I returned to school after being off for many years to take one class for my personal enrichment. All the math I studied in the past was very theoretical and this class gave me a chance to apply what I learned without all the proofs. The professor gave clear lectures and the book was helpful in my studies. I recommend this class to others.
Probably the best professor since attending AR. Very high energy made class time go by very quickly even though the class was at night. Very helpful and many opportunities to practice what was learned. Instruction made learning easy. Tests were always on what was taught. Would recommend this class.
Only take this class if you need to refresh your alg 2 skills. Lectures are unclear and rushed. Prof isn't clear when answering questions and sometimes does not answer the questions asked, saying either that she will answer later or that she has already lectured on that topic. Had to watch online tutorials to do homework. Would not recommend.
Do not take her unless you received an A Math 120. She expects you to know what she is explaining before she explains it. Do not take her! Comes off very hard!
I don't know if it was just her personality but she just always seemed like she had somewhere else to be. She lectured very quickly. When she was done half the class would look with blank stare. After a while I got tired of asking her to repeat herself and ended up dropping. By the time I dropped more than half did the same. not hard just confusing
Professor is extremely rushed, she gets annoyed easily when students ask questions and the tests are not easy! She is not very approachable, and acts like you should already know how to do everything. I would not recommend to others.
Took this summer class and I wish I would have seen the rates before I did. The professor is very rushed and expects you to know everything. Would not recommend her to anyone just because of the way she teaches. The one good thing she did was grade on a curve.
Took this over summer and I wish I hadn't. She expects you to know everything and cut out sections of chapters, she caused us to miss a lot of time from missing 2 classes and cutting class short by an hour each class. Says she curves the scores at the end but then doesn't. I emailed her 3 times, no reply. I have a 3.6 GPA and got a C
Extremely rough on grading. Better pay attention or you'll fail. Study hard for the final because that's cumulative. No textbook required so that's good.
One of the worst professors out there. Pop quizzes which make no sense and then on top of that she gives homework which is nothing like the class examples and she is also a really really hard grader. Do not take her.
No book reqd which sounds great at 1st but her examples dont match the HW at all. And she's not approachable or friendly to ask questions. She always seems annoyed at the class. And rolls her eyes if you ask Qs. Had to drop her class. She doesn't care whether her students succeed or not. Do NOT take her class. I had a high GPA until her.
This Professor is fanrastic. All of her lecture notes are typed for us. She posts them on D2L along with comprehensive exam reviews. Tough grader but very approachable. Has office hours before every class. Some of the problem set hw is tougher than notes, but 90% covered on exams. Tells you exactly what she wants. Expect to work hard.
Horrible teacher. Notes do not match up with problems on quizzes or tests, I had a hard time with the notes so I went to her tutoring before class and she just stands there and asks "how do you not understand this?" instead of actually helping you. Rolls her eyes if anyone asks a question. Disgusting attitude, would not recommend to anyone.
Take at your own risk! The few problems covered in class are not enough to be able to complete homework or pass exams. The exam study guides do not slightly resemble the material you'll find on an exam. I'd suggest renting the optional textbook because you'll find more help there than in the classroom. If you can teach yourself math you'll be fine.
She's a really hard teacher but you can pass if you work your ass off! She's a hard grader. 2 midterms and a final with some extra credit. Really happy to pass. Just study her reviews and you should be fine.
Great Prof! It is a hard class but if you put in a full effort you can pass. I learned a lot from this class. She gives out great study guides that really help for exams.
A nice lady BUT she is a horrible teacher. Take my advice do NOT take her! There is no textbook required which sounds great instead she has her own textbook she created and teaches from BUT we are not able to access it. She loves to mark off points for the smallest errors and none of her reviews match exams/hw so it's hard to see your mistakes
Always seems extremely angry. Constantly makes mistakes that make it very hard to understand the material because there is no book to help. Inconsistent in all aspects of grading. She will snap at you if you ask her questions during office hours with minimal help. In class she will explain further (rudely but at least it gets done).
