Pretty tough, sometimes seems as if she thinks hers is your only class; very picky grader; personally can be rude and condenscending
No Comments
IN HER MIND SHE IS PERFECT, HAS VERY HIGH EXPECTATIONS OF HER STUDENTS, AND CAN BE RUDE SOMETIMES
Extremely hard prof, but is extremely intelligent. Explains things well, but she thinks that chemistry is life and expects sooooo much out of her students.
She is VERY picky! Much to hard for a 100 level course...she expects waaay to much out of you...huge homework assignments every week, and hard exams...
Prof. is very hard. She flies through the notes and gives you no chance to catch up or to think through anything during lecture. She gives 10 point problem sets that easily require at least 5 hours of work per week. Hard course and she does not help.
the information is taught well but the class is extremely hard...requires a ton of time in order to do well. over half of our class failed the first test which was some review from 103
She gives out a lot of homework that takes hours to do but you have to do it to get anything out of the lectures that she flew through. Way too much work for a 100 level course!
You people are all crazy. Dr. Loh is probably the best teacher in the department. She explains things very deeply, and is easy to understand. Most students dont like chemistry, which is why they dont like her.
She's an intelligent teacher who expects a lot from her students and teaches the material very fast. But, she's also willing to help students to understand concepts. I do have to agree that she is a hard teacher whose tests are hard too.
Excellent professor who explains everything well. Goes through lectures fast, but is more than clear the entire time. She forces you to pay attention the entire time, which is rare among professors. Difficult class, but possible to get an A or A/B
hey, 12/9, it's college chemistry, what did you expect? change majors if you can't handle it
Don't listen to these people. I think the average right now is a D. She is a very hard grader and you have to study like it is your only class. I strongly suggest another teacher. I'm getting an B in the class, so i'm notsaying this because i'm failing.
I love Loh. She is by far the best chemistry teacher for 104. She is tough but explain everything really well and is very helpful outside of class!

I think she is a very difficult teacher and everytime I've ever tried to get help she has been very rude and not helpful.
horrible teacher
It is a tough class, but it is college. You have to understand the problem sets and study hard for the tests. But overall she is not a bad teacher.
Dr. Loh puts her entire self into the 104. It's tough but I have learned a lot. She also has a cool grade calculator that u can use to see ur grade and calculate a what if.
Hard class but you learn a lot! Understands if you get stressed out, and will help you out if you have questions. Work hard and get sleep before her exams though!!!
She is a good chem teacher. I have had much worse. She cares about you and explains things well. It is a very touch class but you have to expect that. It's not her fault that chemistry sucks.
Loh is a tough professor-- you will need to study for this class. However it is possible to get a good grade even an A. Pay attention in class and really work on your problems sets-try to see the 'big picture' that she talks about and it will help
I am a Chem major & she almost destroyed my love for Chem. Played favorites and seemed to be "too busy" to answer questions outside of class. Somehow I still managed an A, but it wasn't thanks to her help. However, she does really know Chem.
explains things well an very willing to help
the class is hard and she goes through the material fast. she's always willing to help and she is a nice lady... could use some more sweaters tho, if you take you'll see what i mean.
Ugh. That's all I have to say. Her problem sets usually help you learn the basics because she doesnt always teach you everything you need to know for the tests, but its a lot of work so be sure youre taking other classes that arent time consuming...ugh... avoid her. take mcgaff!!
Do not listen to these people unless u are in love with chem. Take McGaff!!!
RAGING **** FROM HELL

I dunno, if you can, try to avoid this woman. talks a mile a minute and doesnt give a "ship" about any of her students. if you arent on the good side, then get ready for a long ride on the C train!
I think she is a very good teacher. She definitely knows her chem. She explains things very well. Although she does talk super fast and can be very hard to keep up with. I also went in alot to get help, and she was always willing to help. Tests seemed to be time consuming and hard..but that's chem!
I was getting a straight "B" in her class until a few weeks before finals. Then, I stopped going, failed her class, and I have never been happier! An entire semester with Mcgaff is more reasonable than two weeks with this creature!
If you took Dr Roskos for chm103 and her work would become really easy. She knows all the stuff that she needs to talk. Awesome professor, make me awake during the lecture. If you want to take higher chm class. Take her. She talks a little fast, but i still understand and do well in class.
She plays favorites. If you get good grades she likes you,if you struggle a little watch out!She isn't the most approachable teacher and is quite unaccommodating! If you can avoid her class do it!This class isn't worth the effort. Her prob. sets are ridiculous and she only grades a fraction of them!
Difficult class. Only when I went in for help a while did I realize how much she puts into us. Not that I agree with her 100%. Or even 75%. But she is pushing 100% for us, which is more than most and more than what might be out there in the "real" world.
