They say she's going through some sort of crisis in her life, but that's no excuse for her teaching. She has a passion for her art, but she just can't teach (or get to class on time). Still, all you need to pass her theatre history class is to take good notes- she ain't too great at making tests. ;)

Wrong! She is NOT easy! A horrible, horrible teacher. She doesn't even outline a lesson plan... Her papers don't even make sense- she doesn't explain what she wants clearly, and grades us as if we're supposed to know what to do. An absolute joke of an educator and a liability to SMC.

I 1st saw AH & knew it would be an interesting term. When AH is focused class is great but due to all of the issues AH has she is only in class 1/2 the time & when there she wastes a lot of our time rehashing old info or discussing her life, at times i've liked her, but overall i'd say buyer beware.

She's really amazing! Expect to take a lot of notes and the more you study, the more likely you are to pass. The midterm was pretty tough, but I managed to do better on the final. Follow the instructions on the papers she makes you do for the plays. There's no doubt you'll fail this course. Just show up to class everyday and study hard! :)

Dr. Harrop is such an amazing professor! She is very passionate about the subject which makes lectures easier to follow along. She is also a very funny person. There is no textbook, tests are based off on what she says in class. Tests are very easy as long as you pay attention to her lectures, and to her review sessions before the test.

Sweet teacher and I learned a lot more about Theatre History. Professor Harrop is more informative about Theatre, then my high school teachers and that is saying something. :) She is a very easy grader just study and do the work and you'll be fine.

Doc here is an amazing human being. She loves theatre and I'm happy that she's doing it at SMC because she gives every bit of her heart when she teaches. Her love for old-school drama is her signature, and many students who want to do film will find it challenging to get big onstage. She's very accessible and warm. If you need help, just ask!

Professor Harrop appears to be a very miserable person. Her lectures are long & boring. It's clear she is very educated in Theater however her class was way too complicated. She snapped at several people throughout her lectures and she has NO Patience at all! I found her class to be stressful for no reason I dropped it! I would NOT recommend her

I can tell she really loves theatre and cares about her job and her students. However, She prefers acting that is very over the top, and often the scenes that the students loved the most were the ones she didnt seem to like. This class stressed me out. Still got a good grade. Really harsh critique but idk if her feedback is even helpful sometimes.

I didnt like Prof. Harrop at first- she had a short patience & temper & seemed a little distant from the class. But then i actually found myself liking being in her class. She can be hard sometimes, but she respects the stage and you if you bring it as an actor. Gives good feedback too. Has decades of experience. I felt i took the right course!

I believe she is very strict with critique on your work as an actor and doesn't provide as good constructive criticism as I would expect. She also is extremely harsh on people and way too specific with aspects of what she expects as an actor in her class. Often, she'd haunt you over a scene done averagely or more. She's quite the inspiration though

She has her favorites. If your not one of them, then youll have to grind even more to earn a good grade. Even if, you are a better actor than her favorites. She might even subtly try to discourage you, or sabotage your potential. I would find someone else to teach you acting, if you end being brushed off aside by her. She is respectful.

Dr. Harrop was one of the best acting teachers I ever had. I was worried about coming in because I have not had the best experiences with some acting teachers but the moment I walked in I knew she would make an impact in my life. Not only is she highly intelligent but she is so passionate about what she teaches. Please take her class!!!

I was taking this class online. She wanted us to choose our partners for scene 1. I had a difficult time trying to find a partner and sometimes my partner would take 5 days to respond. I also asked Doctor Harrop to send me my notes for my scene 1 and never sent them to me. How can I continue the class if their is no one that communicates properly?

No homework, 2 show papers, 3 movie papers, 1 midterm and a final. Review session before each exam. Class ends early. Prepare to write everything she says. It would be hard for international students not fluent in English to catch up. Midterm is tricky, but the final is easier. I took this class for GE but gained a lot of informative knowledge.

Old School. She's been around longer than the theatre building itself. She stands out from other LA acting teachers because she really wants to get the best work out of every student. Never take any of her feedback personally because she will be honest and she will be brutal. I grew so much as an actor and director just from one class with her.

This is a very learn-by-doing kind of class, & she runs her class very much in style of a director, viewed in this lens her techniques make a lot of sense & are useful preparation for auditions & working in a production. She teaches acting technique as opposed to acting method, this made me feel very good about taking this class from the beginning.

I have taken many courses with this professor and was cast as a lead in one of her shows. Truth is she is very knowledgeable and loves theatre. But she is old school in her societal views which seeps into her lectures and grading of scenes. Perhaps her greatest strength contradicts her teachings- that is she is an actress herself on/off stage.

Despite some controversial opinions about Dr. Harrop in here and overall at SMC, I did had a great experience with her. Ask her questions, let her know why you're in her class and be humble. She's been doing this for years, so she has a lot of knowledge to share, just show up and have commitment with yourself, your scene partner and take her notes!
