Very helpful and easy, always helping students out, and one of the best teachers I've had at USF. If you have to take a chem lab for sure take it with her, you can't go wrong!
She was a great teacher and awesome. Can't say much more than that. Don't even ask yourself "should I take her". Take her. She's the best USF has to offer, guaranteed. Very clear as to what she expects and what will be on the test.
It's usually pretty hard to pick out a lab professor on a count of they don't tell you who's teaching which section until the week of. But if you can, I highly recommend her for Chem 2 Lab. She doesn't grade too hard, and is very helpful if you don't understand something. Overall the best TA I've had so far.
She is an awesome TA! Her grading is very fair and is very approachable if you have any questions. I would highly recommend her lab class!!
Hasim is nice, but she is constantly making mistakes when teaching - either in her PowerPoint or when speaking aloud. She I'd teaching material she doesn't know (she admitted as such) which makes me wonder why she is teaching it.
Hashim was really nice however she makes many, many mistakes while lecturing. Also she is a big fan of saying "read the book"," even though she has no idea what's in our book. If you go to her office hours she will help you but be prepared to wait 30 minutes. Orgo is a tough class and she is doing the best a teacher could do. Would take again.
She is EXTREMELY helpful, yes, she makes mistakes, but who doesn't? She always clear on what she is expecting from students, she gives good study guides for exams and gives a lot of extra credit! Comparing with other professors, she wants you to succeed and have a good score in the class. She is nice, always polite and respectful. I recommend her
Gives so many extra credit opportunities its ridiculous! She tells you what to expect on the exams and does not put anything you haven't seen before. She wants everyone to succeed and do well in her class. She is very accessible ad approachable. Would recommend over any other orgo teacher at UCF
I am so happy that Hashim was my orgo professor this semester. She messes up on her powerpoints & in class, but if you read the book you will be fine. She explains exactly what will be on tests and has many ec points on tests. She gives lots of quizzes but they are easy and fair. She is a sweetheart and very caring person. Would take again
She is not a good lecturer. All she does is read the slides and sometimes sounds unsure of what she is saying. That being said, she is a really easy teacher. 80% is an A, tests are easy, and she gives extra credit. I mean don't slack off, make sure you're reading and learning the material, but compared to OTHER biochem teachers this is a breeze.
Biochemistry with Dr. Hashim was very much enjoyable and intresting. I now like biochemistry and find it an intresting field. I'll take biochemistry II if she teaches it. I must add, Biochemistry has a lot of information, be prepared to study!
If online is optional, go to class, albeit professor hashim does not explain well, it is even worse when you are online.
Don't take chem with Professor Hashim! She reads straight from the slides and when asked questions she either ignores you or explains in even more complicated terms. If you're given the option to go in person or on Teams, go in person. She's always muted on teams, doesn't listen to students, and doesn't show the sample problems.
She does not actually teach, she puts up a PowerPoint and reads directly off the slides which provide practically no information. The class itself is not that hard but if you havent taken Chem before you will struggle. She is never available and if youre online she just skips class more than any student. Im honestly not sure why she is teaching.
Reads straight off a powerpoint, often moving too quickly to properly take notes. The vast majority of the class is graded off tests, so good luck if you're not a good test taker.
Don't take it with her if you don't have a good chem foundation. She jumps all over the place and doesn't take the time to explain the sample problems. She doesn't give you time to ask questions and is rude when you answer incorrectly. Tests are worded differently than study guides. She doesn't care if you can't see/hear her on teams.
She's always muted on the Microsoft Teams meeting the entire time, when students point it out, she flat out ignores everyone and keeps going. Constant technical difficulties on her part where she does no effort to find a solution. She reads all of the information from a PowerPoint created by Pearson. Constantly makes mistakes while teaching. Awful.
She's a very careless teacher, if you send her a message with any inquiries or questions; chances are she won't reply to you at all. (Or she'll by the time it's too late). Be prepared to teach yourself the lessons. Also, the majority of the grade in this class relies on exams and tests. Homeworks and participation won't help you much.
