His lectures are very interesting. Most of the exam questions are from notes (so attend the lectures), but he throws in some from the book as well. He's a very helpful professor, and he has several TAs so it's easy to get assistance.
He is really, really interesting. This class is actually FUN and he always answers students questions, no matter how "dumb" they may sound. He is also pretty hot :)
Great teacher that is truly supportive. He answers everyone's questions, and he gives the student enough time to write the slides down. Most of the test comes from the slides, so no skipping. However, he tends to spend too much time on certain topics.
Awesome professor. Very helpful, fun lectures, answers questions. Most of the exams come from the notes, so going to class is a must if you want an A. Some of the exam questions come from the book as well.
This was my favorite class. He makes the material really interesting. The only bad thing about the class was all of the stupid, irrelevant questions some of the students had, but he always found a way to answer them in a way that applied to the class. The most annoying part was reading the long, boring articles for the reaction papers :P
Dr. Boals is a great teacher to take if your taking pysch for the first time. He makes the class interesting and you actually enjoy being in his class. He does answer every question whether its dumb or not. Its his first year at UNT and he did a great job.
I loved his class!! He made psychology so interesting! I only had him Wed for 3 hrs, but I always looked forward to his class. He makes the class really interesting, and gives you all these neat facts. It was one of my favorite classes.
Nice professor and really interesting guy!
This class is great if you want to joke around instead of learning. The tests were easy and didn't require any studying.
Awesome teacher. I never got sleepy in this guys class. You learn alot of interesting stuff in this class
He knows his stuff and was extremely supportive when I asked him for recommendations. He is very friendly and easy to talk to if you go to his office.
Makes even a 9am class interesting and funny! Great prof: very knowledgable and helpful in and outside of class. He made Learning and Memory very interesting (the book is terribly dry) and his test were mostly from lecture. Highly recommended for serious students.
Professor Boals is awesome. General Psychology has quickly become my favorite class this semester. His lectures are interesting and he always makes class fun. The other day he even did the moonwalk. Best class ever.
Interesting enough. I hate how kids in the class will continue to raise their hand and ask the same question that the person before them asked. He's really quite patient with them.
Great teacher.Highly reccommend him to anyone, whether psych interests you or not. Doesn't take attendance, but you'll falil exams if you don't go to lecture. Book reading isn't mandantory but 10% of questions come from reading. He makes class very interesting, and not just for nerds. Very easy to pass, gives plenty of time to copy notes.
He is very funny and is really knowledgeable of what he's teaching. I remember when he did the moonwalk in class, he always make class fun. You're going to need your textbook because 10% of the tests are in the text. One of my favorite professors and he frequently shows the class YouTube videos to help you learn better.
The best professor I've ever had. He knows what he is teaching. He makes it fun to learn. You can earn extra credit, and the tests are mostly from the notes in class, but 10% comes from the book. The only thing I didn't like was that he does not round our final grade up. If your grade is an 89.5, then you get a B. Other than that I loved the class!
Great
Amazing teacher! The best one aside from Dr. Ruiz that I have had at UNT. Makes the topic fun and easy to understand.
He is pretty much the best professor I have had yet! He's pretty humorous and is helpful. He knows what he's talking about and he makes class interesting. He gives extra credit and really tries his best to teach us his material. The test is made up from the notes, but if he says to read something, read it!
Amazing teacher. Very inspirational. Though the class was not easy he was great at making me feel interested. I actually looked forward to attending this class. He even did the moonwalk in class (i have a video) if we promised that we would find one thing we did and didn't like about what our parents did, and promise to do it differently.
Well, he is a great lecturer, or rather, he is adept at regurgitating the textbook in a interesting way. However, if you are a decent student or seriously care about learning you will want to take a different class as he can offer little insight, only personal anecdotes. Even so, class is extremely easy.
He is a fun guy who tries to make class interesting. However,if you expect to have a lecture in which the professor stays on topic, he might not be the guy for you. He goes on tangents a bit, but tries to tie them back to lecture...sometimes.
I had him for learning & memory, and it was a great class! He does research in this area and definitely knows his stuff and makes it easy for you to understand (which the book does not do so much). He has students write small essays as quizzes, so keep up on your studying because the topics are unknown beforehand.
I love Dr. Boals. He is interesting, funny, and he made me fall in love with psychology! Very informative class! He is the best Psychology teacher at UNT, hands down!