Picky grader. Work must be done to how she wants it or she docks off points. Lectures are not entirely clear, follow up explanations usually doesn't help. If you aren't a genius, you will have to do a lot of self teaching. Quizzes/exams do not match hw or lecture notes. Had to drop the class because I couldn't keep up with the fast (hurried) pace.
I should have paid attention to the bad reviews, but I didn't. She's not a good math prof. Exam reviews do not match the material you'll see on the exams. She has a chill vibe that doesn't prepare you for exams, and gets frustrated when students don't understand the material she teaches, but doesn't explain. AVOID IF POSSIBLE.
She is an amazing teacher. Tough grader like most but overall has a very caring and kind personality. Definitely a challenge but I recommend her!
Loved her!
Such a nice teacher! Put in the effort and youll get a good grade
Great professor. Tells you exactly what she wants and where she will give and take away points. Give a details when grading homework and is always available for help. I definitely needed to study more at the beginning, but she really helped me u understand the material.
I'm so bummed that Prof Avila was only teaching the first half of math100. I have never been good at math, but I love her style. She made me feel confident and even when I thought I was asking a stupid question she was always patient and tried to explain it to me. Her exam questions come from the homework. I can't wait to take her for math 120
I had to drop her class because of work but she is a really good teacher. All her notes are printed for you. She does a review after every section and the tests are just like the notes and review. No surprises. She told us the final would be questions from the 4 tests too. Prof Avila helped me after class too. I hope she teachers Calc again soon
Prof. Avila is the best Math instructor Ive ever had. Math has always been my week subject, but she was able to explain things from multiple points of view. After taking her class I feel much more confident with my math skills. She assigns a lot of homework, but it is always related to the test. She also provides extra credit opportunities.
I dont see why anyone can dislike her. Dropping math the past 2 semesters, to getting an A in her class just doesnt normally happen; but it did for me. She kept asking us questions, making sure we knew what we were doing. No pressure or groups. Homework was due 2 days after assigned, so we could ask questions the next day before it was due. A++!!
Unpreparedness for lectures after the semester got underway. Taught "cookbook" methods, at times showed up with worksheets to do in class so she didn't have to lecture the full period. Knew the material but tried to "wing it." Taught too many classes at once? Jumped around in the online book. Pre-tests vary from tests. Take-home final!
Was gonna rate her a 2 bc I learned more from watching 15 min youtube videos than sitting in her class for 2 hours twice a wk, but bumping it to a 3 bc she's willing to help students. (but be careful she always look "pissed" when you continue asking questions) We also had a take-home final which I gladly took, but really? Talks about her marathons.
Good teacher but I don't exactly prefer her teaching style (not very organized in my opinion). I did like that homework was due two class sessions after it was assigned to assure we understood the material and our tests were just questions pulled from the homework but re-worded. Had a take home final
Do not take her. She is very bad at explaining and assumes students should just know what to do. Every time a question is asked in class she rolls her ryes. Literally, just the worst at teaching ever!!!!!!
Professor gets an attitude when asked questions, and does not ever answer the question, ignores the question and goes off on some rant about something irrelevant to the question. Spends first twenty minutes of class going over the daily agenda. Docs points off work being shown if it is in a manner learned in a different class.
Do not take her! seems great that you do not buy a book, but her method is haphazard and full of errors. She embarrasses you when you ask a questions in class. Has office hours but snappy/unhelpful when you show up. HW almost nothing like lectures, stem tutors cant help Trick questions on tests. Class avg on test one was 42. Worst teacher ever!
Worst teacher I have ever had!!Homework nothing like examples given in class. You Plan on spending a lot of time with a tutor. If you ask her questions bc you are lost she gets upset. Just as grumpy when you use office hours. Does not use a book or on line homework bc she thinks her sloppy method is best. Avoid her if you need this class to transfr
I hate this professor, she not a good person, she is disrespectful and boring. you won't pass taking her class she is very dull and teach with no excitement or energy.
