Good teacher. Do as he asks and there is no question you'll get a good grade and learn the material.
He is a good teacher. He gives you a review before the test, and his exams are not too bad. He explains well and is very helpful to his students. Made Econ intersting. Not too much reading throughout the semester. Must take for students who want to learn. Not an easy class.
good prof and tries to be very helpful. i just had no interest in the subject matter. reviews for exams are very helpful.
really helps out students. it is a hard class to begin with but he teaches it great.
THE BEST TEACHER !! TAKE HIM... HE IS NOT HARD NOR EASY!! BUT HE IS GOOD TEACHER :)
Difficult class, really hard to teach yourself the material. Teacher is good and helpful, but doesnt log on to class enough to help students in a timely manner. He is also really careless about numbering the chapters right, like you never know what the quiz is supposed to be over.
THIS GUY DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH. ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE TAKEN HIS ONLINE MACROECONOMICS COURSE HAVE DROPPED IT DUE TO HIS TERRIBLE TEACHING SKILLS. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE SMART!
Hes the BOMBBB !! if you going to take his class, please prepare news paper,or a PSP with you, because hes class is too boring and hes kept on saying how many Millionaires was his student
This professor,I use the term professor loosely, very loosely, had been aloof, evasive, nonresponsive, inconsistent w/our exams&quizzes, etc. Now I see why his class had so many opening when I registered for the course. Those seeking 2 have a meaningful experience–not in this class-I will be takng an econ course nxt sem&I will chk this site before
He is the best teacher u will ever get very helpful and easy. lecutres are so clear TAKE HIM
He is not the most organized when it comes to his online courses. I got an A, but I have to admit it was really hard. The course consists of 6 threads, 6 quizzes (drops the lowest 2) and 3 exams. You have to read the book, don't bother with his online presentations. The student discussion forums were VERY helpful!
I took this class online - the professor was short, rarely available and i doubt he read all of the discussion question answers. evasive, aloof, and you must receive 400 out of 420 points (or a 95% overall) to receive an A in his class. maybe he's different in a live class format, but i would not recommend his online class.

I took this guy's online econ 2 class. I would have to agree with what everyone is saying. The lectures are not clear. There is some powerpoint stuff avaliable but it does not clarify anything. You have to study the book and know it inside and out. I studied hard everyday and read everything. I got a 97% in the class but I spent 3+ hours a day!!!
Not as bad as everyone says. It's just a difficult subject. He is very understanding and nice.
i took his online class and it was great.. tests were not hard and i learned alot from his notes.. he has good powerpoint notes and all.. trust me on this..i failed econ 1 twice and finally passed with his online class! he was helpful and he emails you if anything goes wrong.. take him! you'll like it =] i wish i could take him for econ 2
This teacher seems to be a toss up - the Econ 2 class I took was great, fairly straight-forward. Econ 1 was trouble, though. A bunch of students dropped the course because the tests were not covering the assigned material, and many people were bombing the quizzes because of this. Meanwhile, the response from the professor was close to nada.
I took the online class with this professor. He was terrible. I love economics and he alomost made me loath it. He was very disorganized. He did not test on the material. If you did not have the "optional" textbook it was near impossible to do well on the exams. I do not recommend him at all.
STAY AWAY - DO NOT RECOMMEND. The "quizzes" were all over the place in the book (which was not even mandatory). His email responses were not at all helpful and very standard (copy/paste). Initially looks like a fun/easy class but be warned. As others have mentioned above, MANY dropped the class.

This was my first class at SMC a while back. I set the curve on the first test... 100%. Got a B on the second test. Somehow I ended up with a D in the class and had to retake it. Don't take this prof unless you enjoy getting your grade picked out of a hat.
I took his 8 week online class, and I thought it was super easy. There are 6 discussions, which if you do them and put some effort into them, you will get full credit. There are 6 quizzes, one of which is extra credit. Not difficult to get an A. I would take him again.
