He's a great professor, his lectures are informative and engages the class well enough for everyone to stay awake. He grades homework pretty strictly, but other than that I'd say that I'd take him again :)

Great professor. The class seems too fast and overwhelming at first. There're a lot of materials to cover and you'll realize, it's not really his fault. Also, he may or may not tell you this, but you don't expect to know proofs (it's beyond what you require to know in Cal 2). There are no trick questions in exam. Class getsTough starting @series.

Alain's a great teacher and he tries to have everyone succeed. He's really dedicated to his students, even printing out note packets for those that can't keep up with his fast paced lectures. The material he teaches is hard though and he knows. Went to his office hours almost everyday and managed a B in a class that i thought I was going to drop.

He's a good guy and he's really passionate about math. As someone who struggles with math this was not an easy class but I really appreciated his approach to teaching even though I struggled with it. Calc 2 is just one of those classes you need to put a lot of work into and it won't be different with any other professor.

Mr. Olavarrieta is a good professor. Assigns a lot of homework, because of summer school. Very caring, funny, and just a nice person in general. He can relate to his students very well, and is a pretty good explainer. Would definitely take another class with him, hopefully math 2.

Gave him a 5/5 because his average should be higher like 4.5. The homework can be time-consuming, but his lectures are super super clear and well-explained. Participation matters big time but if you try hard, he will help you a lot. He prints out notes for you to follow along which makes the lectures really clear and makes exams easier to review.

Super accessible and wanted everyone to succeed. He did go fast through lectures, but he would stop to make sure everyone was understanding the material. The homework was online and was reflected in tests and quizzes. He even let us work with groups for some quizzes, and he ended up offering some extra credit to help our grades! 10/10 Recommend!

Professor Olavarrieta is one of my favorite professors, he brought out an academic side of me that I thought I never had by pushing me to excel and helping me every step of my mathematic journey. Overall he challenges his students and hard work is expected!

This teacher is amazing. I took him for Calculus 2, and he was so eager to teach us well. I highly recommend going to his office hours, it helped my grade a lot. Make sure you participate in his exercises and pay attention during lectures.

I took his MATH 2 class over the summer and it was fast paced. He does not compromise with the quality/ material. Must take if you really want to learn MATH 2 concepts.

Honestly the best math teacher I've ever had. He helped me so much to understand ideas, and I did the best I've done in a math class in years. He was very helpful, graded fairly, and throughly explained anything we needed help understanding.

Honestly one of my favorite instructors from Las Positas. He remembers what it was like to be a student and makes sure to answer all of your questions clearly. He also really loves math and it rubs off on you. Exams are tough but he gives study guides. Make sure to participate for points, don't wait till the end like me.

Amazing teacher willing to work with students. He will go above and beyond to help you in class, office hours, and through email. He has fair grading procedures and your final replaces your lowest test grade if it's higher. The class was hard since it was calculus 2 after all, but the tests are fair and you can pass if you do the practice exams.

Professor Olavarrieta is a solid math professor who made Trigonometry doable & not overwhelming. Very clear, thorough lectures. Note packets relate directly to tests. You can take quizzes infinite times & use notes. Negatives: Borderline distracting cheesy jokes and video game references, sometimes gets sidetracked. But you just can't hate the guy

Decent amount of HW. Great lecturer. 70% of grade is based on exams. Generous extra credit (up to 2%) if you work for it. Exams reflect the study guide that he gives. One of the best math professors I've had. He explains things in a way that anyone could learn and understand. He can go a little slow sometimes but that's what some people need. You do need to take notes though and don't skip homework, I got a B for missing homework assignments. Tests (in online class) are with proctorio and zoom.

Calc 2 is tough but he is the best man. Makes you work for it and you actually end up learning a lot. Have an open mindset when going into this, do the work, and you will surely succeed, and go to his OHs when you need help. I wish I could use more tags to describe him ��. Genuinely cares man.

Professor O is probably the best math teacher at Las Positas. You can tell he really enjoys math and tries to impart his enthusiasm onto you. His lectures are usually pretty clear, sometimes he can go a little fast. The are a lot of tests, 3 midterms and 1 final (and one re-take), but they aren't too difficult as long as you do the study guides.

He also explains some of the subtle ideas and applications which can make the subject feel less dry, and give you the feeling that what you are learning is useful. Very supportive of students and has cohesive lectures that prepare you well for tests.

I took his MATH 2 class online during the Fall 2021 semester. Professor O is a tough grader, but his lectures are excellent as he has guided notes on Canvas. Make sure to do the problems on his study guides before exams, they are great practice. Feel free to ask him questions. If you can keep up with the homework, you will succeed in his class.

This professor is very good at teaching Calculus and knows the subject very well. The lectures are very informative and easy to follow along with. There is no need to be surprised for what is on Exams because it made very obvious what to study for. If he says something is important, it 100% is going to be and you should keep your eyes on it.

Trig can be a weird subject and Prof. O makes it easy to understand. Is willing to work with you to the very end. Truly wants you to understand the material. Do the homework, ask questions, and put in the work. You will have no problem passing the class.

Sometimes he doesn't have time to get to all kids at the office hours, but most kids have the same questions. Just remember to start a formula list in the beginning because they start to pile up!

