Meena is the best instructor ever! Although her discussion quizzes are harder, they are still doable. She really cares about teaching the material, and will help you a lot if you go to her office hours. She's also a very nice and compassionate person.
She didnt teach what was on her tests and only taught us the basics (like comment below) Usually Finals are easier and more general compared to previous exams..ESPECIALLY if we had only ONE MONTH of the course..BUT not MEENA..her final was harder than all the tests before and included problems we never seen before..she has no heart..and i hate her
Very helpful but also very difficult grader and explanations can be wordy and advanced. She is near the top of the physics department and doesnt play favorites which is nice. Good teacher, cares about students, difficult... but EVERY physics course is. I should know since i am a physics major.
Great professor. Quiz questions come straight out of the textbook. Easy class too. Unfortunately she doesn't keep to pace. Tends to go off on a tangent about physics but it's interesting. Preparedness for tests: 90%. Funny professor. Very intelligent. Helpful; answers questions through email; available. May get boring at times.
In my opinion, Meena should be teaching in a high school. She doesn't trust her TAs do teach their classes properly, and as a result she frequently hovers and downright interrupts classes if she thinks things aren't being done exactly the way she thinks they should be done. Her lectures are also particularly soothing and sleep-inducing.
No no no..I lived off of my discussion professor and awesome lab TAs..She's a very nice lady and she tries her best...but it didn't work for me..especially since I've never taken physics before, her explanations felt just incomprehensible for thefirst few weeks... =[ Oh, and her slides looked like she scanned the textbook... read book in advance!
Terrible lecturer, she just puts up cluddered slides and talks to herself. Incredibly nice woman, horrible teacher, for a difficult subject.
When I read the comments about her being a good teacher I was disgusted. I am a very good student and I was not able to learn a thing from this class. I was always frustrated during class, while doing homework and didn't even know where to begin to study for exams because of how bad of a teacher she is. DO NOT take her class.
She is the worst teacher I've ever had. Switch out of her class immediately if you registered for her. She scans the textbook and presents it in the form of a powerpoint in class, reads slides, only does examples once in a while and does not help during office hours. She is rude, unapproachable and can't teach to save her life.
Meena is a terrible teacher who takes her slides directly from the book and then reads off the slides throughout the entire lecture, never bothering to explain or go into greater depth. When asked a question she'll often act like the student is idiotic and has not been paying attention. She seems to not care one bit about the course or the students
Meenakshi is EVIL/stay away/if you care about learning or passing, her lectures will just screw you by confusing you more/she likes to pick on people indirectly in a direct way/she does not like student consultation at all/iClickers are a must/there are more quiz questions than lecture material/she doesn't even let you sleep in peace :(
Avoid at all costs. I'm serious, it's that bad. Drop the course if you need to. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
I adimit that her class is hard. However, I think, personally, if you prepare hard enough before her class, then the lecture will become a wonderful class. Also, she is very helpful. I went to her office hour many times, and she replied all I wanted to hear about. Moreover, she has nice personality. She is one of the best professor ever I had.
I ended up teaching myself this entire course through the textbook. It was extremely difficult to pay attention in lecture. The professor is unapproachable. Save your GPA and time and take it at a different school. Phys 1 was great at my old school.
Meenakshi is an okay professor. She just doesn't have that connection with the students while lecturing. Reads off slides, doesn't keep students engaged in the lecture. It's too easy to zone in to space or fall asleep. I depended completely on the textbook, and friends who were good at physics to learn. If you can, take Sileo instead.
One of the worst professors at Binghamton. Avoid her class if possible. If you have any interest in physics... DONT TAKE HER CLASS, If you want to learn about physics... DONT TAKE HER CLASS. If you have any other choice of professor and must take this class... TAKE THIS CLASS WITH A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR. You have been warned.
On the lecture, she was always explaining concepts to herself, regardless if the students understand or not. And lecture goes extremely fast. If you have not learned those stuff before, that will be your night mire. Personally, she is mean. Once i went to her office hour with a problem. She said, "you should have know this, go to look at your note
Like most other science professors, Prof. Meenakshi will throw a powerpoint off and proceed to teach off that while talking in a monotone voice. Sometimes she even turns her back to screen and simply reads derivations off of it! She over-explains concepts and fails to stimulate interest in her students.
