You can tell that Dr. Andelin cares about what he's teaching and wants you to love the material as much as he does.
Dr Andelin cares about his students, that is evident. However, this is his second quarter being an lecturer at UW. His teaching style and grading methods are still being ironed out. A 2.5 in his class is an 80% which is pretty rigorous. his test questions are too verbose and even though exams are 70% of your grade, they are only 25 questions!
Hes a good guy and definitely accessible outside of class. I like him and I like his straightforward lecturing but he is annoying in a few ways. His test policy is that ANYTHING in the 400 page textbook or lectures is fair game. He asks about tiny microscopic details and writes way too lengthy questions. You cant miss class, polls will kill you.
Adrian was super nice, however it was obvious how desperate he was to be liked. His lectures were interesting but it was obvious he read the book last night and was just going off of that. Sometimes, I felt as though he didnt really understand the experiments he was explaining to us. Also, he never shuts up about his dog.
Incredibly nice guy with a clear grading criteria and he's knowledgeable. Grade relies heavily on in-class polling but he has panapto. Exams are 25-40 questions all multiple choice but the questions can be very specific and long. You have to know the material well - go to most lectures, take notes, read the book, review panaptos to do well.
At some point, you will realize that he doesn't know what he's talking about. In class, he seems to be knowledgable, funny and approachable, but towards the end of the quarter, you'll know what I'm talking about. He doesn't accept alternate answer even though his answer is DEFINITELY wrong and if you don't see him reply to your email -> rejected
attendance is not mandatory, but it counts for up to 5% extra credit which is generous. study guides are super useful for whats going to be on the exam, and the exams are not too difficult although he through in 1-3 questions that are a wild card. about 45 multiple choice questions per exam. overall would recommend him for this class.
This class was very difficult. Get ready to read the whole textbook or you will not do well. Was very confused most of the quarter as what he taught in the slides did not match up with what was in the exams (all from the textbook).
The exams aren't too difficult if you did your readings and review the study guide. Pollev points were 5 extra credit points but he did have some trick questions to catch the people at home (they wouldn't get any ec for the rest of the quarter). Easy material and quiz sections weren't mandatory unless there's a project!! He also loves his dog a lot
This class was online during COVID, but that didn't stop Dr. Andelin from giving amazing zoom lectures! He reviews previous lectures almost daily and drops your lowest exam. His dog is so cute!! The exams were more than fair, but then again they were open-book. I read almost all the assigned reading but probably don't need to. I recommend!!!
Truthfully, had two classes with Dr. Andelin. He respects students, asks for a lot of feedback to his teaching. Most grades are depended on quizzes, which are not very difficult if you spent time reading the textbook and reviewing his lecture slides. He also offers a lot of outside class help. You will learn a lot with him if you spend some effort.
Dr. Andelin is by far my favorite professor in the Psychology department. He makes every lecture fun and interactive, and if you do all the polls you get 3% added to your overall grade. The tests aren't hard and the homework is usually just readings. 11/10 would recommend
Dr. Andelin is a cut above the rest. Cares about students and is truly knowledgeable. Learning about Cognitive Psych was a joy. Read the book before class to really get the most out of class. For Covid era online class this was great, lectures were fun and fresh just like being in the classroom. Classwork aided learning and exams were fair.
This was one of my favorite classes at UW so far. 3 midterms, weekly quizzes and reading assignments, but the worst of all 3 categories is dropped. Final cant be dropped but tests are super easy if you ready and study. Prof Andelin is super funny and makes the class very enjoyable. Poll everywhere each class that counts as extra credit too!
The best professor I have taken at UW! I really enjoyed his lectures and hw assignments. Try your best at reading the book/notes and learning the concepts as it will help you to get an easy A on exams. P.S. his dog is awesome!!!
I need more professors like Dr. Andelin. The class is a lot to take in, but I live for his dog and all the pictures of Bodhi scattered throughout his presentations. Andelin care a lot about his students and is an awesome person to talk to during office hours.
He is a nice, friendly, and approachable professor. Yet, too much homework: 2 papers (3-4 pages) through quarter, online quizzes every week, reading the textbook 40-60 pages a week, reading assignments (around 1-2) every week, asking question on Packback 1 question and answer 2 others questions a week,4 midterm every 2 week, and final.
I really enjoyed this class. His lectures cover a lot of information in a decently concise manner, and his assignments are manageable. There are quite a few of them, including papers, article summaries, and quizzes, but they aren't too difficult if you do the readings and attend lecture. There are lots of extra credit opportunities as well!
Dr. Andelin is amazing! He makes the class engaging (online) with pics of Bodhi. He always tries to answer all questions raised in class and is an overall very helpful and enthusiastic professor. The class overall isn't very hard if you keep up with readings or lectures. 4 midterms (tests), 1 final. Easy grading.
