Class is easy, but she's too much to deal with. She shrieks at the front of the class while her crew of gestapo patrol the lecture hall for cell phones and coffee. Her over-the-top attitude is enough to make me not want to come to class. Please put away the microphone; my ears hurt.
she is easily the best prof i have ever had! take her class, she is amazing!!
Really perky in the morning=annoying. knows her stuff but always wants to engage you in conversation. better teaching small classes but u can't get that at uconn. Requires online posting to "continue the conversation in lecture today". read a lot of plays. read from stupid textbook on theater which proved pointless. Overall she is ok.
great professor!
The worst. Obnoxious & pompous, invades your space/privacy. If you take notes on your comp. she'll monitor its use & reprimand you if you even momentarily switch screens to check your email. Books are over $200 & she makes you buy & register clickers for attendance. She posts quizzes w/o warning b/c she expects daily contributions to HuskyCT- AWFUL.
Every second of this class was horrible. She was unbearable, and she thought her class was the most important thing in the world. She took herself so seriously but anyone in the class who wasn't obsessed with Drama thought she was a joke. I am so glad it's over.
What are you talking about???! The quizzes are posted in advance. there's no surprize
BEST PROFESSOR!! sooooo easy got an A....gives huge amounts of extra credit...write an extra credit paper about 2 movies u saw and get 5 points added to ur FINAL GRADE...easy quizzes take her honestly
such an easy class. she might be a little perky and into the whole theatre stuff but overall she is really nice. she cares about your grade and wants you to do well. it might be a lot of reading, but sparknotes definitely helped out. the quizzes are cake, study the review sheet and you'll ace the tests. she gives out extra credit. great class.
RECOMMENDED! Easiest Class ever. She follows her syllabus to the core, her tests are based off of her "clicker questions" ans study sheet she posts on huskyCT, and she gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Its was actually a fun class too. I barely use the textbook though - can find all you need for vocab online, same with her plays you read.
She is fairly easy. Her TA's are annoying though so make sure you are on their good side. Book is fairly useless.
Sorry, but anyone who actually enforces the no coffee rule (especially in the morning) gets no points from me. Also, this woman needs to learn that being loud and perky might work for children, but college kids find it annoying. It's irritating how she tries to make sure everyone is paying attention. It's a drama class, lady. Chill out.
She is absolutly the most obnoxious/annoying person I have ever seen, a true "drama queen". That being said, this class was extremely easy, probably the easiest A you will ever get. The books she uses are not needed, don't waste your money. Everything you need to know is on wikipedia or google.
Real out of touch with what its like being a college student
She is the most annoying person ever. Takes her job WAY to seriously... it's drama. Super perky, should be a kindergarten teacher. Way too hard for what the class is SUPPOSED to be. Do not take this class! Books are wayyyy too over priced. She should learn that no one takes this class seriously, except for her of course.
Pretty easy class, even more so if you already know about theatre. You don't really need to do the readings, but you need to go to class because of the clickers.
She is so cute, and she clearly loves what she does! It's an easy class with little work. Just show up and pay attention.
I love love love this woman. She is so eager to teach. So caring and just wants everyone to learn about theater and do well. Her midterm and final aren't hard but attending class definitely makes it easier seeing she gives a lot of the multiple choice questions in lecture. An easy A if you go to class. Can be a fun class and Macki is great!
LOVED this semesters class! Easy A but also learned alot and she helps you learn it too! the exams are straight forward no tricks! go to lecture and take notes. study them and youll do fine! awesome class!
If you go to class and take notes you dont need the book, if you dont want to go to class then read the book. Either way easy A. She is enthusiastic about the subject. Good gen ed class
class sucks but its an easy A. dont need the book, no in class group work after the midterm, no real homework besides a project right before the final
One of the best teachers I've ever had. I wanna be an actor... her class kept my dream alive. She does so many things to make it interesting like having guest speakers come in, showing movies, and giving her GA's a chance to teach. The best thing about her is that she truly cares about you. Not you, person in seat D4, you [insert name here].
I honestly loved this class. It was easy, fun, and interesting even if you're not into theater. It's an easy arts gen-ed, with lots of extra credit opportunities. She doesn't post notes so you do have to go to class but it's worth it!
Easy A. Good Gen Ed class. She's pretty enthusiastic about theater, and her TA's practically give you 100's as long as you turn in your work on time. Textbook not needed if you go to class. Final was open notebook. The only flaw? No laptop, but you get used to it.
If she could teach every class I took in college, I wouldn't want summer breaks. She is one of the best professors I've ever had. She's so genuinely interested in what she's teaching and she wants all her students (who she says she views as her own kids) to succeed. I'm not the least bit interested in theatre, but I look forward to this class.
