At firts I thought the class was going to be very had, but the truth is if you study and do what you are told you won't fail. I totally recommend this teacher she is very nice and helpful. She also makes sure that you understand and actually learn something.

She's a great teacher. Her class is very easy. The class is based on class discussion and power points to go along with the discussion. Tests are very easy, she tells you exactly what you need to know and what is gonna be on the tests. She also tells you the essay questions ahead of time so you have time to prepare for it. HIGHLY RECOMEND HER!!!!

She is a great Professor, I'm actually going to miss that class, but you need to pay attention to the discussions and study guides, if she says to know something it's for a reason. The class can be the funniest time if you just do what you have to first and than full around later. I highly recomend her!

All I can say is it's best to attend class or you're likely to miss out on what you'll be tested on.

Mrs. Mathews is a great teacher. She makes the information interesting and has a great sense of humor. She is open to everyones opinions and prefers when students voice them. I will miss this class alot, it was my favorite and not only do you learn but you laugh alot. I really recommend her highly! Take this class, you wont regret it.

Mathews is great, she involves everyone through discushions, all of her exams are short answer or essay answer so its importaint to be able to explain. She gives a good amount of points on easy assignments through semester so if you dont do that well on Exams you wont have too bad a grade.

Grades very hard on exams. Especially for only having 3 for the entire semester.

this was my favorite class! she is always open for class dicussions and actually encourages it. there are 3 exams worth 70% of total grades, they are somewhat challenging but she gives you the questions in advanced and will gladly answer them for you if you go and see her. i really enjoyed the class! take her!

Be willing to work for your grade! There are only 3 tests but she answers all the questions before hand. I hated politics and left the class loving politics and her:)

She was a good professor but grades really hard on exams. I studdied like nothing else and barely passed her class with doing all the homework! A lot of work but class discussions were always interesting.

Very hard class. if you want a class where all you have to do is take the notes, study them, and take tests she is NOT for you. she doesnt lay out the notes word for word, nor does she go over everything you need to know for the tests. SO that means for this class you have to do your own research for the test questions if you want an A or even a B

I took her for Government, and had no interest in the subject at all until I heard her lecture. She is very passionate about the subject and knows what she is talking about. You do have to take notes, and the text book is rarely used. The workbook is essential to passing the class though. If you show up, and pay attention, you will pass.Great prof

Awesome! Strict-head strong, & demands respect. Stay away from pushing her buttons, she WILL call you out! Dislikes tardiness, cell phones, & neglect for priorities. Not a big work load. Tests are kinda hard. Not an easy A, but easy pass. You can find her in her office hrs for extra help. She will help you, no exuse for lack of understanding. HOT!!

I really enjoyed this class. Tests are extremely hard but she gives you all the information you need to know. If you study you will have no problem. She really made the subject interesting and she knows what she is talking about. I recommend highly. Just be sure to do all homework and STUDY!!

She is hard and she puts you to work for a good grade. Her tests are hard and each question is three part essay form. She lost my interest third day of class. Don't believe me take her, otherwise stay away, there are better professors.

shes a great government professor. You actually learn in this class, and it isnt boring even though its US GOV. Dont take this class if you dont care about school. Do your work, do your hw bc she does check it. EXAM: she gives you questions b4 hand! and she goes over the answers in class incorporating it in lectures. shes KOOL! her classes are fun

shes a great person and i liked her views on alot of subjects however she grades ridicuously hard. expects to a perticular written answer and doesnt take any bs or beating around the bush at all. doesnt give partial credit. will call you out and embarass you for being late and takes points off your final grade every hour/class you miss.

Stay away test are very hard and require a lot of writing checks homework and hates when you are late take another professor.

Favorite thing about this professor is your not getting a liberal or conservative, she is very unbiased and looks at things from all perspectives. Test are written but if you listen your going to do well, she explains things very well, lots of interaction with other students. Not a boring interaction class, and she is kinda hot.

Prof is AWESOME! She is very passionate and teaches because she loves politics. If you ask, she will assist you and work through problems with you. Is in her office a lot. Will not spoon feed you information though! You need to ensure your writing explains HOW you arrived at an answer. Difficult grading, will asisst you before test on answers

Prof. Mathews is great but she does play favorites a little. She puts you into a group and a majority of the class is spent with you in your group. Take notes starting on day one and do all of the homework. These will help with the exams. The 3 exams equal 70% of your grade and they are essay style with three parts. Difficult but not impossible.

