wow. where to begin. a very test heavy class, she teaches to the test but does an AWFUL job at that. her reviews look nothing like the actual test and the tests are harder than anything done in class. does an awful job at preparing, is moody especially when people leave the lecture, and absolutely will not help her students when evryone fails
Chemistry is tough as is, having a Prof who doesn't teach to the exams doesn't make it any less difficult. She offers no help outside of exams, assigns multiple homeworks throughout the week with usually less than 3 questions each, so miss one and your grade suffers, and doesn't fully explain anything. Definitely would not take her class ever again
Exams are worth a big chunk of your grade so heads up. She seems really scary but if you go to her office hours she is really nice and helpful. MAKE SURE you watch the videos of her working review questions and do the practice problems in the back of the textbook. SI sessions really come in clutch. Crealistic A in your dreams
Dr. Pedrech does not seem to care for her students and their ability to pass the class. She does her work differently than the SI leaders so it becomes very confusing when trying to follow along. She goes very fast in lectures and is not organized at all when showing her work. The review guides also end up being nothing like the tests.
Pedrech is a rough prof. She gives tests with random questions shes never covered in class, she flips through lectures so fast going back and forth between slides (which is very frustrating), and consistently makes errors teaching she has to go back and fix. I love chemistry but I wouldnt take this class again even if someone paid me.
I had her when COVID-19 made everyone go online. She was very accessible and made the transition a lot easier. She is clear in her lectures.
Professor Pedrech is a good professor, don't get me wrong. I believe her teaching was not very effective for me. Her lecture videos are helpful but it is a bit tough to follow along due to a lot of information she gives. Attendance is graded through the videos. Exams are super tough and are nothing like the exams. Class requires extra practice!
She doesnt teach and she gives so much work, you dont have time to teach yourself.
She uses a "flipped" teaching style, which means that students must learn the material before class. In class, she goes over problems, but her strategies are slow and confusing. My classmates struggle with the material and she does nothing to help them. I'm really glad that I previously took AP chemistry, because otherwise I would probably be lost.
Professor basically doesn't teach anything in class. Be prepared for tests that make you wish you had never signed up. A tutor is practically mandatory since she will NOT help you with anything. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A CLASS WITH HER.
I missed one lab because she was not clear on the date and time for lab. She said that was my fault and would not let me make up the grades. When I was exposed to Covid-19 and emailed her, she said that I had to go into lab or I would get a 0.
Do not take chem 1307 with Dr. Pedrech. She follows the curriculum that the other professors follow but will constantly get behind. During covid, we had one class in person with her where she would only solve problems in the hour and a half time frame that was class. Lots of homework with barely little explanation how to do the problems.
Overall pretty bad class, she doesnt really teach anything and most of your grade depends on exams (which are a lot harder than the homework and quizzes required for this class)
This lady sucks!!!!! My LAB TA rocked tan Nguyen. LAN report each week and a pretty lab. Dont try and get in touch with her, she dont answer emails!
I had a lab partner that never sent me the work so out of the 2 assignments every week, I failed 1. I never even met the professor. The TAs run everything. Just not a good class.
class is taught all my a TA. however any time I had a problem with a prelab or lab Pedrech would respond and help me out with it. labs were mandatory but if you felt unsafe you did not have to go. I had a great lab partner so it made life so much easier in this class.
I had an awful experience. Had an OK lab partner so it had nothing to do with that. Couldn't get any help. One of my TA's was okay and would help, the other one has the personality of my left shoe. not much to work with. all nice people, the chemistry department just sucks. don't take this class if you don't have to. and if you do, make friends
Easy A but don't expect any help from the prof. or TAs. I didn't receive a single email regarding class scheduling or expectations. It was disorganized to say the least. I emailed my TAs several times and never received a response. We were basically unsupervised in the lab and left to "figure it out" on our own. This class is VERY homework heavy!
Prof. Predrech isn't a bad professor but her style of teaching and how she conducted class didn't suit me well. The class was hybrid and she pre-recorded all of her lectures that we had to watch before class. In class we would just work the practice problems for whichever unit we were currently on. Definitely a challenging class.
