He's one of my favorite history teachers ever. He actually took the time to make it interesting. I highly recommend his classes

Great speaker. I took his class in summer school over 4 weeks, and I still looked forward to going to his class. Just take notes, and read as much as possible. You will really learn something worth while.

Great guy, Great professor. Yazdi does a good job teaching and presenting material, but you still have to study and prepare for tests. Bottom line = Great Professor!
Totally awesome professor! Brings fun back into the classroom with his review games. His tests are hella difficult however but if you take notes, get involved, and read the book, it'll be worth the while and the grade.
This man loves HISTORY. Its entertaining to see how much passion he has for it. He is an incredible speaker and makes it fun. Tests are difficult, but you just have to study. I made B's in 1 and 2.
Great Lecture teacher with lots of energy.
Really great teacher.
Mr. Yazdi is a GREAT teacher. He absolutely loves history and makes you love it just as much. I throughly enjoyed and looked foward to going to his class every day that I had it. He knew the material, knew how to explain it and kept you very involved in the daily lecture. Every student should be made to take a class from him.
Very straight forward with info, review games are helpful. Be detail orientated, I got by without reading the book for the last 2 tests. Great professor but if I didnt have to take the class for my major I wouldnt have known who he was.
GREAT TEACHER even at 8am summer class!!!(This was wciv I)
Ditto, he's a good teacher. Pay attention, try to take good notes. I suggest writing down the OUTLINES (this will practically answer the essay questions for you). Lectures are lively. He may mention plenty of films and point out their historical inacuracy which is a laugh. Great class.
excellent professor if you dont like history take Yazdi he makes it fun!!! extremely helpful
Excellent professor very enthusiastic displays a wonderful passion for what he does he makes history fascinating his tests are difficult but he grades fair also really cares for his students and their success everyone should take at least one of his classes I cant say enough about him EXCELLENT!!!!!
He is a great teacher as long as you take his notes and pay attenttion in class you will do well on his tests. The tests are extremely hard if you do not pay attention or miss alot of days
Awesome professor always there to help and very understanding classes are fun and interesting he tells a story and is very enthusiastic about what he does you gotta have him at least once
He loves this material,ALL of it. Though he is eager to teach you every detail, a study guide is provided to prep you for tests. Often he uses multi-medias to illustrate the lecture maps, video clips, art and such. DO NOT miss class or come in late. It is impossible to make sense of his notes if you come in late bc there are chaotic! Quizzes daily.
DO NOT COME IN EXPECTING AN EASY A!!! Attendance is taken daily, quizes often, but an enthusiastic professor and passionate about teaching history!
He was a wonderful teacher! Very enthusiastic about history! He makes everything so interesting. Just take detailed notes. Everything he mentions in lecture will show up on a quiz or test at some point.
Awesome professor, one at this school I will actually call a professor, he loves what he teaches and makes it interesting. Not easy but you will learn alot from him.
Good lecturer but quizzes way too much for a college class.
One of the most amazing teachers at Pellissippi for Western Civilization. Highly recommended.
He teaches in a simple direct way that keeps your attention. Write down as much as you can during lectures and you'll get an easy A or B if you study before the quizes/tests, which he announces will be the next class period. So don't miss his class lol.
Granted he's a great guy, I studied hard for his exams and managed to fail the first, which is half the grade, and made a D in the class. you dont need the textbook, and he grades really strange. also, be prepared to write shi*loads for 2 essays that count as half the 2 exams you take. not good for those who are bad at history!! LIKE ME!
Prof. Yazdi is awesome! He may be responsible for a change in my major/future line of work.
Very knowledgeable and has an obvious love of teaching, makes for great lectures. Do not come in expecting an easy class, he gives 4 quizzes (not based on lectures) and two unit exams that include in-class essays and definitions. NO grades otherwise. Make sure to pay attention to lectures, read and be prepared to study!
great prof. 2 exams are hard but he makes u feel at ease & he always tries to give U the best grade he can He is very fair Make sure U go to class & do all ur work & u will be fine I made sure that I worked my other classes around his class so I could have him for next semester He really makes school enjoyable & I may change my major bcz of him
Great professor I made sure to get him next semester. Work is hard but he is fair make sure to come to class and do your work he makes school enjoyable
Great Teacher
I had both Western Civ. I and II with Prof. Yazdi. First of all, the class DOES require a lot of studying for the tests if you want to make a B or an A. There are 4 quizes over the semester, and two exams. One good thing is he doesn't require any essays, except an extra credit essay. I got a B/A in West. Civ I/II. GREAT professor.
