He is new to De Anza, but an excellent instructor. He is very clear and let students discuss issues in the class. His exams are ok. He talks about the essays before the exam. He is ready to help the students and passionate about the issues. His discussions on debates are excellent. You learn a lot.
i love him........
extremely adorable
This is the worst teacher ever! Don't take him he is un helpful and boring and if he doesn't like you he will fail you.
He is very good teacher. He explains the essay questions before the exam. He encourages the students to participate in the class discussions. He is one of the best teacher in the Political Science dept. I learnt a lot from his lectures. You have to attend and read all the materials. Great teacher.
To me govt.is difficult to understand. But after taking his class, it helped me understand quite a bit more. It has made me more aware of how our govt. functions and what they are doing.
He is a really good teacher!! However he does talk alot so if you take a 3hr and 40min class you might get bored but he really gets you thinking. He wants your opinions he never really states his own. His tests are pretty easy. I would relly recommend this class. Did i mention how nice he is?
He's a really good teacher. Really gets you thinking and explains things well. I just hate the 3hr. 40min class. It numbs your brain after awhile. Take him if you need poli sci 1. But make sure you don't take the 3hr 40min class.
He was an excellent teacher. The 3 hr 40 min class was some what painful to sit for so long but was do able. I am a horrible test taker but did fine on all of his tests. I would really encourage people to take his class.
O.K All stop posting your own ratings. Its tacky and the students will find out the 1st day how fake these posting are. Buyer Beware!
One word - Sucks GPA slayer Boring as hell self posts his own ratings you'll see te 1st day of class the guy doesn't have a clue!!!!!!!!! Buyer beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very good teacher. Makes Political Science FUN.
I think he made this class clear and easy to follow. He explained the material well and gave us study guide.
Boy you still in training pants- you cant teach! Took this class for two weeks and dropped it, this guy has the worse teaching style and had the nerve to be arrogant. Honey no way in hell should he be teaching I guess Barney should be teaching too! Two thumbs down!!!!!!!
I loved this teacher. He is so clear to follow. I am not an honor student but I did very well in this class. He doesnt state his opinions but instead tries to get the students to discuss theirs. Great Teacher the only down side is no homework so you have to do well on the tests. But he does give extra credit!
haha.. dont ever take this class.hes the worst instructor ever.
Excellent teacher. Funny and helpful. Makes Poli.Sc. interesting.
Fantastic teacher.Funny and smart. I found him fair as well. And he's hot :)
This guy is toooooooo rude.
Great teacher, explains material well, prepares you for tests and being an educated voter.... Personally I have no interest in Politics though, and if it wasn't for having such a great teacher i probably would have failed due to boredom and lack of interest in material... He engages his audience and keeps you interested in what he says.
I also might've failed if he wasn't the teacher because political science doesn't intrest me much. He is very passionate about the subject and knows what he's talking about. There are no quizes and only 4 tests (you get to drop the lowest one) go to class and you'll do fine.
This guy is young and makes the lecture engaging with his enthusiasm. Tests on lecture & text. 4 tests, drops lowest score. No homework. Don't need to remember last tests material for the next. I hated politics until I took his class. Unbiased, eye opening. B is doable, A is a challenge.

This guy managed to make a lecture class fun. No homework, but keep up on the reading or you'll be sorry come test day. Interesting to note that all of this teacher's negative reviews came from obvious idiots without the ability to put together a coherent thought or a complete sentence. Schendan is a quality instructor with a sexy smile.
His class is fun. The tests are easy if you read and take good notes. His hot. I have a crush on him. ha
he is hard cant even get a single B in any of his exams. there will be four exams, three multiple choice and one essay. no homework. but no extra credit either. tough.
Exceptionally fun in lecture, as long as you choose to interact. Take good notes, as half of test is from lecture. Buy and use the study guide to help with book learning. I got an A on each exam, including the essay. Extra Credit is time consuming; I’m glad I didn’t need it to get an A. Helpful, informative, and fun teacher.