She talks to herself more than all the time during lecture. When she writes formulas down or draws anything on the projector, it doesn't even show up on the screen. She goes through the slides really quickly. She repeats things over and over and over and over and over and did I mention she repeats things? I think that's all I learn in her lectures.
Her lectures are very boring but her tests are totally doable. If you study the textbook, you'll do fine on the tests. But she's really nice.
Possibly one of the worst professors I have ever had. You can study for hours and tests have little to no correlation to what you study. Cluttered slides and horrid lecturer. Nice woman but its sad how she is even allowed to run such an integral course for every freshman engineer
She is the worst professor I have had so far. She doesn't know English, she doesn't know physics and the questions she asks must have been translated through the worst online free translator because they make no sense. I am glad the semester is over. She also makes i-Clicker points mandatory so you have to go to her boring class.
She is horrible. Speaks english very poorly, avoid at all costs. If you did not take highschool physics your screwed. The class is all self taught from the textbook book because you can not get anything out of her mandatory lectures.
Very poor lecture slides, textbook also terribly difficult to understand, almost no support, other than google. Both TA's for the class came to america this semester and barely speak english, professors language barrier is also irritating. iClicker makes the boring useless lecture mandatory and the questions are random.
Just look at the 15+ other reviews that explain the reason why you shouldn't take this class with this professor! All the material on lecture slides comes from the textbook which is already dry and unhelpful, and then is degraded further by the fact that it is being taught by someone who can't teach. Average on the last two tests was 45 and 50.
One of the worst classes I've ever taken in my life. Tests are much harder than any practice problems, and the final is impossible. Your grade does not reflect how many hours you put into studying; it is extremely frustrating. She says if you go to lecture you don't have to study - what a joke. Prepare for a 30% test average with no curve.
This lady is just awful. She allots time awfully. There isn't nearly enough time for the long, hard calculus chapters, and she barely teaches them. Also she gives I-clicker questions on stuff you haven't learned yet. Every sentence she says seems to drag on so long that you forget what she said a few words ago. I could go on and on about her.
TERRIBLE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Meenakshi is very sweet when you go to her office hours. This class is extremely difficult and requires a lot of time. You have online homework every week that takes a long time. Tests are almost impossible.
Worst class I took. Only reason I did well in this class was because of the curve. One of the test averages for spring semesters class was a 30 so that shows a lot. Anyways, if you can take this class in another school and transfer the credits, DO IT! save your gpa and time.
Meenakshi is pretty good, you really have to do a lot of work on your own though. She expects you to read the textbook before lecture and after lecture and do hours and hours of homework each week. There's no lab write ups and the labs are super easy and thankfully they curve the tests and the entire class. She's a bit intimidating but was helpful
AWFUL. Worst class I have ever taken. Meenakshi explains concepts horribly and I found it pointless to even attend lecture. She's also very hard to understand and sometimes the jokes she makes are rude. She's always looking for respect from the class and will often stop class until she gets it. This class is awful, avoid her if possible (good luck)
Unclear and seemingly endless lectures, made mandatory by the for-credit iClicker questions. She doesn't seem to be aware of how little anyone understands her. Tests are hard, and when she writes them, unclear. Homework was long, but that and your textbook are really your only hope in this class. Also a massive time sink if you want to do well.
Awful professor. Avoid at all costs. She will ruin your GPA. This class is a complete waste of time. Read the textbook and hope that you can get a 30% on the exam. She is the worst professor at Binghamton.
I can normally handle professors that other students tend to hate, and I loved physics last semester (went to a different school.) Meenakshi, however, made me completely hate the subject. Lectures are horribly boring, and MasteringPhysics is by far the worst website I have ever used for online homework. Avg.'s on last 3 tests were 52, 56, and 52
shes terrible. smart woman but very condescending
Extremely boring lectures and very condescending. She will criticize students for getting questions wrong but almost never explain the correct answer. Also be prepared to be treated like you're in the 2nd grade again. She takes away phones and stops teaching if only a few people are talking. Help yourself and avoid her.
