Easiest teacher for math. She is very helpful. She is GREAT!
she was a good teacher but the reviews and tests were pretty difficult. if you study really hard you can get an A
I would reccomend taking Aceves for pre-cal. The material was extremely simple. However, I'm not sure that I was adequately prepared for Calculus even though I made a 98 in Aceves' class.
Great Professor, wants to help and you can constantly tell. You get what you put into this class!
Pretty good overall, but her accent is thick.
She was the easiest math teacher I've had in my college career. She's great! And very helpful too!
Fantastic professor who is always willing to help and get to know her students
Great teacher! Go to office hours, and she will help you. She gives a review for every test. She says if you miss more than 3 classes you fail, but if you go and talk to her she will be understanding.
Extremely nice Professor who cares a lot about her students and wants them to succeed. Has an accent which is why she can be hard to understand sometimes. Her tests are not a walkover but if you do your quizzes sincerely and a few homework sums you will be fine. I would strongly recommend taking her class.
Loved her!! if you dont do well its bc you didnt try! she has an accent, but you get used to it. she is also really helpful, fair on grading, quiz every thursday but all but one was take home.
VERY EASY CLASS. I took Calc BC in high school though. You can use a graphing calculator and unit circle on every test including the final. She has an accent but everyone gets over it in about a week - no big deal really.
Favorite class ever! She's so easy, helpful, and quite funny at times. I was actually excited to go to math for once. I would definitely take any of her classes again.
Not Bad , quizzes every week though , and she take attendance daily
Difficult to follow sometimes, but relatively easy because the quizzes are usually take home and she gives us study guides for the test.
SHE IS A GREAT TEACHER BUT IF YOU ARE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT MIGHT BE DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND SINCE HER ACCENT MAKES IT HARDER TO UNDERSTAND THE CONTENT. HER CLASSES ARE FAST PACED AND MOST OF THE TIME IS NOT THAT YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE CONTENT IS THAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTED WHAT IS SHE SAYING.
Fabulous professor! She is extremely helpful in office hours. If you do the reviews, which the ALEC is extremely helpful with, you *will* ace the class. The exam reviews are almost exactly like the exam. She is also helpful in office hours, she'll help you through the exam review and tell you if something isn't going to be on it.
She teaches well and her explanations are clear. She is also patient when you ask questions. If you pay attention in class and understand, you don't have to read the textbook and you're sure to do well in her tests/ exams.
Aceves is a great prof!! She is extremely helpful and cares about all her students. If you really want an A, you will get an A. go to her office hours! Great class/prof!
Really nice lady. Does her best to be clear about what she does on the problems, but she occasionally makes small mistakes. Talks quite quickly and has a bit of an accent, but she is still very helpful.
She is great. Homework is optional but recommended. Most of the quizzes are take home or done in groups. She is very helpful in office hours. I found the tests to be very straight forward and not tricky.
I have taken calc before and this class was amazingly easy - I have not done the homework since the first assignment and I have a high A. She gives quizzes every Friday but many are take-home or partner. Highly recommend if you have had calc before, but she does move rather quickly which may be hard with a non-calc background.
Great lady who knows her stuff. She is really helpful if you need it but the class is super easy. If you took pre-cal in high school, this class is a breeze. Attendance is mandatory (sign-in sheet). Never used the book and I got an A in the class.
Helpful if you ask her questions. Homework is optional. Most quizzes are take-home.
Such a nice professor. Take your quizzes to her office and she will help you get 100 on all of them. Offers study guides for test which are basically the test with different questions. Easy A if you attend and just do the quizzes and study guide before test.
Aceves is super nice and helpful! She explains concepts very clearly, and is very patient with answering questions. Even if you are struggling, she has generous office hours and it's so easy to get help for math. Aceves is merciful with grades and helpful in class. Take her course.
At first I somewhat found her accent annoying. But I she is a great professor! She explains everything clearly, and makes it easy understanding. She cares about all her students. Take her review seriously, if you do so you should have no problem with her exams.
