Adrian is a great teacher. He really cares about his students succeeding, and is very passionate about Sociology. Tests are not a problem, as long as you study the study guides. Adrian posts all his lecture notes online, as well as current grades. Most informative class I have taken.
he really understands that his students and he will m,ake sure that you understand what he is teaching b4 moving on to the next! he is also super hott to so it makes u want o come to class more! he said that he will be teaching this class agian in spring 10, i think????
Adrian is a beast. He's a cool ass professor. He's young, so he understands our problems a little more then most professors. 4 Journals, 2 exams, read a boook, hella group discussions, couple movies, what else could you ask for. learned a crap load of information. loved his class. take his class. you won't regret a damn thing. lol
He is simple what everyone asking for.
Adrian is an awesome professor- enthusiastic & knowledgeable & you can tell he puts in a lot of effort to keep things interesting. More than fair in terms of grading- gives you thorough study guides for tests. Definitely the best teacher I've taken at sac city so far. Learned a lot and enjoyed going to class. Plus he's easy on the eyes(!)
Adrian is a great teacher. He's really helpful, has a good sense of humor, very easy-going, intelligent AND it doesn't hurt that he's pretty young (can relate to his students) & got the *lQQks* as well! His lectures are somewhat fun...2 tests...couple of papers...1 debate...All in all, you wouldn't regret taking this class! I know I haven't.
Great teacher, i had him for a 3 hour class that started @ 7:30 in the morning but he made it fun & the time usually flew by. Did a lot of group projects/discussions which was fun. Just skim the reading and pay attention and you will do fine.
Great teacher, makes lecture fun, group project and lots of critical discussion in class, he has a good sense of humor, he's young, very very helpful and understanding and very good looking too.
AMAZING TEACHER! he can make any class fun im sure. The best teacher ive ever had in my life and ive really learned alot. Im going to try to take him any other time i can
He is a wonderful professor. TAKE HIM ANY CHANCE YOU GET. Made a potentially very boring class interesting and fun. Tests are straight from the study guides. Good sense of humor. Nice guy.
Adrian is such a great teacher. He loves what he does and it shows. There are like 2 tests which are super easy if you just study the study guides. There's one group project, and it's cool if you get a good group. And there are 2 journal things. But he's young and funny. Plus, he's a cutie. But seriously, it's a good class & a great teacher.
THE BEST TEACHER YOU COULD POSSIBLY HAVE! HE MAKES LEARNING FUN AND INTERESTING. WISH ALL TEACHERS WERE LIKE HIM. GREAT CLASS
I noticed alot of positive reviews are based on instructor's appearance. to be honest with you, this class is a ton of work for it being an Intro class. I took 301 and it was 1/4 the work of this class. Instructor will not bump your grade to an A if your class percentage is 89%. Be prepared to do a ton of reading and writing! Enroll elsewhere!!!!!
Great professor, i don't even remember opening the textbook once. His lectures are very to the point and he incorporates everyday analogies, obviously. but the subject's material seems unstable and it's hard to remember ALL the content. It's a tough class to stay on top of. We didn't stay 'till the alotted end time once. P.S. what a cutie.
I am currently enrolled in Mr Fitz-Hugh's SOC321 afternoon classes and am enjoying myself. He is organized, intelligent, and extremely helpful. The lectures are often interesting and extra credit oppurtunities are available. You must do your work and stay on top of your readings; however, it is well worth it.
I hated this class! It's soooo boring, and I feel like the teacher doesn't do a good job in teaching because he's always asking for student participation. This made it difficult to understand the "point" because there were TOO many of a variety of examples. Hated this class and and would NEVER take it again!
I mostly enjoyed Prof. CF's class. Had Soc once a week on Fridays at 10:45, and I was usually only half-present mentally. However, I think he's witty, intellectual, and informed. One great professor.