This is a very good teacher. He seems fairly young, because he can relate concepts to what a typical student might experience, but he still maintains a very wise adult demeanour. In short, he can make a crowd of immature youngsters understand complex material without much difficulty at all.
Great. He is so funny & relates difficult material to lots of youtube videos. He is pleasant to talk to as well. He is so cute & I have no idea why such an brilliant man as he is not married! He is so smart! He knows his stuff! He is simply, GREAT!
Professor Boals is awesome! When in the class you must read though because on the exams he takes questions out of the reading. He gives extra credit, and also drops the lowest exam grade! He likes to tell jokes and have a good time. If taking psychology I recommend Boals to you. He is a great teacher.
Dr. Boals is an awesome instructor. He makes the lectures interesting and really helps you understand the concepts of psychology. His exams are fairly easy and you have to do critique papers that are due about a week after every exam. His class encouraged me to switch my major to psych. Overall, great professor.
Dr. Boals is an alright teacher, but he is very boring. His notes do not fully cover what is on the test and his tests have very specific questions that you would have to remember exact things from. Even if you're educated in the main idea, you can't always do well. His TA's have good lectures, the critique papers are easy, the class is easy2pass
boring! He always repeats the same things over and over again. Treats the students like children. The class is easy to pass it just extremely lowered my interest in psychology.
Very interesting lectures...just study the notes and u will be fine
Good teacher!..interesting class
Great teacher...he is really hot...I would throw myself at him!
LAME. plus he is doesn't care if you have a 79.9 he'll still give you a C. Really? He doesn't have good lectures and the tests are very question specific.
Was a decent teacher in class, bur outside was very difficult to work with. Messed up my final grade twice, and seemed annoyed when I asked him to fix the problem. Policies are absurd as well: will not bump grade even if you're at a 79.99, and is very unwilling to work with students when they miss class (even for legit reasons).
I absolutely loved the class! Mr. Boal's lectures are so interesting! He uses YouTube videos that really help understand the concept! There isn't a lot of homework assigned so it's best to study hard so you do well on the tests. Study hard and do any extra credit offered and you'll get an A!
Great teacher. Made everything in his lectures very easy to understand and gave TONS of extra credit. A lot of people from my class complained about him not being very helpful, however he taught a class with around 500 students so to me that was understandable. Very good overall.
He was a good teacher, the class is very interesting and he speaks very clearly.
Really amazing teacher! My favorite class I've ever taken. I didn't even have to study hard because he makes it so easy to learn and pay attention. The class size is large but he makes himself heard, loud and clear. He is a nice guy and very knowledgeable. Wish I could have him in another class. I definitely recommend taking him!
His lectures are very interesting and he makes things easy to understand. However his grading system is a little off, if you do poorly on one test even if all the other test are high grades there is little room for you to make a good grade in the class even with the extra credit he gives.
Dr. Boals is quite interesting, but his grading policy is horrible with each of the 1st 4 test counting 15% each and your final at 20%. As one review stated, not doing well on one test (which are 15-20 m/c & 5 essay) can leave you barely making a C & Dr. Boals has little to no conscious when it comes to student's grades in his upper level courses.
Dr. Boals is an amazing professor! His Learning and Memory class was definitely my favorite of the semester. He's entertaining and knowledgeable, which provided for a great semester!
Dr. Boals made class very interesting. For a Summer class it was fast paced but the lectures contained most of the information. It proved helpful to do the assigned reading. Tests were fair based on the material. Great Job!
Dr. Boals is a wonderful lecturist and is very easy to follow along with when he lectures. He uses all types of ways to help you learn, including involving the audience/class by asking questions or wanting opinions, showing fun and on topic videos of what you're learning and going over the notes slide by slide. However, his tests aren't as easy
Professor Boals is one of the best psychology professors I've had. His tests aren't very long, and they're quite easy if you paid even the slightest bit of attention. He gets involved with a class of almost 500 students, which is a feat on its own. VERY highly recommend him!
Dr. Boals is my favorite professor and consequently makes Gen Psych 1 my favorite class. His lectures always seem to fly by. They're interesting and he uses youtube a lot too. The only thing is make sure you don't start packing up before he lets you go. It's a pet peeve of his and he'll make sure to let you know of that too. Great professor.
Best professor you can ever have for this class
He knows his material very well. Attendance is not mandatory but coming to class helps a lot. He is very fun and makes the material very interesting.