Cool guy, He is nerdy cute, and gave me all of 'special attention' that i needed. lol
Okay, I'm not an idiot but I thought his class was hard. I don't like Political Science but I really did try my best. I read each chapter before coming to class and took notes. The first mid-term I studied hard and thought I would get at least a 'C' but ended up failing. Most of the class got a 'C' or worse. I ended up dropping the class. Beware
He is really passionate about the class,it is a hard if you dont take note or fall asleep, but he tries to make it so everyone understands what is going on. tests are easy if you actually use study guide and read the book.he drops one test,no homework and there is extra credit. His impressions are really hilarious too. take him if you want to learn
He is really excited about political science even if his students aren't. I had an easy time in this class just taking notes and reading the book but it seems like tons of other people did bad on the tests (which is bad since grade is only based on tests). If your really disinterested in this stuff you will fall asleep in his class.
He is very passionate about the subject which helps make it interesting. He drops you lowest exam score! I thought the class was pretty easy, but I think only about 5/30 people got A's or B's on each exam. He makes the otherwise long class pretty interesting. TAKE NOTES and listen to lectures, it really helps on exams.
He is an ok teacher. you must attend class and take good notes or else you might as well not take it. he thinks class time should be used very well because if there was no need for it, it would be an online class...so he says. but he is very very nice. just make sure your ready to be in a college level class b4 u consider him..
I really liked him. But i can't say the class was easy. You need to work really hard in this class. If you are a slacker Schendan is not for you. You can't miss more then 2 classes, and he teaches things that aren't in the book, so its important to attend. But he is funny and he is smart. Also, one exam grade is dropped and he offers extra credit.
Worst Professor I have ever had. Never responds to Student's call or e-mail. He thinks he is super smart and good professor but he is not, actually he is very irresponsible. Wouldn't recomend him at all. He doesn't understand the situation of working students.
worst teacher I have ever had. Not responsible at all. If you are trying to get hold of him by e-mail or phone good luck. Be warnnnn!!!!
he has really good lectures and will try his best to answer all your questions. 4 tests including the final and he drops the lowest score. Tests are half lecture and half reading with the exception of the 2nd test. he cracks a few jokes every now and but he is a great teacher overall. Also the extra credit can bump your grade up by a huge margin.
Professor Schendan is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I love politics and government already but he managed to keep me interested in a lot of things that were repetition to me. Loves the subject he teaches and it shows in his passion.Very insightful and intelligent. Grade is based solely on 4 exams 3 best scores are kept. Highly recommend
Very nice professor. If you are not interested in history and politics, you might not like it, otherwise very cool. And I must say that he IS very considerate to working students and will allow you to crash his other class to get the notes.
This guy is a damn good teacher but he's hard. He does good impressions and he's funny though.
One sided teaching. Very hard tests. Auctioneer like fast speak mixed with with cheesy humor (good for entertainment). His political stance is obvious.
I didnt like this teacher at all. He was hard to follow, and he was often hypocritical about instructions for tests. I also went to him several times outside of class for help but he told me he couldn't do anything for me. I didn't find this teacher very coorperative, and I didnt like his teaching style at all. Overall a very hard class.
He seemed okay at first, but when I asked him questions after class, he made me feel literally STUPID. Everyone says in he can be "funny" in class, but how does that help him be a good teacher? Political science is hard, if this is not a subject that interests you, TAKE SOME ONE ELSE FOR SURE. Otherwise, you'll be learning on your own. Half the cla
Not a good teacher...was not very clear with his essay prompts and does not want to take the time to help the students...a tough grader...youll never know what he wants exactly in your paper until he's given you a bad grade.
Easy class if you read the book and participate in his lectures. If you don't read the book, the first test - you will fail! Great lecturer. Gets people motivated.
Overall, not a very demanding course; though it is easy to fall flat on your face if you take it too lightly. He's a fun guy to listen to during lectures; and sorta reminds you of Jim Carrey, so I dont remember sleeping much. Most of grade will hinge on test scores... where he drops the lowest one. Good guy.