Great teacher. She explains everything clearly, homework is optional, always there to help if you need it. Best math teacher Ive ever had.
She was a great professor. She is my favorite professor so far. She is very helpful in her office hours and is willing to answer every question you have. She is so sweet and she cares about all of her students. If you do the homework which is optional, you will do just find in the class. Her quizzes are harder than the actual tests are. TAKE HER!!
I took for business calc. There are weekly tests, but the majority are takehome. Her office hours are really helpful. She gives a study guide which is basically the test. Her accent isnt that bad, after a week you dont notice it.
She's pretty nice. If you've taken calc before this class is a breeze. If not it's pretty difficult. BUT if you do the review packet (which is required, but actually try at it), then you should be set for the tests. Overall a good experience. Would recommend.
She is a great teacher, very helpful outside of class as well. take any class she offers!! at first it is hard to understand her but don't fret it only takes about a week to get the hang of her accent.
Prof. Aceves was kind and helpful. She made the material interesting using real world examples and engaging the class when working out problems on the board. Also if you have a 92 or above you're exempt from the final. Easy and interesting class, perfect for fulfilling a math cred.
Took Business Pre-Calc with her. The class material is easy, however, I have never had such a boring teacher. Lecture upon lecture upon lecture. I enjoy interactive and enthusiastic teachers and she made me want to sleep through every class because her teaching style was so umstimulating. She also nags you at the end of class if you test slowly.
Great Professor. Willing to help students and class is easy. I would definitely take her math education course :)!
she is a great prof. she is ready to help u.
She is always there to help. She will give you extra time on tests and quizzes if you need it. She has office hours everyday except Friday so she is always available and ready to help. Strongly recommend taking her for pre-calc business.
Too easy, son...
I BARELY passed pre cal in high school so I was a little nervous for this class. So far, I've gotten 102s on the first two tests and have over a 100 average in the class. The first three weeks of class is Algebra 1 material. She's a good teacher who knows what she's doing. The accent sometimes gets kinda annoying but I still like her.
Great teacher overall. Tests are easy as long as you go to class. Very helpful and clear, even though she has an accent.
Not great at teaching Precal for Bus, but that's because she doesn't know how to "dumb it down". She's clearly primarily a calc teacher. She's sweet, but boring, messes up during lectures, and has a thick accent and trouble understanding students. The class is not difficult (especially if you've had precal before!!) and she'll help if you ask!
She is an amazing instructor!!!! She will stay late, rain sleet or snow she is there for her students! She wants everyone to do well. She sincerely cares about her students!!! Love her! You could not ask for a better instructor!!! MUST TAKE HER!!!!
A very kind and easy-going woman with a thick spanish accent! LONG lectures every class period and quizzes every thursday. If you miss more than 3 times, you will be dropped. Very helpful during office hours! If I had to take this again, I would choose her again. Homework is optional but highly, HIGHLY recommended. NO surprises. Read the syllabus.
She tends to mess up while explaining things in class. Compounded with her somewhat harsh accent and boring teaching style, she can be tough to listen to, especially for 1.5 hours on TTH. I'd look elsewhere.
Easy class, homework is optional, lots of groupclass quizzes. Most of the material is stuff you learned in middlehigh school. Tests always have a bonus question. The only "homework" you have to ever turn in are the test reviews, and those are worth doing anyways. I took her again for Business Calc!
Professor Aceves was one of the best teachers I've had so far. She's an excellent teacher and her tests aren't very hard. Take her class and go to class. She makes Calculus clear and easy.
Prof. Aceves is a sweetheart. Had her for Bus Precal & Bus Calc. She wants you to learn and will make sure you do well if you get to know her. Go to class and make sure she knows your name!! This will help you more than I can say. She can be confusing and her teaching style can be frustrating at times, but she is worth taking!!!!
Takes time to get used to her accent. Goes through material very fast so make sure you can pay attention. Take home quizzes every week which are very duable and if you go to office hrs she is extremely helpful. Her tests are pretty hard but if you study you will be fine. She also gives extra credit on every one which is awesome. I never did the hw
Aceves is by far the easiest Calc professor out there. She has weekly quizzes (which are almost always group, open note AND take home) and her tests (there are few) are very straightforward. She does have an accent so she can be a little hard to understand sometimes, but if you can get past that the class is very simple.