Mrs. Mathews was a great teacher. Yes we had groups in class, but she always walked around and answered any questions we had. The groups were to see things from everyone else?s point of view; something we all tend to not do. Tests are essay style, so you have to know what you're writing, she will read it! I learned a lot!

She has the students do lots of writing, NONE of the exams are multiple choice. All exams are esay questions, each question has 3 sub parts. Yet out of a 10 question exam you only have 4 questions and you know 2 ahead of time. Difficult but you do learn your stuff.

Great professor! Always willing to help and explains everything through. The subject is tough but she tries to make it easier for the students. Definitely recommend her =)

She wants great detail n ur answers on tests.She speaks quickly & most of the notes u needs r verbal so I was forced 2 purchase a taperecorder 4 her class alone.She is funny and nice and pretty easy otherwise.

She was an awesome professor and i really enjoyed her class. She's smart and a very nice person, It is not an easy A because the subject matter is difficult, but she attempts to do her best to explain it.

Great online class Highly recommend. This subject could be very dry but you get into it because of the critical thinking exercises. Plenty of time to get work in if you don't spread yourself too thin with other clases. Online is a great way to take this class and she is a great professsor to teach and keep it interesting

Great Teacher! I struggled all throughout the class because I wasn't sure what she wanted, so after asking (she replies quickly!) it turned out that my writing was immature for a college student. She is such a sweetheart and I would do anything to take a class with her again! A++++

Really enjoyed the class. Textbook wasn't absolutely necessary but nice to have occasionally. Exams/Quizzes were relatively easy if you were in class and participated in the discussions. She only called people out when they were having conversations outside of the group discussions or coloring which actually happened oddly enough.

Online class is work intensive. Tests are very difficult. I do know a lot more about politics now compared to when I started. I have never had the pleasure of meeting her but she seems very nice.

I took this professor twice, once for "US Government" and again for "Government and the Media". Although they were somewhat difficult, she never assigned students with more than they could handle. I rather enjoy the class time (she encourages class discussion). I recommend her as a Professor!! One of my favorites at Valencia.

Awesome professor who loves teaching gov't and is very lively to be around. She is clear and concise with what her expectations are. You just have to put forth effort in this class. I never read a complete chapter, but got A's on all of my exams due to how thorough her study guide and class discussions were. I definitely recommend her!

I waited to take government until last.I wasn't interested in Gov't at all. However,Professor Mathews kept the class interesting and had class discussions. She always gave study guides. I truly enjoyed learning gov't from her. Extra credit on each test is current events. I would take her if I were you.

Take this class. She is straightforward and friendly. She tries to get everyone involved in the class involved .however if you want someone to hold your hand through all of the work, this class isn't for you. Yes there is a lot of work that you have to complete on time otherwise you won't do well on the test. But the work is for your advantage.

Professor Mathews is probably the best Government professor at Valencia. Her lectures are a lot of fun and she makes everything interesting. She often shows videos and tells us about cases of how the material is applied in real life. She's not a tough grader at all. Easy A. Take her!!!!

Professor Mathews is a fantastic professor. She is always there to answer any questions you may have even if it means spending fifteen minutes with you. Very smart and funny and her class is very enjoyable.

Super helpful and gives feedback on everything. Assignments are straightforward, mostly reading a chapter and answering several short responses, one discussion question and responding to other's posts, or multiple choice question. No group projects. Final and Midterms were multiple choice, she takes the higher of two tries. No papers at all!

I am taking time to actually write her a recommendation bc she is an angel from heaven. Literally, she helps you in anything you need. anything. she is there for you. She is like your personal mentor. REALLY!

The most supportive professor I have ever had!!! She's always there for her students. She always comes to class really prepared and is really educated. Saying tests are tough is the understatement of the year. Through the entire semester, in the entire class only TWO students were ever able to ace tests. Tests are made to confuse and stump you. However Professor Matthews is extremely knowledgable on her subject and will go out of her way to help you if you ask for it.

