Professor Bass is a great professor if you really want to know math well he assigns lots of homework but his grading is fair if you are a slacker don't take his class if you are a math major do
Way too much homework. Tests are long. Tough grader. Lectures on theory and proofs mainly. No feedback besides tests. Doesn't review any questions after tests unless asked.
Too much homework.
Professor Bass is a good teacher, however a lot of times he rambles on in class about things that are not even about the chapter. He has tough tests, and has a very different way of grading. However he is a nice guy.
great teacher
Professor Bass is one of the hardest math teachers I have ever had. He grades very unfair. If you do not have a 60% or above on your exams he will not pass you, even if you have a B in the class. His tests are very hard. Does not explain, rambles on.
very nice and heplful
Hard teacher, tests are hard, believe me, DO NOT Take him!!!
Seems to get irritated when asked questions. Knows his major well, known to have powertrips.
Mr. Bass is a nice teacher, he expects a lot, you have to be able to follow and do the work. He is hard at times and the exams can be rough, but he lets you know what to expect. Take him if math comes easy for you, if not, this is not the class for you.
Good teacher...stats is difficult but if you do the homework and show up for class you will do good.if you miss class you will probably get lost and not be able to catch up. DO THE HOMEWORK!!!
Really nice, really helpful. The exams are pretty easy. Maybe a bit too much homework, but then doing homework is the only way to learn and practice. So, do your work and you will find the exams easy. I recommand him.
****IN TAKE HIM
prof bass is a great guy,he realy teaches u how to do a math without any horm. I'm not realy good at math but after I took this class I felt that I learned something, JUST DO THE HOMEWORK and u be fine . TAKE THE CLASS SERIUSLY.
This class is not an easy A, but if you put in the effort, you can easily pass. He gives and collects homework, but overall, a good teacher that is open and willing to questions and clarification.
Don't take him. Has power trips and grades unfairly. You must have a C avarage on tests to pass. Even if you are getting a B in the class and D avarage on the tests, you will not pass. Lots of quizzes and homework too. Try professor Prim! He rocks!
he is an energetic math teacher which is very hard to find. his personality makes the class go by very fast. although he is a pretty good teacher, he doesn't go over individual topics enough, and i did need a tutor on top of him.
Too much homework.
i hated him he gave a butt load of homework which i got 100% on everytime but you have to get a c average on the test to pass the class, and he makes the test harder then the homework, so it is not what you are practicing everyday.
I hate math to the fulliest extent. This was the 2nd time I took math 96. But I have to admit that Mr.Bass was one of the better math teachers I've taken at Mesa. I struggled a lot but ended up with a B. He's AWESOME teacher, he really does try to help out his students and not make you feel stupid.
Always throws in a bit of humor. Like things organized... pushes students to prepare for REAL university environment.
Do NOT take this class!!! Bass was the WORST math teacher I have every had. He is overly energetic and unclear in his lectures. His tests are very hard and offers you very little help. He says that he gives partial points on test problems... but he doesn't. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
he forces you to turn in homework packets so you can't blow off doing h.w. but it also helps out cuz u have to practice the problems over and over again. it also helps your grade if youre not doing so hot on the tests. i got mostly C's on the tests but did all the h.w. I ended up with a B. I recomme
The class was a bit hard but the class was great. Learned a lot and enjoy being there. Take this class if you want to learn and work hard. Looking for a easy way out DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. HAHAHA
Requires a notebook to turn in before every test, but is helpful in the long run. Very smart and he is very helpful. Wants you to pass and he is very funny too. I would recommend him if you were re-taking Math 95 or you first course in Math 95. He perpares you for 96, without a doubt.
Excellent Teacher. Very Intelligent and helpful. If you struggle in math I highly suggest taking him. Very clear and I learned a lot.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
good clear, smart teacher. no notebook was required in this class. good group wk helps out with concepts. if you are dreding stats take this teacher hes really nice and likes to help
Great professor. Lots of enthusiasm and knows his stuff. Willing to stop and make sure everyone gets it if there's ever any confusion. Makes a tedious subject matter actually seem interesting. First few tests are very hard, but they get easier as you go. I'd definitely take him again.
THIS PROFESSOR IS WHAT ALL "MATH" PROFESSORS SHOULD BE LIKE.HE KNOWS HIS MATERIAL SO WELL & IS IS EXTREMLY HELPFUL & HE REALLY REALLY CARES FOR HIS STUDENTS. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM & DON'T UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL YOU CAN GUARANTEE HE WILL BE MORE THAN GLAD TO HELP YOU. I RECOMMEND EVERYONE TO TAKE MATH WITH THIS TEACHER.