Professor Aceves is very sweet and accommodating. If you pay attention, this class will be an easy A. We have quizzes every Thursday but each one ended up either being "take home" or "open note." Attend the review sessions before the tests, they are very helpful!
Her instructions can be a little unclear during lecture, but she is always extremely helpful during office hours and is willing to reteach if necessary. If you have an A in the class at the end of the semester, you don't have to take the final.
Great Professor Hard tester
Good in the sense that every quiz is take home. Her tests are slightly difficult if you don't study. She teaches very quickly and it is extremely difficult to keep up. She messes up constantly while teaching her lessons and has to go back and go over the subject matter again. I would suggest finding another professor.
Prof. Aceves is probably one of the best teachers I have had at this school. If I had any questions about the material or HW, I'd just go to her office hours and she'd help me figure it out. A lot of homework, but it's graded on completion only. Weekly take-home quizzes and a really helpful review sheet make exams seems easy.
Aceves is a great teacher because she is so energetic. She makes the class easy to understand.
She's a good professor and is not out to make all her students fail. She genuinely cared about how we did on the exams and always answered questions clearly. If you studied for the test they were not bad, she also gave a review for the exam that was very reflective of the exam. If you understand the review, you can pass her exams. Would recommend!
Great professor - kind and organized. Helpful and accessible outside of class. Sticks to syllabus. Found that she provides easy examples - making homework a bit confusing at times. Also, often makes small mistakes on the board -- so pay attention to those. Fair with quizzes, but doesn't give a lot of time. Attendance is very important for success.
real good, highly recommended. adds one bonus question in exams (worth 5 points) and quizzes are take home. Do and understand the review for the test and you should pass. probably, final's in a month. Also, she replaces your lowest test score with the final score, of course only if it was lower than the final. I marked extra creditbonus question
Great teacher. She goes over everything thoroughly and is actually helpful if you don't understand something. She writes out notes on the board exceptionally well. Lets you use graphing calculators on everything. Fairly easy quizzes and tests.
Let me start by saying math is NOT my strongest subject. Consol. Calc is a tough class, and it was one of the hardest I've ever taken (again, not good at math) Professor Aceves is very determined to make you learn the material, but sometimes she speeds through things too fast in class. More handouts and slower problems worked on the board wouldhelp
I would definitely not recommend this class. Take an extra year and take Calculus 1 and Calculus 2. She moved so fast that it was hard to keep up even for an all A's student. Didn't cover material very thoroughly and your grade was heavily dependent on whether you asked specific questions to complement the lectures.
She's awful. She has no idea how to teach a class and her accent drives me insane. She focuses on easy things and not difficult ones. She'll stop class and get pissed if like 2 out of 90 kids whisper to eachother. All in all, she's thuper thuper thucky.
Prof Aceves is a great lecturer. While she does have a strong accent that'll throw you off at first, once you get used to it you'll realize how much you are learning in the class--and how much you miss if you skip. I missed a day and felt behind for a week, but she worked with me in office hours to catch me up before the test. Overall: great!!
A solid choice for pre-business students, your grade is based on quiz( weekly) and 3 exams, easy A if you do the quiz and go through all review problems that are very similar to your exam questions. This semester, students who get the average grade above 95 could drop their finals. The review session is quite helpful. Would recommend.
Good teacher. 3 tests, you can exempt final if your test average is a 95 or above at the end of semester. There is a quiz every week, but it is either take home or a group quiz. Homework is optional.
Professor Aceves understands the material clearly and communicates it well. Her Business Calculus class was large (75-100 students), so she is very accessible during office hours for personalized help. She recognizes students' efforts and appreciates participation. Not too difficult, but not an easy A. Required effort, but very straightforward.
