AWESOME!
i agree. awesome
An absolutely amazing teacher!
Al is a great teacher, and I will miss being in his class after the semester ends. He knows his stuff and he really relates to his students. He made the semester fun for me b/c he made us laugh. It's nice to laugh first thing in the morning.
he is so great, prefect !!!
He is one of the BEST professors that I have EVER had! He's a great teacher and a wonderful person. Thanks Al for making the class fun.
al is so awesome! he is brilliant, and hey, he taught me how to do great on speeches so hes the man! haha he truly is an awesome prof! im glad i took this class over the summer and lucked out with him as a prof!! :)
Awesome teacher. Very helpful and cares a lot about every student. Made class very fun. I was deathly afraid of public speaking, but with his help I ended up being the best speaker in the class. His tests are very easy. Wish there were more teachers like him!!!
Awesome person and awesome teacher. He made class fun and interesting and I learned a lot. A very cool person.
One of the all time best teachers you could ever have teach a class. Great teacher, very funny. Puts the class at ease, very relaxed setting. Don't get between him and his coffee!

BEST SPCH TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!!! I do not like spch's yet I loved the class and absolutely loved giving spchs! I recommend him to everybody!
Took the class over the summer, wasn't too enthused about having to take it either, but ended up topping as one of the best college courses I've ever taken! he made class fun, made the 2.5 hoursfly! HIGHLY reccomended!
amazing teacher and im so glad i listened to friends recommendations!!! :) wish i could take his class again!

I was dreading this class before I took it, but Al Golden really made it easy and fun. The hardest part was writing the speeches, but 4 speeches over 16 weeks amounts to only about one every month. Highly recommended--very nice guy who makes you feel comfortable about public speaking.
Very nice guy. You would want to be his friend.
GREAT teacher. He's personal, he'll work with you, and he'll make you feel comfortable. If you're wary about taking speech, you will not want to leave his class when it's over. Very highly recommended!
al golden is the best teacher there is. he is always helpful and nice and makes class fun. i hate public speaking but he helps calm those fears and is always excited to be in class. he doesn't expect a whole lot from his students and is just a generally nice person to be around.
Al is an awesome teacher. He is not like those other teachers who show fake personalities, try to be very nice but in reality they are so mean. Al is very helpful. i love being in his class. I wish he could teach all the subjects so I can get him again n again.
I absolutely HATE Speech class--but not because of Al. He is a great teacher. I am just terrified of public speaking. He does give calming tips and he is very understanding of people like me. He is not too hard on us regarding grading our delivery, but he does expect us to just try our best. Very good with feedback and so willing to help.
Al Golden is the best professor I've had at this school. He's got a great sense of humor, and he makes you want to be in his class. There are 4 speeches that are required, but he gives you feedback before you stand up in front of everyone, so you're sure to get a decent grade. You will wish that he was your friend after you get out of his class.
I took Al for Summer Speech & although the class was accelerated, I felt at ease. The book is rarely used. Simple hmrk. He is a great speaker and keeps the notes interesting with power points. Relates everything to real life and is eager to help and get students involved. Highly recommend him and I wish I could take him again.
Awesome teacher. Makes me want to go to class. Super funny, will explain things more if you need it. Always willing to help. HIGHLY reccommended
HE IS A NICE INSTRUCTOR BUT NOT GOOD ON RESPONDING TO EMAILS
Very talkative, went off on tangents, but entertaining. Never let us off early, but informative. Hard doing 16 weeks of work in just 6 weeks.
For those that fear public speaking, take him!! He 'gets' it. He really wants you to do well in class and learn how to become a better public speaker. Plus, he's got a killer sense of humor. Take good notes, and come prepared and you will do really well.
Al went the extra mile to help, as he would review my speech via email ahead of time, and make suggestions on how to improve it. He has his own way of outlining the speech and requires research and extra projects, which was difficult at times since it was a 6 week class. The mid/final were easy. He made the class fun and interesting.
