He's good, but you've got to study for his tests. And show up for class cause he will give those pop quizzes.
He used to be good....now the class sucks. Prepare to be bored and bring your laptop.
Borho did not seem to know the material he was teaching. I was told that this was because it was his first year teaching. For someone with that much experiance in the field, that is unacceptable. I say, unless you are a MET major, dont go to his class... You'll learn more on the power points.
Good teacher who cares about his students success. Just a tip, Don't leave class early!
Good teacher, but the workload is very high. You must really study hard in it to get an A or B. I'd recommend going to class every meeting after having previewed the material. Go to the labs-the attendance here will help your grade. I'm getting a C in the class and felt I deserved that grade.
Awful instructor. Workload is very high, and his explanations are not clear. His teaching consists of only reading the power point notes. Unfortunately this class is required for many students.
Bor is in his last name....that says it all. This guy should go back to real work and stop teaching.
If you go to class and lectures you'll still have to work a little to get an A or B. Not easy but fair. Go to his office if you don't understand, he really works well when you have him one on one. The Lab - boring and useless
Hard Teacher, very confusing, good luck getting a B in the class, if you cut class your screwed.
Explains atmospheric phenomenon very well. Makes practice problems to study for tests! Good teacher!
go to class everyday and read the book, it will help very much on tests.
Knows stuff. Lectures fairly good. Gets on tangets frequently, but doesn't lose effective classtime because of it.
Decent prof. just really dry material for the class, and a LOT to know!
Great teacher, who knows a lot and has a lot of tricks when it comes to forecasting. Great guy, very easy to get a long with and has no problem with helping a student if need be.
Great teacher, can make class a little boring though. Really nice guy.
Brings fun to class
Al is nice, it helps that he's so enthusiastic about the subject. Read your book and go to class and if you have to leave early, sit by the door. I know aviation students have to take this class but as tempting as it is to bring your laptop just to play games during lecture... pay attention, stuff he says might be on the test and not in the book.

Good professor. Does a good job with really boring material. Go to class since not everything you need is in the book. A lot of material to know.
Great guy, tons of stories, and passionate about the subject matter. Nerdy, but in a good way. I second that avit students resist the urge to be on their laptops all of class. It can be a tough class, but he fills his powerpoints with real life radar charts and images and makes lectures far more interesting than they might otherwise be.
Kinda boring, but interested in subject. Many stories make it easy to understand and relate.
Pretty good class, he likes to tell self indulging stories
dont buy the book, spend some time with power point and you will get an A, also pay attention in class, that is a given.
I completely agree with not buying the book, just get the clicker and stick to the powerpoints. What you think is just a fun story might end up as a test question so go to class
great teacher
He is a very good teacher. I had him for meteorology 120. He has cool stories and explains material very good.
I also agree with avoiding the book, I never used it. Get a clicker and watch the powerpoints. Also, go to class and listen to his stories.
I absolutely LOVE Al. He is a great professor is very knowledgable! He wants his students to succeed. I had mono 3 weeks into school and couldn't get out of bed early for his class. He was very accomodating. Had to do same amount of work but was willing to work with me one on one when didn't understand and got an A. Lots to learn but worth it!
Let's face it. Learning about atmospheric stability and cloud types isn't fun. That's what makes Al so great. He's so enthusiastic about what he does that it makes you interested in it....and his stories are hilarious. He reminds of my grandad, so I look forward to what crazy thing he'll say next. Go to class and study and you'll do fine.
Overall, he's a great teacher. The content is pretty complicated, but he's been teaching long enough that he knows which topics are difficult, and spends extra time explaining them. He's always able to help people out, and has some great stories. If nothing else, its fun to laugh at how excited he gets. He makes it fun as well as informative.
Awesome!

Borho is awesome! Don't buy the book, just the clicker. He uses the technology available very well and really knows how to teach a class. Plus his stories are great. I'd take another class from him.
Very talented teacher. Tests are 50 question multiple choice (electronic ones). Uses a clicker for bonus points. Highly recommend taking Atsc 110 for a science elective.