Pretty cool guy.
took him for political theory.there is four essays and that is your grade.he keeps his class interesting and makes funny impressions.show up to most classes and take notes then use your notes to write the essay and you should get a decent grade.hes not a super easy grader so if your not the best writer make sure to get tutoring.
Very tough grader, but that maybe because he tells you exactly what will be on the test, and even gives you the essay prompts in advanced. he's very passionate about his subject, but isn't too pushy with his personal beliefs. pay very close attention to his lectures and follow along in the books and you should get a decent grade.
overall the class was pretty interesting and he does make an effort at keeping things interesting. Not too hard either, if you put the effort you can get an A. My issue was that he doesn't encourage much critical thinking in your essay. You basically need to emulate what he said in class in the form of a VERY well-structured essay. Fair grader.
he's passionate about the subject & give good lectures but extremely poor in the administrative side. He assumes everyone have some knowledge about political science so he doesn't cater to your needs. He says he does check & respond to emails, I emailed him twice and never received a respond. He doesn't return your exams more than 1 week.
Please Don't take him
OK teacher. Very animated and passionate about politics. You'll be reminded of Jim Carrey. Rolls his eyes at you if you ask a question during the lecture, because he LOVES to hear himself talk. Lots of reading, but he's not very hard. Do the reading and take great notes, and there's no reason to not pass the class. Not very likeable though.
If the grim reaper were a person, that would be Al Schendan. His face will haunt you for the rest of your life.
He thinks you know everything about political. Keeps talking and talking. Talks very fast while your taking notes. Testes are hard. Took him summer 2011. 2in a half hrs with no break. 4 exams. Overall he is hard and he thinks you know lot about political issues but really half of the class haven't took this subject since high school.
6 books read in class, 4 (5-6 page) essays, 100 points each. Prompt given via e-mail no more than a week in advance. All lecture; attendance not mandatory, but he notices. Also, he doesn't use the De Anza e-mail system, so don't try. He can be EXTREMELY intimidating at first, but he has a softer countenance under there somewhere.
This Prof. shouldn't be lecturing, his interpretation of important texts is at a minimum hilarious. He's not fun, he makes fun of students, which is disrespectful is my opinion, not academic behavior at all. No intervals even if your class is 2hours long, and takes over 2 weeks to return your papers. I'm just trying to help you: AVOID HIM!
I don't know what teacher the past couple of people had, but I thought Professor Schendan was extremely helpful. His lectures were engaging and insightful. He's not there to hold your hand through classes and he grades you on the validity and integrity of your work. De Anza needs more professors like him!
This class was great! The lectures were very engaging and all the reading was direct, no second hand analysis of any material whatsoever. However, if you are not good at writing essays I would suggest Nicky Yuen or Bob Stockwell's poli 5 class. The only homework in Albert's class are four essays. Also, most of the books are online for free!
This teacher truly knows how to teach. He gives extra credit, he tells you what will be on the tests, he allows you to get that 'easy A'. You need to leave your ego at the door and just listen and ask questions. He will always help
In the beginning of the class he has you take down 4 strangers emails and expects them 2 do his work for him, I could have raised my grade 2 a C but he never got back 2 me about the extra credit and lo and behold neither did my classmates. He blamed us 4 not knowing "things we should have known by that point in the class." Sounds like a him problem
He's a pretty good teacher. The subject itself is boring, but he tries his best to make it interesting. Really nice guy. The midterms were based on the textbook as well as the lectures so definitely show up and read the book. There's also an in class essay as a midterm, which wasn't too bad. I recommend him!
Pretty good lecturer. But that's all you do. Sit and listen to him lecture and then take exams. No hw to gauge how you're absorbing the information. His grading WILL SURPRISE YOU. He grades pretty difficultly... Don't expect an easy A even if you have taken AP Gov in High school
This is all lecture. The only homework you get are exam questions to answer prior to the exam. IMO, if you listen, take notes, and do what is said on his given syllabus, you'll do very well. He grades, hard, so do more than what is expected and you'll get an A. Excellent teacher! This is not an easy A.
