Dr. Fleissig has an amusing english accent with some wit and charm to him. His classes are 100% note taking, with the tests derived from his lecture notes. Some students might not even need to buy the book. Fair and helpful.
made lectures very clear. handouts help understand. he has a british accent, but it is not difficult to understand at all. drew all graphs on board, and thoroughly explained everything you need to know. i would recommend taking his class.
He was a wonderful teacher. All you do is take notes in class and he writes EVERYTHING on the board. His tests are all essay, which were not easy, but not difficult if you listen in class. I recommend him for his class because I heard Econ 315 is harder.
Writes all notes on the board for you to study & memorize because they are on the exam, except the exam is the opposite of what he writes. So just study your notes, don't even need the book. Be in class everyday! Exams are written so careful as he is pick
Good teacher. Tests are based on his lectures. There is no need to buy the book.
All you need to do is come to class and write down everything he puts on the board. The book is not necessary but is helpful to clarify your notes. Almost all of the graphs come from the book. The tests force you to "apply" your knowledge but Dr. Fleissig is a very fair grader.
He is sooo cool! You will love econ after taking him. He made it very easy to understand and you don't need the book. It's a waste of money cuz his exams are based on his notes :)
great teacher, knows his stuff & is extremely knowledgable about the field & gives such a thorough lecture that the book is bascially useless...just attend classes, take good notes, study them and do the hw...its at least a guranteed B...charming english accent makes the class a bit more fun...
This is not an easy class but professor Fleissig makes it much easier to understand. He is very helpful & positive. His exams are understandable & become easier if U study the lecture notes the book is necessary because the prof. assigns pg's to read which R helpful for the exam.
The lectures and notes are really helpful. Be sure to attend class everyday. There isn't a lot of equations or formulas to remember. Study hard for the exams and final b/c they're worth a LOT of your grade. This class isn't very easy but he's a good professor.
class was interesting but pretty tough. you have to really study and pay attention to earn a good grade. theres lots of work to do but it helps you learn the materials for the test and trust me, you gotta have everything down if you want to pass the test and the class. he grades too hard on papers though.
Class is bit boring at times but no matter what write everything he write on the white board, including the many graphs. Try to attend all class meeting and you'll do fine. He tries to help you out alot if you go see him during office hour. Very nice guy
HIS LECTURE AND NOTE ARE CLEAR. HE WRITES EVERYTHING ON BLACKBOARD.DON'T MISS ANY CLASS. TESTS ARE ALL ESSAY AND CHALLENGING, BUT NO SURPRISE QUESTIONS. GRADING IS FAIR
he is a freak. but he is good an knows what he is talking about. THUMBS UP!!!
notes are wonderful and definitely useful for the future if you are econ major; tests are hard but he grade it generously; overall a good professor (no wonder he claims he is the world top 1.4% of economists)
great teacher. the subject is just plain hard, but he makes it easy to learn. don't need book, all notes and detailed but it helps in the end. he is a very smart person with a dry witty sense of humor. grea guy all around, he grades great giving partial for anything. want to learn something and ensure at least a c, take him u will like him.
Very fair proffesor.U study hard, you get a good grade. Very understanding too.
This dude CRACKS me UP! Interesting class, very organized and straight to the point of what you need to know. He has a very dry, british humor that is unlike any other professor I've taken, but very funny! It's hard to tell if he's joking or being serious, but very fair so far.
I have to disagree w/ the other raters. I had to drop the summer session b/c he refuse to explain the material over again when students ask questions. He claimed didn't have enough time but expect students to understand every single little thing in his lecture. I also noticed that he's not that knowledgeable in 315, read off his notes word by word
Those who dropped and didn't give him a chance this summer missed out! Syllabus scared them off! Take notes, do the homework, and you'll be fine on exam day. He is quite helpful! Unlike some other professors, he rewards attempting a problem, and not just the right answer. Good sense of humor too. Recommended!
One midterm, one final. Writes all the notes you need on the board. Notes based on textbook (which really isn't necessary to buy). Very funny. Homework is based on lecture notes, but you need to know how to apply the concepts to get good homework grades. Highly Recommended.
His speech is full of humor. His notes is very clear, including everything. Although I never took any economic courses,I can understand everything in his class. A very helpful couse.
