He makes it easy to pass calculus. I've had to retake Calculus 1 because my previous professor only used slides. Whereas, Ali actually TEACHES math. He uses the blackboard to WRITE every step. He applies different techniques to make the solutions clearer. Lab and Homework can get overwhelming, but it helps to bump your grade up. He's amazing.
He gives you a lot of notes (I mean a lot of notes). Usually, the quizzes and tests will have problems and examples straight out of the book, but he will always add on problem that seems to be out of left field that most people will not know how to do.
His lectures pretty much consist of writing definitionstheorems from the book and very few examples are used. The material isn't exactly hard, but working the suggested problems IS A MUST- they are 90% of the quizexam questions. He can be a bit rude at times when it comes to questions and such.
Smart dude. Did rush through some of the material, it was a summer course. This is a class the effort you put in is difference between letter grades. He WILL introduce new concepts and expect you to research independently. Ex: Cal 3 and Linear Algebra concepts were used though they aren't pre-recs. Don't take if you can't put in time. Easy A though
Mr. Ali is a great lecturer. He explains the topics very well and makes calculus 3 easy to understand. I highly recommend him for a math course because he understands that it is not easy, so he tries his best to help you.
Dr. Ali was such an amazing professor! He's super caring and willing to point out your errors and help you overcome them when you ask. He is always willing to extend deadlines for homework, which super helpful! He is also super encouraging and hilarious during class. And, he is sometimes lets class out early when he can tell out brains are fried!
I took Professor Ali at TCC Northeast. He's a great guy and truly cares to help out in any way possible. I ended with a C+ but that's because he helped me not fail. Math is not my forte by any means. Only downfall is you only have 5 tests and the final, but he did drop a test. You can buy the book or just use your notes, you will have plenty to use
You are graded by 3 exams and 5 quizzes, so not a lot of wiggle room to mess up. He's a decent professor but he assumes that you already know a lot about the math going in to the class, and he speeds through a lot of material during the lectures. He assigns homework but doesn't take it up, you need to do the problems to do well on the exams though.
Great guy. One of the best professors I've taken at UTA. Gives 3 exams and 5 quizzes and all of them are really easy. Speeds through the lecture though but he'll help if you ask him. Exams are really simple and the class is an easy A
Great professor who starts of by teaching the theorems in the course to understand the concept. He explains the theorems with good examples. To do well in the class, student must be present to pay attention to detail.
hot guy great fries, this doctor has a great class. 10/10 would take again. dont have food in class
Definitely knew a lot about linear algebra and mathematics.
Mr. Ali is obviously very knowledgeable when it comes to mathematics. He is not, however, been good at teaching it. He goes very fast, scribbling examples and skipping steps without explaining what he's doing or why he's doing it. I stopped attending his lectures and just watched YouTube videos over each topic and my grade improved substantially.
Dr. Ali is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. Yes, his class is hard - it's Calculus I. Yes, there's a lot of homework (and you really need to do the homework to understand the lectures and to do well in lab). Yes, he talks and writes really fast. However, he really wants his students to understand the class and it really shows.
Any Calc class is going to be hard if you struggle with math, Ali just makes it easier because he explains it pretty well. He doesn't just explain the what, he explains the why in great detail. That's something you sadly don't see a lot of math professors do and it's good to have one that does.
Good professor, he definitely knows his stuff. He sometimes goes through material really fast so you have to go back and look at it later. Grades only by 3 exams at 20% each and final at 40%. They are pretty straight forward as long as you go to class, read the book, and do the provided practice questions.
Hands down one of the best professors I've had yet. Our grade was based on 3 Midterms and a Final, each covering an almost equal amount of material with the final being comprehensive. He was very funny and even showed us the real life application of some of the concepts at the end of the semester. Homework not required, but if you want an A, do it!
The class is departmental so it is not in his hands to grade you. He is pretty clear on his explanations and helps you give a hint of what is going to be on the exam. Very knowledgable person.
