Abelson loves math! It's fun to watch him. If you go to lecture you should do well. Mastery tests are the easiest 25% to get ever and if you do all the assigned problems you will get above 80 in this course.

An excellent prof. Had an amazing grasp on the course material and was completely fair. Presented information in a logical, concise manner and encouraged class interaction. He made no assumptions as to what we knew, which often helped to refresh us on material. Other professors should watch his lectures to help with their teaching methods.

Prof. Abelson is the most enthusiastic, kind-spirited, genuine, and passionate prof I've had. He is brilliant, 100% clear, and willing to help anyone who needs it. He also goes out of his way to make sure that this course meets the needs of all students (i.e. custom-ordered textbooks, quick e-mail reply, personally leading a tutorial, etc.).

One of my favourite profs in second year. Super helpful on the project too. I don't know how I would have survived the roller coaster without his help. He was always willing to help even if it wasn't his office hours. I don't understand why people seem to hate him.

I think Alan Ableson is one of the best professors at Queen's. I found him to be articulate, friendly and very helpful. He is a phenomenal educator. Work hard, do the practice problems, ask questions and you'll do well in his class.

ableson is a great prof. he is so enthusiastic and genuinely loves to teach. his examples are clear and he is always happy to help outside of class. ableson is also hilarious...hes always walking into projectors or tripping over cables. his grading is fair in the way that he allows many opportunities to make up for a bad grade.

His tests are extremely easy. With that said, they are identical to homework questions, so make sure you do EVERY SINGLE QUESTION. Exam was on the harder side but I would still say it's fair since you would be fine if you did all the hw questions. He is also very willing to help you with any questions you have and one last tip: never miss class!!

Ableson was not my professor but I regularly attended his lectures instead. Enthusiastic teacher, you'll see what I mean, and very helpful. Lectures are clear and keep you interested. I would fall asleep in my actual lecture. Ableson has enough enthusiasm for the entire room.

Best prof I've had at Queen's so far. EXTREMELY enthusiastic about teaching and very clear in all of his lectures. His office hours were always so helpful, he makes a solid effort to get to know his students. Tests are easy, the exam is much more challenging so be prepared for that. Do all the homework he assigns and you'll do great! He's awesome.

Great professor! Explained everything very clearly. I admit I hardly did any homework and just watched his lectures, but I still ended up with an A+. Though the exam was a little tricky. But I give credit to his really clear explanations, it was easy to get the concepts because of his lectures.

Second time with Ableson, I love this guy! Great prof, really clear and he's always around if you need help. One weekend he spent a whole day in the lab with students in our class helping us with our projects. Some people find this class hard but if you keep up with the assignments and lectures, you'll do really well! :)

Like being taught by a very skinny, very happy Jim Carry. 10/10 would be taught again.

You never have to attend any of his classes because he uses video lectures. Tests and exams are fair and it is easy to get high marks if you study even just the night before the test.

He was by far the best prof I had in first year. I hated calculus in high school, and didn't mind it at all in his class. He is so passionate you can't help but like it too. Fair tests. He cares about his students and has a good sense of humour. I once woke up at 8:25 for an 8:30 and ran to west campus in the snow so I could go to his lecture.

AMAZING guy. I looked forward to his lectures, he genuinely likes the subject and he always sounds like he's on the verge of laughing. He explains the course material very clearly, but there is a lot of material and, I found it went too quickly. But, the LDIs were very helpful and he's accessible outside of class. He's a real gem.

Alan is an excellent prof. He brings his cheerleader attitude into the lecture. His lectures were the ones where I actually wanted to pay attention to. His tests were very fair and most of the questions were very similar to the homework. But as good as he is, BEWARE OF THE EXAMS!!! His exams are very unfair and class averages sit in the 50s.

He clearly cares about teaching and puts effort into his course materials. Sitting through classes wasn't much of a chore for me, which is rare.

Did a great job for what I believe was his first time with the course - I liked when he connected the work we were doing with practical/scientific uses.

So Ableson wasn't really my prof, but instead of using a textbook we had video lectures to watch that he had recorded. I WISH he had taught my class. People in my class chose to go to west campus for his lectures instead of ours, which was on main.

Alan is literally the best! cannot go wrong with him.

During the covid-19 pandemic, many changes had to be made when it came to education. Specifically, teachers had to change their ways of teaching. Alan Ableson is by far the best overall teacher this year. Understanding, but will put his foot down when appropriate, clear grading system, and does appropriate changes when needed. Creates the most satisfying lecture videos I've ever watched and makes calculus very interesting. Makes it very clear why you are studying what you are and how it is useful in the world. His TA's mark tests quite gracefully if you get what is going on but make minor errors and will most likely reward part marks for incompleted q's even. 10/10 Prof

Best Prof you could ever ask for. If 3Blue1Brown was a university math prof. he knows his stuff and teaches it in the best way possible. super clear, and you tell he loves teaching. Absolutely incredible.

Professor Ableson is probably one of the best professors you could have for a Calculus course. His online lectures are clear and just as good as in person lectures, and his midterms & exams are very fair. His enthusiasm alone is enough to make any subject interesting. This is clearly a man who loves his job and it shows.

Professor Ableson is a very kind and caring professor who is clearly very passionate about what he teaches. I personally really enjoyed being in his class because his passion really allowed me to feel passionate about learning calculus. His online videos are also very helpful.

Having Ableson was an interesting experience. I couldn't tell if I was taking a cooking course or learning about math. The amount of times he refers to stuff as "slices" or "flavours" or "ingredients" made me lose all of the previous passion I had for cooking by plaguing it with my very negative MATH 121 experience. Great professor, bad course.

I would give this man the entire world if i could. he is honestly the bob ross of math i have never had a great math teacher in my life but ableson changed that for me. this course would be in shambles if it wasnt for him and his recorded videos.

Prof. Ableson was always welcoming in his office hours and always explained stuff to a great extent compared to his lectures, if you are really struggling its best to meet him in private to grasp any topic.

The best prof at Queens. Always explains concepts very clearly and goes through many practice problems in class. Extremely friendly person and always happy to help students after class and during office hours. Very passionate about what he teaches and clearly enjoys teaching students very much. Wish he could teach all math courses at Queens.

Great prof, makes himself extremely accessible outside of class. Gives people a great understanding of the topic at hand without making anyone feel lost. Is able to answer any question with a quick, concise, yet very easy to grasp. GOAT of a prof, thank you Ableson :)
