Dr. Stefanaki is very helpful outside of class. No surprises on tests. Lectures can be boring, but she is very knowledgeable and gives helpful notes. Would recommend taking her.
Very helpful and caring professor. Posts lectures notes. No need for the textbook. Tests are straightforward.
You can tell she cares about her students and wants you to succeed, but she is not a very good statics professor. She doesnt go over many problems in class so when your get to the homework your not gonna know whats going on. She also wears sweat pants to lecture which is weird to me considering most of my professors are dressed very professionally
Really tough class and professor isnt that good. Extremely basic examples when you get to the homework your gonna have no idea how to do most of them.
The examples she does are usually right out of the text book so no reason to go to class. She is not that good. Most of the professors for this class suck. To anyone taking statics or any engineering class i wish you luck. Youre gonna need it.
This class is trash and this professor is trash.
Probably the only course Ive repeated in my 3 year college career with 3.6 GPA. Concepts are rushed and in class examples are taught straight from book so why bother going to class. Honestly I can teach better. Good luck. Youre gonna need it.
Dr Stefanaki is a solid professor. Super sweet lady and gives good lectures with helpful notes. Plenty of explanation. Tests are fair and grading is not harsh. She's very accessible and wants her students to succeed. She sometimes gets a bit nervous when asked questions, but that is a very minor critique. Overall she is excellent. You'll do well.
This class is difficult so naturally professors that teach it will get a bad rap on this site for that. She handwrites notes and posted them online, but in class she moves fairly fast so its easy to fall behind and those notes can be quite messy so they're not always much help after class. HW is standard between classes, and due every Friday.
Class it pretty awful there is no point to going to class just read the book and do the homework. Exams also wont be straight forward questions.
Okay, she's really not confident and makes a lot of little mistakes which is where I end up stop paying attention in her lectures. Every class I went to there were multiple times students corrected her incorrect work. Oh well. Other than that shes not too too bad. She does examples and shows a solid process for solving problems. Hard class tho
I dont understand why Stefanaki got a bad rate. She is a very nice young professor. At first, I didnt like her. She has an accent, and sometimes get nervous when asked questions, But she cares about her students and guide you to understand the material. Just be patient for the first 2 weeks. Do HW, no surprises on tests at all. Labs are easy.
Lectures are quick and often not very helpful, however we go over current hw problems which does help. Hw assignment once a week that takes a couple hours. Tests are difficult and you are given less time than you probably should for the difficulty of the questions on there. Attendance is not required, but theres is a quiz every wednesday.
The class has videos that are watched online for lecture content, so most of what the professor does in class is practice problems (some from homework). However, a lot the problems are left uncompleted, and with no answers. There's a lot of confusion, but no time to ask all the questions. Often times the professor has difficulty conveying her ideas
This was Stefanaki's second semester teaching at ASU and it really showed. Her lecture style is regurgitating many pages from the textbook onto the projector and expecting you to keep up. Application of the subject material was basically non existent The class itself is a slog. take the worst parts of dynamics and circuits and combine them, :')
Dr. Stefanaki is the kindest professor I had this semester. Her lecture notes are always posted. She always posted solutions for homework right after the deadline so you can review and she has pushed tests back when we felt unprepared for them. Labs were weird this year, but luckily she dropped one to balance the grade out more. Overall great prof.
She's a new professor and it definitely shows - Lectures are usually straight out of the textbook. That said - if you actually go to her office hours or talk to her outside of lecture she is EXTREMELY helpful and will work with you to do well. Give her another semester or two and she'll be a top professor here, I have no doubts
Although Stefanaki is a new professor, she is still a very good professor. She is very kind and always willing to help after class or during office hours. The lectures may not be the most exciting, but her classes are coordinated so it's not her fault. The class is very hard but she does her best to make sure we understand the material.
Professor Stefanaki really cares about her students and ensures we understand the material. She presents the material in a way such that it was easy to understand and relate to real examples. If someone doesn't understand something she will go over it more in depth. Homework was reasonable and grading was fair. Exams were long.
