He is best described as an extreme narcissist; he spends as much time berating students for misunderstanding his poorly worded lectures as he does teaching. He is notorious for being unavailable, unwilling to answer questions, and generally uncaring about his student's learning. Avoid at all costs

Ajaz's lectures are mediocre at best because he attempts to make concepts harder than they really are. You can do well without attending his lectures, which are graph heavy, and self study for tests, which are number heavy. By the end of the course, you will be happy to never hear his repetitive jokes.

Man, this guy sucks. I've taken a ton of math in undergrad and this guy can't explain a mathematical concept for his life. Sure, he's funny and keep things light, but is just an awful instructor who can't explain simple concepts at all. If you ask a question, he'll likely cut you off and try to answer before you even get your question across.

If you listen closely and pay attention in class (writing notes) and supplimenting that with a read of his textbook (+ doing the homework), you should be alright. Oh, and don't expect something not to be on the test. If he mentioned it, chances it will be there. Beware of subtle hints.

Not enough practice questions in each chapter (7-20 if any) and his chapters are identical to lecture slideshows which are huge. Prof stormed out in the middle of a lecture (scheduled a make up lecture on a Sunday) He gives hints to the tests in class (some test questions he answers verbally in class and doesn't include the info on slides or book)

Take ECO204 with him if you have a finance job interview. He assumes everyone will go into Finance and is taking certain courses (i.e. RSM332, ECO220). The contents are not difficult but the tests are unreasonably long .

HARDEST CLASS AND PROFESSOR EVER! He makes concepts very challenging compared to other professors. His Ryerson jokes were funny the first week but not anymore. Making us do presentations infront of 400 students... whereas other sections do not have to do this. It is really unfair.

If I could rate him 0, I would. The content in this course is very difficult itself, and this man has the audacity to make it even harder! Pretty sure all the good reviews about him are written by him or his offspring. The man insults Rotman MBA students, students goes to the Canadian Harvard... when he went to Brown.

RUDEST PROFESSOR EVER! HE INTERRUPTS STUDENTS MID PRESENTATION TO MAKE STUDENT LOOK STUPID, WHEN REALLY HE'S THE ONE LOOKING LIKE A FOOL. Everyone knows that judges ask questions at the end of a presentation, and they are certainly not asked by interrupting and with annoyed looks.

Hilarious doesn't help, his lecture is hard to follow. Have no interest in this course, and he makes it a lot harder. He is away for an awful lot of time, and TA would teach during tutorials. Fingers crossed for me to pass this course.

This prof thinks he is the best ever and thinks he is so cool since his tests are super hard when really he is the worst ever. I wish this prof can see that if the test averages are 50-60s that implies that no one knows what is going on and his teaching style is ineffective. Really wish I did not take this class with him. I learned nothing.

This is by far the most painful class as a RC student. The tests are designed to see if you can memorize a few arbitrary concepts rather than your understanding. I learnt nothing besides pain When students try to ask questions in class he's a straight up savage and will insult them. He gets impatient when people ask questions he deems irrelevant.

He's a knowledgeable guy, and I respect him for that. However, he's very bad at teaching concepts. Knowledgeable ! Good at teaching. Appreciate the fact that he wrote his own textbook for his students so that we don't have to spend money, but he tends to overcomplicate a lot of the concepts even simple ones (eg. simplifying and jumping steps).

Some of the concepts he taught couldve been taught in simpler terms. But he just has to insert unnecessary stories and make it MORE COMPLEX. Youtube did better. His wording on the quizzes & test are just SO odd. It's like ECO204's structured to be hard to maintain aCaD RiGoR. He'll curve marks but you wont learn much after a whole year.

His Quercus Quizzes are an exact description of his teaching method - confusing, non-sense, and overly complicated. His lectures do not help (well, the concepts are explained, but they are mixed with redundant jokes and absolute weirdness) at all. It's understandable that ECO204 is a must-take course in Rotman, but avoid at all costs.

For whoever is planning on attending his online courses, listen to me, RUN. He is still learning how to use all these course-related websites and having trouble with giving out the CORRECT QUESTIONS (yes, not answer, but the questions). His TAs are not doing their job properly as well, no communication on Piazza at all.