He's and AWESOME teacher. He makes all the material so interesting. He uses a lot of videos and power points to get his point across, which makes the class really easy. If you take the notes in class and scan through the book chapters, you should be able to ace this class. He's also really helpful if you need it.
He is pretty funny and makes things easy to understand
Very nice, helpful, and understanding.
He's probably the best professor you can have for this subject, he is so knowledgeable on the subject and actually makes it fun. He's fair and offers help whenever you need it. I would definitely recommend him and hope to have him again.
I took an AP psychology class in high school and hated it but I loved this class. Just go to all the lectures as they will be on the tests, mainly. It's actually easy to pay attention for a couple of hours to his lectures as they're always interesting.
He's one of the greatest professors I've had at UNT so far! Although the subject of the class isn't the most interesting in the world, he makes it worth-while. He's also very knowledgeable of the subject and explains everything well.
He actually makes class feel like it's worth going to. He's fun and goofy but it doesn't take away from his ability to teach. I would certainly recommend him to others.
This has to be one of my most favorite classes to attended during the week. The teacher is great, tries his best to help us and keep the mood lively among us. The material itself is very interesting and i would recommend this teacher to any Psych Major.
Awesome prpfessor! Really knows what he is doing and talking about. He made the class interesting, and even in a class of 500 he made class prticipation easy.
I loved going to this class, because I learned more than I thought I would, i cant wait to take the second part.
I hated this class! I thought it would be fun but it wasn't! I got a B, but that was only because of the extra work I did! This powerpoints had almost nothing to do with his test! DO NOT REC!
The best part of the this professor is that the final and attendance are both optional.I went to class maybe once a week and got a high A just from reading the book. He doesn't lecture as much as he should- he mainly shows videos and answers questions. He's a nice guy, but his class was boring to me. Read the book and you'll be great.
This class was literally my favorite I have taken at UNT thus far. Dr. Boals is by far my favorite teacher EVER and explains things very well. You can tell he loves what he is doing and takes pride in his students success. He is the best teacher.
Work is easy and relevant to the class. Dr. Boals is interesting and a very good professor
Dr. Boals is very helpful. He always tries to answer any questions you have to the best of his ability, and he does a good job at that. Easy class in my opinion, just study those notes! :)
Excellent professor. He enjoys his subject and is good at teaching it. You can skip class every once in awhile and be fine reading his power points and textbook flashcards. Easy class, definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to take psychology.
Dr.Boals is definitely an exciting professor he always kept me engaged. His test become harder and harder as the semester goes along. Although attendance isn't mandatory I would suggest coming because 1/3 of the test is questions from class. His extra credit is amazing! There is no way to fail if you do ALL the extra credit. Buy the book and read
He is an awesome teacher and you can definitely tell he enjoys what he's talking about. Excellent at answering questions and tests are pretty fair. Book isn't completely necessary but definitely helps. Class isn't mandatory but some test questions are over things not in the book but from the lecture. I would definitely suggest!!
Awesome teacher! He knows his stuff, answers questions clearly, follows the syllabus schedule, and is always open for class discussions. 4 exams, drops the lowest one. 10 research credits plus up to 10 more for extra points added to your FINAL AVERAGE. Do the online surveys on Sona and it's super easy to get the research credits. Take this class!
I love him!!! He is such a good professor, and I wish I could take him again! I would not take this class if you want a blow off class. The only way to do well in his class is to show up, and take notes. He is very good at explaining things, and will always find time to meet after class.
Dr. Boals has been my favorite professor I've ever taken. He made it easy to pay attention in lecture, and was very passionate. When I took the class there were 4 tests (4th being the final and potentially optional) and a few article reviews. Tests were about 60% over the lecture and 40% over the book.
Easy class if you take notes. funny teacher!
Best psychology class I've taken so far! Keeps class interesting, and he's really funny. Has 4 tests, drops the lowest one. Tests are based a lot on lectures so just make sure to pay attention. He also offers extra credit, which is easy. Definitely recommend his class!
BEST TEACHER EVER. he knows everything there is to know about psychology. I have learned so much and he makes it so interesting. He explains everything and is just a great teacher. The tests are pretty hard even though i study hard. You have to complete some papers and research credits which are kind of time consuming. But its all worth it. Take it
Dr. Boals is a good instructor but his class is not easy. You have to take notes even if he suggests not to because the information is on the Powerpoints - he adds information that is on the tests in class. He will work with you and he is available but if you think this is an easy A, it is not.