Prof. Mathews is so amazing and knowledgable on the subject. She will go out of her way to help you and seems really invested in teaching. The workload for IDH 2120 is just terrible, the class is extremely interesting but the amount of reading makes me not wanna do it.

Prof. Mathews is an amazing interdisciplinary professor. She really cares about her students and their success. She is very responsive and understands her students. She understands that students are humans too. She challenges her students with intense work and discussions.

Professor Matthews is definitely one of the best professors at Valencia. While the IDH classes are very challenging she is always, I mean ALWAYS, there to help you. She is very hands on in class, makes the material interesting and engaging, and encourages lots of discussion. If you are thoughtful and engaged in class you'll do fine.

I took this online in the summer, every week there was between 2-4 things due, it is not an easy A but you can recieve an A by applying readings, I always went above the word count because there are so many parts to her assignments, it is just tedious work but in the end it is not too bad. Bunch of articles. She replies fast, helpful, very nice.

The best online class I have ever taken. Though the work is time consuming, Professor Mathews only offers the best feedback and grades appropriately. Her rubric and instructions are detailed and clear.

I took Professor Mathew's online State and Local Gov't. Honors class. It was a good class. She showed us exactly what to do, and always gave good feedback on my work. She was also quick with responses to emails I sent. As a part of the honors class, we had to read and evaluate articles, which she picked to coincide with the book and real life.

Professor Mathews was great! She stated what she wanted from you and just expects you to deliver. Study for the test by just doing simple readings and what she tells you. We had one group project which is fairly easy to do and present. Couple of homeworks and in class activity and participation. Don't be afraid to ask questions and do your best.

This is my second time taking a class with Professor Mathews. She is a great professor, and always makes learning about government interesting. She provides good feedback on different quizzes and discussions we had, and handled the shift due to the Coronavirus pandemic well. We did have a group project, but it was fun and not hard to do well on.

Even thought Professor Mathews claims to not have taught this class in a while she did a great job. This is not my favorite subject as this is a required course. She taught well not just from powerpoints and she's nice. Despite COVID- 19 she was a good professor.

Dr. Matthews wants you to succeed! She is very knowledgeable and is more than happy to answer questions. She has clear expectations and guidelines for you and she isn't that hard. Her tests can be a little hard, but if you just study a bit more than you normally would, it shouldn't be an issue. I highly recommend her!

This is my second time taking Professor Mathews's class. I highly recommend her. She is knowledgeable and yet humble. She would explain problems in an easy way for you to understand. Everything in class is in perfect order. Her classes are well prepared and long as you put effort into them, you'll learn more than expected.

Professor Mathews is a great professor. She assigns one quiz assignment a week, all the answers are word for word in the textbook and most of it is multiple choice. Her class is simple and pretty clear-cut. The textbook is needed. There are a few critical thinking papers that every professor assigns and 1 group project. 100% recommend her class!!!

Very kind! The quizzes are a bit annoying, but overall not a hard class at all. She's extremely kind and understanding. I recommend her if you are looking for an easy and relaxing class.

Professor Matthews is an amazing professor! I took her Honors government class but it is essentially the same as a regular government class. She really cares for her students and works with you if you're ever late on assignments. As long as you do your work and participate in class its hard not to pass this class with an A.

Prof Mathews is by far the best professor I have had at Valencia. I chose her hybrid course and class was every Monday where her lectures were more of a conversation with equals. I didn't realize how little I knew and she didn't give me a complex about it. She's very caring and understanding, so keep open communication with her.

Took her for SYG2010H. Her lectures are great, very interactive, and not boring, just make sure you participate. We had to work on the Honors AI project, which was kinda bad, but if the class wasn't honors, it would have been perfect. She is very understanding and communicative!

The class was very interesting from start to finish. I admit I don't usually pay attention, but this class made me reflect and actually LEARN. The course material is easy to understand, homework is very light and you only have to write one paper for the course (a draft and final paper). Impossible to fail this class.

Very kind and truly cares about the students. I took it mixed mode so we'd meet up once a week and she'd expect that you had already read over the chapter we were discussing, and we'd discuss it as a class. The assignments consisted of Smartbooks (weekly) discussions (like 4 per semester), and 1 midterm+ a final. Very engaging class, I'd recommend!