This is the man to take for Intermediate Macroeconomics. He's one of those professors that is not only an excellent teacher but actually wants his students to learn something. If you like economics you'll love him, if you don't like economics he'll teach you to respect it. He's also a humorous character, like egotistical French guy kinda funny.
lectures and notes are clear, hardly uses the book, witty, soft-spoken, tough grader. you will walk away from this class with exactly what you put in. you will not be able to wing the midterm, so make sure to study. tests are essay-style and harder than the homework.
He's a good guy. Entertaining for sure. Be warned that he's a shill for Keynesian points of view. He barely touched on classical theory. Just a heads up.
Everything in the class is provided in his organized, structured notes. Book is not needed. He has a very dry sense of humor. Wants his students to learn. Exams are definitely challenging so studying is required. Overall a great professor! Take him if you have the chance!
Excellent Professor, one of CSUF's best. His notes are very extensive making the book an optional read. He is always willing to answer questions and is VERY knowledgeable; also very funny. He does have kind of a hard-on for Keynes lol.
His class is fun and time flies by fast. Professor's notes are very clear. Sometimes he will tell historic stories of Economists that will have you laughing hysterically. Be warned that his exams are heavy duty - midterm & final! Exams are challenging, several levels higher than what is on the notes.
Good teacher. Rarely used the book, so it was pointless to buy. Class consisted mainly of lecturing and note taking. Exams are challenging but he was lenient with grading. 40% Mid term, 50% Final Exam and 10% Homework is what the grade structure was. Very knowledgeable and overall great professor. Recommended!
Note are awesome. Don't waste your money on the book. Class is kind of boring, but you will learn a lot if you pay attention and copy the stuff he writes on the blackboard. Syllibus seems intimidating at first, but it is really not that bad.
Easy class. This is an Intermediate macroeconomics class. Pay attention in class, take notes, ask questions, and you'll come out with an A. Book is helpful b/c teacher follows textbook structure. Not necessary, but recommended to supplement, if you want that A of course. Overall, good economics teacher from experience.
Fleissig is an awesome Econ teacher. DON'T buy the book, he writes all important info out on the board, which really helps. Tests are essay style but he is somewhat lenient on grading. He has a quirky, dry sense of humor and is rather odd but don't let that deter you. He teaches in an easily digestable manner, take his class if you want to learn!
This Professor is Great! all his notes are written on the board but it is so much better because it makes you really learn instead of just looking at the powerpoint. His Tests are also not bad as long as you try out the questions, he will give you partial points.
Difficult exams, you must really understand the concepts he explains when he lectures. Skip the lectures at your own peril. The homework he assigns is actually very helpful to understanding the material; sort of like a take home quiz.
I took this class during the summer so it was a faster pace. This was the second time i took the class and got a B. Professor Fleissig has a funny sense of humor, I think his british accent makes his jokes funnier. Make sure to do all the homework given out in class because it is very similar to the test. Do not need to buy book.
He is hilarious, however, if you're like me, and SUCK at Econ, you will struggle with him. Went to every class, did all the in class assignments, and got a D. Tests are way harder than the in class assignments. Some people got 98% on the tests, but if you're bad at Econ, good luck.
A great professor. He is very thorough in his explanations, and his enthusiasm and occasional doses of humor make the class great. If you don't like econ, he won't make you like it, but you might learn something- and if you do like econ, you'll find a great professor who will teach you a lot.
No laptops and cellphones! He does it the old-school way. Board and a writing tool. Take really good notes, ask questions. The notes you take have to be thorough and well-written to memorize and study/grasp the concepts for his written tests. Word answers. Great teacher, as others have said you may not fall in love with it, but it's a dry class.
Prof. Fleissig is a very interesting professor. He is helpful and tries as much as possible to make the class fun. I like his sense of humor which can be strange at times. Exams are written, and you HAVE to explain your answers and apply theories learned in class. I worked my butt off and ended up with an A. He is fair, I would take him again!
great professor! his exams are a bit tricky...I was never able to understand some of the questions being asked on the exam as there were possibilities for more than one answer. but over all great professor...would take again.
This professor was chill. No cell phones or laptops during class. He writes everything on the board and uses the textbook. He has a great sense of humor and funny at times. He gives handouts and reviews for each exam.