Great instructor, would recommend his classes to anybody. 5 tests and 4 in-class papers
Dr. Boals is a great professor! His lectures are always interesting and I always looked forward to attending class. For this course you need psychology research credits, which means you have to participate in studies done by students at unt. Tests are not difficult if you study. Overall it's a great course to take.
Great professor, lectures can go on for a while over a specific topic, but he is nice and gives extra credit.
There are much better psych professors. I usually dont go to class but read the book and go over powerpoints. He is ok at best. He basically reads right off the powerpoints and all he does in class is answer questions. he didnt really interest me and psychology is much more interesting than he presents it. would not recommend
Awesome professor, and awesome class. Textbook is pricey though, so be sure you either get the online book, or the abridged book (for that specific portion of the class).
I LOVED this class. It was very easy and very interesting. You don't strictly need to go, but if you do, you won't need the textbook - to be honest, I never once opened that thing, and I made an A. Four tests and three short, easy papers (like, one and half pages), plus he's an interesting and engaging lecturer - you definitely won't fall asleep.
Loved Dr. Boals class! He explains topics very clearly, his tests are not too hard. His lectures are very helpful. There's extra credit through SONA studies. Just pay attention and review his PowerPoints and it's an easy A.
Dr. Boals was a great professor. His grading criteria is very straight forward, and you will be using the book all the time. You must read the chapters to pass the test. There are study sessions all throughout the semester as well. He makes teaching fun, and I actually wanted to attend classes and hated when I wasn't able to go .
He is great , i would recommend him to anyone, this class is also a easy A if u put in some effort like for example study for 1 hour before your tests! Go to class it helps very much!!
I was annoyed to pay tuition to watch YouTube vids I could've found myself
Boals was boring. I either didn't want to go to class, and when I did, I would fall asleep. If you read the chapters like you should, then the lectures were pointless. He didn't teach anything the book didn't. He's nice, and tries hard, but this class was just not interesting. Doing the Sona credits can be fun, though!
I thought Dr. Boals was an amazing lecturer and seemed to really care about his students. His Psych 1630 class does have over 300 students in it though so don't expect one on one time. He was really helpful every time I would ask him questions after class though and was always willing to help. I got an A without reading the book even once.
He needs to quit teaching so he can focus more on poker, because to him thats what makes him more money. Seems like he's on autopilot while teaching class. Said his students at Duke are smarter than UNT students. Can ramble quite often and the book really isn't necessary, just take notes. I wish UNT didn't hire him, any other teacher can do better.
I've had Professor Boals for gen psych as well as intro to learning and memory. I honestly didn't purchase the textbook and made As and Bs on the exams but you must attend class. If you don't attend class and don't have the textbook his power points are a general overview. He likes to ask questions about specific studies so make sure you study!
This class was laughably easy. Most of the material is stuff you've probably heard of before like Pavlov's dogs or Freud. He doesn't give individualized extra credit or round up grades, but everyone has the opportunity to make an easy extra 10 points just from taking a couple online surveys.
By far my favorite professor at UNT. Dr. Boals really gets the students involved in lecture, and his presentation of the subject matter is absolutely sublime. I have really left his class appreciating psychology. Class isn't hard at all, as long as you come to class and take good notes. Also, don't procrastinate on the research credits!
Go to class and you' ll get an A or B. Tests are kind of hard and you have to study but it's easier when you go to class. No homework too!
Great teacher
Great teacher deserves that peppa.
Majority of tests are straight from the lecture. He gives extra-credit if you do 20 credits of SONA (Psychology Studies and Surveys). He doesn't curve, but his tests are easy enough to not have to curve. Also drops one test, which if you do good on all of your tests, you don't have to show up for finals. EZ. He's funny too.
Took the class because it's required in the university core, but actually ended up enjoying the class. His lectures are interesting and the tests aren't hard if you actually go to class.
He's great
Dr. Boals is pretty great. PSYC1630 is just an Intro class, so it is fairly easy. His lectures can become repetitive, but overall, if you show up, take decent notes, and briefly read over the chapters in the book, you will make an A. Would definitely take more classes taught by Dr. Boals!