Very interesting lectures, it's obvious he knows his stuff. But he is a really hard grader and a very lazy person. He will give you a low grade on an essay and if you ask him to look at it again will bump you up 5-15 points. Hints: HE GRADES ON QUANTITY NOT QUALITY. WRITE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Not really recommended... I barely scraped an A-
He is very passionate about his class and it makes students want to pay attention. Attendance is important because you need to take good notes. He lets you use your notes on all the exams. read the questions carefully because they are a little tricky. He does offer Extra Credit too. He is overall a good teacher and very knowledgeable.
Prior to taking any classes with Prof Schendan I had decided not to pursue Poli Sci any longer. He is charismatic and engaging. I am attempting to take all my classes with him. He is helpful and honest. He will take the time to review papers before their due date and the course material is super entertaining. Can't get enough of his classes.
He is extremely passionate and knowledgeable. I was intimidated because I heard this class was difficult, but he makes it really interesting. He's charismatic and always gets the class laughing. He also lets you use 5 pages of notes on each exam. If you politics isn't your strong suit take this class!
Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what he teaches. While attendance is not mandatory, it is recommended because he explains things a lot more in depth than what the textbook explains. His exams are a bit tough, but he allows 1 page of notes on his exams. There's a group research project at the end of the course which was fun.
I think he is a wonderful teacher. He isn't the easiest & expects you to do the reading and take good notes. But he is extremely smart, funny, and wants you to understand. If you respect him he will respect you. Hes kindof an jerk sometimes but its funny and likeable in a weird way. Highly recommended though if you want an entertaining class.
I completely agree with the post made on 2/14/2014. He keeps the class interesting because he's funny, passionate, and a good story teller. He almost never goes off topic and does a good job of dealing with annoying classmates. And for some reason, he reminds me of Charlie Sheen haha
he is probably the coolest prof. he makes his lectures interesting by inserting relevant anecdotes and facts. if you're not a polisci person, he makes you like it. just take really good notes during the lectures and be sure to pay attention (although, that won't be too hard)
Very passionate about what he teaches. There are 3 written assignments and a final (identity and write 5 of the 10 quotes he assigns). This class is all about the books he assigns. It is vital to commit to the readings AND attend class or you will fall behind quick. Great instructor. He is very critical about how you write so be sure to write well!
If you read the book, attend lecture, and take notes, there's no way you will get less than a B. Lectures cover 1/3 of what will be on the exams, so read the book. There are three exams and one final which are all structured the same way, and there are EC opportunities. He mugs a lot but also tries to be animated. Class is 1:50 long with no breaks.
This class was so hard for me, but it was worth it. You legit have to work your ass off to get the grade you want, but he is always willing to help. He gives you 3 midterms and 1 final and 30 extra credit points. READ! READ BEFORE CLASS so that you know what hes talking about and do flash cards for every exam so that by the final you don't struggle
Lecture lecture lecture, no breaks, boring, dry. Schendan grades two papers, one midterm, and final. Really hard grader. Don't expect to get an A in this class. If you mess up one assignment, your odds of an A is poof.
Took this class, was extremely dry and boring. You read on about old philosophers and end up falling asleep in his class. Nothing is learned about current events and politics. Its basically a history class for old theories. 2 papers, 2 tests. If you mess up one, no chance of an A. He is also a very hard grader.
Very intelligent professor. Lectures are fun and no matter how stupid your question, he will answer it. The final is 50% of the grade. My first two exams were 90 and 85, but he offers extra credit opportunities and with a good final grade I got an A+. Fun class, learned a lot, would take again and recommend to others. Attendance is HIGHLY advised
don't do it unless you really really really need to. he literally talks for 2 hours straight no breaks. the content has potential to be interesting but somehow he makes it super dry, he doesnt encourage different opinions but would rather on essays you regurgitate his thoughts. tough grader & the 4 books he makes you read are heavy & in old english
I really enjoyed his thorough lectures, his knowlege on the subject matter, his enthusiasm "Oops!" and his detication to help us learn Politics. I would definitely take his courses again and would recommend him. My advise to future students read your notes and read the book, maybe even open a quizlet account to help you and you'll be fine.