Professor Aceves is such an amazing professor! She knows what she is teaching, and she is 100% passionate about it. She is always available to help her students, and she makes the material incredibly easy to understand. Granted, you do have to study for the tests, but she always provides extra credit! Def would retake her if given the opportunity!
The worst professor that Ive had in college. Does a terrible job of teaching. She goes way to fast for an intro level class. Avoid taking her class at all costs. I am an A student but I had to drop her intro to business calc class because she was so horrible.
Not a horrible teacher but very hard to understand and blows through material. Lots of quizzes and she talks a lot. Have to teach yourself a lot of things but she is pretty nice and understanding especially if you are sick. Overall there are better teachers but she is not the worst teacher. Not the best for intro classes.
Her accent is so heavy Spanish its hard to understand. She moves so fast and doesn't always answer questions when asked, super frustrating. She is a sweet person but not a super fun professor. It made calc so much harder.
She is a really great professor. She has an accent that some people find hard to understand but it really isn't. She is pretty chill with phones and laptops as the semester goes on. Just make sure you're well behaved and she will prove super useful. Go to her office hours early on in the semester and she will like you.
Really nice lady. I went to see her outside of class and she was helpful and still says hi a year later. Homework is due every week. Tests are pretty straightforward and there's extra credit.
I think this class was great, she did a great job explaining and teaching the topics, there are weekly quizzes that are almost always take-home that really help you understand the material and her review guides are very helpful. this class does require a lot of outside studying
She's such an amazing professor! I went to her office hours frequently because she was always super helpful. Weekly quizzes but they are in groups and are take-home, and she is even willing to help you on them! Weekly homework isn't too bad, and she even has an extra credit problem on every test (even the final). Naturally a tough class though.
If you show up to class, pay attention, and do the homework you will most likely get a solid A in this class. She teaches well and in a way that is easy to understand. Quizzes every week that are done with a partner and can be taken home and turned in the next day. Tests are very similar to review.
Aceves is a excellent professor. Her lectures are clear. She gave weekly quizzes that are easy if you did the homework. Tests were easy if you took notes, did the homework, and did the exam review she handed out. She was extremely accessible and she was very helpful during office hours. She is always respectful of students and answers all questions
If you take her for Consolidated Calc class beware. Consolidated Calc is Calc1 and Calc2 in one semester so it is fast paced. If you have her, she speaks very fast and with a thick accent. That combined with like 2 months to learn all of Calc2 is a little challenging. 3 Test 60% of grade and the last average was a 66 w/ no curve. GO TO OFFICE HOURS
She talks way too fast and has a thick accent. Most of her class fails the recent test but she does not curve it because some people got a 100. Even though those people have already been through calc 2 or are retaking the class. Most people learn through khan academy to survive. The "completion homeworks" are graded on accuracy "accidently"
She gives quizzes every class period and they are graded very harshly, I did many of them with a tutor, and still usually did not receive grades above 80%. Her accent makes all of the concepts much more difficult to comprehend, and I would not take this class again if I was paid to.
GO TO OFFICE HOURS. She wants to help, and in a big lecture like this, it really helps because she knew my name and that I cared. You have weekly take-home quizzes that if you go to office hours she'll basically do with you. Do the homework it really helps. Do well on the first exams because you can get exempt from the final with a 95 test avg .
Possibly one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She grades super harshly. The homework, quizzes, and tests take so long. She doesn't do a good job of explaining anything or actually teaching anything. She is rude and does not truly care about helping you. She's one of the only teachers that teaches a math course in the afternoon, NOT WORTH IT!
Professor Aceves is the absolute best! She loves to help people learn and understand the material. Go to office hours! She will help you with any quiz questions or homework questions! Homework assignments are optional, but I highly recommend doing them. Do your work and you can easily finish with an A in this class!!!
TOUGH grader on tests but the reviews are just like the test so if you look at those youll be fine
Gonna be alot if you havent taken calc 2 cause she teaches like a review. TOUGH grader on tests (has extra credit) but the review is just like the test so if you look at those you'll do well
Goes through lectures very quickly and hard to follow at times. Tests are relatively easy compared to the questions on quizzes and the review. Tests mock the questions on the review so make sure to do the reviews thoroughly. Also offers extra credit on tests. Not an exciting class but you will get a good grade if you do the work and pay attention.