Amazing professor! Good looking and made a seemingly difficult subject very easy to grasp. His exams were based mostly on the content found directly on his powerpoints. Not too many notes to take, several extra credit opportunities, lots of engaging discussion, and the exams were fairly easy and straightforward. Take this professor!!!
He is an amazing professor, would definitely take again! Tests are easy specially if you go to at least 1 SI session before the test. You will never be bored in his class. I recommend you do your sona credits the beginning of the semester, they're easy and fun. 5 chili peppers!!!
Being a transfer and older than the average student, I felt out of place initially. However, I LOVED Dr. Boals. His sense of humor made the material easier to absorb. Lectures are fun and participating. Do the Sona credits in the beginning. He's cute in a Jerry Lewis kinda way if that helps to us more seasoned crowd! You'll enjoy him!
Loved this class! Very good lectures, fully prepares you for the test. I read the book, but found that 90% of the material on the tests came from the lectures. Just go to class, pay attention and you should have no trouble passing. This was my favorite class this semester, inspired me to pick up psyc as a minor.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Loved his lectures, he made Intro Psych so fun and interesting. Very interactive and thorough. You know exactly what to expect for tests, which are taken primarily from the lecture but some things also come from the book. I actually chose to be a Psych major because of Dr. Boals. TAKE HIM! Easy A.
His lectures are very interesting and he does go off on tangents but they are educational tangents. He is strict about his syllabus. He does not allow test retakes. My grandpa passed away a couple of days before and he would not allow me to take the exam at a later time when I was not in shock and grieving.
It's a really interesting class and he's a really good teacher. Very funny and inspirational. A real chili pepper.
Boals does a great job of teaching, if you show up to class you will pass the tests
Professor Boals made lecture really interesting and was open to hearing what the students had to say. He's a very energetic professor and keeps you engaged for the entire class period. The tests are heavily based on lectures and it also helps to read the chapter beforehand to really know the terms! I would definitely recommend taking his class!
awesome professor, great lectures, interesting subject!
Dr. Boals is an amazing teacher and really passionate about his field. He's a nice guy who gives amazing lectures, class never really feels boring. He gives a lot of examples and his tests are easy if you put in a little effort to study. You can tell he wants his students to succeed.
He is a wonderful professor and actually gives his students opportunities for extra credit. The content was enjoyable and he really lightens up the room when he spoke. Im thankful that I got the chance to take his class. So if you're reading this and wondering what psychology professor you should take, choose him!! Study the powerpoints & quizlet!!
He's a great teacher if you are just starting out in PSYC, gives reasonable lectures and likes what he is talking about. Includes real life examples and videos which helps. Sometimes gets sidetracked and falls behind schedule but his exams are pretty easy if you read your textbook and attend lecture/read the power point slides.
This professor talks extremely fast. I understand he is passionate about memory & learning but I am not sure how he has learned so much about this topic and he forgot that people do not learn well with fast paced lectures. You must READ the book. His final is cumulative. Gives 10 e.c. points. He is very boring. I learned more about poker than L&M
He was a really good professor. He kept his lectures were interesting. tests were pretty much all from lecture so they were pretty easy. i didnt really have to ready the book.
Really great professor and generally a sweet guy. Follows a textbook written powerpoint with a couple personal notes and videos inserted here and there. You can get away with not attending class as long as you read the book, but you won't make an A due to few of the test questions being class specific.
If you have any interest in psychology, you will enjoy this class. Dr. Boals loves what he does, and it shows. He has super engaging lectures that make me drag myself out of bed to get to, even if they aren't mandatory! This class consists of only tests and a few reasonable critique papers. You won't be drowning in work by any means.
Dr. Boals rocks!
Dr. Boals was a great psyc teacher and was enthusiastic about his lessons. He would entertain us with videos from time to time that were related to the lessons. Would recommend. Just dont slack off and barely study because you can make an easy A if you actually do what you need to do.
I took 4690 with Boals. He is an amazing teacher who is really good at keeping your attention. You could make an easy B in this class by just going to the lectures and taking in-class notes. Grades consisted of 4 tests that are both multiple choice and short answer and 4 "thought papers" (these aren't bad if you pay attention in class).
Go to lecture, it's hilarious. He's great. Ask him about poker.
Dr. Boals is really one of a kind. He loves what he does and it is very clear. There are 4 exams and a few papers, so it's really not a difficult class. He is extremely helpful and you'll never be bored in class. He reminds me of someone who does TED Talks. Please take Dr. Boals if you get the chance.
