He was really cool and probably the easiest caulculus teacher in the entire department. I would recomend him for sure, the only thing that sucks is that you can't understand what his saying because of his thick spanish accent.
Couldnt understand a word, he couldnt understand the students either
VERY EASY!!! his tests easy and he curves them all. i admit that his accent is sometimes hard to understand but if you have previous background in calculus, then this class is a breeze. There are 4 tests, you drop your lowest and then there is a final, which is also curves. I got an A+ in the class and barely went to class.

What is he saying? Bad professor, stay away!!!!:(
Can't understand him and I basically went from the book. Very bad teacher, if you have a choice take someone else!
He assigns problems from the book which really help. Sometimes there are problems just like the ones he assigns, and sometime's he'll even say "know this." His accent is a little tough at first, but if you pay attention you'll get used to it quickly.
He's horrible. Never actually answered anyone's questions at all. Very unclear about everything. For an adjunct, he's absolutely useless.
Horrible teacher, will go through 3-4 sections a day, spending minimal time on each. Doesn't go over homework, hard accent to understand and most of the test problems aren't like the homework.
Overall he isn't a very good teacher. He is very unclear about what you need to know. When asked about homework and tests (concerning material covered) his answer is often times, "why not?". His accent is very difficult but not impossible to understand. After the final drop deadline, he starts to give lots of extra credit, but that's the only plus.
His accent as well as his hand writing is really hard to understand. He never goes over the homework and goes through a few sections each class at a very fast pace. The worse thing is that he doesn't post anything on blackboard, therefore you will never know your current grade.
Teacher doesn't care much about what's going on in his back. Will continue to lecture even though everyone is talking/not listening. Will not stop for homework. Tests are pretty hard considering he doesn't go over the homework and that's basically what the tests are. Gives alot of time for tests though. Big curves and low grades, but I survived.
In-class practice problems and quiz problems are easy, test questions are insanely difficult. His accent is difficult to comprehend, and he makes many small mistakes in example problems that only confuse everyone even more.
wow this guy is pretty bad. If you can do every problem in the text book that isnt close to what you will have to know to take this guy's tests. tests are impossible and not curved much. his questions are unrealistic and unlike anything practiced in or out of class. i know calculus darn well but i do not have to ability to take this guys tests.
This class was ridiculous! His accent is very hard to understand, his writing is even worse, and the test are extremly difficult. Even if you do all the recommended hw it does not even come close to the difficulty of the test questions. For the final I studied forever just to take the class again. Class average was a D+. Don't take this class!
Seriously, this guy should not be teaching. His accent is nearly impossible to understand, as well as his handwriting. He makes a lot of small mistakes during lectures, which makes the material even more difficult to understand. And his tests are incredibly difficult. He is a terrible instructor in every aspect.
I got a low grade on every test even though I studied a lot. His test are very difficult does not give partial credit. Gives extra credit problems but that still did not help. I did all my homework so it seems you have to study beyond the book.
Worst professor ever!!!
For the sake of your GPA, try to taken another instructor. His teaching style is very obscure and his test are ridiculously hard. PLEASE KEEP AWAY!!!
HORRIBLE!!! Take Kartsatos instead, much better lecturer and a pretty funny guy. "The Etch killer" will massacre your GPA.
I had him the first week of class. Very thick accent and does not teach very well. He assigns practice problems from the book to complete but does not grade, collect, or go over them. His lectures are boring and useless because he rambles about superflous things. Luckily, I was able to pick up another professor. I would advise you to do the same.
I attended this class and got a good grade because the teacher grades on the curve. If you know the material well, you should take this class since he does not assign hw or check for attendance!
I passed the AP calc exam and tutored calc for a year +. This class is so hard I had to drop. He puts the most impossible probelms ever on the tests, and during class he barely skims the basics. In lecture, he OFTEN makes major mistakes that he recognizes but doesn't correcy. If math is not your strong subject, don't take. If it is, just beware.
It doesn't matter how hard you study, or who you ask for help. The problems are IMPOSSIBLE. The books problems arn't that bad, but when it comes to quizes and tests each one takes pages to finish! I HATED this class and i LOVE math. If it's at all possible DO NOT TAKE HIM.
The material on its own is hard but add in a hard to understand accent, being taught the material in a confusing way, and really hard tests, and this professor is what you got. I love math and usually do well in it, but this semester I am doing terrible and not really liking this class. AVOID this class if AT ALL possible.
teacher is pretty difficult to understand but you get used to him eventually. tests are pretty hard, very few questions that are a lot harder than the book questions. the best thing about the class is the few take home quizzes that really helped my grade because i could get help. dont take unless you have to.