First of all, this professor somehow has an addiction with taking off points for absolutely no reason. On several occasions, she took off points claiming the question was never answered even though it was clearly there if she cared to look. I emailed her asking in what areas I'd need to improve to do better, and she never responded. DON'T TAKE HER
Lectures can be pretty confusing because she moves pretty fast and has a thick accent. If you struggle with math, youre definitely gonna want to take advantage of her office hours because shes actually a great teacher one-on-one. Replaces your lowest test grade with the final, which is great, and you can also exempt to final if you have 95 avg.
Cares about students who put in effort; if you're genuinely trying to learn she's happy to work with you. Explains concepts well enough for people who've taken calc 1 before, but if this is the first calc class you've ever taken, you'll suffer. Tests are 80% of your grade! Reviews are harder than the exams tho so do them. TA was awful at teaching.
I really enjoyed Professor Aceves' style of teaching and she's super intelligent. Definitely lecture-heavy and more fast-paced than other courses. One of my favorite classes because of how helpful she is. If you take her and want to do well, go to most if not ALL her office hours. And the reviews the test. Make sure to participate!
This class was, uh, not it. She grades the tests based on the smallest errors, so unless you're meticulous with your work, be prepared to get grades far lower than they should be.
Shes the best math professor Ive ever had! Shes super understanding and gives good feedback on work. Shes one of the nicest ladies and cares about her students and just wants everyone in her class to do well!!
definitely had to put in work but she explains everything very well
Professor Aceves moves very quick, which can be difficult especially in a math class. If you have her next semester make sure you go to her office hours because she tends to favor those students more. The homework/ tests are way harder than the homework and practice problems.
By far the best math professor Ive had. She explains everything well, with patience, and will answer all your questions. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Youll learn how she grades and what format she likes answers in so you wont get deducted points off small errors. Tests are just like her reviews.
Super intelligent, but she makes a LOT of mistakes during lectures. Students constantly had to correct her. Lots of HW but it's a completion grade. Quizzes are pretty easy, but the tests are difficult. She's good about partial credit though. She moves really fast in lectures. Super sweet woman!
Hard to understand sometimes will need to teach a lot on your own. Hard reviews guides that take a very long time but straight forward tests, other homework is pretty light once a week. Find a good study group
She is a great person, but overall her lectures make no sense. I made the mistake of not taking precalculus before this class and it definitely hurt me when I chose to take 1309. I would highly recommend you take a different professor. If you end up getting stuck with her go to her office hours 3 days a week or good luck. say a few prayers before
She is super nice and understanding. If you have perfect attendance your final exam grade replaces your worst exam grade which is super helpful. Great option for a class that can be hard.
She knows the material very and is good as explaining the concepts of math and not just memorizing the formulas like other teachers. Very fast paced class and the homework can be confusing and take hours but she is accessible to review it. Tests are longer than they should be, and sometimes she will write questions to trick you.
Professor Aceves was great! Her lectures are pretty good and the tests are pretty similar to the reviews. Overall, would recommend.
She sometimes goes too fast but stops for questions. Quizzes are easy if you paid attention in class. Go to office hours to get it checked and she will basically help you answer the questions. Shes gives extra credit on tests which aren't difficult to begin with.
Amazing prof. Very kind and caring, but class is a lot of work. Weekly homework assignments -- start early and split up the work, it's very painful if you wait till the night it's due to begin. If you're confused, ASK FOR HELP. she's really sweet and she will help you, but you have to speak up.
Such a sweet professor! She's pretty good at explaining most topics and she's basically always accessible during office hours. I took this for the summer term, so it moved pretty quickly.
Great business calculus class! She is super comprehensive and makes her exams based on the review assignment given before the exam. She is super accessible in her office hours and helps you understand problems step by step. She gives extra credit for perfect attendance and includes one extra credit question in all of her exams. Take her class!