Great at explaining the topics of calculus. I am not math wiz by any means, but I feel that hey conveyed the material so well that it ALMOST made it easy. Definitely would take him again.
Dr. Ali wants you to pass. If you're already comfortable with basic math, you should be perfectly okay. He assigns a lot of homework but you have the entire semester to do any chapter, although he says he takes 1% off each extra day after it's due. He'll give you a couple extra credit options towards the end of the semester.
He's a great guy, but not a great prof. I have all the respect in the world for him but his teaching style is definitely geared towards engineers and science majors and didn't relate well to me. His whole lecture is force-feeding you examples and doesn't really explain the concepts, just expects you do to do the homework to understand.
He is an okay teacher, tries to teach us to benefit us. Some of his explanations are questionable, but math 1301 is the easiest math class regardless of which teacher you have. He allows us to work to get partial credit on the exams, helps clarify questions and he cares for us.
Dr. Ali really does his best in order to get you to understand the material. The tests are cumulative so he really does his best to prepare us for those tests. Heavy in homework but that is to be expected in a Calc class. Go to his office hours!!! He really does his best to make sure you understand the material and is suuuper nice! Would recommend
super sweet guy thats passionate about his job. Open to questions and isnt grumpy. Every time you go to class end up learning about two or three new topics that are in the textbook. I never missed the class because I knew that if I did I would have to teach myself material. Attending isnt mandatory but sometimes counts as extra credit.
Very innocent teacher. He is so passionate about teaching that you will love his lecture. He grades well. I would suggest to go to class every day because it is calculus. Also he will make you understand everything, if not in class then during office hours but he will. Try to ask him as much as possible.
Dr. Ali is an amazing instructor who is willing to help all of his students. If you are struggling, go to his office hours! I cannot stress this enough because he has helped me tremendously just by going in to talk with him. I believe anyone who takes his class will enjoy it. The examples he writes on the board are similar to the test questions.
Dr. Ahmed Ali, Is passionate and very patient. If you dont understand the material, he will try and explain it more after class. Make sure to do the homework, very important.
I am about to graduate from UTA and can say that Dr. Ali is one of the best professors who taught me. He makes sure that students understand the linear algebra topics well. He relates the topics he teaches with their practical uses today. He curves grades and gives useful review ahead of exams. This guy is talent in making complex topics very easy.
Dr. Ali goes through examples in class very clearly and is great at relating what is being taught towards engineering and computer science majors. He helps you visualize linear algebra so you arent just moving numbers around without thinking about what is actually happening. Take him, do the homework, and you'll not only pass, but you'll understand
Truly one of the worst professors I have taken. Can't explain concepts at all and his tests are mostly concept based. His explanations are mostly hand gestures with him blowing you off if you ask for clarification. Don't bother going to his office hours either as they are packed and his explanations are basically the same.
One of the easiest professors I've taken for contemporary math. His exams (except for the final) are no longer than 20/22 questions and he always provides a review for each exam. EASY A.
He was great! He taught fast, but he would pause to see if anyone had questions & try to answer them in a way that made since. If we didn't get it, he would say to talk to him after class. Homework is due on December 6th so you can do them whenever. He tells you problems are on the test & reminds you of upcoming due dates. He's really funny too!
loved this guy. such a sweetheart and cares about his students and the subject he teaches. He keeps the class light-hearted but you actually learn. Im sooo happy I took him & not anyone else bc he gives you all semester to do the hw at your own pace & more tries on the quizzes while others dont. Not a math person but I enjoyed it and learned a lot!
Mr. Ali is so sweet. This is a really easy math class, and I've never been good at math. Attendance is a grade so make sure you show up. There's online homework assignments and quizzes, and you need to have the math book he requires you to buy. He's a great professor; he just kind of talks fast, so pay attention. Not a difficult class.
