Dr. Winston is a great economics professor. Exams aren't too bad overall, gives everyone a retake on every exam and takes the highest grade of the two. Has good energy and understands students. Actually teaches the material in-depth instead of spitting out textbook information on slides. Has a more hands-on approach and makes lectures interesting.
Very enthusiastic and genuinely wants the students to learn. Her lectures are well organized and easy to follow, even if the topic itself is difficult. Great proffesor overall.
Probably my favorite teacher in the whole economics department , genuinely cares about teaching and is a very nice professor.
I would take any class she's teaching. She's hilarious, cool, and her lectures are so informative and super fun. Haven't missed a single class she taught because she's simply THE BEST. I'm no longer intimidated by the news thanks to the knowledge she has bestowed upon me. So glad I took this class.
You'll learn more than you thought you would. What an amazing professor! Can't believe there are professors like her out there who genuinely care about their students and would go out of their way to help you understand the materials. She's so good at teaching that even the hard materials looked easy. YOU'RE BRILLIANT, PROFESSOR WINSTON!!!
If not for Prof. Winston being as caring and down to earth as she is, I may not have passed this course. Her understanding and affable personality makes her one of my favorites in UB. I was screwing around the entire semester until the end and it seemed like hope was lost but she was right there to pick me up and help me bounce back! Awesome class.
I want to say more, but I can only select up to 3 tags. Professor Winston gives extra credit, she really wants you to pass the class. Her lectures are amazing since she tries to make her students stay active. She cares about her students since she could answer any concerns that I had. She is there to help you during her office hours.
You have weekly problem sets of 20 questions, 2 group projects which include a 5 page paper plus a debate for each, and there is a final for 15%. The lectures are supper relevant to current events and definitely helps out in both other classes and your personal day to day life. Supper nice and funny, will do anything to help you.
Professor Winston's classes are very organized and I can always learn a lot from her classes. Exams are open-book and can be completed within 48 hours. Not much homework. I get a quick answer every time I send her an email. All my friends who have taken her courses think she is a very good professor. Strongly recommend you to take her class!
Very good at explaining economic concepts in detail. Learned a lot in a short time. Gave option to have no homework or attendance if desired (exams 75% of grade, recitation assignments 25%) with recorded or live lectures. Exams can be hard, but they are open book as of now.
If you take her class, it will be better to be self-disciplined and be good at self-studying. Her final was not really easy, and it was harder than the previous exams. She talks fast in class, and sometimes her notes are ambiguous. Whenever I email her, she replied to me in 24 hours. Overall, she's quite an understandable professor to students.
I had Professor Winston for both ECO181 and 205. ECO181 is a 4 credit course so of course it was harder when compared with 205 which is a 3 credit course. Both courses' material was SUPER organized. Her lectures are just so great that even if it is asynchronous you would finish the whole video. Her reviews for exams was super useful too.
Professor Winston is very patient and helpful! She response to my email within few hours, and she explain every economy concept in details, Love it!
Professor Winston is amazing! She cares a lot about her students & her class is very organized. She always responds to emails & gives good feedback. She genuinely enjoys teaching, is very understanding of her students & is fair. Literally no cons. If you aren't doing too well she will always be there to help! Take her class, you won't regret it :)
Very forgiving and fair professor. It's hard to go wrong with Dr. Winston teaching you. Even if you mess up, you will have plenty of opportunities to bring your grades back up.
It was so hard to even gain a homework grade. So much! sometimes it's better to keep it nice and simple so students can understand...
Is way too hard about grading and the tests. Put's too much effort into the lectures which isn't useful when she doesn't ask the same things on the exams. Horrible class.
She is still the best professor in Economic department at UB. She can respond any email of students within 5 minutes even though she has more than 250 students. She will give you lot of option to do better in class. The material is hard so you have to be in touch with the material by doing HW and recitation assignment.
Dr. Winston is a very organized and caring professor. She is very open to adjusting how she lectures and structures the class to help students when necessary. Just be ready to learn because this class is very material heavy.
