ONE OF THE COOLEST TEACHER'S I HAVE EVER HAD AT CHABOT. HE IS VERY HELPFUL AND STAYS AFTER CLASS TO PROVIDE MORE HELP. HIS TEST QUESTIONS COME FROM THE TEXT BOOK.
He's a great teacher and he really knows his stuff. He makes math easily understandable for everybody. I have 2 young children and I'm still getting an A. I strongly recommend him.
Mr. Oliver is very clear and will show you shortcuts. He is kind and has a good sense of humor. I find all math difficult, yet I got an "A" in this class. He is very helpful when you come to see him during his office hours and after class.
nice and excellent teacher, very patient and clear. good to learn your foundation from this man!
He is the best teacher I've ever had at Chabot. he was very easy to understand and was very friendly and likeable. He never made people feel dumb when they'd ask what would often turn out to be dumb questions. If you need to take a math class, you need to have Mr. Oliver!
He is the BEST! He explains everything to your understanding and is always willing to help after class or during his office hours. Make sure you do your homework and you will be okay on the exams.
Easy to understand...willing to help. Uses plain English to explain math...not math terms all the time.
Oliver wants students to succeed, & he offers creative opportunities to raise grades that avg. instructors may not consider. He lectures well, & exams are hmwk based covering only the sections he taught. He helps students in his other class sections, & he's very knowledgeable about career opportunities, if you have those questions.
Prof. Oliver is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I made sure I took him for both courses and I'm glad I did! He is very knowledgeable and helpful. He holds two Masters 1 from Stanford & 1 from CSU. He really is brilliant not only in his knowledge but also of his treatment of people. He makes himself available to those who need him.
I absolutely hate math only because I have a hard time understanding it. If youre like me..don't miss a class because he covers a lot in his lectures. He doesn't assign a whole lotta homework. Just a reasonable amount. I've known people who took his class more than once because he's that good and nice! He also whistles when he talks-or is just me?
I took both his classes because his way of teaching was not out of the book, it made me understand the use of math on a daily basis. All you need to do is keep up with the homework and show up to class, you'll easily pass!!
I took both his classes because his way of teaching was not out of the book, it made me understand the use of math on a daily basis. All you need to do is keep up with the homework and show up to class, you'll easily pass!!
Easy teacher, nice, understanding, but be careful to make sure you do your homework and study the last part carefully for the final. Went from A to a B because of the final.
Oliver is a great teacher. Do all your homework, including minitab, and you will get an A. All you have to do is make sure you can do the homework problems and the tests are easy. No surprises.
He is good with teaching Statistics. He also teaches Algebra, so he's good at drawing visual illustrations on the board. He explains sample problems and minitab assignments. He also has a good sense of humor and tries to relate to students. He doesn't think he's better than students like some other teachers might. It's a good class if you hate math
Don't take this class. HE failed most of the class for not understanding if you coming from a different teacher his style might confuse you. Who ever wrote he gives you a reasonable amount of homework must didn't take my class.
He is good teacher. He is very easy to pass. Just take notes and do homework and do good on test. You can cheat on test in many ways if u want. Dont leave the class after break or you will fail. Only those students failed the class that always leave early.
Mr. Oliver is a nice and dedicated teacher of his work and sticks to the book nothing more. Either you get or not.No matter how hard you try your points is what determine your grade. Theres no ifs, ands, buts are suppose. Matter of fact, if you have three tutors and the teacher sees the improvement of your scores that doesnt help nor count as point
Good luck
no math class is easy, no matter who the teacher is. however some teachers make the class more difficult. oliver is a great instructor. his finals and tests are not composed of difficult promblems, just easy or average promblems. great teacher and if you are a student that likes instructors explaining math, he's for you. attendence not mandatory!
I should start by saying I hate Math, I always have and I always will and that I am horrible in this subject. With this being said, I can truly recommend Mr. Oliver's class. He makes math easy to understand, and I got an A in his class. Attendance is very important, if you miss you'll fall behind. Take his class, you will learn a lot.