He is a great professor. To get an A, you have to really study and understand the concepts. I worked really hard and studied countless hours to receive an A in the class. Attend every class, take good notes, and study them well. When he tells you he's "letting you out of class early to study", take his advice if you want an A.
Best professor ever! Need to attend class to get an A, but don't worry he will keep you interested. Grade is based on three exams. Tests aren't really difficult because you get most of the points for just understanding what the question is asking. If you want the highest grades on the exam be sure to read every question thoroughly :) .
Keeps lectures interesting. Writes everything you need to know on the board. Exams are very hard but he grades very easily
He may be a knowledgeable professor but when it comes to personality he can be cold and unwilling to spend time outside of class reiterating material. Not recommended for students who enjoy getting to know their professors.
i took this guy and made a big mistake. although he doesnt use any textbook, his notes are of no help. he will test you on the stuff that he did not cover. i studied my butt for all the exams and ended a C
The class is difficult. Prof. Fleissig is really helpful if you ask for help. Make sure to take notes & if you can, try to read the book as well. His notes wouldn't help if you don't practice applying it to real-life scenarios. His exams are all appliation of Macroeconomic theory. He is really funny & has a good sense of humor. I'll miss his class.
this guy teaches ok but his exams are totally different. it looked like someone else prepared the exams bcuz his lectures were nothing that he taught. his exams are short answers so be prepared to study. overall a bad experience.
Want an A? Take good note, word by word, do it every class. understand the factors behind every graphs and which factors moves which line in which direction and why. Exams are short answer, dont curve. Special mention that he is one of the top econ professor in the Country. trys to make joke every class, but sometime no one got them.
Spring '14. He speaks very monotone and jokes are kind of dry. Topic in general isn't all that interesting, or easy, and he does take that into consideration when he grades. Only tests, no hw. Only used the book like once. He writes all his notes on the board. Explains topics well, but doesn't really answer students' questions well.
TAKE NOTES. MAKE A FRIEND in CLASS or you'll miss out on a chunk coz the Prof rarely gives stuff from the textbook. He's really really sweet and has a great smile. Haha. You'll do pretty good if you just study a little. focus on your notes. He even is graceful with marks and not stingy, so don't go begging for more, makes you look bad!
I didn't have a good experience with this guy, everything was fine up until the exams which were different than what he had lectured on. I felt he was a little deceptive and had an aura of cynicism or contempt for his students. His exams were tricky and he incorporated concepts that he did not cover in his thorough lectures.
I did not like him at all, he seemed okay at first up until his first exam. It was tricky and featured concepts he didn't really cover. I felt he was intentionally deceptive and misleading on his exams. I am not sure how I passed the class but it came down to the wire.
On exams, he asks things that are different from the lectures. Even the view for exams do not really help because he ask something else on the test. I wish he could give some hints that what will be on the exam. He's a nice guy tho.
He's a nice guy, but he doesn't really let you know what is on the exam. He also doesn't use titanium, so you'll never what going on with your grade. There is also only three exams, and that is it. If you do poorly on any of those exams, you can probably forget it and go home.
Best econ prof and very helpful to students. Study class notes and you will do well. Tests are based on class notes. He is very funny.
Prof Fleisig is a great teacher who is enthusiastic and funny!!! The class average is a B so those who complain did not study enough. His tests challenge you to apply the theory to learn economics and he grades fairly. You will work hard in his classes.
Fleissig is a really good prof and holds students accountable which is what I needed. He made me laugh in class. He gives class problems, study guide and real world examples. He tests are challenging but if you study you will do good and class average is B.
One of my favorite professors, although I may be biased as an Econ major. NO POWERPOINTS so attend class and take good notes. It's not suited for macro Econ anyway since it's heavily reliant on graphs, math, and sequential logic - which is better explained by hand. Professor Fleissig does so perfectly with delightfully dry humor as a bonus.
Great Professor. I took him over summer. Very forgiving when it comes to grading. Gives partial credit. Very simple and clear lectures. Overall, one of the best econ professors that I've ever had. Focus on notes and practice the problems until your head hurts.
Made Econ 315 enjoyable and understandable. Take him if you can.
Prof Fleissig is a great and enthusiastic teacher. Funny and nice guy. He will challenge you to do better. Somehow he always seem to know if you slack off. Study class notes and problems and you will learn a lot.