I decided to take this as my pathway as an engineering major. Worst decision, she treats the class as if its the only class we take, I had to focus more on technical courses, but this class wants all your focus, be prepared to do a lot of work and not be rewarded for it. It has the worst grading system, you will not be compensated for ur effort.
the overall class is fine and she's a nice and cool person and all but her grading system is the stupidest thing you'll ever come across and makes its so hard to get an A in the class. The tests have info that you never learned too.
Her test is broken up into 2 parts. In the first part, you need an 85% to pass then you will be able to take the next part. If you are someone that makes tiny mistakes during exams DO NOT take this class because if you get 2-3 wrong then that is a fail. The only good thing about this is that you get 3 attempts to get a passing grade.
Overall she is a nice professor but her class was just very hard to reach a high grade. I give it 3 points just because she's nice. The exams are tough and I'm planning to drop this class already.
The only people who hate her are the people who dont study. She allows retakes for like everything, more than once, which is awesome. Shes very organized, very professional, and explains things clearly. Theres a textbook thats technically not required but highly recommended.
Theres was so much going on in this class but the professor was good with clearing things up and announcements. She organized and allows for resubmission on some assignments. The grading criteria is a bit confusing though.
You would have to put in more effort to fail this class than it takes to pass. Professor Winston's lectures are clear, concise, and relevant to the present macroeconomy which keeps them engaging. No surprises on exams, useable recitation assignments and homework, there is no wasted or unfair material in this course. Show up, have a pulse, pass.
Don't think her grading is fair 85% to pass anything in her class, her recitations are pointless and I didn't learn a thing from her
I took microeconomics with Winston. She is a very nice professor who is funny. We have to buy the textbook but no one reads it. Material isn't super easy, but if you spend 2-4 hours a week outside of class you should be good. 3 exams open book and optional final. Weekly homework assignments take about an hour. Overall would recommend!
Professor Winston has become one of my favorite professors at UB. I took her while deciding whether or not I would double major. Her lectures are very clear, she explains the content and her expectations of you very well. Though her tests are pretty hard, she will work with you to make sure you have a way to do well in her class via hw or something
Very good professor, one of my all time favorites. She is engaging and cares about the content she is presenting. Everything is explained well and she will clarify everything. I recommend you take her courses, I have been waiting to take another one of her classes since mine ended.
Dr. Winston is an amazing professor and really makes sure you understand the material. Although the grading criteria was very weird, she gives a lot of chances to bring your grade up to passing and beyond. The Class should be easy if you take the pre lectures seriously.
Grading system is awful, TA's have no idea how to grade and give no feedback on below exception assignment, just pretty much leaves you out to dry. Work out the wazoo and if God forbid you miss 1 lecture or miss something she says in class, its over for you. I would say if there is another option in professor than take it.
I love Winston and she is a really good professor!! Her class is worth attending for all, she teaches very carefully and replies to emails very fast!!
Wasn't a very easy class and can't say I loved the professor. She is very clear with grading and there are plenty of assignments that help you raise your grade, even for exams. I just thought she was kind of lame and not the nicest to me. Still managed to get an A though
Her class is not bad, the problem is that she gives only 3 tests and that is your grade. All of the extra homework that is given doesn't do anything to help your grade. I had a rough time with her class.
Her lectures are pretty clear and organized, and she is very kind. However, her tests can be hard! so I recommend reading textbook before and after lecture, watching pre-lecture videos, do all hw, attend review session before exams, then you should be fine.
one of the most organized professors. her lectures were clear and exams are open book open notes. it's a 4 credit course but you only need to spend 3-4 hours or less per week to figure out the concept since you don't really have to memorize everything. Not hard if you want an A, just put in some effort and she'll help.
Would take again, tough tests but amazing at teaching the material and easy to grasp lectures
Professor Winston is very kind and enthusiastic about what she teaches, which helps keep people engaged. She tends to give a lot of information during lectures which can be overwhelming, and her notes can be disorganized and hard to follow at times. But overall she taught the material well and the course itself was relatively easy.
Professor Winston is about a 3.5 if that was an option. Lectures are long and very informational. Tests are somewhat difficult with how much information you need to remember throughout the unit but they were open notes. Do every extra credit opportunity that you can.
The pre class assignments are helpful if you pay attention to them. the lectures can be boring but make sure to take good notes because all tests are open notes. She offers significant extra credit opportunities that you should definitely take advantage of.