Great class if you've ever been annoyed with forecasters telling you what they have decided out of 10 options to happen. Learn how to make your own forecast and what conditions are needed for differet weather phenoms to happen...Raw data becomes true weather in this class
Because he wanted a hotness, he shall have one. Good prof., has stories to tie in what he is teaching, so it keeps the class real. Didn't have a lot of time to go over things, but made due with what he had. The basics covered by a good teacher. Could you ask for more? Well, he could give out ice cream after tests....
good teacher
Al is an awesome Teacher! Being a Meteorology Major, He makes the boring side of the field more exciting. I gave a Hot for the sole reason of keeping up with Fred who has one. Keep up the good work, Al!
Borho was an oustanding professor. He wasn't a pushover, but very willing to work with you.
Al is one of the best science teachers I have ever had (even though this is my intended major). His presentations are clear and to the point. The clicker questions are a nice touch and his tests are very fair. His homework is also equally helpful. I look forward to taking his class again in a year or two in broadcasting meteorology!
Borho is a great professor! He is very heavy on the powerpoints which can get boring at time but he explains everything very well. The clicker questions are really nice too. If you go to every class you can get 4 bonus points at the end of the semster. Tests are easy if you just go over the powerpoints. Highly recomended!
He's a great professor. Easy to listen to and willing to work with students.
An all-around great instructor. He's happy to answer ?s. Lectures are easy to understand and test questions come directly from them. Pay attention in class and you'll be well-prepared. Clicker questions give you a good idea of how you'll do at exam time. My only issue: I sit right up front and sometimes still have difficulty hearing everything.
AWESOME AND INTERESTING PROFESSSOR!!!!!!!!!!!
Really awesome professor! He provides review powerpoint presentations for EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER! Tests are 50 questions, scantron format. If you are grade bordering & you went to class and answered the Clicker questions, you can get up to 4% added to your grade. Thanks Al! :)
Borho is an excellent professor. He is always making sure we understand the material and is always willing to help us if we have any questions or concerns. He makes his presentations clear and very straight forward, and he makes the information interesting to everyone. Highly highly reccommended!
Favorite Professor. Interesting and clear
Thanks Al....!
He was good. The material is really, really boring if you're not an aviation student and are just taking this as an Essential Studies requirement. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it really pays off to the tune of extra credit!
Awesome Class. Everyone said it would be hard but its not. Just study.
Alan is a great professor who has lots of great experience and stories to supplement lecture. The class has three tests and then the final. The average was usually about 80% for each test. This means its probably the easiest lab class at UND. Really, the class isn't hard if you study. Just go to class for the extra credit "clicker" points.
Alan is a great teacher, and will offer a great introduction to Meteorology. Show up to class, take good notes, do his Extra Credit clicker questions, and you will easily earn at least a B. Great class and will look for Mr.Borho in the future
Extremely interesting class if you pay attention. I had to take the class for my major and it turned out it was worth it! Take good notes!
An excellent teacher. Very avid about the subject and really cares about your grade. Also very helpful and humorous. Giving him a "hot" rating because he deserves it.
Very interesting Attendance is very important though
Excellent Prof. I just took meteorology as a lab science and because of his accommodating teaching style and great in class examples I was able to breeze through the course. You learn a lot and the only homework you need to do is study for tests (which he posts study guides for with answers). You do have to go to class though.
Pay attention, show up, and you'll do fine. He posts study guides which are pretty similar to the tests, he has his own quirky way of doing things but it works. Not any homework besides studying. Can be a bit boring-but if you sit in the front and say engaged you'll do fine.
Great professor. Everyone can get an A in this class as long as they go to class. Did not open the text book once. Read his questions for review and go to lecture and you'll be golden.
Meto was a requirement for my major and it was the one blemish I had. His classes are very boring and some of the concepts are tough. With that being said though if you review the review slides he posted it is not overly difficult.
The intro to meteorology class goes WAY too fast! The class grades are poor and test grades are equally poor. This is more of a PowerPoint speed reading course than a course where you'll learn. Good luck if you take it, may the Lord be with you.
This professor is excellent.