Very boring lectures, only point of attending is for clicker questions. Tests are ridiculously hard and the problems are nothing like the homework or examples in class and discussion. Overall one of the worst teachers I've ever had.
Truly one of the worst professors I've ever had here. She gives incredibly long and boring lectures and is very condescending to people who don't understand the material. The tests are extremely complicated and the examples given in class and homework rarely help to prepare. Try to avoid her at all cost because she will ruin your GPA.
Her tests are the hardest thing I've ever done. She's the worst. Class average for engineers was 36.
Hard class, tough professor with tough grading.
I actually took a physics class in a different school just so i wouldnt have to deal with her again. 0/10 would not recommend.
If you want to survive 131/132 you need to go to tutoring at least once a week. Meenakshi is a pretty OK prof, but she makes it terrifying to answer questions in class for fear of messing up in front of others. I sat in the back and out of the way, and even then she called me out once. Also, DO NOT fall asleep in her class. She will roast you.
Tests are the majority of your grade, so you can get away with not doing the homework, which took me and my friends an average of 5-6 hours while working together-- if that is, you are confident you can pass the exams. The class average for engineers was usually 50-60. I had to rely on my knowledge from high school physics rather than lectures.
AVOID! Take Physics at a different school, save your gpa. She's a horrible professor
Lectures seem to last forever. She speaks in a hard-to-understand, monotone voice that turns any effort to listen to lecture into a grueling nightmare. Makes no effort to make lectures engaging nor the concepts interesting, and instead drones on and on then wonders why averages on quizzes and exams are always so low. Avoid at all costs.
I walked out of this class not knowing how to spell 'physics' anymore
Avoid her at all costs. I took physics 2 over the summer and it was the best decision i've ever made
It's simple, want to tank your GPA take this class. I always had an interest in physics but after having her for two semesters I never want to deal with physics again. Lectures are useless, you learn more from your lab and discussion TA. The class isn't worth it, the curve is pretty good, but you would much rather take this course over the summer.
The absolute worst possible teacher I have ever met. I adored physics all throughout high school, and then I met her. She's rude, and just mumbles during lectures, making them completely useless, but they are mandatory as iClicker Points are needed.
She shows a blatant disregard for her students well being. she just doesn't care. she's unpleasant and rude. she is also incredibly difficult to understand. her lectures are not helpful. The TA's do a better job teaching in the discussions than she does in lectures.
She just reads off the slides and then makes the clicker questions on stuff that we haven't learned yet. Homework is online twice a week (takes about 3 hours per assignment) on top of all of the studying/ reading you need to do in order to pass any of the quizzes/tests. 3 quizzes per week as well :) and the tests are unreasonably difficult.
Terrible Teacher. She is rude. She can't convey the topics well at all, if you want a class where you get read at then this is the one. I honestly believe she wants everyone to fail rather than succeed. The TAs are the real professors in this course. Garbage Teacher. BE WARNED
Pain is temporary but this thing has scarred me for life.
she's awful, but you wont realize that until well after the add/drop. take this class somewhere else or tank your gpa. absolutely avoid at all costs if you're pre med.
She's friendly but not the best prof. The class is poorly set up. Very exam heavy and the exams are next to impossible. If you do decide to take it, do the homework!
Meenakshi herself isn't a terrible professors(not too bad not too great). The main problems with the course is the workload. There are 3 lectures, 2 discussions, and 1 lab per week where each discussion has a quiz. There were 3 masteringphysics hws with 20 questions each due a week. All these class times and hws just make you done with physics.
She reads off the slides and walks around the room like a hawk. If she catches you not paying attention or talking at all she will stop the lecture and wait for the interuption to stop. She does not like interuptions. She is not at all engaging and fails to help studnets gather a real understanding of physics. In general take Physics not in Bing!!!
Unfortunately, I can't rate her any lower than a 1. Don't take physics in Bing.
she is very bad. these reviews are spot on but I thought the course was just challenging. It isn't. Phys 131 is very doable as long as she's not the one teaching it to you. She is inconsiderate and seems to take pleasure in insulting people.