Avoid this professor if possible. She is very rude and very disorganized. Final is graded way tougher than the other 2 tests and not at all like the homework.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. This is my first B grade in the semester and in math ever. I kept my grade A until the final exam she gave me D in the final. Dont expect her to respond to any of your emails. Unprofessional at all she doesnt like questions and makes mistakes all the time. Exams unlike the examples. Horrible.
if you want to see the level of rudeness and lack of understanding in presenting lectures then take her class. In fact, she was the worst professor in my entire college academic experience.
I am amazed that why ARC management aren't doing anything because this professor has no clue whatsoever how to behave and lecture students.
Very disrespectful and has no sense of professionalism. The work was easy and simple but, she made things a lot more complicated than they had to be. Tends to make mistakes.
I do not know what my grade is, but she is an okay professor
Tough class. She builds it all on applications of the topics. She definitely tells you exactly what she wants and how she will grade you. She grades homework exactly like her lectures. Exams are tough, but based on the reviews she gives. The best thing is that she gives you all of the answers to the homework and the reviews. Tough, but fair
I had to drop the class because of work issues, but this professor is the best I've had so far. She cares about her students. She really explained step by step how to do the problems. The day before the test she told us question for question what was on the test. She gives you videos to watch for extra examples that really helped.
Transitioning to an online class was tough for sure, but professor Avila made it as easy as possible. Every week she sent an announcement that had a list of all out assignments for the week. The modules she built had so many helpful videos. She was always available to answer my questions. She did a lot of zoom tutoring which really helped.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!! This is hands down the worst professor I have ever had in my entire time in college. I took her online class and she constantly was changing due dates, point values for assignments and tests. Any time students would email her asking why she is making mid semester changes she would respond very unprofessionally. STAY AWAY!
This professor is crazy. She is a horrible teacher. Her tests are insanely hard. She once belittled myself and my classmates constantly. When I started the class there was 40 students. When I left there was 15. She wants you to do 30 hours of classwork a week. She is a harsh grader. She should not be allowed to teach. PLEASE DONT TAKE HER!
Too unpredictable. Didn't follow her OWN syllabus & constantly changed the class structure/grading. Increased point value of assignments & weighted grade average for categories towards the end of the semester. Restricted everyone's access to class on Canvas immediately after the final due date, so we couldn't see our grade.
Dropped class due to her bad attitude and insane coursework load. Confusing assignments, class structure was so weird. Things like accidentally sending an email warning us for procrastinating in class before she even graded our assignments. Docking points for emailing a PDF that wasnt rotated correctly. So nitpicky and unhelpful.
The only form of teaching that's happening in this class is through videos and the textbook. I kinda thought there would be zoom meetings or recordings, but its seriously just the pearson videos. I don't know if having in-person classes would be any different. The work load is not worth it. Avoid this professor!!!
I took her class, despite all the reviews, and I heavily regret it. She was the worst professor I've ever taken. She DOCKS points over the dumbest, most unnecessary things. The workload, the boring videos, everything is NOT worth it. If you want your emails left unanswered and if you want to be stressed TF out, go ahead and take her.
The most unhelpful professor I have ever come across. Docks points in the most unnecessary things and course structure makes it hard to grasp concepts. There are no lectures, it feels like watching youtube videos and doing worksheets except you have to pay for it. Nitpicks the silliest things and makes the class much harder than it needs to be.
Doesn't lecture, gives homework by online videos and office hours are during working hours. Changes criteria for entering answers online during the course of class because it's easier for her to enter the answers for tests.
Worst professor ever , I am taking this course online due to corona and she gives NO lectures . You basically have to teach yourself calculus . She provides 2 minute random YouTube videos that are much simpler than the homework problems .
I cant believe there are a few positive reviews on her. Absolutely terrible at teaching online. Maybe teaching period. We are taking transfer units at a JC why on earth would you think its okay to make this class so intense. She doesnt follow the textbook problems (she thinks she does) and gives you no time on exams. Freaking proctored exams...
Although Avila seemed nice and was willing to meet for office hours, she was extremely picky about how you show work and not great at explaining the material. She might be better in person but I kind of doubt it. She does not curve her grades and from what I could see, many students dropped the course.
