If you're in the college of communication and need to fulfill the base course requirements, definitely try to take Adriane's classes! She is hilarious, intelligent, and just awesome at her job. She makes course material very understandable.
She was the first professor I ever had in college - and she's definitely one of my favorite teachers ever. Really funny and helpful. Her lectures aren't boring at all and she uses lots of real world examples to make things easier.
Such a nice lady! Very knowledgable on the topics, and extremely entertaining. She is so understanding - I was very sick for the final and she let me make it up. Read the textbook ALWAYS and you will do great in the class!
She was okay. Nothing special. Take this class for an easy A though.
Had her for cnm 101 and 102. Super easy grader and I think she's pretty funny. Very sarcastic sense of humor.
really nice and helpful.Explains everything in great detail. takes attendance. 2 papers, midterm, & final. Super cute.
Adriane was great! This course is super easy if you attend every lecture and know the vocab from to book. She's young so she's very engaging and relatable
One of my favorite professors at DePaul =) take her, she's great.
One of the best professors I have ever had! Consisted of 4 easy online discussions, 2 papers, an easy midterm, and a final. She is always available for help. TAKE HER!
She is awesome, her examples in class are relevant and funny. Even for such a huge class she answered questions well and the hour and a half flies with her. There are 4 assignments, if you either go to lectures or do the reading you will pass. Take her!
Professor Stoner is a funny professor that gives a lot of great examples in class. While getting help from her is kind of hard she does try to help you when she can. The class only consists of 4 assignments, a midterm, a final, and 2 papers. While none of them were hard it is still important that you do all the work or your grade will suffer.
Take this class! It's awesome. There's only 2 papers and 2 tests (a midterm and a final). Both aren't super difficult, but make sure you study. She doesn't offer extra credit so this is all your grade is based on. Buy the book! 50% of the tests are based off it. She doesn't take attendance, but I actually enjoyed going :) .
LOVED Adriane for com 101 and 102, but this class is just alright. She is really entertaining though. The assignments are just a little tedious.
As a random elective for a non-communications major, this class was interesting. There were many videos (i.e.: South Park) and interesting topics. Our grades did consist of only four grades, so if you did poor on one assignment you couldn't get an A. The tests were easy, but she is picky about papers (she'll offer to read over your drafts; do it).
Adriane is so cut out for teaching. She makes the lessons very interesting and funny with her hilariously sarcastic sense of humor. She's by far the best teacher I've had at DePaul so far. If you try, her class shouldn't be hard. I regret not choosing her for my COM102 class so much it's not even funny. You WILL enjoy her class!
This was my first lecture class taken at DePaul. She was very nice and was honest about the subject matter we were learning, and also was well prepared for each class. Our grades were based off of two exams and two papers, but she was always available if you had any questions or wanted her to proof anything. Loved her!

Take Stoner for Com 101! She is funny, uses relevant examples, and makes the class fun. Everyone in my class loved her. It is a lecture class, sometimes having over 100 students, but she makes everyone interested and engaged. 2 papers, a midterm and a final.
She is an amazing college professor-the kind you epitomize one to be. I found her class to be fairly easy as she keeps all her expectations spellt out and crystal clear. She demands respect, especially in a lecture with 100+ people (this is totall acceptable and understandable). Make sure you fully understand her expectations and you'll get an A.
Stoner is an amazing professor. She is really funny and is always available to help outside of class. If you attend every class and take notes, the midterm and final are a piece of cake. I enjoyed her class even though I am not a communications major. Definitely take her. You wont regret it.
Adriane Stoner was a great professor. You can tell she loves the material that she is teaching and she wants us to get excited about it too. Her tests are half based on the book and half based on the lecture notes, and she'll offer to read over papers for you too! As a communications major, I found myself excited to go to her class. Take her!
She is an amazing proffesor! Two papers, a midterm and a final. She covers almost half the chapter in class and you have to read the other half on your own. The book is really easy though. Tests are so easy, you just have to know the terms. She is young and funny and her lectures are amazing. TAKE HER!!