Handwritten notes, no laptops or cellphones-- I much rather prefer this method because he explains it after you finish writing everything. & he also color codes lines on the graph, which makes everything easier to follow (for me at least)! His exams are based only on his notes & his final was not cumulative. Highly recommend Professor Fleissig!!
Just graded by exams, 2 midterms and final. No homework. Exams are not cumulative, study the class problems for exam, they're really close to what is on the exam. Exams have like 4/5 problems on them, make sure to know the graphs as well. Exam 1&2 are worth 30% each, 35% non cumulative final, and 5% if you print class problems in 1st week. No book
He is a good professor, his lectures are easy to follow and he is entertaining. However, his test are a little bit different to what he goes over in class and there is only 5 or 6 questions, so if you get one wrong you are done!! Because is 30 points. Anyways aside from that if Econ is your major I would recommend to take his class.
I'm glad I took this course with Fleissig. He doesn't use PowerPoints, so it is easy to follow along with him as he is lecturing. He fully prepares you for his exams, but it is up to you to review your notes and be prepared. He asks for your feedback in the middle of the semester to make adjustments to the class where needed. Take him!
Dry lectures, but very informational. Easy to understand. The key to passing this class is writing everything that he writes on the board. Make sure to always review notes because it really helps in exams. :) You can't pass without going to class, you must attend! Grades are all based on exams. 1 extra credit.
Prof Fleissig is great. Very funny and wants you to do well in class. You have to come to class and study. I laughed every class. Really helpful.
I took his class over the Summer. The subject seemed easy as he went over the basic concepts on each chapter, but his exam problems are much more complicated application, and he barely prepares you for them. Forget practice problems--they're nothing like the test. Read and do all the problems in the textbook even the ones that he did not cover.
tbh if econ is not your passion, i suggest not to take him, he is a great professor though. Lectures notes were easy to follow through but when it comes to exams omg it was a whole different story because it was short answers and more complicated compare to his class problem and notes.
Prof. Fleissing is definitely knowledgeable in economics. He taught it well and was easy to understand. 5 tests and he drops the lowest (not the final though). I took him for summer and towards the end he kinda rushed and gave us 4 tests in two weeks. His tests are similar to his notes, but he throws curve balls in there that are hard to figure out
I took professor Fleissig in summer 2018 and it was the best Econ class I've ever taken. He didn't use powerpoints; instead he wrote everything on the board. Make sure to copy down what he wrote because it was really useful for the tests. Textbook was optional. There were 5 tests and he dropped the lowest one. Highly recommended.
Very VERY hard exams.... great teacher though. I don't know why, but his exams are nothing like what he tells you to study for. I dont know why he does this, as it undermines him as a teacher... Very difficult class.
HARD CLASS.... His tests are ridiculously difficult. He will add little tweaks from classwork/problems that sound easy but totally throw you off and you are left choiceless in the exam... Great teacher and explainer though... Would not recommend as there are easier teachers, whilst you are still learning the same work.
Professor Fleissig is a great instructor and very funny! His test average is a B which was my grade. If you dont study and dont go to class the tests seem difficult but they are not. A lot of his test questions come straight from his class problems and extra problems. His standard is way higher than most classes I have taken.
Excellent econ prof with an eccentric yet great since of humor. His lectures are incredibly thorough and have taught me a lot. Tests are difficult but his notes are more than sufficient so no book needed. Review the notes and class packets well and you should be prepared. Class consists of 3 tests so if you're a weak tester then re-consider.
Professor Fleissig is very clear and thorough when it comes to explaining all the concepts in macro, but his exams are not reflective of what we are taught in class. His class is really tough and I would recommend reading the book even though it's not mandatory. I would not recommend taking 320 with him.
It was a very tough class, so you must attend every lecture! His notes cover everything you'll need to know for the exam. Although exams are hard as long as you know some of the material and write complete sentences it should be enough to get a C. His study guides and in class examples are what you'll need to study. Exams are free response. GLHF
Fleissig doesn't put his lectures online, so attendance is required if you want to pass. The lectures themselves are dry, but topics are explained well and are usually covered multiple times over several class periods if the material is particularly tough. 5 non-cumulative exams, no homework. Do his practice tests to do well on exams.
