Mr Havas is one of the best English professors at CCSN. He made retuning to school fun and exciting. He makes you work you butt off on essays, and makes you use that thing in your head called a brain. But, I am so glad to have had him for english. Mr Havas.. you are the best!!!
I admire this professor. His teaching is the best
No Comments
he is very laid back but does have a passion for the subj. has alot experience but does not demand much from a student. its basically upto you if you want to learn and succeed . he does his part only and prances in the room usually a little late teaches and then leaves. very accessible nad understanding. hes fair.
I took his Eng 101, and now his 102. He is a funny guy, and yes he does prance around! That is just how he is. Thank you Mr. Havas
He's awesome.
He is the best. A bit dramatic, but he would not be himself if he was not just that.
He is a nice professor, I enjoyed his class. I took him for 101 & 102, so he must be good.
I really like Mr. Havas. Be warned though is usually abut 10 minutes late, and though he does not "prance" as some raters state below ,he paces, a lot. We wrote 4 papers and he lets you revise them for a full grade increase. He seems lenient on attendance but then I didn't really push it (3 abs). He dresses like an English teacher should.
Mr Havas is awesome. He's very laid back. He says he takes attendence but he doesn't, try to attend often though he notices when u don't come a lot. He lets you rewrite the papers if it's not an A paper. he's very clear in what he wants from you. No exams!! Only about 4 papers due throughout the class. Take him he's great!
I think that the way he computes the grades is questionable.
Awesome teacher pretty laid back. i agree with the few below except this sem we have done like 7 or 8 papers. i have a friend in an honors class and we've done twice the papers as her. but havas is an awesome guy!
I took his class for ENG 102. The homework was usually pretty easy to understand. The lectures could be rather dull at times. He's a nice guy. I wouldn't take him again though.
Nice guy, pretty fair. You can tell this guy was a partier in his day, sort of a liberal free spirit... this explains why he can be a little unorganized at times, but just keep all the graded papers he hands back in case he forgets to record the grade. Easy A if you pay attention and attend class almost every day.
Nice laid back guy. Easy on grading. About 4-6 papers/assignments/complaint letters etc. Mixes up assignments so your not just writing a bunch of boring 8 page research papers. Our class did resumes, complaints, narritive, one research paper, and a couple other little ones. Would recemmend to others
Pretty good and laid back professor! The essay topics were a bit difficult, but other than that the class is fun. Lots of movies.
He's ok. I took him online and he was current on the discussions and then it seemed like the discussions fell through. He doesn't really update that much to tell us what is due. Other than that, laid back, only 3 essays, a revisions portfolio, and a final. He replies to your emails pretty fast too.
He is a great teacher, very informative and interesting class. Highly recommended, three essays and no final exam. Pretty easy and he lets you revise papers one time for a higher grade. He is one of the better teachers at CSN.
I agree with the others, he is laid back, but TOO laid back, he's always late to class, didnt show up sometimes and gets way off topic during the lectures. but he is nice and funny, and if you want an easy grade take this class, its a bit boring sometimes and make sure to keep all your assingments because sometimes he screws up the grading,
Mr. Havas is a good teacher. Too laid back. There's nothing wrong with that and he would come to class 5-10 min late; only thing I didn't like. Do your readings, take the quizzes and do your final paper and you'll be fine. Make sure to keep all the assignments you do because he doesn't keep track of what you turn in sometimes. Easy A.
Great class-Professor Havas keeps the subject interesting and easy if you do the assignments.
great class. i would definitely recommend professor havas.
Professor Havas was amazing. I took him for Western Literature and was highly impressed by him. He is extremely passionate and proud of the west. He dresses like a professor should, and is seemingly attractive. The material is great, and the class is fun. I would take him again.
Very relaxed professor! He keeps the class going, even if people dont feel like talking! The writing assignments are effortless and he can tell if you're bs-ing assingments. Complete the readings, participate in class discussions and you're good!
Okay, Professor Havas is hot. Take him not only because he is smart, but because he is too good looking.
Very good professor. He is very funny and our class always had great discussions. But don't take him if you don't like writing. Essays are the majority of the grade. Not an easy A.
Prof. Havas is fair and easy going.Took summer online class, lots of reading but overall a good class. Gives review for midterm and final that were very helpful. Loved the class!