Reads off of slides, doesn't teach material very effectively.
You can pass her class with an A if you work hard and put in time outside of class. However, her lectures are hard to follow and she doesn't communicate everything very well. Yet, she is a nice lady and she is understanding. She is not mean but her teaching style is hard to follow.
She reads off the powerpoint slides. Her pace is behind other chem classes so some topics that are on the test were not covered until the class after. A lot of studying outside of class time is needed to pass.
JUST AWFUL!!
She was an O-K professor. My biggest concern is that our class was behind, so there was always material on tests that she never went over until after the test. She didn't even attempt to catch us up. Also it's very hard to understand her lectures because it's almost like goes too fast and does information overload. She is good at biochem i hear
She's ok. She seems very knowledgeable in the subject, however she moves very fast and doesn't take time to explain things to the class. She overcomplicates a lot of the terms and explanations, making it difficult if you haven't taken chemistry before. Also, go in person because she doesn't pay attention to the people online.
She read off of her power points that she didn't make so she wasn't able to explain the material. She would read the material wrong so you would never be able to understand what the slides even mean. She also talked very fast and ignored anyone who had a question. The only way you would pass this class is if you taught yourself everything.
You will have to teach yourself EVERYTHING if you take this professor. Do not put yourself through this. She does not explain anything well and the tests are too hard to have a bad professor like this.
This class is good for you only if you can teach yourself the stuff youre supposed to be learning. While giving her lecture it comes off as a high schooler reading a presentation word for word without explaining it further. I have seen so many people raise their hand only to be ignored. I really dont recommend
Luckily the grading scale is so forgiving otherwise I would have failed this class. One of the worst professors I've ever encountered. Reads directly off the already information-overloaded powerpoints with little to no further explanation, and completely ignores raised hands. We were constantly behind making difficult tests worse. Spare yourself.
The way she teaches concepts is so backwards and hard to understand. She's also difficult to cooperate with and doesn't tend to answer questions well.
lectures are hard to follow
The only reason why I did decent in this class was bc I took AP chem, but even my teacher taught 100x better than this professor could. Constantly behind in lectures, never answers any questions, just reads off the ppt which you can do yourself. Save yourself the struggle, and your gpa.
Spends 20 minutes elaborating a simple concept on one slide and <2 minutes on a slide completely covered in important text. She reads off of the powerpoints, and when she does deign to teach, it's unnecessarily overcomplicated. I spent class time ignoring her and reading the powerpoint, and outside time helping people. The textbook teaches better.
This class was horribly difficult due to the fact of the professor's teaching skills. She teaches us as though we know all the information already and she doesn't feel the need to elaborate on anything. She was basically the reason I decided to change my major, not a good teacher.
Dr. Hashim is a nice woman, who seems knowledgeable in the subject of Chemistry. This being said, she is not a good lecturer and she does not take questions in class. She elaborates on small things but not enough on broader concepts. You will have to teach yourself. If you take CHM 2045 with her, please make sure you have decent study habits.
I typically don't do these, but today I decided to save a life. I don't know how she is still employed by the University of South Florida. All she does is read off of a powerpoint with absolutely no explanation. I've learned more in chemistry honors during my sophomore year of high school. Do yourself a favor and find another chemistry professor.
She reads straight from a PowerPoint and never answers questions. Also, not that good at grading assignments in a timely and efficient manner. If you can take Tang, take her.
Professor Hashim is one of those teachers who does not seem to be on the students side. She drops good grades and does not respond to emails. Her lectures are hard to follow even though she just reads off the slide. I changed my major after this class.
In order to get a good grade, you have to teach yourself, I have to watch YouTube videos in order to understand anything because she doesn't teach anything in class. When reviewing in class, she will go through the iclickers so fast there's not enough time to think about it and then there's little to no explanation afterwards.
I've taken a few other chem classes and I have never had such a terrible professor! If you want a professor that actually teaches and helps you understand whats being taught do NOT pick this professor. She actively avoids calling on students when they have questions. In order to pass this class you will have to teach yourself.
