Moved through the material very quickly. Exam questions focused on a lot of detail and some were only on topics we spent less than 10 minutes on. Found I had to teach myself much of her material.
Honestly, another great biochem prof. I may be a bit biased towards her becuse her exam was SO much more straight forward than Dr. McPhalen's, actually convered the material in class. Charming and funny and very good overall.
Very straight forward. Tells you what you should know. "I have asked this question in the past... I want this answer..." Very cheerful and helpful. Clearly explains material to the extent we need to know and is available if we have further inter
She was a good professor. The only fault I have with her is that the exam questions often pertained to amiguous notes from the lecture.
dun like her at all...fast-paced lectures...1st exam is easy, but when the average is high, 2nd exam is unaproachable...
i dun know y???...the midterm is very similar or even the same as practice questions...often have online discussions in WebCT & reply the correct answer; however, the outcome in the real midterm is different...is she a tough marker/strongly recommended specific answers in the exam???...unbelievable!
Her midterm was fair, since it did cover what she taught in class, but she went through her lectures a bit too quickly.
Very direct about what is tested and what isn't. However, what is tested is basically the hardest possible question that can be asked on the topic. That being said, tests are difficult and I found to be too long for alloted time. As well, the answers she expects are very specific!
She ain't EZ, but you know the material after shes done with you. Some of her sample questions are exactly the same as whats on the test, so yed better do them. Overall, I give her a (7.3/10). Rockin' the Irish pride!
She is a very thorough prof. She definately likes to make sure you know your stuff, and for the final, you'll definately have to! She doesn't write enough notes on the overhead, and expects you to catch important details to write down yourself.
Dr. Wright is a great prof. She is very humourous and helpful and seems to be genuinely interested in her students' wellbeing. The only concern is that she writes very few notes, but nevertheless she is excellent at explaining concepts and is cheerful and pleasant.
Very good prof, did a great job of teaching the class. Went a little quick sometimes but was always willing to slow down and repeat herself or answer questions. Overall great class.
I really liked this professor. She was funny and seemed very willing to help students. She does not really write any notes, which was a new experience for me, but it's pretty obvious what she expects you to write down.
She is really concerned about the students. Good prof, somewhat impatient with noise but only b/c she wants everyone to do well. Willing to sit down and explain everything - even the stuff that you should already know. Really nice in person. Fair exams.
I thought Dr. Wright was an amazing prof! Her explanations are very clear and she will stop to answer questions when needed. She made biochemistry very interesting and because of her and Dr. Ellison, I am now majoring in it :) If you want to do really well in this class, do all the learning objectives. Everyone I know who did this, got an A.
She's a really good prof. Although I wish she would write more stuff down, she really emphasizes the important stuff and pretty much follows the learning objectives exactly. If you do need to ask questions though, she as as accomodating and welcoming of questions as possible. She really wants her students to do well, and she's got a cute smile.
Extremely good lecturer- thoughtful approach to introducing concepts that fits them within the larger context of bio and chem. Pace is perfect- emphasis is perfect- good attitude too. WAY better than Simala-Grant, who is clearly not nearly as intelligent as Wright. Only complaint is she let Simala-Grant teach so much of this important course.
She is a wonderful professor! She explains things so clearly and relates them to life, afterward saying 'now isn't that cool?', which shows her obvious love of the subject. She is brilliant and I would highly recommend her to anyone!
Amazing prof. So incredibly kind and willing to help. Probably one of my favorite profs of all time. Take the course with her if you can. She's a lot of fun!
Dr. Wright is a crazy good professor. She talks slow and stops at important points for you to write things down and she's more than willing to go out of her way to make sure you understand.
I didn't like how it was a mad scramble to write down what she said, she should have the points and text in the notes- lead to a frustrating lack of organization. she said "learning objective" too often to try to get us to pay attention. telling us "u don't have to know this but u can if you want" (well, thx for ur permission) is demeaning
Awesome prof...but if you want to well be prepared to right. This helped me learn because I paraphrased what she said or rather "put it in my own words" She obviously enjoys the subject and it makes it so much easier to enjoy it as well.
She is a good teacher, rushes some concepts, but still good.
Dr. Wright is a very good professor. I liked to attend her class, because she was always interested in Biochemistry, and made metabolism fun :) Highly recommended!
Genuinely cares about her students learning the material, and does her best to engage the class with her style of teaching by asking relevant questions to make sure we're following the lectures. Makes a lot of material available on WebCT just to make sure that we are indeed learning. One could not ask for a better instructor for this class.
She's a good enough lecturer but her notes are terrible because she makes you write so much in class you can't keep up with the lecture and in the end what you've written down doesn't help much anyways. In the end, I just didn't write her notes and studied with the objectives and the internet.