She is the worst professor I have ever had. In lecture she reads directly off of the slides, and speaks so softly you cannot hear her. I went to her office hours for help on a homework problem and she got it wrong twice and it took her 30 min. You will have to learn things primarily in discussion and on your own.
Doing this class online (Spring 2020) was the worst. She deleted all lecture materials after 48 hours and was incredibly inflexible. She screwed up an exam such that the images didn't show up and then blamed us for it + made us retake it. She claims there's a normalization but out of a class of 300 someone always gets a 100 so there's no curve.
I had Physics with Meenakshi and the most frustrating thing about Physics 131 at Binghamton University is how the exams are curved. If one person out of the three hundred something students taking physics gets a 100 on an exam, there is no curve, even if the person with the second-highest score ate crow. Phys 131 is fine here but you have to work..
Don't take physics 2 with her. Physics 1 is easy enough, but Physics 2 is impossible.
She basically reads off her powerpoint slide and was not very accommodating towards students during the pandemic. She still insisted that we should take our exams until the school shut her down. The only reason you go to lectures are to do the iclicker questions. Textbooks and youtube videos are your friend. Avoid if you can.
Hard to understand what her talking about and just read her power point
Tells students to ask more questions during lectures then gets mad at the questions that students ask. Very unhelpful when iclicker is not working, (doesn't care if you lose points because it is not working on the apps end). Not enough time to complete quizzes thouroghly. When ask to explain in lecture, does not give helpful new explanation.
I am not a fan on Meenakashi. Her lectures are taken directly out of the textbook and are not explained any further which makes it difficult to pay attention and understand the material. Her tests are very difficult due to the time constraint and I don't believe they evaluate you based on how well you know the material, just how quickly it is done.
Just awful. One of the worst professors I have ever taken.
Worst class I have ever taken. She is riding on her tenure so much, and shows absolutely NO enthusiasm for teaching or for caring about the subjects she is teaching. She reads exactly what's on the slides of her powerpoints during lecture, adds very little, and when giving the answer to iClicker, seldom gives reason for the answer or tries to help.
Disrespectful to students, horrible lectures, and unaccommodating during an online semester. Refused to ever record lectures or post notes (even though lectures would only consist of her reading off a PowerPoint slide), and never responds to student emails, saying "I don't have enough time to respond to students". Would give her a 0/5 if I could.
Never experienced a complete disregard for student success. Words can't express how much hatred I had for her taking the class. Tons of homework, hardest exams I've ever taken, and reads the slides, Word. For. Word. If you can, take it elsewhere, FLCC has a good reputation. Would give her a 0/5. This review doesn't do justice. Avoid at all costs!
Absolutely Abhorrent. Avoid at all costs. Reads off of slides, word for word. Doesn't take the time to post lecture slides or recordings. We, for some reason, still use MasteringPhysics, a widely considered poor homework software. Had to take this class for my major, was really hoping to avoid. Save yourself!!
Easily the worst physics professor. She couldnt care less about her students. Ive emailed her multiple times with concerns and she either doesnt answer or gives the most robotic response. She literally just reads off slides, which have been copied and pasted directly from the textbook. I think grades are luckily curved at the end.
Take physics at fingerlakes community college or literally anywhere else unless you have a good background in physics or are willing to put in 5 hours a day. That's it.
She puts no effort into teaching. Is incredibly unreceptive to questions. She once said in response to a question "how have you gotten this far and don't know that" then scoffed and moved on without answering the question. The tests are unreasonably hard and you will have no clue what will be on them. AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS. TAKE ELSEWHERE!
Doesn't know how to teach.
132 is a DIFFICULT class. To add insult to injury, Meenakshi communicates the material poorly in lectures. Test averages were regularly in the 40s. If you want to see success in this course, you have to take action and put in the work. Discussion and the TAs are your biggest tool. ATTEND OFFICE HOURS. Dont be lazy, you wont be spoonfed here.