AWSOME TEACHER!!! I highly recommend him as a professor. He is very cordial and polite, very easy and interesting to talk to. I enjoyed every minute of his classes. He teaches with a great deal of inthusiasm making the class much more enjoyable. You will have to write alot for the essays but if you prepare and listen in class you will do fine.
It is a ton of work and you have to take a ton of notes. The quizzes aren't that bad - only 1 or 2 questions (of 25) are from the book and not from his notes. Tests are short answer (paragraph to a page) and one essay. He is a pretty straightforward professor, but the subject in general is hard for me.
His wife was full-term and due any moment during the first Summer session. Needless to say, the first of only two exams were never graded prior to our final. We went into it COMPLETELY blind, that was extremely frustrating. I hope, but I doubt he grades on a curve. He is a very nice guy but I would never take him again.
I took him for Euro' Hist. His class is crafted to flow for any student, history buff or base novice. Try Hist' 262 or something else at UT and you'll be soooo happy you took it at PSTCC with Yazdi. It's nice having a REAL instructor instead of dealing with overworked underpaid TA's. Yazdi's a crisp, fluent lecturer. You'll like his class.
Good teacher, history is boring, and his class is very bearable. Quizzes are a little tricky, so studyyy. He is very into his history, so beware about the amount of time you should prepare for his exams, especially definitions! He is very nice and will help you with anything. I am taking him again for my next history.
Excellent lecturer but takes forever to grade exams. If you don't mind 4 page essay exams and not knowing whether or not your even passing until after taking your final then take him. I managed to score a 91 on midterm without even cracking the textbook.
Great great teacher, he really loves history and you can tell by listening to him. He is willing to help students out who ASK for it. He trys to have a fun class with a lot of dry humor. I tell all of my friends to have him as a teacher if you want history. The only bad thing are the 4 exams and 2 quizes if you fail an exam you better aces the rest
Great teacher. Hard as hell essay tests. I learned a ton though! Also if u r absent after 3 classes he deducts 5 points from your final grade.
Awesome teacher. Great discussion style lecture. Slide outlines but notes were not on slide. Had to follow lecture but he made it very interesting. His 4 quizzes were a breeze. His two tests were hard but he didn't grade the essay parts harshly. Pulled a pretty easy B+.
Western Civ II. Fun & dynamic teacher. Didn't get mid term grades until a week before final. Need 92% or better for an A and he's a tough grader. Miss class and you'll fail. Go to class, take solid notes and you won't need to buy the book! No homework other than extra credit assignments. If you're a solid student, you'll enjoy his class
Had him for West Civ I. Was a hilarious guy, with a dry sense of humor! The exams are probably brutal if you didn't pay attention, but he makes the class really interesting, even if you hate history like myself.
Great teacher. Lectures through slides. Follow along and jot down facts he throws out. 4 multiple choice 25 question quizzes. 2 tests. tests are broken up into two days with one day being for an essay that he expects to be 4 pages in less than 50 minutes. little rough but he gives a selection of essay questions ahead of time for you to study
A great teacher who makes it interesting. The only problem that I had with him was the four page essay that he gives you. It has to be exactly four pages no more or less, but he gives you at least two months to work on it. He is happy to answer any questions and never makes you feel stupid. And stays after class to answer questions as well.
Great teacher. Keeps you interested in the material but try not to miss any classes!
He was knowledgeable of the subject he wsa teaching but hard to follow if you are not interested in history. Tests are long and require lots of prep work.
He's the best speaker I've had for a teacher. You can not get bored listening to him! He's a fantastic professor
take his class, easy A
Don't take him by far the most strict teacher EVER! He will not b easy on u! Nearly impossible to make an A. U have to write a frickin 6 page Essay. His tests r horrifying an absolute nightmare . Unhelpful very arrogant and mean. Doesn't make his class fun. He just keeps talking for the whole class period! After class u'd endup with 5-9 pages of notes.
Took him for Western and he was GREAT!!! Fun CLASS just don't make him upset. But he is really fun he has fun facts. SIT IN FRONT!!
Yazdi's class is awesome! He is really nice and makes the class fun. The hardest part is the 7 page essay but compared to my other classes, I prefer it.
You only have 5 grades in the class. You are completely in the blind about your grade. He doesn't even take a grade until after the withdrawal date. I would avoid this teacher. He is too hard to follow.
A good teacher with a harsh grading system.