Feels more like high school than university. This class was poorly organized, the "learning objectives" weren't at all useful (whereas in 200, they are all you need), and notes are barren. In a class like this, it's hard enough to remember all the material, but she manages to make even finding the material difficult.

Wonderful professor. Knows what is tested and brings your attention to stuff that has hung up other students years prior. Talks and writes fast, but it's not impossible to keep up if you are a competent person. She explains things well and answers questions thoroughly.
She is good, but what she says "you need to know this...and that..." is almost never on the exam
Aw she's so cute, I LOVE her!! BEST bioch prof ever. So knowledgable and helpful, also extremely approachable! She is super nice and such a good teacher, explaining everything fully and from different angles. Basically tells you what will be on the exam. Tells us interesting facts to keep class interesting. Her speed is slightly wonky sometimes tho
love love lover her. yeah my only complaint is sometimes she goes a little too fast while sometimes she slows things down a bit too much, however she is a fantastic prof. gives lots of example questions in class which hints on what you will need to know on midterm. very very good at explaining concepts clearly!
Best prof ever! Wished she continue teaching the remainder of the course though.
Pretty good lectures, bad exams. Very inflexible answer keys. Often more a test of "guess exactly what the professor is thinking" than your knowledge of the concepts. Basically you need to write EVERYTHING related to a question to get full marks. Don't just answer what the question is asking. Answers questions on WebCT and by email promptly.
yeah, alot of stuff she says you need to know isnt on the exam...but she doesnt write the exam so i guess whatever its not a ridiculous amount of stuff to learn. shes really good at explaining concepts and makes things crystal clear. almost without studying i could answer the learning objectives in a snap, thats how great a teacher she is!
Excellent professor. Even compared to her peers.
I personally liked her more than Parrish. She talks quite fast so keep up with her but she does repeat the important ideas so you get it. Doesn't post ne of her lecturing online except for the ppt slides so attending class is mandatory. Midterm was easy. Final wasn't bad either.
Okay lectures. Ridiculous midterm w/ incomprehensible key. Deducts points because she feels like it.
Great Professor Had her for the entire semester vs previously used to do split classes with another prof. Made class fun. iClicker, practice questions galore, online game, outside study sessions, very open door, online discussion board used ALOT. Answered every question I ever had promptly and in a way that was clear and consise. Not a time waster.
Seems like a nice lady & really knows her stuff. However, the class needs some work - there are barely any practice questions & learning objectives are not clear/helpful. Very hard exams! key is very specific with no room for part marks
Great teacher, very nice and helpful
Amazing
SHE IS THE MOST AMAZING PROF! Really concise, open and helpful. She has the best analogies for the hardest concepts. STUDY for the exams and you'll do relatively well since the class is not curved.
Love her-- she actually teaches and seems to enjoy doing it. She breaks down the concepts really well and emphasizes key points which is really helpful. The exams I feel are fair, if you go to class, study and understand the concepts, you should do fine.
An excellent teacher. approachable, friendly, and genuinely concerned with our learning, passionate. Keeps a positive attitude. Makes sure you understand the material and explains in a clear, concise manner.
Exams are harder. Harder than Falman's. I always don't have enough time to look over my exam!
This was a great class. Dr. Wright is crystal clear when explaining concepts and there are never surprises on exams. Good class, fair exams, not too demanding.
She was crystal clear and extremely helpful. I wish she had taught the whole course, tho. This course is not curved! With that said, be aware of the final because it is 55% of the whole grade and it is harder than the midterms. For my final exam, it was heavily on the stuff after the 2nd midterm.
Dr. Wright is a delightful lecturer. She seems very friendly and engaging. Exams were straightforward.
She is such a wonderful professor. She explains things so clearly & is always willing to help you. This class requires a TON of memorization though so make sure you keep up with it and don't try to start learning it a week or 2 before the exams. Her exams are very fair and not meant to trick you at all. Just need to know your pathways very well!
Do everything she says and yours is the kingdom of heaven. Just attend class. She is so clear and the best at explaining concepts. If you take one course in university take one from her :D
She obviously is very knoledgable in biochem but a difficult prof. I took a 300 level course with her and it was VERY difficult. Not very helpful, instead of helping will say "you should have known that from 200". Provides take-home quizes that you can "discuss with friends" but can't ask her for help, or tutors, or post on eclass. Can be emotional
great Prof, but the slides she provides NEED to be added to for you to understand the course. Very hard course, she does her best and makes it easier. Any questions you have can be answered by her or the textbook- STUDY EARLY FOR THE EXAMS
Awesome prof. Take her if this is the only Biochem course you'll ever take! Very nice, polite, and a wonderful person. Very helpful outside class, and she explains it so well that you don't really need to see her outside class or even use the textbook. Exams are easy if you study well and she kinda hints you on concepts that will be tested.