I never met her; I only interacted with my TA's. I emailed her early on in the semester seeking help and never heard back from her. All I have to say is you are pretty much on your own unless your TA's are good.
She did not respond to emails in a timely manner as well as was extremely vague in her lectures. It was a hybrid course and I had trouble retaining the material because we only had her for 50 minutes a week and an LA the other 2 days which would only go through a problem sheet without explaining how they acquired the answer. Doesn't teach to exam.
About as useless a teacher that one can have, doesnt help the students even whenever it was all online and I had internet connectivity issues she still have me a zero even when I finally got the file to submit 10 minutes after it was do. Would not recommend this piece of work to anybody and shes terrible at her job
I never even met the professor, everything is run by the TA's who weren't helpful to say the least. The labs were confusing at times and it seemed like the TA's weren't interested in helping you. The majority of the class is just homework which was all online with no material from the professor. If you can help it try not to take this class.
Professor Pedrech is not in the lab most of the term, it's mostly her TA's who were very chill and helpful in my opinion. This course is associated with CHEM 1307 and you won't learn chemistry lessons in this course, only doing experiments. It was a hybrid course so scheduling was weird for me. I only like this course because of the TA's I got.
She expected you to watch lecture videos on your own time and went over practice problems in class or with LAs online. I went to office hours because I was struggling with a topic, and she told me to do the extra material instead of actually explaining it. I had private tutoring and tutoring through learning center and still barely made a C.
Considering this is lab, attendance is mandatory. From what I've heard, she isn't very clear about her help with students and gives different answers to different people. However, as long as you are participating in all parts (summaries, pre-labs, physical lab, post-labs, and reports), the grade should follow.
You don't ever even meet this professor during your labs. She doesn't help, and the student lab assistants don't do much, either. The lab summary requirement is ridiculous since you don't get to reference the procedure that you wrote up prior to the lab, and the room itself is underequipped for a full class. Good luck suffering through this class.
Professor isn't present during lectures, and the TAs don't help very much either, similar to what the person below me said. The labs information are all online and are extremely inconsistent and will mess up your grade. Shame
Not attending the class and learning solely from the textbook was my best chance of passing the course. I found that taking notes on my own resulted in 1-3 pages per chapter while my peers taking notes in class were writing about 10-20 pages per chapter. I shouldn't have to pay for a class where I have to teach myself just to be able to pass.
Find a good lab partner day one and you'll do great!! Did not see or talk to professor during semester, and the TA's werent much help, but this lab is an easy A (and pretty simple overall). We had two experiments every other week. Due dates are reasonable. You get multiple chances to get correct answers on prelabs/lab reports.
Reviews are nothing like the exams. Notes taking in class are worthless for studying. Pretty much have to be born for Chemistry to have an A. Do not take her unless it is absolutely necessary. Worst professor I have ever had.
I took this class when it was hybrid (video lectures, in-person practice questions). The videos were short and simple. It made many of the textbook concepts easy to understand. Homeworks were a little difficult. Tests were easy as long as you study. She always had extra office hours before a test to answer any questions.
I took this class when it was fully online (zoom lectures). There was homework for each chapter and they were usually harder than the test questions. 1308 has way more math than 1307 so that can either help you or make the course worse. She explains concepts very well and if you have questions, she can answer them during office hours.
The average grade for our exams ranged from a C to a D, I would rather preform my own vasectomy with no anesthetic than take this class again
Theres a better chance of my dad coming back from the store with the milk and cigarettes he said he would get than getting a good grade in this class. Most people wouldnt even show up to the lecture because it was no help and was easier to teach yourself the material.
Overall, Pedrech is a good teacher, teaches the content very professionally. The class workload isn't very hefty, literally a HW every 2 or so weeks with a post class Q after most classes which doesn't take super long. She wasn't bad but wasn't extraordinary etc. Tests can be hard so study not only the practice tests but the lec slides as well.