Professor Yazdi is super interesting and knows his info! He makes an hour seem like minutes. You need to have good writing skills to do well in his class, but if you want to really enjoy history take Yazdi! You won't regret it.
Professor Yazdi is very enthusiastic about history. I had no interest in history before his class, but now I actually like it! He is very helpful and patient, no matter how many questions you have. He does require a 7-page paper but you should expect to work hard in college; if you don't procrastinate, you'll be fine.
Professor Yazdi is definitely one of the best professors I have had at Pellissippi and I highly recommend him to anyone that truly likes history. His lectures are really fascinating and informative! Just pay close attention and TAKE GOOD NOTES and you will do fine. He literally covers everything you will need to know on the test in his lectures.
Yazdi is an amazing teacher. He loves the subject and really make the class love it too. The only down side is the paper, believe me, when he says 7 pages, he means 7 pages.
Prof. Yazdi is an amazing history teacher. His tone and voice are engaging. You do not get bored listening to him. I took another professor for West Civ II, and I regret that I did have him as a prof. He is crystal clear and you know what he expects from you. His class is a lot of work, but I learned so much!
HARDEST teacher I have ever had.. but coolest teacher ive ever had. very interesting course.
The tests are rather hard if you don't study or pay attention, attendance and participation are mandatory, only 2-3 tests though and big paper was at the end of the semester. Don't get much use out of the book, only for the paper and he uses it for tests questions.
Completely strict stickler, more than happy to take points off for tiny details. Still, his policies are very clear and his lectures are excellent.
Yazdi is the professor to take for any history class. His lectures were long but super informative. You only have 2 tests; one being midterm and other being final. Hardest part was writing the 8 page paper, but if you do what he says for it then you'll be fine. If he is available, take his class!!! Highly recommend anyone take him for history cred
A very excellent lecture instructor and informs you very well on the material. Lectures keep you engaged. Only downside is he only offers 2 huge tests and a 8 page paper due at the end of the semester so do well because these are the only grades you get.
Good teacher.
Lectures are long but very interesting. You have two tests and one paper and a few other assignments to contribute toward the final grade. When he says 8 pages of content, he truly means it and will mark off if you go over that or under that. He is very passionate about history which makes him interesting to listen to in lectures.
If you need history credit, you should take his class. He is more enthusiastic about his subject than any other teacher I've had. Take good notes and the tests shouldn't be that bad. Just keep in mind that the 8-page paper counts for half your grade, and you don't know it until the end of the semester.
Come to class, take notes, start your final paper ASAP. you need to write an 8 page paper for this class, its basically a review of all your notes from the semester. He knows alot about history. Great lectures.
I took this class as a summer class and I DO NOT RECOMMEND. It would not be so bad if it wasn't crammed into four weeks, but nevertheless it is a difficult course. He assigns an 8 page paper that is worth half your grade and it is almost impossible to fit in those 8 pages because of how much information he wants included. Overall, great teacher
One of the best professors I've ever had. Go to class, participate and do the work. He's always available to give feedback or clarification.
very passionate in his lectures. knows what he's talking about and he makes it interesting but all you do is listen to lectures. hardly ever have homework but tests are very hard and you should know everything he says. you will spend entire class taking notes. no electronic devices allowed. NEVER touched my book so don't buy it
Professor Yazdi is my favorite professor! He gives long lectures; however, he is passionate about history. So that helps! Also, his voice is so soothing, he could narrate audio books for children. At the beginning of the semester, he assigns an 8 pg essay that must be turned in at the end of the semester. He was very helpful about the essay too.
Professor Yazdi is an amazing professor. Class is mostly lecture, but he makes it very interesting. You can tell he knows his stuff. Assigns a long paper at the beginning which you should start on ASAP. Tests are multiple choice but very difficult. You need to know the lectures and stuff from the book. Tough class but would take again.
Be prepared to write, a lot. He goes fast, but very thorough. His final paper takes a bit of work to finesse, but ask him questions and do not be in a rush to run out the door immediately after class. Listen to other's questions at this time.
Alright listen up. I have never in all my schooling career truly loved listening to a Lecture. I usually zone out and doodle, but the way Yazdi lectures forces you to listen and dive into the lesson. He uses voice inflection and pauses to help you understand what you need to write down and it keeps you at attention. You do what he asks You pass.
This dude knows his stuff. If you want beautifully woven lectures from a professor with the ability to answer any and every question pertaining to history that you could possibly dream up, he's the professor for you. I highly recommend.
