Don't do it. she does not help you pass the class you go to her office hours and its like you are talking to a wall. you will study and it will not reflect on your test and quiz grades. STAY AWAY
Prof A is very sweet an approachable, but fails to communicate with students and explain concepts properly. She is knowledgeable in her field but just reads from a powerpoint and shows animations during lecture. Exams and quizzes have NOTHING to do with lecture, so you pretty much have to memorize the book.
Professor A is very caring and smart! I suggest to ready her powerpoint and the book. If you only study from her powerpoint, you will not pass any of the quizzes or the tests. You HAVE to READ THE BOOK! The prof offers a lot of extra credits which helps. You have to work for your grade.
She's VERY lecture heavy and speeds through the powerpoints (doesn't post them online either). Pay attention and take good notes to study from. We had 11 quizzes and she dropped the lowest. Exams are pretty much based from the quizzes. Study, she's difficult, but reasonable. Study and you'll do alright.
I would not say that this class itself is difficult, but I do know that you will not pass unless you read the book. She goes over her own power points (not the book's) and about 90% of the time, none of it was on the test so you must READ!
Professor Alegre is very kind and understanding. However her lecture and her notes are pretty useless for the tests and quizzes you need the textbook. Tests are very difficult unless you study really hard. Lots of online work that you have to do it'll help your overall grade in the end. Dropped our lowest test grade.
Professor Alegre is a nice lady, but not a good professor. Her lectures consist of her reading robotically off of her 100 slide powerpoints at super sonic speeds. Her reviews are useless and nothing like her tests. The way she words her tests does not make sense to anyone except her. Only good this is extra credit because she knows were all failing
This professor was the worst. You can't understand what she says and she is the only bio professor who doesn't gives curves on tests and offers no help. Her lectures are pointless, you have to teach your self outside of class and there is no one to help you at the tutoring center. The only good thing I can say about her is that she gives extra cred
she is one of the worst professors I've ever had! she doesn't even help you she just reads off her powerpoint and assigns homework. I strongly suggest to choose another professor.
Professor Alegre wasnt even supposed to be the professor for my course. For 2 months she would ask us a T/F questions after lecture for attendance after those 2 months she deleted that category out of nowhere and it dropped everyones grade significantly (mine dropped 20%). The tests are so much more complex than the lectures talk about, read book
The worst professor. Attendance was included in our grade at the beginning of the course although on the syllabus attendance does not count towards grade. She removed it randomly and everyones grades dropped tremendously. She reads off of powerpoint every class and just assigns homework. Gives no study tips. She does not respond to emails at all.
Terrible professor. Do not even bother attempting to take her course.
Prof Alegre's class consists of her reading a powerpoint for an hour and a half, in a robotic-like manner. She gives these powerpoint presentations and then the test is almost nothing like them. Make sure to read the E-text, as well as attend lectures I guess. The grade saving mechanisms for me are extra credit and mylab. Would not recommend.
I would not recommend taking this professor. Although she is very passionate about teaching, her lectures do not translate to what tests us on. Her lectures are very generic while the quizzes and exams are very specific. No matter what approach you took to prepare for the course, it just seemed very difficult.
Don't take any class with her. Almost everyone in my class failed the midterm, and instead of curving or allowing us to do test corrections, she gave us ANOTHER exam the week after, on paper. It doesn't even replace the midterm grade. She blames anyone other than herself, and said that we aren't studying enough or utilizing the resources to do well
This professor doesnt teach and reads straight off power points. Her tests are extremely difficult and the averages of the tests are low and she doesnt curve them at all. She blames it on the students and not herself instead
do not take her. she made us take another exam a week after the midterm because most of the class failed, said it would replace the lowest test grade, and we find out the day after they final that she was not going to drop the lowest exam grade and all grades are final. worst professor you can take for bio
She seems nice but OH MY GOD her class is horrible. Her lectures don't help at all for her exams and won't tell you about an in class assignment until that day. She gaslit the class when confronted about how her exams are. I could not wait to leave that class. I wish I could give her lower ratings and be able to rate her TA, he was a harsh grader.