Literally the worst teacher I've had in my entire life. She is completely unable to communicate the information to struggling students. She is not receptive to questions at all. She is occasionally insulting and does not seem to want to be teaching. The class is already very difficult and she makes it seem impossible. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Horrible. Just horrible. Can't teach, can be snappy, and really puts no effort into lectures. Recommend looking into taking physics off campus. Physics department here is a joke.
terrible
The mastering physics assignments are ridiculous. Be prepared to purchase a Chegg subscription. She is a monotone teacher and she is horrible at teaching. The tests are very hard due to the lack of learning in her class. You will have to go to tutoring to learn.
One would assume a doctor of physics would be able to explain even the simplest of topics, unfortunately, this is not the case. I used myself as a guinea pig and learned that my test grade actually improved by 20 points after ignoring her counterintuitive dialect. I apologize to those who must partake in this treacherous excuse of a physics class.
Part two: There's no point in listening to the lecture. She reads from the slides and half the time she moves too fast for you to understand. The physics department needs a whole restructuring. After Chapter 15, you relearn CHEM 111 topics. Also, I wanna be smoking whatever the grader of these test must be smoking. You lose a lot of points.
I have never seen a teacher with such a disregard for student success. She reads directly off of the slides and can be very rude. The class itself should be avoided at all costs if you do not have a good physics background.
This class is very frustrating! The lectures are bad because the professor DIRECTLY reads off the slides . Plus, the slides do not even help because they are just notes copied from the textbook. It feels impossible to learn because the professor fails to communicate the information to the students. The exams are difficult and there is a lot of hw!
Try to avoid this course. It is very frustrating, and she is not good at her job. Frequently just reads off the lecture slides and could be fooling me on her knowledge of the subject this entire time. Little to no personality, and hard to understand. Hard for me to even keep a straight face in her presence.
Her lectures are useless. Homework is two times a week and takes about 2 hours per homework. The averages on tests are around 50. She just doesn't know how to teach.
Just bad. Please take this course outside of Binghamton
TAKE THIS COURSE AT BROOME. She cannot teach
I saw the warnings about her before the year. I ignored them. Don't. I stopped answering questions in class because when I got one wrong she'd repeat my answer as if I had no idea what I was talking about. I did horribly, and while I can't blame it all on her, I stuck it through, put my nose to the grindstone, and did even worse. One word: Avoid.
You will really have to dedicate your whole life to physics if you take this class. Lectures were a waste of time, and you really have to go chapter by chapter and learn the material yourself. Meenakshi does not like to help you out with anything and tends to have very sassy remarks. Please avoid this class as much as possible.
This course is possibly one of the worst I have ever taken. I spent hours studying and doing the HWs, but to no avail. For any indication, I have gotten an A in every course over the past two semesters except for this one. The lectures are useless and the final was nothing short of impossible. How this course is still offered is beyond me.
It should be illegal to have to take this course with these professors. It is arguably the worst in the world. Save yourself the trouble and take it elsewhere.
Take elsewhere. This course is the worst class I've taken here. Read the other reviews if you don't belive me.
If you don't have a strong prior knowledge of physics, you are pretty much screwed.
Had to learn everything from the textbook and go to my TA's office hours. Tests were hard and the average was usually 50-55. Not really sure how people are supposed to build a good foundation for physics when most of the class fails the tests. Good luck if you have to take this class and I highly recommend taking Phy 132 over the summer!
Avoid her at all costs
She is genuinely the worst in every way shape and form. She is difficult to understand, can not properly answer questions, and does not include any information or materials from lectures online. Because of these things, it is difficult to study for her exams as your knowledge is dependent on the textbook which only partially aligns with her tests.
She just reading the notes during calss time
I could not bring myself to pay attention to her extremely boring and monotonous lectures. The material is difficult and boring. She is not engaging whatsoever. Extremely tough courses which I am glad are over.
Among the worst professors anyone has encountered. Impossible to understand her lectures, her tests are abnormally difficult and she shows 0 leniency.
Please. Take this at broome
I simply do not understand how she is still teaching. She is disrespectful towards students and does not answer questions properly. She does not attempt to help her students and simply reads the slides during lectures. In order to succeed in her class, you must do work outside of class. Lectures are useless, but discussions and TAs are helpful.