I took his classes & got A's in both, he really is a great teacher. And I am by no way a lover of math. You have to work for your grade, but you should expect that if you aren't brillant at math. He has a great teaching style and is NOT monotone which really helps, and if you are having problems just ask after class and he is totally helpful.
great teacher i ever had although he proceeded to fill his shoes full of chocolate during class for 3 days in a row but speak nothing of it? voodoo? ...maybe
No Comments
good personality and is willing to help. however if you're bad at math you'll still struggle on his tests. he's a bit too laid back for me. take if you're good at math. go in during his office hours for help.
very hard, you will need to be good at math to get a B or better, he is always available in his office but he seems to give up on you easily when you don't get right away. I got a B but had to work my tail off. he was nice on the final and allowed a notecard. good luck.
Bass is cool, but makes mistakes when grades tests, you have to pay attention to your tests. He is young tho, so he can improve on it. Mesa should probably get more people just like him. I dont like old teachers. Bass sets the cool bar high :)
I came everyday and did all my HW, He acts like he is too good to help you. I had to correct him on about 10 mistakes on my test, he sucks in my opinion, dont take him if you want to learn in a comfortable environment.
Funny, but also "down to business". Great at lecturing and answering questions. Makes math fun!
good teacher and very clear on his teaching.
He was ok. Not the easiest, tho. His quizzes come directly from the hw. Each problem is worth 20 pts and he does not give partial credit on the quizzes. Its all or nothing. His tests were sort of similar to the chapter tests in the book, it seems like he changes the problem to make it more complex.
He' better than some math professors Ive had before. His lectures are interesting, he goes at a nice pace. He allows a calculator on tests. He says his tests are similar to the chapter tests in the book, but the actual exam is much harder.
Great teacher! I took him for math 95,96 & 141. I really liked the way he taught the courses. He gives group work, fair tests and wouldn't mind helping you out at all. I would definitely take him again if he were to teach higher math courses!!!
Great communication. Was able to explain things in a few different ways, which is invaluable for math. I wish I had him for 96!
Hands down, one of the best math professors ever!! For anyone who struggles learning math, this is the professor to take. He explains very clearly and does his best to make sure you understand. He won't hold your hand though. You must be motivated. But he is very willing to work with people who want to learn.
This is coming from someone who is horrible at math, Alan Bass is the best teacher i have had in my whole life. He can be a cocky **** but thats just his sense of humor, as long as you show him that you care about learning he will respect you and help you, he was a dick at first but became a cool ass dude once i started talking to him, TAKE HIM!
He was ok. I just wished he reviewed a little more for each test.
This professor was ridiculous. He talked to us like children while in class and then tested us on stuff we had to learn ON OUR OWN out of the book. He general appears like students are an "inconvenience."
Hardest C ever! He came to class unorganized and seemed to have only skimmed the chapters before teaching them. Unannounced quizzes at least once a week, sometimes twice and they start at the start of class. Only 3 tests, which are half your grade. I only passed because I have a calculus whiz for husband and even he didn't like this guys style.
Excellent Professor with a good sense of humor. Doesnt like taking attendance and keeps lectures real and clear.
i find it hard to believe prof bass didn't rate higher. he is an outstanding teacher. i learned so much from him. he explained things very well, and sometimes took too much time trying to help people understand. i highly recommend him. an awesome instructor.
very energitic and very clear. tests are hard. loves questions, but very impatent with people who talk in class, which i like but it was kind of ackward. cute!
Mr Bass is hard but fair. Keeps Math interesting with his funny stories and ways of describing terms that a student can relate to. Don't expect a coast in this class but if you want to learn Math and get it-go with him.
Never liked math but he explains it clear so you can understand.
GREAT TEACHER!!! Explains clearly! Energetic! He deserves a red hot chillie pepper next to his name. Read the chapters, do your homework...easy A. Test are not muti. choice..u have to do the work but if you did your homework this will not be a problem. Wish we had more teachers like him!!
awesome teacher! very helpful, not too hard, entertaining and fun. lots of group work, notes every day and not too much homework. Take him if you actually want to learn!! He wrote the book on algebra (literally)
i was terrified of math so i put it off till i was forced to take it. TAKE HIS CLASS! bass genuinely loves his job/students and it shows in how he teaches. he dissects the crap out of the problems and gives PLENTY of time to ask questions. we have group work if by some chance he wasnt clear so its the fastest 2 and a half hours ever. he is the teac
He is an incredibly helpful teacher. He explains the concepts in a manner in which it makes since. I have struggled in past math classes, but he made it interesting, and he made sure that every student who attended class was up to speed on the concepts.