I have never seen a college professor care as much about her students as professor stefanaki. The class is really hard with quizzes every week, very long homeworks, and very long/hard tests. But none of this is her fault because the class is coordinated and she does her best to try to help everyone who needs help in her class
Had her for MAE 201 as well, and didn't appreciate her as much the first time around. She makes sure she conveys the topics and how to do the problems. She works so hard to try and simplify everything for students. The lectures are an information dump, but there's a lot to be covered so it's understandable. Great professor, don't take for granted
Quizzes every week are kinda killer. Recitation does give you a chance to get points back but it's a bit chaotic. Stefanaki handled the transition to online classes very well and is a very caring professor. She does her best to help you understand and explains things that you are confused about
Dr. S truly wants students to be successful. She is helpful during office hours and will meet with you over zoom if you cant make it. HW is tough. Class is not clear at all. They give you practice exams but wont give you the answers? Not her fault but a department rule. Counter productive to learning. Decent professor, crappy department.
Stefanaki is one of those professors who genuinely cares about her students. She works hard to present the material in a way we can understand, and does many examples during lecture. She is very helpful on the homework through office hours or even email. Bottom line she cares, a lot. She'll make sure to help you succeed as long as you ask for help.
she is really nice and kind and know what she is teaching. statics is not a hard class but you need to practice a lot, the hardest part is how to attack the question. and with Aikaterini you will practice a lot lol.
She was my only professor who didn't take into account the fact that the transition to online for all the students would be challenging. She was alright in general.
It seems the attitude by most engineering professors is that the classes are hard and a lot of people do bad so we are almost expected to do poorly. Dr. Stefanaki was the only professor that really made students feel like she cared about them doing well in her class and she did everything in her power to allow that to happen.
She is the cool mom of the Mechanical Engineering department at ASU. She generally cares about her students, and will set up times if you cannot make it to office hours. Her lectures are a little heavy, but her exams are pretty straightforward and she doesn't try to trick you. I wish she taught more classes so I could take her for 4 semesters!
Stefanaki is a true diamond in the rough. I found her to be very helpful in office hours, and she is very patient and will always thoroughly answer questions. She is great during office hours and via email, and gives great feedback and information. I recommend taking her, as I found her to be the most effective professor for this course.
Stefanaki is a great choice for this class. Easily accessible outside of class and is super kind. However, the department makes this class a bit too difficult. Homework is pretty difficult and they even tell you at the beginning that "None of the homework will be on the test." Tests are completely unique and extremely difficult problems.
I really enjoyed this class. Prof broke down everything so it was easy to understand. She always made sure to stop and go over topics people are confused by. Grades were very fair and the expectations for the class are clear. Would take again!
I havent had anything less than a B in any class. I admit I am bad at tests but I always complete my work, quizzes, homework, and any extra credit to make up for it. That is exactly what I did in her class, but since the tests differ so much from the homework and the grade is very test heavy, I didnt receive the grade I think my work deserved.
Stefanaki was a great teacher and very caring about her class. As much as a lot of people struggled in this class, I thought a majority of the class was pretty simple and straightforward if you have good knowledge of your force diagrams and equilibrium equations from Physics 1 . The videos to watch outside of class were very helpful as well.
I could not advice you any harder to look elsewhere for this course. The material itself is not hard, but they keep finding ways to make it unnecessarily complicated. Exams and quizzes PURPOSELY have you solve ridiculous questions under a time crunch. It should not be this difficult, but they ramp it up in order to "prepare you for future classes".
You can see that she cares you. However you'll find out that no matter how good you are in Engineering, you'll lose your point. If you miss one single thing such as unit, you'll get 5/10. If you do not draw free body diagram which was not told in the problem you'll get 5/10. Thus you have to check every single thing and guess what she wants.
I love Dr. Stefanaki. I have taken her for 201 and 318 (I also watched her lectures for 213 as well because my instructor was not great). I can genuinely say that she is my favorite professor in the mechanical engineering department because she cares so much about her students, and will do anything to help them succeed.
This class is a mess. You know the typical, "hw's are easy, but quizzes and exams will kick your butt" type of class? That is exactly what this class is. Terrible lectures, terrible course structure, weekly quizzes and hw assignments. I am taking this course alongside 400-lvl classes, yet this one is more rigorous! Honestly take this class at a CC.
professor stefanakis forte is definitely MAE 318. she explains it very well and her notes also explain a lot of things. the homeworks can sometimes get very long but the exams are very fair. she doesn't throw any curveballs or any tricky stuff at you. I loved her as a professor and person!
She is one of the worst people to teach. She takes a an easy concept and tries as mush as she can to make it hard. Also, she doesn't explain everything and expect us to have a new way of solving it in the test in only 50 minutes, while it takes at least 2hours to do so. Definitely, she is the worst professor to ask for help. Do not take her class.