First let me tell you that I'm pretty good at math. Still I think Mr. Oliver is a good teacher. He is very straightforward and lets you use a handout on the test. Some people were failing but I think they probably didn't study or do the homework.
his favorite word "real problems has real solutions" yeah good teacher.. got C.. whatever.. i hate math!
Had him way back in the day for Geography and Statistics. I see that I am not alone in thinking he's great. One of the best teachers I've ever had. Go Mr. Oliver!
tests are on 14 sections at a time.too many sections to remember on test.25 questions on test. class goes to fast to learn.
First of all he is a sweetheart. Second of all he is probably the best math teacher I've ever had. Very organized guy! Third of all anyone talking smack is either bad at math or lazy! Just go to every class, study, do the homework, and dont take it during the summer if your working fulltime. Great Teacher!!! :0)
If i went to class I would have passed it.. but my friend drag me along.. NOT COOL!! His class gets boring tho after awhile. I cant concentrate in his class very well because it's at night.
pretty hard teacher.... and boring...... everytime i look around i see people sleeping.
Great teacher. But o so boring. I had to beat myself in the head to stay awake. I snore very loudly so I was a bit nervous in his class. one to many winks and I would've made the class rumble. any who, do and understand the homework and you will pass. exams are right out of the text book. good luck
Best teacher by far. There are 4 tests[test#1 chap 1-3, test#2 chap 4-5, test#3 6-7 test#4 8-10. He picks questions straight from the book/hw so as long as you do it and most importantly UNDER STAND IT you will do fine. Would recommend his class to anyone!
Mr. oliver's test are hard and confusing. He mixes up the problems from the chapters and sections so we wont memorize the formulas and equations during the test. And he assigns the entire book for homework which is chapters 1-12. Also his class goes way too fast and he doesnt like stopping to answers questions, he always says stay after class.
not a great teacher. boring, made me fall asleep. tests are hard.
Great teacher! I've had him tw osemesters in a row and he's been great. He's pretty cool when it comes to attendance so as long as you turn in the HW and take the tests you'll be fine. The class is well-structured and he's helpful if you ever have questions.
He is the BEST! I loved his class. I like math and I'm good at it, but I've taken Math with ither teachers that had me lost, NOT Mr. Oliver. he is awesome at explaining the work in a way that makes sence. He teaches right out of the book. I took him for Math65 and I'm taking him again for Math55.
Mr. Oliver is great! I had him for 65 as well as 55. He was always really understanding if I had to miss class because of work and he would do his best to acommodate by schedule. He answers emails within 2 days and is clear if you have any questions. He talks kinda quiet which made me want to go to sleep sometimes but all in all he's awesome!
Great teacher!! I took him in the summer and it was hard. Every night you are given 2 to 3 sections. If you work full time like I do, you won't have time for anything else. We started with 40 students and ended with 15. He is clear as a teacher and is very helpful. His tests are challenging. If you can take him in a regular semester.
Mr. Oliver wants you to succeed and he's willing to help you. If you miss a day, call & get HW, but attendance doesn't count. Some test ?s come out of the HW or ?s worked on board. Grade breakdown: Comprehensive final: 40%, Tests: 40% (there are 3, lowest score is dropped & remaining two are averaged), HW: 20%. HW is only due the day of the test.
This is alot of work, but if you stick everynight to doing your hw, going to tutoring and showing up to class(even though attendance doesn't count for grading)It makes a difference because there's ALOT to cover, so you miss one day try catching up, it will affect you. He's lectures are clear,he's tests won't be so hard, study, he's very helpful too
Attendance is not mandatory yet you DONT want to miss class because he gives CLEAR lectures and notes. Gives a lot of hw, but if you do them in a time mannerly fashion, you should be fine. If you want to learn math without any problems and DONT want to deal with a teacher that leaves you hanging, then Oliver is DEFINITELY the teacher you want!
This teacher is great! I had to take Math 65 for the second time because the teacher that I took before did not teach it well. Mr. Oliver explains everything and is always willing to help. Tests are easy (only up to 25 questions) and he lets you use calculators! I would recommend him to anyone who is struggling with math.
Patient, funny, I hate math and he made it better for me to learn. SO much HW, drops the lowest quiz, so grades based on HW, Tests, and Final. Good luck!