What a ego! I am surprised he can get thru the door with a ego that size. He knows the subject but is incredibly arrogant. He talks down to people just because they ask a question.
He loves math and makes his classes very interesting while learning.
Alan Bass has a very nice personality, but he is NO longer interested in teaching! He is more interested in administrating class and math materials. All what we did at class is group work why do I need hem if I have to learn from my classmates! Going for tutoring is better than going to his class! HE is useless in the class! Sorry Alan
Mr. Bass Rocks!!! He reminds me of Steve Irwin, but in a mathmatical setting. He tries to make math fun and is very helpful. I liked working with MathXL, I was able to pace myself with HW to when I could do it. Only thing I didn't like was GW. If you didn't understand the lesson, we still did ppwork to turn in that was "Group Work"
Great teacher... I hate math, but he makes it interesting. He getd really in depth in each class, so you can't miss a class or at least get someone's notes. He uses MathXL. It's kinda helpful, but he does less examples in class bc of it. He def has high energy, but very laid back personality at the same time. It's hard not to enjoy his class!!!
Why can't he teach all math classes? He's funny and entertaining..lol. The class is challenging, unless you love math. Hardly any use of the text book, bc of MathXL. I loved using MathXL. Very easy to use.
I thought he was a great prof, but i thought his group works were useless. I loved going to class and never missed it except for one. his final and tests are really hard. Take him if you want a diferent experience in math. He uses Math XL which had helped me in ways in math like never before. even though i recieved a d in his class after all the h.
He is a really good teacher. He goes through the material with clarity and likes to help his students. The only bad thing about the class is the love hate relationship with Math XL. its a great learning tool but has strict deadlines, its problems are also harder than those on the test. The group work is useless also and tests are always two pages.
Mr. Bass is a great professor if you are willing to put in the time to learn. You will need to study a lot and maybe even go to his office hour tutoring in order to get a good grade. His lectures are a bit confusing but his office hours are there for you if you are not particularly good at math. He is a very helpful guy.
He is a good teacher, clear and helpful. He kind of moves fast so you need to pay attention and keep up. He is always available during office hours to help. If you have trouble with math, Bass is the guy to take. The passing rate in his class is much higher then everyone else.
It was his first time teaching Math 43. We had 23 people in the class and 21 people passed so I assume that he is a good teacher.
Bass is a good teacher, his lectures are note taking then he gives examples for you to try. His hw consists of Math Xl which is really easy/useful. Dont need a textbook. Tests are hard at times but don't be lazy and stuff and you'll be fine. Down to earth guy!
Not helpful at all !
Uses Math XL which is convenient but it is easy to become dependent on the "show me how" button. Math sucks but if you have to take it, Bass is a good teacher.
He is an OK professor certainly not the best or the worst. He goes really fast and then there is a lot of pressure during tests and when he walks around the class because I always felt he was just looking at me and I dunno that bugs me esp. because more than half the time I was just totally lost... he was somewhat helpful in office hours.
This class was fast paced and challenging. HW was not graded, but you NEED to know all the material to do good on the tests. Luckily, Prof Bass loves math, and he's excellent at explaining the material in terms that anyone, math-brained or not, would understand. Overall, a great professor who I would recommend to anyone who actually wants to learn.
Liked him and am wanting to take him again for math 46 and beyond as needed. Other students are entitled to their comments although I find his teaching style effective and BS free. He teaches that way and expects that same respect in return.
He as a really good teacher! I'm not so into math but he made it fun by doing a lot of worksheets. I took him two summers ago 5 week class and got a B. I only missed one class, but like any math class if you miss more then one class you're already behind. He explained things really well. I would take him again if I have a chance in the future.
very cool/funny teacher. very good at teaching and explaining concepts. highly recommend. all homework is done online with is an easy A.
Very funny and cool teacher. Explains everything very clearly. Easy A class
TOok this class based on reccomendations from friends... blech were they wrong didnt like him hes annoying and a bit rude when u come to his office hours he scolds you for not coming sooner... not the worst but certainly not best either.
Best math teacher at mesa!
This teacher is rude unhelpful and not understanding at all .... Not to mention his looks are that of a homeless man - dirty unshaven wrinkled clothes oily hair ... It shows how he treats his job and students take any other teacher
one of the best instructors i've ever had,
Excellent professor...well- organized... D recommended!
Excellent Professor...well-organized...D recommended!
Professor Bass is great. His lecture is the most effective way possible. Highly recommended.
Great teacher in general. Understands everything and explains everything very clear.