The worst professor you could have.... picked classes too late and got stuck with her. Lectures for two hours and her power points DO NOT help. Attendance is not necessarily mandatory but if a lot of people do not show up, she gives out extra credit or in class assignments. The tests are impossible to pass & she basically says to inhale the book.
Please do not take her. She is very difficult.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She loves science and you can tell but she is just not good at teaching. Her tests are nothing like her PowerPoints or lectures. She teaches general stuff like definitions, then proceeds to test us on the smallest details. I filled up 2 notebooks with notes that I had to do on my own by reading the huge textbook.
Do not take this professor. She is terrible. Her PowerPoints don’t help in the exams at all. I don’t know where she gets some of her questions, because they’re not in the book either.
If you want to pass bio DON'T TAKE HER. She gives extra credit, but it's not much and you have to attend a lot of SI sessions to even get 1/3 extra credit points. No matter how much me or my classmates studied, the average class score on an exam was a 54% on a good day. She's nice but wouldn't recommend if BIO is a requirement for your major.
Professor Alegre is a nice lady but by no means is she a good professor/teacher. She gave lectures every day that had almost no correlation to what was actually on the exams. The average score for the midterm in my class was a 50% which I really feel should say something about her teaching.
Awful
Read the textbook! Tests requires reasoning and critical thinking skills. There are tests and quizzes every other week. SIs do not go in depth, thus are not helpful. Alegre tends to be hard to follow during lecture. Assignments are long and time-consuming. Use all the resources the online textbook provides. Be attentive and good luck!
This professor doesn't teach very well at all. She just reads off her PowerPoint and the PowerPoint has nothing to do with the tests. I do not recommend taking her at all.
You will be teaching yourself everything although gives extra credit for those who show up to class
Avoid. I don't even know how I passed this class cause our class averages were always 50-60%. Safe to say this course made me change my major, and you would want to as well if you take her.
The course is not an easy course but she works and care for her students a lot!! I was able to review exams with her during office hrs. I had her in Bio1 and now in Bio2, her lectures are extensive but very interesting. If you like to learn in a course you should pick her,
I have learned and benefited a lot from your course and all the caring toward your students, looking forward to continue with you on Biol1510 next spring semester
I really want to thank professor Alegre, I've taken both BIOL 1500 and BIOL 1510 with you last year and you helped me accel in both classes, THANK YOU!! She really care for her students, and really prepared me for pre med. The courses are not easy ones and better looks for a professor that cares about your learning, Be Smart!!
I was struggled at the beginning or the semester but she helped me to success, she is amazing!! the courses are tough but she cares and put a lot of effort helping her students! I will definitely take her course next semester!
Great professor !! I will definitely continue with her, she respond to your emails, she listening to you and she care about you, she want you to learn and be ready for heavier courses in your future
100% do not recommend unless you want to teach yourself this course.
The course is so extensive but the professor provide a lot of help, I would definitely take Professor Alegre
I was not sure to take Prof. Alegre, but her classes has seen really helpful, not a lot professors care like she does for her students; her lectures are heavy, but she provides many opportunities. I will definitely continue with her in 1510. I would rather take it with a professor that cares about her students' success.
Great Professor, nice lady and very passionate about biology, 4 exams, not cumulative and she practically provide similar questions during the lectures, do not miss lectures, most of examples are given in lectures are asked in the exams. If you dedicate time to the course is a easy A
great professor, she cares for her students, lot of opportunities for extra credit
GREAT PROFESSOR! SHE REALLY CARES! PARTICIPATION IS A MUST! AMAZING LECTURES
Very good professor, she came well prepared for every lesson, she really cares and the class was fun. I'm glad I took this class, I would take it again!
I took Alegre for Bio 1 and 2, and I honestly think that she is a good teacher. She is very powerpoint and lecture-based, but her tests are very fair. If you pay attention in class, re-read through the slides, and study the Pearsons, you will do well. You can't expect to get an A in any class if you don't put in the work, her class is very doable.
Lectures are kinda boring but her tests are easy. Sometimes the slides don't have all the info so you have to show up for lecture. Sometimes she'll to pop extra credit assignments that go towards your grade. Not super test heavy since there's homework assignments. Each exam covers 4 chapters; midterm and final are noncumulative.
