Helpful lectures, cares about teaching, does his best with a tough subject, tests are resonable difficulty (though take-home ones are long) and very generous curve during COVID semester. So hard, unless you're already good at Econ. The lectures were not that easy to follow. Tbf, Bester kept saying he didn't want to be there (Burke was in Florence for a semester so he had to take over), but I thought his explanations were hard to follow and he wasn't the best at answering questions. That being said, he's a funny guy occasionally.

He often goes on tangents, but he explains the material in a way that it appears similar on the exams. The exams do have real-world elements but the numbers and concepts are simplified down to concepts we've studied. At one point he did say he wished he quit before he was forced to teach this class. I think he's doing a good job for his first time

Really does an amazing job of teaching econ to those who aren't a fan of it initially.

Bester is great. He's very smart and a good lecturer, given the difficulty of the material. Tests are hard, but hes funny and cares about his students (in higher level econ courses prolly not for intro micro).

Prof. Bester just doesn't want to help. He goes off on long tangents on lectures and fails to explain fundamentals clearly. I get that he knows a lot about Econometrics but he's teaching an Intro metrics class, his reticence to answer questions and make the content manageable was extremely discouraging. He's also super condescending for no reason.

his slides are great but his lectures are not worth going to. super boring lecturer. EXTREMELY disorganized. did not care about students at all. did not care about teaching this class at all. avoid him for a large intro lecture class.

Granted that Bester was thrown into a class he didn't want, I still think he did a fairly good job. One criticism I do have that is recurring here is the lack of explanation in slides, very difficult to reach through email, and kinda confusing exams. Nonetheless he is a great professor and I recommend him FOR ANYTHING but micro.

Hard to review cuz this was his first/only time teaching the class (and is notoriously better in upper level courses). He's not as bad as some reviews make him seem. Class was disorganized. He didn't give us relevant content for exam prep and crashed out w/o apology when ppl complained. Lectures were skippable but sidebar content pops up on exams.

Bester was not that bad. Sure, he crashed out ONCE over email and said that he wished he never would've agreed to teaching intro micro, but beneath that anxious, scared, former UChicago professor with ADHD is a heart of Gold.

Very difficult class. In addition to saying he regretted teaching the class, prep for exams was lacking. With few to no practice problems given out for each exam, studying for the exams was incredibly difficult. Weekly homework was very fairly graded but both the homework and recitations were irrelevant to the exams, which made up most of the grade

Class was very disorganized. Test prep was lacking. There's also the infamous Canvas post where he said he should've quit instead of teaching this class. Even so, Bester is very knowledgeable, and he truly loves the Econ and explaining it to students. I learned a lot of real world applications. I'd give him another chance in a class he prefers.

Tbh don't know why people were rating this guy 6 weeks into the semester... Can't deny the rough beginning but he pulled it together and he clearly cared about our success even if he didn't really want to be teaching the class. I went to most lectures and he went on tangents a lot but the dude loves Econ and sometimes that all you can ask for.

He teaches econometrics in the easiest way possible (e.g. just testing you on the interpretation of Stata output) but it comes at the price of his ego. The lectures do not focus on what you need to know for homework or exams so I learned everything outside of class.

He's an engaging lecturer and I love how he incorporates real-life examples that correspond to the economic topic covered. Some of the test questions were tricky but it was fairly easy to get an A. Pretty accessible if effort was made and he was quick with feedbacks. He made me enjoy econ more and I can't wait to take him for upper level econ

His treatment of students immediately turned me off. Super rude for no reason, and was often condescending. If you asked a "stupid question", he made it known. I dreaded going to lecture because of it. However, he is a very knowledgeable professor. Slides/lectures were informative. Just wish he treated students with respect to keep them engaged.

Micro is a math-heavy course. Bester is a mediocre econ prof and a worse math prof. For someone who emphasizes not needing multi for micro, he uses multi concepts to explain micro, but does a poor job of explaining multi. Slightly too concerned with explaining why he is a good prof, and easing your concerns about micro; less so about teaching.

Very entertaining but also somewhat boring since he would teach very deliberately and slowly. Basically just covered AP Stats again, and the exams were very fair in terms of content tested. Great guy, goes on a couple long tangents in class so sometimes you stop listening, but probably your easiest path to a good grade w/ econ stats.

Professor Bester makes me believe in nominative determinism; he's truly one of the Best(er) professors I've had the privilege of taking at Georgetown. He is passionate, intelligent, caring, and engaged. I've taken I-Micro and E-Stats with him and the tests reflect what's covered in the lectures, and learned a lot in both classes. Highly recommend!

Lectures were super fun, and I learned so many interesting things about real world data. You can tell Bester really loves what he's teaching. Test prep and assignments weren't posted on time, and tests were hard, to the point where you could enjoy and do poorly at the same time. Still best Stats option.