I took Prof Bass for back-to-back 8 week courses in Math 46 and 96. He is the BEST math teacher I have ever had. Explains the material very well and goes over it if you have problems. He was always available for help. He is fun and very energetic, so you are NEVER bored in his class. Homework is all online. Lots of test prep too! Thanks Mr. Bass!:
Pretty cool guy. It was stupid to buy 2 books, especially the second one that only had 3 chapters costed more than the first one. But overall, he's helpful. Got a B+
Professor Bass is awesome! He is very thorough and clear and has a funny sense of humor that makes spending two hours in a room learning precalculus bare able. He answers tons of questions and his tests are fair. He doesn't assign a lot of homework either which is nice as long as you take notes and pay attention in class. Definitely recommend him.
Prof. Bass was pretty good. He started the semester saying this was his first year of tenure and then was absent at least 4 or 5 times. I thought he was a tough grader and wasn't always prepared but he does teach the material fairly well and is clear. He presents everything in a very precise and straight-forward/easy to follow manner. I did well.
I haven't had a math class for over 20 years. I got through ProBass Class with a B in 46 and pass 96.ProBass is a fab Pro. He uses MathXL which is like having a personal tutor at home.He does everything in his power to help you succeed. He says teaching is his passion more than Math.so much he is covered in chalk by the end of class.
I thought he was a fairy tough grader. There was rarely any homework so practicing what you learned was up to you (that's what made the class difficult for me). He's pretty entertaining and his personality kind of reminds me of Jack Black. He's very clear on what he expects from you and makes pre-cal very understandable. I'd recommend him.
Probably the best teacher in mesa. Really wants his students to succeed. I highly recommend
Mr. Bass is an excellent math teacher. He is not only great at teaching but makes sure you have good notes to take home with you. My only complaint.. he's been absent way too much. It has been very hard on some of his students. He had a baby, so I am very understanding. But the subs weren't properly informed on what to teach.
Professor Bass is a good professor. But, he never showed up to class because he had a new born. He provided us with a horrible substitute. Tests are always hard to relate to what we learn in class. Doesn't drop a test, only drops one quiz. No homework, its up to us to study on our own. Doesn't reply emails.
Good teacher, makes it easy to understand. He tells you exactly how its going for test and grading. Grades very fairly. Moves pretty quickly so it up to you to study. You actually have to earn your grade in this class so don't expect to do nothing and get the grade you want. Highly recommended if you really want to learn the subject.
Really clear when explaining his lectures and in depth, especially when people ask him questions. Exams are easy to relate to if you do your homework and take good notes. Funny guy as well, made 3 hours of class entertaining. Loves to kick chalk around after when the one he uses starts to decompose from all the helpful info he puts on the board.
He is the best teacher at Mesa, and it's awesome because he knows his math. I had him for Math 46 and 96. Both 8-week courses, so I finished them in one semester. He isn't just smart - he truly believes in his students. Go every day and keep your notes clean. He's fair on tests and homework. Once again, he was truly the best.
Honestly, best professor I have ever had. He really knows his stuff and he explains everything in the most straightforward and clear way possible. I took 46 and 96 in the same semester using his 8 week session classes. He is THE man. Take him take him take him!
Seemed intimidating at first. Didn't take any crashers or waitlisters. Turned out to be the best math teacher I've ever taken. Lessons are extremely organized and he goes through concepts thoroughly. Quiz and test problems are very similar to the optional homework problems. Definitely recommend this professor!
Three words, BEST PROFESSOR EVER!
Great Prof. 10/10 on clarity he doesn't skip steps. Not and easy A, but you do learn allot from him.
Best Math teacher ever! Scratch that BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! Explains material efficiently, extremely helpful, and genuinely cares about his students. Online homework wasn't too difficult as he explains the material before assignments are due and answers any questions on homework. To sum up, anyone that needs a math class, get this professor!!!
Best math teacher! Scratch that, BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! He's extremely helpful, explains material efficiently, and genuinely cares for his students. Homework is online with no textbook required. Gives more than enough time to finish homework. He answers any questions on homework and helps you solve them. To sum up, he is great professor! Take him!
Great teacher, very helpful. I am horrible at math, but taught in a way that each person could learn from him. Broke down math that made sense to me.
Professor Bass has ruined me! He was an amazing teacher and I can't imagine any other math teacher comparing to him. He's good and he knows it. I absolutely love the way he does notes. He's so orgnized and on top of things. Kicking myself for not taking him again. I miss hearing him drag his feet all around the classroom.
Wow Confused since like the 7th grade. But dude makes math clear Even enjoyable Lectures are great and fun but be ready to work for it. Very fair
Absolutely amazing professor. Math lovers, math haters, Professor Bass is the guy for the job. He makes learning FUN (even the hard stuff). He is very clear, interactive, and helpful. My only disappointment is that he isn't teaching Math 116 next semester. Give this guy a raise!!!!