Amazing! Takes the time to make sure you understand concepts, makes the course interesting, explains very difficult concepts slowly and clearly. Exam questions do not have a lot of lead-in (very vague, often) and can be tricky, but you will be rewarded for knowing your stuff. Reading over notes after class is recommended. Love you, Adrienne!
Really great prof. Her exams were fair and she explained concepts clearly. During her lectures she would connect concepts introduced in previous classes. I found this really useful, it helped me to connect metabolism concepts and get a sense of the bigger picture.
Relatively decent prof. My biggest problem with her was not posting completed notes online after class, which I don't see as an acceptable practice. Additionally, the course has really nothing to do with learning the material, only memorizing certain aspects and reading carefully. Good prof but avoid the course in general if it's an option.
Pretty much spoonfeeds you the course. You're working hard to beat the curve, but the course itself is taught very well by her, considering how many details are involved. Great prof. Would gladly take another course with her.
Awesome Prof, the best I've had during my 2 years of undergrad life. Her lectures are the best, and her explanations are crystal clear. Make sure you attend classes and understand concepts then and there. I like how she uses the iCLicker in class. Her exams are pretty straightforward, but some questions could be tricky. HAve fun with Biochem =)
BEST prof I've had so far. Crystal clear with explanations and makes sure you really understand concepts. Very interactive. Exams could be tricky and the averages are usually high. But she made this course really interesting for me.
Dr. Wright is an amazing prof who really wants to to understand the concepts to be able to think independently. I truly enjoyed her class.
Dr.Wright is an excellent prof. Explains clearly. Makes sure we UNDERSTAND concepts, and not memorize. Lots of practice questions. Give real life application examples. Gives you list of objectives. Fair exams. She's one of the best profs I had. Also very cute. :)
She's a great prof, and a great teacher. She really wants you to understand the course and I did. Definitely hated how high the averages were. And if she's in your room when you write the exams she is annoying. She freaked me out by talking while we had to be silent before we could start writing. She needs to just be quiet, and say start the exam.
She is amazing. Made this boring course interesting. She writes the exams, and she gives hints in class. No need for the textbook.
Feigns a caring personality in class but completely pretentious and uncaring when you visit. I asked her about a question, she said she would take off marks elsewhere to balance the exam score. What kind of professor does this? Tests are hard, and the answer key is so specific, there is no leniency. You have to write what Adrienne almighty thinks.
Good course and concepts but terrible prof. In lecture she includes lots of trivial information mixed in with the main concepts, making it hard to know what to study and what to ignore. Quiz and midterms are marked unfairly and very specifically. Even if you know all the information, if you do not put down what Adrienne Wright wants you will get 0.
She was good for 200, but 310 is complicated, and she could really improve her notes to help us. Do not take this course unless you absolutely have to. It is probably the most difficult course I have taken. Answer Key is so specific, you need to read her mind just to get a mark. If the answer doesn't match the key's wording, you get no marks.
She is somewhat intimidating to approach. Hard to capture my attention, and averages were extremely high, almost impossible to get an A. I would say avoid.
I really don't understand why people say this course is difficult. It's not that bad if you take notes in class and supplement them w/ the textbook. Dr. Wright explained concepts clearly and I thought exams and quizzes were very fair for a 300 level course. If you didn't know the material well, then you don't do well in the course. Simple as that.
Her exams/quizes are hard, even her practice ones. Answer key can be very specific. She talks too fast sometimes so I had to record her lectures sometimes.
She goes too fast, which led me to reading the textbook. Tests are hard.
Outstanding prof and person. Her lectures are top-notch if you take good notes. You definitely have to go back through them multiple times because there is a lot of material, but she explained concepts clearly and thoroughly. Plus, totally willing to help, answer questions, and invite you to her office for extra help. One of my best profs!
Amazing Proff. Yes the class is hard and yes she talks fast but that is because she has so much material to get through. Just go over her notes over and over. Make yourself all kinds of charts to LINK LECTURES. I would even suggest recording her lectures to get all the information. She made Biochem enjoyable :)
Wright is amazing at explaining concepts and gives really helpful tips for exams. She is super approachable and great at answering questions. I enjoyed going to class. The exams are made purposely tricky to spread out the marks because it's a pretty competitive class. Study the notes really well and ask questions if you have them!
She is a fantastic prof- explains concepts clearly, and is more than willing to help students understand difficult concepts. That said, this is a difficult course with a TON of information and I would not recommend taking it unless you have to. And of course her answer keys are specific- it is biochem, what did you expect?