Excellent teacher! He is very clear and easy to understand. I've taken many algebra classes before this one; passing each with B's and C's. I am currently halfway through Mr. Oliver's class and I aced two of the exams. (Looks like I will pass with flying colors!) Please take his class, you will NOT regret it. But ... just make sure that you study.
Math 55 BEST MATH TEACHER EVER! The class is very structured so you know what exactly is expected out of you. He takes questions from the homework for the tests. Best of all the test questions he picks aren't the the crazy hard ones, they will be the type of questions that make up the bolk of the section. He is not trying to trick you he just wa
Mr. Oliver was a thourough teacher, for people who dont like math like me this is the teacher! Ive taken math 55 before with another teacher and he is so much better! He drops your lowest grade of a test. Math is tough so you just need to stay on top of the game
Oliver is THE best of THE BEST teachers ever!!!!!! I took him for stats and I got an A in class, I had 35 students in class and non draped class, all students pass his class, he is so easy to understand and super helpful. I personally hate math Mr Oliver change my opinion on that! All I can say if u want to pass math take it with Oliver while he is teaching !!!!!!!!!!
Oliver is a super nice and helpful professor. Test is similar to homework. Take his class will get an A.
Mr. Oliver is a great teacher! He is funny and very clear in his lecture. He does problems in the book, goes over the minitab, and doesn't give much hw. Maybe 5-20 questions per class. His 2 tests and final are very straightforward, and are surprisingly short (8-10 questions). Do the hw and give some effort and you can get an A easy. I recommend!
Excellent teacher! Helpful, polite, and at times humorously amusing. He takes the exam questions from the book and gives partial credit for getting the answers half right. Take him for anything he teaches!
Great teacher, easy to understand, helpful. Midterms/tests are very fair. He gives all the information you need to do a great job. Would take another class from him.
Ok stats is no joke. It isn't hard math but there is a ton of new terminology and so much new topics. Mr. Oliver teaches this class exactly how it should be taught! Since there is so much work in this course he makes it painless and easy as possible. His lectures are also crystal clear! The HW is a life saver and prepares you for the tests.
Statistics was my nemesis until Mr. Oliver! Don't be misled, though, his class still requires a lot of work, but if you don't miss class, take good notes, and complete all the homework, you will succeed! His lecture notes and worked examples are a life-saver when you're doing the HW. Thank you, Mr. Oliver!!
Despite him have a very annoying whistle when he talks...he's a very good math teacher. He goes at a great pace for the class. He postpones tests if he feels the class wouldnt be prepared. I didn't take math for 5 years prior to his class, but he made it very clear. Math teachers don't get much better than him.
Mr. Oliver is clear, concise, humble and awesome! I'm not very good at math, and Oliver was absolutely amazing. Its you're regular math class deal, three tests, and homework. Accumulative final. He's up to date when it comes to math, and you'll see if you take him. I would take him for higher math.
BEST math professor EVER! Very clear in his lectures, gives a good amount of homework, 3 exams, 1 commulative final. Attendance is key IF you are not good at math! He is really nice and willing to help!I HIGHLY recommend taking Mr Oliver!
show up to class, COPY HIS EXAMPLES (pay attention during examples, thats how you understand the material) and do your hw. he lets you use a cheat sheet for exams and is always available during office hour. as long as you understand him, you'll do fine on exams. he can get picky with little things on grading exams so pay attention to that
Prof. Oliver has to be one of the best teachers I've ever had. Very organized, thorough, clear, helpful, and not to mention absolutely hilarious. Just do your part and listen, take good notes, and do your homework. He is very helpful and will take the time to clarify and answer your questions. You won't regret it.
He takes roll everyday but doesn't consider attendance mandatory if you can still do good in the class. I recommend attending. If you miss too much you get really lost. He gives three midterms but drops the one with the lowest score. He is a VERY good teacher and tends to dance a little. Clear, precise and answers any questions you may have.
I was really nervous about taking a math class because I wasn't that great in it during high school. He is very friendly & is open to questions while he's lecturing. During class, there's short notes & then he goes over about 25 examples from the hw, it gets boring, but the examples are helpful. 3 tests (drops the lowest grade) and a final.
