Very softspoken and sweet. Really wants to answer any questions. You have to participate frequently to be known. Likes to give out candy.
She was one of the sweetest professors I've had so far!The class is mostly lecture but she chooses very interesting topics. You have to do a lot of reading from the textbook.Quizes, which are easy. She's extremly helpful&willing to answer any Q's.She clarifies everything. She's fair.I really recommed her! I learned so much in such a small time period.
loved her! she knows who you are, gives out extra credit during class lectures with candy :) really nice and lovely professor.
When I took her class, it required tons of reading. Lecture can be a tad boring with pure power points, but she made it a bit more interesting with videos and experiments.
Great teacher. Class is mandatory and worth points, but she keeps class entertaining and offers extra credit for participation. 3 tests with lowest score dropped, some class activities, study guides, and an observation paper. Easy class and interesting.
Loved this professor! I took this class on a Saturday morning and class was fun overall. Attendance isn't mandatory but she gives you attendance points. The book is used for weekly online ch. quizzes, 2 exams drops the lowest, one paper. She offers so much extra credit it can boost you a whole grade. Class is super easy,I recommend her to everyone.
i freaking love her. i am currently taking a class with her and i wish all my psych professors were like her!
She and her class are amazing! She makes many things mandatory, but you actually learn a lot in her class. One of the best professors in the psych department!
Amazing. You learn a lot in the class. Weekly quizzes on chapters. Observation paper and mandatory test review sheets due the day of exams which really help. I had a new study habit not only for her class but others as well. There is enough extra credit. Attendance not mandatory but if you go every day it will be extra credit which could save you.
SHE IS THE BEST!! TAKE HER CLASS AND YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT!!! You will learn a lot. She is really kind, knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches. There are online quizzes, review sheets and an observation paper. The tests are easyyyy... Don't hesitate to take her class!
The class is easy enough but not for the lazy student. Weekly online quizzes based on the textbook, mandatory test study guides due the day of tests and a child observation paper. There's tons of extra credit though if you suck on the tests. (research paper, movie paper, participation). She also drops the lowest test score. She's hot too!
SHE IS THE BEST!!!!!!! great lectures, SUPER clear, tests aren't tough if you study, not boring at all. Take home quizzes, 4 tests (drops the lowest), and a cumulative final. I took this class as an extra to be a full time student and it ended up being my favorite class I've ever taken, and it's not even part of my major. That's saying something!!!
She's the worst professor I've had. She treats her students as if they're preschoolers. She takes roll twice to ensure nobody leaves, and she gives random class assignments that are worth way too many points (another way to ensure attendance). She doesn't allow laptops. It's an easy class but she's managed to make it a drag. Never again.
She's nice (and pretty). It's not that bad of a class, just make sure you show up and pay attention and you'll prolly do fine. I took her at Moorpark tho.
Though she is strict on attendance, Professor Mahmud is an AMAZING teacher. She is down to earth and accommodates her students when needed. Her lectures are so well discussed that studying is useful, but not something to stress about as long as you pay attention in class. However, we didn't use the book at all and it was really expensive.
If u do not have any other responsibilities besides this class then it might be fine for u. If u plan on taking other classes or having a job then I dont recommend bc she sets very arbitrary, rigid, unrealistic deadlines for assignments and forces u to submit a study guide to her liking for credit as well as prohibits laptops for taking notes
She is very specific about her grading criteria, no surprises there. If you show up to lecture (which are engaging and memorable!) you should do just fine. I really learned a lot just by listening and absorbing. Studying was necessary but mainly for review as so much was retained just from lecture alone. Discussions were fun. Lots of extra credit!!
Prof Mahmud is a great teacher overall. She has 15 quizzes through the class, one for every chapter. The thing is you have to do them by the morning of class, so you have to do them the night before. If I didn't set an alarm to do the quizzes I would've missed many of them. Also, start the observation project early and it wont be stressful.