She is absolutely awful. During lecture, you CANNOT hear her both because of her accent and because she talks EXTREMELY QUIETLY. When you ask questions she is rude and disrespectful. She just reads off the slides too which are extremely unhelpful on their own. The homework assignments are massive, difficult, and frequent!
Professor Meenakshi (if I can even give her that amount of respect) might be one of the worst teachers I have ever had. You can barely hear her in lecture, she just reads off the slides (which she leaves half blank on Brightspace), and gives 6+ hours of homework a week. Don't know how she has a job. Literally had to teach her in class that 2x2=4
She was one of the best professors I've ever experienced. Tests were really easy and I never even took high school physics. Class averages were high(30s) and homework was not time-consuming at all(4+ hours a day). I'm about to take the final and I'm sure I'm gonna get an amazing grade(C-). Would take it again !!!!!
Prof. Meenakshi will be the reason why students will hate physics. If you get her, it's over for you. Please trust every single horror post you see about her. I got nightmares from this course even after it ended. She will belittle you like you never even exist and reads every equation on lectures word for word (instead of teach them efficiently).
Could be the worst professor at Binghamton. Test averages were in the 30's, homework took hours on end, note slides were left blank in lecture, and discussions were a joke. She is extremely rude and hard to understand. Unless you have to take this class here, take it online elsewhere.
Worst professor ever. It was impossible to learn the material or retain any information in lecture. Discussions were a joke and I was forced to teach myself everything through the textbook or through getting tutored. Be prepared to spend the entire semester stressing over this one class.
Worst professor in binghamton university. By all means possible, do not take her class.
don't. please don't i should've known better when her rating was 1.4 take it somewhere else i swear it's not a waste of money please don't take her class
Meenakshi is the worst lecturer I've encountered. She has a massive ego which prevents her from teaching concepts in a meaningful way, and doubles down by having the most boring and dispassionate lectures I've ever attended. Maybe this could change if she taught the class with some heart, rather than spitting out the textbook word for word.
It is very difficult to do well in this class. If you want to do well, read the chapters before lecture, take good notes during lecture even though she goes fast, and do a bunch of practice problems especially the discussion ones. Also, GO TO THE HELP SESSIONS BEFORE EXAMS. They helped me the most to do somewhat well on the tests.
She's quite literally the worst professor I've ever had. I wanted to avoid her but she was the only one teaching PHYS 131 when I had to take it. She mumbles during lecture, is condescending when someone asks a question, and explained concepts horribly. The tests were awful, all the class averages were less than 60%
If I had to describe this woman in one word, it would be "frustrating". Lectures with her are like dragging nails on a chalkboard, wherein rather than using the screen and projector to display her calculations and graphs, she uses the blackboard and writes in size 3 font. She also refuses to post slides, so pray you develop a photographic memory.
Genuinely the worst educator I've ever seen. She is even worse than these reviews make it seem. Lectures consist of her quietly reading through slides (not posted online) verbatim and getting rude if someone is confused or asks a question. 8+ hrs of HW per week. Labs are a bit unorganized but not difficult, no prelab. Discussion TA was a lifesaver!
Terrible, avoid, take at Fingerlakes if possible
The worst teacher. No passion for teaching, reads directly off slides in monotonous voice. Lectures are mandatory and utterly useless. I was lucky to get an amazing Discussion TA and therefore I may receive an A. All of the test averages are 50-60 or below. Physics 131 isn't the hardest course which makes learning on your own bearable but yeesh.
Mumbles when reading off the slides, no articulation in her voice. Does not give material outside of class besides half covered slides. When solving example problems there is no explanation and she solves it like she's reading a slide. Don't expect to ask a question without getting laughed at. Avoid her at all cost it's not worth the stress.
If you can take it somewhere else, do it. Class averages on tests are constantly below 60, lectures are useless, she is degrading toward people who ask her questions, and she has no passion at all.
Teach you to fail
to call her a professor is disrespectful to all actual professors. if i can i would give her a 0/5 rating. with 20 years of experience she still cannot teach physics but instead teaches us how to fail and cope with the terrible exams and quizzes. she assigns homework on weekends and during finals week. WARNING TO EVERYONE: AVOID THIS CLASS.