The class itself is quite challenging due to the amount of material, but Dr. Wright explains all the concepts clearly and reiterates the important points many times. Her exams were a bit difficult as they're not straight memorization questions, but if you do her practice questions, quizzes and pay attention in class, the class isn't too bad.
Great prof! The class is hard with alot to remember and try connect but she explains things clearly and constantly reiterates important concepts bringing back old material. Tests are challenging and not pure memorizing you must think. Stay on top of things and attend class for her notes and its not that bad.
Not a fan of her lecture style. Repeats things (orally) 6+ times in a single lecture: doesn't just spoonfeed material, shoves it down your throat. Eclass questions focus on trivial details; pace of class is wonky; exams test reading comp. rather than concepts. The "heavily tested" concepts she told us about weren't on exam. Great course, OK prof.
Exam/quiz questions seem straight-forward, but if you don't somehow guess EXACTLY what details she is looking for, you wont do well. I answered countless questions "correctly" (her words) but lost so many marks for not including details that are NOT asked for, but somehow required. She gets SO defensive when questioned about this. Horrible.
i had fahlman for the first half of this course and am so glad wright switched in to be our prof for the second half. she taught us more in 2 pre-midterm review lectures than he had for the first half of the sem. she's incredible at explaining things, and goes out of her way to explain if you don't understand. probably my best prof this year.
May every god from every religion bless Doctor Adrienne Wright. She was like an angel sent from heaven to save me from a potential biochemistry apocalyptic demise (One that Dr. Fahlman created). Her explanations were so CLEAR that I managed to finish with an A+. She is absolutely deserving as the head of the department.
I loved her as my biochemistry prof. She taught the second half of my class and compared to Richard Fahlman she is a rock star. She would give a lot of example questions and tried to her best to make sure you got the info.
Teaches you everything but her exams are too tricky in that they don't test how well you understand the material rather how well you understand the question. Gives out the MOST TRICK QUESTIONS OF ANY PROF, yet denies it. Comes off as pretty rude at times.
One of the best profs I've ever had. I have zero interest in Biochem but she made it super interesting and entertaining. She is very clear and works hard to make sure everyone understands and asks tons of questions during class to keep you thinking about the material. I didn't open the textbook and did alright.
Yes, she can be funny and keep repeating "Is this clear" a lot. But no, her very style of lecturing/notes was unclear. Metabolism/pathways involve a lot of info and concept connection while it was apparent she cannot or is unwilling to establish such clarity (without doing too much work herself). Attitude can differ when not in front of class.
One of my favourite profs to date. She is extremely patient and helpful in lab, and is always willing to answer any questions. Plus her accent is awesome! Took the course in Spring, so it was very fast-paced. Definitely my favourite course of my entire degree. Ask lots of questions, keep track of your samples and don't let your column run dry!
Very helpful Great Professor!
She clearly knows her stuff, but is a VERY specific marker. Many questions on exams are based on your ability to apply knowledge to situations not discussed in class- you have to know your material inside-out. When answering questions on exams you are expected to write out basically everything you know about that topic and hope thats what she wants
Although Dr. Wright is a great lecturer, I found her test to be ambiguous. She expects you to guess what she wants the answer to be. Metabolism is always great learning and highly applicable making learning it interesting though. Anticipation is key.
This is very difficult course, and the material builds up throughout the term. Dr. Wright is a good lecturer but talks quite fast. The exams and quizzes are tough and test whether you can apply your knowledge. She is looking for a specific conceptpathwayprinciple in her answers and you must have that answer to get any marks. MT,Final avg. 56,63
Dr. Wright really made me appreciate how important and interesting biochemistry really is. This is a great class to take if you just aren't getting chemistry - seeing it in action can really make it easier to comprehend. That said, biochem 200 is a hard class. Not impossible, but you'll have to work very hard for an A.
She is a great professor, go to class and you will do fine. She is helpful and has great explanations. Tests are tricky so read them carefully. Class is a harder one but she makes it interesting and she truly cares about her students learning. Recommend her if you need to take biochem.
Although I didn't do well in the course, it was purely my fault. (Study hard for the midterm as it's heavily weighted) Dr. Wright is an amazing professor who makes a challenging course clear to understand. Tells you everything you need to know. An amazing professor; many people stuck with the course just to be taught by her, myself included.
Go to every class my friend, Iclicker marks is for free as long as you click something. Don't screw midterm like me and got B+ Power point posted online is not enough for exam and it's incomplete, go to every class and take notes on your printed slides, it's better than doing on laptop because there's something you need to draw instead of typing.