Dr. Pedrech is very kind and responds to emails quickly. Her teaching style was not helpful for me, she went through slides fast and expected us to solve the problems before going over the material. I stopped going to lectures because they did not help me. Instead, I used the textbook and went to SI sessions and scored higher on the exams.
They do t actually teach anything, but it's a pretty straightforward class. You follow the steps written on the board and from your lab manual and document your results. Then, you go home and complete the lab and post lab. Highly to complete lab summaries and pre labs and take a picture of the board once they have everything written.
The lab is solely ran by TAs, so it is a pretty big hit or miss when it comes to the class. The experiments are fun and relatively quick, allowing you to leave before the end of the class period. The TAs are OK, every now and then helpful, but overall could have been a lot better. Other than that, the assignments are quick and straightforward.
I cannot believe the disrespect the Texas Tech Chemistry department has for their students. I emailed Dr. Pedrech many times over the semester becasue I was having issues with some of the lab grading and she never responded or told me she could not help me. Most things were out of my control and she did not care...
Professor Pedrech gave pretty good, organized, and informative lectures, however the tests were nearly impossible. I would understand the material just fine, then youd get the test and it would be like you have 4 oranges and you give 1 away. calculate the radius of saturn
Not a great professor. Her lectures give you the information, but she does not explain the concepts well at all. Her tests are insanely difficult. Because the majority of the class fails the exams, your course grade will be curved likely a whole letter grade and then some at the end of the semester. Went from a low C to a high B.
Dr. Pedrech is the worst professor I have had at Tech. She does not care if you are struggling and if you ask for help she will ignore you. She changed the answer key to an assignment after I had submitted it, counting stuff that was previously right as wrong and it dropped my grade 3 points. I emailed her and never heard back. Horrible professor.
This is a definition of a weedout class be prepared to study. The labs are just as bad too you never get what the TA's expect. This class was my first real "college level class'' and if I had an opportunity to take it again, I would not take her.
The lectures of this class are a joke, I feel as if I watched a squirrel ride through Hogwarts screaming about their political affiliation, I would learn more about the subject. While the review for tests may seem like a breeze the actual test will leave you wanting to put a 9mm into your cranium. The hw is also useless and a waste of your time.
The most unhelpful professor in this school. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. You'll get around 25-30 homework assignments per week. Prof. quickly presents low effort slides not explaining or teaching material and relies on LAs to go around helping(super useless.)Most people a few months into her class give up and realize they learn much better on their own
Awful in every way imaginable, the amount of homework is so incredibly unnecessary, the test reviews are trash and the lectures are worthless because the professor only ends up teaching for maybe 10 or 15 minutes of class anyways, then expects us to work multiple problems on the board. Super sucky on all levels, would never take this class again!
a joke of a class, tests aren't related to homework or reviews, take this class and ur destined to fail
This teacher is the definition of a straight b word. I would rather listen to a Christmas song all year round rather then sitting in another one of her lectures.
Goes extremely fast when teaching lectures, and doesn't go over necessary material. The material on the test is way harder than what was taught and given for homework. 12+ homeworks a week, this class takes up all of your free time.
I needed help with something on my homework assignment and I was told that my question involved material that was discussed in class a long time ago and that I would have to refer to my notes. I understand what she is saying, but my question was a question based on the platform, regarding my answer. Do NOT TAKE THIS CLASSSSSS
Probably the worst professor I have ever had. She does not care about her students passing. The last two exams we have taken were both an average of a D and she does not care. She assigns so much homework (up to 12 assignments per week) and basically assumes all you are taking is chemistry and not any other class.
Class test averages are awful, reflects on how bad of a professor this lady is, honestly a joke how much homework is given per week while the tests are hardly correlated to the homework. i do not know one person in the 300 person class that has anything above a really low c, even chem majors call this class a trainwreck
i have gone insane at this point...the past two test averages were not close to passing and the professor does not care, does not change the way she teaches, just gives the bare minimum. Homework is frustrating, tests are impossible. She thinks you are only taking her class with the 20 something assignments per week on top of post class questions
Pedrechs a horrible professor and a horrible introduction for freshman at tech. The past 2 exams have been horrible and do not relate to the homework that is given. Hw takes hours to do every week bc of # hw and how long each hw is. !!DONT PROCRASTINATE!! Im a chem engineering major and even this class makes me tear up !!GO TO SI IN ORDER TO PASS!!
