The man is psychology personified. His classes are so informative and satisfying that you'll have an urge to drop out of school at mid semester and spend the rest of your life contemplating your navel.

Doctor Al's ability to teach students is nearly unsurpassed. He is also exceptionally skilled at making his students think outside the box. I have reason to believe that one of my fellows accessed this site and cruelly criticized him in revenge.

The easiest class, i got an A. He doesn't give homework, he gives study sessions, but if you come to class and pay attention it is a breeze. Definitely take Maisto. Easy A, and he is a great guy, helps u out if u need it.

He is pretty much a genius. One of the smartest people I ever met. He can make you feel kind of stupid. Also, his voice cracks and gets really high when he gets excited. Other than that, he is an excellent teacher and you will learn alot if you want to.

I took this class as a Bio major and came out a Psych major! He's one of the only professors I know that makes getting to class fun. I don't recall studying TOO much (Didn't take the second test, which he drops your lowest test score), and I pulled a high B. Oh, and he ALWAYS replies to students. He really wants to help. i loved al maisto!!! the class is very challenging, but he really is a great professor. He doesn't make you attend class, but it would be helpful if you did, because a lot of the stuff on the test, comes from your notes. It is also helpful to sometimes read the CH. summaries before the tests also. A lot of work, but he is a great professor.

I absolutly hated this class. It was really boring. His voice will put you to sleep. He tells alot of stories that can sometimes be interesting. He wrote the book you use, and he will remind you of it every day! He is way to cocky!!!

Amazing professor. He has the best stories every and class is really enjoyable. His test are kinda of hard but he has a curve system he uses. He wrote the book for his class though and asks questions that he only covered in the book on the exam so you will not get an A without reading. But he is an awesome proffessor and I wish he taugh more.

I love Maisto. He is the head of the Honors College so I see him every once in awhile at the events. I will see him later on and so forth with that. Great teacher. I'd recommend him! (if he reads this...MONKEYS!!!!!!)

I'd recommend this class to everyone. I made a B without buying the book and attending 1/3 of classes. I'd imagine that it would not be difficult to make an A if you tried. There are only 4 exams, including a cum. final, and the lowest of the first 3 exams are dropped. With Wikipedia and the study guides, anyone can make a good grade.

He is a very good teacher, keeps things interesting and on track. Didn't use the textbook much, but some people might like to have it. Pay attention and you'll do fine, tests are very straight forward

Attendance is not mandatory but the way he explains things is easier than reading the book (even though he wrote the book!) Tests are only 50 questions and they literally take about 20 minutes. He says that you can get 80% of what you need from lecture or 80% from the book so either buy the book or go to class and you'll be fine

Maisto is a great guy, He is down to earth & the things he talks about in class are pretty interesting. However his test are kind of tricky, I would recommend going to class for his notes & read/skim the book. The exams cover ALOT of information on them, so just be prepared!

Maisto is great. Go to class even though it's not madatory - a lot of what he says will be covered in the tests. He expects a lot of you - know definitions and concepts throughly. He's fair - but for me he was harder than other teachers - be prepared. :)

Professor Maisto was a good teacher. He obviously knew what he was talking about( he wrote the book). Tests were kind of challenging, even with studying, it was still kind of hard, but he curves all the test and drops the lowest of 3. So i'm not complaining. good guy though. Would recommend.

He is a charles darwin fan..classes are boring and I thought his lectures didn't help, just stay home and know EVERYTHING in the book, use the little online study thing that comes with the book that he wrote. He kinda thinks he is the stuff with his leather vest and big noggin. Doesn't beleive in students getting 100's on tests, tests are hard.

This has been one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. He has new stories and facts to share each day in class. One of the few classes I have ever actually looked forward to. Tests are difficult only if you don't study. Class not mandatory, but go if you want an A. An 88 is an A, 3 tests, drops lowest one, final mandatory.

I haven't had Al since Fall of '08 but all I can say is what a great man.

This was a very interesting class. Dr. Maisto had some very enlightening and comical stories to share. The tests are a bit hard, so study as much as you can. He does give you a 4-6 point curve, and one of your 3 exams will be dropped.