Im terrible at math, but Dr. Ali made this class bearable. He tries his hardest to make sure every student passes, but you do have to show youre trying, doing your homework, taking extra credit opportunities etc. Luckily, I dont have to take ANYMORE math classes for my major, but if I did I would take Dr. Ali again.
Professor Ali made having to take another math class bearable. I'm a returning student and haven't taken classroom math in forever. He made it easy to understand, gave extra chances on the homework and quizzes, and was fun during lecture. Final comprehensive. Reviews before each test. A really great teacher. Would take again.
Prof Ali was great. He taught the material very simply. There's lots of homeowork but its doable. Exams are easy if you pay attention in class. He always reviews the material before exam day and also lets you retake an exam of your choice. Overall very nice guy and tries to make class enjoyable.
Dr. Ali is like a math dad like the way he talks and jokes, but he also reassures you not to worry. The homework is tedious but you get multiple attempts at homework and quizzes. Tests emulate the homework, and are sometimes easier than the homework. Do your best at accumulating stats coins so you can opt out of the final or retake a unit exam etc.
I took Dr. Ali for MATH 1308 and he was so great! He does take attendance for lectures but he tried to keep us as engaged as possible throughout it. He's very understanding and patient! Highly recommend.
Ive taken Dr. Ali for Calc I and Calc II and will be taking him for Calc III this summer. Hes my FAVORITE prof at UTA. Math is hard enough and he will work with you to succeed if you put in the work. Go to his office hours. He truly cares about his students. He made me realize that Im actually not bad at Math. He does lecture fast though!
Dr. Ali is such a sweet professor. There are two exams and a final for Cal 1 (all departmental). He's very understanding and willing to help. Study well for the 1st exam and make sure to do well because the 2nd exam and final are MUCH harder. The HW's were online and had unlimited attempts, but lengthy, and he made it due the day before the test.
Professor Ali is the best, don't miss him if you really want to enjoy math. He's the best professor i ever had. Kudos to all of his hard works.
Dr. Ali is a great professor and cares for his students very much. He is very patient and will help you understand any questions you may have. Go to his office hours.
I've always hated math in high school but Math 1301 is the way to go. I failed basically every math class in high school and currently, in Ali's class, I have a 96. He explains concepts really well if you don't get it, he will take the time to help. Super nice too.
Professor Ali is the sweetest professor Ive had so far. He genuinely cares about his students and wants you to succeed. He is very patient and is willing to take as long as you need. Theres a lot of homework and assignments but thats expected. Tests are most of your grade so study well because you go over a lot of info in a short amount of time.
This guy helped me understand calculus after not knowing what the heck I did back in high school. He wants his students to succeed and will go over information when asked. Calculus is quite a tough subject, but he makes it so simple it's amazing how I now understand math. Best calc teacher B)
He made Calculus a lot more easy for me to understand (I'm terrible at math in general) through his examples and chapters. He offers practice exams from past years to help study and study sessions within class and labs. The TA was very nice and she was also always willing to help. Both are very encouraging and nice and make math more bearable!
Amazing professor! The lectures are very helpful. He makes sure that everyone is on the same page and prompts students to ask questions. He will help after class and during office hours. 100% recommend.
I'd already withdrawn from Calc a semester before, and came out not really getting anything. From these lectures though, I was able to start to piece the concepts together. He would go thru many examples and would be very encouraging in his streams. We were able to learn comfortably. However it is a fast paced class no matter the professor.
I was excited to take his class when I read all the good reviews. Class was nothing like the reviews. Half of the time he was making mistakes or jumping around. Asks often if he needs to slow down but never does. Calculus needs to be understood to succeed but he teachers it like its algebra. Labs have little to do with the lecture. Pick a diff prof
I don't know about the other math professors, but Professor Ali is a solid choice. He seems to really care. He tries to make the lectures as interesting as possible. There is quite a bit of homework though, but I think that's just the class. You can retake an exam at the end of the semester. Pretty straightforward class.