Posts all power points with lecture material, lectures are slow and somewhat boring but all the information on the slides. Pearson questions correlate with tests, and easy repetitive questions. Attendance not mandatory but gives extra credit assignments on paper in class.
DO NOT TAKE HER, SHE DOESN'T CARE AT ALL. Even if you're a great student, she will make you feel like you aren't just by the way she is towards her students. In lecture, she reads off the power points and acts like she cares about questions, when in reality, she can't even reply to emails. Honestly, the she's type to make you hate biology :/
She is the type of teacher to just stand up there and talk. She always wants you to ask questions but will not answer them. She doesn't review or guide you with what to look over for the exams. I need it for my Gen Ed requirements. This class drove me into a spiral and I actually tried. NEVER EVER TAKE THIS CLASS.
Her "teaching" is just reading off of the PowerPoints. A lot of the things on her tests are nowhere to be found in her PowerPoints. If you want to get an A on her tests, you have to read the entire textbook chapter and study her PowerPoint, which is a LOT of content, because it's a shot in the dark of what will be on her tests. She made me hate bio
She gives four tests in total for bio 2 none of the tests are cumulative. The content is throughly explained in her PowerPoints. If you study the PowerPoints in depth you should be ok.
Lecture is not required to attend. You can self-teach and still do well. Lots of extra credit though if you do go to class. Talk to someone who has taken her before they will help A LOT (TB).
she annoying asl dont shut up
At first It thought she was a good professor but after taking two classes you realize that lecture is just like you are listening a textbook just reads everything from memory. Everyone in the class gets bored after 10 minutes. She might now a lot about biology but if you can't reach to student than you are not doing your job well
Quite literally the easiest biology professor at Nova. I wish she taught Bio 2 but regardless, she is such a sweet and caring professor. She breaks down concepts so well and her exams are easy. Take her!
Easy A if that is what you are looking for
I had professor Alegre once a week and she lectured basically the whole time. She reads off of her slides which makes you question if theres a point in attending class but she does give a lot of extra credit work in class so make sure to attend. She has Lockdown take home quizzes, 4 exams (including midterm/final). If you took AP in HS you're good.
Easy class, easy professor
Exams are very simple to the point- would recommend
Not sure where to begin But Dr.Alegre was an incredible professor. She gave practice exams that mirrored the real exam exactly with even same questions. A guaranteed A- or A. Lots of extra credit to boost grade
Prof Alegre made the semester a breeze! If you're looking for an easy-going and stress-free academic experience, they're the perfect choice. The material was presented in a simple, understandable way, which made even the toughest subjects seem manageable. Exams are all multiple choice
Take her! I had no background in college bio and never took AP Bio but she makes content manageable. Drops lowest exam and gives lots of extra credit. Lab is easy. Recommend
Wish she taught Bio2. Took Bio1 last semester and she was one of the best professors I had. She gives practice exam in class (REVIEW THIS!!!) exact same questions will be on the exam
4 exams and 1 Final. Lots of extra credit. No surprise questions on exams. Take her if you can
I never went to class , other than exam days since her exams are from the practice exam and the powerpoints. However, I found out if you go to class she gives bonus points for attendance. I still made an A but if you want to maximize your grade, go to class
Pretty easy class just pay attention to ppt and practice exam
She is one of the best professors I have had- she is so kind and helpful during classes and exams are very simple, no trick questions
One of the better professors to take. Good teaching style and conveys material well
she is good but bio is a pretty boring class
She is always available during office hours to answer any questions or to review old exams. Her exams have no trick questions and they are easy if you pay attention during lecture. She gives extra credit in class, so make sure to attend lecture. The homework is on Pearson, and the questions are similar to exams.
Prof Alegre is AMAZING!! Her lectures are a little difficult because she moves very quickly but if you read the textbook you should be fine. She cares so much about each of her students and is always willing to give feedback and help you understand difficult topics. She even will go over past exams with you. I recommend that people take her.
Great teacher, taking her again for Bio 1510, gives lots of extra credit and chances to boost your grade
She has easy tests and a good amount of assignments. Her lectures are long and boring, however.