Very Hard teacher, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, unless you are familiar with calculus. He does give take home quizzes to go towards your test grade, but his test are extremely hard. I studied by doing book problems and going to tutoring and his class was still hard. But he is not a bad man, he just makes his test difficult and very long.
I had Dr. Hou last spring and dropped the course before taking this one this fall. He does assign homework but it's not graded; it does show up on the exams. His accent is thick and difficult to follow at first. He goes at a slower pace than Dr. Hou. His exams are not too bad but make sure that you work on both the homework & review; it helps!
I dropped this class after the first exam..my friend and I took the class together. Seriously, the tutors even had trouble with his questions. All he does is write an equation down and prove it..I can do that myself by reading the book!!! I really wanted to learn calc and he did nothing to satisfy that at all. Avoid!!!!!
Pretty good teacher. I had no problem on his tests.
He's so funny!! I loved his class a lot, and had no trouble with the math at all. It's an easy A if you pay attention. I love how he gives examples for everything!! :) Great teacher! Especially if you don't mind accents. lol :]
STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT TO LEARN ANYTHING! Every class period he messes up on what he is teaching us. He will go through a whole problem and tell us nvm that he did it wrong. DOES NOT CURVE and NO EXTRA CREDIT. STAY AWAY!! Nice but USF really needs to monitor this guys lectures. WORSE PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!
What I loved about this class was that attendance was not mandatory and homework was only suggested and not graded. He would go over anything you had problem on (you get used to the accent) But if you felt comfortable with the material, there was no need to go to class expect for test days.
SO if you are good at math and able to interpret it by yourself or have a friend help you, this class is easy. He isn't going to spoon feed it to you, but I thought this class was less stressful than others. No graded homework (though you should still do it to pass the tests) and no attendance points. I thought he was very helpful and sweet.
this is the worst teacher i have every had! he told me the wrong class code for the online homework and now its the day before the exam and he just told me the right code so i had to buy a new book and do a semesters worth of homework and study for 2 exams in 1 day. DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING! CORRECTS HIMSELF 10 TIMES A DAY!
He is a very intelligent person, but does not always convey the info clearly to students. He does his best to help you when you ask. He makes a lot of mistakes while lecturing, so pay attention. Do the online homework and go through the practice tests he gives. With hard work, an A is possible. He tries to make jokes in class to lighten the mood.
I got an A+. The class was simple in that there was graded homework on mymathlab that helped tremendously with learning material. Dr. Etcheberry was very nice, though a little hard to understand and was too smart for me to keep up with what he did in class. However, the tests were fair and straightforward.
Dr. Etcheberry was a decent teacher. The class was not that difficult but he does have a thick accent that takes some getting used to. Most of his tests have a strong curve (about 15 points) and he gives adequate points for partial credit. Attendance is not taken but going to class will only make your grade better.
Mr. Etcheberry is a great professor. Like others have said he does not spoon feed, but will help you if you ask. The book is a must to supplement this class! He has a rather strong charisma, and I will miss him for future courses. His accent is thick at first, but I don't even notice it now, some of the accents are even kind of funny.
He knows the material, but does not know how to teach it. I went to every lecture and did all the homework, but I still failed most of the tests. Had to drop on the last day. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
All the quizzes are easy as long as you do MyMathLab but the tests require critical thinking as he gives questions that you haven't really seen before, tests are usually multiple choices, but the ones that are free response are generally easier, attending class won't help you, its all about the book
This professor does not TEACH. Do not take if you want to pass with an A. He has a thick accent, and does not answer questions. He reads off of a piece of paper and writes it on the board, but doesn't explain how he got the answer. I've never experienced a worse professor/teacher in my life and I'm a junior at USF.
He is simply the worst teacher I have ever had. He skips steps when he teaches and expects you to follow easily. If you ask questions, he usually doesn't understand what you're asking or he just ignores you. He also makes many mistakes when doing problems. His tests are extremely difficult and he really doesn't care whether you do well or not.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He has a really thick accent and he can't hear very well. Do not bother going to class. Going to class is a waste time as he doesn't explain what he is doing. The tests are also quite difficult as the questions that are on the test aren't the same style as what is in the book. Avoid him at all costs.
Not the best math teacher. I previously took precalc in high school so I think that is what saved me. I learned nothing in the class. He has a very thick accent. Nice guy though.