Knows what she's talking about and makes class interesting. There's a lot of reading, but it's all relevant to our social media use and changes your perspective. Plus, they aren't difficult readings. Class discussions are awesome and the assignments are sparse and easy. Take her!!!
CMN 101 is one of those classes that are giant and it seems evreyone has to take it. That being said, Adriane was a decent professor. She is kind of rude at times and is not always super clear when it comes to grading criteria for her papers. Read the book and go to class and you should be fine.
Straight up professor. She's funny and makes class interesting when the topic can seem somewhat common sense. I recommend going to each class even though it's not mandatory because it can be easy to get off track with the class. Go to her office with the papers, it helps a lot because she can be a tough grader on those.
Prof. Stoner explains the material well in lecture and always says things like "this will be on the midterm" or "you'll need this for your paper". Paying attention in class, taking good notes and going over the chapter outlines in the book is enough for a solid B+. Easy A if you put in more effort. Graded on 2 5-page papers, a midterm, and a final.
There are two exams (mid-term and final) which are both only multiple choices so if you won't skip the class, exams are very easy. Two paper are about the analysis of a movie and case study based on concepts you learn in the class. My score was not so good but she gives extra office hour for paper so you feel better if you take such advantages.
Participation is not mandatory- but if you show up, there is no reason you should walk out of the class with an A or B. Midterm and Final Exam, and two papers are the only grades in the class. She is witty and applies examples to everyday life. I took it as an elective.
Adriane is my favorite professor at DePaul. She keeps your attention and is the perfect combination of strict and entertaining. If you do the work for the class and show up you will get a relatively good grade (provided you're not a terrible writer). I would HIGHLY recommend taking any class from her!
She was super helpful if you went to her office hours. She's always quick to email back. And the lectures were interesting. She shows a lot of clips which are good to break up the class. She's very organized.
Adrian is so nice! She always keeps her lectures interesting. This class is very insightful, and relevant. She creates a great environment to learn in, and is easy to talk to. I plan on taking her again this quarter.
She's a good teacher. She's funny and I actually looked forward to going to lectures. She relates to students in a good way and she's understanding. Make sure you go get help in her office every now and then - she gives good advice for papers - overall a good experience in her class
Best teacher at Depaul, she really has great lectures prepared and engages the class extremely well.
Prof. Stoner is hilarious. Plus, her lectures are always super interesting. I never found myself bored in her class and was able to absorb the information really well. I definitely recommend her.
Prof. Stoner is the best! Her lectures are interesting, and she knows how to get students to participate in class discussions. She is very helpful when writing papers. Definitely do all of the readings, as most of her upper-level classes are reading intensive. I recommend her to all communication students.
Class wasn't to bad, everything that is expected of you is clearly stated. Class isn't hard to pass if you read the book as you go along the chapters that are covered in the lectures.
Awesome professor. She actually relates the course material to fun examples with movie clips, tv episodes, etc. Even with a class of 100+, she does well with having the whole class participate and keeping everyone engaged. However, she is a tough grader and only a handful of people get As (as stated herself).
Stoner is awesome. She's sort of hard to read at first but don't be fooledshe's really really nice and funny, especially if you take more than one class with her. She super clear about what she wants. Do the work and you'll be fine. The work is interesting and relevant. Definitely take her if you can
Such a great teacher so much so that I miss her class. Her lectures are great and she makes class really fun. It is a lecture so there are only 4 grades, two papers a midterm and a final. The textbook really helps in understanding the material. Show up or you won't pass. She is very helpful and will adjust office hours to meet demand.
Great professor! She is funny and if you pay attention, you'll learn a lot from her. There are two papers and two exams (midterm and final). If you need help or have any questions, she's great with getting back to you.
She's hilarious and the lectures were always interesting and very personal!