Lectures with a powerpoint and can answer any questions. Very nice prof, but boring lectures. Gives out extra credit and tests are easy.
Professor Alegre is clear what assignments your need to get done and what you need to study to prepare for her exams. She uses Pearson and her exams are based off the textbook. She has a thick accent that is hard to understand at times but her lectures are great and she wants her students to succeed.
She's pretty good, not very concise during lectures so it can be hard to follow but u should be fine after reading the textbook. She answers all questions in a very kind manner. The only thing I would have to say is that she uses Pearson for her quizzes, BUT she rewords them in a way that make the answer more ambiguous, which was really bad.
Dr.Alegre definitely expects you to already know basic biology and chemistry concepts before the class, she reads off PowerPoint and can be pretty boring. Her tests are hard, the wording is kinda weird but quizzes are easy. I recommend reading the textbook, GO TO SI!!! and attend class even though it's boring.
She just reads off the PowerPoint and expects you to know the basics, gives extra credit but it does not help. Tests are 40% of your grade and based on Pearson and MLM so make sure you study those. The SI is really helpful she gives you the quiz and the answers and is better at explaining stuff. The hw is not that hard just long.
She just reads off powerpoints and the class IS boring. Lab was great--super easy! Tests are kind of hard to study for as its ambiguous as to what EXACTLY you should study. There was no "final" or "midterm" for this class, just tests for the following chapters, I.E. Exam 1, Exam 2 (midterm), Exam 3, Exam 4 (Midterm).
Lectures are EXTREMELY BORING. You will have to teach yourself. Make sure you read the textbook because thats what her exams are on. Some of the questions on her exams are not on her powerpoint slides. She's a very nice lady but overall this is a hard class.
She may seem like a great professor but she is not. She has heavy lectures and reads off her PowerPoint slides that are over 100+. She expects to get chapters done within 1-2days. Her lectures have nothing to do with the exams. Attendance is not mandatory but there are some days she will decide to give out extra credit for those in class.
Don't listen to these other reviews dissing on her lectures, while it's true she reads powerpoints, it is stated in her syllabus that you are expected to read the chapter PRIOR to the lecture, the lecture is mainly a refresher of the chapter and a clarification of what you read. She provides review questions to check your understanding after.
Professor Alegre is one of the best professors I know. Although she is fast and has a small accent when lecturing, it won't damage your learning because you'll have to read and learn the powerpoints outside of class. She cares a lot and wants you to understand the topic material and plus gives extra credit!
Honestly, she's is lecture heavy with 4 tests throughout the semester. If you don't study and actually learn outside of class, you would most likely fail or just end up with a not so good grade. A lot of memorization and if you miss a couple points on the quiz, she gives a ton of extra credits that goes towards the tests!! She's amazing.
just reads off powerpoint slides is very boring, I went to every lecture and learned more just by reading the text book. The midterm and final are cumulative which is impossible 17 chapters for a bio final is just unreasonable.
I really like Alegre. She is very caring and gives good feedback. Her tests are easy and most people get an A on every one. She gives out lots of extra credit and there are some homework and assignments, but they only help bring your grade up. She does have a stronger accent, but she's a really good teacher, would recommend.
Gives lots of work. Nothing that she taught was in the quizzes/ tests, read the book only way u will pass. If you do the homework and do ok in the lab then dont worry about test results they end up balancing out. So the ton of homework she gave was a good thing. Do all the extra credit she gives and dont turn anything in late she doesn't accept it.
TAKE HER!!! Go to every class because the extra credit WILL HELP UR GRADE TREMENDOUSLY. The study guides she posts on canvas helps a lot. I could have gotten an A+ but I didn't go to class much and didn't study for the first test. Make sure to complete all MyLab assignments because it will boost your grade. I studied from Powerpoint and did fine.
shes a really easy bio prof. the quizzes/hw don't really align with the tests/material but they are easy to pass as they're online at home. if you come to class she gives extra credit. tests averages were in the 60s-70s but she also gives bonus questions at the end. her lectures are super boring tho... but if you read the lectures youll get an A
Several month late review but extra credit. Attendance occasionally mandatory but posts announcement if is. Mostly study from Pearson hw and practice questions. Use PowerPoint if there's extra info that isn't on Pearson. Need to study a lot though cause not all test questions are on Pearson. Final only 50 questions from bio department, no extra.
