he a a very nice teacher and is very knowledgeable. he can make any topic fun and interesting (even stats)
great teacher very helpfull and he loves the simpsons. just read the book and you will do good on the test

Really awesome, tells fun stories. Really relates to students and has fun with the subjects he teaches. Lets you argue for points on the day after the test.

He is funny and interesting. I love the class and the way he teaches it.

Easy to talk to, automatic 20s on papers, speaks in a language students can understand.
very funny and cool guy. he was helpful and made me like the not-very-fun class.

He's a funny guy. Tells good stories and makes it fun to be in the class.
hes a good guy, but he doesnt use the book as much as he should. you really have to read on your own if you want to do well.
Very chill prof. Definitely hilarious and knows how to relate to his students.
this guy is a total moron, he cannot teach anything. i hated him and his class, he should be fired...go to minnesota buddy
Beauchamp is a good teacher. Someone who has their doctorate obviously knows what they are talking about. There should be more teachers like him. Makes class interesting and seems like an all-around nice guy.
Great teacher , who makes the boring field of pschology more instresting.....
Teacher is HILARIOUS. Knows great stories but that's all class is really good for. Final is the easiest test of the class.
The lectures where confusing.
I've taken so many classes from Al it's hard to keep track. Some of his writing assignments are very unclear, but that's to give you room to write what you want. If you opened the book and read you can pass any class with him very easily. He also allows you to argue over tests resulting in EC
Very nice and REAL guy. Doesn't let his phd go to his head like most do. Class is great when he talks about random things, I would take him not for the subject, but just because he's so cool.
the man can't teach all he does is cut and paste powerpoint slides. plus he is sooo boring and has no originality
I had Beauchamp for Psych of Personality and it was one of the most fun and interesting classes that I have ever taken in my 4 years at NMU. This professor is great!! Hes funny and he really knows his stuff! Dude, he's awesome!!! I got a straight A in his class!
Interesting to listen to and has a good sense of humor...very understanding when it comes to making up tests...for the term paper, basically if you do it and meet the page length requirement you get an A
He is awesome!!!I have him right now for PY 211 and he is One of the BEST Professors I have ever had at Northern. Psychology can be confusing but he makes it interesting and fun. TAKE HIM! You will love him. He really knows how to teach Psychology. He is a genius. He is also very helpful :)
This guy is boring. Not only are his lectures uninteresting, they almost put you to sleep. He also is confusing and beware of taking a summmer course with him. He waits until the last week and throws three tests at you within five days. Avoid his class if at all possible.

OMG! he's awseome. Just stay after when he does the Tests, b/c you will get some points if you stay after.
He makes it so that you can pass it. Its boring, but you will pass with him.
He is a crazy awesome teacher, hes get off topic in lecture sometimes, but if you read and study the book then you are fine!
Had Al for a lot of classes. He is great! You can't help but love the man!
Nice guy. Willing to help out if you are willing to ask. He is really good about assignments, if you really try, you are going to do well. His tests are a bit hard, but if you study, and do the study guide, they aren't that terrible. Interesting stories, and enjoyable talks when off topic. Take this professor, he is cool.
Awesome teacher! Has his PhD and definitely knows what he's talking about but doesn't rub it in your face at all. Very liberal thinker and great sense of humor. Class does get boring at times, but if you study and take notes...you'll do fine. fair grader.
He is very moody, unclear, and doesn't answer emails with any promptness at all.
Research MEthods may not be my favorite subject but Professor Beauchamp did a great job with it. He is a wonderful teacher and I am glad that I got the chance to be in one of his classes!!
Good class, You'll learn and it's fairly easy, just what a college course should be.
His classes are usually an easy A, and he's ok entertainment value. He's not very professional, which is fun until you need something. He doesn't respond to e-mails quickly, if at all, and is hard to get ahold of even during office hours.