Professor Schnendan is an awesome professor. His lectures are very heavy, so be prepared to pay attention and take good notes. His exams are straight out of both the lecture and the book, so just paying attention to the lectures isn't enough to get you through the class. He is open to changing grades if you present a solid argument.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! He is a TOUGH grader and is not willing to help you in any way. His lectures are long, straight with no breaks and usually keeps you in class until the very last minute. The homework he assigns are due at each midterm including the final and the work load is heavy. A lot of reading! He won't pass you if you're not good in tests.
A lot of work load for this class, if you have other classes that are work heavy avoid this class. Midterm and final was a 10 page packet where you have to write long response answers.
Get ready to pay attention for the entire lecture because he does not give breaks. Prof. Schendan is amazing and hella animated when he lectures that it is impossible to fall asleep. He will engage you, but no electronic devices at all. Be ready to write with your pen and notebook. Hard on essays, but it's college. He is handsome in a nerdy way!!
He is a great teacher, and funny, his classes are not boring at all. If you like to text, check social media, or other things that can distract others, HE IS NOT FOR YOU, take an online class instead. Oh no need for you to bring laptop, or any electronic device becuse he believes in old school teaching, meaning paper, book and pencil only.
The toughest grader I've ever come across at the CC level. Only gives one exam that covers a lot of material making it difficult to acquire desired grade. He is also extremely particular when it comes to the take home essays, make time to ask him excactly what he's looking for.
No breaks, doesn't seem interested in helping if you don't understand the class .Never tells you what he is looking for. Too many books, and the list goes on. Don't recommend!
This Professor is one of the best professors that I have ever had. His lectures are great and he explains the readings to perfection. If you don't understand a concept, feel free to ask him, because he never makes you feel stupid. He is a very tough grader and requires a lot from his students, but he is very straight forward. Highly recommend him!!
DO NOT take Schendan. He picks his favorite students and will give them the best grade in class. He is Pro Trump as well which I don't understand since our state is liberal.. Anyways beware of his shenanigans!
Good lecturer who managed to make the class very lively and memorable --He has an inclination to appraise a few of his favorite students, but seems fair to all. Regardless, it was one of my favorite classes, with some of my favorite course material, though the only class I have ever gotten a B in. Tip: Careful on the midterm!
Amazing professor, took him for Poli 1 and Poli 2. He's passionate and cares about his students. Dont be lazy, do your work, it is well worth it.
I really enjoyed this class. There are really not too much reading, and the assignments are quite easy. Yes you will need to go to class to understand the material, and yes you do need to do your homework! But I mean it's college, it's part of the deal. He's really not tough on grading, and very funny, in its own way, but it's worth it! I
His class is very enjoyable but it was hard. Be prepared to do a lot of work and pay close attention to his lectures.
-Grades take-home essays by comparing your work to your peers and assessing your faculties in relation to it, which I find unrealistic - Non-stop in-class note taking for 2 hours - Midterm and final are extremely difficult to finish in time given. I was able too, but I sympathize with the students that couldn't - Only take if interested in topic
-Passionate lecturer. -Tests more on lectures than on readings. -Not very nice or caring. -Impatient with several students. -Not a fan of questions.
I enjoyed his class a lot. All classes were lecture-based, and his lectures were entertaining or insightful. Has a tendency to wander away from the material if you ask questions. Didn't complete the entire planned curriculum, because he adjusts the pace. The online homework was not difficult, and an easy way to get points (make sure to staple!).
Prof. Schendan is a good professor actually. He made the lectures interactive and allowed us to question what we are learning. He gives a lot of work and he can be a tough grader at times though. He offers extra credit so it was worth taking his class in my opinion
just write down everything he says and u should be fine!! make flashcards for the tests, too. two papers and two tests: midterm and final, plus graded notes. not the best pacing for the class and can get snippy when we are behind on a textbook but he gives such engaging lectures! really a nice guy
Very passionate, very caring professor. If you want to have everything you hear in the news make sense, you should take this class.
