I had her my first semster at CSU. She missed over 1/3 of our class meetings. I got nothing out of her class and had a rough time in ENG 102.
The worst class I have ever taken.
Like the other student said, it is the worst class I have ever taken! Take notice CSU!
She missed around 20% of class meetings and was very easily sidetracked. Most class discussions reverted to multiculturalism more than English.
Absolutely THE WORST professor I have ever had. I took a summer course with her and she showed up less than 50% of the time. When she did show up she was a scatter brain. She is a disgrace and CSU should be embarrassed to have her in the English department.
sure she is crazy, but so crazy we didnt have to do anything. By the time you are in English 495 you want a break- I didn't learn anything, but I also had to write a 1 paragraph response while other classes had to write a 30 page paper instead.
She was a bit flighty. I think if she established more of what is due and when, she would get better reviews, I know she never followed through on things and got very angry if you didn't know what it was like to be African American. But I liked her a lot a
Missed over 2/3 of our classes. No direction. Changed the syllabus 4x. She has things we could learn but too bad she is an awful awful professor. She has left me so frustrated... I am open to experimental teaching but she is not fulfilling this... she is just not teaching, not taking our class and her responsibility seriously. We pay good money!
i think she has very good intentions and a nice personality. she is also very creative!
May not be the most organized, but it was worth it.
She is flighty and creative! Perfect example of an absent-minded professor. Very "loosey-goosey" so almost perfect for the last seminar course when you are pretty much tuned out. As long as you give in your final paper, she is very relaxed about mid-term papers and grades, which is to say, she won't care. Her class is a breeze!
She taught some myth-making course. I can't even recall the content; all I recall is she truly is one of the worst professors EVER. Look. I am not a disser, and I've had close to 100 professors, but this woman is bad news. Completely disorganized, scatter-brained "lectures", and yes- canceled classes galore- this class was a total time-waster. :(
horrible
She's a little scatter-brained, and it takes some time to get used to her method, but if you can get past her lack of organization she's a great teacher and knows a lot.
She makes anything bothersome. It's not that the class is hard, it's just a drag. At the end of it all I should have an A right now, but she hasn't even submitted my grade yet. I don't even know if she has it because she won't respond to me.
PROFESSOR GOSSELIN IS ONE OF THE BEST PROFS AT CSU. IF YOU CAN "FORGET EVERYTHING YOU THINK YOU KNOW", OPEN YOUR MIND, AND HOLD ON FOR THE RIDE, YOU WILL FIND, IN THE END THAT YOU LEARNED SO MUCH, NOT ONLY RELATING TO THE CONTENT BUT ALSO ABOUT YOURSELF.
Very unapproachable professor
She is alittle all over the place, and is very unorganized. She never stay on her own syllabus. The class is called womanism Feminism and I have not learned anything about neither. All the books we read were basiclly about women who were mulatto and could pass as white woman and chose to be black women.
She is very scatter-brained. She starts off talking about one subject, but it always leads to something WAY different. It is very hard to get used to her style of teaching. She is unapproachable and I would rather write an email than talk to her in person. She never follows her syllabus and there is never a set due date for her papers.
Professor Gosselin is a very intelligent, enthusiastic, and down-to-earth individual and teacher. Sure, due dates were moved from time to time and perhaps she said what was on her mind, rather than play it safe; but I loved her and would definitely take her class again. If you can't handle reality, then don't take her. Gosselin rocks!
Prof Gosselin is very intelligent. However, she is very unorganized and cancels class on a regular basis. The class is very easy though! You basically decide your own grade at the end and while it may not seem like it during the actual course, you leave with much more knowledge on the subject than before the class.
This woman has absolutely no business teaching. Freshmen will enjoy her but seniors who just want to graduate will hate her lack of a syllabus and overall ineptness. She is very pationate about black studies, unfortunately that does not translate into teaching ability, of which she as none. All English majors will have to take 207, find someoneelse
Just Fab! Great interaction with the students and a very unique mind. Professor Gosselin knows her stuff, so be prepared to back up your own words based on knowledge and proof..not just opinion. Overall, great teacher. Be open-minded and give her a chance before you judge her.
Her class was super easy! she canceled a lot w/o warning, which was annoying, but it also ment that I gained a lot of free time. She doesn't care if you turn in papers on time, just as long as she has them all by the end of the semester. She's kinda flighty but if you need an easy A- take her.
she gave me an Incomplete, not because I needed to complete any work, but because she couldn't turn in her grades on time. The entire 6 weeks she would not return emails, was unclear in her instructions and was all around unhelpful. Do not take this professor.