Al is awesome! Toughest topics are in test # 2. But nobody should get lower than a B! He has some pretty funny stories too! Goes through the powerpoint too fast in class but its online anyway. Always enjoy going to his class and always answers questions. Highly recommended!
He is a great teacher. If you just go to class and listen it is a really easy class. He tries very hard to help everyone understand and explains things many times.
Great professor who uses clicker questions to make sure students understand material. Gives review questions for each test that are very similar to test questions.
Really good teacher. The only people who don’t do well in the class are the ones who sit in back don’t do anything. I enjoyed this class. He is a really good professor. He provides you the stepping stones to get a high grade. You need to use them
I don't think anyone used the textbook for this class. Make sure you follow his powerpoints and you have to view his review slides online, they are the key to passing the exams. I liked his weather stories. This guy is really in to his subject. It is all powerpoint lecture, so you may want to bring some caffeine.
Goes way to fast through powerpoints, expects you to know stuff for tests that was not covered in class. Shares way to much personal info in his stories. Seem pretty full of himself.
Good teacher who has a good background regarding his course. Show up to class, use his online study guides, and you will be fine. People who fail don't study or utilize his powerpoints and chapter review questions on his website.
You can definitely tell he loves what he does. Not a hard class- use his review guides online and you're good to go! You do have to go to class because he'll do random quizzes/ in-class assignments and he does go through powerpoints fast, but the material isn't overly difficult. He's a great guy! The lab is simple too.
Passionate about what he does. Show up to answer klicker questions every day and do descent on the tests and you'll pass.
Lab portion was simple all taught by TAs. Lecture portion can be a bit tricky, however if you write review questions on flashcards and know the material you will be fine. Final exam was simple and fair. Attendance is highly recommended for 4% bonus points. However, I found the text book to be optional, I never used it at all and stilled pulled an A
I know nothing about Meteorology, but still got a B in this class. Didn't ever use the book, but go to class. clicker questions raise your grade by 4% at the end of the semester. It saved my butt.
Best teacher I've ever had in college. This guy knows his stuff. He worked in the field for a long time and even helped develop Dopplar radar weather technology! His lectures are pretty long but he's super passionate and the topic is interesting so it's not too boring. If you go to class and pay attention you'll get an A no-problem.
He seems to know his stuff but is not very effective at teaching. It is very hard to take notes on powerpoints because he goes through them so quickly. He isn't very friendly or helpful to students and seems very full of himself. One of the worst teachers I've had and would not recommend.
Mr. Borho requires students to work hard, pay attention, and come to class, but his class is very interesting and If you are paying attention there is not a lot of out of class work required.
great professor. explains everything clearly, exams are easy if you take the time to review the lectures. bonus points for clicker questions makes it super easy to get an A. textbook not really needed
DON'T WASTE MONEY ON THE TEXTBOOK. Just come to class and answer the clicker questions. If you look at the review question powerpoints online before the tests you'll be fine.
Well, he's a precision weather forecaster, decent mustache, event orientated male who enjoys long walks down University. Show up to class and get to know the guy, he's got a lot to say and little amount of time so sit down and be quiet and get ready to have the experience of a lifetime.
I wasn't interested in this class, but I will say he's a good teacher and if you study and show up everyday you should at least get a B. He's doesn't deal with BS so I wouldn't talk in his class unless you're trying to get kicked out. Its absolutely hilarious to see though. Guy has a great mustache BTW.
He is an awesome man. He is very intelligent about the subject, and has quite a few interesting stories to keep class interesting. Did not really use the textbook.
Borho is the man! He is very quirky and loves the material he teaches. Clickers are used in every class and can be used to boost up your grade a lot. For tests, I only studied his review question power points and I always got an A. I would not recommend buying the textbook because his lectures are amazing and organized. This class is awesome!!
Participation is key
Overall a very helpful and friendly guy with very clear lectures and extremely clear goals. There is participation credit daily so attendance is a must. Do not buy the textbook, everything you need is posted by him online. It can be annoying when he stops lecture and rants for 10 minutes because someone was talking, which happened a few times.
