Dr. Kopinska is a very nice person – she is trying to convince students otherwise but don’t get fooled . She is a great professor and by the end of the course you should feel competent conducting research and writing it up, and even using stats!
amazing! dr kopinska was my favorite prof
very fair. it is a difficult course but you can do very well if you do your part.
Fantastic prof! she is hilarious and makes classes really enjoyable. Her tests/assignments are hard, but they prepare you very well for continuing stats. I would definitely try to have her in classes in the future.
Great prof, smart and funny, fantastic person. One of the top profs at York.
Not helpful. Directs everything to TA. Blows my mind that anyone could think she's a good prof. Perhaps it's because of the overall weak quality of professors at York that people think she's good in contrast. Take a course at a good university before judging Kopinska as a good (or even decent) prof!
She is a very nice and understanding professor. Classes are interesting and she's pretty funny too. A fair marker.
I never expected I would enjoy statistics!
INCREDIBLE! Fair marker, EXTREMLY interesting lectures, has a unique way of connecting everyday things into stats. TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HER! She's genuine and really cares about her students, eventhough she pretends not to
She's the Best!!! I never thought stats could be fun. If you do your work and actually pay attention in her class, you can actually get an A+ (I know from experience ;)). And to those grumbling about how "tough" she is - she's not supposed to give you marks for nothing!
Fantastic. Very friendly, casual, perfect prof for seminar format. Funny, happy, cool, can't say enough good about her. A bit structureless sometimes, but that goes with the nature of the class and her style. Assignments take a long time for not much % of the mark. There is no textbook or tests. I'm shy but was comfortable talking in class.
She brings fun to the topic of psychology. She obviously loves her job and it shows. She is easy going and interesting to listen to.Her lectures are full of humour. Overall great prof!
Had Kopinska for Research Methods. Her assignments take forever to do, her instructions are not clear. Lectures are useless until the SPSS section which she rushes through. Mandatory attendance - 5% participation. Throws you into the deep end and makes you figure things out on your own. I'd never take a class with her again
She's a fun professor, although the assignments that are worth %5 are long and time-consuming for the mark its worth. She's a hard marker!
My god will you ever regret being in this professor's PSYC 3010 class. The first class was not an indication of the rest of the year. She said no books and no notes, then spent the rest of the semester telling us what we would be doing if we were in PSYC 4170. She told us she was ignores emails asking for help. It's true. Horrible experience, avoid
For the most part, lectures follow the textbook (but the odd time she'll throw in a bonus question on the test to reward those who go to the lectures). She's very helpful if you have specific questions, but when it comes to just explaining the lecture notes she can get off topic.
This is a very difficult class in terms of workload. That said, if you really want to learn about statistics and research methods, take this class. I've never worked harder in my university career but I've also never learned so much.Prof K wants you to figure out how to learn, she won't spoon feed you. She's great!
She knows her stuff, but tends to ramble off topic at times. Have fun with SPSS though, the assignments are very lengthy for only 5% :(
Every assignments are very time consuming and it is worth 5%each only. The worst thing is..the assignment is due on the same day as our tests. Besides, she didn't explain the content so clearly=( Most of the students skipped her class in the middle of the semester.
Amazing prof clearly loves what she does and engages the students, do not understand other students comments, ignore other students, if your lazy and slack and expect an A then clearly any class you take you wont get an A, do the work, go to class, participation marks for clickers so class is mandatory, very approachable and hilarious!
Given the opportunity, I would have taken this class with a different prof. I'm sure she is a nice person, but she is not cut out to be a professor. The assignments were extremely time consuming and unfair. She gets off topic easily, and throws things at students. Pointless to go to class, you are better off reading the textbook.
I love this prof! She is so engaging and funny. I really, for the first time ever, was excited to do my homework and come to class! She makes it so fun. If you read the chapter before class and then come and do her clicker questions, you will not even have to study for the exams! She also lets you bring in a cheat sheet to the exam!
The worst prof at York University. She is rude and although she knows her math, she think everyone else should! She is unclear and unprofessional! I emailed her many times for help and she just referred me to TAs! I would never take any class with her again!
A classic case of good person, not the greatest professor. She is nice and will take the time to meet with you, no textbook, and a fair amount of work. However, she's very unclear and the assignments are quite difficult and you won't have the knowledge base to do them. Frustrating, don't learn much, and won't end up with an A. Take a different prof
Well, i thought her classes were easy. The one thing that really frustrated me was buying the clicker and aplia, but in the end it helped a lot. i scored better in this class than psych2021. Shes really funny and her classes are entertaining but she lack clarity. She cant explain concepts well.
I was dreading her class b/c the comments here are fairly negative, but her exams are very easy! I got 97 on the midterm, finished with an A+. Gives bonus questions on exams, fun classes, and aplia is kind of annoying but will help you. She adjusted the evaluation based on whichever gives you the highest mark (thought this was very nice of her).
No SPSS assignments. Aplia was optional. Doesn't teach much, you're expected to learn it on your own and then quizzes you on every chapter prior to her lecturing the topic. Quizzes with clickers($40)and it counts as 12% participation overall. Final exam was much harder then first. Great personality and class is interesting. Wants you to do well.
She goes out of her way to help students.I was 1 hour late for the exam because I got the time confused and she allowed me to write it another day. She sometimes rambles, then rushes through equations, but she is more than willing to offer extra help. Tests are fair and she finds ways to boost everyone's mark, my grade increased approx 4%
Explains things really clearly. Plus, she's super funny :D Aplia and clicker testing helped A LOT . Do the readings and go to the lectures and you'll do amazing. The exams are a piece of cake.
She has a bit of accent, which at times can be hard to understand. She makes you purchase and use clickers or aplia which can be annoying (because it adds on money + textbook). She has a good sense of humour but it can be distracting and alot of the time I forgot what she was talking about.
Her enthusiasm in teaching and whimsical comments and class engagement make research a less boring course and the class worth attending.
Prof.Kopinska is amazing! I have taken 2 courses with her and would love to take more. You have to attend her lectures as she marks you on clicker participation. She tends to go off topic at times but explains the material very well. She makes a research methods course super fun. One of the best profs at YorkU!
She is hilarious and I actually looked forward to attending her lectures. Exams are easy, plus one assignment which is fair and clicker points. Skim the textbook and review her lecture notes and you should be good. Ended up with an A.
amazing prof. willing to help, very nice.
very entertaining class, was waiting for every lecture with interest. TAs are very helpful.Took it in winter term, read the whole book, which is very interesting, and got A+.
I'm in love with this prof! She presents material in a very funny and interesting way. There were 4 exams, clicker tests each class, urpp and 1 assignment which was an interesting experience. She really wants students to get a good grade. Received an A+. Totally recommend her.
She is absolutely hilarious and makes class very fun, however she does have a habit of getting off topic and then run out of time to cover everything needed. She also assigns a lot of videos that really don't have to do with anything, and yet are an hour long! Overall, if you read the textbook and come to class, she'll make sure you do well.
Good prof and very interesting class. however, her exams are somewhat tricky. I got a A+ in psyc2021 but felt can only got a A in her class. The use of cliker and Aplia seems troublesome. Anyway, recommend this prof and will take another course with her.
Dr. Kopinska is a great professor!!! She provides detailed lecture notes, which are helpful. Very resourceful and encourages students. Attend and particpate in class discussion, read textbook and you will pass the course. Kopinska has encouraged me to pursue further psych courses.