- No matter how hard you try, you will get below 50 on his quiz/test. (And this is from someone who scores perfect 90% of the times on ECO220 quizzes.) Because he just wants to make your life hard. He kills you while he says he loves you. - He procrastinates every day of his life. Delaying lectures, delay posting problem sets, delay everything.

Professor like Ajaz ruins the U of T reputation, an embarrassment to all the hard-working professors out there who are passionate and willing to teach. The reason why ECO204 is so "hard" is because this guy does the bare minimum of teaching. The course concepts are not that hard, but since this guy doesn't know how to teach, everyone will fail.

Been crying for the past week because of how frustrating this prof is. Quizzes are absolutely brutal and irrelevant to the course material, he barely communicates, and his explanation for half of the content he teaches is to "use your intuition". I don't understand how people pass this class. But he seems quite knowledgeable, I'll give him that.

Don't make a mistake even if the solution is wrong. If he makes a mistake on a question, he'll correct it after a couple of weeks, except instead of fixing the problem, he'll just delete the whole question. Don't learn from his lectures. Go through the lecture to figure out which concepts you need to know and then learn them somewhere else.

He's honestly such a bad professor. He uploads lectures late, doesn't respond in a timely manner, and makes you feel dumb as a student. He doesn't explain the material well either. His lecture slides and practice problems are nothing like the tests. Even if you spent a week studying, you still wouldn't know how to answer majority of the questions.

Sometimes I wonder why he wanted to become a teacher if he doesn't even care about giving his students a proper education. Honestly I have been so disappointed with him and his teaching. Surprised to find out that he has been teaching for 10+ years. His teaching style is confusing. He also said that he is not good with Quercus. He never answers any questions on Piazza besides roasting his students. He makes excuses for his mistakes in Quercus Quizzes and tries to turn it into a joke. Honestly, it is not even funny.

Instructions and the entire course structure super unclear and confusing. Personally think this professor is making an effort to increase the level of difficulty of this course even though it is NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A MATH COURSE it's an econ course for Rotman students who DONT NEED ALL THIS MATH.

He wrote the first two quizzes and term test one then later found out that he ducked up, so WE have to retake all these due to HIS MISTAKES, which is adding additional stress to us during the final season when we have everything else due. He just blames the students for everything and never really takes responsibility for himself.

This is the worst class I've ever taken in my life. This class is horrible. Between the awful tests and the confusing work that makes no sense, do not take this course. It will only leave you miserable and depressed. And LOL at anybody that says otherwise because this class is garbage.

The most disorganized Prof I've ever had. Due to mistakes made by him, he reset the entire course, shifting 85% of course deliverables to term 2. Made promises to provide study plans and review material for midterms but never followed up. When TAs were asked about this on Piazza, they deflected and never followed up. Terrible Prof.

This course is definitely the hardest I've taken and I knew going into it that it would require a lot of effort to do well. However, when you have a professor who is so remarkably disorganized that you end up having to complete literally 85% of the year's deliverables in the second semester of the course, it makes it near impossible.

For someone who uses the word "intuitively" every 5 secs, he gives, ironically, the least intuitive explanations. He's actually impressively skilled at making explanations so long-winded and confusing that I even get confused about things I had already learned in courses that overlap- not only can he not teach, he actually made me "unlearn" things.

Yes its difficult not because the materials are hard. But he makes simple things like how to calculate inflation VERY VERY complicated. And I'm sick and tired of him saying "quote on quote", idk why he says that. He might think he's really cool by always saying "quote on quote".

Ajaz somehow makes simple concepts and calculations difficult and hard to understand through his confusing explanations. Reset the course halfway through, cramming 3 midterms into 1 semester. TAs on Piazza are useless. A terrible experience, avoid Ajaz for 204. This course shouldn't have been as hard as he made it.

Ajaz is a very respectable man, but as a professor, he was quite disorganized this year. 85% of marks were pushed to the winter, and with constant delays. Also, for a micro-econ course, there should be more variety in topics other than finance , as many students have other interests (marketing consulting. etc.) not in capital markets.