AL'S GREAT! HE IS AN EXCELLENT SPEECH PROFESSOR. I DREADED TAKING THIS CLASS BUT HE REALLY MADE IT INTERESTING AND OFTEN TIMES HE WAS VERY ENTERTAINING. HE LIKES TO LECTURE! EVEN RATTLES ON ABOUT HIS OWN LIFE. SPEECH DELIVERY IS HARD BUT HE REALLY MADE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE AND HE'S EXTREMELY HELPFUL.
I definitely recommend Al for speech. He's very accessible, and you can tell just by the way he talks that he understands. He can be both funny and serious, and his teaching approach is very guided, rather than a "Just do it!" approach. Be sure to read everything carefully and you'll do fine.
Awesome teacher! Willing to help and really good teacher. Always fun.
He's not bad, but don't expect an easy grade. He grades the speeches very strict and he grades outlines & workscited very detailed. He makes classes fun and has a goofy personality. My advice, I would look for an easier teacher if you can find one..and if you choose him, make sure you structure your speech by all the guidelines!
He is amazing! Lets you know what is expected and will help you along the way. He really cares about teaching his students. Class goes by fast.
I came into this course dreading having to stand up in front of the class, but that totally changed after my first speech. I loved coming to this class, he makes everyone comfortable. He makes it clear whathe expects and is always willing to help. He is a great guy to meet even beyondhis amazing teaching abilities. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
he is the God of public speaking
I wish he could teach all of my classes. He is a great teacher. The class went by fast. We had a lot of fun. I highly recommend taking his class.
Al is high energy, relatable, and ready to help you get an A. Great acceptance of "excuseable" absences by the student. Lays out the course at the beginning of term... which for a summer course is absolutely indespensable! Take this teacher!!!
Mr. G rocks, I attempted speech class a couple of times b4 & dropped w/in the 1st hr of class. It took me 10 yrs 2 finally get through it. Mr. G is just what I needed 2 get through speech. I won't say he is easy but is fair. His storys R awesome & he always found a way 2 relate them 2 that days lesson on communication.
Al is very helpful and professional. If you have problem to make through speech class, he is the one!
LOVE this class. I highly recommend it. Al is a great professor and you can tell he really loves teaching.
Tells alot of funny stories, and is very knowledgeable of his subjects. Very funand bubbily! :)
Just awesome. Most helpful professor every. Totally worth the money.
You couldn't ask for a better SPCH professor. No lie. He makes things easy as possible, give 2 exams(midterm& final), is helpful, gives great lectures, tells great stories AND MAKES SPEAKING AS COMFORTABLE AS POSSIBLE. One of the best professors I've ever had.
Al is an awesome teacher. At first didnt care for him but he showed he is trying to make you a better speaker. As long as you take his notes you'll do well in the class. Would really recommend not taking a summer speech course though. Would highly recommend him.
Al was so fun and entertaining!always had a good story to go with the lesson. He cares about his students and wants everyone to do well.I hate doing speeches and ended up getting a B. Attendance is a must but understands things happen(sickness car trouble)i never read & did good. takes directly what he says in class & puts it on test so listen!
Al cannot return and email to save his life. His communication to the students is "spotty" at best. He changes dates assignments are due, which is not fair for those of us that busted our butts to get it done on time. Please, Al...get it together and hold everyone accountable and RETURN EMAILS!
Awesome teacher!!!! I was terrified to take this class. He is so clear on what he expects goes over things more than once and is very through. Not an easy class but enjoyable!!! I will use what I learn in Al's class forever!!!
Greatest teacher I've ever had. I bombed a few speeches and I never felt bad about it. If the way he set his class up wasn't enough, he was a true friend and helped me with anything I needed. 103 isn't even required but because I loved Al so much I took it. If you are so lucky as to get him, you will understand.
