She is a wonderful teacher. She helps you out the best she can. She is a fun teacher and interacts with her students unlike some teachers.
She's pretty cool. bubbly and easily distracted but work gets done. she knows her stuff and is really nice.
She's a great teacher. She's up beat and keeps your attention especially at 8 in the morning, but she isn't so hard that you can't handle the load. I would take her again in a heartbeat!
Great Teacher. Easily distracted so you get little done. She helps you extend your essays tremendously. Easy A or B. I recommend this class to anyone.
she is an awesome teacher. i had her at 8 in the morning and she will wake you up!! She is so bubbly and sweet....she loves to tell stories and she is super smart. By far my favorite teacher a UNA. You should totally get her class
I really liked her. I can actually write a paper and feel comfortable when I turn it in. I recommend her for anyone who hates English. I promise she will make it exciting.
She's SO fun and entertaining. You WANT to hear the Booger and Poo lecture! Shes a drama queen so if loud and obnoxious is not your thing, Beware! The class was overall easy, but you do have to DO the work. She takes attendence grades unannounced so GO TO CLASS
Great professor my favorite class at UNA so far. I hated English until i took her class. I was devastated when i could not get her for 112. Her class booked up after one minute of opening. She has a bubbly personality, never a dull moment with her.
She is awsome! I loved this class. She takes attendance grades so go to class. Do the work or she will dismiss you and you have to appoligize before she lets you back in. She has her on method of writing that really helped me. She is the only professor that knows my name and about me! She is really involved with her students and their lives!
Amazing. i cant wait to have her again!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hated her use of internet to contact students before class. Kind of irresponsible and changed things at the last minute and caused one to a lower grade than what most of the students deserved. And kicked all but five out of her class because she wasn't clear on an assignment.
She is a very good teacher and easy-going person. she is the most beautiful teacher I have ever taken.
I love this class. She loves to talk about fashion and her life. She's extremely helpful and she likes to get to know her students. I would definitely recommend her class to anyone.
she was an awesome teacher! If you go to her office and talk to her you will do awesome in her class! Best teacher ive ever had!
She's hot nut hard though
I absolutely loved her! The one-on-one conferences were very helpful because she told you how to make it better, but also told you what she liked about your writing. She takes interest in her students and wants them to do well. Very interesting, I definitely recommend her!
Love her. She's hysterical. She takes student life and applies it to academics. I don't feel intimidated by her class. She says when youlaugh you remember what you learn. So far so good!
I honestly looked forward to going to her class. How many college students can say that? She took the time to know my name and to know me. Actually learned something.
She's awesome!!!!!!
Awesome teacher! So much enthusiasm for teaching, and we never had a boring class. ALWAYS go to her personally if you are struggling she is MORE than willing to help, and she takes note about who really cares about their grades. Loved her! Wish I could take her again!
Love ms patterson!! So sweet and helpful. I hated english until I had her and she really teaches you how to write. Take her if you get the chance!
Take her for ENG 111 and ENG 112
She is AWESOME!!! Very HOT! I hate English but she made it fun and I passed with A's.
She is super sweet and makes class more interesting. She is worth going out of your way to take her!
Ms. Shockley is a great teacher. She basically tells you everything that will be on the tests and quizzes. Coming to class is very important and she will occasionally reward for attendance. Took her my freshman and sophomore year; would highly recommend
Best teacher I have ever had. She works with her students and is VERY helpful. She makes english class fun and enjoyable. She also made class so easy. I would not recommend any other teacher but her!!
She is extremely sweet, and tells you just about everything you need to know for test and quizzes. The only down side is that she takes an attendance grade, and in class she gets extremely off subject. However, she is really funny and makes literature interesting and fun.
Mrs. Patterson is probably the most influential teacher I've ever had. The passion she has for teaching and the desire for her students to be great scholars is what makes her stand out. She is chill and has many stories to tell with sound effects, but she is very strict about her teaching. Inspired me to major in Secondary Education.
First of all, she goes by Ms. Patterson now. Second, you do write a lot of papers in this class, and she is a tough grader. However, she gives amazing feedback and lets you know what you're good at and what you could us more work on.
"Mrs. Shockley" goes by Mrs. Patterson. She's a great teacher and is really involved with her students. Her feedback is really helpful when you're trying to figure out what she wants. Overall, she's a tough grader but I would definitely take her again!
This teacher is amazing. She uses all kinds of songs, videos, actorssingers to make the literature understandable. I've never had a teacher care about me in the classroom and outside the classroom so much. She does not mind sharing real life examples to teach, encourage, and support us. Entire class was into her lectures. Best class so far.
She's a great professor but be aware that her class is hard! I'm an amazing writer and she said several times I deserved an A but I ended up with a B in the class.