Adds in lots of grades last minute and completely kills grade. Terrible teacher, does not know how to engage class as all.
Not great at explaining, had to teach myself most of the concepts.
Dr. Hashim is not a great lecturer, it was easier for me to just teach myself. I personally would not recommend taking her class, I would recommend avoiding it. In her lectures she contradicts herself several times making it hard to follow along and actually learn Chemistry.
Professor Hashim is very nice and knows a lot about chemistry. However, she does not know how to engage the class. She reads off powerpoints but that is my preferred way of learning, and she explains in a way that makes sense to me. I personally liked her. I think the exams fairly reflected what we were taught in class.
She was an okay teacher. The class is challenging and going to lectures helps reinforce material but studying on your own is how you can truly succeed in the class. At first her teaching style seems fast but once you become familiar with it, it's easy to keep up.
Professor Hashim does know chemistry very well but she fails to teach it to others well and in an engaging manner. I felt like I depended on outside resources for most of this course. Your grade consists of tests, weekly homework, iClicker points, and peer leading points. I disliked how she rarely had office hours.
Hashim is a nice person and seems knowledgeable about chemistry, but thats about it. I had horrible sciences teachers throughout high school and she still manages to underperform them. She actively avoids calling on students when they have questions and doesnt respond to emails. Half the time she doesnt even open Teams for class. Just take Tang.
-Forgets to teach us things that are on the test -is unsure of her own work -isn't clear -reads off the power point -makes too many confusing mistakes during lecture
Absolutely terrible! So disengaging and reads directly from ppt. When working a problem, she is either unclear, unsure, wrong, or does it in the most complicate way first. AVOID IF YOU CAN! Tang or Pham is your best bet.
chemistry isn't an easy subject, she is no good at explaining the material I had to watch lecture videos to understand the material in class and of course that was not enough I had to withdraw from the course and will be taking chem 2 with a better professor over the summer. Try to register for classes early to avoid taking Professor Hashim.
She reads off the slides and cannot teach well. She skips the question midway through explaining it, making confusion skyrocket. I do not recommend taking her for Chemistry, but I have heard she's good at other subjects that have background information like biochemistry or organic chemistry. Not good for a starter like General Chemistry 1 though.
She is a decent professor and a nice person. Her lectures can be boring but you only have to attend enough to max out your clicker points. She uploads a good amount of resources on the course page to at least do decent in the class.
I really hate to leave a bad review, but I feel like it's my responsibility to let anyone who cares enough to check a professors ratings on here that they should not take her General Chemistry I class. The teacher has a hard time explaining the material. I don't know a single person in her section who isn't struggling with Chemistry.
She reads off of powerpoint and can contradict herself at times. Don't take her unless you have a strong background in chemisty. Note that all sections of gen chem 1 and 2 have the same grading criteria -- so go for a stronger teacher in explanations.
USF really must be struggling to have to keep a prof like this on payroll. 80% of the grade is determined by exams and the other 20% are quizzes. She is a horrible lecturer, but thank god there's a book right? Wrong! She said that there isn't a book in this class and that "you can use any textbook that says biochem on it." Great. Just avoid her pls
I should have listened to the reviews but I was desperate to find a class that fit my schedule. I feel like I have learned absolutely nothing from her class. She is incredibly disorganized (her lecture powerpoints arent even available half the time) and she contradicts herself. This class makes me want to drop out of usf and go to a different uni.
Not good at all.
Does not explain anything. Learned more from peer review.
You must learn everything on your own. Her lectures are PowerPoints in which she reads through them and immediately goes to the next with no explanation. The only reason I am doing well is cause of online videos I am using to teach myself and extensive tutoring. You would be substantially better off learning from a student than this teacher.
Absolutely Horrendous. Great person, terrible teaching. I leave the class more confused than when I entered. She also somehow ends up confusing herself when she literally just reads off of a powerpoint. You think you're doing a problem right and following along but nope, she scratches out ten things from the problems and then overcomplicates it.