Professor Avila was a great professor! I had her over the summer for STAT 300 and she responded to emails very quickly. My biggest issue was that she was a pretty tough grader when it came to exams. If you don't show every single step of your work, even if it's totally unnecessary, or if you solve a problem differently, you will lose points.
It seems that she had a bad time when she was a student, that now she's taking it out on her classes. Ridiculous amount of work that will never end and isn't helpful. Very picky in her grading. The exams and homework don't match her lectures. When you try to communicate with her, she will give you the run around that its "you" not "her" Horrible!!!
Professor Avila really made a difficult class possible. She is available even on weekends for help. She gives you grading rubrics with every assignment so you know exactly how she is grading you. She gives you quizzes that match exactly what the test looks like. Great professor
I can't say enough good things about this professor. The main thing is to hold yourself accountable. She tells you exactly what you need to do well. She is always available for help. She does small lessons for what you need on the work submissions. If you dont put in effort then you wont pass.. any class. She is great.
People are brutal. This professor works REALLY hard for her students. After reading some bad reviews I took her class anyway. It's clear the bad reviews are from people who want an easy class and dont want to work for it. Put in the work and she is always available for tutoring to help you.
I really liked this professor. She lets you use notes on the quizzes and exams and tells you what you need to do for full credit before you take the exam. With the pandemic, I was struggling in general and she reached out to check in on me. Definitely go to tutoring if you don't know something. She is awesome and really gives a lot of feedback.
I am not good at math at all! Professor Avila really helped me get through this class. I went to her office hours almost everyday and she was always happy to help me.
This professor sucks! I did all the assignments and would understand all the homework but she always put some random stuff on exams. And I would ask her for extra help and she told me it was on me. And she wants you to write your format in the way she wants or she wont give you any credit.
No matter how much time, effort and one on ones you spend with her she will make your semester a living hell. Test and HW don't match. Creates confusion in her video lectures. 90% of my class dropped her. Even with outside help its difficult since problems are always different from what she "taught" you. GOOD LUCK if you believe the nice reviews!
This professor is Horrible. I'm currently in Her online course and it is horrible, she doesn't do her own lectures, its someone on Youtube teaching you the lesson. You have to do Learning Checks every week and the L.C. has to be in her format or you don't get any points. Lectures are different than the homework so it gets confusing. DO NOT TAKE HER
Excellent professor. She is tough, but she explains things really well. Weekly learning checks have the grading rubric given ahead of time so you know how she will grade. Requires a calculator, but teaches you how to use it.... and its required for the exams. You have to put in work daily! All assignments are due in 1 week. Tough but she cares
I think the hardest part for me was not being in a face to face class. But the professor is available 5 days a week and was always very helpful. She uses really good videos and shows you how to use the calculator step by step which is REALLY helpful. It was a lot of work, but thats just because its math and online. Don't procrastinate!
It is better for you to not take this class. You will hate it. This is not one of those tough but fair graders. She will take so many points off if you did not write your answer in a specific way. Ex: if you write answer: 2 Work: 1 + 1 and not 1 + 1 2 guess what that is major points off. You guess get the point.
This is the worst Professor I have ever had. I genuinely believe she wants her students to fail. She is extremely picky in the way she wants you to show work. She will take major points off if not done her specific way. Also, she wont let you review exams after they have been taken. So you have no idea what you did wrong and how to improve. Awful
Poor feedback, not respected by students or faculty, grading criteria never makes any sense. Lectures are poorly created and hard to understand - bad communication skills. A lot of handwritten work when most classes use online platforms like MyMathLab. This is easily the worst professor I have experienced.
She is the worst professor in arc. Hard on grading and doesn't match her lessons quiz and tests with her videos .I never had a Professor as difficult as her.
workload is too much. she will dock points off for the smallest things. hw points are insanely high and because she is such a harsh grader, theres little to no chance of passing unless everything is perfect. honestly do not take this class unless you hate your life. not worth it. worst prof i have ever had.