She is one of the nicest professors I have had. You can really tell she wants everyone to succeed. She'll move due dates if workloads get too heavy. The class gets hard after the midterm but go to office hours and she is more than happy tp help explain in detail and gives hints in class to do the HW. The labs weren't great but Noopy designed those
Dr. Stefanaki is by far the kindest professor I've ever come across at ASU. She's teaches very well if you actually pay attention in class and is extremely helpful during office hours. I'd 10/10 recommend taking her class.
Awesome professor, also had her for 201 and 213. She gets better and better, she is very clear and gives great notes for this class. 10/10 for this class, super straight forward and she tries to make it as easy possible.
The Professor is very kind and nice but the course workload is very massive in my opinion so you must dedicate a lot of time and effort to this class other than that the material is easy and understandable
The professor is very nice but the class is very hard. She does her best to explain everything and tries to help when you have questions
Extremely good at helping you grasp the concepts. Watch the videos before class, listen to her explanation in class, do the problem set HWs, and you should be good for the quizzes and tests. Go the recitations when you need to. Relevant portions of the textbook are provided on Canvas. The class is integrated, but she's the best among the others.
Dr. Stefanaki is a really good choice for MAE213. She is a very good lecturer and gives frequent examples throughout the class. She is super understanding and helpful outside of class. Definitely don't be afraid of going to office hours. Recitations are helpful, though sometimes move too quickly. Homeworks are similar to tests.
Overall a great and caring professor. It's the class I took I had issues with. The pre-recorded lectures were not recorded by the professor herself and they were not super helpful when it came to homework assignments. The material is difficult when trying to teach yourself. Other than that, the prof was accesible and there were EC opportunities.
She is defenitely a very good professor, but too strict.
The reviews that say she is strict are people who do not pay attention. Stefanaki does a very good job teaching this difficult topic, and she is very helpful. There are plenty of resources online that can help you with HW and Exams. Even better she lets you negotiate your grade at the end of year. Like her so much I am taking her again next year!
Prof Stefanaki is amazing! Sometimes her explanations can get a little confusing, but she teaches with practice problems which is the fastest way to understand a concept. The exams are like the homeworks and there are no surprises thrown at you. Just go to the lectures, do your work, and be present for review sessions/recitation. She's great
I really liked Stefanaki for 201. I like her lectures because she briefly goes over the concept and then jumps right into an example. She made everything clear and it was always easy to take notes. Hence, I'm taking her next semester for materials. I didn't find her grading particularly tough but the final was a bit hard.
Stefanaki is an amazing professor, she will answer any questions you may have, is clear and easy to understand, and truly cares about the students and their success. The 2 tests make up 40% of the grade and they are usually challenging but fair. As long as you do the homework and genuinely learn the topics, you will be fine. Best out of the 3 profs
She's a good teacher and she makes the class easy overall. Unfortunately, we only ever had one grade update after one of the midterms. Class consists of weekly quizzes, weekly recitation (to improve quiz grade), weekly HW, daily class participation, 2 midterms and a final exam. Make sure to do recitations and class participation for easy points.
Stefanaki is very enthusiastic about her classes. She wants to make sure everyone understands the problems and goes over many examples in class, highly recommend her!
Professor Stefanaki was amazing to have and I would happily take her again. She helps the class to understand when they get stuck, has good notes, and uses good examples. Taking her will make your life easier than other professors. She also fights for students to make sure that exams aren't too difficult and that there is extra credit when needed.
She is a very kind professor who wants to help you understand the material. She has office hours where you can work through problems you're struggling with, but quizzes were only announced in class so don't miss them.
Stefanaki was a pretty good teacher. Lectures, homework, and recitation helped prepare you for the tests. However, the tests were pretty tricky and decently hard but doable. More of just showing that you can apply the concepts. Easy B with an A possible with extra work. Would recommend.
Stefanaki is great...that's all there is to it. She tells us exactly what we need to know to pass the class, just gotta put in some work. Take her if you can
The tests are nothing like what you solve or do in problem sets they are very difficult. The questions are very hard and time alloted for the tests is very less if you go on a normal and try to complete questions you will definitely not be able to complete a test. Would never take her again.
Took this course in Spring 2023. I had a 96 when we took the final. I took the final with the flu and forgot to submit it to 1 of 2 sites required. I got a 0 for this & failed the entire course. I asked her if there was anything I could do and that I had the flu while taking the final. She said the instructions were clear and my grade was final.