Just don't even bother with this professor. She doesn't teach, she confuses herself during the lecture, and she's unreliable with having class. She's a sweet person, but as a professor it's a struggle. I'm basically teaching myself the material via the text book and other students who have other professors. It's not worth it.
Dr. Hashim does below the bare minimum. She reads through the slides then explains half-heartedly and unclearly, and doesn't work problems step by step. She cancels class last minute and does not respect our time. I wanted to like her, but I find it very difficult to be confident in her class.
She cancels half of lectures and posts reviews at midnight the day before the test. Lectures are pointless to attend. She reads quickly over slides and ignores hands raised in class. Honestly, she makes it so difficult to succeed in her class, when a class average for a test is 68% you should be embarrassed as a professor.
Terrible professor. Learning everything online. Going to class only confuses you. Go to a different professor
She doesnt explain well or care about our success; goes too fast, confuses herself, and just reads from the slides which are mainly incorrect. Half the stuff she "teaches" she says we dont need. Our class got a D average on the test and she doesnt get that its her fault. I learn only from YouTube and peer-leds. My peer-led teacher actually teaches.
Confuses herself, gets corrected by other students, teaches easy concepts in the hardest way possible.
Useless lectures, does not explain herself well and goes at a very rapid pace. Does not answer student's questions and costs people their grade with her teachings. Class average of the most recent exam was a 68 and did not take responsibility for her very bad teaching. Students have begun to go to other lectures because hers are not useful.
Our class is literally having a letter drafted to send to the dean with multiple student names on it. We are tired of having this professor act like it is our fault we are doing poorly in this class when it is extremely evident who the issue truly is. Hashim should be ashamed of themself as a professor. USF needs to do something about this.
do whatever you have to do to not take hashim. change your whole schedule, take an 8am or night class, drive to another campus. as a junior who has had a lot of different teachers, this is the worst one i've ever experienced. my class has begun to sit in on other teachers lectures simply to understand the material hashim is supposed to be teaching.
She might know her stuff but she can't teach at all. Makes very simple high school-level chemistry things sound so complicated. Only take this class if you hate your GPA. She doesn't care about her students or that they're struggling, as long as she gets paid. Her lectures and powerpoints are useless, attendance is the only reason I go to class.
She is the worst professor I have had at USF. Please do yourself a favor and take literally any other teacher. She basically teaches nothing, and she is not even on time to post materials. One time she posted her study guide 8 hours before an exam. Take any other professor for chem because the other 2 professors have good reviews.
I cannot wait for the day she gets fired from USF. She is an abysmal professor and doesn't deserve the right to be teaching at our school. She is a horrid lecturer and can't answer a question to save her life. That is... if she actually answers your questions. She always says "any questions?" then proceeds to not call on the people that have them.
If I had the chance to go back I would make sure that nobody took this prof. She is so horrid that it makes me sick to think that she was somehow able to slip through the cracks and become a prof here at USF. I hope that the department takes a look at her end of semester reviews and really thinks about letting her come back. Adios garbage can.
Dr. Hashim is knowledgable on biochem but she cannot teach to save her life. She does not lecture well and you have to teach yourself. This is absurd considering biochemistry is very difficult already. There is no way to truly be prepared for her exams as her learning objectives are broad and she is not overly helpful. I hope I can at least get a C
Horrible professor, like no joke.
Look man, I don't want to blame her because it seems like the department just needed a warm body to stand in for a biochem class. If anything I blame the department for acting like this is acceptable. She doesn't use any of her own material and instead uses merkler's and she's not very knowledgeable when it comes to biochem. Biochem dept is a joke.
I have never had such an incompetent teacher. She would say she was going to have office hours at a specific time but then never shows up. She is horrible at teaching and never answers any questions with a straightforward answer. Eventually I just stopped going to class and relied heavily on the textbook. Horrible professor.
Take these reviews seriously and good luck if you go with her anyways. This class is possible to pass by yourself but it does take a lot of time. If you want to have a teacher (since you're paying for one), don't take this professor.