I took SOC 300 & 321. 300 is very easy. 321 is easy as well, but there is more to do. Group work. Power point presentations to take notes from. Projects (individual & group) Book reading is a must. Grading system works fine. If get stuck or get some bad grades he'll help you out. Lots of extra credit. No need of political correctness. An important thing to mention is that he won't shove his ideas down your throat. If you believe and state the earth is flat, he'll grade you based on your arguments, not in the "facts"; he'll correct you kindly if you have some misconception about something by responding to you "I wouldn't say that", or "You think so?" which makes you wonder why he said such thing, so it furthers you to research and expand more your mind and why he believes so, and it is much better than having a teacher pushing you to change your mind. Also, it is a must if you leave your beliefs behind and start to see both sides, one topic talked in class is about ethnocentrism, consequently it will take you to different territories. No writing skills necessary, I suck at writing and got grades (this is mostly for all of you that go off topic frequently and write random stuff) You have some sense of humor (it is funnier when he comes up with spontaneous word play and comments) He's a good teacher, but he needs a little "something" (experience?). He's cool and understands people. Take him.
I THOUGHT THIS WAS SORT OF A HARD CLASS FOR BEING AN INTRO TO SOC.. HE DOES USE POWERPOINT TO TAKE NOTES FROM..HE ENGAGES AND GIVES US EXAMPLES.. PRETTY FUNNY TOO...HE MAKES US DO 2 ASSIGNMENT BINDERS BUT DO NOT WAIT TILL THE LAST MINUTE TO WORK ON IT..
This class was interesting, I learned a lot. There's a lot of extra credit, a few easy quizzes from the reading, 6 hw responses and a "big" project. He's very easy going. I feel bad when he can't get people to engage in the class lecture. It might just be the type of people that take his class. He's a really good professor.
Really awesome professor. He's not a hard grader and there wasn't a whole lot of homework involved aside from the last big paper. He's really approachable, and he acknowledges when the material is really BORING. The fact that he's cute doesn't hurt either lol
AMAZING!! One of my favorites so far. If you don't understand something, his office hours will be your best friend (even if you just want to talk too). Some of the stuff we went over was tricky and that final paper was no joke, but as long as you're willing to try, he's willing to help. oh the book...eh use the library's
I TOOK PROFESSOR AFC FOR TWO DIFFERENT CLASSES. HE IS VERY DOWN TO EARTH AND UNDERSTANDING. THERE ARE VARIOUS OPINIONS AND DEBATES THAT FLY AROUND DURING CLASS DISCUSSION, BUT HE IS ALWAYS RESPECTFUL OF OPINIONS. IF YOU REVIEW ALL HIS NOTES AND STUDY GUIDES YOU WILL GET AN A!!!
What a great professor! I'm so glad that I picked a class with not only an interesting subject but also a fun teacher. He is awesome at explaining things and is also very funny. AFC is nice and laidback as well. The class isnt very hard and you can always ask questions.
Would definitely recommend this class to anyone! Professor is very approachable. Must keep up with reading as he assignments reading responses and pop-quizzes. The text is interesting so its not a drag to read the text. Gives study guide with midterms and lots of extra credit. One research paper and presentation at the end of semester.
Wonderful Professor! Very approachable. Text book reading is mandatory as he gives pop-quizes. Big research paper and presentation at end of semester. Very interesting class and not boring at all!
Prof. Adrian is the "BOMB"!!!! I took Sociology a few semesters ago and got a D, so I decided to take his class based off the great rating and all the positive things said about him are true. He cares about all of his students and really tries to help his us understand without making us feel stupid. He's so amazing and class is fun!(Soc300 Online:)
I took his class awhile ago. He is pretty funny and makes the lectures and class interesting. This class was pretty easy, only thing we had to do was 2 binder assignments which were pretty easy. Overall, i enjoyed his class.
If your thinking about taking SOC 300 from Professor Chevraux-Fitzhugh, DO IT! He is a great professor. He is really laid back, down to earth and really cares about his students. He never makes you feel dumb if you don't know or get an answer wrong. Didn't use the book at all and did wonderful. He really is what a professor should be.
it is a very interesting class, and he allows you to open up personal issues in assignments. he is very helpful, and gets back to emails promptly.
Although this class(soc 305) can be boring at times, it has nothing to do with Adrian! hes a great guy who makes going to class worth it.