The lecture videos were a little weird because they were filmed by another prof, but overall it was a well structured class. Homework and test feedback was useful for mastering the material. Recitations were great for seeing example problems, although some TAs were much better than others.
Great lectures, great notes, tough midterms, but kind of fair. She asked for a textbook that you wouldn't use, so don't buy it.
I had mixed feelings about Stefanaki. She has some difficult quirks. Testing windows are narrow (9 hours), so beware if you have a job, and time limits on the tests are pretty tight, so you have to work fast. Tests themselves are moderately hard, but do all the ungraded problem sets and practice exams and you'll be fine for the exams.
Gives you everything you need to succeed. HW's and quizzes are graded harshly. Exams give lots of partial cred though. If you show that you understand how to do the problem, you will do fine on the exam. Practice solving problems quickly because you will always run out of time on quizzes and exams.
Stefanaki was a great professor, she clearly cared about the class and would give us extra credit if the class average was low. She definitely responded well to criticism and made efforts to review over certain subjects.
Wasn't the best professor by any means, but far from a bad one. She does a good job of explaining a concept until the class understands and clearly cares about what she does. The exams are difficult, but they are graded more on the work shown than the answers given. As long as you prove that you know what you were doing you'll get a good grade.
Professor Stefanaki was honestly fantastic. Not homework heavy in the slightest, but enough to make sure you know the material. Her exams were very easy as long as you put in a decent amount of effort and there are a bunch of extra credit options. Can't recommend her more
She was a great professor. She taught the material very well and the lectures were very beneficial. My only complaint is about how the homeworks were graded and their weight. The homeworks took a lot of time and effort and were only 5% of your total grade. Overall though, she was great and I would recommend.
This course is pretty easy, but the distribution of the grade is horrible. The professor also knows her class is trivial, but will treat any requests as this is the mosy
Class isn't easy, but if you pay attention and do all the work you will easily pass. Mondays you have mandatory quizzes but can make points up at recitation, W and F you have in person assignments that you are graded on accuracy so make sure to show up. Practice exams are posted before exams and are almost identical, so study those.
Dr. Stefanaski was one of the best profs i've had yet. There is a video before most class days and she briefly summarizes in a great way and shows more practical uses of its content towards the class. She is a clear teacher who gives justification for how the material is applicable in real life and has practice exams very similar to actual ones.
She goes over most of the material you need to pass this class and is extenstive but doesn't respond to emails or helpful at all when you have a question on how to solve the problem. In class it's her going over examples for 30 minutes and good luck getting attention of a TA in time to turn in the 'class work' which also contributes to your grade
I had this professor for an online course and she was amazing. Very accessible outside of class along with the TAs who were very helpful throughout the course! She gives partial credit on the exams and good feedback! Made the material enjoyable to learn. I like her explanations on concepts and many resources were provided for studying.
The exams are hard, but she prepares you very well. Anyone who says otherwise literally did not pay attention at all.
one of the few great MAE professors, had her for 201 and 213. Thoroughly works through examples in lecture, is helpful when asked questions, and makes good use of the class time
The concepts are taught fairly well in lectures.HW has pre-class video summaries and a chapter-based problem set. Weekly quizzes can be 100% made up at recitation (you can go any time there is recitation). Exams are difficult--you usually don't get much time and have to rush, but they're working on that. EC depends strongly on classes' performance.
The course is designed to where if you go to class, you should be able to get a good grade. There are in class assignments and weekly quizzes (you can get points back at recitation). The material is not difficult and the practice exams really help you prepare. Take 201 with Stefanaki! She cares for her students, and wants you to succeed.
Show up and you will do well. Stefanaki is a very kind professor and does a great job at making the content easy to understand during lectures.
I'll be honest, I'm a horrible test taker. I can still do the problem sets, and still pass the recitation quizzes, but make poor grades on the timed tests. I struggled to retain the material during exam time, and her videos were old. I rarely watched a video of the professor herself, and I really wish she was more proactive with her online courses.
General structure is video before, lecture, inclass assignment, quiz, recitation, repeat. Exams are not cumulative and first two werent bad but final was more complex. Slight accent but not as bad as the other instructors and pretty easy to understand. Coordinated class so you can go to any office hours and uses Ed to help outside of class.