Good person, but not a good professor. Spent a lot of time on finance, but I don't think its of value to students who don't want to do finance. The materials covered in lectures and quizzes are not always found in the textbook. Class was incredibly disorganized, lectures were delayed and grades took a long time to get back to us. The material on lectures and homework had very little to do with the tests. He's very arrogant as well, constantly wasting time in lectures making condescending jokes.

Lecture videos are on average 2-3 hours long that gets dragged on for no reason. IMO you're better off taking ECO206 than dealing with this course. Incredibly hard to understand lecture material as well, it almost feels like he intentionally makes it harder by leaving things out of lectures. (beware: many lecture typos that will confuse you)

The most dysfunctional professor I have ever had. Never seen a professor be so unorganized they had to restart the course, while also still having poor communication throughout a whole year. I have never met such a lousy teacher. He did not upload teaching videos and had no corresponding quizzes for his own reasons. Because of his negligence of the syllabus, he went beyond the scope of the exam in the first exam and set a re-examination, which added an extra burden to the students due to the professor's own reasons.

Avoid him and take whichever alternative for a requirement! The worst course I've ever taken. Tests are marked without reasonable rubric and so are his group projects. The reports and presentations were "open-ended" but he and his TAs deduct marks based on rubric not even given. Final course avg likely below 60 but got no curve whatsoever.

The meanest and most unreasonable professor and person you'll ever meet. Pretty sure the very few good reviews were written by him. Under all circumstances, avoid him. Literally take any other class. I took ECO204 in the Fall2020-Winter2021 school year. Hands down the HARDEST econ course. Ajaz was often late to post lectures and was often disorganized. When I took the course, we had to 'restart' the course in Nov because of how unorganized up the course was. Course was somewhat interesting, but tests were always very hard.

The reviews are unfortunately true. Very disorganized and instructions are often unclear. The TAs are often late to respond to student questions. I can't think of anything good...

Ajaz is really funny, and I genuinely have fun sometimes in his class, but that is where the positives stop. He hardly gets through a third of these massive (and super testable) slideshows and expects us to learn the rest through hour-long videos from 2020 which are often pretty different than the slides we are tested on.

I will never understand why the economics department at this school is run so horribly. Where do we start with this course? The professor constantly cancels lectures and make up lectures, gives unreasonably difficult quizzes that are marked incorrectly, puts supposedly "untestable" material on the midterm, &run by TAs who know less than students.

Future ECO204 takers. Do yourself a favor and pick a different professor. Unless of course, you value laughable levels of disorganization, unfair testing, projects on untaught materials, teaching yourself through outdated resources, and overall decimation. He curves tests a lot, and you get a cheat sheet, but at what cost? The tests are impossible!

This has got to be the worst course I've ever took in my entire life. Makes both 101 and 102 look like a cakewalk. Professor Ajaz is unbelievably disorganized and rude and because of this you will likely struggle in this course. Please pick the other professor if you have the choice.

Bro, what is on this next test? He claims that people who don't do well are too lazy to go to class and tutorials, but I haven't missed a single class or tutorial and I have no clue what we're learning, or what I'm being tested on.

Honestly, I'm just disappointed; I used to be very passionate about economics, but this guy has just sucked the life out of the subject. So far, my grades have been pretty good, but I don't feel that I have learnt anything because all lectures are him blasting through the most disorganized slides ever and then making up stuff for exams.

5% project is an entire excel portfolio + 5/6 page paper with vague directions + technical appendix. I have never worked so much for 5% and he will probably still grade me 0%. Very unclear rubric and marking scheme, slow and useless responses on EdDiscussion.

Very disorganized lectures/tutorials leave students not knowing what to take away. Tests are consistently way too long (no time) and often cover material that can't be found in notes. Difficult class. Professor is not very helpful and expects you to learn stuff before class. Lectures are disorganised and difficult to understand if you don't study beforehand.