Borho is the best!
I had previous experience with meteorology, so my opinions might be biased. Borho was very clear in lectures and provides a lot of online resources to help you prepare for the test, which are fairly straightforward as long as you looked over the review. I never bought the book and encourage everyone not to, as it is totally unnecessary.
Borho is AWESOME! Definitely a great professor. He knows exactly what hes talking about and super smart. He doesn't tolerate people sitting on their phones and WILL kick you out for being rude like that.
Came in pretty scared to take Meteorology but having taken Borho's class I am now minoring in Atmospheric Science. A lot of the class is discussing real-world events and case studies which keeps the class interesting. Will very much miss this professor.
Dry materials for this course but Borho was able to keep me awake with his stories and jokes.
Fantastic professor if you go to class and participate. Textbook is not needed. Study the slides and review questions and you'll do fine. Great weather stories and an immense knowledge of his field.
Borho has some funny stories but his lectures I would never go to if not for the clicker questions for participation points. He has three tests and the final. Memorize the review questions online and you will get an A. The grade you get is based on how much time you put into it. Don't buy the textbook, you never use it!
Great lectures! Just read the questions on the power point and you'll pass.
Alan is awesome, super chill guy. He kicked people out in my class for talking and stuff. Everyone says hes the best professor ever, but I didn't enjoy him all that much. His lectures are often geared towards atsci majors which isnt a terrible thing, but as someone who has little to no experience with this subject coming in I was lost.
Awesome Professor, his lectures are long but very interesting. I would jump at the chance to take one of his classes again. This is not an easy A, especially if you take the lab portion with it. The lab was harder than the class. You will learn so much useful information, save your notes and book for future reference.
Had some interesting stories, but he will put you to sleep some days in class. Other than that, he is a good professor, and as long as you review the review slides,, you will get a good grade in this class. Also SHOW UP TO CLASS AND GET YOUR CLICKER POINTS. It is an easy 4% added to your final grade if you do.
Very awesome teacher. He usually does not give you homework, but if you are taking this class, you are taking it with a lab that does give homework. He is funny and is there to help you out. Be there and be attentive, and you should do just fine.
Great teacher, who tells great stories. Is always engaged in the class.
Took this class to fulfill an essential studies requirement. I learned a lot, and I really enjoyed it! Definitely my favorite class since starting college. If you like applying what you learn in class to real life, then this is the prof for you! He's very enthusiastic about his job, and you'll always know the forecast!
I took Alan Borho for Intro to Meteorology just to get my science credit out of the way and I would recommend doing this rather than chemistry or biology. He puts all the test questions into a review for you so you have a study guide and he goes through lecture in good detail. He's a boring teacher to listen to but it's an easy A.
Bohro made this class very interesting. He packs a lot of information into the lectures, and if your class starts to slack off he will definitely find extra assignments or quizzes to assign so he can assure that everyone is learning. He was very respectful, and can seem overbearing at times, but he just wants to see that students are successful.
Be prepared for long boring slides, Borho is a very nice professor so if you get on his good side you could see some extra points your way. Also, now attendance may be graded because of how much my semester classmates didn't show up... sorry. Anyways, just listen in lecture and study his online guides and you'll do just fine. Don't be lazy like me.
I am currently taking my second class with Al. If you don't have any background knowledge in meteorology in can be intimidating at first, but he makes it easy to catch on. Make sure to read over the slides before the exam. He will also tell you the main topics that will be tested on the day before the exam! Take note and study those especially!
Required for aviation majors. Uses Tophat for pop quizzes. Pay attention in class and you'll pass. DO NOT BUY A BOOK!!!! All of his lecture slides are taken out of the book. He says it is required, but it's never used.
Borho is a great professor for 110. It is a difficult class, but if you pay attention and study the materials, you should have no problem. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, he gives you everything you need in the class so there is no need for it.
Using top hat for classes. Participation is required. I personally do not like his class because the tests are really hard.