After not being in school for 35 years, I had my reservations. Mr. Oliver was very pleasant to work with, used the book for examples and kept the class involved. If you have his class, you will need to be there, take notes, ask questions and do the homework. Most of all study. If you do all these things, you will pass and enjoy the class doing so.
Not a good lecture. He writes the whole lecture on the white board first and then talks about it. hard to understand his notes too. this is a tough course.
Although I don't like the fact that he writes all the notes on a whiteboard then talks about it when we're writing, he gives good examples. You get assigned about a section of homework each night but nothing is due until the day of the test. He's really funny and has a SSSSSH sound when he says words.
Instructor isn't very helpful when it comes to test taking. It seems as if he grades whatever he wants on exams. I did decent on the first exam that I really deserved a C + instead he gave me a very low D. This is the second time I take his class & it will be the last. I'm going with another instructor. He doesn't care that students really try.
Bad bad teacher, doesn't care about the student at all, he just care about covering all the chapters, regardless you learned or not, he is not helpfull, and even I did good on My midterms he graded me the same as he did with the ones who were failing on midterms C, I Would never take another class with him not even if he is the only teacher left !
One of the best teachers ever i've ever had. I took this class over summer, of course i was hesitant because of the speed of the course over 8 weeks. but mr. oliver is very helpful. he answered my questions thoroughly. I am not the strongest in math but with studying, i received an a. he was able to help me after class and really wants to help.
I'm not that great at math, I had to take it 3 times to pass. I think he's a great teacher because he doesn't try to trick you, he lets you use a calculator on the test and if you study your notes some of those problems are on the test. Best teacher in my opinion.
This is only my 2nd week taking him & he goes way to fast. He has bad memory & goes off topic a lot. He doesn't go step by step on his problems. Wouldn't recommend him
Very humble man with a great sense of humor. His lectures are clear and he's always willing to help. He moves fast (2 sections a class) but he teaches you everything you need to know. Homework is assigned every class &due the following week so you get a whole weekend to bond with your hw. Great teacher! Definitely going to take stats with him.
He has insulted the entire class everyday by saying that we will not find work w/o math. I have a career & only require this course to start making more than my $24hr position. He called a student stupid for pointing out the class is holding a C- average. He does not have a phone & only tells you that you have not studied enough. No help at all.
Great Instructor! If you're having trouble with Math, Mr Oliver is the instructor that will be of great benefit to you. He moves a bit fast when explaining problems on the board, however he's always willing to help you one on one during his office hours. I knew very little about algebra before taking his class. I've made major improvements!
Oliver is a great teacher, but this class is hard. He warns you in the beginning that you MUST study and keep up with the homework in order to pass. His class does drag on sometimes, but he explains things clearly. I highly recommend him if you plan on learning math and are willing to put in the hard work to get an A.
If you fail Mr. Oliver's class, then it's b/c you ddn't try hard enough. He does warn everyone that it is a tough 5 unit math class, and that we would have to study a LOT to get a passing grade. Do all of your homework & make sure you know the material WELL. That's how I got an A :) Oh&also, you can always email him! He responds fast & is helpful.
Mr Oliver has a great sense of humor and uses it to inspire us to do well in math There is a lot of homework, but it's not due until test days, of which there are few, so you have a lot of time to review and get the material down before doing the tests. He is about little details too, which is also essential for doing well in math
I took Mr. Oliver for Math 65&Math 55 and I really liked his class. Basically, he lectures and then assigns homework based on the examples done in class. It could become a lot if you don't keep up. Also, if you are confused, ask him before andor after class, or even during the break he gives (for 2 hour classes). Work hard and study a lot!
Mr. Oliver is a great teacher. He truly understands how to teach. He is extremely clear and breaks everything down. My sound like he is beating it to death a little but it really pays off in the end. Has a good sense of humor and doesn't have a problem explaining when someone is confused. When you need it he is always ready to help in depth.
I'm half way through my Spring 2015 semester with Mr. Adolf and he is an awesome instructor! He basically does examples in class that are right out of the book and assigns homework that really isn't hard if you keep up. There's 3 midterms total but he throws out your worst score, leaving only the 2 best! Class is always fun and he is so helpful!