Not a difficult class, but annoying work for someone not interested in the theatre. Be aware that she has no problem putting students who don't raise their hands on the spot in front of a lecture of 200 people. Pretty easy class but be prepared for an annoyingly perky professor who treats you like you're in high school.
easy class if you do the readings and even if you dont do the readings which are plays, you discuss them in class anyways. Professor macki is really chill about missing class and the only time you really have to go is when you have a quiz which are half pop quizzes half assigned. She also gives a ton of extra credit during the class.
Adrienne is a kind professor who really wants to make sure students get the most out of class, even if they aren't interested in drama at all. She tries to connect the class material to all different areas of study so all students can benefit from it. Some of her teaching methods are juvenile & there is a decent amount of outside work, but not bad
Ugh, she's nice and all but she treats you like an elementary schooler, and god forbid you miss an in class assignment you will not be able to make it up. She gives out participation points but half the time you participate you don't get any points. It is still an easy class, just be prepared to be treated like you're 6 and to be bored
Must go to class for the notes because she doesn't post them online which is annoying. She's a good professor but treats you like you're in high school. Have to attend two plays during the semester & she offers a lot of extra credit. Overall boring class if you're not interested in theatre, but it's not that difficult to get an A.
Honestly, I would not recommend this. I feel like it is way too much work for a gen ed. Although Macki is extremely enthusiastic and energized, it does not make up for the work you have to do. Also, I feel like half the lectures were given by guest speakers which I found annoying.
Do not buy the textbook, waste of money. Really easy class but she treats everyone like preschoolers and she hardly ever teaches, it's all guest speakers!! And she calls on people around the room and gets offended if you can't repeat word for word what someone before you said.
I wouldn't recommend this class if you want to take an easy gen ed. She really makes you work for the grade, and sometimes, despite trying your best, you'll get a B.
Lectures drag on and she doesn't post up the power points which forces you to go to class.
Great professor. Very animated and makes the material learnable. I loved this course with her. Going to class isn't necessary to do well but it does help to go so the material can sink in. Really depends on individual learning style. The material in the book is pretty much what she lectures on besides the guest lectures. Overall great class.
Professor Macki makes you work way harder for a drama class than you would ever expect. Be sure to go to class, even though it is completely boring and awful, with guest speakers quite often. If you don't read the syllabus, you will walk into class one day and realize that you had a 1700 word essay in response to an entire play due 5 minutes ago.
Macki Braconi is a perfect example of someone whose passion about the subject makes you interested. She is easily one of the most intelligent professors I've ever had and you can tell she loves what she does. I have very little interest in theatre and am considering taking another class just because I like her that much.
Dr. Macki is very passionate about the class. That said, for someone not interested in theatre and taking this gen-ed, it was extremely dull. She does offer plenty of extra credit, but the papers she assigns are way too long for a gen-ed. Not a bad professor, but prepare to be bored and treated like a middle schooler.
Make sure you read the syllabus to know when upcoming quizzes are and papers are due. Forces you to go to two plays that you have to pay for. Exams very easy as long as you read the plays or at least a summary of the plays. Two decently long papers about the plays you go and see.
If you have no interest in Theatre and are just taking this class for a gen ed you probably wont like it because you do so much work that the TAs barely keep up with the grading. The work is not hard i's just too time consuming. She makes it too demanding for an intro level gen ed. Her slides are also as wordy and disorganized as her lecture style.
Really depends more on the TA you get. Don't take as Gen- Ed even as a senior who likes drama this was way too much for an intro course. TAs barely keep up with the grading and extra credit is few and far between when too many people want to usher. She also does not post her REALLY wordy slides.
I am currently in the middle of taking this course and thought it would be an easy Gen-Ed, but it really isn't. The teacher takes it way too seriously, and does not post her very wordy slides but expects you to write it all down after two seconds of it being on the screen. Don't take this class even if you are interested in theatre.
Class is long and boring. She gets into every minute detail about theatre and takes the class WAY too seriously for a gen-ed. You sign up for this class thinking it will be easy... it's not. This class is not worth the 3 credits you receive or 80 minutes of your life that you really can't get back. STEAR CLEAR
Macki is awesome! She has so much energy and is clearly very passionate about the subject. The quizzes and exams are very clear and straightforward. My only complaint is that she doesn't post her slides online, but as long as you read the textbook you should be totally fine! If you enjoy theatre, this class will be a total breeze.
The class is not hard by any means but it is just boring and a pain to go to. She is very enthusiastic about what she is teaching but fails make the material interesting or relatable. Basically I was just constantly thinking to myself "why do I even need to know this" because a lot of what she talks about it irrelevant.