If you have to take stats2, do it with this professor, as the other ones are atrocious. I took her class as a 2nd attempt and finished with a good mark but you have to put in the effort and attend lectures for participation. She sometimes explodes over the smallest things like noise level which is scary and unprofessional. Overall, a good prof.
She is a funny prof, but she is all over the place. She uses the whole 3 hours of the class and to be honest you might as well just stay at home and do the work instead. The final exam was really hard and unfair. She doesn't answers to emails and when she does answers she very rude. The midterm was really easy, but final exam brought everyone mark.
Kopinska is the most hilarious professor I've ever had. Going to her class was fun, however, with this perk she carried many flaws. She discourages emailing her, uses defeating language such as "pathetic", doesn't understand managing her time in class, does NOT go through problems in depth (Instead she teaches from a foundation of assumptions).
Great prof, she is hilarious, makes class fun, keeps students engaged. She is a little unorganized and doesn't manage time well, but other than that she is awesome.
the best proff ever !!! if you need to take the psych 1010, she is the best proff to take it with.
Inspiring and obviously wants to help students succeed. A lot of valuable life lessons and overall interesting subjects. Some clarity issues during lecture and what's important, but if you read the textbook, tests are pretty easy.
if you go to class to learn things for the test there is no point. Just read the whole textbook. Her lecture slides aren't even helpful just like half the things she says. She posts the notes late as well because she is lazy and makes you fall behind. Plus she does not allow laptops in class and will full out embarrass anyone.
Worst prof. Never comes to class, never completes chapters on time, rushes through everything, very unorganized. Might consider changing my major because of this.
She's so funny and interesting. She keeps the class interesting and tries to ensure that everyone understands what she is saying. The clicker questions did get annoying but they are no longer mandatory. She tries to do her best to ensure all her students are succeeding. Love her!
One of the best profs I have ever had. Exams are extremely easy if concepts are understood at a fundamental level. Be able to do textbook problems to ensure a good mark.
Hard to understand!Need to remember a lot of things from her videos and need to read the textbook by yourself!
READ and KNOW the facts in THE TEXTBOOK! And you'll get an A+. She's a very interesting person and the lectures are very engaging! Do your readings and you're on your way to a great mark!
She is a great person and a lot of fun BUT she is not a good prof AT ALL. Usually talks about her own interests during class instead of lecture related material. No point of going to class as long as you read the book on your own and understand it. Not very helpful either :(
Kopinska's one of the BEST profs I've ever had in my life. She's absolutely wonderful. Her lectures are fun, informative, and she makes the concepts very easily understood. If you want to get a high mark in the course, make sure you study the textbook. She makes the course very fun, and she'll introduce you to things you've never seen/think before.
AMAZING PROFESSOR, RUsh to get into her lecture if you're taking PSYC1010 (or any other course for that matter). Tests are NOT DIFFICULT, classes are interesting and very eye-opening. She cares about her students and the future of humanity, TAKE HER COURSE!!!
Dr. Kopinska is funny and honestly a very nice person. She WANTS students to do well. Yes she has an accent, but it isn't hard to follow. Her teaching method is all over the place BUT she gives people many chances to base your marks on instead of just exams, like aplia, clicker questions and also putting the movie questions on the exams.
Do not take this prof!! too much work in class, assignment was extremely hard, and the videos are too much. before each exam you are required to watch about 20 videos from 5 mins to 2 hours. for the final you are required to watch over 100 videos. if you do take this class do not differ a midterm because the make up is 2 days after the final
She's so cool and interesting! I love sitting in her lectures and hope to somehow embody her presence one day.
Kopinska is hilarious. The videos are actually relevant and interesting, so just watch them and stop complaining. You're given 4 non-cumulative tests, covering approx. 3-4 chapters each; about 60 MC questions. Super easy, just read the textbook as she uses examples directly from the featured studies.
She's hilarious. She makes class material incredibly engaging. She's always upbeat and somehow, going to class puts me in a better mood. Do the work and this class is a piece of cake.
Prof Kopinska is awesome! She is vey caring about her students. Not an easy A but will be if you read the chaps & study b/c there is a lot of info to know. Very interesting course & her assigned videos makes understanding concepts easier & educates you too. Def.recommend this course w/ Prof Kopinska! (4 exams, 1 assignment and clicker questions.)
She is the one of the best profs at York make sure to take her class she really cares about her students and you will learn a lot from her. This is a University course so you will have to study for your tests, attend class and do your readings.
You don't even know how much I love this girl!!! She is one of the best profs I've had at York and very easy. She doesn't let you go on your phones in class and she will call you out if you do (which is hilarious when its not you). She's really approachable and so funny. Definitely take her class if you want a fun, easy course!!!
WOW, the easiest A+ i have received. I never went to class during the 2nd half of the course and learned everything 2 days before each exam and still did very well. Basically you just got to memorize the book, but it can be hard at first if you dont have a science background. TOTALLY RECOMMEND HER!!!
Prof Kopinska does assign videos but it expands your knowledge. You will do well if you read the textbook, read her slides & watch the videos. Clicker Q's are on videos which can boost your grade. Exams: simple, straight forward. Assignment: simple if you understand what is req'd. Overall, Prof Kopinska is very sweet & caring about her students.
She is really good and her class was really fun and interesting
Great prof, super funny and makes interesting lectures. Only negative is that she wont let you use your laptops to take notes in her class. I would definitely recommend her!
Very inspiring professor, i am so glad to meet people like her, very approachable. I strongly recommend her, she makes lectures so interesting and enjoying. Overall, an exceptional person.
Prof Kopinkska is full of energy, humour and knowledge! I always looked forward to her classes, they were always the highlight of my week! She covered material well and made classes incredibly interactive and interesting by including fantastic mind opening videos ! What an activist and truly beautiful person! Text essential if you want an A!
she's a great prof. as long as you watch the videos, attend lect. and read the book you'll ace the exams.
Really good professour, cares about her students. Lectures were fun and informative, has a good sense of humour as well. Provides a lot of opportunities for students to do well. Read the assigned readings beforehand before attending her lectures. Study off her ppt's and the blue words in textbook. Easy tests. Should get an easy A.
By far one of the best if not the best professor I have ever had. Class is always enjoyable. Prof. Kopinska is genuine & truly cares about students and their marks. She is approachable & tests are fair & straight forward. Complete your readings and watch the movies (pay attention to every details).
She is the best prof! Her class is really fun and the tests are fair! I recommend taking as much Psyc courses as you can with her!
She wont spend much time explaining things. You spend most of the time watching videos, but you are still responsible for the text material so be prepared to work a lot. Her exam was hard too. Also, she was often absent but you were still responsible for the material she did not cover.
Prof Kopinska is an amazing lecturer! She's clear, she's funny, she shows movies - it's a great time. It's also a really educational time. I have nothing to say except this: if you haven't taken her PSYC 1010 course, you need to. I showed up, did the readings, watched the TEDtalks and videos and I got an easy A+. Best class!
BEST ever!! she hates technology in her class and would most likely disgrace you if she finds you with your phone. loads of clicker questions, but you should be fine if you watch assigned videos. I love her
Took this as a preparation for thesis, i wish i had some other prof. The seminar is fun and interactive but not educational beyond TedX Videos and a few rough SPSS tutorials (which were really hard to follow). She gives verbal feedback after presenting your hypothesis which is pretty useless. Her feedback in general is "um,well you tell me, f.i.o"
If you are weak at Stats, stay away from this prof! I'm a straight A student & this Prof. failed me! Midterm was fair. Final insanely long & challenging. Doesn't teach - just tests you via clickers ea. class. Adds extra material independent of text & suggests you watch Youtube for clarityhelp! Grading scheme will hurt u if u don't buy Aplia
She's definitely lost her passion for teaching. Anytime a student has a legitimate question, she ignores it. Even after a majority agreeing that we do not understand the material, she ignores and continues on with the lecture. OH! And shes testing us on material that wasn't covered at all! Used to like statistics... not anymore.