This material for this class is so horribly boring. It's basically dissecting common sense - really, really dry if you're semi-intelligent. The debates are a nice break from the absolutely dreadfully painfully boring lectures. He's a nice teacher and I'm sure he has to use the 'mandated' material for 'critical thinking', but better options exist.
He is a great professor. Easy to understand and explain material very well. Quizzes and exam have study guide so if you attend class read and study you will be fine.
I took him for Race, Ethnicity, and Equality in Spring 2011 and he was AWESOME! I had never taken a Sociology class before, and I'm so glad I took his class. I agree that he never makes you feel stupid, it's a very open environment. He's very approachable and laid back. Absolutely take him!
He is very nice. The class is really easy but the midterm and final are kind of hard, a student who takes him wants to make sure they study and do all the side work. He also has in class pop quizes so make sure you have good attendance.
This was an online class with 3 mandatory meetings. Course work was done on d2l. Class was broken up into 2 groups. One week 1 group is responsible for assignments & other group just replied to it. Fairly easy. Tests were straight from study guides so if u knew the material you will succeed. Pretty straight forward. Recommend textbook.
The class starts out super easy then picks up after the midterm. Lots of chances for extra credit. The material is very dry and, yes, dissecting what seems to be common sense with sociological terms, but that's the material. Adrian does a lot to make the class interesting and relatable. He makes jokes and really wants people to talk.
Pretty easy class. Adrian is a goofy guy, but he's very friendly and helpful. Grading system does not make a lot of sense to me (A's on all written work, high B's on tests and B in the class?) but it's an easy class to pass. Just do the writing assignments and use the study guide for tests.
This class is great! That being said, it's HEAVY on writing, and you read academic journals. If you aren't on top of the game regarding reading and writing, you'll struggle. Also, the last part of the class is boring. Material wise, he can't do much about it. Great professor! Take this class.
This class can definitely be tough if you are lazy. You have to read the material assigned which can be a little dense at times and keep up on the writing assignments and quizzes, as they are all online. He does not babysit the students, rather treats us like college students. I appreciate his teaching style and he's there if needed.
Great proffesor! Study guides are exactly what is on the test. There will be one extensive paper and then 4 short writing assignments. Subject matter can be a bit dry but the entore class is not full of lecture. He's very helpful and nice.
I was weary of taking an online class but professor Chevraux-FitzHugh made things go smoothly. He reminds you of when things are due and is quick to respond to questions. I enjoyed his class.
Great professor but the only thing I didn't like was that he marked you down points if you posted your discussion board responses on the same day.. I like to get my homework done instead of putting half of it off till the next day. Kind of annoying since I did the work but got marked down for doing it at the same time? Other than that, he was good.
The online class was straight forward. Participate, do the discussion boards, and use the study guide for the final, you will most likely get an A.
Midterm and Final are easy except for the essay questions. But he gives them to you ahead of time so you can prepare! Class is easy, he is really nice!
Took online nutrition 300. He was excellent in my opinion. Very helpful, clear, and just an all around nice person. Would take again!
Took his online sociology 300 class. He is very nice, very helpful, gives great feedback. He is big on discussion points, so don't be lazy about that and out a little effort into your responses. If you're unsure, just ask!
weekly discussion boards that relate to the reading, simple. quizzes and exams are fairly easy as long as you read the chapters. one paper assigned (easy). I would definitely take his class again, soc341 next semester :)
Super easy going and his lectures are very easy, his lectures follow the exams and quizzes a lot. There's always a review before the exams.
excellent teacher, very enthusiastic and easy to understand. he makes class fun and interesting. definitely come to class for participation points. he gives study guides on all quizzes and exams, and gives the essay questions ahead of time so you know exactly how to prepare! one of the best teachers I've had - definitely take him if you can.
I was pleasantly surprised with Adrian. He has a great sense of humor, willing to spend time to make sure you understand the assignments, gives study material for tests, and he doesn't bust your chops if you are 5 mins. late for class. One of the best professors I have had. I would take his class again.