I'm not going to lie, she is a fast paced teacher. If you got through highschool by being coddled and having second chances, then you're gonna fail. However, even though she teaches at a level equal to the hardest AP classes, she's a very responsive teacher. Every question I asked during the lectures, she answered while avoiding next level subjects
Dr. Pedrech is probably one of the best gen chem professors here at Tech. If you go to her office hours and ask for help she will go out of her way to make sure you understand. She also responds to her emails well. She can be fast at times but as long as you go to her office hours and ask for help then you should be perfectly fine.
Her tests were impossible to pass. She's very rude and only cares about herself.
Professor Pedrech is a decent professor who takes time to explain confusing concepts in class. Attendance is not mandatory, but you can hurt yourself if you miss too many lectures. There is quite a bit of homework assigned, but the majority of it is easy to finish and only takes some time management.
terrible, self centered teacher, tests are near to impossible to pass.
Dont take this class, and if you do, prepare to fail. The lack of caring and effort shows in the lectures. bad teacher -1/1000000
actually the worst
I wouldn't say this professor is bad as some of these reviews say she is. I had only seen Pedrech once in labs but she did respond to all my emails in a timely manner. The labs are ran by TAs and most of them have strong accents to which it's hard to understand them but following the lab manual is pretty easy. One of the TAs I had was rude though.
Literally never met her but her TAs were amazing. Very fun labs, got right to the point and let us do our thing, and helped us when it was needed. 4 simple assignments per lab and only 1 test at the very end of the class. Solid lab, great TAs!
During the lab portion of chemistry it is not that hard you just have to know what you are doing. The TAs are very helpful and will answer every question you have. One of the TAs I had was kind of rude but he was hardly there but the other TA was very nice.
In the lab portion of chemistry it is not hard you just have to know what you are doing. The TAs will help you and answer any question you have. One of my TAs were kind of rude but he was hardly there but the other TA was very nice.
Dr. Pedrech is a very good professor. She gives out a lot of extra tools that will help you like past exams and worksheets to help you. If you go to her office hours she is very eager to help you out. She also responds to emails very fast and is very helpful.
Screaming crying and throwing up, want to die, this is one of the worst professors at tech, dont take this class if you want to keep your sanity
A absolutely worthless class, the professor is also incredibly rude to students, rarely answers email and gives everyone an attitude who ask for help.
This class is completely impossible to achieve a good grade in. Be prepared for 20+ assignments a week with no help learning the material from the lectures.
This teacher does not prepare material at all for her lectures, if you want to pass consider learning it all on your own or attend SI sessions.
Honestly, I don't think she was a bad professor. There's definitely lots of homework, but I think it's doable and it's only 12.5% of your overall grade. The tests are 75% of our grade, so I'd keep that in mind if you aren't a test person. The lectures aren't bad, and the slides are always available. The tests aren't bad if you study a little bit.
Gen Chem is a weedout course for most STEM students so it is hard no matter the prof. Pedrech is organized and helpful compared to other chem profs. Lots of homework and several difficult tests. If you put in the work the class is doable.
I would not suggest having this professor when first learning Chemistry. I had such a difficult time in this class and she made it impossible to pass. The worst part was she does not care if her students pass or not. She assigns so much homework and the tests are literally impossible. She acts like its the only class you are in. Its a trainwreck.
The tests are very difficult, you need to study hard and pay attention in class. She gives access to practice tests and study materials as well as access to previous tests. If you use the resources you are more likely to pass. Passing for her class is 52 with a D, so there's a bit of wiggle room. Overall she's a good teacher if you want to learn.