Were the people who rated her anything above a 1 high or something?
"Ye who enter, abandon all hope." -Dante's Inferno
Just don't take physics at Bing. Prof. Meenakshi is a nice woman but her lectures are terrible. She just reads off the slides that have equations and diagrams and she doesn't explain anything. The only way to succeed in the class is to read the textbook and do tons of practice problems, because the lectures DO NOT help. The exams aren't too hard.
Dr. Meenakshi moves quickly and to do well in this class, you NEED to be best buddies with your TA. Also, get help with misunderstanding IMMEDIATELY. If you did AP Physics in high school and did well this class will be fine. If not, you can easily pass if you pay attention and put in the work required.
I never once learned physics from Dr. Meenakshi during the course. I learned from my TA, study group, and from reading the textbook, but never from Dr. Meenakshi's sluggish, confusing lectures. The course itself is pretty hard, and Dr. Meenakshi doesn't help. Find out strategies to succeed early on, and you'll be okay.
Take it over the summer. Do not take physics here. Take it over the summer. Take. It over. The summer.
Definitely put in the work for Prof. Meenakshi's class - lectures can be tough, but the textbook and practice problems are key. Try using unstuck AI alongside other study tools like ChatGPT to prep for exams.
She talks way too slow and moves through the lecture slides way too fast. She never posts the full lecture slides, only skeleton notes. Missed something? Tough luck, apparently. She expects you to read the textbook basically daily, which never seems to help. Once she had a zoom meeting. Sent a private answer, called me out on it.
If you take physics at bing (which you should not), your best bet is using the textbook problems/tutoring. Dr. Meenakshi's lectures are of little help, and TA sections can be iffy. Grades are test heavy, so study test material heavily beforehand. It's a lot of pressure to succeed in this course, but it's doable in spite of Meenakshi's ineptitude
Don't. Only redeeming factor is the heavy curve applied at the end of semester to the curve. Get ready to self study a lot. Lab and discussion section were great.
The website to submit my homework wasn't working 2 hours before due. I emailed my her with a screenshot showing the issue. I kept checking, it never worked. The next day, I asked for an extension, but she refused, saying it's lesson to work earlier. If the deadline is 11:59 PM, why am I penalized for the site failing? Now I get a zero—unbelievable.
Just like everyone else said, "just don't take it here" but many (engineers) don't have a choice so if you have to the lectures are pretty useless, I'd recommend studying off the textbook and discussion quizzes. She flies through the slides, while talking slowly but semi coherently at least. Good luck
I cried while doing my physics homework last night... This class is extremely test heavy and the curve at the end is insane to account for the fact that she doesn't teach she rants.
wrote an email about the syllabus and gave me a very aggressive response. lectures are useless. uts, chatgpt, and organic chemistry tutor will teach you more than this prof will. google translate would be a better lecturer. if you have a good ta, go to their office hours.
The lectures are horrible. She mumbles through a slide show and doesn't explain anything she really just reads problems or equations without much explanation.
No. No. No. Pure hell. Nothing good to say. Lectures boring, posted slides, and not the ones she lectured on. She was of no help. All the TA's were awful. Best thing about this class is her talent of making you hate a subject that is needed as an engineer. Don't do it. Summer class if possible.
She is the worst professor I've ever had. She doesn't care about any of her students, whether they are failing or not. The last two test averages were 46 and 48 and they have to curve the entire class at the end of the semester in order to make sure enough people actually pass the class, on top of the crazy grade distribution where 85-100 is an A.
I would give a zero if I was allowed, but I cannot so I give a one. Meenakshi simply cannot teach the subject in a cohesive manner and it reflects in the averages for exams. The lectures are a pain to sit through, discussion sections can be a mess, and then when an exam is administered, it's like it's your day of reckoning. Do not take this course.
Before you take this course, please know that you will not learn during her lectures, she just reads through her slideshows and doesn't explain much of anything. As long as you have a good TA and actually do the homework you will do fine in the class. Also, be ready for her occasionally jokes during her lectures, they are quite hilarious.