FABOULOUS N FIERCE... HE is so nice and really cheesy funny but i works. i was so worried about this class but he puts things at ease and sets u up for sucess. his outlines are easy so u can copy them when doing ur speech so you can make sure you get full credit. just a very nice guy and really liked him had funny stories 2
Al is a great professor. He knows the subject well and cares about his students and what he is doing. His is probably not the easiest speech professor here, but if you are looking for a professor who puts a lot of effort into teaching the subject, he is a great choice. One of my favorites.
Notice that there is only one frowny face comment in 11 pages... i guess it speaks for itself. I actually miss speech class :( ... who wouldve thought.
I loved AL!!! I attended every class (he even allowed me to bring a friend/"visitor" to class!) because his teaching abilities are amazing...I learned a TON, but it didn't feel like the typical learning experience (it's like a LEARNING PARTY! with AL). Only complaint:tough on grading your speeches :( I worked my butt off and managed to get a B.
It was a GREAT class. I kinda had a problem getting to class on time. But he was always understanding. He is a sort of tuff grader, but he gave a lot of feedback to help shape your next presentation.
overall very bad! went to him for help on a speech and he said it was perfect and he wouldn't change anything then gave me a C. Hope you like long days cause he starts on time gives a 10 min break to the sec and always goes over. Add your points and watch your grade cause he shorted me a couple also.
Had speech over the summer with him it wasnt that hard it just you have alot work to do in a small amount of time
very good teach, he make me love speech.
great teacher.
Great teacher!!!
Mr G. Is a great guy. He is funny & really entertaining, but I feel that he is a little unclear of his expectations in his class. He does not use Angel & does not have a set schedule of when assignments are due so he gets mixed up on dates a lot. Students are constantly asking what the hw is & when it is due but his answers are always changing.
Al is amazing, I honestly never had a class which I actually like going to just to see what he says next.
Al Golden is an awsome teacher who made the class fun and interesting. I learned quite a bit and enjoyed this class so much! Its been a couple semesters since I took his class and still recall it, so that says a lot!
HE WAS THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I HATED AND FEARED SPEECH CLASS PRIOR TO HIM, NOW I AM MORE CONFIDENT AT MY WORKPLACE AND I FEEL LIKE HE TAUGHT ME A LOT.
He was a good teacher, don't kid yourself, you have to know your stuff and pay attention! However, if you try in his class he makes it possible for you to get an A.
Good, funny teacher. Don't buy the book before the first day of class, he used an open source textbook with us. Your grade in this class is almost directly tied with the amount of time you spend on it: on the speeches, and on the readings that he "requires" you to do. A lot of work, but completely possible to get an A.
Al was my adviser and speech teacher, and absolutely excelled at both. He is fair, and helpful, and an extremely interesting/funny lecturer. Definitely one of the highlights of my JJC experience.
Horrible teacher. Dont take him if you are going full time because he is not very clear when he lectures so your going to have to teach yourself a lot of the material. He often grades depending upon his mood, and he expects you to keep track of your grades because he loses papers/never writes them down. Overall for a 101 it's just not worth it.
There is no book so attendance is key! Other than that, you will put in hours of work to prepare for speeches! Excellent professor with integrity! He is my teacher, advisor, and club advisor! He tends to get overworked being those three things. Gets really unorganized w papers and is slow at putting grades in, but knows what he's doing! Take him!
Al made class fun and interesting. Explained everything in detail and made sure you knew what was expected. Used note card for testexam which there weren't that many of. Took him for the Summer which was my first semester of college and he was wonderful. No reason not to get an "A" unless you don't attend. Never used the text book.
Al is amazing. He's hysterical and keeps class interesting. He tries to connect with everyone, and makes speech class enjoyable, which is very hard to do. I took him as a summer course, and even though it's ten times harder, he makes it better. He's open and 100% himself. If you're terrified of public speaking, take him.
Awesome teacher!!! He keeps class interesting. If your like me and don't like speaking in front of the class, he is the teacher to have. He makes the atmosphere comfortable. He's the best teacher I've ever had!!!