Chem is overall just a very hard course if it doesn't really click with you. The exams are very difficult (especially exam 2) and are worth 75%. You'll be assigned a ton of homework, so at the end of the semester you've completed like 130 HW assignments. I'd say Dr. Pedrech knows chem too well to be able to simplify down to people who struggle.
ATTEND EVERY LECTURE!
Dr. Pedrech was an effective lecturer and does her best to ensure understanding in class. The course is very fast-paced and lots of content, as in any chemistry course. She does her best to explain all concepts during the lecture and is accessible during office hours for additional help.
An excessive amount of homework, meaning good time management is needed. Also the tests were nothing like the reviews.
I had to teach myself half the time, gave up going to the lectures halfway through the course since I didn't learn while she was teaching.
Disrespectful, racist, homophobic professor. Lectures include various offensive comments towards students in the course. Picks favorites and lets them cheat on tests while kicking other students out. I would not take a course from her ever again.
I almost failed this class because there was so much homework. I could barely finish them all because they took so long to do. She would open the homework days before exams so I struggled to do the homework while studying at the same time. I think going to her lectures is worth it though because I learned a lot in her class whenever I would go.
Go to SI sessions and practice hard. Get ready for hell.
The number of homework assignments given was HORRENDOUS. The lectures were okay, I liked how she would stop sometimes and help students around the room. I thought that was nice of her. However, if you missed a day then you have a lot of catching up to do.
Fast paced lectures. She doesn't take attendance but if you don't go to class, you're probably going to fail. I wouldn't take her if you struggle with chemistry to begin with. If you're a fast learner like me and don't like to spend a ton of time on one concept, she's great. I never had to deal with her directly so I never had a probem.
Literally do everything in your power not to take this woman. She is so rude and not helpful at all she literally tells her students they are dumb when they mess up. When you see her you know your day will be ruined. Half of the time her answers are wrong too. She just sucks I have never heard anything good about her.
Tough professor and very condescending told the class that the average score on the test on exams is 61%. She goes too fast on lectures, so if you miss one day, you are left behind. You can't use formula sheets on exams, making it challenging to pass. if you want to pass, make sure to dedicate your time to that class only.
She is not a good professor at all and she is just plain out rude. She does not care if you are struggling and she will not help you at all. Most people fail her tests because she is such a bad teacher and won't help. She's really just not a nice or good person and I don't recommend taking her.
She came into our lab and accused us all of not actually doing it because we were done within an hour and a half. Pretty rude to us after that and the finals for these lab courses are always really stupid. LOTS of homework for each lab so be sure to be on top of it.
Lab was pretty easy, the website sucked but can't really blame her for that.
Honestly didn't even see this professor once, only saw my TA but he was super nice. Labs are mandatory and you can't miss one or it will effect your grade majorly. Overall pretty easy, just didn't learn a whole lot. We would work as a class most times and just all share answers lol
Barely saw her, mostly interacted with TA(he was great). Very rigid and merciless as far as missing. Missed a couple labs due to unforseen circumstances and barely passed because we are not allowed to submit assignments for that lab either that I would have happily done. Just a dismissive and rude lady, not a big deal but beware.
Her teaching style does not tend to align with the learning style of the average student. She reads directly from the PowerPoint and relies on her teaching and learning assistants to grant students an adequate understanding of the material. If you attempt to get some one-on-one time with her through her office hours, she is extremely condescending.
I wouldn't recommend taking her for lecture, but for lab she was ok. I only saw her once on the first day, the class is taught entirely by TA's who were good. Easy A but don't miss any labs cause its very hard to make them up without a good reason. Kind of hard to rate her since she doesn't really teach the lab.
chem 1307 just sucks, bottom line. its a stem weed out class, but dr pedrech is probably one of the better options. tests are difficult, but multiple choice. insane amount of hw, no extra credit opportunities or curves, but no pop quizzes or anything unexpected thrown at u. be ready to put in a bunch of effort and insane studying, and u will pass.
