I'll take him again.
Great professor. Really wants students that show effort to succeed in passing the class. Very good at describing material. Dr. Villalta is there for the students who need his help. I would recommend him always.
I did have to teach myself in this class but the material is not too difficult. He happily helps you when you ask, offers a good amount of extra credit, and it's obvious he wants you to get a good grade. He basically reads the power points that he posts, but the tests are not difficult if you study! I would definitely take the class again.
I think he should spend more time explaining things. The in class worksheets help a lot.
Good professor. He is always willing to help when needed, and really wants every student to pass the class. Tests aren't too bad if you study and review the powerpoints. Overall, I'd recommend Dr. Villalta.
Great Professor overall. Always willing to help. He doesn't get frustrated with his students. Provides quality feedback on assignments. Sincerely wants you do to well in the class.
He has a strong accent. Sometimes hard to understand.
For being his first year teaching, I feel like he did a great job. He is willing to help those who show interest in the class. He is really funny and he gets straight to the point. I was not into chemistry before taking this class. I was dreading it and now I want to minor in it. I would take Dr. Villalta again if he offers Chem 203.
Great professor. He's very understanding and willing to help. Sincerely wants his students to do well in the class. Highly recommend.
has an accent but can easily understand. print out powerpoints to follow along and take extra notes because he goes off his powerpoints. very helpful in lab.
For his first time teaching the class, I believe that he did a great job. He is very helpful and funny at times. He has a slight accent but it is not hard to understand since he reiterates his powerpoints. I would totally recommend this professor.
if you seek help, he will help you. this is not a tough class, but you still have to work for it.
Wants to help his students and is especially helpful in lab. Very soft spoken and has an accent. Tests are super easy because they're multiple choice and 1 short answer essays (need to read the book but the readings aren't too strenuous, you only have to read 15 pages per week. ). Generously curves the Midterms and Final. Offers A LOT of E.C.!!!!
In the beginning, he may come off in a strict way,But he is actually very helpful and provides clear explanations if you ask him for help. Really wants to help out his students pass his class and is very understanding. Don't really have to get textbook. The one thing I did hate was the hw, it was extremely complicated. Tests are ok if you study.
At the beginning I thought he was going to be a harsh teacher, but he is a really cool teacher. He always had a least something funny to say during class, and if you need help in lab or during class he will gladly help you out. He does gives lots of extra credit. I definitely recommend this Dr. Villalta's class, I would take his class again.
At the beginning he may seem like a harsh teacher, but he is a really cool teacher. He gives lots of extra credit, very helpful in class or in lab. He definitely wants his students to pass. I would totally recommend Dr. Villalta, I would take his class again.
Professor Villalta is awesome. At first I thought the class was going to be hard because it was his first time teaching. However, the class turned out to be easy! He grades easily and hands out assignments in a timely manner. If you get "C's" on exams and quizzes, you will have a grade of a "B" bc of so much lab assignments. A lot of extra credit!
A lot of busy work for 1 unit but not too bad, he's very straight forward & Has a lot of extra credit & is organized
At first he seemed mean but as time passed he loosened up and he's a pretty cool teacher. As for Lab reports, as long as you write something for each section required, you'll get a 100. He let us work with our Lab group members for the final, so yeah pretty awesome class.
He really gave me a break in the beginning of the course when I was too sick to attend the first lab. I went to office hours and he was totally cool about letting me stay in the lab and making up the points. He is great in lab, he walks around the class the entire time trying to help students. Gave extra credit. Has a sense of humor.
Awesome professor, understands individual problems and is willing to work with you if you talk to him. Great sense of humor. He walks around class asking if you need help at all times. Very helpful professor. CSUB NEEDS MORE PROFESSORS LIKE THIS GUY! Would definitely take again.
When I started the class I was very intimidated by the professor. He went through the lectures very fast & didn't really explain things. However, as the quarter went on, things got better. He listenedd to our questions & is definitely available if you need help. He's very passionate about the subject.
Dr. Villalta goes quickly through his lectures but he will slow down if he notices his students are not understanding. He has a good sense of humor and shows good visuals in his lectures. His lab work is detailed but he offers extra credit for the overall grade.
He's very clear in what he expects, however when he lectures, he tends to go a little fast. The positive about that is that all his notes are on BB.
Dr. Villalta is a great professor! His lectures go a little fast, but he will stop and explain if you have questions. Lectures are on BB. He shows his sense of humor! During lab and classwork, he walks around to see if anyone needs help & makes sure that we understand the material. He gives extra credit! I would take another class with him again!
He's a really good teacher, his lectures go by really fast but all the notes are online. He answers all questions asked and during lab walks around and offers his assistance all the time. I would recommend taking the class. The homework isn't bad at all, its online and you can do the homework as many time as you need to pass. And he's funny!