Adrian's class was a great learning tool. He like to give you personal stories of his time as a writer which I find as helpful as any out of the book lecture. He gave out short writing assignments at least once a week if not twice a week. He would proof read the papers and then note what you should edit and then you had to re turn in the paper whic
great teacher .
Took online summer course. Two writing assignments (3pagers), Midterm, Final, and 5 discussion boards. Gave study guides for the tests, that were essentially the questions on the exams. Felt he graded fair (if not easy) on the writing assignments. Would definitely take a course again with him.
easy going shares self exp.
great class
Cool and laid back teacher. Only had to do 3 main papers. Really helpful when you ask questions.
Really good class. Professor is great, had him for Journalism and English 102. Has 3 essays for English with no tests, just pay attention to his lectures and show up in class and your fine. The class was very informative, learned a lot about writing styles. Professor Havas keeps you up to date on current news and makes the class fun. Great class.
I took his online 8 week summer course, and there is a lot of reading! Two essay's, a midterm, and final. The first essay you can resubmit after he makes the first assessment, for a better grade. He gives you a study guide for the tests, which is a huge help with all the reading required. Replies fairly quickly to emails.
There was a lot of writing in his classes, a variety of different papers, group editing sessions, and a lot of discussions. He's a really nice guy and pretty helpful. He made class interesting!
Took class online and it was good. Lots of reading, study guide for midterm, 8 discussion questions, 3 essays, and 2 test. Lets you re write the first essay for a better grade. Gives you his lecture notes as well. Overall, good class to take online.
Took his Detective Fiction class for eng 223. Easy class, easy A and you actually learn a ton. His notes are amazing. You read three novels and a short story. Read a lot of his lectures and watch a bunch of films. Two exams, Two big essays (lets you rewrite the first one) and a few discussions. Definitely recommend
He was an alright teacher in the beginning, but would NEVER reply to any of my emails. It also seemed like he was new to ANGEL because the tabs were never linked up, making it almost impossible to follow the rubric. Take his classes in person...NOT ONLINE!
Class in general was fair. Professor always responded to my emails if I ever had questions. He tries to keep class interesting & fun, laid back class. He is a tough grader But does allow u to revise essays for a better grade. If you attend class everyday & revise ur essays u will do fine.
Professor is very good at finding grammatical errors in the papers and very fair about rewriting to omprove upon your grade. Learned alot. Be prepared political liberalism injected throughout classes.
Great professor.
Mr. Havas is a great teacher and scores fair. He is a bit sarcastic at times but a very respectful person just listen to his directions and attend class and you will do good.
Dull and boring class. We only had to write 3 essays for the entire semester, each 3-5 pages max in MLA format and we read The Great Gatsby. He allows you to re-write your essay, but you can only go one grade up i.e. if you get a C- you can only go up to a B-. He's a strict grader so make sure you essay is well written (go to the writing center).
I took "Detective Fiction and Film Noir". Professor Havas was very fair. His lectures are thorough, and he is available to help if you need it. The final exam was a breeze, and through a study guide he gives you clues on what to study. Intelligent and humorous professor. Great class, fun and I learned a lot!
I took this class as on online summer class. There were discussion posts, 2 essays (one of which you can resubmit for a 10% increase on your grade), and a 35 question final. Prof. Havas gave me great feedback and I really enjoyed the class! I would def recommend taking his class!
3 essays, discussions every 2 weeks, & study guide for midterm and final. This online course felt almost absent for lacking reminders, plus the discussions were only worth 2 pts. He did sometimes come off as sarcastic in his comments, though h is okay. Also, the essay topics come from the lectures and reading material.
He does allow for resubmissions on essays, but unless you earn an "A" in at least one essay, you may not get better than a "B" for the semester. I got a "B," but I really enjoyed the class, American Detective and Film Noir, and I feel I learned from it. Mr. Havas is very helpful. Although, there is no grading matrix on essays, which is weird.
Most awesome English Professor ever!
Very easy class with lots of interesting reading. The papers require some effort, but you get to revise the first one. The rest of the course work is easy and he gives you study guides for the midterm and final. Takes a long time to grade assignments.
I'd recommend this teacher if you are good in English, don't need much help. Hes nice and easy going. Easy class!
Fairly easy class. There are 4-5 essays usually around 3 pages long. The book is "required," but we only used it a couple of times in class. If you want a higher grade on your essay you can resubmit it one week after he gives it back to you for one letter grade higher if you make the corrections. I didn't actually learn anything in the class though
He is a Cool professor. Only had to wrote 3 essays. He grades hard, but he let's you re-write it for a better grade. The reading assignment Fight Club is pretty awesome.I recommend his class.