Grade on exams and papers will be based not when you understand basic principles of political theory. Rather, it's based on whether you can reproduce his philosophical views. This is rank hypocritical, especially since we extensively discuss "liberty of thought." Grades slowly and arbitrarily. Gets snippy when you ask for feedback.
A good lecturer. However, you will do poorly on exams and/or essays if you contradicts his political beliefs.
Schendan was by far the best lecturer Ive ever had. I dont typically write reviews but I felt compelled to praise his excellent teaching. This was the most challenging but most enjoyable course Ive taken. To succeed in this course: READ the material, ask questions, start essays early and have him look over them, and go to EVERY class
Be ready to take notes with paper only. He doesn't accept phones or laptops. He is good at lecturing and says to be prepared with your textbook to backup all material. However, it takes him half the quarter to update grades. He does give extra credit if you're falling behind but doesn't give much more help after test weight.
Schendan is extremely lecture heavy, so please be prepared for that. Yes, he will post the slides online, but it's usually available a week before an exam. Because of that, please don't rely on the slides. Your textbook is going to be your BFF. If you're not going to read, don't take his class. His exams are write-in, not multiple choice.
Prof Schendan is a nice guy. His lecture is inspirational. He is a good teacher but a tough grader. For the midterm and the final, we have to explain 6 quotes, 1 quote 1page + 1 essay of 3pages minimum. So total, he asks you to write more than 9pages. VERY TOUGH GRADER... IF YOU PLAN TAKE HIS CLASS, IT'S FOR KNOWLEDGE NOT A GPA BOOSTER
Very difficult class. The class average on the final exam (worth 25% of our grade) was a 55%. The class average on our second of two essays (worth 17.5% of our grade) was a 59%. Not very accommodating either.
Prof Schendan's class is heavy, but manageable if you absorb the content. No textbook required, he provides PDFs of all readings. There are quizzes on readings, youtube lectures, 2 reflection writings, 2 essays, & 1 final. No extra credit offered & the final was rigorous, but he gives the content/prompts a week early, so I just did it in advance.
This professor has extremely high expectations of the students knowledge base and on all assignments (essays, quizzes etc.) thought the quarter. Meaning the lectures fail to actually explain the material in a comprehending way to the students and written assignments are scrutinized for every single mistake. You'll feel like a failure.
The worst political teacher. A very mean person.
The prof. lectures are prerecorded: he reads off of a paper and mainly teaches his interpretation of the text (which has to be regurgitated in papers, essays and final exam). If this was a Prof. Schendans analysis class his approach would be fitting but I signed up for Political Thought & Theory. (I guess I got his thoughts on the theories)
I took Professor Schendan for Political Theory for the winter 2021 quarter. His quizzes are very lecture heavy and sometimes you won't even find answers in the quiz that fit a question. Also he never let me see my grade EVER because it was locked for whatever reason. I emailed him at the start of the quarter and he never bothered to fix it...2.5/5
I took the class but honestly at the end of the quarter I havent learned much from the class since we had to read all these old texts and the professors explanations of those texts was actually more confusing than the original texts themselves. As a previous commentator mentioned I was also not able to ever see my grade.
Only the white Trump supporter can get A. He will do his best to prevent people of color from entering UC.
I would definitely recommend taking Prof Schendan if you're up for the work. Weekly quizzes and bi-weekly papers. For the final he gives you a list of quotes and then randomly pulls from them and has you write an essay on those quotes. The reading was honestly some of the most interesting reading that I've had, but there's a lot (10+ chaps/week).
This class has a lot of assignments with quizzes and essays. The assignments became overwhelming for me and there wasnt really an incentive for me to keep working harder on the assignments that I already worked hard for when I received a bad grade.
Hands down the worst professor Ive had. Lecture and reading heavy. I do not recommend Schendan. He gives you one minute per question in quizzes and exams which sets you up for failure if you stress during test taking. Questions on exams do not encourage learning, he just wants you to regurgitate random, non-pertinent info. I hate this class!