If you're like me and you struggle with math, I would be weary of taking this class with Professor Ali. I read his reviews and had high hopes, but this was my hardest class. Most of the material covered was stuff that I learned in high school, but he made it more complicated than it needed to be.
If you are taking Calc 1, Dr Ali is the best option. He thoroughly covers each topic and provides study material for every exam. He is passionate about the subject and is not being to listen to. Homework is at your own pace, and Dr Ali will answer any questions you ask, no matter how dumb, and lemme tell you, there have been some odd questions.
Class started off easy, and ended a tad bit challenging. Make sure to show up to class bc he takes attendance on Canvas. Pay attention in class, or notjust make sure u understand the material. Very cool teacher, laughs to make dad jokes (laugh even if u dont find it funny). Attend office hours, hes really chill and very helpful.
my tag says a lot of hw but that varies. there's weekly stuff and sometimes its heavier than other times but its manageable. he's a funny great teacher that is super caring and will give extra credit at the end if u need it. super easy topics too
Ahmed Ali is a great choice if you want to take calculus. He is very thorough with his lecture material and tries to make sure that everyone understands the material before moving on. However, make sure you go through some of the HW before the lecture on it in order to get the most out of them and study outside of class so you're not behind.
Dr. Ali's lectures are really helpful. Easy grader. For the tests, just practice the class examples. He is a nice person.
He was a very nice teacher, the work was simple and easy to understand and there were extra credit opportunities. Try not to miss any lectures because he goes over the work and any questions you have will be answered.
this man let me ask him the most ridiculous questions at the end of class and literally never complained. he'd actually have legit answers too. this class was so easy. he would literally not get mad at me for being late to exams. EXAMS!! TAKE. HIM. he's VERY good at his job.
edit to my earlier review (i'm the one who said "EXAMS!!). attendance IS a part of your grade. my bad
This professor is unclear with his instructions, and does not speak clearly. He leaves too much online homework and he teaches the lessons a day before the exams leaving no time for reviewing.
Gives you past semester exams (they are all the same) 20 questions, 2-3 free responses at the end. After hours, and lab. If you apply yourself just a little bit an A is achievable. Do not be scared of Math at UTA. I once was because of everyones opinion on it. But this Professor greatly helped me strengthen my math. Highly recommend, very passionate
Dr. Ali makes this class super easy. He likes to joke in class, but makes sure we get through the material. There are only three hard deadlines throughout the whole semester. Review days before test are very helpful.
Lectures are interesting to listen to and it extremely easy class and he posts recorded lectures online. ALL his exams are multiple choice and his reviews are super helpful and similar to exams. Super easy A if you attend class and study well!
he was kind, had a sense of humor, and was all-around just an enjoyable professor. he did require you to buy the textbook at the beginning of class, but you honestly do not need it (i didn't buy it). as long as you do your homework, study, and review, it's an easy A. i mainly learned through the homework, not by lectures.
Overall a very great professor. He was very kind, understanding, and funny. There is a lot of homework but he gives plenty of time to do it. Definitely not a stressful class.
Practically a dad that just wants you to do well. Will do signature assignments, homework, and extra credit questions with the class. Goes over test reviews with the class. Communicate with him and he will see what he can do; he changed the test format for my class, which boosted grades heavily. Pearson HW w/ unlimited attempts. Quizzes w/ 2 tries.
Professor Ali was an amazing professor. He allows homework to be done at anytime before the semester ends and everything is unlimited attempts. He goes over the signature assignments and gives extra credit for tests. The tests are very heavy but he reviews them beforehand. Attendance is apart of grade and code is provided at end of class. TAKE HIM
Dr. Ali was an amazing professor. He was very kind and lenient. He gives extra credit on the test. More than one attempt on homework and quizzes. Drops lowest quiz and 2 homeworks.
He refers to the textbook while working on examples in class. There are 2-3 homework assignments each week, all due at the end of the semester. However, they can be tricky and will build up if you don't do them. There is 1 written assignment that requires you to explain how to do questions and the exam reviews are very similar to the exam.
