own. That's why we pay and show up.
Teaches very slow but is very effective teacher if you pay attention. Hard to pay attention as he goes at a slow pace and is very monotone but very clear.
I liked this man at the beginning because class was new and him causing a student to walk out of class almost every class for the first month was comical. But when a TEACHER continuosly tells you they will NOT help you understand, when they laugh at you, even tell the whole class i don't care if you fail....there is a major PROBLEM, +NOSTUDENTSURVEY
he was not clear on what we were going to do and he told two weeks ahead of time when our final was then after everyone has made plans to work or other plans he changed it to a completely other day.
Late to almost every class. Does not actually teach the material, just does a couple of problems from the textbook each period. It's an easy class, but don't expect to actually learn anything.
Dry as a class comes. teaches soooo slow, its stupid. It was actually frustrating at times. Do Webassign as you go! He makes a big deal out of needing the book, however you don't need it at all. He's rude when asking questions and will make you feel dumb. His test are hard and no study guide. My first C in a math class.
Mr Harris comes across as stern at first, but he's really just all down to business and makes effective use of his classroom time. His expectations are crystal clear and all of his coursework ties together well and will prepare you for his tests. Great instructor, tough material, but he's all business and gives you the tools to get it done.
He seems weird and pointless at first, but if you find the humor, the lectures aren't too bad. However, you must show up to each class - there are pop quizzes and if you haven't seen calc before, you may just not be able to catch up. That being said, prepare to do a little bit of work on your own - his examples on the board are easy unlike the test
Worst teacher I have ever had in my career or experience at school. He's extremely rude. Tells students that they are dumb, lazy, and offers no real help, or insults you while he's helping. Horrible teacher by all accounts, I dropped because I couldn't stand being there. By the middle of the semester he was yelling at us and belittling us.
This has been the worst teacher i have ever had, I have never take a Sinclair class until Adolph's class and I will not be coming back to save an extra buck. He is rude to his students and as we are taught in school how no question is a dumb one, well every question you ask he makes you feel dumb. He is very disrespectful. Do not take his class!!!!
Lectures are long and often unrelated to the subjects. He goes off on tangents quite a bit. Just pay attention to ONLY the math examples he gives on the board. And as a side note: he will tell you to get the book because you'll need it. You don't need it!
Mr. Harris is an interesting teacher. He is very good at teaching for people that take a long time to understand the math. However, if you are good at math avoid this class because he goes at an extremely slow pace; in a 2 hour class he would do on average 3 to 4 problems. Do the practice exams because his tests are exactly the same.
My favorite teacher by far. Note taking is imperative, as a lot of things on Mymathlab you'll never see in class or on tests. Anything you take down as notes, expect to see on the exams. Show up, as he does give quizzes that count. Explains in a very clear manner. You'll work for your grade, but he's the best math teacher I've ever taken.
He refuses to help anyone and criticizes those who have not had a math class in years. You better brush up on everything. I was told this was going to be a good math class since I haven't had one in 8 years and next thing I know he is showing Trig and Calc. I asked for assistance a few times during and after class, all he does is laugh at you.
WAY to slow and disrespectful, I have learned to dread math class. I used to love math.
He rambles and rambles. Probably goes through 5 problems the whole class period. He gives tests 80% weight of the grade which is completely ridiculous. He randomly shouts and is very loud for no reason. Do not recommend this guy to anyone. I had to take it cause I was late to sign up.
he has a bad attitude every time he comes in the classroom. But the work is ok, he just stay on one problem for 30 minutes
I thought he was a great teacher. Dry humor so if you don't understand it then you will be offended at every little thing. He will help if you need it. Just expect him to be kind of harsh about it. Grade. Is unclear of how webassign works. He just gives you it and expects done by the end of the semester so keep up on it.
Wastes a lot of time. Very boring and very disrespectful. If you ask a question, be prepared to be embarrassed. Treats students like they're stupid. Tests are easy, test study guides are sufficient to do well on the test. Summer course was multiple choice tests may differ for normal length course.
His teaching methods are.... Different. He's not the worst teacher I've had, and you could fell embarrassed to ask a question, but will make sure you understand. Test are multiple choice, and his practice test are very similar to the test. Study those, do the homework, and you'll be fine.
It took a while to get used to Harris' style. If you take offense easily, do not take his class! If you don't mind being the butt of a joke every once and a while, and have a good sense of humor, then you'll love his class. His lecture is indeed slow, he goes through every detail (this can be a positive for some). Tests are very manageable.
VERY slow teacher, takes over an hour to go over a single problem. Spends at least 30 mins every class talking about not wanting to waste time. Very rude, if students ask questions in class they are talked to like they are stupid. Tells students that the book is required to pass the class, students never use it in class (it is accessible online)
He uses dry humor so be prepared. He grades better than he sounds (If you know what I mean). Rough around the edges but I learned a lot and he was great.