Terrible! I took his online class. Only gives you 5 minutes on a quiz. The questions on the quiz were mostly random stuff that was mentioned in his lectures not even facts from the actual assigned reading. Tough grader even when you try your best. 2 major essays, 2 reflections, & final is almost 9 pages. “Lectures” are read off a page.
I have never had a professor give such little time to complete quizzes and assignments. Horrible DO NOT TAKE!!!
Professor Schendan probably means well but his class is so difficult. He expects us to read 30 pages of text, 1-2 15-30 min lectures, and a quiz that only has a minute to do every week. It is hard to learn in that class because of all the work I have to do, on top of my other classes. Besides the flaws in his class structure, he is a good grader.
Less than one minute per question on quizzes and exams...
JUST DO NOT TAKE! THATS ALL WHAT I CAN SAY! SAVE YOUR GPA GUYS
Took this class late-start, and all of the exams, quizzes, and papers were open to do at my own pace.
NOT WORTH OF MY TIME FOR THIS SPRING QUARTER. A HORRIBLE CLASS JUST SAVE YOUR GPA AND YOU BARELY GET TIME ON THE QUIZZES SMH!!!!
His grading is insanely hard and doesn't give useful feedback so you can't even improve. I know a lot of people are dropping this class because he's failing them. Horrible tests with confusingly worded questions that are difficult to do well in. Not sure if he fails students who are just trying to get into universities as a power trip or what
Awful communicator, his work is so weirdly organized. Everytime I tried to email him he would practically ignore the point of my email. Never hated a class so much.
Jfl at this dudes hairline receding + became a passport bro. Mirin low inhib grading. Someone tell him to get on .org immediately or it's over. Dnrd + cope
Pros: - Interesting readings, such as Utopia, On Liberty, Federalist Papers - yeah that's about it Cons: - 23 minutes for a 30 question exam. - You cannot speed up the recorded lectures - Tests are ambiguous Overall, don't take this class. Teacher has poor understanding of exams, inadequate technology for lectures, and will give you stress.
All the tests and quizzes are timed but you have less time than there is questions, for example if a test had 30 questions you only got 15 minutes to complete it. He doesn't post his lecture slides. save urself
Tough grader who doesn't provide useful feedback. Quizzes and assignments are overwhelming, with little time to complete. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for prep, but wouldn't recommend this class.
All tests/ quizzes are timed with impossible time limits. He didn't grade the essay worth 25% of the grade until the very last minute (which brought my grade down a whole letter). Does not allow essay revisions. The grading rubric is very very vague and he doesn't give essay grading feedback unless you specifically email him and ask. Very stressful
Professor only has one office hour PER WEEK and I WAITED 1 HOUR JUST FOR HIM TO EMAIL THAT HE SPENT THAT HOUR WITH ONE STUDENT. What kind of professor are you? How are you gonna down grade on something that is opinion based.
I won't even call him a professor, he is hardly even a teacher. Grades very harshly with ambiguity and does not provide written feedback for your paper. There is also no example of what your paper is expected to look like, so you just write your paper and hope it meets his bs criteria.
Schendan is an unnecessarily tough grader. I am usually a Straight A student, I've never gotten a C on a paper in my life before this class. Let alone an opinion piece. His feedback is few and far between. Avoid this professor at all costs if you can help it. If you can't, make sure to never miss deadlines for even the mini quizzes. No extensions.
This is the worst professor BY FAR from the three universities I've attended. Completely disengaged, no response to emails inquiring about feedback, and grades extremely harshly with no feedback whatsoever. Exams are 45 questions in 35 minutes, when the quotes in the questions alone take a minute to read. Avoid at all costs. Wants students to fail?
I am a high-achieving senior in high school (4.6 GPA). The first paper I was accused of using AI (20%) and he told me to drop the course. After I explained myself, he said he would regrade the parts that weren't flagged BUT NEVER DID, leaving it as a 0. Essay grading is completely random and does not provide feedback. Does not respond to emails.