I had an extremely easy time in this class. I typically can't stand lit courses but was fortunately able to bear this one. This was mostly because Ms. Shockley is a very energetic teacher that involves the students and makes boring subjects semi-interesting. She assigns readings with quizzes and the test are from the quizzes. Easy as that.
She is a good teacher and I love that she is willing to help. Whenever I'd email her she would reply in less than ten minutes. She's down to earth and is very understanding. Overall, she is a good teacher and you learn how to write good papers.
Ms. Patterson is by far the best teacher I've ever had. She is very enthusiastic about the class and loves to see involvement from the students. She will be there for you for absolutely anything, and wants to see everyone improve. With that being said, her grading is a little tough, but not at all unfair.
Ms. Patterson is a fantastic professor! She's super funny and always makes class something to look forward to. She ensures her students understanding of the material and does everything she can to help you get through the class. Her office door is always open even if you need just 5 minutes to vent.
Good teacher but extremely difficult grader. If you are an English major or a really great writer then yes. If not, might want to avoid.
Mrs. Reid is the bomb. I didn't like her class in the beginning due to a harsh grade but after that it all went up. She's hilarious, will sing and dance. She utilizes stories and videos to help you learn and remember. Her papers are very difficult but if you have a knack for writing then you'll be fine. Papers are challenging, but don't stress it.
She is amazing. She really cares about her students and you will learn so much. Her class is the only english/literature class I have learned anything from. She does grade pretty tough but there are so many assignments you can pull your grade back up. I still go to her for help and she's always happy to help.
Really depends on what you like from a professor. Took her for two semesters, and even still I'm not completely sure what my opinion is. So here are the facts: lots of quizzes, lectures filled with life stories, and a few essays. Not too tough on essays. Does care for students, but sometimes focuses too much on jokes and entertainment than the lit.
Gives little feedback on essays. Sometimes gives no feedback whatsoever, so you have no idea what you did wrong. Rubrics are broad with lots of room for inconsistent grading. Quizzes will ask for obscure details. Learned more about her personal life than the literature itself. In class she is fine, but her online grading leaves much to be desired.
Hard grader but gives you answers and what she wants on a lot. 2 assignments a week the most of the time and is helpful on getting better as a writer.
Grades very difficult. Sometimes can be hard to deal with but she really cares about the material.
She expects a lot but she will help with anything if you go to her office. She has already helped me improve my writing. She cares a lot about her students and helping them with what they need. I'll be taking her again.
Mrs. Reid is a great teacher. She is exciting and loves to teach. Be involved in class and you won't be disappointed. All essays are very clear and concise as to what is expected.
Only class I looked forward to. She definitely cares about her students more than anything. Her class helped me improve my writing for my History and Criminal Justice class. I'll be taking her class again.
She was amazing . Tough grader but time flies by fast when your in her class. Best English teacher ever
Amazing teacher. Very caring and does lots to help students fully understand what she teaches. 12/10 recommend.
I took EN 212 with Mrs. Reid last spring. I'm not a lit major, but I bought a book of poetry because I liked her class so much. She makes lit way more interesting than I've ever had before. She also helped me write for an application to a graduate program when I wasn't in her class anymore. She cares even after you take her class.
Mrs. Reid is a fantastic instructor. Very clear assignments, everything is spelled out to a T what she wants in each paper. If you get a poor grade, it is most likely because you did not read the instructions. Lectures are interactive and she is very friendly.
Mrs. Reid is a great professor! She gives very detailed instructions and will go out of her way to help you. She's awesome at responding to emails and has an open-door policy even when you aren't taking her class anymore. The only reason why I wouldn't take her again is that she is a very hard grader.
Mrs. Reid is wonderful at her job! She is so funny and caring. She can be a difficult grader but she is willing to work with her students and make herself available whenever they may need help.
one of the best teachers I've ever had. She cares so much about her students and loves her job as much as her own family. She makes you work for the grade but she'll tell you anything you need to know for assignments and set up appointments to talk to you personally about improvement. TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Best professor I have ever had. She really cares about her students and their success. She is absolutely hilarious and an amazing professor. If I could take her course again, I would.
I currently had to take the class online and it was awful. Shes a very TOUGH grader who will count anything wrong. Lots of quizzes/discussion posts that require a very detailed explanation. I definitely would not take her again.
Mrs. Reid is an amazing professor! Can be picky and tough on grading, but wont give you bad marks for something random or unexplained. She gives very detailed feedback and genuinely cares about improving her students ability to read and write. Her courses involve regularly assigned reading, essays, and heavy analysis. Overall, excellent teacher.