WARNING: HE WROTE THE BOOK!!!!! ALOT OF WORK.This class is one that doesn't require attendance but if you do not go.. you are STUPID. You cannot pass if you do not read the book, word for word, attend lectures, study your ass off.. i studied for his class more than my poli-sci classes=sad. He's so quirky and even wrote the book! He uses examples from everyday life and answers whatever questions you throw at him. If you study and read the book you will do just fine. Don't skip his class even though he doesn't take attendance...the notes you take from his lectures are GOLDEN if you want to pass the tests.

Dont bother buying the text. He wrote it, so he pretty much reiterates it in lecture. Just take good notes and come every to class. Easy A, i think.

Was not looking forward to this class, but it turns out it is not so bad. He is a wonderful professor and keeps me entertained. I don't have to attend his class but I choose to because I like him and the class and plus a lot of test questions come from the notes!

Excellent class! He always kept me interested and entertained with his stories. There are only 3 tests and the final, one of the tests will be dropped but not the final. I highly recommend this class. Either go to class and take notes or read the book (he wrote it) and you will do good on the tests.

If you are serious about psychology, take his general psych class. He's not an easy A, but an A is still obtainable if you try hard enough (I got one). There have been many times talking to peers in the upper psych classes that are lost on stuff that I did in Maisto's general psych class. And he is just a cool guy overall.

Reading the book is kind of unnecessary, minus a few questions. He wrote the book, so he covers most of it. He's an amazing professor though, really knows his stuff. Definitely taking more psych classes now because of him. It's really not that hard, just go to class and pay attention. He keeps it interesting. Overall, loved it.

He is an EXCELLENT professor! The class is extremely interesting and not very difficult. Should make a B if you try. You don't need to use the textbook that much. He really knows what he's talking about and you'll enjoy his class especially if you like psychology. Would definitely suggest him!

He is one knowledgeable man and he knows how to make the class interesting. Go to class a couple of times, skim over the chapters, and study for the final and you will do flawless. It's not much work, especially if you do all of the extra credit assignments. They help you go up a whole letter grade!!!

His classes are very interesting. During the chapter when we reviewed the brain and our senses, he provided fun and interesting illusionary tricks (how the brain deceives us). Hes a fun, easy going professor whose classes are really enjoyable.

He is an AWESOME professor! His class is literally one of the few lectures I can actually sit through and pay full attention. He knows how to make things interesting, funny, and informative.

Maisto is a very fun and interesting professor! Even in large classeshes very engaged and helpful. Even though he can get off topic, his stories and references are always interesting and he makes psych enjoyable.

If you want to make a good grade in this course, GO TO CLASS. There are one or two boring classes, but Maisto is a great guy. Tons of experience which makes the class interesting and funny. He WROTE the textbook, which is great. Online media assignments. Plenty of extra credit.

Maisto is a pretty smart guy and his class was pretty cool. You have to go to class to do well but his textbook helps to study for his tests. Exams are a little tougher than they need to be but its an easy B course if you try hard enough. Extra credit will screw you if you don't do it. Not hard, just takes a little bit of time. Good class though.

He was a very interesting professor, and his teaching style was absorbing. He gave extra credit and the study guides for exams and online software were very useful. Overall, you should enjoy his class even if you do not agree with everything his says. I would recommend him as a professor, but all classes do necessitate a certain amount of work.

I psychology interests you and you show up, this class will be easy and entertaining. Good news - He wrote the book, so he really knows what he's talking about. Bad news - You will probably never open the stupid thing, but you need to buy it to get the MyPsychLab code...

Professor Maisto is a pretty good professor. He's very chill, and his class is manageable, so long as you keep up with the online resources. He sticks to the textbook, so you don't really have to read it as long as you take amazing notes. If you are theistic, he can get a little condescending, but other than that, he's a great professor to have.

I love this class! He does go on a tangent sometimes but if you just listen,you will ace the test. I didnt really use the book. Attendance not required but you SHOULD GO. No clicker. Topics are interesting.