This professor made the best experience I've had with online classes! He is very clear with deadlines and instructions! You don't have to guess what is expected from you. Just do your work and you should pass! What I really appreciated was how quick he responded to e-mails and questions. That is so important with online classes! He's great!
He is hands down my favorite professor. Super funny and intelligent. Just do the work and listen and you'll be golden. Always on time, responsible, and understanding. Fastest emailer at Sac City! He cares about helping his students understand concepts and is welcoming to questions. All around great professor.
Great professor for people who learn by getting the whole picture rather than people who learn more by memorizing definitions. All your work is basically, "take this quiz" or "your view and understanding of this complex idea." Assignments LOCK after deadline. He WILL read everything you write so no bs. Few test answers are on google.
Adrian is an awesome professor! I took his three-hour class and he made the three hours of lecture not boring, for other classes a three-hour class might be boring, but not this class. Be prepare to put in work for the long essay at the end of the semester, the debates are fun as well. Work hard & you'll earn your A!
He's a great professor that understands college students. He doesn't make the students suffer. He's chill in every way. His class was very simple and interesting. I highly recommend him.
Pretty good. Pretty clear with what he wants you to do in the class, and teaches lots of interesting things. It will be a pretty easy A if you take notes.
Most of your grade is based on one paper, so I didn't like that. Otherwise, pretty solid professor. He tries so hard to get people to participate during lectures. Every day there's at least one participation assignment where he makes you get into groups and discuss something. He's a really funny guy.
He had a difficult class. He was very critical on group discussions and submitting feedback to classmates that would intellectually add to the discussion. If you have no interest in sociology, and are only taking the class for the credit, then do not choose this teacher.
Took his online class and if requires a lot of critical thinking and writing. He does read everything, so make sure not to bs. There is also a lot of reading involved, online and textbook, so be ready to read. As long as you do your weekly discussions and feedbacks, you should be good. Don't be lazy.
Book isnt required. A couple articles to read online every week or so. Many group discussions. 5-8 page research paper. Group debate/presentation a couple weeks before finals. Midterm was easy if you studied. Final is an easy A. A couple EC opportunities. As a teacher: he has a nice humor and his lectures are enjoyable. Super easy to talk to too.
If you pay attention its an easy pass
Had the best experience with this professor and my first sociology class. He grades fairly and is very involved even with the class being online. I would take another sociology class if he was teaching!! If youre taking Soc 300 online, take it with him. There are not many assignments, but participation matters a lot. Gives extra credit chances!
Had SOC 300 in fall 2018 with Adrian. His lectures were easy to understand and made it interesting. Gives a study guide for tests and explains the test formats ahead of time. We had a few papers and offered various options. As long as you pay attention in the class and participate, youll get a good grade.
Honestly, Soc 305 was a difficult class for me, but I feel like for other classes, the professor would be great. This class in particular was graded 35% on one critical thinking paper, and an additional 7% on the outlines for that paper. There were 0 tests, and the reading homework, which was long, was only 8%. 1/2 online bc Covid.. in person betr
Great Professor to get your general ed credits out of the way. He is funny and accessible out of the classroom. His lectures are boring, but he tries to make them engaging. No textbook required or final/ midterm. The final for the class is a research paper, but he lets you pick your topic of interest. If you do the work there is no reason to fail.
I took this class on Spring 2020. The class was very straight forward. If you participate, do the discussion boards, and use the study guide for the midterm, you will most likely get a high grade. We didn't have a final for the class, but we had to write a solution's paper and provide a visual representation for the problem we chose to talk about
Hes a great professor. he really knew how to get the class to chat! loved it. studied enough to get a passing grade on both midterm and final. but does give extra credit! A true king of soc i shall say. funny guy and got threw his lectures with many great questions from my peers. he broke his students out of their shells.
-no weekly lecture with was nice -lectures were just readings he would attach in the modules, a LOT of readings. -you can get by without reading them sometimes. cuz the assignments don't always ask about the readings, more so your thoughts and ideas. -0 tests, your grade is mostly from the final paper and discussions. -easy class. Flew by fast.