She is really bad in everything, take a while to grade, my grade in Algebra was A+ every year but she make me confuse, she give a lot of homework like really a lot you will not imagine it + quiz every week and exam every four weeks, then the Final is another exam
Lots of points were taken off for the smallest things and it's very vague as to what will be marked off. I'd feel like I had a firm understanding of the content, do well on the homework, then get confused by the exams when there was content we were never taught. Avoid like the plague!
It's just a bad time overall, math is a tough subject but this made it much worse. Puts up a facade that students can get "help," but the professor never answers any submitted questions. Grading is so rigorous that getting a question right has no relevance.
Mrs. Avila is the worst. She is extremely rude when you ask for help. She is available for support but she doesn't actually help. She just makes you feel like an idiot with her comments like 'Did you even listen to the lecture?' Another professor warned me about taking her class. I should have listened. My very first "C" grade. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I did ok in the class because I'm good with math and not because of the teacher. She is AWFUL! Lectures don't match the tests given. Don't dare ask her a question unless you want her to spend the entire time defending her lectures instead of helping you understand. I had to ask help from teachers at ARC that I didn't even have. True story.
ARC is scraping the bottom of the barrel. Professor Avila is a lousy professor. I don't know how she got this job. Does ARC not care at all about students anymore? She has not one iota of respect for us students. Lectures are all over the place. Can she PLEASE use a real book instead of her own stuff? I should have listened to these reviews.
She is one of the hardest teachers I had to deal with due to the fact she had kept marking me and my peers down for little things such as not putting "z(formula)ans". Also, you need to have good handwriting to take her class because she will mark off points. She has blatant inconsistencies with grading
Very picky teacher on exams. Unclear. Makes concepts harder than they actually are. Not worth it.
While the material in her stats class is easy to understand, you still get marked down for things such as not drawing a straight line on a graph. Notes are all over the place so you forget each of the hundred things she could mark you off for. Avoid at all costs.
Worst professor I've ever taken! Does not teach and grades very unfairly.
She wasn't using her own lecture videos. She expected us to do work a certain way but never really taught us how. The worst professor I have ever had. I ended up dropping the course.
Honestly the hardest class I've ever taken. I ended up dropping the course. I got docked points for small things, and my grade dropped 20% in one week. I earned an 85% on an exam, but my work submission dropped that score to a 35% bc she docks small things, even if you get answers right.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR EVEN IF YOU REALLY NEED THE CLASS. DO NOT. PLEASE. FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. I've never failed a class in my life until now. I'm a straight. A student, and usually do well in all my classes even if they're more advanced. Even if you think you're smart, I promise you, you will struggle in this class and stay up nights crying.
First of all, she doesn't even teach it herself. She uploads another professor to teach the lessons. And the videos she does record herself, aren't helpful at all. Second, she grades very harshly. She marks of points for every little mistake. The material isn't even hard, it's her grading that drops your grade. She also never provide extra credit.
Took this course over the summer (8wks). This teach is rude, unsupportive, meticulous, and her work expectation is unachievable. She uses another professor's lectures who is AWESOME but her material doesn't match the concepts. She is a harsh grader, she is rude, and she should not be teaching if she has no slack for patience. Student needs support!
I'm taking this professor currently. OMG this is the worst professor ever. She is very rude and disrespectful. She even uses someone else's lectures. She can't even answer questions without being dismissive and frustrated. I've never had another professor that is always angry and "put off" by questions. Avoid professor at all costs.
This professor is the worst! She is so bitter. All of her lectures are from another teacher (2hrs long) and she gives you about 2-3 lectures at a time! HEAVY note taking and a lot of formulas that she doesn't even share with you. She can be rude. She makes you take tests live (recording you, eww) DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! You will regret it!
This course is definitely passable... IF YOU WANT TO RIP OUT ALL OF YOUR HAIR!! A lot of the lectures are not her own videos and when she did answer questions they were very vague. The lack of teaching makes it incredibly difficult to know if you're doing it right, especially when she is a tough grader. Please do take a different professor.
She spends an hour telling a lecture in class, which in reality was a lecture ripped from another professor because she absolutely adored the quarantine era where you can leech off of the work of greater educators and do nothing yourself. Most of your assignments will be completely unrelated to what you learned, and tests even more so.