Flighty but extremely intelligent. I consider her brilliant. It may seem like an easy A, but you're working your butt off to learn, you just don't know how much you're learning ;) Great professor
Dr. Gosselin is very smart but extremely disorganized. rarely does she show up on time, and never has a set lesson plan. i never received any sort of grade in the class until the end of the semester. we wrote 3 papers in the class and a final. I will say that i did learn a lot even through her unconventional style of teaching.
Can be a little disorganized, but keeps you afloat on any changes, even asks opinion abt the lesson plan. However Dr. Gosselin is super intelligent. She loves African American Lit and is very knowledgeable on the topic. Though I don't need another one of her classes, I wouldn't mind taking her class again. And she's very funny
If you sweat profusely when a syllabus isn't followed exactly or go into a tirade if class starts 5 minutes late,DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSE W/Dr. G!!! However, if you want a class where you are creatively engaged, actively involved, and leave being 125% ready to write an outstanding senior thesis & paper-Dr. G is your go-to girl! Best Class Ever!!!!
This lady is crazy! Her class has been the most unorganized one I have ever been in. I was confused at least 100% of the time and sometimes more! She comes in late and usually never follows lesson plans. However, everyone still ends up learning and taking something from her class. Just remember, "Learning is messy and life isn't fair." Good luck.
She is insane. She requires too many readings if you decide to take other classes or work. She flighty with assignments and has zero preparation for class. She is although an easy grader and gives students many opportunities for extra credit.
She is way too confusing for me. Ms. G is friendly, but just a bit crazy. LOL No offense prof!
Ms. G isn't all that bad. She can be unprepared and a bit all over the place, but she is a very easy grader. Most students may be confused by her unconventional style of teaching, but like me, you'll get used to it. You don't have to study much and again she is a fair grader. Learning is messy and life isn't fair. You'll be fine. Good luck! (>^o^<)
As long as you turn your work in you will get an A. She may be confusing at times but she is very nice and will work with you.
If you are taking Prof.G. for any multicultural class be aware that you have an open mind and be open to being wrong. She is a tough teacher-and you must follow her written syllabus b/c she's forgetful. She's a gentle grader that focuses more on comp. She does take care of a family and has many classes so she can be late/absent sometimes.
Teacher is incredibly forgetful, and gullible. The books are important because they are all the class is about! Way to much readings, don't take this class if you don't like reading boring things and a lot of it. Nice teacher but not very helpful or clear about things. Usually late to class but also lets class go early and is pretty laid back.
Professor Gosselin is a genius, however, she is forgetful and unorganized. She asks very broad questions and expects a certain answer. The one time that none of us knew how to answer, because there were so many different ways to answer, she called the class "stupid". Very unprofessional, rude and disrespectful. Would not recommend.
I find Dr. Gosselin to be an effective instructor in that she is able to elicit out of a student what is already waiting to be shaped. If a student has not had a similar experience, perhaps that student presented nothing to work with, nor possessed the ability to transmit energy to be utilized.
I hated her class so much I dropped it. I Definitely do NOT recommend it. She's confusing, and very inappropriate towards her students. Avoid it if you can.
She is very nice on a personal basis and will love you if you share the same views as her. However, she is not very open to different opinions. If you do not agree with her, you are WRONG. She gives VERY unclear assignments and is often times rude and disrespectful towards students, so only open your mouth if you dare. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
Professor Gosselin is very intelligent and interesting to listen to, you can learn a lot from her, but she is very airheaded. She will assign something and forget about it, and she does not explain assignments clearly. The syllabus won't help. However, if you ask for help, she will give it, she is very approachable and flexible. Overall ok teacher.
This was the worst teacher I had ever had in my college career. She was highly disorganized and the class was just plain chaotic. She only handed out the syllabus and no additional paperwork to help on assignments. Constantly changing the work load and gave the most vaguest explanations. A kind woman, but a god awful teacher. Angry I wasted my time
You will read. A lot. And it's not fun. She'll rant and rave the entire class and confuse everyone. You'll have a few papers, but she refuses to tell you what on. Just write something appropriately. It's stressful but she's very lenient on grading. I wouldn't recommend this prof to anyone.
Very unclear with assignments, very disrespectful when anyone in the class would ask questions about the homework, the final, or even if we asked for a guideline for the group project that had nothing to do with the class. Please, save yourself a headache and do not take her.
While some of these other rating have some merit, they are over dramatic. This class was easy if you can read and write. The syllabus clearly states every reading assignment due for the entire year, and if you keep up with the reading then the papers are easy. Her class is all over the place, but its an easy English class and you will learn a lot.