Oh god, if you haven't taken physics before this, you're probably cooked. If you took physics before this, you are probably still cooked.
this course will just fail you no matter what you throw at it. She literally just reads off slides the entire semester. Lectures are insanely boring. There's a reason why the minimum grade to pass this course with a D is >45.1%. Not even bots can solve the HW assignments. Overall hardboiled and fried for the semester. Good luck.
“For a second I was almost jealous of the dead.” - Albert Camus
I would be failing this course if I hadn't taken ap physics 1
Avoid this class if you can! Lectures are just word-for-word textbook recaps with no real teaching. You're left to sink or swim, and alot sink...test averages were in the 40s. No support, no clarity, and zero engagement. This course made unnecessary hate for physics. Future engineers, do yourself a favor and plan ahead.
I was warned before taking this course that it was awful, I should take it through a different school. I unfortunately did not listen. The lectures are pointless, just go to get the iclicker points because the tests are always scored poorly unless you're a robot. The averages for the tests are not shared because they are so bad. have fun.
this class will tank your gpa. nice lady but hard. use uts. lectures are useless. be ready to stress all semester about this one class. you're screwed even if you took ap physics

The worst professor I've ever had at Binghamton. Didn't care about anyone at all. Never releases full lecture slides. Made a kid cry a couple times during lecture. Will shame you if you get IClicker quizzes wrong. Honestly, just take all physics classes somewhere else; the entire department is a mess.
Lectures are largely useless. She is unforgiving, speaks quietly, and rarely repeats herself. Prepare to get very well acquainted with the textbook, because it and the homework is where you'll be learning most of what you need.
There isn't really anything I can say that other's haven't said already, just try and take physics elsewhere. Meenakshi is a nice woman but she just isn't cut out to teach. Pay attention in discussion and do the homework without AI and you should be fine. Lectures aren't optional because of iClicker but you won't get anything out of going to them.
Lectures are useless but mandatory. Terrible teacher. Is not afraid to single someone out and shame them in the middle of the 200 person lecture. Tests are harder than they need to be. Averages were 40s on the tests. Overall bad experience.
no. if ur reading this, run away
Try to avoid this class if possible. Terrible professor, but the TAs are very helpful most of the time.
This lady's lectures were the most insufferable classes I've ever taken. She LOVES shaming people in front of the whole lecture, and is the type to say you cannot leave until SHE dismisses us. I only did well in this class because I took it in high school and I'm confident in it. If you're bad at that physics you are DOOMED.
This is the second semester I have had to take her. I will never do this stuff again she is such a sweet woman but such a poor teacher. All her slides don't match with the online material. She constantly singles people out in class. The exams in this class feel like they design them for you to fail!!!
Lectures are hard to follow, tests do not reflect what was taught
I'm not going to say much, just look at all the other reviews and know that they are speaking the truth about her.
Literal demon.
Do NOT take physics here, she will make you metaphorically spontaneously combust. You suddenly will crave turkey flavored ice cream root beer floats and biological waste(a very good combination if you no longer want to live, 10/10 would recommend). But don't just take my word for it! Take the course and find out for yourself :D
Terrible course and HORRIBLE lecturer. Please take it somewhere else. This course is just plain unfair with how the lectures/content and exams are formatted. I'd rather ************* than take this course again. (RMP censoring me, you can fill in the blanks with your imagination)
I will keep this very short. I took 131 and 132 with her, and I failed 131 twice. I did not show up to lecture at all or discussion quizzes because I thought they were pointless. Even if you don't learn anything from lecture or discussion, you genuinely need every single point possible. I got a D in 132 because I didn't go to class, and I regret it
DO NOT TAKE. really bad lectures of just reading off slides that attendance is mandatory for. tests are IMPOSSIBLE with the student average being 50 % everytime. she makes test days so miserable, the air is so evil in the test room. quizzes every tuesday and thursday in discussion classes. you can study crazy for the test and still be clueless
Nightmare.
by far the worst professor I have ever have taken. you can barely hear her, but when you do you dont understand her, and on top of the bad lectures the material is extremely difficult. most of your learning will come from your TAs, not her.