This class was very easy if you are looking to get a science in. Quizzes are open notes and super easy. I took the 8 week version of the class and it consisted of 1-2 quizzes a week with 1 or 2 written assignments that also were not that hard. Powerpoint project isn't as hard as she makes it sound just get started ahead of time.
Lectures are just her reading off a slideshow for 50 minutes. Tests are from the book, not the slideshows. Easy if you just read the textbook. Super boring though. Attendance isn't too important.
I took this class for biology 1. She basically reads off the presentation for the whole class. You need to study or else the tests are really hard, she gives 4 tests the year with a few take home quizzes throughout the semester. These aren't on lockdown browser. She also gives about 5 assignments on canvas and assignments on my lab.
Alegre is great. I 100% reccomend for bio 1, she does extra credit and the tests are soley based off the slideshow and practice questions she gives. The homeworks on pearson take a while but arent hard. Overall 10/10
Honestly and truly, I did not like this professor. It was too confusing. If you're good with teaching yourself material- you're fine. If you need to be taught in a lesson to understand, this is not the professor for you at all. she just reads off slides and nobody ever knows where her exams are from. She's also hard to understand and very boring.
This is an outstanding professor if you learn through lectures, videos, examples, drawing, and asking questions. However, they have so much homework to do, and there are a lot of extra credit assignments. The tests are heavily graded, but she does not do the lab portion. TAKE IF YOU LEARN IN PERSON BEST. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU LEARN BY YOURSELF.
She's okay, we don't see her personality that much, her lectures are truly boring, but attendance isn't mandatory, and anybody can easily pass the class just by doing the SI's practice questions, Pearson and reading the textbook for each chapter, its way better than using the PowerPoint and do every extra credit assignment.
When it comes to her personality, she is not nice and will call you out in front of the whole class. Very passive aggressive. However if you do not care about that then I would take her bc her exams are not super difficult. If you study using the powerpoint and practice questions you'll do fine. She lectures but actually teaches the material.
Easy Class. Just do the Connects light work. The final talks about that one book.
She is a okay teacher because she reads off the slides and be prepared to take notes. She gives a lot of extra credit and her quizzes are all online every friday. If you dont go to her class everyday you'll be fine because she just uses the presentation made from the textbook.
Absolutely take her. The tests arent super hard, and she is sooo nice. If you use the book to study, you will definitely pass without a doubt. She gives a lot of extra credit.
After doing every extra credit (about 5-6) they brought my grade up by not even 1%, plus she refused to give me a boost from a 79.8% that's like .2%! Only way to pass is read the book and practice on Pearson everything else is useless
Such a sweet professor! Uses a mix of Pearson, quizzes are on canvas without lockdown, and tests are in person. Gives out plenty of extra assignments to help boost your grade that are actually helpful in understanding concepts. Office hours are great use them! Cares about students passing and always extends reminders for resources
She is a great professor. If you just study the slides, then you will be fine. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she gives some extra credit assignments in class.
Only four exams, including the midterm and final, are weighted the same (10% each). Quizzes at home, no lockdown camera, canvas assignments, mastering bio, and lab account for 60% of your grade, so even if tests go bad, you'll do fine. I did awful on all tests and ended with an 88%. She gives extra credit randomly in class sometimes.
So light. Great grading. Just do well on the quizzes, mastering, canvas assignments and go for extra credit. Tests are all MCQ with like one or two SAQ that are so easy.
She's a good professor although I thought myself more than I thought. The TA was not my fav she did not help at all (in my opinion). She's understanding with extensions, depends. The quizzes are online, no lockdown. Some exams are cumulative and are pretty heavy on your overall grade. Kennedie C.. best TA! She was amazing and very nice!!
attendance isn't graded other than on test days but i would recommend going just because she does offer extra credit in class. tests are all multiple choice, as long as you use the study tool on pearson you'll be fine. quizzes are online (not lockdown) and like 5 homework assignments. however, as a person she's super rude and passive aggressive.