A total of 4 assignments 2 tests and one paper. The paper is a comprehensive essay that is based from your notes and textbook; he gives you the whole semester.
I worked my butt off in this class and still received a C. The 7 page paper at the end helps you study for tests, but he's a harsh grader. I took my paper to the writing center and they said it was the best they've seen, yet Yazdi gave me a C... The tests he gives arent over his notes and I take very good notes.
Great teacher. If you can take notes you can pass with an A. All tests are multiple choice. So I'm not sure why anyone thinks he is a "Tough Grader".
2 Tests that are all multiple choice, and 1 paper. That is it. Show up to class every day and take notes. I took both his 1010 and 1020 classes and got A's in both with this strategy. 2 hw assignments total. Very easy just take notes
The class is made up of 2 test and a paper. The paper is 50% of your grade and pretty much determines the grade you get in the class. I did pretty bad on the test but due to the paper ended with a B. Overall his lectures are very intresting and he is a great professor.
Let me clear up what pervious students have posted. You HAVE to have the book ,4x6 note cards. , because every few weeks you will have to submit question for review game before the exam. What this class is made is one BIG eassy of total 13 pages due at the end of the term, 2 small 1-2 page essay , 2 exams. GET READY TO READ 5-8 chapt in each exam.
Very interesting lectures!
Prf Yazdi is a great lecturer, but the first thing you need to do is start on the essay. After every section write a page of the essay, at the end of the semester out it all together.
For a four week western. civ 2 class we had two 50 question exams two short doc. analysis assignments and one eight page paper. I didn't think he is overly tough grader. You do need to show up and take notes to help you write the paper, but his lectures are really good, not dry at all. If it weren't for the big paper I would have loved his class
Yazdi has become a favorite professor. He is clear with his teaching on what you need to know. You take two tests the whole year as cumulative information. Participation in lectures really helps his class because he knows so much, and a lot of his tangents show up on the test as extra credit.
Lots of note taking but little to no homework
Goooooood afternoon folks. If you know you know. But Yazdi is the Goat. Best teacher ever.
If he made an audiobook with just random lectures on historical topics, I would buy it. Great story teller and teacher. I would actively look to see what else he taught if not for the 8 page paper (12 if you could title and outline) due in 2 days as of posting this.
The whole class revolves around showing up, listening, and taking good notes. Study your notes and the tests will be extremely easy. The paper is all about condensing/rewriting your notes.
Yazdi is a great storyteller and is really good at connecting events together in an understandable way. If you want to do well in the class you need to have good note taking skills. He goes through material quickly, so being able to write comprehensive notes is extremely important. Overall I enjoyed the class and would definitely recommend it.
Best. Lecturer. EVER!!!! I sought Professor Yazdi two semesters in a row because i love the way he lectures!! Your paper that you write by the end of the semester is worth half your grade, but you have all semester to work on it, and its not hard to follow his rubric! Tests are VERY hard, though! Make sure you take good notes AND read the text!!!!!
His lecture uploads have been very late almost every time, there are 3 graded things from what I can tell, the midterm, the term paper, and the final. The lectures are the most painful thing to listen to, there's no way to gauge how well you're absorbing the information so the whole class is a shot in the dark.
Im in his HIST2220 class. This is my first semester online and its been hard. Weve had one test, and a paper. THATS IT!! He posts lectures but its late. The paper we have to go got moved back because he has not taught us everything still. We have four topic to finish and the paper is due in a week.
Did not teach. Had to read the entire text book to do the 12 page paper as the final. Does not follow the syllabus.
This class was not bad. it was very material heavy though. I actually learned a lot since the paper required us to watch the lectures. the paper was hard though, as it is insanely hard to fit the whole material into 8-10 pages. I am not sure if i went over the page limit but it was hard. Hes a good teacher though gooood afternoon FOLKS lol
This was last semester, so we were in class for the first half of the semester and transferred to online after spring break. He was late. Every. Single. Day. Not ONCE was he less than 11 minutes late to class. This drove me absolutely mad. Oh, and when it comes to answering emails? Forget about it. I had to contact the dean of the department.
Okay so I have heard that Professor Yazdi is a very good teacher when it comes to in class learning. That being said DO NOT take his class if your semester is still online. He does not teach at all, and you have barely any opportunities to bring up your grade because he gives like 2 tests and a paper.
Im taking this fully online without zoom lectures. He has posted very detailed and great lectures. Although, the class is several weeks in without a single graded assignment. This class is also graded on a comprehensive essay, weekly discussion posts, and two exams. I will come back and update! So far not so good without any grades.