MacKi's class is easy and straight forward BUT her class is IMPOSSIBLE to sit through. She must drink an entire gallon of coffee before each class and routinely jumps and screams around the room. Her favorite activity is calling on students and then INTERRUPTING them or presenting novels on her slides and expecting you to jot it down in 2.5 seconds
I loved this class! Professor Macki was so energetic and made the topics very interesting. There are some plays that you are required to read but they are interesting. In order to succeed, you have to show up to class because she does not post the slides and do the readings. There are pop quizzes in class as well.
One of the most annoying professors I have ever had. She takes this class way to seriously for a gen ed as there is a lot of readings and activities you have to do outside of this class. She does not give clear instructions for assignments as we had a paper and she spent 30 minutes of lecture answering questions about her directions for it.
This class was recommended to me by friends as an easy class covering content area 1. Sadly, she changed the material from last year and it ended up being 10x harder than I anticipated. Macki now requires the expensive book; lecture is mandatory, but no time is given to copy down the slides. Too much work outside of class, unnecessarily hard gen-ed
Worse class I've taken at Uconn. DO NOT TAKE if you're looking for an easy Gen-Ed. You have to pay $80 for the online textbook withquizzes due on it every week. Dr. Macki has way too much energy, she's hard to listen to and made me want to skip every single class. TA's don't grade the two essays easy either, even though this is an intro class...
Macki has no clear purpose for each day and I leave class knowing no more than when I came in. Her energy is chaotic and distracting and she interrupts students even after she asks them a question. That being said, I never went to class and still passed with an A.
DRAM 1101 has a lot of reading and the midterm exam is all based on the information from the online textbook. Lectures were not necessarily boring because she is very passionate about theatre, but lectures repeat what's said in the textbook. If your schedule is filled with lots of reading based classes, this course might be challenging to manage.
Prof. Macki taught with enthusiasm and was very knowledgable. Her class requires students to be present and engaged, therefore I would recommend it to students who are truly passionate about theatre. While her personality is very over the top, I enjoyed seeing productions by UConn students, and learning more about the arts. Overall, she was okay.
She is a nice professor and cares a lot about theatre get ready to be out of your comfort zone (she teaches very different) She is understanding when it came to online class but she does give a lot of work. Discussion boards due every week & are very complex. She expects you to write a lot and give a lot of detail. No exam, quizzes, or powerpoints.
Cares a lot about this topic. She does give a lot of readings for discussion posts and those reading you have to connect it when writing your post. If your work is late she will take off points everyday that it is late. Get ready to ready and write a lot. This class was hard to manage while having other priorities during this semester.
Prof Macki is really nice, VERY eccentric and a little out there but she means well. The syllabus is a little hard to understand and can be disorganized sometimes, but the GAs will clarify with you. Overall its an easy A class.
Subpar teaching, tedious assignments, you'll probably walk away with more credits but that's about it. Not a big fan, and seems a bit noncaring for students
She loves this subject a lot but gives way to many readings/videos for class. She is a tough grader and will let you know why she gave you that grade. Get ready to do discussion boards every week ( you must write a lot in your post or she will lower your grade and says its to thin or little! ) I would not recommend this class because it is not easy
I took this class online and it wasn't bad. We had weekly quizzes that were based on the textbook reading. Assignments that required long responses were graded pretty toughly and needed to be detailed. There is a final project instead of a final exam. Overall if you complete all the assignments to the best of your ability you should be fine.
Take this class if you need an easy elective. Trust me, you won't regret it. It takes minimal time and there is hardly any work. She is also a very fun professor.
Macki was an interesting professor, extroverted and nice, but her personality can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. Course itself wasn't terrible, took it for a gen ed requirement. Readings were boring and quizzes were easy if you read the required readings. The final project was a lot of writing, but if you stay on top of it, you're good.
This class was very easy and often interesting. At times felt disorganized and unclear, but easy to get past, the final project is due before finals week (worth a large part of grade, descriptions unclear, but easy if you do the work). In lecture she often gave extra credit just for participating and there are other opportunities outside of class.
She clearly cares about the subject, but grades really harshly. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there's a lot of group work that is graded, so in a way it is.
Don't take this class if you are looking for an easy A. If you miss class at all and there happens to be group work your grade will job significantly because the group work is weighted so heavy. She will only give you a couple minutes to do the group work so its not fair at all.
I can't stress enough how pointless this course is! The grading is unnecessarily harsh for the level of course. There are in class group assignments graded for "participation" but dont think because you showed up and participated you will get full credit, points will be taken off with no explanation.
Don't take this class, like please do not take it. It is all just busy work, that is graded way too harshly and such a waste of time
Don't take this class unless you like wasting your time. Grading criteria is unclear and assignments are graded very harsh for no reason. Class meets once a week but attendance is mandatory as there is partner/group work graded. Take literally anything else if you need the content area.