He is extremely unorganized. His Quercus page is messy, he posts slides in the announcements, and doesn't post his annotated slides either. He has already skipped two lectures so far six weeks into the year. No surprise he has over a hundred awful reviews on this site. His bad teaching is a reoccurring issue, its not gonna change. His humour is entertaining, however, he lacks professionalism. He cannot manage a large class and is quite disorganized. He explains course concepts in a very difficult way. His assessments are truly unfair and not relevant to what he covers in class. Overall, it was an unpleasant experience and the class that I learned the least from.

The instructor was extremely disorganized and unpleasant. It is a shame that he is permitted to teach at an institution like the University of Toronto. Although he is intelligent, teaching is a gift. He is NOT a teacher. He can't communicate the material to the students effectively.

Skips over material, has already missed multiple classes, writing ineligible at times, slides are extremely messy with no clear direction, expects you to know certain stuff that is 100% unreasonable. Posts PDF chapter links which don't work. Website is not useful as it's not updated. Ajaz if you are reading this, please don't mess us in the test.

He told us not to believe the rate my prof reviews on him. Little did I know I should have listened. He constantly skips classes, posts things much later than he said he would. Stared at someone for 20 seconds+ and claim he commited academic offense, just because the student took a picture of what's on the board. He was previous accused of a leave since unusual amount of reports to him, so he was required to have a students' consent of him, he used 5% of mark to trade, whoever gives positive feedback get that 5% of course

He regularly expressed frustration with students for not meeting his expectations, leading to a negative classroom environment. Instead of offering constructive feedback, he often became angry and blamed students, which hindered learning and created tension. Worst prof (not even a human being) I've ever seen.

He frequently disparaged other universities, such as TMU and the Rotman School of Management's MBA program, which was irrelevant to the course and unprofessional. The only reason I gave him one was because there was no zero.

You'll sit through hours of content that has nothing to do with the exam, then get hit with the most random, confusing test questions imaginable. People have been complaining for years, and somehow, he's still here. U of T, are you good??

This mans really gave us an entire bible to complete for the final. learnt more about economics from the minecraft movie. on gng please retire bro your hair is already in paradise

Took in 22-23. Talked about his ex and alcoholism in lectures. Posted rants at 4AM calling students unmotivated. But that was all funny and not the reason for the poor rating. Awful course organization. TA's lost as much as students. Project worth only 5% truly required 30+ hours to complete. He blames everyone except himself for the dysfunction.

This class is so cooked. Bro comes 45 mins late to class, his lecture summaries are upwards of 100 pages EACH. Exams often cover one or two concepts from the previous few lectures, meaning you are done for if you did not focus on those concepts. He makes simple concepts ridiculously hard to understand. Final exam was over 50 pages...

Worst professor ever & I wonder how hes not fired. Prepare for him to "get sick" conveniently before lectures. Most unprofessional behaviour (loudly cusses out his TAs during exams). Horrible at teaching, makes even simple concepts hard. Exams are unfair & unpredictable, course is structured terribly, summaries are long & complicated for no reason.

Got closer to god during this course cause genuinely all you can do is pray. I think this course shaved at least 4 years off my lifespan.

This guy's class was simply brutal. Unorganized and difficult for no reason. The course concepts aren't that hard but he forces you to learn it "his way" which complicates things unnecessarily. No amount of studying could prep you for his tests. You probably need a whole separate degree to understand the questions he asks. Avoid at all costs.

if you want to take a 4 hr no curve make up test....by the way the test has 565 points, you should choose ajaz. Worst professor ever.

The worst prof I met in UofT ever; class and course material not organized; self-created textbook not understandable; self-considered humour during class; super strict; and he always promises to do something, but nothing happens or in a very late response mode.

Worst course I've taken by far at UofT. It doesnt even come close. Content would not have been too hard, but Ajaz's disorganised delivery makes the course absolutely horrendous.

He should spend less time arguing and embarrassing students and more time showing us example problems.

TL;DR - you will probably pass his course but it will be painful do not take the makeup midterm, curves are nonlinear, tests made last minute. difficulty lies entirely in comprehending his 50+ page "summaries" and lectures akin to watching paint dry. really unfunny. didn't learn anything about microeconomics as he's a wannabe finance prof.