He is a really good teacher and his lectures are interesting!! Make sure to study the notes and the textbook, but he usually tells you things ahead of time.
This class is NOT difficult! You will learn SOOO much in lecture, Dr. Boals makes lecture fun + does a great job in providing videos and pictures to help you further understand! ALSO there's VARIOUS tutoring opportunities!!! Dr. Boals and the TAs are here to help you succeed! Overall, AWESOME CLASS!
Honestly, prof Boals is one of my favorite profs because his lectures are actually interesting and he's really good at connecting with the students. He gives relatable examples and offers plenty of extra credit. There are a couple of critique papers but they aren't that bad and the tests aren't too bad if you study(most questions come from lecture)
Dr. Boals is one of my favorite people I've ever met. He is a stellar instructor and has a way of captivating everyone around him. The class is difficult, but the experience was worth it. I wish he addressed the second exam since the average was a 62, but I can look past it. Dr. Boals is the kind of professor I hope to be colleagues with one day.
Lots of extra credit. He gives great lectures and is very kind/relatable. Tests in the course are easy as long as you take some kind of notes on his lectures and look at the course material to some degree. Critique papers are hardest part but they are not very stressful. These can probably always be done last minute if you are an efficient writer.
Dr. Boals is a very kind and caring professor. He finds ways to relate to his students through his lectures, and he encourages his students to participate in class. He offers plenty of extra credit options. The tests are easy as long as you take notes and look at the course material. There will be critique papers, but they are not that difficult.
Dr. Boals is such an amazing teacher. He truly cares about his students and does what he can to help them. He is super funny and his lectures are not boring at all. He gives extra credit and there are a few critique papers to write but those are easy. This class was not really hard and I actually enjoyed it!
I loved him as a prof. I recommend. He makes the material understandable. The tests make sense, just pay attention. DO NOT FORGET TO DO THE FINAL SONA STUFF. I forgot to do it because it wasn't on the bottom of the syllabus with the other assignment due dates :(. Otherwise, I would have an A. But he's cool
I took Intro to Psych with Dr. Boals and it was amazing! Even though the class was on Zoom, he made sure to interact with his students. Not too much homework, just a few one-page papers with fair grading criteria. Classes were recorded so you don't need to attend them as they're happening.
I honestly never write on here or give feedback on my professors but had to for Dr. Boals he was an amazing professor i recommend this class for anyone its an EASY A if you do your work (which arent hard at all) and he offers extra credit if your do SONA! Hes a great teacher and you can tell he really enjoys what he does! Def would take again!!
He was one of the most organized professors I've ever had. He was kind, funny, understanding, and most importantly a great teacher! He really prepares you well for the course and wants to engage with all his students!
I took this class completely online. We had lectures 3x a wk but they were recorded so u could watch them back later. Textbook is required but I found it online. Tests arent too bad if u attend lecture & *actually* read the textbook. There are 3 essays we had to do but they were only 1-2 pgs (the TAs grade) There is opportunity for extra credit.
Dr. Boals is awesome! He gives amazing lectures (some test questions are from class, so show up or watch the recordings, take notes). Grades based on exams, group project, lab work, and article critiques. Read the book and you'll be good (it's faced paced and easy to read). Dr. Boals is kind and funny, he truly loves what he does and it shows.
Boals is more of an entertainer than a teacher. Which is fine, if you like that. Id rather know my tuition is buying me something. If you read the text & look up content on you tube, you really dont need to attend class.
He's funny and entertaining, but class is a waste of time. The multiple choice tests are so easy that I aced every one just by skimming the book.
Definitely a fun professor, and this is not as difficult of a class as I expected it to be. Show up to class and get your work done and you'll get an A. I wouldn't recommend this class if you're not a psychology major though! I don't feel like it would be as fun if you're only taking it for core credit.
He's really funny and I enjoyed his lectures, but beware, I don't think I would've passed without my lecture notes. Pretty reasonable about assignments and explains them pretty clearly! Also, he prepares you for the real world.
He based his lectures off of the PowerPoints he would post on canvas, so that helped a lot with my note taking. I really enjoyed his lectures as they were very informative and easy to listen to. He was funny, knowledgable, and cared about the class and it came through in how he taught.