I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!! I would take my discover class all over again if I could. She always brought life into the class. She's funny, smart, helpful, and overall a fantastic professor. Most of our homework was common hour (taught by other two assistants) but she only gave us one Discussion question to do each week (it's easy if you do it right).
This was my favorite class freshman year! She uses relevant, modern day examples to further explain the topics. I laughed out loud in every class, my friends even compare her to Tina Fey. She assigns weekly reading from the text book and only gives 2 essays, a midterm, and a final. If you need to take COM101, take it with Stoner!!
Only 4 grades in this class, 2 papers and 2 exams. Grading doesn't really make sense, counts off significantly for random things, hard grader. Notes are necessary for writing papers and exams
Adriane is amazing and she is the most hilarious and down to earth professor I have ever met! Sometimes students never even wanted to leave the class once we were dismissed. That's how great her lectures were. BEST!! highly recommend!
Adriane is amazing and she is the most hilarious and down to earth professor I have ever met! If you want hilarious lectures and great discussions then take her!! highly recommend!
LOVE HER. She is super kind but also absolutely hilarious. Could not have asked for a better 1st communications class, got me totally hooked. The lectures aren't vital to passing but they definitely help a ton with the papers and tests!!
This class was tougher than I expected, but I learned a lot. Be sure to take the four assignments very seriously. Two papers and two exams, 25% each. Her classes are interesting and enjoys people who come in and ask for help when they need it.
Professor Stoner is the best. If you are a communication major don't graduate without taking a few of her classes
The class itself is not difficult, but this professor is a tough grader. Doesn't give a lot of feedback.
Really simple to do well because communication is just logic. Do all of the AE's (short answer questions) and quizzes (easy quizzes if you read the bolded words in the textbook) every week. She's willing to review all of your AE's if you email her. You don't have to show up if you have someone that could send you her lecture notes but I did.
ADRIANE IS MY FAVORITE! Her lectures were absolutely amazing and full of personal anecdotes that kept everyone engaged and spirits high! I would HIGHLY recommend her for any class! We only had one assignment per week which was a small reading that was so basic if you did it correctly. TAKE. HER. CLASS!
This was my first online class and it ended up being easier than I expected. All you have to do is read one chapter a week, post discussion questions, take the 10 question quiz, and an application activity. Really simple criteria, but just make sure you meet the deadlines. Highly recommend, I promise you wont regret it.
Took her for CMN 101 and have taken a class with her ever since. Such a fun professor and makes you look forward to coming to class. She is very knowledgeable on the topics you discuss in class and provides a really interesting insight and perspective on them. I have learned valuable information in her classes.
A Queen. This was my second class with A Stoner and she did disappointment. Her comedy is on point and I'm just trying to avoid having a quarter without her at this point. Like, What is DePaul without A Stoner? If you complain about the work then you're a lame because her class is so interesting that I would write a twenty page paper.
I've had Adriane as a professor previously, and each experience with her has been great. She's also super open to talk about any class topics in case you're confused, and is willing to help with papers. You do have to do your reading though, or at least skim if you want an A. Super awkward when she called on me and I hadn't read.
A. Stoner is so funny, so relatable, and overall just amazing. Her class isn't hard, just do the assignments and make sure to be in class on days you do in class activities. Quizzes online are easy and can be taken twice, paper is clear and easy, I used the book mostly for quizzes and papers but didn't read much for class. Awesome class. Take her!!
Stoner is one of the best professors I've had at DePaul. Very clear grading criteria, only two papers, weekly online quizzes with your textbook. She uses hilarious personal stories to explain material and all in all is a great lecturer. Felt like I actually learned something.
Professor Stoner is a really great teacher and highly recommend you take her class! Although there are a lot of lectures hers are fun and easy to follow. She gives great feedback and is available outside of class. You must read the textbook because it will help you on quizzes. The textbook is not bad probably one of the better ones I have read.