Dr. Pedrech is an amazing instructor. Class isn't mandatory but you should diffidently go. The course is homework heavy but she has office hours and LAs if you need help. Shes great and really supportive if you get to know her. :)
Okay professor, the class moves relatively fast but it's not bad. You will have to memorize stuff for tests, but it's not too terrible, you're working with the concepts enough. Homework isn't as bad as people say, just start it on time. Only negative is test reviews aren't super helpful, but you do get extra credit if you complete them.
Her teaching style does not tend to align with the learning style of the average student. She reads directly from the PowerPoint and relies on her teaching and learning assistants. very condescending
She does not know how to teach only reads powerpoints, plus she goes through the content really fast
She's so tough on grading. Her lectures are hard to understand. Would NOT recommend her. Try to not take her. Find an alternate prof.
The actual professor is never there its usually a TA that runs the class. If you show up to all the classes and participate in the labs you will pass very easy
Dr. Pedrech is a decent professor. Lectures tend to be confusing. You'll definitely have to spend time outside of class learning material. For lab, I never saw her once but, with a good group I got an A. I am taking her 1308 class again only because the structure is fine. She offers lots of study material and there isn't a lot of homework.
Dr. Pedrech, a poor chemistry professor, relies solely on PowerPoints, struggles to simplify content, and assigns excessive unrelated homework. She EXPECTS fast comprehension in brief lectures and offers limited, unwelcoming office hours for her large class. Choosing another professor is best, if you want to maintain a good GPA!
Dr. Pedrech is always absent from her 1107 lab. Furthermore, she is unresponsive to emails when inquiring about a question. The class relies solely on TAs who lack clarity. Avoid her lectures and classes if possible.
Very organized professor. I'm taking 1308 this semester and intentionally chose one of her sections. I thought she was an effective teacher in 1307.
She never shows up to the lab except to dress code people, and you can never get help if you have questions from either her or the TAs, & lots of homework and reports outside of the lab.
I really liked Dr. Pedrech despite her bad ratings. She gives good extra credit and provides a lot of study tools. If you apply yourself and attend lectures, you will make an A. She's very dry, I personally think she is hilarious, and will give it to you straight up. She makes the content easily digestible.10/10 would take again.
I am not sure why most are expecting her to show up to labs when she is just the lab coordinator. Many other labs, like Biology, have one lab coordinator who makes the assignments and TA's who teach the section. Homework is easy, online, and minimal. Easy A, easy lab compared to Biology.
CHEM1307 is hard regardless of the professor. However, Dr. Pedrech made it way easier for us. She gives a lot of resources. She is also very organized. You can tell she has a lot of teaching experience. She is a good teacher. You have to study a lot for each test, but it is manageable.
Very good professor. Explains clearly during lecture, so pay attention there so you don't have to do extra work by yourself. Just do the extra credit practice for the test one day before the test and easy A. Tests are much easier than the homework assignments so don't worry.
I know she is not really liked, but I think she is pretty good at her job. If you do your homework on time and go to class you should be fine. For exams, I recommend practicing from the previous exams and going to class (chemistry is hard to learn on your own). Don't be scared of going to her office hours she is much less intimidating one-on-one.
Dr. Pedrech's chemistry course was comprised of confusing lectures, unrelated homework, and pointless test reviews that prepared you for nothing. From my experience, no amount of preparation would ever amount to what was actually on the test, which was a total curveball. I recommend avoiding this professor and taking an alternative section.
If you have a option to take someone else go ahead, If there is no other option left I would suggest to wait another semester to pick a better professor.
The worst, and doesn't care for her students let alone listening to them at all.
I never really saw Professor Pedrech. However, when I needed help with grades, she was very quick to respond and was very helpful. I had a TA in my lab and who was very thorough with explanations and directions. The work was never a lot, just a pre-lab, post-lab and lab report. The final was online and pretty easy. Overall, solid prof.
Overall, Pedrech was an excellent professor. Her lectures were very clear to understand and retain for exams. Extra credit opportunities were provided for the three exams and the final. I would recommend taking advantage of this opportunity. You will do great in this class if you have a good work ethic and truly understand the material.