I took this class in the summer. He is an all around good teacher. The grading criteria is crystal clear and he gives helpful feedback. Every speech I delivered he had someone time it and hold up cue cards to show the speaker how far along they are in the speech. If you do all the homework you can do an extra credit assignment. Highly recommend!
He gives stupid busy work that is not helpful for you future. Waste of a class. Would have dropped if I didn't need it. Judgemental.
Al is very funny. He keeps everyone involved as much as possible. It is extremely clear what he expects out of his students. He responds to e-mails promptly which is helpful when you have last minute questions. He is a great teacher, I really enjoy his class.
Al is amazing, he makes going to class so much easier. I would recommend anyone that has to take Speech to take it with Al.
Al is my favorite person at JJC. Took him for honors speech and he made it fun. He gives great feedback.
He was so funny and I always enjoyed class. He is really tough on speeches but he is not cruel in his comments. I would take him again.
Words cannot describe how absolutely amazing Professor Golden is. He is such a genuine person and brings it into the classroom and makes lectures interesting and funny. He is always willing to help and gives amazing feedback. I would love to take him again and highly, HIGHLY recommend him.
Professor Golden was awesome! Such an amazing person to be around and made the lectures fun and interesting. He is well respected:) There are only 4 speeches all semester so make sure you do everything correctly.
Probably the best teacher I've had in college so far. I'm really scared of speaking in public, and he was very sympathetic of that. Lots of interesting stories, explained everything really well, gave really useful specific feedback. Only used the book for midterm/final, so you can get away with borrowing one.
Al is so funny and offers a lot of help with the speeches. We had 4 speeches, the first one is 1 min long and the rest are 5-7. He clarifies the topics. Has midterm and final but just read the material he gives. Some extra work besides speech but nothing big. Just keep in mind the worst part of speech is delivery, and that is just in your head.
Best teacher I have ever had at JJC, he's a super cool guy and makes giving speeches less scarier and is all around a great teacher.
Al is one of the best teachers I have had at JJC. He's super helpful when it comes to giving speeches and makes the classroom a really great learning environment. His lectures are great and he was always able to make everyone laugh and have a good time.
Al is very helpful and he makes speeches less nerve-wracking with his humorous attitude.
Al was hands down one of the best instructors I've had. I dreaded Speech, as do many. I found his techniques useful not only in his class, but in many other classes and in real-life work presentation situations, and I am not outgoing! He made my presentations clean and much more interesting. Al is the best! If you have to take Speech, take Al!
Hes really funny and gives good feedback. The speeches arent that hard to do but will take a little work. His lectures are not boring, he relates them to life to understand them and he adds humor which is great. Its not a hard class.
Al is great! He makes class enjoyable. Really gives constructive feedback. Lecture slides don't have much info, so make sure to take note of what he says in class. Definitely do the pre-speech work! It helps a lot. Overall, Al really cares about students. Really great prof.
Al is funny and everyday his lectures were like having a conversation with him where you just casually learned something. He relates what he is teaching in the class back to real life so you never question why this class is even relevant. There are 4 speeches and the outlines are clear. Classroom is easy going so speech jitters aren't as bad.
The best teacher Ive had so far in JJC. Too bad I only have him for 6weeks (I took his summer school speech class) Speeches (4 total) are easy but require some practice and effort (of course!) His lectures are A1! He is sooooo funny! And really good at giving real life examples that relates back to the topic. Some reading is required for tests.
I can not stress this enough: PLEASE take a class from this professor. He's head of the honors program but don't let that scare you, it just means that he's especially caring when it comes to fair feedback and treating each student as an individual worth of his time and attention. Challenging, engaging, loves Tiger Balm (he has arthritis)
What can I say about Al. Well for starters, Al helped my attain my goals. I started at JJC with little money and lots of ambition. Al, through the Honors Program helped me win scholarships. Today, as a non-traditional student I am in Grad school at Lewis U. Without his guidance this would have been hard to achieve. Al helped me through the hurdles
Al Golden called a kid out for "Scowling" in his class one time. He said that is "BS" to the kid for no reason? Still to this day one of the worst professors I've had. Every person who rates Al good on here are the kids that participate in the band in high school. Al is very judgemental and if you get on his bad side, forget about it.