This teacher gives SO much work. You would think with the amount of work she gives she would be lenient with grades, but she is the absolute opposite. Basically we have an at least three page paper due twice a week. Imagine writing a 3 page paper only to get a 1 out of 10 bc she didn't like it when you answer every question asked.
legit the hardest class ive taken at una. multiple essays and quizzes due each week, very tough grader. on canvas it says the class average for assignments and the highest average for a discussion response was a 57. ended up dropping the class bc i couldnt get a passing grade on anything, definitely wouldnt recommend
One of the hardest and most complicated professors Ive had at UNA. Everyone told me to take her class, but I have started to regret it. Her grading makes it almost impossible to pass her class. You constantly have essays that are really papers due at least twice a week. 1/10 do not recommend.
I LOVE Mrs. Reid! This is my second class with her and I would recommend her to anyone. While she does assign a hefty amount of work she is understandable and works with her students. As long as you go to class and do the readings, you will easily pass. She is also very funny and makes the class very entertaining. Definitely my favorite professor!
She does give you a lot of assignments to complete, but she is very specific and tells you what she expects. If you ever have a question on an assignment, she always gets back to you quickly. I found her to be very helpful and she gives you good feedback in order to improve in your writing. I would take another one of her classes again!
Professor Reid is a very great teacher. Unfortunately she grades entirely too hard. You have around two essays due each week and she will give you a 0 if you dont put specific information in there that she wants. I would not take her class again.
She is a good teacher and she answers questions quickly; however, this class was very stressful. She gives a lot of work. Two essays a week plus a quiz sometimes. Maybe the in-person class was better but the online version is nothing like a regular online class. She is a tough grader and is very particular. Really have to work for a good grade.
She's great and lots of fun!
Took her for EN111. I hate english, but her class is still very enjoyable and not terribly hard.
She is pretty, funny, gives feedback, and teaches you very well. I would take her again if I could.
Too many homework to do
So so so so so many writing assignments. She is a very kind woman and gives grace when you communicate with her but she assigns a lot of work.
I LOVED Professor Reid for EN111. She made the class easy and very enjoyable. She is so down to earth and is willing to help any student. She wants all of her students to be able to succeed. She makes it clear that if any help is needed for anything, not strictly english/this class, she is so willing to help.
Reid wasn't my favorite, but she wasn't bad. Her coursework is very heavy, especially online. We did a lot of reading every week from the textbook and had multiple quizzes, discussion boards, and reading responses due at the end of every week. She's not very good at keeping up with grading, either.
She did not grade anything for months, and when she did, she would put in random grades without explanation.
I took her class online. Very simple, just not the best at teaching. Materials are very easy though, just read the assigned reading and you'll be fine.
She seemed to have no interest in helping students at all. I've tried to reach out for help during the semester, however, not a single response to my email. Also, she would divide one essay assignment into several stages, so there were always a lot of assignments and a lot of paper work.
Professor Reid truly cares about her students. She communicated well and gave good feedback on homework. All reading material was free. She offered study guides for the exams. She asked for feedback to improve on exams which is unheard of from professors.
Mrs. Reid is awful for online, I was forced into her class because the in-person teacher backed out. I've been waiting for a paper to be graded for 2 and a half weeks now. She hasn't sent out any information other than the same "helpful tips" email every 2 weeks with the same basic info on it.
She is such a sweet lady! She truly cares and explains things very well. She is always willing to help. You may have two quizzes a week but they don't take very long. She doesn't grade tough. She asked for feedback on her exam this semester which I thought was unheard of and very thoughtful. Take her!
Very horrible online, way too tough on grading. And also tracks grammarly as Ai. The essay is split into too many assignments. DO NOT RECCOMEND
Just do not take her. She probably writes her own reviews, genuinely awful.
Do NOT take at all costs. I do not know where she got these good reviews from. She brags about failing PhD students and appears to be a bad person overall. For your own sake, avoid this professor.
Cares about her students so much. She has kind of an intimidating personality but once you get used to her she is great. Some assignments are kind of hard but if you express your confusion, she will walk you through it step by step. Attendance mandatory. Flexible on due dates.
She really cares for her students. She is always willing to help if you have questions or problems. Her essays are not too challenging, and her grading is average. Would recommend.
Professor Reid is not clear on feedback, so that grades can be improved on future assignments. Do not recommend.
She is super sweet and understanding. She worked with me when I fell behind in class. She does grade kinda harshly,, but if you follow the rubric closely it isn't too bad. She gives a ton of assignments, tho.
She had migraines for around 3/4 of the semester. The semester started off fine, she was grading regularly, then her migraines worsened. So since she wasn't giving feedback, then I couldn't make corrections and my grades dropped. It took her over two months to grade most of my assignments. Wouldn't recommend.
I had this professor for 112 and knew immediately if I had to take another English course it would have to be with her. She is very fun, kind, understanding as well great instructor who can keep a classroom actively engaged. She has clear instructions and expectations. To be honest show up and try your best you will be successful. Highly recommend!