She will make sure you get your money's worth. Pay attention and sit up front if you have bad eyesight.
P-chem lab is the easiest class on campus. You NEVER have any homework, just show up to class and you'll have an A, no problem. Lab write-ups are no big deal and they don't have to be detailed, just briefly explain what you add to the flask. Don't miss out, you have to take this class!
Some people fear this class, but there is no need to run and hide! You will not find a more enjoyable way to spend 8 hours a week. Don't let the amount of time scare you because you get all your work done in class. How many CHM classes can you say that about? Lab reports are a snap!
She REALLY does everything she can to help her students do well in the class. She's an animated and enthusiastic educator that easily keeps your attention throughout lecture. If you put the time in, you will do well. I definately enjoyed the challenge!
The best professor in the department, seriously
Her problem sets are a pain but over all she is a good teacher but she does go rather fast
This is the most helpful prof EVER!!! Especially helpful to motivated students and those who go to her office to ask for extra help. I LOVE HER!!! She wrote me one of the best letters of recommendations for grad school and I miss her now that I'm gone!
Dr. Loh is by far my most interesting prof. She seems excited by the material and like she knows what she's doing. She is very helpful, but she is NOT easy. She expects a lot from her students. Work, and the class will go well for you. Take Dr. Loh.
Try to take the pchem lectures before you take the lab if possible. You'll get through it either way though.
the class is not easy (at least for me) but dr. Loh is always ready to help, knows everything and she wants you to do well, is helpful in office hours and that makes her a great teacher. keep up on the problem assignments or u may suffer.
She's not easy but I learned A LOT from her. Problem sets are tough, but you get at least a week to work on them and the test comes pretty much straight off of them. If you can't make her office hours she is hard to get a hold of. Just had a baby though...very busy! Not a bad prof, I would take her again
She is a very good teacher even at 7:45am. She always has in class problems that really help to make sure you understand the info. She has problem sets like every week that are pretty hard but are a lot like the test.
Dr. Loh expects a lot from her students but she gives 110%. If you do poorly in her class it's becuase you didn't do your end of the work, she presents you with EVERYTHING you need to know, and then you have to work your tail off. Overall GREAT teacher with amazing energy and enthusiasm for the subject and her students.
She's a very methodical and systematic teacher. Her tests are mirrors of her problem sets, which are themselves difficult but help you learn the material. If you're not willing to put in the work, don't take the class. But she's an amazing professor and very helpful whenever you're having difficulties. Very passionate about her subject...
I am finding Dr. Loh to be one of the best teachers I've ever had. She prepares you very well for the exams. She provides a ton of extra resources for studying and is always willing to answer questions in and out of class.
Dr. Loh is the best. She is really helpful and amke the class easy and fun. I really enjoy working with her.
The class is a lot of work so if your a slacker dont expect much. You get weekly problem sets and inclass problems which are very useful. Her tests are difficult and she goes fast through lecture. expect a challenge and a teacher who isnt necessarily very understanding of all her students needs.
this class is a very tough class, but loh is a great teacher! she explains everything very well. didnt open the textbook once, but did have to put in ALOT of time for the problem sets. shes a hard grader but teaches very well!
Chem is not easy or fun no matter who you take but Dr. Loh really knows her stuff. She seems hard to approah but don't be scared, she is really helpful. Expect to put alot of time into her class and make sure you remember Chem 103. I would definetly recommend her if you have to take Chem!
I found this professor very easy to understand. The way she teaches, she asks you to get one step ahead of her and PREDICT whats going to happen next, I had little trouble remembering things in this class because of it. The weekly assignments and in class problems are also a huge help. Bottom line: if you take chem104, TAKE DR. LOH'S CLASS.
Weekly problem sets were set up much like the tests which was helpful. Unfortunately, she must think her students can work at the speed of light. Not enough time for tests... NOT AT ALL. Also, she is a VERY arrogant person which gets in the way of her ability to interact with her students and she comes off as rude and just plain mean! Avoid her!!
Dr. Loh expects Chemistry 104 students to work like 300 level Chemistry students. She isn't incrediably helpful when you go and talk to her either. The tests are the most challenging that you will take. Overall if you have to take CHM 104, I would take someone other than Dr. Loh unless you want to be challenged to the extreme. DEMANDING CLASS!!!
Chem 104 with Dr. Loh was a difficult class to say the least. She's a good teacher, but expects a LOT out of her students. I spent more time on this class than all my others combined and still got a C. Her tests are really hard and you're always crunched for time. I would only take her class if you love chemistry and want a challenge.