Profssor Havas is a pretty cool guy - easy to work with. He has his online class laid out well and in order. I took his ENG 223 summer course (8 wks). We had 5 discussion posts (and 2 comments), 2 essays, and 1 final. You get to watch some cool movies, read some interesting stories and you do not have to agree with him to get full credit on essays.
A lot of reading but most of the material was interesting and not too painful. I didn't read every work honestly and did fine. About every 2 weeks there is a discussion post, and there are only 2 essays to do, and the first one has corrections to better your grade. He is great at pointing out what he likes in your writing instead of tearing it up.
Several discussion posts, a final, and two papers. Overall, I really enjoyed Professor Havas' American Detective Fiction and Film Noir class. It helps if you're interested in classic movies and detective novels to begin with, but Havas's lectures help engage you if you're not. He definitely loves and knows this genre, so take this class seriously.
Instructor is very PASSIONATE about this subject. You can clearly see he has a diverse background in English and publication, which allows him to make an otherwise dull class, fun to attend. He also realizes that our mediums of learning have shifted to videos and online, so he does not expect us to read 8 books in the semester.
There's a lot of reading in this class which is expected but, let me tell you it's well worth it. You will learn. I was nervous at the beginning of the class and personally enjoyed it in the end. He chose a great selection of stories to read, which I truly appreciate. Professor Havas answered all of my questions quickly and is extremely helpful. I am so glad I took him.
Overall Professor Havas was mediocre. He doesn't follow the syllabus and his final didn't match the lectures. All the books were great, and most have a movie he will show with it. 2 essays you can rewrite for a higher grade. 1 assignment and there are supposed to be 2 exams. He wasn't a bad teacher, but he could do better.
Probably the most unorganized teacher I've ever dealt with, just do yourself a favor and take another class
He isn't very strict and will accept later work. He is kind of disorganized, but he is overall a decent professor. It isn't hard to pass his class and he will work with you to help your grade.
Good professor that does well in letting students know what he expects from them. I took his online 8 week course over the summer. You'll need the books for homework. There were 5 discussions, 2 essays, midterm and final. He can be a tough grader sometimes but he tries to help you through it. The test are simple but can also be tricky.
Discussions are easy, papers are easy. Write them both well and make sure you show you know what you're talking about. He takes forever to grade assignments. Not a lot needs to be done. A lot of time in between assignments. Taking his for Eng 232.
Prof. Havas was okay. he was not strict of homework and did not grade heavily. the problem is that his assignments are unclear and only gives you one week to work on an essay. His grading is unclear and he tries to change your essays when it's not even wrong :/ i would not choose him again
Prof. Havas isnt that bad. He accepts late work and is a fair grader. He gives good feedback on the essays. There are 2 essays, for the first essay he lets you rewrite for a higher grade. The discussion posts make sure to write out a good paragraph. Other than that he just takes awhile to grade assignments.
I took Professor Havas for both 102 and 223, meaning, I found him to be an extremely good teacher. He can be a bit all over the place at times but at the end of the day he is an amazing professor. His classes aren't too hard but he gives you enough time to prepare for the test/papers/etc. Take him!
Professor was late to class. Expressed his political views, not appropriate for the class subject. Is disorganized. Grading criteria not clear.
Professor Havas is really approachable, easy class, discussion with the class a few writing assigments
I love literature but this is by far the worst class I have taken. Professor Havas does not know how to organize his online classroom. His grading criteria is unclear but he seems to give anything an A. This class is not in anyway challenging. Most of the class are discussions 2 whole points each. Did not find his feedback useful to any extent.
Havas is a great professor but he could do better. His lectures aren't boring and he tries to get the class to participate. He has basic classroom rules but other than that, he's pretty lenient. BUT HIS GRADING. He is very detailed about what he wants in an essay but follow his instructions and you'll do fine.
Professor Havas was a great and easy going professor. His ENG232 Film Noir class was fairly easy. He always responds to messages fairly quick and will answer questions to the best of his ability. If you're looking for a fairly easy course to fulfill a requirement, you wouldn't go wrong by taking his class.
Nice professor always willing to help with any issue you may have. You will have 2 essays which account for most of your grade (if you do not get an A on both you must likely will not get an A in the class), 2 exams these are not easy at all so study everyone on study guild and more, discussions weekly. overall great teacher though!