Awesome teacher with fun lectures. I definitely learned a lot in this class. The only thing is that my test grades were not congruent with the amount of effort I spent preparing for them. Definitely study hard for them, and make sure you have every detail memorized.
Dr. Boals is an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and his lectures are always fun. I recommend taking him for an intro to psychology class. Attendance is not mandatory but most of the exams cover the lecture material so it's best to show up. He offers extra credit through SONA which are easily obtainable.
Dr. Boals is both a knowledgeable and passionate person. He demonstrates a clear willingness to both teach and learn from others by actively engaging and facilitating discussions w/ his class. Leaned lots of relevant knowledge. Strict on his policies so pay attention to due dates. Txtbk is covered in class so I highly recommend attending lecture.
Dr. Boals is a very nice guy who generally ends class a bit early. His lectures are very important because most of the content on the test comes from the lectures. As long as you attend class and read the text book, you should be in relatively good shape. He offers 5 extra credit points to your average through research participation.
This is the best professor I have ever had in my life. I went to almost every class, even though it was 9:30 in the morning, because his class was so interesting. He explains things really well. If you go to class and take notes, you barely need to read the textbook. I would definitely retake his class.
There's not much to say about Boals. I believe he is the kind of professor you either love or hate... The workload isn't terrible, but I would find another professor for 3650.
AMAZING teacher and person 100% take him if you are taking this course worth every bit. Just attend and participate to learn a lot and get a great grade
It was an alright class because he tries to make the material interesting, but I only took this class because it was required. His tests are relatively easy and he offers a lot of SONA extra credit.
Professor Boals was a dream professor. He was caring, understanding, and made sure to keep students engaged during lectures. Quizzes are open notes. Drops an exam grade. I would love to take Professor Boals again if I had the chance to.
He just reads off the powerpoints, so there's no need coming to class. Exams aren't too hard. He can get off track sometimes in his lectures which is kinda annoying since we end up rushing at the end, but he's super funny and his classes are engaging.
First day, professor exclaims he is arrogant and narcissistic. That is the theme for the class. He states he is not a good person and can do whatever he wants. So the fact you can not see what you got right or wrong on a test boils down to if he likes you or not. Feed his ego and you will do well. Ask questions, and he will be rude.
He is a pretty chill professor; coming to class does benefit you since sometimes he'll talk about exams and give more thorough information and examples. He did his best to make it engaging and covered the topics pretty well. It was difficult at times and it can be a bit intimidating to ask a question in the class.
Boals was great! I do agree with reviews stating he's egotistical (lol) but lectures were interesting and work was pretty easy, with one quiz a week. You can get by without the textbook.
This class is not as hard as I thought it would be. He's amazing in lecture, it is beneficial to be in class. I did not use the textbook at all. Tests are straightforward if you went to class. He's very helpful and informational. Take his class!
Professor Boals has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class is rewarding. The lectures are worth attending, and using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can really help with exam prep. Overall, a challenging yet engaging course.
The expectation is clearly communicated and reasonable. His lectures were enjoyable and always helpful. Do Not buy the textbook, you really just need to focus on his lectures, the powerpoints, and doing your work on time. Attendance was not graded, but my grade did take a hit after missing a few lectures, so I'd recommend attending.
Passionate about what he do. Straight by the book. Does not give exceptions unless approved by the Deans of Students. Assignments are reasonable. Interesting lectures, comes up with lecture saying, which is an easy correct answer on your test if you attend. Exams are monitored and watched closely on Zoom, if you choose to test from home. Hard tests
Dr. Boals is an amazing lecturer while still being funny and lighthearted. Attendance isn't mandatory but you won't do good in this class if you don't go to his lectures. He gives plenty of extra credit and doesn't have many grades besides 4 tests and a short quiz weekly. I throughly enjoyed this class and highly recommend Boals.
Dr. Boals is an amazing professor! While attendance isn't mandatory, you should attend class because of his lectures. He offers extra credit for completing surveys for UNT which will really boost your grade. Overall, I really enjoyed his class.
Very good professor that makes his lectures engaging. The course is lecture heavy but he makes it easy to follow. Lots to remember but he offers extra credit. There was no group project in the lecture but in the lab I did. Anyone complaining about him going on tangents is rude. He allowed me to join his course late and was very helpful.
Loved this professor. He is caring and keeps class engaging. A little less lenient when it comes to exams and assignments but his TA's do all the grading. I really do recommend him! Also... be ready for him to talk about poker!!