I would never take this professor again or suggest anyone take her if you wish to have any chance at passing this class. She is NOT helpful at all. Uses other professors lectures.. does not teach.. does not answer questions. Will give you an F if you dont draw a perfectly straight line.. rude.. rude.. rude..
DROP CLASS WHILE YOU CAN. Taking STAT 300 online. She uses lecture videos from a wonderful professor in Merced who actually teaches well and is easy to understand but when you have to do the Learning Checks and the Exams it does not make sense. The tone in her responses can be interpreted as rude and directs you to the rubric when you ask for help.
This professor was AWESOME. She gives guided notes that go along with all of her lectures. Step by step guidance to solve problems. She gives the grading rubrics for all learning checks and exams before the test and you get to use your notes on exams.... I'm not sure why people say to avoid her. She gives detailed feedback and happy to talk to me.
Math isn't my strong suit. This professor was really supportive. If you expect to barely watch the lectures and pass the class that ain't happening. But if you work hard and ask for help, you will do well.
I took this class even after reading the reviews. I'm so GLAD I did! She really cares about her students. Offers appointments even on weekends which I appreciated because I work full time and my schedule is crazy. Watch her videos, take good notes and ask questions. She is very clear and gives step by step instructions and good feedback.
I can honestly say that Ms. Avila is the worst professor I have ever taken. I can't tell you why she treats us badly or why she has such a bad attitude. I just know that she does. I'm good in Math so I did well, but because I had to learn it on my own. The first few times I asked questions she treated me like an idiot. I stopped asking questions
She was so bad our entire class created a private group on Facebook where we could discuss homework, assignments and talk about her constantly making us feel like losers when we ask questions. The Facebook group was the only safe place I could ask questions without fear of her questioning my intelligence. It's sad that we needed that safe place.
This professor doesn't deserve a 1 but that's the lowest rating I can choose from. She always has a grumpy grimace on her face and she can't stand answering questions. She doesn't explain things very well. It's like she barely knows the material herself. She's always unhappy. Why is someone who hates teaching a professor? Another ARC professor fail
i got an A in her class. her teaching is so-so. her lectures are all over the place. inconsistent. my bad rating is cause of her attitude. one minute she's nice. the next minute she's pissy and rude. she's fine until you need help. she gets defensive if you don't understand and wants to make sure you know it's your fault and not hers. not friendly
The material itself was not difficult but this professor was the hardest grader I have ever had. The grading criteria was very unclear and seemingly arbitrary. I would could get all of the answers right on an assignment and still get a D. When we would email her for help, she would just tell us to rewatch all the lectures and figure it out.
I never like to drop classes, but felt like I needed too.I wouldn't say this professor was absolutely horrible, but her grading system was extremely obnoxious and convoluted similar to a physics professor I had back in 2016.I was docked 10 points for a 2 segment problem that should have only been docked down only 5 points.I don't recommend her.
I scheduled a tutoring appointment to go over some of the marks this professor gave me on a homework set. The tutor couldn't figure out what I did wrong, once I submitted a pdf of the wrong assignment and got a 0 on a 250 point assignment. Unless you like college on hard mode avoid this professor.
Be prepared to have a professor who will only refer you to rewatch the videos when asking for help. She's either lazy or doesn't know the material well enough to actually help with questions. "Watch the videos" is her go-to response when needing help. Like everyone else mention before, she has a really bad attitude and is very rude.
The class is not easy but everything iw taught step by step which is nice. You can use your notes on the exams and quizzes. Final wss multiple choice. Videos were good but long.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I wish I saw these reviews before I signed up for the class. Everything is true. From the haphazard grading to the rudeness. I am at a loss as to why ARC hired this lady. She doesn't fully understand stats, which is why she makes so many mistakes and gets frustrated if you ask a question outside of her comfort zone.
Been in this class since January and will probably drop it. The teacher is the really really bad. Always frowning and seems upset all the time. She is absolutely awful as a teacher too. I didn't read these reviews before signing up for her class but I wish I had.