Nice guy but he was late for class about 85% of the semester. He is unorganized. He is not clear with his essay instructions, they become clear over a course of 2 or 3 classes. His system of grading essays is irregular. I strongly recommend him to take a Time Management and Organization Skill class.
Really good guy and Prof. Sometimes his lectures are a little scatter brained but it's not bad for your grade cause he gives you really useful study guides. He's the kind of Prof. i wouldn't mind being friends with outside of school. Great feedback on papers plus he lets you redo them for a nice grade boost. Fun and relaxed class structure.
Havas is a good professor - he's approachable and gives detailed feedback on your essays. It is a little bothersome when he's late and when the class does not follow the syllabus schedule, but overall it is an easy and relaxing class - especially when you put a lot of work into your essays since he's a tough grader with writing.
Took this Holocaust and Genocide class online and really enjoyed the material. In this class get ready to read, A LOT! multiple discussion posts, two essays and a midterm and final. You must read all notes and prepare for the exams or you will have a hard time passing. Professor Havas was always willing to help and meet in office. Great Class!
Hard grader would not reccommend if you are looking for an easy A lol
I took his Detective Fiction & Film Noir class, an interesting subject. The coursework is 5 discussions with a makeup one possible, 2 essays and the first one you get to revise for a letter grade more, and a final. The discussions are nice. You don't need to respond to people. He is strict on essays though and isn't 100% clear with what he wants.
ENG 223 - Banned Books. PROs ( Lenient Class, Open Notes Exams, Flexible Topics to choose from, Interesting discussions). CONs (Documentaries, Randomness Factor, Strict Essay's) ***Treat Class as ENG 101 if you want an A, Correct MLA Format, Punctuations and Grammar ***Getting A's in essays is just using lots of quotations and research citations.
A lot of reading, easy short essays every other week, 2 large essays are pretty hard, midterm and final exams are pretty easy if you use the study guides
Not a fan of this professor. This is more of a history class than an English Lit class. the books you have to read are almost an after thought in the class. TONS of videos and movies, lots to read (not novels, just historical information) the novels are ok, lots of discussions on history, two papers, midterm and final. VERY unorganized generally
If you take him be prepared for him to get off topic ALOT. You have easy little mini assignment and only 3 major papers. which he lets you rervise two of them. He hardly uses the book. It is an easy course. He also does not put grades into the grade book during the semester, he waits until final grades are due.
easy grader if you take your paper to the writing center he offers extra credits and multiple opportunities for extra points on essays and revising essay he gives plenty of time. when we did not talk about essays in class you're just reading
It was a mediocre class, nothing special.
Clear guidlines on how to get a good grade. The professor is easy to reach as well in regards to questions and concerns, and very understanding. Overall a great class. I would take again.
I took an 8 week English class which was crammed together but it consisted of 6 discussions, an essay and a final exam! Due to it being an 8 week class it was sort of rushed but I loved the discussions and seeing movies and reading books about spies which I wouldnt have been interested if it wasnt for this class! Great professor!
This is probably one of my favorite courses. but it was great. I loved learning about everything, and going back and fourth with the professor about characters. and this class was extremely easy, there was a couple of quick books to read but mostly we watched many films. Watch a movie, or read a book, and write about your opinion on it!
His class doesn't require a textbook. All the answers are on quizlet. He replies to his emails within a few hours. He changes assignment due dates so everyone has a chance to turn it in, redo it. He is very considerate. He doesn't hold lectures. His assignments are mostly watch movies and take quizzes based off the movies.
Textbooks are required (three total). I can tell he's a good professor, but I don't know if online courses suit him. There is online meetings available but they aren't consistent nor are they recorded - so don't rely on those. The material used for the course is quite mature and requires tolerance for intense films and novels. Be prepared to work!
This was easily the most incompetent professor I have ever had! His lectures consist of rambling, he gives the worst exams I have ever taken, and worst of all, for my class he taught the wrong course! He taught the 8-week course instead of the 16-week course, and then tested us three days after realizing his mistake! Absolutely crazy! Don't take!
I took the 8 week spies and espionage course. Honestly, not tons of work for an 8 week class. Basically just watched a bunch of movies and wrote about the characters. Some of the movies are rated R or super disturbing, so beware if that isn't your jam. Loved the homework honestly, and he gives good feedback. One essay, a final, and discussions.