Dr. Maisto is one of the best professors I've had at UNCC so far! Explains the concepts of general psyc very well and keeps the class engaged. He'll tell you in lecture what to focus on in the book and what not to. The book is required to get your access code for online activities. Overall, highly recommended professor!

Great teacher! Take him! Super chill, you can either read the book or go to class, don't need to do both. Easy tests, but you need to study. He has review sessions, go to those. Very easy, great guy, commit to class or the book and you should be fine.

Very good professor and a nice man. Grade is almost entirely tests which can be easily prepared for by going to class or reading the book in accordance to the study guides he posts at the beginning of the year. Avoid buying physical textbook as mypsychlab subscription contains the entire e-text, is cheaper and required.

This class is amazing! I recommend going to class, I love his lectures! He is funny & the lectures are far from boring! Overall the tests are pretty easy as long as you look over the study guide he gives. He is a MUST TAKE professor before you graduate!

Great teacher, very enthusiastic about psych. Doesn't take attendance, but you should show up because lecture material is always on the test. Very entertaining and really nice teacher. Will answer questions during class with ease. Do recommend!

Great professor! Attendance is not required, but you won't pass unless you go to class. The grade comes mainly from four tests. Lowest of the tests is dropped. Professor Maisto is a really interesting person. I don't think I was ever bored in his lectures. Highly recommend this class!

He is a great Professor who is kind of funny and enthusiastic about Psyc. He gives a lot of extra credit. His test can be tough so you must study. Take detailed notes in class and read the book.

Hella easy. Read the book or go to class, but you don't HAVE to do both. His tests are all multiple choice, and if you have base level knowledge you can get at least a B. He has some cool things to say so I recommend going to class sometimes.

This dude is legit. He has the coolest things to talk about. By far the best lectures I have ever sat through.

Good guy - can tell he's really educated. He's done a lot of research. But, his lectures are long and sometimes dull, especially in the beginning. Only 3 tests and a final. Tests are tough and cover more than I thought they should've for a requiredgeneral class - I expected it to be an easy B, but I really worked for it.

While attendance is not necessarily mandatory, you miss a lot of information if you miss a class. The tests are semi tough so you need to read the text book as well as take good notes in class. He is a really enjoyable professor and I would definitely take another one of his courses again!

Maisto is awesome!! There is no homework and attendance isn't required. Tests are really easy if you take good notes and write down what he says in the lecture and not just the slides off of the PowerPoint. The study guides he provides are a really good outline of the tests and helps a lot. Overall easy class and very knowledgeable professor.

Maisto is an awesome professor. The lectures are very interesting and entertaining. He is great at what he does and is very laid back. However, if you're not a really good note taker, you will have to read the book in order to do well on the tests.

There isn't too much I can say about professor Maisto, because I only went to 2 actual classes and got a B. Some people found it extremely difficult, but I think if you actually read the book (which I did) and go to class (which I did not) it will be easy to get an A.

Professor Maisto is by far the best professor ever! He's very clear with his teaching methods, very understanding and very inspirational. He loves what he does, and that's what makes the class that much more interesting. His tests aren't too hard just as long as you take the time to study. Responds quickly to emails, and is always there for you.

He is very interesting in his lectures. Make sure to read the book because half the test is his lectures and the other half is from the book. You have to watch videos and be part of a research study as part of your grade.

By far my favorite professor so far. His lectures are entertaining and I actually found myself enjoying class. He is very straight up with how you will be graded and is very fair. If you read the book, the class is an easy A. He helped me to validate my decision to be a Psychology major.

If you enjoy reading then you can just read the book without going to class and possibly pass the tests but if not then attendance is beneficial. He is a great speaker and the lectures aren't too bad. The homework assignments aren't too much and he is pretty nice.

I loved this professor!! He would always tell amazing stories that helped you remember the material. It was an absolute delight taking this class. 10/10

He is an amazing professor, one whom I greatly hope to take again! His lectures are honestly second to none, he relates amazing to us students, and he always makes himself available to help each student if they ask for his help or need it. I personally enjoyed talking to him once and in those few hours he truly blew my mind. Would take again!

Professor Maisto is great at explaining pyschology. If you need to ask questions before and after test he is willing to help you during his office hours. Some may find his lectures a little boring however, if you take good notes and listen you are sure to do fine. The test are relatively easy if you study.