This is the ultimate trifecta of bad professors all rolled up into one. First, she always has a negative/bad attitude that borders on just mean. Two --- She constantly makes mistakes in her lectures making it hard to follow along. Three -- Her grading system has no logic whatsoever. Trust me, You Can Do Way Better!! Choose a better teacher.
This professor is not friendly and doesn't know the material as well as a professor should. She is not professional at all. she makes you feel stupid if you ask a question.
Signed up for this professor because my friend has taken her before. Her lectures are very detailed and clearly explained. I am not good at math and almost dropped, but the professor is so kind and supportive that I stayed. She let us use our notes on the test which helped alot. Im glad I stayed.
I enjoyed how the Professor broke things down in a way that we could understand. Statistics is new subject for me but, and I will need it for my future career. I am so thankful for flexibility for our class. One of the best professors and classes I have ever taken.
I was hesitant based on the reviews but the class was not difficult. Prof gave feedback and a grading scale for each quiz/test. The final was multiple choice! A little strict on grading but nothing different than any other professor I have had. Don't believe the hype. If you work hard you will do well.
My online Saturday course for Math 333 was very easy. We met online every saturday morning. Mrs avila was very nice and always helpful. I was going through some hard personal stuff and she just listened which is waht I needed. I want to take her again once I am readyt for higher level courses.
I needed this class for my major. Prof Avila is a great teacher and really helped me understand how to actually do math in this class and in general. I highly recommend taking her class in person especially if you are someone who struggled with math or have an anxiety. She's very approachable and understanding.
Simple class if you pay attention .Class is not proctored but you must show your work or you will not do well. This is not a class you can google and pass like some of the ones I have taken. Watch the videos, take notes pay attention to detail.
I really appreciated how much time Prof Avila took to help me pass Stats. She was very patient and a true gem. Offers a ton of extra credit towards exams and let us use all notes on tests. You can't do an online class halfway. You will pass easily if you watch the videos and ask for help. Super kind and understanding.
STAY AWAY from this professor. She goes out of her way to mark you down, even if you are 100% correct. Heaven forbid your answer isn't perfectly worded. Oh, and she has a non-stop bad attitude.
Class is tough but fair. The grading can be difficult to watch the videos. Lots of extra credit that helps with your tests section. You get to use your notes on the test so take good ones and you will do fine.
Please be aware. Every single negative review or comment made in this review section is 10000% true. I have never had a worse and more diminishing experience with a professor of a BEGINNING MATH CLASS. People like this need to stay away from teaching. DO NOT TAKE HER
Out of all the classes I have taken at ARC this stats course this is the one that made me cry I felt genuinely broken each time I ran into a problem on a test that was not covered in the lectures. I am not joking about that, I am currently taking her online stats course and she uses a program that quizzes you on things that the lectures don't cover
DO NOT TAKE HER!! Save your money, time, and precious GPA! Her grading system makes absolutely no sense. Super particular about how you show your work, and docks of small points if you don't do things "her" way. She has an attitude and seems kind of upset when people ask her questions. I truly regret taking her for STAT300.
poor communicator, responds dismissively or combatively to questions. Grading on tests is extremely picky and poorly communicated. Feedback on what you got wrong is also extremely limited and unhelpful, emails for further explanation are short, aggressive and unhelpful.
Never have I had a professor with such a bad attitude. She immediately gets angry if you ask a question. Questions on tests that were never covered in lectures. I thought these bad reviews were exaggerated...... NOPE. She's exactly how people reviewed her. Taking her was the biggest mistake of my college experience. Why has she not been fired?
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS PLEASE. This is the worst teacher you will ever have. Take my word for it. She doesn't give a damn about any of her students and just likes to abuse her power by giving you an F on all work submission assignments. If you enroll in STAT 300 and see you have this teacher drop out immediately. Don't waste your time. You'll fail.
Worst professor I have ever had!! Feedback on wrong answers is very limited and not helpful. I would spend hours of studying and couldn't pass tests. This class stressed me out so bad that I had to take a semester off for my mental health. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Her load of coursework was equal to having a FT job or more.