Would recommend her class, one of the best classes I've taken. She's hilarious! The topics are relevant. Have to submit discussion questions once a week based on readings but they're never shared publicly. All lecture class + everyone has to do 1 group presentation (but it's easy). Have to participate in lectures but it's not bad. Textbook: 1 book
Correction: Actually 2 textbooks. The class is a lot of reading btw. There are weekly readings plus you are expected to read a book at your own pace by the end of the quarter. Midterm & final are papers. She's a nice, cool teacher and I would recommend taking her class!
Loved this class! Show up and take notes and you should be fine. The grade was pretty much just two papers that were easy to write, weekly online quizzes, and once a week in class group projects that took like 10 minutes to do
A. Stoner is hilarious, her class isn't hard either. Just show up on the days you have group activities, do your best on the online quizzes and you'll be just fine.
Easy class. She's really funny and uses creative examples. Genuinely enjoyed going to classes. Grades participation, attendance effects this minimally. Notes are all online, missing or skipping was easy enough. Two 5 page essays in the term and weekly online quizzes on the lecture. Do the quizzes, they're weighted fairly high for 10 minute of work.
I love the class! The professor is very entertaining, she gives great lectures!
I can honestly say this discover course with this professor was probably the best experience I had in an academic setting. The lectures were everything you could want - they were smart, they were fun, they were relevant. She definitely has a stance on most issues, I challenged her and she is really open to anything. Take her, shes the best.
Nice lady, but shes a bit too harsh of a grader considering its an introductory course.
Prof. Stoner is really cool and funny, which make her lectures interesting. She gives good feedback and respects her students.
A LOT of work for a 101 class. It wasn't necessarily hard, just time consuming. If you're great at writing papers it should be easy, although she's a tough grader and docks off points for every little thing.
Excellent professor. But not an easy class, no matter what it is. She makes you work for a good grade. She's really smart so grading on papers can be tough, but she guides you on how to do better. SUPER funny and chill prof too
She takes off points easily.
Stoner is a lot of fun and makes material relatable. 2 papers and other easy assignments I can't even remember them. Her class is all lecture but she makes it enjoyable and engaging. Your basic 101 class taught paired with a cool, relatable, and real teacher. You'll enjoy her a lot, highly recommended
I just took Professor Stoner's Living Online class and she really knows what is going on in the subject and talks about it in a very fun and interactive way. Don't take her if you don't like discussion-based classes. There was a bit of work to do--one review due every week, a group presentation, and two papers. Super interesting and very hilarious.
Dr. Stoner is a nice woman however I felt in the first half of the term she was very cool but then after midterms she changed especailly when finals were right around the conrner and she was very annoying about having no cell phones in class and she even makes you leave your phone on the table in the center of the classroom for the entire lecture.
I've taken Dr. Stoner before for living online the class is structed pretty simliar to that where you do weekly discussion question papers a midterm and final paper and a group presentation overall not too bad as long as you show up do the required readings and you're not required to read a novel before the end of the term like on living online
LOVE HER. Get ready to read but this class is so worth it. All of the topics are really interesting and I enjoyed every class. A 2-3 page discussion every week and 2 papers but they're interesting to write. Take this class!!
I LOVE HER! This class was amazing and she kept every lecture hilarious & beyond informative- I learned SO much while laughing my ass off. Honestly, her homework is hard. You have to really analyze the content and cannot rush it. She also grades hard so take your time to digest the readings. All beyond worth it though! One of my smartest professors
Dr. Stoner is so funny and makes her lectures extremely interesting. I took her Dark Web class and it was one of my favorite classes I've taken while at DePaul. It was informative and applicable to real life. She kept me laughing during lectures and was really relatable and personable. Just take her class!!! You won't regret it.
She assignments a huge 100 point project that you complete each work over the course of the class. Hardly gives any feedback on the assignments so you dont know if you did good or not because its graded solely on if you completed all the requirements. I felt as though I could never please her with my discussion board posts. Tough grader
She joes around a lot while also valuing respect. She is laid back, doesn't flood you with work. She makes sure you understand the criteria. She is very authentic and doesn't act like she's superior because she's the professor. You can have a genuine conversation with her. You will definitely enjoy yourself in this class.