I enjoyed statistics. Who would ever expect? She uses clickers and makes you do all the calculations in class. The assigned videos were very interesting.
Incredibly unprofessional, rude, not helpful. Uses Facebook as her course website. Needs to find a new career as teaching is obviously not her niche.
This was the most interesting course I had so far! Dr. Kopinska is a great teacher and her classes were fun. Fantastic animal documentaries.
Professor Kopinska at first could be intimidating, because she talks very bluntlystraight to the point. I have grown to really respect her because she is very dedicated to her students. Her lectures are interesting even though it's Stats! She gives many different options to obtain marks which lifted a ton of weight from my shoulders.
I love her. She is so engaging in her lectures. She cares about what the material and presents it in very easy to understand way. The videos we were assigned to watch were inspiring and highly relevant to our lives.
the best thing about this course was the prof. she is interactive and fun and I would not survive this course otherwise. this was my second course with her and I am hoping to have her as a teacher again.
Enjoys making lectures fun. Not great one-on-one, or at help outside of class.
She's a great Prof as long as you don't talk or don't use teck in her class. Tests are super easy if you study and as not a bird course but an A+ is possible. Ultimately a great mark booster, albeit a long one. Also she cares about her students so that's always a good thing.
Great prof. Sit near the front where you can hear her, the speakersmic setup isn't very effective at times. She also has an accent so be warned. If you study the textbook, slides, and watch assigned videos you'll do fine.
great prof! lots of work. watch the videos and pay attention. She knows a lot.
this was my favourite 4th year class. The presentation was a great experience. Great people in the course. Dr Kopinska turned this course into a great experience.
Very Hard to understand and skips the most interesting material. Rambles on and gives irrelevant personal anecdotes.
I took the introduction to psychology with professor Kopinska 3 years ago and it is still my most favorite course so far. Hope to have her as a teacher again.
a very fair prof, an enthusiastic lecturer. very interesting readings and videos
While Prof. Kopinska is intelligent, charismatic & friendly, if you are weak at stats, do NO take this course w her. She reviews material instead of teaching it. I was very disappointed. Transcript ruined bc of this course & I'm an A student. I wish I wd hv used this resource earlier & taken this course w a prof. who has diff teaching approach
increedible course, incredible prof
I'm currently in prof. Kopinska's intro to psych class. She keeps the class engaged and knows the material inside & out. Watch all the videos she posts on her website and read the text. Although she doesn't quite teach the information and she makes you work for your grade she is kind and willing to help if you ASK. Study and you will be fine :)
One of the best professors I've ever had at York. Kopinska has exceptional teaching skills and she genuinely cares about the success of her students.
IM IN 3RD YEAR AND IVE NEVER HAD A BETTER TEACHER THAN HER, DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR AN TAKE IT WITH HER
Kopinska was absolutely amazing. Must attend lecture if you plan on doing well. She's so hilarious and tests were pretty predictable. One of my favourite profs at York so far.
As far as her personality goes she's A+.Unfortunately her lectures aren't as informative.I sometimes find her just repeating what's on the PowerPoint. Lectures go right to the end bcuz she plays a lot of useless videos. Wish she spend more time explaining rather than playing videos & silly pictures in class that could be watch at home. Amazing lady
This prof is the best prof you will ever have in your life! She really cares about her students, explains materials clear with lots of examples. She will assign videos that are helpful academically as well as life lessons. If all the profs at were like her, the world would be a better place. Do yourself a favour, take a course with her.
One of the best professors I've had so far. Her lectures are interesting &she makes participation fun. She really cares about her students, and wants everyone to do well. Attend lectures, watch video postings& read PP notes and you'll do well. Highly recommend her and hope to have her as a prof again.
I never enjoyed summer school as much as I did this year and thanks to Dr. Kopinska! She's funny and she never fails to engage the class. You will learn a lot not only from Dr. Kopinska, but from the videos she posts for the class! (videos assigned are tested) Like any other class, you need to put in effort in Psyc 1010. A+ is achievable!
Great professor! I really enjoyed her lectures.
Great Prof, I literally begged to be in her class once again after 3 years, she's been my best PROF so far! Highly recommend her.
One of the best professors here at York! Very funny and knows how to make students pay attention for 3 hours. Very clear and helpful with the material and the tests can be easy if you come to class, read, and do your homework (especially with stats)! 10/10 would take another course with her!
amazing prof. fun and easy course. it has some readings but its not much.
Very out going, easy course, she teaches life lessons, heals narcissistic personality disorder just from her classes... haha , thanks, indeed she's inspirational. Tests were fare, bonus marks for doing the clicker questions (which aren't mandatory but she likes to collect data haha )
she doesn't explain things well at all and expects everyone to know everything
Dr.K is amazing prof., I had her for Psyc 1010/2020. Very helpful, caring, and effective. She is always available when you need and she offers amazing guidance.
She was hilarious, engaging, inspirational, and I was never interested in psychology before, I actually learned without wanting to. Lectures are long, but she keeps the class engaged. Learn the concepts and use the study guide and you will pass with a good mark. Also she gives extra credits for group participation and extra activities!!!
Good, fun and knowledgeable prof , if you study text books (no details) watch videos and study ppt you can get easy A , the exam is really fair .
Awesome
Positives: Read the textbook chapters and understand the vocabulary, it is a guaranteed A. Lectures are long (3hrs) but there are breaks and she always keeps the class entertaining with humor and the course is very interesting at times. Negatives: Prof does have an accent but is still easily understood. No cellphones or laptops in class.
Not only does she assign chapters to read for HW, but also videos to watch which are testable (approximately 1-2hrs worth of videos for each class). Be prepared to buy extra clicker (about $42 extra) and the book is about 1000 pages which is covered within few month. Test are tricky. Horrible accent and does not know how to behave in public.
Not recommended as a prof. Assigns too much material to learn. Tests are tricky. Lectures are tough to sit through. Thinks she has a sense of humor. Biased on many issues and tries to influence you on them.
It is not an easy course: there is lots of reading and videos. It is a very interesting course and the prof is fantastic!
Her lectures are very engaging and entertaining/funny at times. A lot of her test is based on in class videos and discussions. Her tests are not super hard. If you read the book, watch the videos and and attend lectures, you can easily get an A
a very knowledgeable professor and an amazing person
An amazing and funny prof! She posts lots of videos to watch at home, so make sure you watch them because they are also tested on! Lots of readings for the course in general, so keep on top of everything and you'll be fine. Tests were fair and there are bonus clicker questions!
BEST PROF EVER 3 !!!!!!!!!!
Very caring prof! She assigns lots of readings and videos that are about 30mins - 1.5 hours long per week. But they're really interesting ones. Workload can be time consuming but not difficult. Easy to get an A if you watch the videos, go to lecture, and read chapters - tests are based on all three. Make sure to study chapter reviews too!