I just dropped his online class for several reasons. After carefully perusing his syllabus and having some discourse with him, his tactics, rudeness, disorganization, and childishness I had to drop Econ 1. After accusing me of not reading his syllabus I set him straight about him being completely wrong about erroneous and inconsistent instructions
the reviews are all right... he is very cold (even though it's an online class). but here's the bottom line: it's a short course, you teach yourself the material, the textbook is heavily used. if you dedicate a few hours out of your time a week to the reading and weekly discussion (very easy), you will get an A guaranteed.
If you do the readings, participate in the discussions, and take the quizzes each week, then you will have no problem getting a good grade in this class. This professor is understanding and communicative and wants you to do well. I took him for Econ 1 - Micro and liked him so much that I enrolled in his Econ 2 - Macro class as well.
Personally I had no problems with the class I could see how some of the people have though. He might not be around as much as he should have been and possibly should have participated in the discussions. However he did what he stated on the syllabus, which if you didn't like that you should have left when you read it. A+ for my grade.
Straight-forward class, great textbook. Quizzes were doable, 50 qu's each so if u mess up on a few ur still good. Easy online discussions, I missed a deadline once, so I emailed him & he extended the deadline which was super nice! Keep in mind he uses an old edition of the textbook so some chapter #s are off (just follow the syllabus). I got an A.
I took his online Econ2 course in the summer. Straight-forward class. Follow syllabus and youll be okay. 6 quizzes (50 Q EACH usually cover 3 chapter) lowest one dropped. Test difficutly average, but do have to read. 6 homeworks...cake! Also, respond to other students postings. Prof. no communication though. However, syllabus will keep you updated.
I am taking the last quiz for the 8 week online course this week. A monkey at a desk could do this professor's job since he doesn't actually read anything you submit. I'm sure he just checks your name off and gives you points. Easy, easy A but be ready for a headache since he doesn't respond to e-mails until the night before the assignment is due.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH AT ALL. HE SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING ONLINE CLASSES.BAD COMMUNICATION SKILLS
this guy so funny, he always say hes the best, if you are truly the best why do you have to remind us of it? we would know that you are!! that's all i gotta say about the class lol.
i took him for online class and his is soo easy his test are peice of cake . take him if u can
He's okay if you aren't serious about economics and are looking for an easy A. He can be pretty useless at times, and remember that his word is law, no room for compromise with him. His accent also doesn't help. He is a passionate Econ prof.
Dr. Rahman really knows his economics. He would joke around at times, making the class fun. It was a winter course and he moved rather quickly and at times it was a little confusing, but I was able to get the general idea. He made time available outside of class if students needed it. He speaks with a slight accent but he wasn't hard to understand.
I had an easy time with this class. Really enjoyed it and he's a great guy. Never had trouble with the tests. Took ECON1 at my college and knew the first few weeks because that was was much harder. Transferring credits was tough for some reason.
Dude has a pretty heavy accent. Teaches right out of the book. Gave us a bonus exam for extra credit which was huge. Just memorize definitions and charts from the text a couple nights before and ull b fine. HW assignments easy 10/10's too. Overall easy A/B.
Dr. Rahman is a great guy, but he can't teach. Coming to class was pretty much useless. I had to put many hours at home with the book to understand what he was talking about. He is trying to be helpful; he is really a great guy, but he can't communicate key concepts at all. it's a big unclear mess. Try to avoid
The worst professor I've ever had! Not helpful, rude, and makes the class really difficult. I would not recommend taking him.
he made the class really easy. If you take this class for GE you should take his class. But if you take his class for your major I don't recommand him. You can't really learn from him you need to study at home on your own
I love him!!! I don't understand some of the comments listed below:( I know his accents are a bit hard to understand sometimes but it was pretty easy for me to understand him even though i am an international student. If you pay attention during the class and attend the class properly, you can get an A for sure like me!!!:) I loved him so much!!!