Fleissig was one of the best professors I've taken throughout my college career. He explains concepts very well and you can see the effort he's put in to developing his style of teaching this course. This classes breakdown is 95% test and 5% for free, and all of his tests are short answer problems that force you to critically think and solve.
I would avoid this professor if I could. He's a good professor and you do learn but he is a tough grader. You really have to work for your grade and there are easier professors to take for 320.
He's a great professor overall and teaches well. Don't get the textbook. It wasn't needed. His exams are from the lectures. He provides some extra credit. There is no homework. There are 3 midterms and a final. The final is non cumulative.
Really great professor as long as you actually show up and pay attention. Really strict about no phones/computers out during class but it actually helps to focus in my opinion. He gives you all the materials you need to pass his test (ie in-class problems you solve together & practice tests you can do before the midterms/final).
Makes micro super easy to understand. Great teacher. However for exams, questions can be convoluted. Not straightforward at all. Might know the material, but the questions are phrased differently. Make sure to study EVERYTHING he teaches before each midterm. He gives extra problems before an exam but don't mistake these for a study guide.
Very unfair grading scale due to COVID-19 where only the first exam and final were counted + the slightest amount of extra credit. He struggled using Zoom switching over to online instruction, making class content even more difficult to understand. The study guide he provided didn't pertain much to what was on exams. No technology allowed in class.
Professor is super sweet. This class is tough so just ask him to record lectures and review all class lectures. Practice the extra problems and overall, just review notes daily. He cares about his students so dont be afraid to ask for her. Recommend him.
You MUST show up for class as he goes over the PowerPoints in class and you fill out the slides as he goes. No Homework. 3 exams including the final which is noncumulative. Exams: 95% of grade, Online/Canvas Quizzes: 5%. He really knows his stuff and wants his students to learn and pass.
wants you to pass
Took this class thinking it was going to be easy but oh boy was I wrong. This class is difficult and you really have to focus and work hard to pass this class. Professor wants you to pass and is a great professor. There is no electronics and the exams are free response.
3 tests & quizzes, no homework, no extra credits. I do appreciate that the professor took out the lowest test score near the end of the semester w/o that I don't think I would have passed. It's a very challenging class and it makes you think in terms of the general idea. Don't expect this to be an easy A class.
Although the professor himself is decent, this class is very difficult. The class is very lecture-heavy and kind of dull. There were 3 exams and he drops your lowest score. Each exam is free response based and usually only consists of 4 questions so if you do badly on one question, you're already at a C. The quizzes are also extremely difficult.
The class is extremely test heavy and they're all short answers. The class is very lecture heavy, and attendance is mandatory since he doesn't post the notes online. Oftentimes, the professor would be unprepared and the students would end up correcting his own PowerPoint slides.
Not a difficult class. Took his summer Econ 335 class decent work was needed to pass. Lecture attendance matters! He won't post it online. Based your grades off of 2 exams (midterm and final) and one paper. If you aren't good at tests this class might not be the best for you.
Attendance isn't mandatory but his lectures fill out the PowerPoint and aren't posted online so if you miss class you will fall behind (don't miss). The class is difficult but he tried to help you understand the material. The quizzes are hard but there are only 3. There are 2 tests + final, he will drop the lowest quiz/test to help your grade.
Took him for ECON-335 over the summer and loved every bit of it. Told you exactly what to know and explained everything needed to understand the content. Mind you I had failed the class before with another professor. Graded by only 3 things which was the midterm, final and term report.
Incredibly brilliant man
No homework and no projects. There are only two midterms and one non-cumulative final. Lectures are easy to understand, but the notes are mostly filled in. I recommend attending all lectures, what he teaches shows up on the exams almost exactly. Study the extra practice problems. Exams are all open-ended, not m.c., just like the in-class problems.
The exam review covered key concepts, but the examples used in class relied on "nice" numbers that didn't match the exam's complexity. With no homework or quizzes, you're left to self-study. The professor doesn't work through problems, just uses pre-broken-down slides, and repeats himself if asked for help, making it hard to grasp the material.
Entire class is based on three exams. Full lecture can only be obtained if you actually attend class. At the end of each chapter, he provides practice problems which he goes through step-by-step. Exams are quite harder than practice problems, but really tests how well you understood the concept. Always willing to help, great professor.