This teacher is literally amazing. He cares so much about his students and works really hard to make lectures interesting and engaging (like watching the office clips). There are 3 noncumulative midterms and 1 cumulative final, but he drops one. Weekly quiz/discussion, 2 papers, and extra credit polleverywhere for attending class. Best teacher ever
This class is absolutely great! I had this prof for PSYCH 101 and it was just amazing. The content from 101 and 202 will overlap, so its a bit easier to understand concepts. His participation is not mando, but will offer extra credit if you do show up and answer his Poll everywhere questions. Pay attention and you'll get a minimum 3.5, easy A.
Professor Andelin is a fun professor and he is definitely knowledgeable. But his style of teaching is not that reassuring and responsible for his students. There was a blank picture in exam and he just sent us an email and pretend there is the picture. As we open it, it was his dog Bohdi (Bohdi is cute but you wont feel happy when that happen
Dr. Andelin has been a wonderful professor because he puts effort into teaching and making sure students understand the material being taught! Not only is he great at teaching, but he's also an educational and professional comedian! I would 100% take his class again because I actually learned a lot without even wanting to try. Great job, professor!
If you go to class everyday, you can get 2 extra points to your grade. Lectures are a little boring as its just the presentation of info. 4 exams, first 3 you can drop your lowest and final is mandatory. Read the textbook, go to class, ask questions, study; youll do great!
Look, he's a fairly good lecturer which is what most of the class will be and tho there is a fair amount of hw its all easy. I just don't like the pop culture references on exam questions and (crucify me idc) I just don't care about the dog.
I really like how he teach he always make the lecture fun and not boring lol if you love dog I guess you would get along with him. This class requires a lot of reading but don’t worry quiz and test are easy just make sure to read the textbook and listen to his lecture and you will be solid :)
Professor Andelin was great. It is clear from his lectures that he is passionate about teaching psychology. He cares about his students doing well and trys to make lectures fun and engaging. He wants you to do well and the class is easy to succeed in.
This professor has an engaging lecture style with a sense of humor and vibrant tone. He clearly loves this subject and wants us to learn all about it. He also talks a lot about his dog (Bodhi) and includes a pic in every lecture, which, hello!!All lectures are recorded but class is more fun. Grading is really fair across many assignments.
There are four exams, a quiz about every week, review questions every week, one discussion post a week, and poll everywhere questions for extra credit, with the lowest score in each category is dropped. The material itself isnt difficult, but some of the exam question are long and make you think, so if you can manage your time well, youll be fine
Dr. Andelin was a great teacher for Psych 101! I enjoyed how up he was with the times. Lectures are not necessary, but can have specific questions on tests. The every other day in-person lectures were okay, although I prefer in person. Can show annoyance if certain questions are asked though, so pay attention to not miss things! Loved this class!
The class is easy and concepts are clear. Lectures were unnecessary-- he took nearly everything on his slides from the book-- I only went to lectures and didn't read the book and got a 4.0. The issue with Dr. Andelin is that he is disrespectful to students and TAs. He constantly misgendered a TA and is not understanding in difficult circumstances.
Dr Andelin is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. He make learning fun and relatable. Love his jokes and his dog. 12/10.
This class was super easy, basically all memorization. Dr. Andelin is a great lecturer and very funny as well. Highly recommend taking it for an easy elective.
His lectures are engaging. He loves his dog a lot. He will extend 1 thing for you per quarter maybe more if he likes you, but he did not like me. This is my 2nd time taking this course. I had to retake because I had a medical issue and missed the final and he would not extend it even though I had doctors and ER notes. So... dont get hurt.
He is an amazing professor who if you study the study guide well will do fine in the class. He is caring and really has a passion for teaching I recommend him to everyone
Like many students in the class, I only took biopsych because it's a prerequisite for the psych major. Professor Andelin is very friendly and charismatic, but he struggles to answer questions well and his study guides for exams are unhelpful. He often curves exams which is nice. I like him as a person, but I don't think he's an effective teacher.
I absolutely loved his class. His lectures were super funny and the only thing that was actually making me get out of bed for the 8am class time. It was mainly memorization, and if you just review the study guide it'll be super easy and fun.
1. A lot of homeworks. But if you complete them carefully, your grades will be good. 2. 4 Exams. 3 Midterms and 1 Final. The lowest Midterm will be dropped. 3. Textbook readings are recommended but not required. I fell like if you attend class everyday, it is fine to not read the textbook.
I took this back in Jan 2022, so it was partially online. Concepts were super easy. The dog is adorable. Easy 4.0
This Professor is really good. He answers student questions well, his lectures are interesting, his criteria is clear, he holds office hours, and he's really kind. One time I forgot to write my name on the exam; rather than throwing my exam in the trash, he graded it and I got my score. Best of all, he drops the lowest assignment for every category
I've had Dr. Andelin before and he's great! Sometimes a little cocky, but aside from that he's passionate about psychology and you can tell he loves what he does. Class is overall pretty easy, tests are closed note so be sure to study, but as long as you do the work on time and well, you will do great in his class. A LOT of info though for sure.