Al is a hilarious and serious professor at the same time. He sets high expectations for all of his students and will push you to your limits as if you are in the honors class. I recommend going to the tutoring and learning center to receive help with organizing speeches and practicing in the speech room, it helped me immensely.
Al's incredible. Stop questioning yourself and take his class! Another tip - the book is solely used outside of class for reading and slowly preparing for the midterm/ final (Al provides study outlines for both early in the semester, start working on it ASAP) I wish I hadn't bought the book and just used the library copy to study and read.
HILARIOUS TEACHER. So many funny stories from him & such a sweet guy. I did enjoy his class very much but he was a very hard grader. Still hasnt put in grades from the overall sem. He will tell u got an A on everything but ends up giving you lower than a B. Hes very nice & is helpful but when u see what u end up getting Its a whole diff story.
al was a great teacher he made the class fun there are a total of 4 speeches make sure you do all of them or it will bring your grade down drastically. most definitely would take him again!
Professor Golden is a great teacher, one of the best I have ever had. He really cares about his students ,and wants you to do well. The class was very educational but also very enjoyable. Take his class ,you won't regret it.
Al is a nice guy, but you won't learn much from his class. He spends a lot of class time talking about his personal life and not a lot of time going over the textbook. You'll have a midterm and final that you won't be prepared for unless you read the book on your own. Also, he doesn't post grades online all semester.
The class itself is not fun unless you enjoy lectures and giving speeches. Al is engaging and is pretty understanding when grading speeches. Grades wont be posted til far into the semester but you can ask him how you're doing. Solid teacher.
one of the BEST professors Ive ever had. The class felt personal and engaged and like he enjoyed us and teaching us. If I get a chance to have him again, Im jumping on it. First time Ive ever looked forward to going to class
Golden is a pretty decent professor when he does his job. I took him online and it was very hard to get a hold of him. He also didnt grade a single thing until 2/3s through the semester. He takes off points for what seems like no reason and the only comment he leaves is along the lines of Good job or Nice work. You can easily teach yourself.
Really enjoyed his class. Although JJC did not accept my transferred speech requirement I enjoyed taking it with Mr. Golden.
Overall, Professor Golden was a pretty good professor, however his grading style often left me feeling confused due to the lack of actual feedback on my speeches. You only have two actual exams though, so that was nice, but beware of having to write 2 outlines back to back to receive full credit for the final speech.
al is a pretty cool guy
He is so kind and his feedback is well written and respectful. His lectures are intriguing and informational. there is one test the midterm but it was online. the speeches are not bad and he is willing to help you at any time!
This was a easy class but the teacher takes forever to grade. Yet he was an easy grader. You rely a lot on classmates for feedback in this class on your speeches. But the instructions are clear and he was somewhat good about quick responses to messages.
Goes off topic a lot which can make class confusing and difficult to understand
would not take.
Professor Golden is very kind and good with lectures but not always super specific about assignments and speech outlines. I missed a few days due to surgery and he did not give me any structure on my assignments. Overall he is very sweet and funny.
Al is a great guy, and he cares about his students. If you are anxious during your speech, DO NOT stand behind the podium unless you want to get points taken off
Mr G is there to hear his student. Participate in class and make your work your own.
Professor Golden is a pretty good lecturer. The class isn't too difficult, but you'll need to put in the work on speeches and outlines. Unstuck AI is a great tool for prepping alongside the textbook.
Professor Golden is amazing. He is very clear on expectations for the class and makes sure you have all the resources to succeed. He encourages students when they are nervous about giving their speech and is not too harsh on grading. Golden is very knowledgeable in his field, and it is clear that he loves what he does.
Al Golden is goated!! Do everything in your power to take a class with him!!!