Take him! He is trully passionate about his job and explains everything crystal clear. If you have any questions he is always happy to help in his office hours or after class! I have always been struggling in math but thanks to him I learned a lot and can undertand the material perfectly well. Best Math teacher I've ever had!
great class
Alan Bass is a very caring professor. He genuinely wants you to pass the class. He completely understands that life is tough and you have higher priorities then this class. He will go out of his way to help you out but you have to show him you want that A. I would recommend him to everyone and take his class again for sure.
This guy is awesome! He is very clear each step of the way through each chapter, I could go back in my notes now and solve any algebra problem put in front of me. I was terrified of finishing my math requirements until I took his class over summer and then went back for the second part of algebra, he made me confident in math.
Before i took this class i was doing math by just going through the motions. Bass was able to explain why math is done the way its done. He explained why different concepts are important and how they are all connected. He really works to help students not only pass the class but get a good grade. Took him for precalc.
Even though the class is very difficult, i really enjoyed having him as my teacher. i'm terrible and hardly passed, but he has hours to go met with him for extra help. Also, be aware he likes to use Mymathlab religiously. He gave most of our tests on there, and all homework is done online so have a computer handy...
Professor Bass was such a great teacher that i began to like math again. He took his time in explaining every detail and answered every question I had. I highly recommend.
Great professor! He went through a tough time in his personal life but was there for us whenever we needed him. Hilarious. He loves mymathlab, so be proficient with computers. Best math professor I've ever had.
He's so awesome and so funny! He gives lots of homework, but is so worth it. He is a very fair grader on tests and really makes you work for your grade! It's not an easy class, but its also not the hardest class I have ever taken. I would and will take him again for higher math courses. He's great!
He's the man. Math has never been clear to me before Prof Bass. Work hard or don't bother, but if you do he'll meet you half way and completely fix the way you understand math. Seriously. I just wish he taught more classes.
HE is one of the GREATEST math professors I have ever had! Mymathlab for homework, quizzes and test (computer)!!! No text book required! Funny and entertaining. Class is interesting and he is funny and charismatic!
He's a great teacher. I am not a math guy at all, yet I understood almost everything that went on in lecture. He is a very fair grader, giving points on tests if you're in the ballpark. I took him for 96 and am currently in his Trig class (I am an english major), which I believe says something about his eagerness to help his students out.
He is amazing. I never had professor like him. i really recommend take his class.
Great math teacher but can be a little bi-polar at times. Had to listen to a few rants of his on teacherstudent relationships.
Great professor. Unique teaching style. Keeps the lectures lively and explains everything clearly. I was worried about pre-cal but now that im about to take it next semester, not so much. No regrets here, would take again.
I've taken Bass once before for math 46 last summer and he's still my favorite math professor. I love his teaching style. Especially, the way he does lecture notes. He'll make you work for it and he's just an amazing math professor. You can tell he's passionate about teaching math. Can't wait to have him for pre-calc.
LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEE Mr. Bass. Such an amazing teacher!! Unfortunately he got sick this semester and had to leave. My grade is his class was an A before he left. After the sub came it dropped horribly. Alan Bass's teaching style is seriously amazing. I HATED math before I took this class. Trust me, take him when he comes back!!! Definitely worth it!
Math is my weakest subject but it was the only class I looked forward on going. Prof Bass was helpful. Lectures were easy to understand. Used MyMathLab. No textbook required but recommended. Quick to reply to emails. Really passionate about teaching.
Professor Bass, is one of the best Math teachers i had. Makes everything clear and he is also there to help you on math whenever you need it.
Great teacher but tough class! Notes are important come to class and be prepared to stay the entire time. His 3 hour precal class goes by pretty fast, he is very knowledgeable and really enjoys his higher level STEM students! Gives you everything you need for the tests as long as you show up and do your mymath lab work.
Took him just this past Spring. I took for Pass or No Pass. I did not pass. His test's are weighed heavy and there is a lot of homework that doesn't even help bump up your overall grade too much. He does use MyMathLab but does not utilize the book at all. All test are taken on MyMathLab except midterm and final. He was tough. Good luck passing.
Can't say enough good things about Alan, loved how he taught. The first 20 minutes of every class is nothing but him writing notes - those are the 'notes for the day.' After that he just lectures and references the notes. It works REALLY WELL, because even if the lecture goes over your head, you still have awesome notes to reference.
best math teacher i had
This professor is very helpful when students need his help he is accessible outside of class time. He explains everything so clearly that his students will understand what he is explaining.