Professor Chevraux was great he was super interactive with the class and hosted a weekly zoom for people to interact with him if need be, there was only one or two large assignments for the class and he gave a long time to do them and held workshops and other tasks to help guide people along the process. All of the text book access he used was free
If you put your part, it's going to get you a good grade. There is a little load of reading but reasonable and easy to understand.
This course was an 8 week course, everything was well organized. There was limited homework and it was asynchronous. The feedback he would give on discussions was really helpful in remembering course material, and the short answers in the test connected back to discussions. Overall, I would recommend this course if you want to work at your own pace
Super laid back and easy teacher, I am actually taking another class with him because of how good he was and I'm looking forward to it.
Great professor. His class requires you to stay on your due dates but they are not hard. Assignments can get long because of the readings.
All book reading. Class basically self-taught. Quizzes on random stats from the book that don't feel relevant to the larger concepts. Quizzes on terms not even in the text. If you can deal with that, course is fairly easy, just frustrating.
Awesome Professor!!! So flexible and so clear on his assignments. Discussion boards are split into two group so you would be doing one every other week. Tests are fair and this class was great!
This professor was amazing. Has very good insight about these racial social problems, for a white man. If you're a minority, its not a bad class to take, without being marginalized and discriminated against. He discusses topics from the actual source.
I slacked off a bit in this class but the assignments are so easy. Most the work are discussion boards and quizzes every other week. He recycled a lot of quiz questions on the midterm and final. Our research paper was easy and had to be at least 800 words. Just do your textbook readings and maybe take some notes, youll definitely pass the class.
Easy class. Skim the chapters, discussion post every week with quiz. Exams had a short answer section, but there is enough time to go back into the textbook to find the answers.
Thesis paper makes up much of grade, but there are scaffolding assignments to check progress. Lectures are presented both as videos (optional) and in text format. He works to make both formats engaging and understandable. Grading may take time (1-2.5 weeks) but he will leave feedback on every assignment. He is accessible. Lots of discussion posts.
This professor really cares and is really smart. Soc305 will help you critically think while teaching you how to decipher hard reading. Easy discussion boards and the final was a 10 page paper that we had all semester to do. Great feedback. Take this class if you want to learn from a professor who really cares!
I have taken SOC 300 and I am going to take SOC 305 with the same professor. This course was good to take even though sociology is not my major. You still learn from this class regardless. The professor does care about the students understanding of sociology. Good class to take online if you have a busy schedule. Professor is very understanding.
Prof Adrian is very well spoken and professional! I took his 8 week online course. While there is a lot of reading (I mean, it is a condensed course), the weekly assignments are thorough and easy to complete. I could have gotten an A but I slacked off a little here and there with not completing assignments. Overall, I highly recommend this class!
I had Professor Fitzhugh many many years ago. A good professor he understands you and you stay interacting with him through emails if you have an problem with you getting your assignments on time he will give you a little extra time stay in contact. I will be taking his class in the Spring Semester 2024.
Amazingly respectful guy. Has proven himself willing to bend over backwards to help struggling students get themselves back on the right track. Facilitates a friendly and cooperative environment that has made making friends in this class very easy. Overall an ideal teacher.
Professor Fitzhugh is great! Pretty simple and fun class. Big research paper as a final, a debate, and a couple homework assignments. All very doable. Makes lectures fun and is great to converse with. Would take again!
So nice!!!! Great professor! Responds fast! Loved this class!!
Great class
I enjoyed this class since it had an environmental focus. We had a discussion every week and sometimes a quiz every other week. He offered extra credit, which was helpful. We had to do a research paper, which didn't require much work. It is a manageable class since it is not an overload.
Professor Adrian was fantastic! He was very informative and knowledgeable! There is no final, but there is a pretty large research paper and a group debate project. This class was so much fun and really made you think of the importance of our critical thinking lenses and how we can foster this lens not just for school but throughout everyday life.
This professor was great! He was very respectful of DSPS accommodations, and gave very thoughtful feedback on assignments! This class is very easy as long as you do the discussions and pay attention to the material for the quizzes!