Dr. Andelin is a kind person! His exam will not be difficult if he takes notes carefully, and will provide a lot of extra credits.
He has really entertaining lectures, and he brings his dog on the last day of class.
This class would be unbearable if it were any other prof. This course has a lot of information and homework. The tests are DENSE. You must read the book and attend class to succeed. This is the only time I have read the entire book for a class and genuinely enjoyed and understood it. His teaching style is very effective. Nearly perfect professor.
I would recommend this class because Dr. Andelin does a great job at explaining things in an interesting way. He relates things we learn to real life scenarios, which makes things easier to comprehend. He also talks about his dog a lot, it's so sweet. This class has a lot of busy work and requires a lot of memorization, but it's all very doable.
Andelin is super entertaining, understanding, and informative. The class was great and not hard to follow at all!
Great lecturer and super nice! We were graded on many different things, but the exams were brutal. So much material and the study guides were super broad. He's bad with communicating sometimes too, especially with canceling class. That being said, he's probably the most entertaining professor I've had at UW and I would definitely recommend him.
Very passionate about the subject. You do need to study for this class, but it's not too bad. As long as you pay attention and attend lectures, you'll get an A. He's just a really nice funny guy, who makes the material fun to learn. Would definitely recommend.
I don't intend to subject to any halo effects. His teaching style is overall phenomenal but has the potential for information overload. Concepts are highly specific and exams had ambiguous and complex wordings that can mess you up. His dog was interesting but I found him went too fast in lectures & occasionally did not address my questions clearly
A genuinely wonderful professor across the board. He cares for his students, wants them to succeed, and has the cutest dog in the world (I love you Bodhi). Make sure to do the textbook readings and go to lectures to fully understand content. He drops lowest grade from every assignment category, including exams, and is ultimately one of the best.
Very engaging lecturer but exams and quiz questions are poorly worded in my opinion. Also grades attendance every day with poll everywhere which is problematic. Otherwise, he's nice and you can tell he cares about students, just not my favorite teaching style or class structure. I can see how it might work well for a different type of learner
I frickin love this man and his dog. Be prepared to read a lot and attend/watch all lectures. If you do, you will need to study minimally since it's just lots of memorization. Superrr knowledgeable and hilarious. 4 midterms, weekly quizzes and graded class participation. But he drops the lowest score from all categories! Fav class i've ever taken.
This by far is my favorite class and professor I have had at UW so far. The class is hard but if you read the textbook and go to lecture, you will be fine. I wish I could take this class again. Its amazing.
Many people don't like him for 355, but for 202 which I feared because of what people were saying, he made it so easy. It was almost difficult to not do well. Just go to the lectures (which are fun af), read the textbook (which is actually engaging for once), and do the work. Fantastic professor who teaches at a good pace!
do the readings early and you'll be fine. Dr. Andelin is a super amiable and nice guy, don't be afraid to go up and ask questions if you're confused about anything and its an easy A.
His teaching was so lucid & I could clearly see his passion in neurobiology. Content-wise, this is one of the toughest class in psychology with many arcane biology details to master. 3 open exams, 2-3 polls/class, weekly quizzes & scholarly journal presentation and summaries to polish your critical analysis skills.
Dr. Andelin is goated fr. Love his dog. 4 tests, one of which is dropped (including the final, so you can get away with not taking it). One thing in each grading category is dropped. I hate lectures but his were entertaining and soothing.
Although this class can be hard at some points, Professor Andelin makes it a welcoming environment. 4 tests, one of which can be dropped, and most of the text information you can get from the PowerPoints. Study guides provided. Really funny and has a great dog. Side note, I think the organ of Corti should be called the organ of Bodhi.
Had a blast
One of the best professors I had here. I highly recommend taking his class. I found it super entertaining and he's just a great guy. If I could I'd take his class again just for fun. He knows so much information and make the class very intriguing.
Prof Andelin is a great lecturer that keeps class interesting. He made the content easy to understand. I would say that the way quiz/exam questions were phrased sometimes were a bit confusing, but you should still do well if you keep up with lecture and textbook readings. Bohdi (his dog) is really cute, you'll get to hear a lot about him.
one of the best professors I've had! I will definitely take other classes that he teach! Just stay on top of your studying and you'll do great, especially that everything is graded fairly!
Goated prof with goated dog. If you want entertaining lectures with a cute dog named Bodhi, 10/10 class for you. 4 exams, one of them you can drop. Lots of extra credit opportunity. To do well in this class, minimal effort is just paying attention in class and reading the textbook with flashcards. Good luck.