I took intro to psyc with her during the summer and I absolutely loved her lectures! As long as you pay attention during them you're fine since (at least during the summer) what was taught in class was on the exam. Now, if you're going for A++ you'll probably want yo read the text book as well and keep up with your notes. Exams at easy if you do :)
Her tests are fairly straightforward, and there is a lot of opportunity for extra marks. She gave 10 percent for Aplia (online homework) and 10 percent for clickers. One annoying aspect of her class was the fact that you have a list of required videos to watch for each test which she tests on. But besides for that it wasn't too hard
Her tests are fairly straightforward, and there is a lot of opportunity for extra marks. She gave 10 percent for Aplia (online homework) and 10 percent for clickers. One annoying aspect of her class was the fact that you had a list of required videos to watch for each test which she tests on (usually didn't have much to do with stats).
She is funny and she makes the class interesting with anecdotes. Awesome Prof!
She makes the educational experience interesting. so it's not boring and lectures are fun.
Amazing prof
She is an amazing prof and made lecture fun. The assigned videos can be annoying but most are interesting and you can speed them up on YouTube. Watching them and remembering to bring and participate with your clicker in lecture will be the difference between A and A+. Wish I had her for 2021 and 2040.
PSYC2020- She didn't explain to well, the clickers were good. Test were straight forwards, however some questions were regarding the video's and they made no sense to be honest. Albeit, i had to study a lot more on my own cuz she did not do to well explaining some parts of the texts. Aplia is also very annoying, too many questions to solve!
She gives TED talks in class that shows up in exams. She uses clicker questions before classes start, which will help you boost your marks. Questions from her clickers range from the most simple to sample test questions. She is an old fashioned professor. No electronics during her classes and she means it. Also, she does not record lectures.
If you really wanna learn about Neuropsychology, do not take this course. She did not teach ANYTHING, instead we had student presentations every week about a specific topic. The presentation was hard work. Since she doesn't teach anything you have to find everything on your own making it difficult to meet her standards. I was very disappointed :/
I switched to psychology after taking this course. Dr. Kopinska is a wonderful person and a great teacher. The tests are fair and the lectures are interesting and fun. She uses clickers. Read the chapters and watch the videos.
Great prof! Her lectures are amazing and she is hilarious which makes it easier to attend lectures. However, she has a very strict no laptop, cellphones and tablet rule during lecture. Just read the textbook and take good notes and you shall do good. There are chunk of marks determined by participation so you must attend lecture.
She is hilarious and for the most part has entertaining lectures except for the 1 or 2 boring ones. She is very strict on no laptops and phones and she means it or she will call you out on it. Her test are fair just read the textbook and slides. She also uses clickers every class for participation marks so attendance is crucial.
Straight up she's a hippie, and she is soooo amazing. Kind hearted and just gives off amazing vibes. She is very approachable. Her tests are not very difficult if you study and participate in class. Not the type of professor that nit picks tiny passable details and tests you on them. Honestly idk what to say but she is so great TAKE PSYCH1010
Dr. Kopinska is an amazing lecturer. Most of her lectures are from the text. Test material is at the minimum difficulty level. If you read the chapters assigned and watch the videos assigned and come to class and take decent notes you can get an A easily. PS. I got a A+ in her class (The first of my university career in 4 years)
Okay prof, took in summer. Rambles on for 3hrs, only reason to go to lecture is for REEF (graded clicker questions). Reads off slides, doesn't explain scientific processes very clearly. Stick to reading textbook, lecture slides & watching her assigned videos (mostly TED talks). Very nice, humanistic prof otherwise, funny. Easy B+ w min effort
a very knowledgeable prof and a great person. Attend the classes (attendance bonus), read the textbook and watch the videos. I got an A+ and I learned a lot.
Hilarious, caring, & very interactive with students. She gives you the option of getting bonus points and the choice of writing a paper or not. She is flexible and great at explaining concepts. She assigns videos to be watched at home and will test on them using REFF. You have to read the textbook and lecture to get an A. enjoyed her class. Bravo!
Unclear instructions on assignment & answers "yeah sure whatever" if you ask questions in front of the class. Every single class she complains about how bad smartphones are. WAY TOO MANY videos; approx. 30 per test and length range 5-90 minutes. WORST punctuality.
She is a funny woman. If you know the course outline very well and are prepared then it is not hard to get a good grade. For the test watch the videos, use the texbook(questions at the back as practice), and review the PowerPoints. The videos are a lot but they help with understanding the course material.
If you have the chance to take a class with Dr. Kopinska, I highly recommend you take it!! She gives tons of bonus marks & uses REEF in class - easy to get a high grade if you study the textbook and make notes. My all time favourite teacher during my University experience
She's an amazing professor. Definitely takes the time to connect personally with her students. You do, of course, need to make an effort. Do the readings and practice questions and you will easily succeed. She gives her students multiple opportunities to improve their grade. I worked hard and I ended up with an A+. So it's definitiely possible.
Loved this teacher and this course. She's so interactive and really cares about the students. I took this course during the summer as a transfer student and it was well worth it. 10/10 recommend.
good prof. She gives lots of chances to get bonus marks, her lectures are fairly interactive with the use of clicker questions to keep you engaged for the 3 hours. Exams are fair. If you do your readings and homework in addition to the bonuses she offers you'll do very well in this course. Math is my worst subject but I did well because of bonuses.
She's super sweet! and her class was always a fun time. I recently took this class this summer and it was great. We had online clickers that you could do in class or even at home, 4 tests and an assignment. Overall if you read the textbook, watch the videos she assigns and the notes you make in class or her slideshows, you will do amazing!
Amazing professor who made my 1st psychology course really worth it! You need to attend her classes since she shows many videos and others are assigned for home viewing. Participation is very important to ace.
I couldn't understand anything. not one class. she speaks soft and her accent is really strong. she never gets to the point so you never know where you are.
Agnieszka is hilarious, I always look forward to her class. There's a lot of reading and participation in lecture is important, but if you put the work in there's a lot to gain from her. Would highly recommend!
nicest and easiest prof ever. lots of opportunities to get bonus marks
This was my favorite class and prof of the year, her lectures were engaging and she brought a lot of wisdom to the class that went beyond our course outline. She went above and beyond, I never thought I would be so excited to make it to an early in the morning psychology class!
Have mixed feelings for Kopinska. She goes off on rants/tangents sometimes but I think the worst part is all of the assigned videos you have to watch. Yes, HAVE to watch. You get tested on them. Some of them are 10 minutes long, some can be over an hour - and there are A LOT of them. Other than these, everything else is ok. Tests are all MC always
Lots of opportunities for extra credit - pushed my grade up. Very strict no phone/laptop rule, unless you have permission (you will be called out). A TON of assigned videos (block about 3-4 hrs/week) and they show up the exams. Show up to class, REEF clicker questions count for 4% of grade. Can be late to upload PDFs of slides, but overall, great!
Amaaazing professor, had 2 courses that I wasnt interested in but she made them so fun. Caring, understanding, and fun.
I am psyc student and this was the first psyc class I took. It's really important to relate to the material and instructor, which I did. Yes, her accent is different, but you ought to be attentive, and all should be fine.
She givex opportunities for extra credit but she is so vague about assignments. She actually said she "won't take any questions" for the assignment, belittles students, won't let students use technology (and will call you out). She inflates her ego, but can't even teach well. I leave more confused but go for participation marks cuz tests are hard.
very interesting course
lots of opportunities to earn extra grade by using iclicker and aplia she seems scary at first but she really cares about her students and she is super funny
AVOID. Makes you watch 3+ hours of videos per exams, you go to class for participation but her lectures are useless. She's rude, elitest and calls people out in class. She makes a hard course harder than it needs to be. She reads off slides. "I'll take questions about our assignment, well, it's your assignment not mine" is a quote (not as a joke)
I really enjoyed the course and received a good grade. The prof is very kind and caring and gives lots of opportunities to earn extra marks. She makes you watch videos but they are relevant to the course material.