Best professor at DePaul. Taking her Bachelor Nation class was so much fun! we talked to so many people from the franchise. There's an assignment due once a week and DB every other week. Not much work and super fun!! loved it
This is my first time having Adriane as a professor and Im absolutely loving her class! Even though we talk a lot about theory, rhetoric, etc. she makes it easy to understand and is very relatable. I appreciate her sarcasm and humor overall, she makes going to class enjoyable.
I took the discover Chicago love and committed relationships. It was awesome. Discover week we went cool places. The rest of the quarter was informative but fun discussions/lectures. She's super chill and we had a great community in class.
she is nice but she is so stingy on her grading it is so annoying. for an 101 class this is a lot of work. "would I take this class again"- i would have to think about it
Dr. Stoner is the best professor I had at DePaul. Her 300 level communications classes are some of the most interesting classes at DePaul. I have never taken a class where I never wanted the class to end. I would highly recommend taking one of Dr. Stoner's classes if you get the opportunity to!!
Adriane is amazing. Discover Week was way more worth it than having the class for an extra 3 weeks. One writing assignment a week. Class can get long sometimes but thank god it's split up with common hour. I liked both parts of the class. Engaging, knowledgeable, and fun.
she is awesome. lenient grader, really insightful readings and covers wide range of topics. very down to earth and didn't take points off for all my spelling errors on papers lol. doesn't stray away from uncomfortable topics and doesn't force participation in discussion. papers are easy, no final or midterm. take her for real.
Living Online exceeded my expectations. You learn many relevant things not just related to communication and media and all course material was relevant and interesting. Adriane is super inclusive for all students and open-minded. Class sessions were chill and engaging. No final, no required materials, no long essays!
she's amazing and makes the material seem super easy. she uses a lot of current media and topics so it's interesting for us. participation is a BIG part of the grade and she can be a bit tough grading papers but is willing to help in and out of class. would take her again
The class was easy to follow on the syllabus but did use many slides and discussions during class which did count for credit to participate in. Attendance does also matter. There is an article or two required to read for each class with an essay.
doesn't even talk abt communication. spent the whole class thinking it was her OTHER communication class.
This class content is really interesting but unfortunately she is a really bad professor. Attendance is so important and even if you are 2 minutes late she will take off 50% of your attendance for that week. Don't recommend this professor at all.
Plays fav w selective students. Will give you 50% for the week if you don't speak every class. Her class js just a trauma dump session and the last 10 minutes she spits actual content at you. Always a week late on her schedule so good luck everything is mushed into 10 minutes at the end of class / her smooching to her favorite student
I seriously love Adriane so much! I had her for my Discover Chicago class so she was my first impression of the classes and professors at DePaul. I felt heard and important in her class. For example, I couldn't participate in one of the activities because of external factors but she made sure to accommodate me and made sure I didn't feel excluded.
Her ARE assignments are super unclear. We have to analyze the content for the week before she even lectures on it which I would understand from a hybrid class but its not one. She is always like 2 weeks behind of grading so good luck implementing the feedback that she gives which is little to none! I also agree with the favorite students comment
teacher is queen her classes are so fun there is so much participation and opportunity for discussion. she can be a bit of a strict grader, but there aren't too many big assignments. she's great and she can talk about anything! super fun and funny and chill.
Professor Stoner creates such amazing class sessions, and on such interesting topics. I would highly recommend signing up for a class with her if you're looking for a fun communications elective. There are weekly essays and one group presentation, but other than that no major assignments.
I had her for CMNS 340. She's super chill and gives you one no-questions-asked extension per quarter which is cool. She has a tendency to play favorites and takes points away if you don't talk in class. She says she has an attendance policy but isn't strict about it. She totally encourages trauma dumping so if that's not your thing, stay away.
For an async class, lot of work. Not a good class for procrastinators.
Waste of time.