Always makes jokes. Easy grader. Makes hw due at every midterm (be careful it's easy to get behind). only 3 midterms and he throws out your lowest score. Sometimes he can make things more confusing than they actually are, but overall he is a good teacher. Always willing to help. Lets you take exams early if you need to.
Pros: He works on similar homework problems with you. He trys to make easy tests questions He's funny Lets us out early Cons: He talks way to much to much HW He makes mistakes when solving a math problem BUT OVERALL I will definitely take him for statistics.
He reviews the even numbered hw problems during class and then assigns the odd hw problems, approximately 8-15 problems for hw. The answers are in the back of the book so you can reference them. Great teacher, easy to understand, doesn't overload you with unnecessary work. My ONLY issue was the fact that he does not give study guides for tests.
His class would be easy if he gave study guides for tests, or at least a chance to correct mistakes on a tests for partial credit. It's easy to get the formulas mixed up in Statistics. Half the class bombed the final. Good news: 40% of your grade is homework which is easy so make sure you do all of it. I noticed he grades kindly on students who try
Old-school professor who is clear and straightforward. 2 tests and a final, homework due at each test. Always willing to help and answer questions, gives partial credit, and is more lenient if you actually try to understand the material. He allows a full sheet of paper to use on the tests and his homework is lighter than most. Highly recommended.
He's a great teacher. I took him for 55 and43 he tells you up front what to expect the class time is nothing but lecture and examples but all in all he breaks everything down and goes slow so everyone can understand, stats is not easy but with him its manageable, you have to want it
There is no student to teacher interaction unless you have a question. The homework is basically the study guide for test. BEWARE he does not curve your grade even if you are one point away from a better grade.
He's not the best math professor there. He's the only one talking throughout the class. It's okay if you can study yourself.
I can't say anything negative about Mr. Oliver. I hate math but he makes the material easy to understand. The homework is a pain but it really does help prepare for the test. I love that he is straightforward, funny, & down to earth. If you want to succeed in his class, don't skip class and do the homework. He teaches shortcuts & explains it well.
Mr. Oliver is a awesome Math teacher for those who find Math one of their weakest subjects. I love Math, yet I've had trouble with certain aspects of it. I was still able to pass Math 65. I wish that I could enroll in his Math 55 next semester but its only being taught by him in the evenings. If you need help with Math, Mr Oliver is the way to go.
He's a great teacher, very clear and organized. He does not give study guides for the tests. There are only 3, and homework, both determine your grade. Ask around for his tests because they're similar each semester. I still have all of his tests and they've dramatically helped other students. The final is tough but its Math. What do you expect
He has been teaching for over 40 years, he doesn't use ANY technology.. (can barley use the TI-84) He write ALL his lectures on the white bored, making class very long and boring. The lectures don't make sense until you attempt the homework. He is so such a sweet teacher but I really depended on myself to pass.
Traditional, and straight-forward professor. 2 midterm exams worth 40% of grade, homework is due on exam day, homework is 30%, final worth 30%. Very lecture heavy, long, and excruciatingly slow-paced, if you can teach yourself, and not procrastinate on homework, you'll pass. He does allow old editions for books, I got mine for 5.99.
This class is for students, who are totally new to statistics or know little about statistics. You just need to put some effort and study and do the home works and you will do fine. No need to be nervous about this class, he wants his students to learn something and not to just finish the book.
He rushes through topics very quickly so you must attend class. Only two tests and one final. Final is comprehensive. Each exam is 30 percent of your total grade.. Does not do extra credit or test corrections. Don't take if math is difficult for you.
He rushes through topics very quickly so you must attend class. Only two tests and one final. Final is comprehensive. Each exam is 30 percent of your total grade.. Does not do extra credit or test corrections. Don't take if math is difficult for you. He assumes you know this stuff. Isn't very helpful.
Great teacher! Classes are lecture heavy, and all the homework is due on the day of the exams. Exams aren't difficult and he gives you the option to bring in your own formula sheet. Only 3 exams and no quizzes. He's a very thorough teacher and very easy to understand. I would highly recommend this teacher!