Aceves' lectures are lowkey boring. She helps out a lot and is accessible outside the class and puts in an extra credit question on every test. Math is not my strong suit and I'm particular about my teachers but she couldn't verbally explain to be in a way I could understand. She also expects you to remember all your precalc background.
Go to office hours she's actually super chill and awesome and super helpful for quizzes and homework and such. She's rly not a good teacher though when she lectures. The ALEC was my bestie when I took this class.
To pass this class you have to show up and pay attention. If you do show up and pay attention it is super easy to understand. She makes her lectures understandable and has lots of material and lecture notes on her canvas page. She also is a nice professor overall and cares about her students
A great lecturer, who doesn't assign much homework. quizzes are take-home and tests make up a majority of the final grade. A high enough test average can exempt you from the final, which is nice if you're confident in your math skills. Office hours are consistent and helpful if students are struggling.
Had her for Calc 1, her tests are a lot longer compared to other professors and way more difficult. Lectures aren't super useful but attendance is mandatory and her office hours aren't useful either. Better off just trying to teach yourself with youtube videos or find someone who is good at calc. Don't trust her grading in Canvas, weigh yourself.
Hate her sm awful everything get ready to fail
I took Aceves this semester and she was a good professor. Her lessons reflect exam topics, exam reviews are long but useful for learning, and exams are a bit long but manageable if you arrive on time. Overall, she is one of the best MATH 1309 professors you can take.
This class was a challenge for me at first, but Professor Aceves was super helpful. She is super easy to reach outside of class. As long as you show that you are putting in the effort, she will help you and work with you. My biggest advice if you take this class is to go to her office hours. She is so sweet and really wants to help you!
This professor has a very thick accent so it was hard to understand her at times. There are 3 major exams worth 60% of your grade and weekly take-home quizzes worth 20%. The exams are long and you barely have enough time to do them. I had a hard time keeping up in this class as there's new lessons everyday and a zoom review session before the exam.
I loved Dr. Aceves' class! She is super kind and caring, and she does her best to explain clearly. She is also very accessible outside of class, especially during her office hours, and always open to questions! Grades: Chapter quizzes (take-home), chapter homework assignments (optional, but DO THEM), chapter exams (not bad, similar to reviews).
Coming from a non-math person: please, please, do the optional homework! If you do, Aceves is a good lecturer, accessible outside of class, and very understanding should you need extra help; you won't have any problems with her class.
Professor Aceves teaches MATH1309 with clear explanations. Quizzes are take-home, and tests aren't too difficult. The textbook is used, but attending office hours is key. unstuck AI was a great study tool alongside the provided materials.
She is very accessible outside of class and ready to help if you need it. I will say there are easier professors out there for this class but she is super helpful in teaching you the material and her lectures were great
The worst ever. Simple.
Take her. However, go into this class mentally blocking off each of her office hours in your schedule. If you routinely do office hours, you will get 100% on every quiz, build a connection, and it will boost your exam grades. Without office hours I wouldve failed calc like i did in high school. She wants you to succeed.
Keep this in mind while reading this review: I am NOT good at math. However, I think Aceves is a good professor. She explains the material well and you will get a lot from the lectures if you pay attention. I had to study very hard for the tests but math doesn't come very easy to me. If you are good at math, an A in her class is very attainable.
I really like Professor Aceves as a person, she is very nice and willing to help. However, if you aren't good at math, you will likely struggle in her class. Her exams are very long, and we only had 50 minutes to complete them. Most people wouldn't finish it. Also, small mistakes cost you lots of points so you must be careful.
I really liked Professor Aceves, she's a great teacher! Her class isn't bad at all, you have homework but you don't have to submit it, weekly take home quizzes that she can help you with, and only 3 tests. She's super sweet and I definitely recommend her class.
Go to office hours if you are struggling or need clarification! Even though I was doing pretty well in her class, I would always meet her in office hours if I had a question about the homework. Her lectures are clear, and she does lots of practice problems in class, which is helpful. Easy class if you put in effort and try!