This professor genuinely cares about the success of his students. The classes mainly consisted of lectures. Quizzes covered 3 chapters. I studied an avg. amount and got an A. We covered about 18 chapters so we had 6 quizzes total. He gave ample time for questions; attendance was not mandatory; also, very smart, funny professor. Def. recommend!
He's not perfect at teaching, but he does like economics, so go to class, take notes, and the biggest secret that got me the A is that after reading the chapters, DO THE STUDY GUIDES from the MyEcon website! It helped tremendously during test time. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this, but that will make sure you pass.
Take this class if you want an easy A! He's a really nice guy. Always says he's on your side which is true. He gave us bonus points on some tests and even let us take the last test and work on it at home so we could improve our grade. I highly recommend reading the textbook THOROUGHLY because some of the test questions can get pretty specific.
You must read the book in order to get an A. Took during the summer relatively easy homework once or twice a week. Do the my Econ website study guides in order to get high grades on multiple choice essays. He is very clear when explaining the lectures though his accent may make it harder but it is not a major problem when understanding the lecture
Cares about students a lot. Willing to help if you're willing to learn. Do MyEcon study guides online. Great professor, loves economics, just requires the intent to actually learn and study.
Recommend! Professor Ahmad cares about all his students very much. He’s willing to answer any question and would like to help students to success the class. The class has total 6 quizzes and each quiz coves 3 chapters. He also gives assignments as extra credit. He’s very intelligent, funny, and always smiling. Will take his Econ2 next semester!!
I completed his macroeconomics class this semester. I earned an A. He's a nice guy, but sometimes he doesn't answer questions well. He can be a little rude sometimes. His class wasn't too difficult for the most part, but those tests of his asked some absurdly specific questions that were very difficult to answer. Overall, I wouldn't recommend.
easy class. his power point for notes are literally the book in power point form so you still get the book even if you don't buy it. theres an extra credit test thats mandatory to take so it helps your grade in the end.
I loved Professor Rahman! He was so nice and funny. Always had a smile on his face. I would definitely recommend his class. He is always willing to help, gave 6 quizzes and 6 homework's, one is an extra credit quiz to help grades go up at the end of the semester. Take him, he's amazing.
Tests are all m/c but they are extremely hard & tricky. He only teaches you from power points which are taken from the textbook the whole semester. It's boring, he never gives full credit for hw, & you have to read the textbook word for a word repeatedly in order to succeed. Offers to help, but does it in an unclear and careless fashion. Stay away!
DONT DO IT PLEASE DONT DO IT !
Spring 2014 - This professor is genuinely a great guy, very helpful. Just note, you have to READ the textbook. Every single page if you want an A, which is what I did. Essentially, if you understand the textbook you understand his tests. The class was fairly easy in the beginning but his last 2 exams were ludicrously hard. He curves the grade.
He is a great person.. His lectures are clear for the most part. Nonetheless, his tests (he calls them quizzes) are a bit hard... be prepared to read the textbook!!!! I passed the class but it was definitely not easy.
Might seem a little mean, but he genuinely cares about his students and wishes that they all succeed. The quizzes were tough. Especially the last two, but he curved those. For majors related to economics, I highly recommend this class. Got an A.
His Economics 2 during winter had 5 x 50-point-Exams (he calls them quizzes) and 1 x 50-point extra credit exam and 6 x 10-point homeworks. All you need is 280 pts out of 360 pts possible for an A. Get ready to read the textbook and the powerpoint slides. His "lecture" is going over the slides in class. He does not use the whiteboard so good luck.
Gives out only test! Some h.w assignments and you must read the book and understand lecture in order to pass
Ok so here's the REAL review of this guy. Not a good teacher at all Only lectures, which is the PowerPoint slides, which is also the textbook in PowerPoint format. All "quizzes" are actually the tests. 50 questions, all m/c. But they're hard and tricky. He gives 9/10 on hw no matter what because he doesn't actually grade them. He's rude
The quizzes are hard but graded so that you get the points from six tests but they're divided as if there were only five so you need only get Bs on each quiz to get an A in the class. He doesn't give 10 on homework. He's helpful in office hours but otherwise inaccessible. You have to show up to know what the assignments are and when tests are.