Inspiring course. Lots of work but if you study, participate and watch the videos you can easily get a good grade.
Very dense in information, she test on random hour-long documentaries, gives opportunities to score extra credit. she pretty much just reiterates the powerpoints and makes jokes once and a while and you get used to her thick accent. the tests are usually 65 questions so if you get like 16 wrong you still get an 86 so there is room for error
She doesn't allow laptops in class, Yes she will call out people every once in awhile. Mostly if you're being rude. (talking in class/not listening 2 rules). She's blunt and honest. If you watch her videos when she recommends you 2, won't need2 binge watch them. Lots of textbook reading. Her lectures tend to run long (3hrs), it can make u drained
She's hilarious, blunt and not afraid to speak her mind. She gives you multiple ways to bump up your mark. Exams rely heavily on videos assigned to watch so make sure to watch the videos but you only need 1-2 views. She does in class quizzes for the videos as participation marks/review. She's a great teacher and teaches in an enjoyable way.
Kopinska spends the first hour of the lecture talking about unrelated material, so don't worry too much about being on time. One time, she spent an hour giving us a pep talk on finding a life partner. She expects you to read and understand the material before class. Do all the clicker and MindTap stuff otherwise your exams are 50% each. Godspeed.
Dr. Kopinska's teaching was amazing, loved the class, she explains concepts well in class.
Decent professor, accent can get in the way sometimes. Gave us a bunch of videos to watch before the midterm/exam, don't bother. FINISH MINDTAP. All I did for practice were the problem sets given on there, and reviewed lecture notes. Easy A+. Final exam was bell curved 15%. Bless.
Kind but explains a lot, her voice is monotone, soft & slow. I normally need a cup or two of coffee to stay awake in her 3 hour class. I wouldn't take her again (due to her teaching) but her testing is easy. All multiple choice and easy iclicker boost to score in. Very easy to score if you pay attention in class and skim through textbook roughly
I took this course during summer Her lecture talking is hard to follow She sometime ignore people who raise their hands She barely write anything on blackboard No laptop or cell phone allowed unless you have special condition Not providing practice questions before exam So glad I only need 6 credits in Social Science
a fantastic teacher and a very interesting course
Taking this class in the summer so we have two 3-hour classes per week where we should cover a chapter a class, which would be possible if she actually taught the material instead of pondering about life and going on tangents. There's also no screens allowed which is not a big deal but she makes it a big deal. Most of us are adults, just let us be.
Dr. Kopinska is a great teacher. I have learned more in this course that in all my years of education. It was lots of work but she cares about her students and is generous with grading. You can earn an extra grade using clicker and participating in online forums.
Iclicker is mandatory for participation, and waste of my time to come tbh majority is just stupid MC questions based on feelings and sometimes the videos she makes us watch. LOTS OF TED TALK VIDEOS. Her lectures are fairly useless because she reads off slides and elaborates very little and shows videos. Only positive thing is her energy.
I enjoyed this course a lot. I also took statistics and animal behaviour with this professor. She is a great teacher. She also is a wonderful person.
She is such a nice human being and she makes stuff so easy, she explains so clearly and she's also a generous grader. we had 4 tests(All MC) and 1 assignment but iclicker is mandatory so you have to attend classes which can be boring sometimes. but overall I learned a loooot. don't miss it if it's with her!
Took Kopinska for 2 courses and I can say her marking scheme is very good. My advice would be to study from the book and not her notes because this is where you will run into trouble. Her tests are 100% based off of the textbook (usually bolded terms in textbook) and videos. She also gives a bell curve, which is nice.
Great person and pretty good teacher. She doesn't allow computer or phones during class unless you have an accommodation and will call you out if she sees you on either. Really generous when it comes to grading and makes lectures interesting by using memes and interesting iclicker questions. Overall really enjoyed the class.
she has great sense of humor the only thing is it gets boring. she doesn't really focus on the text book which I find in this course it we should specially if %90 of the exam questions are based on the book and not the lecture. I wish the exam wasn't multiple choice rather essay questions.
I had Dr. Kopinska for psyc 1010 and 2020 and she is very kind, she teaches well. Posts lectures on moodle and videos to watch for exams. All multiple choice questions on exam, up to 60. Easy course but participation matters.
Absolutely lovely. Really enjoyed her classes, she's very funny and easy to understand. She sticks to her lectures and almost makes sure that you pass just make sure you come to class because some slides and videos won't be accessible to you and she does questions in class. Would highly recommend !!!!
Shes pretty good. Take part in the clicker stuff that she does in class and mindtap they make a huge difference in your mark if you are not really strong in math. Definitely go over lectures, read the textbook. Shes very funny and what she teaches in lecture is usually on the test not in the exact same way though. Mc worth 60% SA worth 40%
Dr. Kopinska is one of the most interesting and genuinely kind people that you will meet at YorkU. When you take her classes, you will learn much more than you initially expected to- about the course content and as well as yourself. She is wonderful.
she is the best. you will learn a lot from her. not a tough grader. so many bonus marks that you can boost your mark.
Going to Dr. Kopinska's class is so interesting because her lectures make you reflect on yourself instead of just absorbing the information for tests. She's a really interesting person herself and if you talk to her she is so kind and wants to get to know her students. She is by far one of my favorite professors for actual learning. Fair marker.
Dr. Kopinska is the best professor I have ever had. Her lectures explain most of the material and she finds ways to make it more interesting. She teaches you about life lessons and additional interesting information. She is a very kind, caring and engaging professor. I have learned so much about myself aside from course content. 100% Recommend!!!
If you read the textbook, attendance is not mandatory. She does use encourage the use of an app to participate in in-class questions that give you bonus marks at the end of the course.
She's really funny but also really weird. She makes weird jokes during lectures and goes off topic about life and the human mind to the point where we barely got to cover half the slides during each lecture. Her tests are really easy and the assignments are easy as well. It's nice to have an eccentric prof once in a while.
Took in the summer. She posts videos so make sure you watch them for the MIDTERM! my mistake i made for the first midterm.. Her multiple choice can be very specific for these videos. Tests were marked super fair. She LOVES clicker!! So dont skip class! Youre allowed a "cheat sheet" for tests! :) dont need to memorize any formulas!
Hated this prof, she bans phones and laptop and tells you how bad technology is for you and would call you out in class. Her accent also makes her lectures so hard to follow! Good thing is that shes pretty funny and she bell curves the marks and allow you to have a small cue card cheat sheet for formulas.
Worst professor I've had. Does not care about her students, tries to make their life as hard as possible, not flexible at all (had her during COVID-19 pandemic), you can walk out of each lecture wondering what she talked about for the 3hrs. Is never clear on what she expects (class avg. was 31% for midterm). Do yourself a favor & stay away!
Prof is funny but not understanding whatsoever. Calls out anyone and everyone, lectures don't make sense, she goes off topic for most of the lecture. I had multiple mental breakdowns because of the stress she gave me
Do not take Animal Behavior with this prof. She is a good person, however her exams are so hard. She makes you watch more than an hour long videos and asks the hardest possible questions. She barely gives enough time in the exam so it has to be rushed and her exams are extremely stressful. Avoid if you can.
Dr. Kopinska is a good person, but very unreasonable. Her MC tests were ridiculous & hard to comprehend, and gives you very little time to complete them (eg. 63 questions in 60 minutes). She also didnt give us a grading rubric for one of our papers, and penalized us for things we didnt know about because we had no base! I wouldn't recommend.