If you're needing a class to fill in one of your electives take this class. Yes the teacher is a bit all over the place and crazy but don't let that keep you from taking this class. She is laid back so it makes the class a little easier. She is passionate about what she teaches so class might take a little longer. Class is fun and interesting!
You need to be VERY into the subject matter of the class in order to enjoy it. She is very knowledgeable on the topics she teaches but can be difficult to understand if you just took the class for an easy A. Participating helps TREMENDOUSLY but you gotta know what you are talking about. Her classes are highly opinion oriented on social issues.
Do not take any courses offered by this professor. I took an online course with her and she did not respond to emails, her syllabus did not match her reading assignments, and she would get offended if a student asked an honest question. Worst class I have taken, and Professor Gosselin is a terrible teacher. Her course was very unstructured.
The class is very unorganized and youre going to need to lean on your classmates for clarification. I explained how difficult a book we were reading in class is and she responded with this is book not for dummies. I felt very discouraged
Professor Gosselin is a wonderful professor. I took this course for a gen ed, and as a minor elective. It takes some time to adjust to her style of teaching, but once you do, she is awesome! She is a little bit of an airhead, but she is very intelligent and caring towards her students. I would absolutely recommend taking a course with her.
She is very scatterbrained, and constantly changes the syllabus. She has a hard time understanding things which frustrates her. You have like 8 books you need for this class, and you must read them all. There is a midterm paper, final project, and blackboard discussion for grades. Keep up on the work.
Most of the texts can be found online or in the library. I stopped reading after midterms and still received an A in the class. Be nice to her, participate in class, and she'll like you. I didn't learn anything, but it's required for the ENG major so good luck. She teaches most of the Intro to Drama classes. Absolutely terrible, but easy class.
Nothing to say.
Most unorganized, horrible class ever taken. Always late and nothing is clear. The syllabus is not followed and you have to agree with her political opinions or you will not pass.
Prof. Gosselin is one of the nicest professors. A little unorganized, but you figure it out. Be prepared to learn a lot about African American history and culture. She is an easy grader and African American literature is one of the easiest classes you can take at CSU.
My absolute favorite class! Loved everything about Ms. Gosselin! yes she doesn't always follow the syllabus, however if you show up to the classes you or your parents are paying for then you have no real reason to complain about this class. She is very caring and understanding if you communicate with her. I would take her, 10xs and then some!
She's nice, but very unorganized. Whatever you do, do not argue with her opinions. We had a class argument about not being able to use ANY adjectives that could have negative connotations. This bleeds into class material. Just show up and be nice to her. Expect deadlines to change on the fly and new assignments to pop out of the blue
The class is also under ENG 547, but the class is boring. She requires you to participate and will pull you to the side if she notices that you don't. Never replies to emails, yet wants you to email her if you're going to miss class. A lot of class discussions that tend to be all over the place. Try to avoid taking this class with her.
I absolutely loved this class. Previous reviews about her being a bit unorganized are very true, but it always works in your favor. Our assignments were graded very easily and she actually didn't make us do half of the ones on the syllabus. With like 4 extra credit assignments of 10 points (The class was work like 150), there is no way not to pass
Probably the worst class I've ever taken. There's like 9 books to read, her lectures are all over the place (totally online bc COVID), grades everyone different, very disorganized, and all over the place. Very annoyed that we confer with classmates about the class instead of her (even though she confuses all of us). The class is awful
Professor Gosselin is incredibly passionate about the subject she teaches, but when it comes to actually teaching the criteria, it gets a bit messy and disorganized. Everyday walking into class I didnt know what to expect. Assignments changed on the spot. She changed the syllabus multiple times. Interesting content but disorganization made it hard
The other reviews are right, she is very very unorganized but honestly it works out well for you in the end. Lots of reading but it is not hard at all. Not many grades, but grades pretty easy. I actually thought she was very open to differing opinions so don't be afraid to give your input on the readings. She really likes to hear from students.
She is never clear about what she expects and what the homework is. Her class is extremely open-ended, meaning if you do the work or not, it doesn't matter but then your grade relies on the papers. She also has no idea how to use BB and technology, it's very frustrating.
She is the most unorganized professor, or human I have ever had to deal with. She does not prepare you for the papers and other assignments she expects you to complete. On top of it she is literally so all over place I don't think I was ever confident in where we were in the class. Try and avoid taking any classes with her, will make life smoother
This is the worst professor I have ever had to deal with in my entire life. Her instructions are incomprehensible, her class is completely chaotic, her "assignments" are ridiculously difficult and vague, and she gets mad at YOU for being confused. RUN.