At the beginning he seems confusing and unprepared, but later you will see that he genuinely cares about his student and will always help. Curves grades and if you will go to his office hours will be very helpful! Just show you are interest, don't miss class and read a book thoroughly and you will pass the class)
Okay, with reading some of his review before the semester I decided to take his class. It's very unclear between what he goes over in class and what is actually on the "quizzes". They are m/c but everyone has red on their scantrons. Everyone gets 9/10 on homework. And he is never in his office hours. I'm half way through his class and annoyed.
Professor Abdel-Rahman cares about his students and makes sure that everyone understands the material. He relates the material to current events. The classes are ONLY LECTURES and are based on the book. He has one extra credit test, which really helps raise your grade. I took him for Econ 1 and 2; I got A's in both and learned a lot. Take him!
Great Professor. Go to his office hours and you can see that he cares for his students. He has a very clear grading criteria. 5 quizzes and the 6th one is extra credit. Homework is done for every 3 chapters that we go through. Lectures are based on the chapters and is presented by ppts.
Profess Abdel-Rahman is a good teacher in my opinion. The lectures are fast so you need to study a lot outside of class to understand the chapters. Exams are not extremely hard but you need to know the content.
"I'm not here to make your life miserable" Well you are! Grades super slow for homework, and expect to write 1500 words each time. The exams are more like English test, where the terms of the questions are changed because he takes it from a different book than what we study. He doesn't even understand the wording himself when asked, unbelievable.
I really regret taking this course with this professor... Everyone's grades on exams look worse than the economy in 2008... Not a fun time, but if you like leaving class 20-30 minutes early every day, he's your guy.
I had to drop this class because there was no way I could pass this class. I studied literally sooo much for every test, and there was test every third week. Although I studied everything in the text book, he made tricky questions that nobody understood. Literally, super hard, super strict, really boring lessons. It felt like a class from the 1920s
Anyone who takes this class and doesn't get an A shouldn't pursue a career in econ anyway. Teacher is chill and just lectures and gives some tests. 6 Tests and 6 Homework assignments in the year with your lowest test dropped. Just study and you should do well.
willing to work with you
Study for the tests and read the book at home, and you should be fine. homework is a little long but for the most part he doesn't read it and gives you 100 on every assignment. 5 tests multiple choice (50 questions) read questions carefully.
His lectures are boring and you have to read a lot. I would not take econ with him again.
Very hard to understand his material, and assigns too much work.
If you show him you truly care about your grade he will help you! super Nice teacher just wants everyone to pass but get ready to read!!
He is one of the best professors that i had at SMC. loves his students and care about their future, if you show him that you care and you trying he will give you more chances to improve your grade. he treats his students as if they are his own children. would highly recommend him. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR AND IGNORE THE NAYSAYERS.
Where do I even start, he is terrible at best. He assigns a lot of HW and barely offers any help if not any. Get ready to read from the textbook a lot and expect 50 question quizzes that are double of any of the work that you do in the class. Enjoy!
Stay away. Was hospitalized for three days after a bad accident, sent in all proper documentation, Professor didn't believe me and told me to not contact him again. Someone like this should not be teaching at ANY institution. The class itself was relatively straightforward, but you absolutely have to teach yourself and it is completely hands-off.
loved his lectures. Had to write 15 three page essays based on lectures + readings and complete 15 discussions. One per week. Inspired me to read further on material and explore more information. Love his energy. Flexible. Understanding and will help you pass if you are struggling.