Dr. Kopinska is wonderful. Although you also become somewhat of a film student in her class because of all her videos; they're all there for a good reason. She ties all the concepts presented into the course in a very elaborate way, and she is very fair when evaluating you. I'm lucky to have had her for this course!
Shes a decent prof! Goes off topic a lot and has a very particular opinion on life in general but other than that she's very passionate about her work and cares about her student! Go to class, take notes, read the textbook and watch the assigned videos and you'll be just fine!
She is not empathetic to students, does not care that you have other classes, and refuses to go out of her way to help students - doesnt answer emails and is clearly annoyed by them. 2 classes a week, 2 homework forums, 2 chapter readings, 2 mindtap quizzes. Classes are not helpful but mandatory due to iClicker.
You need to just keep track of what she points out multiple times on and honestly its not that hard. Her tests are fair, she tells you what its going to be on. She is honestly a perfect introduction to PSYC 1010. i would highly recommend her she is great.
Dr. Kopinska is an amazing prof who really cares about her students, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic! She is very friendly and approachable and she's clearly passionate about what she teaches. Just attend class, participate via iClicker, read the textbook, do MindTap, and watch the assigned videos. If you do all that, you'll be just fine!!!
I found it really hard to understand her explanations, & she didn't follow her syllabus, which made it hard to be prepared for class. Time management is not her strength. You can only communicate with her and the TA's through a forum, & some questions just went unanswered. I only learned by reading the textbook and doing Mindtap exercises.
Went for stats, got lectured about life and my values, which is not what I signed up for. She insists she cares about students and, but she doesn't listen and gets defensive and argumentative easily. I really disliked this prof.
1) She changed her syllabus thrice 2) 1 chapter/week for the whole semester except the last 2 weeks which were 2 chapters/class. Time management 0 3) She doesn't care about her email. 4) Changes deadlines for assignments like I change my clothes. "Don't take this class if you cannot attend in person classes" - Ma'am I wouldn't if I didn't have2
She asks you to participate in class with iclicker. This is bad! But she gives away bonus grades on many different levels. The exam is normal. She has a good TA team that can support you. She does not want to see any protest in her class! Do not do that. Her classes could be shorter. But she insists on long mandatory classes.
Honestly I don't think I actually learned one thing from her explanation and teaching - the only reason I did decent in this course was because of the mind tap and the textbook. She also diverged from the syllabus about 3 times which made it hard to be prepared for lectures. I also found I received conflicting answers between her and the ta's.
She explained the material really unclearly, gave little free bonus marks to try to compensate, and insisted that she's so generous and students don't know how good they have it. To me, having it good means having an instructor that explains things clearly, not a frustrating and confusing one that gives out a few meaningless freebies.
She is an okay lecturer however it seems she got frustrated when students would ask questions. I learned mostly from the forum question homework and mindtap questions. However she does give lots of chances to get high grade by doing the iclicker, mindtap and forum questions i did average on the tests but still managed to get a good mark.
Dr. Kopinska is an absolutely amazing prof who makes stats soooo easy to understand! Not only is she extremely passionate about what she teaches, but she's also super sweet! She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to do well in her class. While her exams are a bit too long, they're actually fairly easy if you know your material well.
She is an amazing prof. She truely cares for her students. There is one forum question to complete every week. She gives you videos to watch at home before every lecture. The number of videos and the length of the videos varies. Her tests are based both on the textbook, her lecture notes and the weekly assigned videos. If you study, you will pass!
She was an amazing prof! She made stats so enjoyable and even though there was a lot of homework, it really help in the long run on exams the question were so similar.
amazing prof IMO. she cares for her students and offers help for everything course-related and personal matters. during lectures she makes you do iclickers which count for 21% so you really have to go because it is graded on correctness. Other than that assignments, forum etc are super easy for tests you need to study the textbook chapters. easy A
Professor Kopinska is one of those rare professors that really cares about her students and wants them to do well. Her marking is incredibly fair and generous. She also has a great sense of humour and is quirky in a very endearing way. I loathe stats but she made material easy to understand. Highly recommended.
goes off topic a lot, covers very minimal content that is posted online, she is rude to students she also gets easily rattled, and does not provide any assistance when students ask questions
Does not make any grading scheme clear, doesnt start lectures until the last 30 minutes of the class and when she does she runs through them and you understand nothing. Does not communicate with students so often we never know whats going on or expected from us. DONT TAKE HER
Rude to students that simply ask her to clarify something she made unclear. Extremely confusing and frustrating instructions given and marks students based off of these random unclear tasks, not caring that more than half the class has no idea what's going on. Constantly going off important topics onto conspiracy theories 10/10 would NOT recommend
In one word: Amazing. It was educational. It was fun. Makes me wish I interacted more with her. If you can't pass her class, there are other things to do. I fear I may never meet another one like her.
Rude, scattered, and defensive. Confusing lectures, unpredictable tests & assignment. Worst experience at York by far.
She's nice, but she drifts away from the topic alot, she yells at you for stating your own opinion (that she asks for by the way), her assignments are really unclear and the instructions for them are ?? She gets mad when you ask for clarification and will respond with "watch the previous lecture" or "I answered that already".
What a great, charismatic, caring professor. Loved her method of teaching, her content, and her ability to teach all the material and add her own wisdom to each lecture. The best Psychology professor hands down!!!!
She constantly goes off topic and ends up rushing through in the last 20 minutes of class. She is rude, disrespectful, and unclear in her explanations. If you say something wrong, she will pick on you in front of the class by insulting your intelligence. Take her class if you can comfortably teach yourself the content using the textbook alone.
Absolutely don't take this course with her online. Her lectures are 3 hours mostly rants and you're likely to get your head bitten ff for asking anything.
The prof's a little out there, but the exams were fairly simple. Assignments every week though, and they're all pretty confusing. Also, the lectures were 3 hours which absolutely shouldn't have been the case. So draining and a waste of time. She used iclicker though just an fyi.
This was a mandatory class as for my program, if I would've known that this prof was going to teach this class, I would have never taken it. It becomes extremely uncomfortable to view the live lectures since she does not fail to argue with students and belittle students if students are unclear with the material, making it extremely awkward.
Not sure where to begin here. Had to take her class online and she used the entire 3 hour lecture time to go off topic. She was so rude to the students and did not have any understanding towards those who had technical difficulties. She will argue and belittle you if your opinion does not match hers. Good luck.
She can barely stick to her lectures and tries to push some vegan spirituality bs in class. I learnt everything from crashcourse and the textbook. If you don't have a background in psyc you might struggle. The tests and assignments are easy once you understand though. She's just terrible at teaching you it.
This was research methods course yet she managed to make every class very entertaining. This was my third class with her. Attend the classes and take advantage of all the extra opportunities to increase the grade (participation, optional assignments).
Prof. Kopinska means well but can be confusing to learn from. Her iClicker questions and weekly assignments usually don't make sense during lectures and she isn't very receptive to student questions as she tends to criticize students for asking 'silly questions'. However, the course is organized in a way that makes it very easy to get an A+
Dr. Kopinska managed to make every class entertaining even though this was a research methods course. This was my third class with her and I hope to take 3rd and 4th year courses with her. She cares deeply about the students. Her evaluation is fair and you can get extra credit for class participation.