I am a freshman and I am glad I got to have her as a professor! She is very nice and gives lots of extra credit. She also makes the class interesting by showing funny videos relating to the topics in class. Would take again if I could
Great teacher. She gives you a very clear outline on whats going to be on the tests & gives out a lot of extra credit. You can skip class but make sure to get notes bc all the answers are in them. Participation is good bc she gives extra credit for your two cents. Super cool and really nice. Stay off your cell & study notes and you'll get an A!
She gives a lot of opportunities for extra credits, which is good for you to enhance your grade. But she'll have kahoot quiz nearly every class before she starts lecture, and the participation will be counted as your attendance. She is a tough grader so you must hand in every works she assigned on time.
I loved Professor Mahmud! She was so caring and made the class interesting. She gave out extra credit like it was oxygen and would sometimes give you extra credit for just showing up certain days! You have to fill out a study guide and submit it to her as an assignment and honestly that was the best memorizing tactic for the tests. Very easy!
Class was filled of 3 exams, 1 final, online quizzes, essay, class activities, kahoot, and attendance. Drops an exam. Annoying part, she really cares about things being turned in on time but she does make it easier bc you can send it to her via email. She has A LOT of extra credit. Super easy to reach via email. Take her bc she honestly GREAT!
3 exams, 1 final, online quizzes, interview essay, class activities, kahoot, and attendance. She is really nice and it's easy to reach her. She makes the subject really easy to understand. Gives a lot of extra credit. She is tough on time though. You have to turn everything in on time or no credit. She is sweet and approachable. Would take again!
She is so nice and gives many extra credit opportunities. 1 kahoot question at the beginning of every class and 4 tests 1 final as well as quizzes due every week. and test reviews for each test Do not buy the book! She said we needed it but it was never needed for test reviews or any assignments
The test is hard the final is even harder she is making us remember all chapters, not a recommended class.
Professor Mahmud has such a passion for what she was teaching & makes learning so fun. I am actually considering changing my major to Psych because of how interesting her lectures were. Show up to class, do all the extra credits, take good notes, & STUDY. Send your assignments by email because she does not accept any late work, period. Love her.
Unfortunately I dont have enough room to explain how terrible she is. Just dont take her, she doesnt know how to teach, at least for this class. She cant manage to finish the lectures before our exams and makes us learn it by ourselves. BELIEVE ME DONT TAKE HER. I PROMISE YOU, YOU WILL REGRET IT IF YOU DO.
Prof Mahmud is funny, entertaining, and sweet. She makes the class materials relatable. 1 Quiz every week. 3 Tests, 1 dropped. 1 FInal. Her tests are not hard if you do the study guide provided and study. MANY, MANY extra credit opportunities. She's overall very nice and caring. She also gives out chocolate for participation!
Don't Do IT, this woman's talents are best served in an LAUSD middle school; takes attendance, marks you tardy, throws candy out during lectures, COLLECTS STUDY GUIDES & FLASH CARDS, writes the worst test questions EVER and talks endless about her T.V. addiction and personal life! She went to CSUN for grad school. This convinced me apply elsewhere
I have never taken a professor so difficult in my entire life. She thinks the only class youre taking is hers, she tries tricking you with oddly worded test questions, her final is on all 13 chapters and shes a horrible lecturer. She told us shell never read her reviews out of fear. Maybe she should. DONT TAKE HER
Professor Mahmud is cool but she needs realize she's teaching college level courses. she takes role very seriously, marks you tardy. She gives a lot of extra credit and lowest test gets dropped. There are weekly quizzes and final exam is cumulative. She's cool but she needs more teaching experience.
Three exams (one is dropped); a final (recycling questions from the three previous exams); thirteen at-home quizzes; a 4-6 page (body) application paper based on an interview; & a one-question Kahoot at the beginning of class. She tracks attendance, but it doesn't affect your grade. A LOT, and I mean A LOT, of extra credit opportunities.
She is awful, She doesn't allow laptops, she collects your personal test review to grade them (then grades how you study i guess which is bs), talks way to much about her own family, redundant a lot of the time, she sometimes repeats things in this slow condescending way as if we can't hear her (she very loud) Oh and she grades you on your kahoot
I have taken her twice already. I liked her teaching style the first time, so was glad to take her again. this review is from my experience** class is straightforward, do your work and you'll pass. weekly quizzes on chapters, 4 total exams, and study guides to turn in as hw. i do have to say that reading is required if you want an A.