Chemistry is hard, but if you want to do well in this class and have work ethic, then I would take Dr. Predrech. She gets a bad rep sometimes because of the lab sections, but in the lecture, I thought she was great. The practice tests she provides are great study material. If you actually use the resources and care, you should be just fine.
She was absolutely great! I took Chem 1308 in the summer. She was extremely personable, walking around to truly teach students. I loved the way this course was structured. I did take this after a great professor in both 1301 and 1307. Those were both beneficial, and this just built on them. I definitely recommend Dr. Pedrech.
She's a Cee U Next Tuesday for sure. Won't give extensions regardless of your situation. Never teaches the class only the TA's. Speaks to students rudely and condescending. Recommend taking the courses with someone else.
Worst professor here at texas tech, take someone else if you can I don't know how someone like this is allowed to be professor but sadly they hired her, avoid her at all cost, avoid, avoid, avoid. SAVE YOURSELF. Sadly she is the only professor for 1107 lab but TA's are the best and for lab she isn't there any ways so thats a relief. BUT AVOID HER!!
Struggled with this professor, she cares more about teaching her students a lesson (discipline wise) then actually helping us succeed in this course. She gives extensive homework assignments that do not relate to the test. She is good with teaching lectures but very fast paced.
Hard but not impossible. Exams are TOUGH, but Pedrech does give plenty of review material which is why she makes them difficult. Homework is not bad at all but you seriously have to study 20 hours each midterm.
No kizzy Diddy
The tests make this class impossible. Very unfair. First class I've ever failed in my life.
The amount of effort I put in studying really reflected on my exam grades. Exam 1 is the easiest, so take full advantage of getting a high grade cuz it only gets harder. She's one of those ppl that you look back on and realize that she was just trying to prepare you for what's to come. You can't cheat your way out of this one future students!
She is kind of rude and will not give any grace under any circumstance. The course has a lot of assignments. If even one of them is not completed on time and you don't have a medical reason; there is no grace in any ways at all. i got late answers to my emails from her. does not give feedback even when asked for.
Lots of lectures and tests are weighted heavy. If you go to class and actively participate in the practice problems in class and go to SI sessions you will be fine. She does explain concepts well, just there is a lot of them. If you do the homework and extra credit problems for practice you will be fine!
Dr. Pedrech's class can be challenging, but she provides good resources. Focus on the lectures and use tools like Unstuck ai for extra prep. With effort, you can succeed in this course.
(note that I wasnt taught by her but instead her TAs)(CHEM 1307 LAB) This was the easiest class on my semester. Prelabs, postlabs, and lab reports are so easy and quick to do. Labs themselves are simplified and take an hour to do. The TAs are very helpful and nice.
So this course is not taught by Dr. Pedrech, she will come in and check on experiments sometimes, but mostly you are just with a TA. I had a great TA and a great lab group, so that made the class much more enjoyable. If you are careful with the experiments, sometimes you can finish in less than an hour.
Pedrech's CHEM 1307 was the most difficult class ever. I have always been a straight-A student. I got 75% in this class after studying for week-long benders where I'd sit down from 11 AM to 8 PM and still barely managed to pass. Stay on top of due dates, there are post-class questions after every class/weekly homework that takes 8 hours to finish.
Wasn't a great professor. She relied heavily on PowerPoint and I honestly learned more from the homework than her actual class. She gives good resources like reviews and previous exams. The exams are tough but that's what you should expect from this class. Overall, passable class and professor, just do all of the homework and attend the lectures.
Nice teacher, but doesn't repeat given knowledge, get ready to memorize everything.
She was awful. This was the only class I dropped out of because it was so test dependent. The tests are nothing like the homework and are worded in the most difficult way possible. Talking to her is like talking to your number one enemy. She just seems miserable all the time. She never gives in class reviews or tips. She only replies on her slides.
