Well i would say that the exams are really hard even if you memorize all her notes, it's still hard to understand during exam what is she exactly asking. Besides, she must give atleast some review questions before each exam or should ask students to keep up thier work in journals...that's the only best way to do well.

Difficulty aside, Dr.Alaie is rude, condescending and egotistical. She seems to have no interest in the success of her students (other than a chosen few postgrads). She MUST be reminded she is teaching a 100 level class. Worse yet, the administrative management is nonexistent at best and malicious at its worst - I'm looking at you Sam Gelman.

She's one of the best professors I've ever had. Her exams are very challenging, but the key is to use her class notes as outlines and learn as much as possible on the covered material. Students really need to push themselves in this class, but she is very helpful in answering questions in office hours.

Dr. Alaie is an extremely challenging professor. I normally sail through science classes, yet found myself working my butt off for a B+. That being said, I think she is one of the best professors I have ever had. I've learned a lot from this class that will help me beyond the scope of biological sciences. This class is not for the lazy.

With this course, I went from hating biology to not being able to get enough of it! She is passionate about the subject & articulate, & I actually looked forward to lecture. A caveat, however: You must remain diligent in your studies (this cannot be stressed enough!). Study her notes AND the text; take advantage of recitation/office hours/Socrates.

Two things, if you're here for a GER requirement. Get out. She will make sure that Biology becomes your entire world. And for just GER, it's just not worth it. Second thing? I had fun. Desperately trying to memorize her lecture notes-although painful- was actually one of the more fulfilling challenges I have completed with my biochem major. ^__^

Challenging class, but reasonable if you're willing to work. I paid alot of money for private tutoring and spent about 10 to 15 hours a week studying for this class and came out with a B+(which I'm proud of)considering the nature of her tests. She's definitely increased my interest in biology, I learned a great deal in this course.

I had her last year, and got an A+ in 100 and 102. The secret: 1) go to recitations. you'll learn a ton, and they are the people grading your essays. 2) write your essays with ridiculous detail. 3) study enough to know the ridiculous detail. Overall: She's one of the best at Hunter, if not THE best. Enjoy :)

My advice is that if you are not prepared to work HARD in college then maybe you should consider another career path. This class is challenging but getting a good grade is possible if you put in at least 12+ hrs of study outside class time/ week. Use the text book's online resources, they are great! Get help often and early if you are struggling

This professor likes to formulate her exam questions somewhat similar to "Have you stop drinking brandy in the morning?" I wish there is a way to pass this class by just writing essays! She's a great professor, but I believe that the class size is what makes this class difficult. The immunity chapter was interesting, only thing is that she talks way too fast and the mic is poor quality...I still prefer Garcia though-her tests are clear and her lectures are also clear and interactive.

I think one of the biggest problems students face is the lecture size. The mic she was using was scratchy and she talks way too fast. Don't expect to do well on exams just by reading the textbook. Taking her class was a struggle. Read the textbook before class, it will help you understand what she teaches in class. Her lectures are amazing and she's very knowledgeable, but exams can be really hard. Her lecture is more important than the textbook. I recommend that you record her and listen to it and link the concepts and NOT just memorize.

Dr. Alaie is funny and sweet in her lectures, but in real life it's not the case. She canceled office hours for the semester and is unresponsive. The course is challenging but doable; in my opinion, it was overhyped. Skim the textbook before lectures for a base understanding, but nothing in the book is tested. I saw that review saying that if you didn't do good in this class, then you aren't cut for med school. As someone who got an A+ in this class, I think it's disgusting to shame one's capability in succeeding in medicine based on one class. No doubt, this class is hard, but with the right guidance, it is achievable. You should be ashamed.

This class is hard but Dr Alaie explains everything you need to know in lecture and she teaches so passionately. Recitation helps you with test taking skills. I promise you everyone who is complaining are just weak. You're either good at understanding complexity and nuance or you aren't. Don't blame the prof, this class is incredible.

As you know, BIOL 100 at Hunter is notoriously difficult, and it was no different with BIOL 102. However, I really enjoyed her lectures and honestly her class really helped refine my studying skills. To do well in the class, just take very descriptive notes and review them. Make Quizlets, do study groups, go to tutoring/office hours, etc

Biol100 and 102 were the most difficult courses I have taken at Hunter College, bar none. Watch all lecture videos, and take notes of what seems to be key information, and all will be fine. No need for textbook, at least for myself. Extremely tricky multiple choice questions on exams, so if that isn't your strength, take Sheppard for intro bio.

This class was hard, only because it was so much content to learn and digest with not enough time. She words her tests in a manner that missing one word can give you the wrong answer, and it sucks that she doesn't curve her tests.

WORSTTT CLASS EVER. first of all recitation ta looked like she hated her job and she made bio so souless. THE TESTS are the absolute worst. if u do happen to take her just pick E in every test.,class is made to make as much students fail as possible, lots of trick questions, if u can try to take this class elsewhere

If you have a life outside of school and you also don't have photographic memory then I would recommend you to not take this class. The recitation TA said the only way to pass is to create and write transcript for the professor's lecture videos and memorize every single sentence/phrase from every single video. just awful

Wish they let us see tests on our own time(only showed in office hrs). Curve is good. Tutoring helps a lot. Lecture vids are dense but reflect tests. MC is tricky. Lab is good with the right TA. Wish there were more resources/practice questions.

Definitely not an easy class. Make sure to keep up with the lecture videos. Alaie's lectures are long, but very informative. I did not need the textbook. The key is to take very descriptive notes. Earn as many points as possible in recitation and lab to buffer your grade. Attend skirball! The tutors are extremely helpful. Tough but doable class.

I think Dr. Alaie's videos are good, and she explains the concepts well. The class is made difficult by the tricky/unfair MC, lack of practice questions, and refusal to give students back tests to review. The course is designed to be exclusionary rather than inspiring. The course structure and purpose needs a revamp. I did learn a lot, though.

Whatever you do don't take her at all, you're better off taking Sheppard. She makes her exams so hard that the only way ur getting an A is if you study like 5+ hours a day each week JUST for her class. Barely even gives out practice material to prep for exam.

While her exams were actual Hell, her lectures are amazing and insightful. They're informative and help with retention of information. Her questions on exams are hard but really understanding her lectures and recitations help with answering them.

I had both Alaie and Sheppard. I think the points system for Sheppard is wayyyy better! While Alaies lectures are great her exam is mission impossible to get points. Same with rec! You really have to study I can't even say how because I myself struggled lol.