Mr. O is the best math teacher I've taken at laspo. He cares so much and explains trig stuff in ways that are easy to understand. He makes sure to do similar problems a few times on lectures, to make sure everyone's got the hang of it. Exam questions aren't any different than normal HW questions. Mr. O is the first teacher I've had for math where things make sense. He doesn't use a textbook for the trig class and instead prints out (and puts PDF on Canvas) guided lecture notes for his planned lectures. This was the first math class I really felt like I understood what was going on just from attending the lectures and doing the homework. Great professor willing to help you out when you need it. Gives out extra credit so make sure to do it, it can be the difference between a C+ or a B-. His study guides and lectures are similar to the exams, so make sure to do them. His exams are still very hard, but with practice you can greatly improve, especially if you go to his office hours.

He does his best to make sure his class is on the same page and understands what they are learning. He even stays on campus longer just to help students. I've had Mr. O for Math 2 and Math 5 and he's still the best choice. He organizes the lecture material into packets for everyone (or PDFs for tablet notetakers) and makes study guides for exams. His only flaw is that he may rush through lectures if he's behind schedule. Otherwise, he has +1 million aura. He is dedicated to helping students learn.

Great professor. Fun lectures & he has a great sense of humor. Keeps the whole class engaged. Very clear on grading. 89.99% after EC will still be a B. Don't worry too much about HW. Do the study guide 3 times. EC up to 2%. Finish all hws within 3 days they're assigned. Do all this & it's impossible not to get an A. Don't even try to cheat.

He should be your number one option because he keeps the class interesting and you leave every class understanding the material. Also has office hours everyday and will help you with ANYTHING!

Amazing teacher, he made doing calculus bearable and I only managed that fine for that long because of him. Unfortunately, the final is worth like 30% of your grade. I maintained a B the entire sem, but I was crashing out near the end and ended up with a C for the final, making my efforts all sem all for naught. You'd pass submitting only the hmwk.

If you struggle with math, TAKE PROFESSOR O. I used to hate math until I began taking him for all of my math classes, and suddenly I am a math expert. He wants you to pass. Will gladly explain anything to you. DO YOUR HW TO PASS. He likes to crack jokes in class too. Best math professor I have ever had and I'd take him for all my classes tbh.

Best professor ever. Math 7 is just a hard class in general but Mr.O does his best to dumb it down. The concepts are taught immaculately and he's just an inspirational, caring guy overall. His office hours help a lot! If I went to all of them, I feel like I would've been way more confident, but from the ones I did go to, I got that feeling.

Attendance is necessary, good lecturer. Gives out practice problems that are basically the test. His tests all have ten problems, and usually contains 10% extra credit. His final is worth 35% so if you fail a midterm you can still get an A. Grading on tests are extremely fair, and he makes a point to be as unbiased as possible when grading.

He was amazing. I learned a lot in his class and I really enjoyed it. He went in depth with the material and it wasn't hard to follow. He had 27 homework assignments, 6 labs, 3 exams, and a final. The labs used Matlab. Proofs were optional extra credit on exams. He had frequent office hours.

Great professor overall! Took his time to explain concepts and really cares about students. However, all classes are extremely test heavy. Like 80% and above. Replaces the lowest test score with highest instead of dropping it. Office hours are very crowded and your lucky to get a question in if you go. Also tends to rush later topics cause of time.

We are so blessed to have a professor like this at LPC, Professor O makes sure you work hard in his class so that the material sticks with you and he cares about your future. His courses prepare you for transfer and he never leaves class or office hours until he ensures EVERY student understands the material. I can not recommend a better teacher!

Great teaching style, show up for the lectures. There is a lot of homework, do all of it and the exams won't be too bad. Exceptionally fair grader, showing understanding of the processes and concepts wins you merit on the exams (it's easy to get partial credit on questions despite making arrhythmic mistakes).

I took the honors version of this class. He expected the honors students to memorize more formulas and derivations, which at sometimes seemed unfair, given the time constraints of the tests. At the beginning of the semester, his grading was fair, but as time went on, he became more strict with grading, which I'm not sure was intentional or not.

One of the most accommodating professors you'll ever meet. If your commited to the material, he's committed to help you out. As long as you put in the work, you'll get rewarded.

If you think you're bad at math, take professor O and watch how you will start to do better. I've taken his trig and calc 1 class as well, and I wouldn't trade him for another professor. Participation matters, and slacking off in this class can set you far back. He is willing to help you out whenever you're having a hard time, so take his class!

Not as hard a class/professor as I thought. 4 exams, 1 final, HW for every topic, + 2% total of EC. Attend lecture, do the HW, and follow his study guides and you'll be fine for the exams. Lowest exam score replaced by final if score is higher. Lectures are a bit slow + can be stubborn about details. Overall 8/10 would take again.

GOATED prof fr. If you don't like MR.O, I don't know who you would like as a prof. He explains his lectures and concepts so well and actually cares about his students. And don't get me started on how enthusiastic he is, you can tell he genuinely cares, and isn't just there to be there cause it's his profession. Study guides are so good.

Lectures are recorded and uploaded which are very helpful but you should still attend lectures in order to succeed. 20% of grade is HW, 2% extra credit, Lowest test score replaced with final if higher- can always improve grades at any time!