Dr. Wright is an amazing lecturer, she gives you everything you need to do well and really emphasizes the trickier points that will be tested. Go to class and take notes, she talks quickly but ask questions if you have trouble and she will clarify. Great class!
Even though I did not do that great in the class, she was an amazing lecturer. I loved biochemistry because of her. She was crystal clear on what was expected but make sure you go to every single class. My only problem was that the exams test if you can be tricked, not how well you know the material so READ THE QUESTION!
Amazing prof. She's really helpful and encouraging when you need help, just make sure you have questions ready and she'll help you through them. The tests are HARD because they are standardized (Meaning all BIOCH 200 students take the same final, so regardless of your prof, you'll still be doing the same exam), so make sure you read Qs carefully!
Dr. Wright was an incredible lecturer. Super knowledgable and clear, however she did speak a bit too quickly during lectures and it felt like a mad race to write very pertinent information down. Tests were tough, particularly the final but if you're willing to put the time in, go see her for help (She's exceptional one on one), you'll do well.
Dr. Wright is a great prof. 310 is a really tedious course though, with a ton of information to not only know, but also to be able to connect. Her questions may seem open ended, but she wants a very specific answer. 5% Iclickers, 30% midterm, 40% final and 25% take home quizzes. If you need to take 310 make sure she is your prof, it'll help a lot.
Shes a great prof for biochem 200, I would recommend her. It is a touch class but she is a good prof to have for it.
Hard class but she was a wonderful prof! She was really good at explaining things and her notes were really good. I would definitely recommend as she made a dreaded class enjoyable
Dr. Wright teaches Biochem extremely well. She made a lot of hard concepts easy to understand and the class is very interactive. Gives Powerpoint notes and talks in class, so you better write down what she says. Class is mandatory unless you want to fail.
Dr. Wright is a very good prof and is obviously very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, her quizzes and tests are HARD. They are marked with insane difficulty. If you felt like a question was too easy, you did it wrong. Her answer key often contains paragraph answers that you must have ALL of for full marks. Good prof, very very tough course, beware.
I adore Dr. Wright. She is a genius instructor who cares immensely about her students and the material. She's passionate, well-spoken, and crystal clear. It's true that exams are a tiny bit tricky, but you come away with a really solid understanding of the underlying principles as well as the nitty-gritty details. She's a superstar!
Dr. Wright is an amazing prof for biochem, her explanations are always crystal clear and gets all the material to connect to each other. While it is true that the tests are difficult and weighted heavily, her practice material is excellent, so if you put in the work, you'll get a great mark. Her lectures are a tad dry but overall a good lecturer.
Dr. Wright is great. She does her best to explain concepts clearly. She goes in detail into what you need to know. Her notes are clear and orientated in a logical fashion. Her clicker questions are tricky, but really helps you in the exam if you've understood them. The exams are hard, but it's biochem. If you're taking this class for an A get out.
Great prof who is very approachable outside of the lecture setting. The practice material is alright in that helps point out any gaps in your fundamental knowledge of the material. However, almost none of the practice is structured anything like the questions that will be on the actual Midterm and Final. Be ready to study a great deal.
Dr. Wright is an amazing professor who made it easy to be engaged in class. 310 is one of the harder courses that I have taken, however the way she presented the info made it interesting to learn. Save yourself a lot of time to revise the material before exams as there are lots of little details to remember.
Dr. Wright is a great prof who genuinely wants her students to succeed. She's very approachable and helpful. Her class actually made me want to take more biochem classes with her but my program won't allow it :( GREAT PROF THO!
Dr. Wright demands a lot in this course. There is not a high emphasis on memorization rather making connections with the topics in the course. Dr. Wright also hints what will be on the midterm and final which does come up a lot so it in important to go to every lecture. This course is curved generously so it is not as bad as its reputation.
Dr. Wright makes an excellent job of teaching the material through building connections rather than memorization! She gives hints about what's on the midterm and final, and stresses the topics that students struggle most with. While the class is difficult she tries her hardest to help you be as prepared as you can be! Would definitely recommend her
Dr Wright is a good prof, but this course is much harder than bioch 200. She gives you a lot less hints about what will be on the midterm and final, and the exams are entirely written and she is quite nit-picky about what will give you marks and what won't. definitely a difficulty class, but that said, the curve will save you.
Please never miss class - she gives a lot of hints as to what's on the midterm/final. Work hard on the hw assignments - they can boost ur grade. You must review the material often because it builds up and she expects you to actually remember everything from last class. She's actually a very nice lady even though she seems intimidating.