I took this course Fall 2020 virtually due to COVID. Professor Mahmud posted her lectures on time and gave great detail. I bought the book but did not really need it because her lectures gave significantly enough detail. Total of 3 Exams along with weekly chapter quizzes and she requires review guides for each exam. One Project & Extra Credit.
DID NOT post lectures on time. Deadlines each week. Material is common sense. NEVER RESPONDS TO EMAILS ON TIME. It's asynchronous but she lagged for weeks on email responses especially with important project questions and gave vague answers. 3 exams drops lowest, cumulative final, 1 huge paper/interview project, extra credit
Easiest class I took this semester during COVID. Every week we had a new chapter of reading but the textbook is so easy to read through. It is very current with relevant topics about real life examples. Weekly discussion, with a weekly quiz, and learning curves. The tests are easy especially if you do the review sheets.
WORST lag with emails, unhelpful with paper project, unprofessional, class is a joke.
Decent professor/class. It's a lot of reading, a lot of quizzes, some exams. Overall pretty easy A. I didn't really like how detailed she wanted the study guides to be. When I get an A on an exam and you say I didn't include enough detail on the study guide, clearly I did if I got an A lol. But those aren't worth too many points anyway.
Since this was a fully online class, we didn't have much interaction with the professor. She doesn't post videos or lectures, instead she assigns a ton of reading and interactive book assignments. My biggest mistake was waiting until the end of the semester to reach out to her, because she's truly wonderful and cares to help, unlike most CSUN profs
No meetings. You complete online course work every week (easy) and for every 4 chapters you complete an outline and take an exam (4 exams total). The final replaces the lowest exam score. Take this class for the easy A.
Class was all online. She had a mandatory, separate thing from canvas where you'd do assignments. The practice ones were a bit difficult but it takes you to areas in the book to find the answer. The exams/quizzes were also mostly on Quizlet or the book. You can't look at the book during the quizzes or exams so take pictures before if you need them.
3 assignments due each week with EVERY SINGLE chapter, 5 due on test weeks. Just felt like a lot of busy work rather than teaching, didn't feel like she realized we have other classes. She grades our study guides and you have to purchase the online program to do any of the work. Will never take her again, way to much busy work vs real learning.
Slow grader+ slow to return emails, if ever. Lectures are disorganized + unclear (tests are based on lecture only). Does not use information from the textbook in lecture, seems to make up her own interpretation of topics and concepts that do not match up. Wildly confusing course, you will not learn child development in this class. Do not recommend.
I really enjoyed this class! Her exam questions are based on the slides. Make a friend in this class and study together, it'll make studying even smoother. I'd definitely take another class with her!
4 exams & a cumulative final, DROPS LOWEST EXAM OUT OF THE 4. Her exams isn't too hard but she understands not all students always do well in exams SO SHE GIVES A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES. There's always quizzes for each chapter BEFORE she lectures about it. She asks for study guides submission for credit! She's one of the best psy profs.
Professor Mahmud deserves a 5/5 on here for real. She is genuinely such a kind and understanding person. She just wants her students to succeed. There is plenty of opportunity for success in her class. This is by no means a difficult course if you show up to class and actually listen. She keeps the class very entertaining and engaging.
This class this semester was the hardest one to get through. Don't skip class because kahoot is worth points and she does one every class. She's a tough grader. She grades your exam review sheets which I filled out from her lecture notes and she still said it wasn't enough. Lastly, there's a quiz every week due by 7am. She is nice and not boring
The only good thing about her is she's nice and her lectures are not boring. The bad thing about her is she's a tough grader, her exams are tough (3 plus the final), and she rushes through the semester because she's somehow always behind and it made me anxious all semester trying to keep up with this class and her psy 313 class.
although she is nice and provides tons of extra credit, which really helps your grade if you score lower on assignments, she does not provide clear directions on most assignments. she rushed through most of the material, and it seemed to effect some students throughout the semester. she is caring and her lectures are great, just do the easy ec!!