This prof sucks. Lectures are um... interesting to say the least. Tests are hard. Will tell you ahead of time what's on them but it won't help much.
Cool prof. lectures, tells you what to study for exams and doesnt B.S. It's a good course, you learn a lot and it's easy, the perfect combination!!!
Kinda boring, tests are easy, nice guy
Great Prof. Tests are easy.. you just have to study, whoever complains that the tests are hard obviously doesn't belong in college if they can't take the time to study. Very interesting lectures.
He's alright just never responds to emails or phone calls in a timely mannor. Lectures are boring but what do you expect?
very easy class. lots of extra credit. easy-going prof.
Al is a really easy going guy. You never really have to attend his class until the one class before the test-- he gives a review of everything that will be on it. Every class after the test he gives extra credit points for going to the lecture. Although his lectures seem boring, they are interesting-he has a lot of experience.
He gives a lot of extra credit, so even if you don't do as well as planned on the exams, if you get the extra points, you'll do fine. Basically he stands up there and talks while everyone is on their laptops not paying attention.
Al is a pretty cool guy!
Dr. Beauchamp was one of the funniest, wittiest, professors I have ever had. Taking his class at the age of 25 amongst a bunch of 18 year olds was really interesting. It was a psychology lesson in itself.
I took this class during the summer, and I was worried about the workload, but it wasnt bad at all. I recommend going to class, but its not required. He gives you a study guide with everything you need to know before the tests. Hes a pretty witty guy and can be entertaining at times although it is a lecture class and sometimes hard to pay attention
Extra credit galore. Would have been great if he wasn't sick for half of it (he turned it into a web class). Study hard to get your A though, his curve keeps you right at a B otherwise. His animal rights ethics are disgusting, though; he made me want to teach -him- on the subject.
What a worthless class! He graded easy and gave a major curve for every test. It seems pointless to go to class because we had nearly 300 and most just talked over him while he talked about whatever happened to be on his mind that day. Luckily he gives study guides because you have to whittle down 90% of what he says to find what's on the test.
He's got a lot of knowledge, kind of rambles on and on. Attendence is not mandatory, and I never bought the book. Show up for his study guide (day before exam) and listen. Don't bother taking notes any other time. Curves his exams, Good guy.
As far as a person and a grader goes, Beauchamp is great. If you need structure and someone to actually sit down with you and explain things in order for you to learn, then hes not for you.
Al is a great guy, and a good proffessor. Just know the concepts well for his exams which can be pretty tough.
Hard to pay attention to this guy! Lectures are very VERY VERY boring. All material in text anyways.
Absolutely aweful! I think he should spend less time on his 20 min. cig break and spend more on actually teaching the information that is important to know for the exams! And focus on the material, instead of going of on irrelevant tangents...
easy prof, dont bother attending the lectures, they will only bore you. just show up the class period before the exam for the test review and read the book.
Beauchamp is a joke. Don't bother going to classes... He just rambles on tangents about back in his day when he drank & smoked. He also takes 20 min smoke breaks. His lectures are pointless. Just go to the class period before tests... he tells you exactly what to study. Tests are hard, but if you study what he says, you'll do fine.
He is by far the worst professor at NMU! He lectures are pointless, they consist of drinking and smoking. He has 20 minute smoke breaks. Test are really hard because he doesn't know how to teach. Don't even try to talk to him for help because he basically makes you feel retarded. DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
Ooh Al Beauchamp...he's brilliant, odd, kind, and well-intentioned. However, I tried to pay attention in that class and just failed miserably. He's most interesting when he's talking about his research. I like the man, but his lectures need a bit of spice...Moderately easy course and option to debate test questions after test to receive points.
He is a good teacher. If psychology is your major, you will find no problem with his class. He gives a lot of examples from his own experiences, which I find very helpful. If you are not willing to take responsibility for your own grade then this is not a class for you. Not a hard class, and a great teacher!
strangely worded tests, multiple choice responses often vary little from eachother
Didn't really need to go to class since i just sat on my computer the whole time. But Go to class period before the test and he tells you everything you need to know. Never really paid attention and got an easy A.
Very laid back, doesn't care if you play on laptop all hour and almost always lets class out early. gives you study guide for exams but exams are worded in confusing way.
Al Beauchamp is a really nice, laidback, and understanding guy. At first I thought he was just the burnt out version of Tommy Chong but he really knows his stuff. Come the day before the test because he reviews everything you need to study. If you study from powerpoints, you'll do well. Research paper required in this class.