Tbh, she's a great professor, and the class was easy to me passed with an A. Ppl only rate her low because she speeds through lectures like you know the subject, so js go home and read the Pearson book and powerpoints. It's college professors barely teach you gotta teach yourself.
I really liked Dr. Alegre this semester. She is very knowledgable about what she teaches and her passion shows. She does a good job between talking, showing videos to the class, and quick class assignments. Dr. Alegre is very personable and understanding as well. I enjoyed taking her this semester and I would recommend her to any student at NSU.
Prof Alegre is a good professor. Her lectures are pretty useless. If you study the slides and practice questions, you will be set. Easy A, just study practice questions. A lot of extra credit if you go to class.
I love Dr. Alegre. If I could take her for every single class, I would. She's amazing, her tests are pretty reasonable, and she's always willing to work with you. She always gives extra credit, so I recommend going to lecture. But if you miss lecture, it's not a big deal. Study from the book, and the questions are very similar. Take her if you can!
Great professor. Read and understand the textbook. Test is similar to textbook with practice questions. Offers A LOT of extra credit that really helps your grade. Genuinely teaches concepts and explains things well in her lectures.
Professor Alegre does mainly talk from start to finish in class. I'd recommend her bc she is very understanding and cares about students. Don't listen to the other reviews, if you do the work and don't wait to study for a test the day before, you will be fine. She gives extra credit which boosted my grade a whole letter. Best bio teacher at nova.
professor alegre was a nice professor but during her lectures she does move very fast, so If you do not have an understanding of biology I wouldn't recommend taking her since she moves very fast. during lectures she would just read off the slides but on random days she would give out extra credit and it'll go towards your next exam.
Reads off of powerpoint entire class, barely any whiteboard action unless she really wants to or the screen doesnt work. Shes really nice, but too fast for me and her tests are pretty hard. Everytime i think i did good, i got like a 60% or less. Maybe it's just me.
Not a bad teacher, but her class is boring since she just reads off her PowerPoint the entire time. Tests have surface-level questions too, so study PowerPoint well and you will breeze through. Attendance not mandatory since she posts her slides online but she does give extra credit sometimes in class.
Alegre is a good teacher. Very very very lecture heavy. Wouldn't say attendance is mandatory since all PPTs are posted on canvas but she gives extra credit assignments randomly. Tests had averages in the 70s but there were really easy and had surface-level questions. Read through the notes and you should do fine on the tests.
Tough accent but great professor. Exams are fair if you study and plenty of extra credit is offered. She explained everything really well showed examples and exams were completely off the PowerPoint. Study lecture and you'll do great.
Professor Alegre is nice and accessible outside of class. Shes very lecture-heavy, so if you're not an auditory learner, focus on Pearson hw, take notes, study, etc. Her exams are easy if you study and are similar to the Pearson hw. She also offers extra credit assignments (so go to class or you wont be able to get it)that count toward your exams.
She's a good choice compared to others. Several opportunities for extra credit (in-class only). 4 exams total based on PowerPoints and practice tests. The Pearson Homework is a bit confusing and time-consuming. If you're good at biology, you'll probably get an A, but if not, probably a "B" or better. Either way, you will have to put the work in.
lectures were lowk just her reading off the slides BUT still go bc questions/videos that help a lot for test sometimes word for word not test bank anymore some questions straight from pearson so study pearson tests easy/straightforward if you studied hella sweet, went to office hours a couple of times to review my tests and she explained questions
Tests & quizzes are extremely easy, all taken from practice test questions on Pearson. She has a pretty straightforward approach. Only complaint is lectures can be boring and attending becomes laborious as she just reads from ppts posted on canvas. Attend if you want extra credit. Material is easy. Take her if you want a stress-free class.
she would just read the slides the entire class, and went very quickly, making it hard to ask questions if you didn't understand something. her tests were kinda hard even with studying, and the textbook is required because there are assignments you do on it. if i had the option i wouldnt take her again unless shes all thats left, but not awful