I refuse to ever sit in a class where Pedrech is the professor from now on. She lectures quickly and does a poor job explaining things. She gives you no reference notes or slides to go back and look at or study. If you don't get the notes written in time, then you might as well not take notes. Extremely test heavy
The labs overseen by Pedrech are so easy. Even if its mostly overseen by TA's, the labs are extremely easy and aren't much of a time sink, just do the work and put the class in the back of your mind for a week. Dr. Pedrech herself is also quite helpful and mindful of students and is willing to be lenient and considerate of their situations.
Pedrech has an easy and clear teaching style. She goes through slides in class and sometimes does review classes before exam. Chemistry is a hard class and you have to put in a little bit of effort to understand the material. If you attend lectures and do the homeworks, as well as the practice exams she provides, you will be fine in the class
Took for Chem 1/2, it sucked. Lectures barely help, will not give extensions if you miss an assignment. 4 tests basically depend on your grade. Not much extra credit. DON'T MISS ANY HW OTHERWISE YOU'RE DOOMED. Just study slides, and take practice tests (1107 and 1108 are all math, so as long as you practice that on practice tests, you'll be fine).
I've heard the talk about how she teaches, but for Gen Chem 1 Lab, it was real easy. If I could rate TA's I would, as they were very helpful people and made the lab's fun actually. Throughout the whole semester though I think I only saw Professor Pedrech once, and the one time I did she was hootin and hollerin over a student showing up late.
i do not recommend taking this class. Homework and post-class questions are not even close to the actual text.
She's so mean and not willing to cooperate with you on anything avoid her.
absolute B. not accommodating at all, she doesnt care about you and wont give you any grace pls avoid her
Wow. Dr. Pedrech would randomly stop into labs just to criticize students. She offered no leeway whatsoever, so I felt like she never wanted to see her students succeed. The least understanding professor I have ever had so just be mindful.
Although she rarely appeared in the lab room, when she did, she offered nothing of value. The class is pretty easy and the TA I had was great, just not Professor Pedrech herself.
Never showed up until the last lab. Screamed at everyone. Changed grades for the whole class on May 5th at 7:49 pm and gave lots of 0's. She was not willing to help. Very rude. Very mean. Horrible attitude. Would never take anything under her again. She was also very mean to our TA who was the sweetest human and was very helpful.
This class made my freshman year a nightmare. Her lectures were overwhelming, assigned 10 homework assignments at once, and the exams made ZERO sense. The only thing that kept me from truly failing was attending SI sessions as those helped me somewhat. Not to mention she has a really snobby tone while speaking. Very unapproachable.
she mean bro like h
I've never had a teacher worse than her, its like if someone who hated everything positive decided to start teaching. Uncaring, absent from all labs, mean, hard to reach outside of class, and really not respected in both her labs and lecture. Avoid at all costs and if for some reason you dont, good luck. She has a 2.2/5 for a reason.
So difficult to follow along had no idea what was going on half the time
Lectures are fine, I study material she gives for hours, go into exams feeling like ik everything, just to be tested a tiny bit outside of what I studied & fail. Class avg for exams are 50 & she states in lecture that “this is typical”. Doesn't answer emails & is not approachable. Does not curve where other profs do. Never taking her class again.
Due to the guidelines, I can't say anything too crazy, but oh my god, this professor. Please listen to the 70-something Awful's and by any means necessary, do not take her class. The number of times I had to study and understand this on my own is genuinely crazy. Her lectures bro, one and done. Dedicate some time for SI Sessions you'll need it.
Went to tech during 2024-25, and she was actually the worst professor I could have imagined. One time, she came into our lab and just criticized everyone in there. Chem is a hard class in general, but she made it so much worse. My professor at my current university is like Tom Brady compared to her Geno Smith.
She is just downright mean. She walks into labs and criticizes everyone there. The TA's are terrified of her. She treats everyone around her poorly. She does not care about the success of her students and will never round a grade up. If you can avoid this class, do it.
Very hard class, she will not accept late work and will just give you a zero. The tests are extremely hard, and it feels like everything you study is not on the test. The class average for each test is a 50, and this is just supposed to be the standard, I guess. would not recommend there are definitely easier professors to take. Save yourself.