Dr Maisto is an awesome professor. He was my first college psych professor and made the transition into college classes easy. He explains the first day that 50% of test info is from in class and 50% from textbook. This means you MUST go to class and MUST read the textbook. If you do this, take notes on both, and study, you'll be totally fine.

Most inspirational, inspiring, and knowledgeable professor in the game. SHOW UP FOR CLASS, Listen to his lectures (his teaching style is awesome in the way he explains material and uses personal experience). 3/4 tests count + extra credit and that's all the grades. My favorite teacher because his passion and dedication shows. Effort will be needed!

This teacher is one of the best I have ever had. He provided fascinating topics every class, and I loved that he had personal experience for essentially all the examples he provided in class. He is definitely VERY knowledgeable in Psychology, and I would recommend for everyone to take this professor.

TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU GET THE CHANCE! Attendance isn't required but I never missed a class, he makes psych so interesting. He's a very accomplished psychologist- he knows what he's talking about. 3 tests, online chapter quizzes, research participation (Can be done online), & a final exam. Not a super easy A, but it's possible if you put in effort.

Maisto is a great teacher and very informed in psychology. I would recommend reading the textbook chapters to be successful in the class. There are very few assignments and extra credit but if you don't do well on the test redeeming yourself will be nearly impossible. Good teacher but know that if you don't study or read you will struggle for an A.

I really loved his class, I thought his way of teaching made the class very interesting and relevant. Taking good notes and reading the online textbook is a must!

I hated this class at first. It got much better at the end. His grading system is weird, but you do better than you thought at the end. Exams are TOUGH If you study you can do well though. His lectures are fantastic, textbook is online and you need it for the quizzes at the end of each section, his only grades are the tests. They are not very hard if you go to class and study beforehand.

So, if you read, you should do well (like A range), but I had some issues with knowing what specifically what to study. His lectures are great though, learned a lot. Pretty solid choice overall, great teacher. He's won a lot of awards (I think he said he got an award from a president) so he doesn't care if you fail.

Genuine and made me interested in the topic. I never fell asleep. Make sure you study though!

This was hands down my favorite professor this semester. Absolutely brilliant guy. If you attend class, TAKE GOOD NOTES, and skim the major ideas in the textbook, you should do well in this class. read ready to REEEAAAAAAD! each chapter is like 40 pages, and he gives 3-5 chapter long tests. he includes exam questions from class lectures, legit like "as discussed in class, xxxx?" so please SHOW up to class, he's a lively guy. i'll admit i fall asleep sometimes, but hes fun to listen to! drops lowest exam score! 30 extra credit pts. buy book!!

One of the best professor I've had at UNCC. His lectures are easy to sit through and you learn something new every class. Exams questions come mostly from in-class lectures. If you study, you'll pass. There are 4 exams total, online quiz grades with unlimited attempts, and some research participation.

He is far from the usual monotone professors. His attendance isn't mandatory but I would highly recommend going as if it is, because simply listening and taking notes will help you pass this class and do well. Also, the chapter quizzes are an easy way to gain 15 pts towards fg.

Professor Maisto was fantastic! He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed, advocating for smaller classes. He provides study guides for every exam; be sure to use them! Also, keep up with the reading; since 80% of the exams will be covered by the lectures, if you want to get an A, you will have to do it. Best professor I've had!

He has a true care for psychology, he's not teaching it because it's a job and he needs money. He's retired and teaches psychology for the love of it and he loves to see his students pay attention and do well. Study well and pay attention in lectures and you will get an A easily.

Best professor ever! I absolutely loved his class! The course is very lecture and book heavy, but the material is so interesting that it was fun to learn. You definitely need to pay attention during the lecture, since the majority of the questions on tests come from the lecture! If you opportunity to take his class do it!

He is great. I scored low because I did not study well, but I went to all the lectures and took notes. He has a tendency to ramble, but it's usually relevant to the topic. Reading the textbook helps, but you only need it for the homework access code if you go to lectures. You need to do well on the tests to pass the class, but he makes it possible!