Dr. K is a great professor! The lectures are very enjoyable. Many interesting examples. At the end of the course she increased the grades by readjusting course weightings to help students. Times have been tough for everyone and it really helped having a professor who understands what their students are going through.
great professor, funny and kind. very good textbook. attend classes and complete quizzes online and you will get a good grade
This class was okay, the prof doesn't explain the concepts that well, minimal content is posted on lectures and her TA's are very unhelpful. They never respond to emails and if you ask them for help they expect you to figure it out yourself. They are very careless and definitely not TA material. A heavy workload of weekly assignments worth only 2%
Dr. Kopinska is a great professor. She makes herself available to answer questions. She is kind and funny. I don't perform well on the exams and I appreciated all the extra work (iClicker, assignments) that allowed me to get a higher grade than I would if those options were not available.
If u met this professor, take care
NEVER TAKE STATS WITH HER. One of the worst classes
In this course I have discovered that I actually like math. Thank you professor Kopinska! it takes a skill to keep students engage for 3 hours in statistics. Fair grader and lots of extra opportunities to boost the grade.
Professor Kopinska was one of the worst professors Ive ever had. She has tendencys to splurge of disrespectful comments about peoples religious beliefs and does not believe in accommodating those who are fasting even though she set her exam at a time where people need to break their fasts after a full day of not eating or drinking. Disrespectful
I was afraid this will be a boring class but I actually enjoyed it. Dr. Kopinska is a great teacher. She is fair and gives very interesting examples of research.
good person, terrible prof. I did well in her class but it was very hard. she is very unorganized which rubs off on all the students. She does different grading systems than what the syllabus says, 2 days before the final she added a chapter to the exam review. if u ask a question u will be met with an attitude problem and no real response.
Professor Kopinska was very caring and inspirational. The lectures were simple but they were 3 hours long. The exams were neither easy nor hard. There were several assignments but they were usually interesting and easy to do. You can do pretty well on this course if you study enough.
I never rate prof's but this one is a must. Very lecture-based as she encourages clicker and attendance. Her exams are unreasonable and difficult, she added 16% to every student's final grade for the "difficulty level of the exam" as she admits.
I appreciate that the professor made the classes synchronous rather than posting recordings. I enjoyed the class meetings and I learned a lot. Exams are hard but you can earn lots of points by class participation and assignments.
Discipline is important and this teacher maintains one which is nice. But she is inconsiderate of the situations her students are facing right now due to the pandemic. Being an international student, paying so much for these really late at night online classes, she has little sympathy for their problems and is quite hurtful and disrespectful.
I loved this course. It is different from all the other psychology courses. It was focused on animals and environment. I was inspired to change my diet to vegan and I feel great. Dr. Kopinska is kind and she cares deeply about her students.
I love Prof. Kopinska! She is a real sweetheart and cares very much about her students, their success in her class and the planet. She is funny, kind and very knowledgeable. Her PowerPoint slides are interesting and creative, and the required videos were informative, intriguing and sometimes funny. I would definitely take another class with her!
My favourite professor so far. Although lectures do not always follow the textbook the information she shares is related to the topics and very interesting. She provides great examples and clear instructions. A positive individual who is open minded and encourages discussion of topics instead of forcing her own agenda.
absolutely no regard for her students and their circumstances at all. isnt helpful in class at all and relies heavily on iclickers in providing material to students; gives attitude when students do attempt to ask questions about the course in class. also gives late penalties for online exams with absolute no leniency or regard for her students
I have had Kopinska twice. I do NOT recommend her for stats 2022. She barely taught, did iclickers most of class. She is hard to understand and doesnt explain stats, her tests were very hard and she would not bell curve/modify the test even though most the class failed. She can be rude to students. Mindtap & assignments every week plus exams.
This prof is ok. research methods is pretty straightforward. Basically read the textbook or study her lectures and youll be fine. She didnt go into depth about many things that were put on the exam. She has a heavy accent. Also shes not respectful of students or easy to access. She does give you the opportunity to get a good mark in the course.
She has hands-on approach to teaching statistics by using iClicker. Lots of extra opportunities to get extra credits. I appreciate that she took her time conducting the lectures rather than just posting the recordings.
This course has changed my life. Dr. Kopinska is a lovely person and an amazing teacher.
Dr. Kopinska is a great teacher. The lectures are engaging and offer great practice: lots of calculations. You can increase your grade by participation and completing Mindtap quizzes. If you are willing to work hard you can get a good grade.
Dr. Kopinska has her own method of teaching. This course had 2 tests, 4 assignments, iClicker questions for participation (in class) and MindTap. Although there are many opportunities to improve your grade, you need to stay on top of the material. She is nice but sometimes she can be rude in her tone. Just be on her good side and do your work.
Kopinska spends a large portion of her lecture time talking about whatever she wants and showing us many videos. She is passionate and engaging but her tests can be difficult so make sure you stay on top of readings and videos.
Professor Kopinska is such a hilarious professor. Although her lectures could get boring as she would talk about random stuff for the majority and quickly go over the materials at the end of lectures. Sometimes she was mean to some students which I thought was not fair at all. You should study hard for tests and participate in each class.
Kopinska is honestly such an amazing professor. Her tests are for sure on the more difficult side and require studying at least 2 weeks in advance to ensure a good grade. Professor Kopinska really knows how to connect to a class of 50+ students which is a really difficult thing that not many can achieve. Dfinitely consider taking one of her classes
1) Awful slides 2) Awful lectures 3) Rude and disrespectful
This course radically changed my perspective on the study of psychology as a whole since this professor facilitated my understanding of the various concepts introduced in this course with having to apply them to typical situations in life. Honestly, I cherished the experience I shared with this professor, and was honoured to be her student.
Although she was boring in her lectures from time to time, she was showing her care for students, she was always trying to show us different aspects of psychology, tests was a bit hard but not too much, if you study from mind tap and textbook together you will be fine!! I would take class again from her
Lectures and slides are very useless, she doesn't go over material very clearly. Keeps talking about useless things during lecture and wastes time on iclickers. For tests, just study the textbook and go.
This prof is amazing, she makes the material easier by giving lecture notes.
Breakdown: Midterm exam (33%), final exam (33%), weekly assignments (18%), iClicker (optional) (16%). Class is not mandatory unless you want clarification on things or want iclicker points. You have to get 100% on iclicker to get the full 16%. Otherwise, it will go towards your exams. Assignments are weekly reflections on videos.
She's funny. She'll also (usually) do "anything for you" if you just ask. But she tends to spend a lot of time on certain slides/topics though and goes overtime. This is generally b/c of unneeded student questions. iclickers are generally activities to help you understand the material but sometimes they're graded test questions (multiple choice)
We just did our 1st exam & this prof is great! She didn't make it unfair or too hard. It was reasonable & fair if u studied. The exam was mainly based on the textbook so make sure u know all key terms, models, & concepts. Watch all videos she links on eclass (esp ted talks & the docu). Go to lectures! Get iclicker points & memorize questions!
Her lectures are kind of a mess. They go very slow & then go very fast near the time when our class is supposed to end (like the last 1 hr to 30 mins). Her intentions are good tho. She just wants to answer all questions & really teach us the material & have us understand everything. The class avg for exam 1 = 80%, median = 83%, mode = 86%, SD = 11%
The final exam was not nearly as good as the first exam. The questions were long, tricky, and specific. Ran out of time unfortunately. Make sure u have enough time to study! Understand all textbook material that is tested, watch all the videos, know the answers to the iclickers, watch all lectures. Make sure you finish all the exam questions!