Listen to the reviews, do not take her. I should have read the reviews before taking her class.
I had a really good experience in her class overall despite a rough start. Plenty of homework, but the lectures were clear and concise. Her grading can be quite strict, but if you actually follow and take notes on her lectures, it's clear what information you need to include. Definitely a class you need to pay attention to.
Horrible Horrible Horrible Horrible professor. Prepare to take 16 week course equivalent to two 8 week courses on steroids. Unfair grading, the notes have nothing to do with the assignments. Its subject after subject every week with absolutely zero time to comprehend any of it. DO!!! NOT!!!! TAKE!!!! HER!!!! OR DROP HER NOW!!!!!
The professor grades completely unfairly. If you get her, drop her class immediately. I took this class dual enrollment to take STATS online. I am a senior in highschool, have taken multiple dual enrollment classes and 10 APs in high school. I have gotten all As throughout high school. I am STRUGGLING to get my grade above a 60%.
Avoid taking this professor if possible. Her teaching style is very rigid, and she doesn't provide helpful feedback. However, using unstuckstudy and other study resources like ChatGPT can help you prepare for her challenging tests.
In my 20 years of being a student, and two and a half semesters of college under my belt, never in my life have I had a professor like her, she is rude, uncaring, strict, and confusing, listen to the reviews, get another professor or get a different class.
Read the reviews!!!!! Do not take this professor, please take any other teacher!!!
I PROMISE you any other teacher is better than her I mean it. Grading is all over the place (I received 0/60 on my work submission check even though I'm guaranteed points for turning it in on time with my physical ID), her tests are confusing and don't follow the HW, and I genuinely don't think she cares. She doesn't want you to pass. I promise u
Do NOT take this course with this professor. She requires perfection in your assignments and quizzes. Her expectation is unatainable. She does not help when you meet with her.
Genuinely one of the worst teachers I have ever had, I don't know how she has never read these reviews and seen that she needs to change. The strictest grading I have ever experienced, the rudest teacher ever. Please, please please save yourself the trouble and take any other class or any other professor, read the reviews, and just don't do it.
Very tough grader. I have been a straight A student all my life and when I took this class, I got the worst grade ever. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, she is an extremely rigid grader. Be prepared to suffer.
I took Math 333 with her and I totally regret it. Professor Avila does not teach, she literally sits in class browses the internet, and tests on her phone. She leaves all the teaching to the modules and the student tutors in the MLC. She should not be employed by ARC she is rude and cold.
I practically had to self-teach myself most of the material because her lecture videos were too fast, monotonous, and didn't help guide through the material. She is a VERY strict grader. If you were to label something even slightly different than how she particularly wants it, BOOM partial credit. Points go bye bye!
CONTACT THE MATH DEAN ASAP! Worst grading I've ever experienced. STAT 300 is an intro class but felt like rocket science. Lectures are unclear, and assignments don't match the exams. Lose points for minor labeling issues. Completely unfair and stressful course.
Worst professor ever! Took this class to avoid taking Stats in high school, the first few weeks were good, but after a while her lectures becomes bad and very confusing. I should've dropped the class from the moment it became confusing and regret dropping it only later. Save yourself! Don't take this class with this professor.
I have been college for 3 years now and not ever would I think a teacher is so horrible. She doesn't grade work correctly and had terrible reference videos. ARC really needs to do a study and investigate this. WORST PROFFESOR EVER!!!!!!!!!
I have never had a teacher as horrible as this teacher. I seriously think that ARC needs to look into her teaching style and fix it. There is no way that one teacher should have 88+ 1/5 reviews and think shes doing good. In addition to that, she is cold, rude, disrespectful and clearly has a genuine dislike for her job and her students.
I have never experienced a Professor who could genuinely care less about their students as well as grades. I hired a tutor to help me with the course and I STILL FAILED. She is super strict and very stubborn. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!
dont take this class if you want a full head of hair
I took this course online and I can say nothing is actually being taught we must teach ourselves with reference videos which is really just videos on taking notes. If you fall behind one even one thing it will be hard to complete the class. If you know this math well then you might be okay