Don't take his evening class! He showed up 20, yes, TWENTY minutes late, EVERY time, took at 20 minute smoke break in the middle of class, then kept us late for 20 minutes, so we were still basically paying this guy for 20 minutes of play time. His tests were unnecessarily difficult, and his lectures were rarely on topic. Avoid him at all costs.
his class is impossibly easy. people who are complaining of "hard tests" must not have studied. show up the class before the exam and he reads the test to you and tells you what you need to know. type up what he tells you, elaborate on it, study it, and you'll get an easy A. its impossible to get lower than a B on his tests if you have the review.
You can't slide through: LISTEN. Download PowerPoints & take lecture notes. Quizzes are given every 2-3 chapters -READ THEM. Alan Beauchamp is a great professor, like everyone has said if you just pay attention to lectures&go to class the day before the exam it's easy.He even goes over the exam the day after so if there was a ? a lot of people got wrong he will adjust everyone's score.I've taken2classes of his&never had a problem,he really knows what hes talking about
The class is taught completely through powerpoint lectures. I can be a bore. He is clearly qualified but not the best teacher. He goes off topic but is insightful. Count on yourself to be responsible for the material. I received a B based on tests but accumulated 40 points of extra credit for attending every class and received an A overall.
I had Alan as a Prof and an Advisor in the early 1990's and I can say, without a doubt, he was both an excellent teacher and an all around good guy. I was lucky to have him.
Beauchamp never has his things together. He is the worst prof I have had at NMU. His tests are purely based off of the book and study guides. There is no reason to go to class.
Al Beauchamp is very hard to listen to, he doesn't give out good study guides and gives them the day before the test. When you ask him a question he either doesn't answer it or makes you sound like an idiot for asking the question. I highly recommend not taking the class with him. I never liked getting up and go to his class everyday
He rambles on about nothing the whole class and expects you to know everything. Also, he told us not to look at the book and only the power point but as it turns out, EVERYTHING was in the book and the class average was a 63!!
Class was hardest I have ever taken in four years of college even though previously maintaining a 3.86 GPA. Very technical, very precise. Good luck if you attempt his class.
Definitely the hardest class I've taken so far. He is horrible at responding to e-mails and is terribly unprofessional. The only bonus to this class is that you get two attempts at each test. I suggest avoiding this class if you can.
Awesome Teacher! I am not sure what people are complaining about. He was fair, hilarious, and really interesting. He basically tells you exactly what to study. He is a really cool nice guy. If I could I would have taken every psych class with him! An easy B or A.
Al just rambles on about useless things constantly, at one point he asked us how to get rid of someone he didn't like. You don't have to go to class except for the Tuesday before the test because he gives you a test review which is basically the test. I would suggest reading the book and not pay attention to the powerpoints.
By far the hardest class I will ever take. He does not know how to work a powerpoint, and will ramble aimlessly through a lecture. The class tests usually averaged around a D, and he would have to give free points. Horrible teaching skills aside, he is pretty funny.
The professor can be a little hard to understand at times but he is a good and a kind professor. But he does get off topic at times and goes on a tangent about his past researches.
Horrible. The only thing I learned from him? Never take him again. If you are interested in psychology at all and actually want to learn something, choose any professor except him. Literally got asked to give a good review at the end of the semester in which case he would "be nice" about our grades.
He was great connecting with students and trying to treat them honestly, with great humor, and fairness. The days before tests he would literally tell you everything you'd need to know. This still meant looking up the info and knowing it but he pointed you in the right direction. He'd also give points back if you could argue a question,he is fair.
Dr Beauchamp is a hard man to get a hold of, but he is a relatively easy grader, you have five tests and if you read then your fine. start any papers early otherwise you'll be crashing at the end. But not too bad of a course for taking it online.
Easy GPA boost
All he does is put up slides, which are word for word information from the book and then rambles on throughout the entire class. Be prepared to self teach this course. My main problem with him though is his attitude towards students, he is rude and unprofessional. If you have the option to take this class with another professor, do it.
The lectures seemed to be quite random but if you read the book, you'll be fine. Almost every question on exams comes directly from the book. Also, always do the study guides and use the book and the lecture notes for them. He basically gives you exactly what's on the exam. If you go to class, you get a bunch of extra credit for being present.
I took this class online. He has 5 tests with a 7-10 page paper using 10 primary literature paper's,. His tests where hard for me because they were really random. The exams are 1 hour long, and I used my textbooks, but I still had trouble finding all the answers. I ended up with a 90 in the exam. So read the textbook before you take the test.