Overall, just an average professor when lecturing the material. Instead of discussing the topics first he would go straight to practice problems while going over the material. I didn't mind since I took Calculus before, however, this led to many of the students being confused. Practice exams are key, HW is useless, and pay attention for in-class Q.
Really chill professor and teaches the course amazingly. Attendance is a part of your grade but the lecture teaches you pretty well.
I took this class previously at TCC and failed. With him, I managed to almost get an A, explains Maths and makes it easy to get a B/A.
The concepts covered in this course are very complex however he tries to break down each concept to an understandable level. His lectures are very interesting, and the test reviews are very helpful. As long as you pay attention in class and do the homework, you should do well in this class.
An Amazing professor he makes lectures simple and easy to understand. Attendance is mandatory counts for a grade. He does reviews before the test which are really helpful and also has extra credit for 5 points that helps get your score up. As long as you go to class and pay attention you'll do good .
Professor Ahmed would go over the material as many times as needed. He would also provide bonus quizzes before one of our 3 exams which could earn you up to 5 points added on the test. He would also go over a review for about a week before the exam which would be very similar to the questions that would be seen on the test.
I honestly have no idea how I got an A since the last math class I took I got a C. But I think that is because of Professor Ali, he is very helpful if you ask questions and will provide guidance if you don't understand something. While I still struggled on the exams, if you do well on the homework and other assignments you should do fine!
Dr. Ali is one of the best professors I have ever had. He knows what he is doing, as soon as you understand his lecture, you should be good to go "A"
He knows and loves math very well. I worked very hard to get an (A) and was 1 point away from it. when asked if he could bump my grade. In-person, he told me not to worry, since I never missed a lecture, and sees how hard I worked. But when I emailed him he told me that my grade is a (B) and he can't do anything about it. That B messed up my GPA
Enjoyed this professor, extremely knowledgeable of content. Homework has unlimited attempts per problem on MyMathLab, enabling you to earn a 100 on each assignment. Exams were MC, with a review provided and discussed in class. Bonus quizzes were offered for each exam. Open to answering questions during lecture and provided flexible office hours.
I am not good at math at all but, Professor Ali is very passionate about teaching and very patient with questions. He held tutoring sessions which helped a lot! Gives reviews before the exam and extra credit quizzes. The lectures are pretty heavy and attendance is graded. He also goes very fast but, as long as you ask him to slow down he will.
Professor Ali is a very charismatic teacher who teaches very well if you pay attention and dedicate time out of class to review the material he teaches during his lectures. This class is super test-heavy as the 3 exams you'll take over the semester accumulate to 80% of your final grade.
This class is all about the exams which are worth 80% of your grade and there are three of them. If you do horrible on the first one, it is over already. He goes very fast in the lecture, finishing a whole unit in about 30 minutes, and expects you to know it afterward. Unless you are some math genius, it is nearly impossible for you to succeed.
Great teacher. Teaches and reviews everything you need to know for the midterms/final
Dr. Ali was awesome. He genuinely cares about his students' learning. He is very accessible outside of class and responds promptly to emails. Although his lectures might be at a quicker pace than most, he encourages his students to stop him and ask questions.
Very kind professor, his lectures can be fast paced but that's because he wants to twist your arm into asking and engaging with lecture. Grades only on the exams, HW, and lab. Homework is unlimited attempts, lab is mostly up to the TA. Since exams are departmental do your best you study the old exams he has posted in canvas.
Most lectures he would vaguely talk about theory and if you had any questions he would not help. Little to no actual notes would go over solving problems, so you were on your own for the homework, and the exam is not based on the homework so if you don't teach yourself the material outside of class you will fail. Worst professor I've ever had.
This professor was so fast paced and you wouldn't actually learn anything, he would give out 10 assignments a week and once changed the due dates from an assignment