Dr. Villata has been one of the best professors I've came across on campus. He does tend to go a little fast on lectures, but he will slow down if you ask him to. Also, all his lectures are online. I would most definitely recommend taking a course with Dr. Villata.
lectures are boring and very long, however they do help on what to expect on the exams. overall very easy class, do the aleks homework and review practice exams and you'll do fine.
He started out the quarter with high standards and lowered them by the end of the quarter. He is very helpful. He is still trying to figure out who he is as a professor.
He is easy going. He outs effort to helping you understand and pass his class.
He knows his material and is young so he makes it fun for us sometimes.
The professor is great. If you need help on something he's willing to help your needs on CHEM. Make sure you do the assessments each week because that's a big part of your grade. Also don't procrastinate on the pie as well. Usage on the textbook is not required, so don't buy it!
He is very helpful and understanding that the program requires a lot of work (completely out of his control). He does his best to make things easier for you and really respects his students. Everything is mapped out in the syllabus so be sure to read it before asking him questions.
He is very knowledgeable, at times I found it hard to hear him even sitting near the front, would be helpful if he had a microphone. At times I found the lectures boring because he was just reading off slides. I would have like more interaction in lecture and have lab correspond to lecture to reinforce concepts. Very helpful during office hours.
He has a super thick accent, but you get used to it. It was his first time teaching this course and it was fairly easy. The hardest part was ALEKS and that has nothing to do with him.
This professor is very intellectual; therefore, he hates dumb questions regarding the tests or the class, not the actual concept of chemistry. He is reasonable and fair when it comes to grading the tests and quizzes. Be sure to study and read the chapters before attending class. Overall, great professor, passionate, enthusiastic and great sarcasm.
he's a great teacher for chem. tests aren't too bad if you study and do the practice exams. he doesn't take any crap from students who aren't there to learn witch is great, so don't worry about those annoying talkers.
Good professor. May come off as arrogant but definitely the opposite. Enjoyed the sense of humor within his lectures.
He's a really good teacher. He can be soft spoken sometimes which gets a little hard to understand him but other than that he's am amazing teacher. He puts the lecture PowerPoint online so you can do the notes before the class.
He's a great professor and keeps things interesting .
You can pass the class without the book, but if you have it might as well us it
Sometimes you will feel class will drag but other than that he makes it fun by getting really excited about the topic and hes very sassy
He's a REALLY nice guy, good at handling silly questions, knows his, and the stuff. I shall take his lab again. I'd like to see him have a bigger function in chem dept.
He's very enthusiastic about chemistry and clearly loves the subject. His lectures are a little long but include examples and prepare you for the tests. Sometimes I felt like I didn't have enough time to work out the examples so I definitely recommend going over the powerpoints at home and working out some of the problems yourself.
This was my final quarter at CSUB and I couldn't be more grateful to have chosen Dr. Cerdas as my chem 211 instructor. PLEASE, do go to him during office hours if you are stuck on ANY portion of the course. No exams during lab (purely online on Blackboard). He's incredibly hilarious & amazed of his aptitude. He is ABOVE a doctorate degree !
Good teacher, explains material fairly well. He is sometimes hard to understand due to his quiet lecture voice; he could benefit from a microphone or speaker.
I took him for the lab portion of CHEM 211 and I'm glad i did because he made the lab so easy. He's not a hard grader and always walked around to asks every group if they need help. All the lab are done in group so choose wisely the first day of class. You have a lab report due every week but he tells you exactly what to write so its not that hard.
Had him for lab, he was a great professor. The lab, personally, wasn't that hard until you had to calculate things near the end, but he's always willing to help. You should definitely take him for the lab.
good proffesor
This professor was really helpful! He gives instructions at the beginning of class, but goes around the room during lab to see if anyone needs help. He is really patient and always willing to answer questions. The lab reports are pretty easy if you follow the guidelines. I highly recommend!
Great professor! His lectures are a bit on the longer side but they are well-organized which makes it easier to understand the material. The only thing that wasn't too great was ALEKS but other than that, I would recommend taking this professor if you really want to learn about chemistry part of chemistry, not the math side.
This is the teacher that will be you will remember for the rest of your life
He's a good professor, sometimes hard to understand since he tends to speak very low. He's not a tough grader, but never gives feedback on lab reports so it made it hard to do better on the upcoming lab reports. Overall, good class and I'd definitely take him again. thumbs up! Make sure to pick your lab partners wisely ;)
This class was particularly tough for me because i suck at chemistry but he is helpful. Sometimes i felt that he would forget that for some of us, this was the first and last chemistry class we needed to take, but i never blamed him, hes just too smart to really dumb things down , but he does try . If you're decent at chemistry, you'll be just fine
Pretty good professor, cracks jokes from time to time during the lectures. Take advantage of office hours if you need help on something!