Professor was very nice but her exams kill you and the way she asks them is very extra for a 100-level class. Lots of EC if you show up and do the work. She also gives test corrections
Great lectures that are information heavy. Hard tests but allows for corrections
After taking both ECO181 and 182 with Dr. Winston, I must say she's a great professor and I enjoyed her classes both times. Everything like the textbook, pre lecture videos, and homework is included with Achieve so that's nice and I'm also glad she slightly changed her grading system. She is a great and caring professor who wants to see us succeed.
Teachers enjoy teaching the class, record all lectures, can make up recitations, but you must do good on tests to pass the class however, can retake tests during finals week
She has some of the most disorganized and confusing lectures. She abbreviates nearly every word and you can barely read her terrible hand writing. She also never uses graphs that are to scale so you can't even tell whats going on in them. The only reason I have an "A" is because I practically teach myself the material. Stay away, she is awful.
Tests were pretty challenging. Make sure to study and not wait till the last minute.
This is the second time I've taken one of professor Winston's courses. She's a solid professor that gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. If you can handle 80 minutes of note taking and iClicker questions then you'll be fine. As long as you show up and do the work you should have no problem getting an A. Tests are open notes as well.
Great prof.
Comparing this class to ECO181 with Monica Litzenberger, the amount of work is significantly larger and easier. You do have to put in more effort to go to lectures/recitations. Professor Winston was wonderful in explaining the concepts and the exams were easy as long as you pay attention during lectures. All 3 exams are open notes as well.
Dr. Winston is great for eco181. You have to go to every lecture because those notes will be on exams. Homework is due before class online which is easy . You have to purchase a one time fee for the online course to do your work . Just do the work and take notes and you'll be fine. She gives opportunity to retake exams if you don't like your score.
Although the material may not be particularly challenging, it is essential to note that the instructor has exceedingly high expectations of their students. The weekly homework assignments require no less than six hours of intensive work and there is a semester project. Despite being open-note, the exam is incredibly difficult.
Please avoid this class.
W Proffesor take her for eco 182 and 181
Avoid Aisling Winston's class. Harsh grading, no curve, and disappointing results despite the effort. Find a professor who values fairness and student success. Your academic journey deserves better. This class significantly affected my GPA. Overall harsh grading style, and lack of a curve, work will be scrutinized, leading to disappointing results.
I took her class in spring 2020.That semester was chaotic due to the start of covid.she showed no empathy for students who struggled with their lives due to covid and still thinks she played fair game to others!used another textbook to create lecture slides while asked us to read another one which end up with the conflict in chapter order. Terrible
Dr. Winston is a really good economics professor. Microeconomics is a harder course but taking it with her has made it somewhat more easy. She writes notes along with us in class. All tests are open notes and you can retake any during finals week. You can tell she truly cares about her students. My only con on her is her handwriting is messy!
Amazing profesor, gives lecture with energy and excitement. 3 midterm and then final is a retake opportunity to improve the midterm grade. The best thing about her exams is that it's open notes, you can print out as many as paper you want for the exams. But be ready to take notes because she sometimes might get little fast if you don't let her know
AMAZING PROFESSOR
She is one of the best professors at UB. Although her lectures can sometimes contain a lot of information, she makes it all presentable and conceptually easy to understand. "Achieve" is expensive, but the pre-lectures help a ton! A fair grading structure results in many students achieving their grade goals.
Please take Aisling Winston! I have taken Dr. Winston for both ECO 181 and ECO 182 and she is an amazing choice. She really preps you for all the tests. She gives out a lot of extra credit and make sure to purchase Achieve because it really makes your grade go up in her class. Go to office hours because she really cares about her students!
She is the best professor I've ever had and I had her for eco181 and 182. There's weekly homework and extra credit and all of her resources have helped me get good grades. She makes lectures interesting and is very engaging. Definitely take her class
step 1: take notes (it is important cause u need use these notes in exam) step2: finish every presentation (and any class work with Homework) (don't forget extra credit they are so much) step3: If u have any problem just ask, she (she is so friendly) step4: use notes check in exam. step5: earn a very easy A
Had her for Macro this semester and she was great. You need to go to class and take good notes- but if you do that, you'll be fine. You get extra credit for doing learning curves, and simply filling out the extra credit recitation quiz. The tests are extremely similar to the ones that she will review with the class. Excited to have Winston again.