Very hard to understand. Often makes mistakes. Make sure to bring a pillow so when you lose consciousness your head wont slam on your desk.
Does a lot of proofs for the formulas, and very few examples. I honestly wonder why I even show up to class. Everything he does is straight from the book. I have not learned a single thing in that class that I haven't taught myself or had a tutor help me. Unfortunately I don't have time to teach myself and study as I need to.
Scheduled quizzes. Tests are easier than HW. Extra credit and curves did happen but were unexpected and not in syllabus. drops lowest test and quiz. HW is webassign and you have plenty of time to do it.
Dr Etcheberry was a great professor. He writes his own tests instead of pulling problems from the book. As a result, students are better off using his study guide to prepare for tests. Tests are moderate to difficult. He reasonably curves tests (no grade-savers).t was his obsession with making us draw 3D shapes in order to solve some problems.
Attendance is not mandatory. Quizzes and tests are easy. He is ready to help and it is an easy A if you work hard. He is a very nice person.
Hard to understand! Gives 4 tests and a final! Makes many mistakes in class and on grading your exams. First class I've ever failed before.
I'm not sure why this prof has such a low rating. The grade is based off WA homework and inclass tests and quizzes. Tests/quizzes are easier than the WA homework and he allows a formula sheet that you can bring for the test. He's good at explaining the subject, though he does have a thick accent and will occasionally make arithmetic errors.
Professor Etcheberry is a very kind older gentleman. That being said, I would not take a course with him again. He is very unclear and makes many mistakes during his lectures and examples. If you must, take him at a later time in the day -- maybe he will fix his mistakes for other classes.
He goes into a lot more detail in class than is necessary for the tests, but he does plenty of in class examples that are helpful for the test. He is very helpful during his office hours and most tests are almost identical to his exam review (for the harder tests, he lets you omit 1-2 questions depending on the length of the test).
Avoid at all costs. He derives the proof for most formulas when it isn't needed. He has a bad accent but that wasn't too big of a deal. As far as teaching though, he was horrendous. He makes at least 3 mistakes on every problem and its just more confusing. This class requires a lot of visualizing of 3D objects and with him it makes things so hard.
Buy the book- you'll need it for homework! Has a heavy accent, but easy to follow the board. Drops the lowest test (including final) and lowest quiz. Homework is optional- BUT DO IT! Tests are based off class problems and homework- and offers bonus questions and curves. Bring a laser pointer to class- he's terrible at answering questions.
Etcheberry is a nice old man, however, the lectures are very difficult to follow. Instead of giving formulas or useful rules and tips, he spends most of the lecture deriving one rule, and ends up making mistakes and dismissing the whole problem. Be ready to self study. Drops lowest test score, 4 tests, 5 quizzes, hw due at the end of the semester.
He's ok. He does examples in class and derives proofs but messed up on average two problems each class if not more. Recommends questions from textbook but on the test it is nothing like it. The one time he made a review is the one time i passed a test. He is helpful outside of class though. Rip good luck teaching yourself and clutching a good grade
Just finished my class with him and I cant be happier right now. He is a nice man but the class was really tough as the tests were extremely hard. Thank god he curved the tests, I wouldnt have passed (and most of the people in the class either) if it werent because of it.
Grade based on 3 tests (drops 1), 1 final, quizzes (drops 1), and WebAssign HW. Only works out problems on board. Little opportunity to engage in problem solving. Makes frequent mistakes, hard of hearing. Communication skills are subpar. Helps during tests/quizzes if stuck. You have to read the book & work outside class if you're going to succeed.
Class is easy to pass, he is very lenient and drops multiple lowest test and quizzes when there are only like 4 test and quizzes total in the class. Homework is optional, and if you get a good enough grade so is the final exam. However if you actually want to learn the topic you'll have to read the book and learn on your own, he is really nice tho
Good professor.
I took an online class and he seems great but he is quite bad with technology and quite difficult to understand as well as his handwriting. There is no attendance grade, only tests and homework, though he drops the lowest test score. Tests are less than 15 questions, all open response.
He's a really good professor and very lenient so as long as you study at least 80% of the class you should pass it with ease
Took calc 2 in hs, got an A+ but got a C. Etcheberry has bad handwriting, thick accent, rude to emails. Some people excel with him. Study guides very similar to exams. Trig identity heavy. Will help you during tests, study sheet and calculators allowed. Homework all due at end of semester. Drops one quiz and test, final optional if have an A.