This is the most unorganized and worst class I have EVER taken Group work every week with unclear expectations and VERY TOUGH grading for absolutely no reason. Takes off a bunch of points for not including things that we didn't know we were supposed to include in the first place. The biggest waste of time ever take literally any other class ANY
Needs to learn how to make assignments clear so we can actually do well on assignments. Instead she assigns disorganized group work in class and then grades it super hard. Doesn't accept late work and isn't understanding if you need to miss a class for personal reasons. Biggest waste of time ever and it will ruin your gpa even if you try
lots of in-class assignments, very short time and almost no instructions, and bad grades bc its not enough. tons of awkward group work. Heavily graded on the final project which you are given less than a week to work on with a 5 person group. gives extra credit opportunity but waits till the end of the semester "to decide" what it is worth
I was actually excited to take this gen ed course however, she made it extremely difficult for me to enjoy this class. The TA I had was the hardest grader Ive ever had. I could not get an A on any journal or reflection no matter how much effort I put in. She gives horrible directions on what is to be expected and is NOT understanding about things.
Do not take this class if you like organization and cohesion. AC Macki is a free thinker who has a passion for theatre but does not organize her lessons well at all. Her TAs are extremely tough graders on things that are opinion-based. This class felt way to advanced for an introduction to theatre class.
Do not take this class. She is so insanely unorganized. Also the ta's are extremely hard graders on things that are opinion based. I can not stress enough, do not take this class
Do yourself a favor and take something else. Grading was excessively harsh while assignment guidelines were vague. The instructor created an uncomfortable class atmosphere with many awkward in class activities that included recordings and pictures. Class was way more difficult than it needed to be. Not a pleasant experience, do not recommend.
Class is made way harder than it needs to be. No late work is accepted at all. Online quizzes on the textbook software, as well as quizzes about plays you have to read. Essentially weekly group work in class, almost always confusing and poorly planned. One tip if you are taking this class is to write a LOT for your assignments to get max credit.
Ridiculously hard grader. Messy lectures. Feels impossible to succeed in this class. Group projects were super awkward and instructions were very unclear. She is passionate about theater -- its nice to have a passionate professor, but wish she would have been more organized and kinder at grading. Definitely not an easy art credit.
This class was insanely unorganized and everyone in the class was always confused. Her instructions for projects were difficult to understand and very vague. Too many people for a class like this. Stray away from this class please!!!!!!
There are so many courses at UConn, save yourself from the frustration and take something else instead. The lectures are all over the place and the assignments are confusing with poor instructions. You are graded as if they are expecting you to have a PhD in theater. This class is awkward and pointless. So much awkward group work and pointless hw
AC is a super sweet woman and really takes the time to get to know her students. Honestly, the class is not difficult-- but there is A LOT of group work. While I happened to really like my group that I worked with, it can definitely be a bit awkward and seemingly unnecessary. The final project is also a lot of work, given that this is a gen ed.
This class, quite simply, was easy. Sometimes instructions were vague and I feel like I missed some serious points because of that, but it's a Gen Ed. Take this class IF YOU LIKE THEATER! I would avoid it if you do not. AC is passionate about it and wants people to enjoy it, but the class is a bit unorganized.
AC is an unorganized and confusing professor. It is very difficult to navigate the Husky CT, it is very unclear what is required and when, and she does little to properly prepare students for large projects and tests. She is lenient with late work but will present large and grandiose projects with only one weekend to a week to finish. Too confusing
AC is a fun professor. However, sometimes assignments aren't clear. There's a lot of group work which is annoying at times, especially if you end up in a bad group. The final was a nightmare, so much work. The content is interesting, fun, and leaves room for a lot of your own interpretation. Just do the work and show effort and you'll get an A.
The other reviews aren't realistic. AC is a perfectly fine professor and she does care a lot about the course. The assignments and their location could be clearer. Overall It isn't too bad.
If you need to take a class for an art credit, do not take this class. AC Macki is a nice professor, but most of her lectures feel unorganized and disjointed. The class isn't that hard, but you will have to do lots of unnecessary and pointless busy work, alongside group discussions that add nothing to the class. Stay away and take something else.
She is nice, but the lectures feel so unorganized, and there is so much unnecessary group work. I would recommend taking another class if you need an art requirement.
Passionate and nice person. Fair work and grading within the course. Although at times assignments can be a bit unclear, if you need an art credit I would take this course.
I can't explain the complete disorganization regarding this course with her. She will not grade assignments until weeks later, so when she gives corrections, there is nothing you can do. Her blackboard page is disorganized and you cannot find anything clearly. Will not talk with you about grades unless scheduled office hours, inconvenient. Selfish