A good teacher that knows how to teach the material in an engaging manner. If needed, utilize her office hours as they are very good and helpful. She uses iClicker so attendance is mandatory and gives you a lot of resources to review and study, including recorded lectures. Prepare for a bigger workload than other classes, especially homework.
Eh. Good professor. Extremely boring. Pretty nice. Talks too fast. A little odd. Had a quiz on the syllabus. She uses iClicker which I don't like. Overall, she was alright. Probably wouldn't take her again if given the chance since her class made me feel like slamming my head against the desk out of boredom.
I had to take this class to fulfill a requirement and wasn't interested in the course. From that perspective, it was pretty difficult. All homework is essentially optional if you don't feel like spending $150 on Achieve, but then your grade is completely dependent on attendance, recitation quizzes, and tests.
Very nice professor. She can definitely go on tangents and talk about things no important to the class, but you can tell she's very enthusiastic about what she's teaching. She takes notes as she lectures to make sure she doesn't go too fast and all exams are open note!!
Macro with her was super easy. All 3 tests were open note and the final exam is optional. Tests are important but not very difficult. Would recommend taking macro with her.
Very knowledgeable and engaging, explains things in a clear and concise way and very open to questions. Always available for office hours and homework help, 3 exams are open note as long as you pay attention in lectures and take detailed notes you will do fine. Would recommend getting Achieve, especially if you take Micro with her as well.
Lectures were boring. Tests open notes.
lectures are extremely boring but there are useful notes that you will need to write down, you could get 3 average grades on exams and still get a B, taking ECO182 with her and it's pretty much the same class all over again would recommend but be ready to be bored in class
Guys I'm halfway through Macro and it has been so easy to maintain good exam scores. I currently have an A and everything is graded on HW, exams, recitation quizzes, and participation in iClickers. Her lectures are very easy to follow along. She takes notes and lectures are recorded. Exams have unlimited open-notes!! So excited for Micro with her!
had macro with her and im still doing average on her classes but that's on me it's really not a difficult class but you need to go to class and recitations to actually learn exams are open note and easy, would recommend
Never paid attention in class because the exams are completely open notes, and she practically gives you half the test answers online. Some of the most boring lectures you'll ever experience if you're not majoring in economics. Winston herself is nice, just a little over-enthusiastic about the class.
Prof Winston was great. Her lectures were engaging even in large classes, and her usage of iClicker, even though it made it so attendance was mandatory, helped greatly to keep me paying attention. Homework wasn't bad, although it was a bit difficult to first understand what was expected. She was enthusiastic and always came into class excited.
Not the biggest fan of economics, but she made it fun. Even if you do terrible on your exams you can make them up. Straightforward lectures that you can watch outside of class. LOTS of outside help. Cares about what she teaches and is lively in class :) If you've never taken Econ TAKE HER!!
I took both Winston and Downs for econ classes and as much as I liked them both, I preferred Downs' style of lecture. The class was easy with low effort homework and quizzes each week with plenty of extra credit available. The tests are open note but do require a bit of studying along with them.
i loved her teaching style, lets you make up exams and quizzes and quizzes are collaborative. would recommend over other eco teachers ive had
i would take her again , she was nice and helpful when it came to talking about stuff you didnt understand
I would definitely take her again because she was a very enthusiastic professor with an incredibly strong passion for all things economics. Only issues I'd say is the small amount of tests (only 3). This makes each test count more than they should. Other than that, do the homework on time and take good notes (exams are open note).
Her lecture style is a bit crazy. She will bounce around from topic to topic but her exams are just like her practice exams.
Prof. Winston is always super joyful and passionate about economics. If you are not a good test taker, I would recommend other professors (her 3 exams together is 60% of your overall grade). The exams are like practice exams.
(ECO 493) AWESOME PROFFESSOR and class! Had very rough semester losing my right hearing, and then my grandma and Professor Winston was nothing but an extraordinary human/professor. The classwork is VERY doable if you do the readings before class, take great notes for the quizzes which are open note and follow the guidelines for the policy briefs.