Unclear, unorganized lecs - goes on tangents and overtime (esp for 3 hr lec) even the TAs taught better. Not respectful of ur time, class was meant to be async but made it sync at 6-9 pm. Participation matters or it goes towards final exam. ridiculous exams. BUNCH of LONG 1h videos that end up on exams. Roughly 65 questions for 60 mins on exam.
Overall Professor Kopinska cares about her students and wants them to do well. She provides diverse opportunities to achieve marks (iclicker, weekly assignments, exams). Her lectures could be more concise but if you stay on top of the readings and do the work, this will be your least stressful class.
She really cares about her students and wants them to do well. The last exam did not go well for many and we were compensated for this. If you are studying for the final exam or any exam, make sure to do practice questions instead of just studying definitions. Exams are about applying concepts and other things you have learned.
this is acc the worst prof ive had at York u. her lectures are long and boring and she barely covers the material. she just talks about random stuff for 3 h straight and then you're on your own for the tests. she's super rude and condescending. For the tests, watch the videos and read the textbook cause her slides r useless.
Dr. Kopinska is an extraordinary professor and person. This course has changed my life. She is kind, understanding and generous with grading.
A fair warning! I never wrote a rating review about any professor. But this time I have to. Forget about learning anything from her. It's not an option. You will be sitting in her class for three hours wondering what she is talking about and why the university allows such confusion of total nonsense with what is supposed to be academic lectures.
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from such an inspiring individual. Lots of videos to watch but they are very interesting.
Amazing lecture. Lots of reading, she grades very fairly. Lots of reading but if you can manage it should be an easy A.
Prof Kopinska is probably the best prof I'll ever get. In terms of content is can convey the material very efficiently, her exams were more than fair, and she gives almost too many opportunities for you to increase your mark! As a person she is an extraordinary person and touched many of her students, helping them far beyond academics.
Terrible teacher. She should have retired a long time ago.
Spent an hour talking about how we need to pay 100 bucks for an online course or we will fail her class. Went to pay the 100 dollars. You don't even get a pdf of the textbook, you get ACCESS to the horrible online version for 12 months, and you can download 10 pages at a time.
Her teaching style is a bit different but aims to be as engaging as possible. Be aware that the course is weighted very heavily on two exams (36% & 36%), plus some video assignments where you make MC questions, and iClicker which is "optional" meaning the more you attend and participate, the less heavily weighted the exams will be on your grade.
Honestly do not understand why she does not have a 5 out of 5 rating. Her lectures were vary engaging and grading was as lenient as possible. The assignment were very straightforward and marked lightly. The attendance was optional. Exams were weighted heavy but I found them super easy and fair. Would definitely take this class with her again.
Lectures dont relate much to exams. Assigns 1hr long videos that are on the tests. VERY against technology use in class, she will pick on students using cellphones in class. Wont acknowledge technical difficulties with the iclickers that account for 14% of the mark.
The content of the course is not hard, and if you do the textbook readings before her lectures, you will be fine throughout the course. However, know that you will be relying on the textbook to do the teaching. Your total grade is only based on 2 exams, and, if u choose to pay, a quiz platform. Not a good reviewer, take only if good at self study.
She is such an amazing person. She does go off of the lecture topics occasionally but it is always worth it and relevant. If you just want a quick and easy grade then you'll probably struggle a bit. If you genuinely love what you are studying then she will be the most amazing professor. Assignments were very easy and tests were fair.
Most incredible professor I've ever met in all my years here. Dr. Kopinska is a profound individual who will teach you more about life than anything anyone ever taught you before. All of her lectures are engaging and hilarious, and she has a truly brilliant mind, a kind heart, and a wonderful soul. Cannot recommend her enough. Changed my life.
She goes off talking about random stuff like cell phone usage. I have no idea what she was talking about for her 3-hour lectures. She assigns over 1hr long videos on the tests and doesn't tell you what to look for. She also does not address the issues of the clickers. Her lectures are a mess, please avoid this class.
The lectures were great space to interactive learning and grasping whole lot of information. Clear grading criteria
Dr.Kopinska is an inspiring professor who values engagement and attention in her students. Exams were fair and assignments were not difficult. Her assignments encourage a full understanding of the material though she is generous in her marking. I have never been so inspired by a professor not only re: psychology but about life, health and wellness
This woman will make you start to hate yourself and make going to school something to hate
Incredible lectures and insight. Addresses root cause issues often not spoken about. Provides practical solutions that students can use to perform better in school and life. Highly recommend, best prof at york hands down. PS. I believe the bad ratings are just students who are mad she wont let you doom scroll on your phone in class
She is the definition of an old-fashioned prof. Only two exams, and they are by no means easy. You gotta memorize the course content and the videos, which can be long. The iClicker grade is "optional" but the less you do it, the more your grade is weighed on the exams. Personally, I'm not a fan of her style, but I know some people who enjoyed her.
I originally really enjoyed this prof as she was odd. But once I asked her for a reference... omg she was so rude and demeaning. Completely changed my outlook on her. I think I only did well because of the TA's. Very weird woman.
Great professor. lecture material follows the slides. Cares for strudents
So disorganized. I have never had a similar bad experience with any other profs. lectures are posted very late knowing the course is very fast paced. information posted regarding the exams are different in each post.
I have never rated a prof in my academic career but I had to for this instance. I took her for psych 2260 and she was odd but taught the course good. When it comes to psych 1010... I would recommend anyone else but her. Our recent exam average is 55%, blames it on students but not her teaching methods. Rambles in recorded lectures. Avoid her.
She's cool and weird and she puts astrology on tests. Thumbs up for this prof
Dr. Kopinska is quite thorough at conveying the content of the course, however, she inserts her personal opinion into everything. She is very against medication and generally believes that if you have mental issues you should just meditate. Meditation has it's purposes, but a professor should not be stigmatizing medication. I have walked out before
Consistently posts slides very late, sometimes only days before tests. Exams often focus on trivial details (e.g., “What did the speaker say at the start of the video?”) instead of core course content. Low class averages are blamed on students rather than considering teaching or assessment methods. AVOID HER.
Our first-ever midterm class average was 55% for an introductory course, and the instructor blamed it on her students “not studying enough.” She posts lecture materials very late, assigns many videos to watch, and tests heavily on them in exams. Overall, the course felt poorly organized. Avoid this professor if possible.
Very sweet and inspiring. Lectures are long (watched at 1.5x). Some say she uses too many TED Talks, but they're always relevant and add perspective. Assignments every week or so, fair exams and manageable workload. Assigned videos appear on exams, but you only need to understand the big picture. Make sure to watch them. Got an A with no crazy work
The biggest gripe I have with Dr. Kopinska is how dependent she is on Ted Talks/documentaries to teach. Much of the test content is based on youtube videos you're required to watch, they typically span from 20min to an hour, much of which are irrelevant to the central course topic. The test questions are based on random details about said video
Professor is very kind and respectful. The course I took was in summer and it was asynchronous (completely online lectures, no attendance). The tests had one thing that you need to look out for, the videos that she posts, you have to really know them. Watch them more than once. Otherwise, just read the slides and watch lectures. I recommend her!
You'll want to get serious for Kopinska's class. She's a lot of fun, incredibly helpful and passionate about what she does, but she'll expect the same from you. Avoid using your phone, pay attention to formulas, and do every single iClicker and Mindtap activity you can. I took it alongside 6 other courses last sem, and it was hard but rewarding.
Avoid her if you can. She likes to pick on students. It was the first day of class today and I'm already looking at other courses to take. You cannot eat or drink any beverage in her class. Talks about everything and anything except the course content.