Other students have rated poorly because her teaching style is not that of one they've experienced or understand. Professor Gosselin is legit a genius, and I stand by that. If you want to be enlightened, then take the class and listen. Doing the discussions and interaction is critical.
So unorganized and was unable to answer questions when asked and just stated, "it's student-led learning". Knew about a midterm paper a week before it was due, not on the syllabus. Learned about the final two weeks before it was due, jot on the syllabus. Got in a student's face, yelled at them, and then cried. Unorganized and unprofessional.
Things were going well for the first half of the semester, but the second half of the semester turned into experimental teaching and experimental concepts (not on the syllabus) and now the class in incomprehensible. Save yourself the headache. Pick a different professor.
If you need any structure at all then this is not the professor for you. We received 4 different syllabi through the semester and seldom talked about the topic of the course in the slightest. While she can be an easy grader, it is only if she likes you, otherwise you can expect a C or B at best.
I haven't Completed her course as of writing this, but god does she suck at her job. No one in my class really understood what she was saying. She kept trying to get us to view the text in a different POV which is fine, but she would then yell at us for trying to understand what she was saying without providing a good explanation. RUN.
Worst professor ever! During discussions she rants on and on, and you cannot follow her. Wouldn't give us clear expectations for a paper when we asked. You buy 7 books and only read a few chapters out of them. Changed the syllabus 4 times and CRIED in class when we expressed our confusion. Report her. Drop her class.
RUN. Required 11 textbooks at the beginning and have only read 3. Unclear instructions 24/7. Rambles all of the time. Changes paper requirements up until 3 days before it is due and then proceeds to fail students for "not understanding the assignment". 4 weeks left and only 25 points in blackboard. Run. Get any other professor if you can
She is not clear with her mind on the subject. She changes her syllabus at her convenience. She has unclear instructions 24/7/365. Changed the syllabus every other week. The first half of the semester went okay, but the second half of the semester became experimental teaching and experimental notions (not in the syllabus).
Two weeks away from finals, a class member asked for a page count for the final paper, and the professor threatened to add more pages to the final paper if anyone asked for a page count again. The professor is not professional at all. The only reason I did not give her a zero was because she let us turn assignments in late for full points at times.
I tried sooo hard to like this professor, but her class is very disorganized, confusing and frustrating.
She is honestly one of the worst professors I've ever had the displeasure of working with. She gets mad if you correct her information, whether it be dates or whatever else. She gets mad when you don't participate or do the readings or if you check them during group work. When you make her upset she gets passive-aggressive. 0/10 not recommend.
Zero explanation on class expectations. Lectures that go absolutely nowhere and have no link to the class. Grades are mostly based on how much she likes you. I would switch universities before taking a class with this professor again.
Only went to class for one day and knew I needed out. She is all over the place with her words and does not seem knowledgeable at all. Seems very strict and also didn't know much about the course she was teaching. Again, didn't have her for long but I definitely would not recommend her.
Don't take her class. Don't take it for "a fun, easy class", and try not take it for a needed credit...just don't take her.
She never knew what she was teaching and the class was impossible to follow if i ever had to take the class again I'd want a different professor.
This is not the average teacher, she struggles to make assignments clear and understand the students' questions about what s happening in class. She would often show up and start teaching about things that weren t specified in the syllabus. If you enjoy the thrill of not knowing what's going on in class then I recommend this teacher, otherwise don't
I would never take this class again or any other class taught by the professor. She was unprepared, not tech savvy, impossible to get ahold of, doesn't prepare you for exams along with never submit final exam. Syllabus was changed multiple times.
No hard feelings toward the professor, but the level of disorganization just brought everything down. She seems knowledgeable, but it's at the cost of unrealistic reading goals and a class that barely follows the syllabus -- not to mention that it's almost too contingent on student participation at times. She really just needs a teaching assistant.
The fact she has 38 awful reviews should say enough
Not suitable to teach. Unorganized. Gets visibly upset often. Her lectures will put you to sleep. Uses very inappropriate language. Does not give clear direction and gets angry when asked for clarification. Often humiliates students in front of class. Students walk out of her class frequently due to offensive remarks she makes.
I don't think she wants you to learn so much as she likes hearing her own voice. She speaks very slowly because she makes up her class as she goes. Talks in circles. Exams have nothing to do with the lecture. Do not ask for her help or clarification because she will get angry.