Very difficult! Notes are unclear and sometimes when explaining problems he'll stop halfway through. He does all his notes on the whiteboard in class, with no online upload, so it's easy to miss material. Test 55%, quizzes 15%, and final exam 20% of grade. He does drop 1 test&quiz grade. I don't recommend unless you understand calc 2 very well.
Dr. Etcheberry is a nice person, but his method of teaching was hands down awful. He says that his tests are "very easy" - and luckily nobody in our class believed him. Get ready to rely on YouTube and Khan Academy. They are the sole reasons why i even PASSED this class. He often makes errors while marking exams.
He interrupts students when they are asking a question, he frequently gets problems wrong but will not go back and do it correctly or at least give the right answer so we can work it out ourselves. He has very bad handwriting which makes it hard to reread. He does not work every problem out fully. Awful teacher.
He's easy if you put in the work. Doesn't lecture well, but YouTube will help. Exams are not too difficult if you understand. He's a very easy grader.
Lecture is not really good
Please just don't take him. It's not worth the mental willpower. He can't use technology, so a majority of my class couldn't even access the WebAssign course to do our homework. Now we have a bunch of assignments due at the end of the semester that we almost have zero time to do.
He also can't write, he also can't talk clearly, he also talks over his students and also talks like we should know everything when we don't. He also makes the test almost entirely different from the review. I end up going in thinking I know everything then he decides to switch it up. For what? For fun????
This professor was overall difficult and I would recommend attempting to switch professors if you're unlucky enough to have this one. He is generally hard to understand in class due to his heavy accent and sloppy handwriting. However even if you can work around this, he is often wrong in his own teachings during lectures so just use the textbook.
Very good Professor, his teaching is very clear. You have to talk very loud otherwise he will not hear but is a very caring Professor in all aspects. I would definitely take a class with him again. He has a thick accent but understandable. Thanks for all your teaching professor Etcheverry.
TERRIBLE at explaining concepts, drops 1 quiz and exam. Makes errors while marking exams, he was a nightmare.
Prof. Etcheberry is too old to teach because he cannot hear the students and does not speak loud enough (he doesn't use a mic either). Nice guy but he grades too harshly and that all hws are due at the very end of semester. He allows to use notes and even phone (wolfram alpha) during tests. But you are not going to learn anything from his class.
Avoid taking this professor. He's very kind but extremely old, with a thick accent, poor handwriting, and frequent mistakes on problems, making lectures impossible to follow. Hardly anyone attends class. The course is manageable due to a formula sheet for tests and being able to use a phone as a calculator, but you're better off self-studying.
The professor is very cute. He is very caring. But, he does not teach very well. Only way I passed that class is because I took CramBetter classes. Their in depth courses are so good that I was completely prepared before the exams even though I never attended classes.
He is very nice but not a great professor. He speaks with a thick accent and has very bad handwriting. He also makes tons of mistakes in his lectures to the point where students have had to go to the board and fix his work for him. The class is also graded with 20% homework and 80% test. There are 5 test and a final.
Best professor I've ever had, such a beautiful way with his lectures, you may not understand his words and he may not understand yours. But his soul is in every torturous question assigned on the exams. Not only is he a beautiful French man, he's also an evil and hilarious one. Would take again for every single class ever.
This professor is underrated, he might be hard to understand at times, but he is very passionate about math and will give you materials that directly correlate to his tests. Tests are short and heavily graded heavy but straightforward. He is just an old man who likes to giggle about math and go home and repeat. He will be a memory kept forever.
He is 87 years old, genuinely deaf and blind, and has a thick french accent. His lectures can be confusing and he won't really answer questions so it helps to study elsewhere. He does have a beautiful way of explaining concepts and cracks lots of jokes. DO THE EXAMPLES IN CLASS AND THE RECOMMENDED PROBLEMS HE GIVES OUT, tests are extremely similar.
Just don't choose him. There is literally no reason to do so. It's 90% based on tests and quizzes, and the score is random as heck. Just save you some mind power and pick another prof that is actually understandable.
He's the worst. He taught you in an accent that is barely understandable and graded the exams extremely harshly (if you had a different answer from the final answer, you basically had no partial credit for that problem). Save yourself and switch to literally any other Calculus course.
Hes old and going deaf and has a thick accent, but he is passionate about math and makes jokes the entire lecture. He doesnt answer questions but his study guide usually has exact questions that will come on the test. If u can get passed the accent, he has a good way of explaining concepts. Harsh grader, wrong answer is almost 0 marks.