I didnt even want to do this and waited until the very end to report a rating incase things changed. I came into this school expecting to join the medical field and Hashim proceeded to make me entirely lose interest in the field of chemistry. She lacks everything a teacher needs, and if I didnt need the credits I would have left. AVOID AVOID AVOID
For me, her lectures are pointless bc she reads off of PowerPoints that aren't even hers, cancels office hours frequently, & TA is no help, but quizzes are dropped, grading scale is curved & exams are multiple choice w/ written extra credit. Read the textbook/study learning objectives, watch YouTube videos & just be lucky you're passing with her.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. She drones on in her lectures, doesn't fully answer most of students' questions, and generally does not seem like she knows what she's doing. She doesn't even show up to office hours half of the time. Please don't waste your time and money on her class, teaching is definitely not her strong suit.
Boring lectures, don't bother asking questions she will just explain everything she just said in the exact same way.
PLEASE take literally any other CHM2045 professor. Hashim does less than the bare minimum for her students. She reads off her own PowerPoints like she's never seen them before in her life and gets her own example problems wrong! I had to teach myself everything because her lectures were so confusing. Don't make the mistake I did AVOID at all costs!
Shes very knowledgeable in Chemistry and isnt the greatest presenter the slides arent hers tho theyre from another prof which they all use, they kinda suck tbh However with that being said she is mid at presenting and its hard to understand if u didnt read the assigned work for the day as there are times she no go into detail like she does at times.
Avoid
Powerpoints she uses in class aren't very helpful (wrong spelling, things we don't need, wrong iclicker answers...) and will not call on you to answer your questions.
Any positive review that is made on here was literally made by her or her TA. She stated this in lecture and said that her ratemyprofessor score wasn't accurate of her teaching in her office hours. She's a liar and makes her classes unfair. Go steal some other professor's material and maybe a job at McDonalds too.
Honestly, she's not that bad if you know how to apply yourself out of class: studying, looking over notes, etc. However, she does contradict herself during class, which causes lots of confusion lol. But if you're willing to actually put in some work outside of class (which you technically should be doing anyway), you'll be fine.
this class was chm2023. She was not a good professor. She seemed like a smart lady, but her lectures were all over the place, constantly correcting her own mistakes and contradicted herself. We didn't have access to our book for the first 3 weeks and she expected us to do all 3 weeks' worth of hw and quizzes in 4 day.
After Test 1, she made everything confusing, and a really bad explainer. I found her tough to understand, and did not post as many resources as the other professors.
As a first year transfer student, this class exceeded my expectations as being extremely difficult with the lack of communication, information whatever lack luster it was, not being posted in a timely manner. You are stuck studying the book and looking to outside resources on youtube to not fail this class. If you take her watch AK lectures.
Worst teacher I have ever had. BEWARE. There is no point in going to class because she does not teach, she only skims through power-points so fast that you can't even take notes. But there is an attendance quiz every class so you have to go to class. I had to re-learn everything she "taught" us for the exams using Youtube.
She is good for Chem 2023, not listed on here for some reason. Its mostly self directed study, reading the textbook/powerpoints. At least for intro 2023 you'll be totally fine. Discussions are actually helpful. She's very helpful at her office hours, very nice and approachable.
Dr. Hashim was a nice lady who would help students understand labs (when we were there). However, she didn't give us lots of info on preparing for pre labs and it felt like we had to figure them out on our own.
Worst professor you can take. If you are stuck with her just go to another professor and learn from them. They all have the same test.
Dr. Hashim is probably better than 90% of the rest of the other lab personnel. She's very caring and takes the time to help people out a lot and understands we have lives outside of the class. She grades very generously and is very chill. If possible I'd like her to continue being my lab teacher for the rest of my chemistry courses.
She's a very caring professor who definitely cares about her students. However, she wasn't the best at teaching and it honestly felt like I wasted my time going to the lectures.
While she isn't the best at lectures, she was an amazing lab professor. She was always ready to help, never looked down on students for asking questions, and always gave 100's for pre- and post-labs.