Professor Mahmud is amazing! Her lectures are so interesting and keep you engaged. Take good notes and fill in the study guide immediately after lectures and you will be just fine on the exams. The lowest score is dropped and she gives ample amount of extra credit opportunities so passing with an A is very doable.
She made her class harder than b4 (long project at the end). I have her once a week for 3 hrs and most of it is ppl talking about their personal experiences. The chapter quizzes are also due before she discusses it in class so we read the book. It is rly a waste of time considering how much information we essentially have to teach ourselves.
She was a funny and entertaining Professor, but I really struggled with a lot of the material we learned in class. Although I did learn a good amount of information to apply in my life! She's cool but get ready to be told a lot of information. I advise to really study hard and participate because it helps your grade at the end of the semester!
This room is so stuffy it makes learning impossible. The class is a waste of time, the prof (a nice person, I assume. I never spoke to her) spends so much time talking about her life, then invites students to do the same. not a hard class its just hard to care about it when you dont feel like youre learning anything. tests include way too much info
She is super passionate about the subject and I enjoyed her lectures, but she talks too much about her personal life and lets other students talk about their own life stories. We were behind a lot because of it and she made us watch online lectures to catch up. The observation project was the worst part of the class and it was confusing/unclear.
Overall a great professor who genuinely loves to teach. I noticed others have complained about her talking to much when regarding her personal life, but she uses real life examples from her life and implements them into the lectures which I enjoy and am grateful for as she has provided many examples that helped me further understand the criteria.
Has the entire course clearly outlined with minimal changes. I suggest starting on extra credit early, they require some effort that would be too much work when you should be studying for the finals. Exams reflect the questions given in our weekly tests. Must do chapter readings before lecture but lectures guide the exams. So write it ALL down.
The instructor focused on memorizing facts instead of understanding ideas. She didn't seem to care about students' learning and often wasted class time with unrelated stories. Participation was mismanaged and disrupted class. Her personal stories, like using a friend's credit card without permission, were uncomfortable and off-topic.
Overall, she is an excellent professor. Some students complained about her sharing too much about her personal life. YOU HAVE TO PUT IN THE TIME. However, I appreciate that she incorporates real-life examples from her experiences into her lectures. These examples have helped me better understand the material, and I am grateful for that
All she talks about is her daughter and always sidetracks. She does not teach well and never gets through an entire lecture with the amount of times she sidetracks.
Her class is pretty tough. I don't like that she doesn't add notes to her slides during lecture and just tells us what to write down. She's a tough grader when it comes to exam review sheets (don't be surprised to get a "needs more" comment) and even with extra credit. It's worth doing ALL the extra credit opportunities. However, she's very nice.
I don't like how if you want any points for talking in lecture she was picky on who she give it to and often the students asked questions that she could not answer or had nothing to do with class. We could never get through a whole lecture bc she got off topic majority of the time. It unfair to have lecture before an exam she is not a "easy" class
This professor was very good.
The professor was extremely picky with who she gave extra credit too. Never finished a lecture to its entirety. The quizzes always had questions that were not covered in the review. If you take notes of everything she presents in class, expect a C on your exams. Best advice would be to do all the extra credit. At least she was friendly.
The extra credit was very hard to obtain, and came down to chance most the time. Had I got called on like twice, I would have got an A in the class. The study guides provided by our professor, which we were required to review with her, not only failed to improve our grades but actually hindered our performance.
She is so kind and cares about her students! Attendance is mandatory and she will take it based on a kahoot in the first two minutes of class, so make sure to show up early to get those points. Also offers extra credit so take advantage of that.
The lectures were l probably the worst I've had in a while, always get sidetracked and off topic. Attendance is “not mandatory” but participation, which is so hard to get which hurts your grade. The slides, lectures, and exams are completely disconnected. Exam reviews provided exclude important topics that are actually on the exam.