The material is very heavy but she does a good job of presenting it in a coherent way. As has been said, making connections between sections is crucial because all this is happening in the cell and so nothing really happens independently. Pathways cross over and affect each other. Anyway, she's a good professor. Just don't stress yourself out.
Dr. Wright is the best prof I've had during my entire degree. She knows the course content inside and out and is obviously comfortable lecturing without notes or anything. Office hours are so valuable and she explains the material clearly. She was also willing to make up some quick practice questions for me in her office which was super helpful.
She loves the material but she talk too fast without taking enough pauses. The course itself is very heavy and doesn't fit the usual length of the semester. Be prepared to sit in front and pay too much attention. Her final exam is 50% of the class, so if you do good on the midterm and the take home quizzes, don't count on getting an easy A.
I've heard bad things about her 310 class, but for 200 she's a very good prof. She explains things clearly and will always point out concepts that are heavily tested on. Everyone in BIOCH200 are given the same exams regardless of their prof, so her exams aren't any different from other sections. As long as you pay attention in class, you'll be fine
Dr. Wright is an amazing prof. She makes sure that concepts are grasped completely before moving on. This course is very heavy and difficult, but she does her best at keeping the pace slow. Her explanations are solid and understandable. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed. The curve will work in your favour if you have her.
Dr. Wright is very knowledgeable about the content. I found the iclicker questions a good pauce between the material. Her slides are presented in a way that's easy to follow. She cares for students and gives prompt feedback throughout the term. The exam questions can appear tricky sometimes but are definitely reasonable.
She's an amazing prof, very insightful.
Amazing notes, good explanations, very systematic and clear explanations. Very precise wording in her questions, felt more like reading comp on tests. Wants everyone to succeed and the notes/lectures reflect that. She precisely explains how you should approach concepts to best answer exam questions. Would take again.
Dr. Wright was one of my favourite professors of the semester. She is amazing at teaching this extensive course. Her notes are organized, she clearly explains concepts, and points out what we should know for the exam. She is also very approachable outside of lectures and cares for her students which is a huge plus.
Dr. Wright is an amazing professor and is the only reason that I enjoyed this difficult course. Her explanations are crystal clear and her notes are very organized. She is very knowledgeable on the subject and is enthusiastic about what she teaches. She really wants students to succeed and it shows. Definitely one of the best professors I've had.
She is the best prof I have ever had. This course is tough because the exams require high levels of reading comprehension; however, she supplies countless practice problems that are very similar to her tests. She is really helpful when you come to her for questions. Such a lovely lady
Solid choice. Take notes on what she says, it'll help for the exam.
Concise and passionate, she is very informative and tells you exactly what to expect on exams. She is a very kind person and gives practice questions as often as she can which are in the style of the midterm and final (also the two are similar in difficulty). She does go fast, but if you try to actively follow the logic to keep up, it's fine
Go to her class and go over what is covered after each lecture (this will be fast) and you will end up with a good grade. The key is attending her lectures.
Dr. Wright is a great professor, she really makes it as easy as possible to understand the material (which is pretty complex). Unfortunately, you're only chance for grades is one midterm, a small quiz, and a final worth 50% and while the questions are multiple choice they require a very solid grasp on the material so a lot of study time is required
What you put into to Dr Wright's class, you will get out 10x as much. She taught the class in as interesting of a way you can for an introductory course, and it actually seemed like she cared about us. I want to be her when I grow up
As a prof, she's knowledgeable and willing to help. She goes through slides fast which leaves you with bare notes. Exam questions are fair, marking is unclear. You answer right, but her marking makes it so that you never get full marks. Leaves you confused on what you got wrong and what to answer next time. Don't expect an A, its biochem.
For 310, I think Dr. Wright explains concepts well (but sometimes she rushes over things). Grading for the quizzes, midterms, and the final is really frustrating at times; its difficult to get full marks for a question because the answer key requires very specific things. Because the class average is usually low, its definitely possible to get an A
Absolutely THE best prof I have ever had. Super clear and organized. Explains difficult material very clearly and always tries to simply if down. My love for biochem was even more heightened by my experience in this class. She is also passionate and extremely knowledgable in her subject area. Challenges you to think outside the box for once haha
Dr. Wright really loves the material and explains it really clearly. Biochem 200 was one of the only courses in my degree that I genuinely enjoyed attending lectures for
Going to lectures is a must. She is very straightforward about the content and the importance of it, her tests are fair
Dr. Wright is probably the best professor at U of A, not only is she super kind she also wants her students to succeed and actually helps you learn, not just reads slides of material. Biochem is a tough course but all of her lectures were incredibly enjoyable and seemed to fly by. She had fair exams and gave daily in-class clicker questions to help
Dr. Wright was the course coordinator for BIOCH 200, and she handled the exams very well and was very organized!