I was nervous to take this class but i really enjoyed it. She is very helpful if you ask a question. Take good notes and if you don't understand look in the book or go see her during office hours. makes chemistry fun (if that's humanly possible) :)
Overall she is a fairly decent professor. She explains things pretty well with a lot of examples. However, it would've been more helpful if she used something other than water for once. Her tests are pretty difficult and she must think everyone is a great test taker cuz half the class will be still taking the test as time runs out!
she's amazing! a lil fast, but especially if you've had chem before, you will seriously do fine. Do you're problem sets each day!!! Don't wait til the last day. GREAT TEACHER was my fav class
Very helpful but also challenging. She does lots of examples on the board in class; goes back over material if you ask her to. Her tests are pretty intense, but do the problem sets, go to her office hours for help (she's always willing to help!), and pay attention in class and you should be fine. Recommended for chem majors.
she was extremely hard. She must think we have had as many years of chem as she has because her tests are rediculous, you'll realize you only have 5 minutes left and when you flip the page, opp. 2 more 12 point questions. but she is very helpful and will do anything to help you succeed!
Great chem teacher. She has more practice problems with their full solutions available than any teacher you have ever had before. That is a promise. (with hand written logic on how the solutions are found.) Most important attributes- funny, smart, and works out lots of problems in class......
Lots of examples! She gives in class problems and posts them online with full solutions, there are weekly problem sets, but tests are killer! :( but very nice and will always help whenever you need it.
If you love chem shes great, but if you are taking the class for a gen ed take a different professor. She explains better than any other teacher with lots of examples, but her tests are ridiculous and you often don't even have time to finish them.
Prof. Loh is an awesome, fantastic, lecture professor. Her problem sets are challenging and graded a bit harshly but they help with understanding the material. Gives good examples and doesn't move too fast. Her tests will absolutely crush you into a fine powder. Really be ready to work in this class. She is good in lecture but tests are impossible.
This class was rediculous. you think you know whats going on and you get to the test and like i dont know any if this. 1 studied atleat 20 hours just for the final and still only got a 50%. if you really like chem take it with her but if you need it for your bio major take someone else
Very difficult class. Need to put in a lot work outside of class. Practice tests on D2L were helpful in preparing for tests. Tests were ridiculou, especially the multiple choice questions. She teaches at a very fast pace and talks really fast but she is a very smart professor and really knows her stuff. She is also very helpful outside of class.
She talked very fast, but was always at her office hours and most of the time eager to help. As long as you work the extra problem sets and tests on D2L before a test you should do well. Working with a group was a must to succeed. problem sets were extremely difficult to do alone.
She's brilliant and friendly...but the class is ridiculous
She is very smart and really interested in chemistry. She is approachable and has a nice sense of humor during lecture. However, her tests are hard and written to take the entire time of the class, making you feel rushed; although, she lets you use a notecard.
Way harder than the other CHM 104 professors. The main problem being that her tests are simply too long. She also fell way behind the lab schedule which made it much more difficult to do well in the labs.
She does an awesome job explaining concepts and is always extremely willing to answer any questions. However, her ridiculous exams lower her overall worth. I only finished 1 of the 6 exams in this class. She makes them way too hard and way too long for the given time. Plus, the problem sets are about 5 pages (front+back) but only worth 10 points.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! She is easily the hardest chemistry teacher here. She will do nothing but lower your GPA.
I had her for lab. Always had questions. Always had quizzes. The quizzes were really hard. She finds so many ways to mark of points, even on data sheets. I'm getting an A or AB in lecture and probably a C in lab.
RECOMMENDED FOR ALL CHEMISTRY MAJORS!!!!! She will give all chem majors a good base before advancing to higher level chem's. Very clear, very helpful to all, and will always answer questions. Test are not that hard, don't take the reviews to seriously. Go to class and discussions, take the problems sets seriously, and you will be just fine!
just do the problem sets immediately after class each day so you remember what they're asking and everything is familiar. the tests are long and yes you have to study 5-20 hours per test. but this is college. get used to working. loh is an awesome teacher. she can be unclear at times, but i definitely recommend! shes not impossible.
Definitely recommend her. She's not the easiest teacher out there, but if you do the problem sets and actually go to class and PAY ATTENTION, you'll do well. She's nice and extremely helpful. Prepares you well for the future
Dr. Loh is awesome. She will answer any questions you have and explain the same concept to you 5 times over if needed. Chemistry isn't easy, but if you GO and pay attention, you'll do just fine because she is very thorough in lecture. She allows a notecard on tests which is a LIFESAVER
Love this professor. Really got to know each students and wants to help. Funny class to attend sometimes, attendance isnt mandatory, yet you basically need to get in order to get an A. exams are decent, not too hard if you study a couple days before
I had Dr. Loh only for lab. Her quizzes were very hard compared to the other lab instructors, and she always find little places to take point off on assignments, but she is very helpful when you ask. She learned all of our names by the second lab and will always return quizzes and work by the next lab. Even though tricky, not a bad choice for lab
Best professor I have ever had at UWL. I wished she taught ever chemistry course offered. Extremely helpful especially if you go to her office hours. Exams are reasonable study and pay attention in class and you will do fine. Definitely take her makes material easy to understand and very approachable!