One of the worst professors at CSUN always gets sidetracked when it comes to lectures. The Cumulative Final is a week after Exam 4. Does not take fault when it comes to grading, doesn't like to be blamed. Does not excuse you from class even if you get hit by a bus. I tried to give her an opportunity, but that changed my mind.
She's a very kind and friendly professor, I just hated how disorganized the course was. My class was constantly behind, which resulted in us having to teach ourselves the final chapters before each exam. 4 exams throughout the semester and allows the lowest score to be dropped. Sucky part is the final because its cumulative and cannot be dropped.
I loved her and this class and will take any other classes she teach.
Loved her!
look, i'm not usually one to leave reviews on professors but going into this class you NEED to be prepared to do all the work yourself. i guarantee you, you WILL be behind on every single lecture that happens. the professor is really nice but she also doesn't know how to pace this class correctly so that everyone will succeed. avoid if you can.
Overall, she was not bad. Every week was a quiz and a discussion. She had weekly lectures, 4 exams (lowest dropped), a 100q cumulative final, and a 5-6 page observation paper. Very slow grader and docs random points with no explanation. Does not always email in a timely manner. I would say she is overall average.
If you attend lecture, listen, and write notes you should be able to pass her class. Her test questions aren't really hard and reflect what she goes over in lecture. She drops the lowest test score (4 exams). She does fall behind in lectures but posts videos to finish them. It's not hard but you have to put effort to understand the material.
About 95% of class time will be wasted by her talking about either, herself, her daughter, or allowing other students to share unrelated thoughts and stories during class time. Her examples in class are BIZARRE and gives 5 total exams including a CUMULATIVE FINAL without even getting through the material. Very disorganized, & stubborn.
I've joined this class to learn something new, I've learned more about professor's private life and her daughter. She has very arrogant attitude that she think she is better than everyone, not very friendly or interested in students success. Her online lectures are way more interesting. I've struggled. AVOID
This is my second time with Dr. Mahmud for a different course & I expected more this time around. She seems to always be disorganized. She lets class discussions go on for too long wasting time. But If you attend class, STUDY, go to office hours, & do the EC you'll get an easy A. People like to complain about her but don't put in the work either.
She's a nice person but her class structure was disorganized. Barely followed her own syllabus, constantly behind, the weird kahoot credits. Some extra credit opportunities, take advantage. Connects content to real life which I like but it does go on for too long causing us to fall behind. 4 exams (lowest dropped) and 1 cumulative final.
Professor Mahmud is a really nice person, but the structure of her class makes no sense! We had to constantly teach ourselves because she didn't get through the lecture. She would have a day scheduled for test review but would use it to finish lecturing. 4 exams and a cumulative final which makes no sense. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
You have to study for the tests but you will learn so much in her class!! She is amazing! 10/10 would take again!!
This professor really wants you to challenge yourself. If you want an easy passing class this is not it. You will learn a lot in her lectures and are very insightful. She clearly states the criteria for the assignments and really cares about the context of what you learned in her class. She provides great opportunities for extra credit.
pros: exams are fairly easy if you study, extra credit opportunities, kind/approachable con: does fall behind in lecture quite a bit
She's fine. Her classes can get quite dull, and the extra credit is basically a must, given how strictly she grades. If you're a good student, and you do the extra credit, an "A" is still achievable, but she definitely makes you put in more than your fair share of work for it. Overall, I would not recommend, but if you REALLY need the class, sure.
This professor is the only professor I have ever had that couldn't keep up with herself within her own lecture. Because of this problem, we were always behind.
I did not like how the teacher spoke to the class, in my opinion, she was condescending and most often explained things as if we were in elementary school and not in upper division university. Also beware of your kahoot scores she likes to put them in the very last week of class so you don't have time to turn in extra credit.
This was one of the classes I never skipped. She is very passionate and interactive with the students so it makes it much more fun. She has lot of extra credit opportunities (all due at the end of semester) and pre lecture quizzes every chapter. I totally recommend. 4 tests (lowest 2 dropped) and a final thats accumulative. final is cumulative!