201 isn't super easy but the way the class is formatted is meant to help you. She is a good lecturer and helps you know what you need to know. The quizzes are simple enough, the midterms are similar to the practices, and the final matched the review. Just show up, put in the effort, and you'll be fine. Don't buy the textbook.
Stefanaki was a really cool and sweet professor. Really cared for the students and helping them out. Weekly quizzes at the end of lecture that were sometime extremely difficult. 2 exam, one final, and an extra credit exam. Final was extremely hard and most of us didn't pass it but luckily still passed the class. Enjoyed the group assignments.
Very average. Gave good information but not good at prepping for exams or quizzes. Took a quiz every week but could make up points in recitation. Sometimes recitation could take forever. TAs were not great at explaining material. In class problems happened almost every class which count for "attendance" however they should be a nice grade boost.
She's okay, the class just is meh
Stefanaki is great at teaching this course. Unlike 201 you don't make up quiz points, you need to study. Homework is a long Canvas quiz every week. The exams aren't too difficult, due to a generous grading scheme. Be sure to study compatibility equations and indeterminant structures the moment you learn them; homeworks and exams are all about that.
She is a very kind and caring professor. If you go to office hours she will help you tremendously. I got a D on exam 1, A on exam 2, and B on the final and ended with a C. Going to class really matters because there are graded assignments (practice problems) every class, and unfortunately I missed class too often so my grade was negatively impacted
The lectures give you everything you need to know. Recitation gives you back all points lost on quizzes. All classes are mandatory. Exams were fine, just make sure to do the practice exams. The homework is hard and time-consuming, but only due once a week. She is an amazing and clear professor and actually cares about students' well-being.
It's always nice to have a professor who cares about the class' success. She is awesome in the way she explains the problems and as a visual learner, I feel that I have learned so much in this course with just the visual memory of how to go about the problems. I love her and would definitely recommend her to anyone who truly wants to learn.
Always available to help within a reasonable time frame
Dr. Stefanaki is an 11/10 professor. Lectures are always thorough, she is super responsive to questions, she hosts great review sessions before exams, and gives several old tests to use for practice before exams. She is very fair and honest, genuinely wants students to succeed, and actually teaches the topics well. Highly recommend, take her class!
I will be taking her again for Mae 213. Amazing professor, kind, very organized, clear on her expectation and grading criteria. Provides and extra credit exam worth 5% that was multiple choice. Very engaging in lectures, I never lost focus and was able to clearly understand what she was teaching. I am not usually an A student , take her course.
Accessible outside the class. Exams were easy
She is a great professor. Very easy to understand and takes the lesson step by step. My advice is to go for every class. Do that and a couple practice problems and you will definitely get an A. I wasn't able to get her class for 213, but I still attend it because she's too easy to understand. 10/10
Do no skip her class. Genuinely teaches the course and cares about her students. Spent the first half of the class discussing concepts and example problems. Gave us the second half to work together on similar problems to directly apply what we just learned. Has reasonable homework and exams; she even gave us an extra credit exam before the final.
The material wasn't that hard to pick up but the time limit for weekly quizzes and the tests is brutal. She won't change it so don't even ask. No curve but she does have quiz recitations to make up points missed on quizzes. She did drop the lowest homework and quiz grades.
Professor Stefanaki taught every subject in a way that made it so easy to understand; she was really caring and helpful. The flipped course format of the class was really annoying because the videos didn't help AT ALL, and felt like a completely different class then what was being taught in class. This class isn't too hard.
Stefanaki is an amazing professor for this course; she explains everything well and provides lots of practice opportunities. The downside of this course is that there are quizzes every week, and you can make up the points in recitation. Overall, great instructor for the course would take again!
Flipped class so 10-20 minutes of lecture videos before each class, but the first half of lectures cover the same material. Attendance taken via practice problems done in class. Weekly quizzes with quiz corrections at recitation. Once weekly HW due Friday nights, about 2-3 hours. Slow grading for midterms and HW but you get feedback on Gradescope.
This was a flipped classroom, so a lot of the class is just a review of the videos, but she goes over tons of examples. I really liked the way she teaches the problems. She starts by teaching the steps and then allows students to try examples on their own.
This class uses a flipped classroom model, so you learn the concept before and then practice it in class. Exams are weighted HEAVILY and are pretty difficult. The good thing is you can get an entire problem wrong and still get tons of particle credit. Quizzes every Monday, but you can make up a lot of points at recitation. Has good exam reviews.
I found her office hours to be helpful especially for solving the extremely long homework problems . . .