She was such a great prof and I wouldn't have done nearly as well in BIOCHEM without her as a prof. She explains things so well and is extremely helpful. Love her!
Lectures were interesting, emphasizes what you need to know. Study hard and the class isn't hard
There are horror stories of BIOCH 310, but if you have this prof, you are golden. She explains concepts very clearly and ensures you know exactly what you need to for the exams, so you don't need to spend countless hours flipping through the incredibly content heavy textbook. The curve is also very forgiving. Easy A.
Dr Wright is a very caring professor, she really ensures that all her students understand the concepts and have their tests marked fairly. Her class videos are super in depth and she explains content very well. Her tests aren't easy and sometimes worded weirdly but if you study and work hard you will get the mark you want. 11/10 professor.
Describes her slides very in depth. The course is extremely information heavy and lots of memorization but she explains things very well and points out the important things. Also she provides a lot of practice questions which helps so much.
Was probably my fav prof this sem. Her slides are very straightforward and 30% of the class is graded by open book untimed quizzes. The midterms and final were a bit tricky as she tests very fine details but she always emphasizes things that are heavily tested. Constant revision is a MUST if you take this but tbh it's a good class for an elective !
slides are nice but she speaks a ton/slide so be ready to write. heavy weighted midterm and final. my one problem is that we are not allowed to use scrap paper but... its biochem... lol structures are very important. to be fair she did make it so that the questions will not need scrap paper as much and provided places to write thoughts in exams.
Is very specific on what you need to know for tests. Quizzes were collaborative and her teaching is truly impeccable. I have never enjoyed a class this much before and it's truly due to Dr. Wright and her teaching... she makes the course so exciting! Exams can be tricky because of minute details that one can miss due to the stress of tests.
One of the best profs I have had! Lectures are easy to follow along and she does clicker questions throughout the class that help you pay attention and learn! Tests are fair and she is clear on what you need to know.
Lectures are content heavy but she explains key concepts well. Quizzes are tough but fair and collaboration is allowed on them. Midterm and final were also very fair and had lots of emphasis on the key concepts she highlighted in lectures.
Painfully tough grader, doesn't even give you part marks even though she says they do.
Definitely one of my favourites! Made the class enjoyable and her iClicker questions were reflective of exam questions. Exams are a bit tricky but as long as you put in the effort, you'll do fine. Although I found her a bit quick-paced at times, she always emphasizes important concepts you can expect on an exam.
Honestly this class was so hard - probably one of the hardest I've taken in university. Dr. Wright was an amazing prof though honestly, she clearly knows the material like the back of her hand. Tests were notoriously difficult, and you have to work hard to get a good grade. Dr. Wright made the class interesting, and is very available for qs.
All BIOCH 200 profs use the same slides and exams, so it doesn't matter who you take. Dr. Wright is a great teacher, but the exams are TRICKY. Beware of the 15% quiz: it's open book but it has options A-G with lots of A+B, B+C, all of the above questions. Few people improved their grade with the quiz. Final and midterm are fair, but also hard.
Amazing professor - knows everything inside and out and is able to convey it to students in an easy manner. Super caring as well, although she may seem unapproachable at first. Subtly funny too! Highly recommend.
Best Biochem 200 prof ever! Don't let the "rude" first impression ward you off her class. She is so caring to her students, responds to emails very quickly, and explains concepts in great detail. Utilize her lectures, combined with the problem sets and office hours and you'll be golden
Dr. Wright was an incredible professor as I am genuinely impressed by the Department of Biochemistry because they have done an incredible job with this course. Tests are hard and content is not easy, but Dr. Wright gives you every resource you need to succeed and is super kind during office hours.
Dr. Wright is the kindest prof I have ever had during my degree she truly cared and had amazing lectures and office hours. She took the time to explain all the concepts in several different ways and truly has a passion for the subject matter. I loved her class and wish I still had her as a prof.
Dr. Wright is one of the best professors I've ever had. Very engaging, highlights things that might trick you on exams, and has practice questions in class that outline how you should be thinking about the questions in the exam. She is also a great lecturer.
So happy to see Dr. Wright has a 5/5 on here! Such a caring person and fantastic teacher. Go to class, know your stuff, and you'll do just fine. The tests veer towards more of a reading comprehension exam, but Dr. Wright gives you all the material you need, and constantly hints at exam questions. Averages are low so you don't need to be perfect! :)
Biochem was one of the most interesting and fun classes I have taken. Dr. Wright is amazing and teaches the concepts so well and is very engaging. Even in an hour and a half-class, I paid attention for every single minute. The exams CAN be challenging, but if you do the practice questions and understand concepts rather than memorize you'll be fine.