I always looked forward to attending the lectures because the Professor's lectures are enjoyable and he always shares pictures of his dog! The class in general wasn't as difficult as I anticipated, and I learned a lot. There's a clear grading criteria that he states on the syllabus and his exams were all multiple choice.
This is my second course with Dr. Andelin. He is super helpful and genuinely cares for his students. This course is a little more challenging than 202, the workload is manageable. I recommend go to his office hour if you are confused about course contents. Exams are not difficult as long as you understand the lecture and reading contents.
content can be difficult but andelin is a great teacher and made lectures engaging and understandable. you will need to do the reading but he makes good study guides for tests, your lowest test score gets dropped. pollev questions for attendance but there are drops and ways to make up the points
Basically as long as you read the text book and go to lecture you'll do great. I like his grading style of dropping your lowest grades from each section of your grade. Poll everywhere is for credit, but he often reissues questions from poll everywhere on exams so getting these questions is really helpful
Andelin is one of the best psychology professors I've had at UW. I'm about to graduate, but he's someone I'll truly miss. If you're unsure whose class to take, just choose his!
Professor Andelin was an amazing lecturer and kept the class extremely engaged. His midterms were extremely easy, as long as you studied the content and took notes in quiz section. Also, the reviews before the midterm were very helpful. Overall, I highly recommend taking his courses.
Dr. Andelin is well organized and has clear grading criteria. I really enjoyed the flow of this class. I recommend doing the textbook reading prior to the lecture, as it makes more sense. He goes somewhat fast which I like, but without doing the readings before lecture it can be harder to absorb more in-depth info. No complaints, loved this class!
This course was super interesting and was one of the easiest psych classes I've taken at UW. There are a lot of terms and memorization for the exams but he allows you to make a notecard (front and back) to help with that. Dr. Andelin also provided an extra credit essay assignment for those wanting to boost their grade towards the end of the qtr.
I took Adrian for bio psych and he wasn't my favorite professor but this class made me love him as a teacher. Just keep up with the readings and go to class and take notes and you'll do good. Drops lowest exam scores
Great! I am really enjoying the course!
One of the best professors I've had. He has a good choice of TA's who grade fast and good feedback. He explains really well and genuinely cares about his students. If you really pay attention, the class is easy and it's so interesting too as a psychology major. I'm really happy I went down this path, especially with Adrian Andelin
Dr. Andelin is an amazing Psychology professor. His workload may be gigantic, but I believe it's all part of learning introductory psychology. His lectures are meaningful and complement the textbook, and are overall informative and worth it. Would 100% take his classes again, and his dog, Bodhi, is adorable.
Such an enthusiastic lecturer! His dog Bode is so cute and lectures are interesting but move fast. Extra credit is chill and helps a lot. Lets you drop lowest exam grade!
Professor Andelin is for sure one of my favorite professor's I've ever had. Psych 202 was amazing! He gives very informative lectures and as long as you stay on top of the readings and assignments you're almost guaranteed to get a 4.0. He's super funny and so kind during office hours. Make sure to meet his dog Bodhi on the last day of class!
Professor Andelin is an amazing professor!! I was very nervous about taking Psych 202 because i'm not the biggest fan of bio, but I really enjoyed his class. Very upbeat, easy to talk to, loves his dog! He shows a pic of his dog at the start of the lecture everyday. 3 exams and the final is optional. Allowed a notecard on exams. Such a good guy.
Your grade in this class is mainly decided by four exams, but he drops the lowest one and allows notecard use, so barely anyone takes the final. It is much easier to do the class like this. The textbook we used was lovely and his lectures were very good, but fast-paced. I would recommend him for sure. Very, very interesting material.
He's very knowledgeable about the coursework, and his lectures are engaging. He's very kind and would show us pictures of his dog at the beginning of class everyday which was adorable. Very good teacher who I highly reccomend.
PSYCH 101 is a very easy class (note sheet permitted so no need to memorize), but Dr. Andelin still makes it very fun and enjoyable
Although this class is completely outside of my major, the way he taught it made it fun. The textbook and lectures were clear and had supplementary graphics. He also would show a lot of pictures of his dog, which was really cute. Lectures are fast paced, but he also has a decent amount of extra credit opportunities. Overall a good guy!
Dr. Andelin's PSYCH 202 course was certainly more difficult than his PSYCH 101 class, but nonetheless, he was effective in connecting lecture concepts to the textbook readings. In every lecture, you could just tell he was passionate about what he was teaching and confident in students' retaining knowledge. Overall, a great person, and great teacher
Dr. Andelin manages to simplify complex content in a way that anyone can understand, something very important for complex topics like neural communication. He is an incredibly engaging lecturer and prepares students extremely well for the exams. Couldn't recommend him more, he really made my Biopsych experience special!