He was nice, he gave really good feedback and assignments were a breeze. I took his 8-week espionage class, and most of the homework was watching movies. You're graded on few things though, so you CANNOT miss any assignments. The biggest complaint, he's the SLOWEST grader. Took almost 5 weeks to grade my essay. Thankfully he gave me an A.
Spies and espionage. Three short books to read. At least five movies to watch. Read the book, watch the movie, discussion post. Repeat. Your paper is due at the end of the semester. This really sums up the majority of the class. Quite easy. Nice teacher.
I like his feedback, but he's better suited for an in person class. Assignment's due dates were set to the previous semester so we had to do searching for the correct due dates and wait until they were unlocked, feedback on the essay took a bit, there was 1 essay and 2 big exams (final and mid) as well as some discussion posts. Lots of reading.
hes a slow grader. 2 essays. one revise and second you can't. study guide that isn't helpful to final. 5 discussion. 1 make p discussion. a lot of reading and watching disturbing and weird movies.
8-week course. He assigns movies and books to read/watch for the week. At the end of the week, you will have to answer a discussion post about the movie or book of the week. You might not need to read at all, which I enjoyed. 2 essays, you can write about one the movies for each. Complete every assignment, there is not very many. Easy class.
He submitted our class's final grades (at the last minute, no notice) without grading the last discussion. When I asked why, he said the discussion never existed (???). He seldom responds to messages, NOT tech savvy, and he will not admit to his mistakes. Whenever I had struggles in this class, he shrugged his shoulders. Don't take this class.
slowest grader on planet earth.
Final was very very detailed as if he actually expected us to memorize every detail of every book and film we saw. The study guide doesn't cover the exam fully at all, so don't rely on it alone. If you want an A, stay away. P.S: no one in the entire class got above 85% in the first essay.
Good professor who provides helpful feedback on assignments like Essays and Discussion posts. You do have to read a lot but that is to be expected from any literature class. Tests are 25-35 questions long and usually only take 2 the entire 8wks. If you stay up to date with assignments the class is a breeze and enjoyable.
Professor Havas was very laid back. He does like to get the class involved when he lectures. He always made sure we understood things before we moved on to the next topic. He gives good feedback on essays. The only thing I will say is he does not respond to emails in a timely manner. I would take him again. He is a very interesting character.
Professor Havas gave great feedback on essays as well as discussion posts. He also allowed you to rewrite your essays correcting it with the feedback he provided. Attendance is mandatory, he gives lectures throughout the entire time. Very easy and chill class/professor. Easy A tbh
This prof's class is an easy A if you're willing to watch a bunch of films and write about them. The workload is light, but he takes forever to grade. Definitely use Unstuck AI and other tools to breeze through the assignments.
His class is okay at best, lectures are long and seem unprepared. He is quite rude to be frank and is generally not the most respectful professor I have encountered. He almost never gives 90-100% on essays and will doc points for small grammatical errors even if there are few. If you are looking for an easy A, I would look somewhere else.
Easy A class, I took his 8-week online class, and it was 1 discussion a week, 4 sentences minimum, no need to reply to other discussions. There is a 3-4 page MLA essay that's easy, and two quizzes(final and midterm), 25-30 questions. There is a book needed, and it's about 50 bucks online at the bookstore, but you can find it for $20 on Amazon.
I took his 8 week ENG232 course this Spring. Let's be real— No matter what, online classes can be difficult. I'd suggest making some sort of class chat by befriending some classmates because sometimes it can get confusing and you guys can give each other some feedback. There's sooooo much reading.. but what do you expect? It's an English class.
Great instructor who knows his subject and gives helpful feedback. The essay is 50% of the grade, not hard, and you get to choose your topic. There are 5 discussions worth 20%, and the midterm/final is 30% together. He responds fast, is funny, accepts late work, and class is easy. I would recommend it if you really like early world literature.
I took his 8 week class because he seemed to have good reviews but the class was NOT easy at all. His syllabus was not clear at all it didn't even include a grading scale. 5 discussion posts 1 midterm 1 final and a Essay that is worth 50% of your overall grade in the class. He is extremely nitpicky with the essay as well. DO NOT TAKE!!!
He is a knowledgeable and passionate English teacher who knows what he is doing. I took the 8-week class, it was challenging, even as a strong writer. Discussions require depth and preparation. There is one essay (50%). He allows corrections—midterm and final, 15% each, and discussions are worth 20%. I wouldn't take this if you struggle to write.