Dr. Wright is such a kind and caring professor! She holds many office hours at different times so students can go ask questions at their convenience. She tries to explain concepts clearly as possible and she is also pretty funny! Definitely a dense course but if you put in the work, you will get the grade you want.
Dr wright has been one of the best profs ive had so far at u of a. she really took the time to make sure you really understood what she was teaching. took this course in the spring and she made it 100x better. would absolutely recommend taking her!!
One of the best professors i've had in UOFA so far. Caring, interesting and makes the topic less confusing. DId they course during spring and I really enjoyed it.
Dr. Wright kept the class engaged using ePoll questions and she is accessible directly after lecture had any questions float up. The course format, however, weighs heavily on the multiple-choice midterm and final exams, meaning you'll receive very little feedback, and only after 45% is already commited and finalized. Study groups are recommended.
wright slays and slays so hard fr
Explains concepts extremely well. Emphasizes style of questions/concepts that are high yield for exams and encourages active participation (eg. ePoll and asking us questions for engagement) in class which, personally for me, cemented the information and increased my understanding of the material.
Dr. Wright really took the time for her students to understand the concept. She focuses on the information that would usually show up on the exam and that really helps. She taught the material with passion and she really enjoyed teaching which made the class more engaging and more interesting.
Course marks are from 45% midterm, 5% quiz and 50% final. Tests were fair, some questions were easy to misread and get wrong (read each question carefully). Prof was very caring, used poorly done past exam questions for practice during lecture and explained how to do well in the course very well.
A wonderful professor. Caring, nice, and clear in what she expected us to know for the exams, I would recommend her for sure.
Professor focused on very specific things for midterm and final, not representative of the class material, and no previous exam material is released(?) This is looked down on by the Student Union and could easily be done to allow students to prepare better for the exams. Many drop this class due to stress for exams due to no study material/examples
Dr. Wright is one of the best professors I've ever had. Her love for the subject and for teaching really shine through, making the lectures enjoyable. I took the 3 week spring course which was challenging but she always let us know what to expect and what to focus on. Exams were fair! Would recommend taking bioch200 with her if you have the chance!
Dr. Wright is one of the best lecturers ever. She makes class engaging and encourages you to actually understand the material. She provides so much practice and opportunities to test yourself that it is very easy to succeed on the exams if you put in the work. Recommend taking biochem 200 in spring with her!
Dr. Wright is an engaging professor who makes biochem enjoyable. Her lectures are clear and she provides plenty of practice to succeed. Use unstuck AI alongside the free textbook to nail the exams.
She made the class so interesting and fun to learn about! The tests are tricky but she does give you hits throughout the course on what to focus on when looking at a question. 45% midterm and 55% final so you really have to know your stuff to do well
This class is very hard I'd say I'd rank it second of the 30+ I've taken. It is absolutely essential you make the right connections on the exams otherwise you won't get any marks. Give as much detail as possible in your answers for full marks. I finished with 64% so the curve is very fair fourtanately.
Never written a review before but Dr. Wright is one of the better teachers I've had in university. You can tell she cares about teaching and structures it in such a way that it's easy to get a grasp of tough topics with lots of questions. She also lets you know what question types to look for on the test. 40% midterm and 55% final are rough though.
I love this prof
Love Dr.Wright! Her lectures are clear and entertaining. The material is super tough and the tests are hard but if you study the topics she tells you it helps a lot. The class is curved so if you get the average you get B+. She tells you some hints about the exams but its a very heavy memorization and connecting concepts course
Dr. Wright is a great instructor, she explains concepts in a way that's easy to understand and gives lots of opportunity to ask questions during lectures. She also drops exam hints so attending class is necessary. The course is difficult but Dr. Wright makes it as straightforward as reasonably possible.
Dr. Wright is a fantastic and talented lecturer!!! Her lectures are interactive and entertaining. She tells you everything you need to know for exams. Difficulty of exams was on the easier end. She offers lots of practice and resources and is very approachable. In addition to being a great lecturer, she is an amazing and down to earth person!!!
Makes an already challenging class more difficult. Notes are incomplete to encourage attendance but flips slides too fast for you to even take a picture, forget writing it down. Miss 1 lecture and you're done. Talks very fast and won't slow down to explain. Wants very specific exam answers to vague questions. Textbook will help you Good luck...
I was off by 1 word from the answer key so she took me to the back of the class and shot me. Real note, you either get a 0/5 or a 5/5 (if you go to office hours), no in between. The questions are vague. She'll ask "what does your house look like" and you'll describe the structure, get 0 marks and find out she wanted you to describe the eavesdrop.