First, Dr. Loh is brilliant, nice, and willing to help. She's a good teacher and lectures are clear but fast. HOWEVER, if you're not awesome at algebra or a stellar chem major, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I'm a mostly A student, but I worked hard to get a C in her class. Exams are ludicrous and way too long. Unless you're a stud, she will hurt your GPA.
Dr. Loh moves insanely fast when taking notes, but she is extremely approachable. In order to do well you need to know your notes backwards and forwards because exams are hard and questions are tricky.
If you are not a chemistry major I would advise against taking this class. IT WILL LOWER YOUR GPA. Tests are insanely long for amount of time allowed. Professor Loh is a good professor and willing to help but class is insanely difficult.
This was, without a doubt, the hardest course I've yet taken. Her tests are 2.5 hours of content for a 2 hour test, each question is multi-part, and easily twice as hard as the problem sets. Still, Dr. Loh is very personable and a great lecturer. I would advise everyone NOT a chemistry major to take a different instructor; she'll only hurt your GPA
The material is taught at a quicker pace, she expects that you remember everything you did in 103, but also gives you a cheat sheet for reference. Although this class is tough, her problem sets and sample problems are comparable to what is on the exam. Do the practice tests she does online. You also get a 4x6 notecard front and back. USE IT!
Dr. Loh is a great teacher who makes the class active and entertaining. She has high expectations and goes in depth farther than other chem 104 teachers but she gives you all the resources needed to do well in the class and while challenging, it ultimately prepares you better for future chem classes. Chem 104 is not easy regardless of the professor
I recommend Dr. Loh for everyone, take her if you can. Her lectures are clear and to the point. She also gives tons of examples. There are weekly problem sets, but ultimately, they prepare you for the exam more than anything else. Notecards are allowed on the exams, so they're tough but manageable.
She is honestly the best professor I've had yet. She is quick to answer emails, always available for help, has extra credit, and gives notecards. Chem is hard, but I would say she makes understanding it better. All lectures are on whiteboard so attendance is mandatory.
She means well and is a kind person, but not a great professor. She often seems frazzled, grades harshly, and gives weekly problem sets that are manageable, but the exams are much harder. She responds to emails and is willing to meet, but her explanations often confuse you even more. CHM 104 is hard, If possible, take a different professor.
Dr. Loh was a great professor for 104. She gives note cards on exams, offers lots of extra credit, gives weekly problem sets to help you keep up with material, posts lecture notes, and gives you days to turn in homework late. She made 104 a lot more doable. She does talk very fast though, but you learn to adjust to her pace.
The professor is great - makes the class active and engaging. While challenging, she provides all the resources needed to do well. Chem 104 is tough, but her teaching style and Unstuck AI made studying a breeze.
Her lectures are really fun and fast-paced but makes learning the information easy
A LOT of extra credit. She is very understanding. If an exam gets a low average she gives a secondary take home exam of pure extra credit. Overall I probably had 30 points of extra credit. She is very sparatic minded in her teaching. But she does lecture very well and makes sure everyone understands. She is very approchable and kind hearted.
She lectures well, but the in class problems we do together are very easy. The homework problems are near impossible (will need to spend time in tutor each week), and the exams are somewhere in between. The assignments make up a bulk of the overall grade so actually do good on them. She is one of the best chem professors. TAKE HER.
She is the BEST professor I have had at UWL. She is so down to earth and understanding, and offers so many extra credit opportunities. She isn't too tough of a grader and gives a lot of partial credit. I had to study a lot to do well in this class, but that was expected as its chem 2. If you put in the work to study you will do very well.
Absolute gem! Very clear on expectations. 10 problem sets, 4 exams, and a final. Lots of opportunity for extra credit. Very easy to talk to and ask for help when needed. Lectures are written on the board so go! A harder class but if you put in the work you'll do great. I would recommend her for CHM 104 over and over again!!!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. She is such a good professor and wants everyone to succeed she's also super funny. She gives a lot of extra credit and partial credit. Her exams aren't too difficult and her lectures are amazing. I don't have enough good things to say about her. If you can, TAKE HER.
Dr. Loh was an amazing professor. She gives very good lectures and makes her notes accessible after class my posting pictures. She also offers different extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. She makes it clear what will be on exam. She is also very accessible and I recommend attending the discussion. Class builds on itself, stay on it