He doesn't know how to use canvas. The only way for us to "learn" is through the textbook, and all he really does is give homework and tests. Tests are an hour long with 50 questions. REALLY weird testing schedule too. No point in taking this class if he ain't gonna teach, its just a waste of money imho. Overall the worst econ teacher I've had.
One of the worst professors at Santa Monica College. He does not provide any feedback on the 16 essays you will have to type over the semester. Randomly gives out grades and does not communicate well with his students. The syllabus is absolute garbage, does not explain what is due each week and when you ask him he runs in circles with his answer.
Lazy and sloppy. Avoid this guy.
This professor did not teach a single thing last semester. He only uploaded 30 minutes voice recording from zoom meetings which were just reading words from text book. Entire course is about writing essays but he won't tell you why points are desucted, which made me get 4.5/5 or less for almost every essay. You will feel your tuition fee is wasted.
For the 8-week class: Assigns 15 3-page papers, gives you a Mystery Grade (1-5) on each with no feedback, plus two 1-point discussions per week. Also posts short recorded lectures. Do you want to write 50 pages for a 3-credit class in 8 weeks cause the professor can't be bothered to create other course content? Yea, me neither.
I have yet to ever taken a class like this one, where you're assigned 16 essays in an 8 week class, if you want to write 50 pages for one class then by all means. English classes I've taken never required this amount of writing. You teach yourself, no direction, no feedback, insanely stressful, especially if you have a job. Had to drop the class.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. The lectures were prerecorded and all over the place, and they were the only provided content other than textbooks. Be prepared to teach yourself everything and to write an absurd amount of papers in just 8 weeks. The rubric for papers is confusing and unforgiving, and prof gives NO FEEDBACK!
This professor have online class sessions from previous classes saved and keep uploading them for every week. They arent not the best to understand in anyway. Most importantly at the end of the class whatever the grade says on your canvas wont be your final grade. It sad my GPA went down because of his Mistry evaluation
The class is not necessarily easy but it is not hard either. The class is basically writing 2 essays a week. The essays are easy to pass but hard to get an A on. If you're not good at writing essays then I don't recommend the class just because those are the only assignments to do.
Honestly, if you're taking this class for credit and don't care about learning, then this professor is perfect for you. You can find all the answers for every assignment online. Just make sure to get a good grade on the first assignments because he'll give you the same exact grade for the rest.
Took this class over the Winter, so obviously, lots of work. There were 15 3-4 page essays and discussions. 100% sure they don't read the essays/discussions closely. Just address all of the questions and properly format them as on his syllabus. No feedback besides on MLA formatting. Not a hard A by any means though, but nail biting.
I just finished my first week with professor Abdel-Rahman and... wow. I have never been more confused whilst taking a class. Everything in his syllabus sounds as if it was AI generated, or like it was just copied and pasted from google or another document. Worst of all, with no feedback given whatsoever, he assigns you write 2 essays a week.
As an online course, I would have to say I loved it. Clear assignments posted and grades on time, as well as pretty good communication skills
First, a word on ESL. If you teach in this country, then your English needs to be reasonably fluent. Also, if you assign textbook chapters for homework, at least make sure the chapters correspond to the textbook for the course you are teaching. I understand this is adjunct faculty, but even students know when OpenAI created your entire lesson plan.
Too many essays to write with an unclear rubric. You might think you answered all the questions for the essay but maybe missed a minor point and get docked points for. Very little support/teaching. Feedback is not helpful, if you even get any. Be ready to read about three books in 8 weeks while writing a 3-page essay per week.
The course requires you to write 3-page essays weekly. While using 2/3 specific books is listed as optional, it's strongly expected because they are referenced for the essay topics, making it difficult to complete assignments without them. Beware that even if you address all main points, points may still be deducted for missing small details.
beyond terrible, do not waste your time
He releases assignments one at a time, a couple of days before their due date - as such it is impossible to anticipate when your next homework assignment will be due. Canvas page is unorganized and difficult to navigate. Lectures are hard to follow. Reasonable workload.