I took professor Yazdi Spring 2020 in face-to-face class. There are few graded assignments, so make them count. All you have to do is pay attention to lecture and read. The biggest hurdle is his end of semester paper, so keep a rough draft as you progress through the semester, updating after each chapter. He's caring and understanding. Read!
I took Western Civ in Spring 2021 as an asynchronous course. The main issue is that there are only 2 tests (400 pts a piece) and ONE 8-10 pg. essay due at the end of the semester. WRITE ONE PAGE WEEKLY, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. Otherwise, we only had weekly DP posts. He is an easy grader, but he DOES NOT respond to emails EVER- so prepare for that!
Prof. Yazdi's asynchronous course should be AVOIDED! His pre-recorded lectures do not offer any substantive information. Yazdi also offers no guidance for tests and is unresponsive if you reach out. Your only real source of information is the textbook, and I think you shouldn't be charged for a teacher who does not teach.
Professor Yazdi was a good teacher but taking him asynchronous was a mistake! If you want to take this class do it in person! The grades consisted of a MAJOR paper 8-10 pages worth 1000 points, 2 tests that affect your grade heavily and weekly discussion posts! He was a good teacher but would definitely recommend him in person! Get ready to read!
Yazdi is impossible to get ahold of. I emailed him multiple times throughout the semester about questions I had and did not get a response. He assigns one essay worth 1000 points, 8-12 pages long. My feedback for the essay was all positive, didn't have any bad feedback & still ended up with a 70. Did not answer my email about why I got that grade.
Listen to me clearly, watch the recorded lectures, voice record them on your phone. Copy this into a word document and YOU WILL DO GREAT. I did not read the textbook at all and I got an A in the class by doing the above. His lectures are very informative and LONG, which is why I started voice recording to save my hand. Start writing the paper early!
Best lecture ive ever attended! You have a 8-10 page paper due at the end that is half of your grade, you can work on it throu out the semester so it is not a big deal if you take good notes during lectures. Review game can seem unfair.7 grade with one being the essay worth 50%
Pure lecture-based class. If you show up for class and take notes, easy pass. Basically no homework, just a vocabulary notecard homework per unit and a final comprehensive essay.
He was recommended to me and fellow students by another teacher. We all enjoyed him and he was one of the BEST professors ever. His lectures were my favorite part of college. He brings an unmatched inspirational passion to his lectures. He was always free to talk about history after class. He cared about history, his class, and your success beyond.
Professor Yazdi helped me during our time together in HIST 2210. When I had a project worth half of my final grade that I couldn't finish on time due to health issues he offered me an extension four days past the final deadline. That meant so much to me as a disabled student who often struggles in college. Todd, if you see this thank you so much.
I loved Professor Yazdi and his lectures were AMAZING. He only grades on a few things (2 exams, 2 sets of review cards, 1 long paper, and attendance), but everything is very doable if you take notes & pay attention in class. He is very hard to get ahold of by email, so if you have questions, ask before/after class or during office hours.
I loved Professor Yazdi. I had a few things going on in life and couldn't always make it to class and he was super understanding and compassionate. AMAZING lectures, very easy to follow and understand. Attendance was a grade in the class so make sure to be there as much as possible. Can be hard to get ahold of thru email, but other that is great!
Takes forever to grade anything. As I type this out I have 50 minutes before I lose access to the course as the semester closes and final grades go in tomorrow. I have still yet to receive a grade for a paper that is worth half of my grade. Once the course closes I will not be able to see the grade for the paper nor will I be able to see feedback
His class is not all that bad, rather, it's pretty easy. The thing that would make me not want to take his class again is the big 10 paper (really more than that or otherwise you get a bad grade) that is HALF of your grade because it is the final. Don't procrastinate or you will be overwhelmed, and he is pretty particular on how it is structured.
Engaging lectures, just pay attention and take good notes. The paper is 50% of the grade, so work on it throughout the semester. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for exam prep!
Ya'll do not listen to the bad reviews. Yazdi is an amazing professor and is always willing to help you if you ask to meet in his office after class. I had him for 2010 and I will be taking his 2220 because I like how minimal homework he gives. The "final" paper he gives out is not hard if you just listen to the lectures and take good notes!
I think Prof Yazd's is great. I took his class in person and his lectures are incredibly detailed, but he goes very fast. you HAVE to listen and take great notes because he does not post the power-points. Super easy class, he's usually about 10-13 minutes late to class, and is super nice and gives good feedback when you ask questions. i made a 103%