Expect to pass if you do the ALEKS homework on time, come to class on time and participate. Professor provides his PowerPoint lectures to you in advance for a reason. Print them out or be prepared to take your own notes VERY quickly. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
Great Professor! Tests are pretty easy! Look over the practice tests he puts up! KEEP UP WITH ALEKS! Gives 3 "unannounced" quizzes but tells you when they are, which are all free responses and fairly easy. Easy "A" if you have basic knowledge of chemistry from high school. IF YOU HAVE AN "A" BEFORE THE FINAL EXAM, HE ONLY MAKES YOU DO THE FREE RESPONSE! JUST COME TO CLASS!
Dr. Villalta was probably my favorite chemistry professor to date. He is very organized and is always on top of communicating with his students, whether it be by email or blackboard. He has all of his lectures posted online and he responds quickly to emails when you need help. Def would take him again!!!!!!
My favorite chemistry professor so far. Definitely preferable to Dr. Buschhause. At first he seemed to teach the material too quickly, but once I got used to his pace I enjoyed the class. He really does try to 'teach' you the material rather than just shove it in your face. I respect him and he's a funny guy.
best proffessor ever, as a science professor he is very interactive, motivated and clear. he is very organized
Great class, easy to learn environment, he's organized and clear. There is no reason for anyone to be unsuccessful in his class. His powerpoint lectures tell you everything you need to know for tests. Class attendance is not mandatory. I do recommend this teacher for this course.
I am a pre-nursing student and I needed to take this class as one of my pre-req courses before entering the program. If you have an opportunity to take a class with professor Villalta, I would HIGHLY recommend it because his lectures are very clear and he genuinely cares for his students! Also, his sense of humor keeps the class fun!
He's a really great professor and he wants you to pass. If you have any questions, he wilI surely help you. He is also funny so that will make the class even more entertaining. I definitely recommend him, you will learn a lot in this class if you have him. PS. Never missed his class
At first he seems a little scary, but he's a really good professor. He keeps it real with every student and doesn't blind side you with anything, in terms of testing, labs, etc. In fact, he actually let us know when there would be an "unexpected" quiz. He's awesome, I recommend him!
Great professor. Down to the point same as any other lab yet professor is better!
One of the most enjoyable professors I've had at CSUB. I went in to the course knowing absolutely nothing about chemistry and Professor Villalta was super helpful. As long as you participate you'll pass.
Class is passable as long as you try.
During lectures, he provides you with group work and it makes it fun and the time go by quick. I recommend studying all the material he gives you to study for the exams. For lab, choose partners who are going to put in the effort and not have you do all the work because if not it will make lab reports difficult write even though they are easy.
He is always eager to help and he is very sarcastic which makes him funny!! I would recommend this professor!!
He can be sarcastic at times but in a funny way, he emails back quickly and gives you every opportunity to pass the class. Past exams are posted as reference for upcoming exams.
Great class, fairly easy (:
He is awesome professor for Chemistry Lab 211.
He's a really understanding teacher if you are not the best chemistry student he gives many opportunities to help you out. I struggle with the subject a lot and the extra credit work helped me to understand certain concepts better. I did well in the class because I worked for my grade. That's how his class is. If you work hard you should pass.
Clearly invested in the subject he's teaching. Willing to clarify if a student asks him to. Doesn't like students who don't try to understand or learn. Show up, ask questions, and don't be afraid to visit him for help
Don't buy/rent the textbook! The lecture is thorough and gives you everything you need. Just print it, annotate, and read! Professor is very enthusiastic and shows some real-world applications of the material. He dislikes memorization so on tests he gives you what you need - you just have to understand em and be able to explain in FRQs.
Professor Villalta is the fairest Chemistry teacher I have had. He makes you work for your grade and if you need help he is willing to assist, but you must ask! Having him as a teacher is awesome because he is super funny and takes the edge off of how stressful things can be. I would take again, however the weekly quizzes were my least favorite.
This professor gives you the chance to pass and do good as long as you do the work.
Dr. Villalta is an amazing and inspirational professor. He provides you with all the knowledge that you need to pass the class.
He is clear cut about what he expects of his students. As long as you are not lazy or make excuses, he will make every effort in helping you pass the class. Print out the powerpoints because he moves quickly. I hate chemistry but he gave plenty of assignments that allowed me to balance my low test grades. Passed with a C. Thank you Dr. Vallalta
he is awesome
Dr . Villalta is a very good professor . He provides the class with clear instructions and during lab if we have any questions he tries his best to help us out . Also, every time before beginning class he takes the time to explain the lab procedure . He's always available during office hours . His office hours are very helpful !
He posts the past exams which is REALLY helpful for studying. He takes attendance with an iclicker so if you skip class it will affect your grade. He is passionate about chemistry and will help if you need it. He will help you pass but definitely not an easy A.
Great class. Love his sense of sarcastic humor. Also kind of cute!
Be ready to do ALOT of work! He is an amazing professor that has a passion for what he teaches, however you have to be willing to do the work. Read before class, do the homework for practice and pay attention and ask questions. I did not do so well simply because I tried to work and take on a heavy load of courses. He truly just wants you to try!