As an essential study course it was made way too difficult for someone who doesn't have prior knowledge in meteorology. Borho assumes you have a lot of base knowledge on the subject matter. Tests are very wordy and the questions are made more difficult than they need to be, tries to confuse students and makes you apply the knowledge given in class
Alan is very passionate with meteorology. I never was able to pay attention during lecture even though I showed up everyday, but studied for the tests on my own and did fine and learned a lot. Top hat adds 4% to your grade so show up to class for that. Only thing is, I got Bs on all the tests and ended up with a B, usually i get Cs and still get As
funny guy, dry humor, great teacher
Meteorology was one of the harder classes I've taken but Alan was a great prof to have for it. Your grade is based on 3 lecture tests and attendance, so GO TO CLASS you will be grateful you did at the end of the semester.
Borho is a good professor. Really knows what he is talking about but the lectures can be a little bit of a drag. Tests are a little on the harder side which is pretty much all you are graded on so put in some time and study the slides and you'll be just fine.
Al has amazing stories and cares about his students. Lectures are very dense but he uses Top Hat to keep attendance and to help you take home the key points. I never opened my textbook, his power points and quizzes give you all the info you need and are available online. He tells you exactly what to study for the tests, YOU JUST NEED TO STUDY.
TopHot is annoying, but if you make a friend and give them your username/password for it, you two can take turns with attendance. Study like a maniac for the tests, they are hard, but straight off his powerpoints. He gets really crabby when the whole class does bad, but usually passionate about the class and willing to help if you are struggling.
Professor Borho is extremely fair, caring, and helpful. He was nice and helpful when I stopped by his office to look at a test. I also love how his lectures incorporate personal stories and how they have to do with the material. His tests are a bit on the easy side (in my opinion) but you will learn a lot if you want to.
The class is %100 lectures, pay attention and take notes and it'll be a breeze, has good stories to use as examples and really cares about his students.
Al is a fantastic professor and well respected. I never took a note in his class and passed with an A . His lectures are super informational and the tests are super easy if you study using the chapter review slides. The Lab is easy and usually doesn't take the full 2 hours. If I could, I would take this class again in a heartbeat.
Borho is the frickin man. Amazing teacher. His slides are amazing and extremely thorough. The class is hard but Borho makes it easier with his explanations. AS long as you show up and pay attention you'll do fine. 10/10 would take again. Alan Borho is a weather God.
Make sure you show up to class and pay attention. Professor Borho teaches tough information but breaks in down in a fast paced interesting way. He has interesting stories that he connects to his information hes presenting. Use the study guides as a lot of the questions are almost identical to the test.
There is a good reason Borho is one of the top rated professors at UND. Amazing stories, great teacher. Would recommend him over all others for meteorology. You've heard of Mother Nature, this guy is Father Nature. Take him or you'll regret it.
I normally dislike most of my professors. Borho I liked and respected a lot. He was very knowledgeable and brought many real life case study's to class. Only down side is that he dose not use blackboard, other than that hes amazing.
Borho is really passionate about meteorology, which made the class bearable. The class itself covered a ton of information and you really had to study to get an A on tests.
Good teacher, hard class. Lectures every single class and doesn't have any review classes, It's literally just a lecture up until the test. It's a lot of studying for the tests they aren't too easy. Overall a good class you can get a A if you work for it.
His lectures are awesome. He lectures fast and wont waste your time by going to class. As Long as you listen and take notes in class and use the resources he provides you should be able to to well. He doesnt try to trick you. What he talks about is on the test. Its that simple. Absolutely love this class
As a Meteorology major myself I was excited to take this class with Mr. Borho. I loved him from the start and understand why other ATSC students respect him so well. I would do this class over again if I could. I do want to mention you have to pay for TopHat but that's a one time payment and gets you attention for questions throughout lecture.
If you study the chapter review slides you will pass every test and you should be able to get an A if you work at it. If you show up, you will get 4 bonus percentage points. Just show up and study a little and it's an easy class.
I don't think Borho is that exceptional of a professor. I never understand the hype around him. Just lectures, an occasional in class assignment and tests that are unnecessarily difficult for a 100 level required class. I have never witnessed a professor so untrustworthy of his own students. Not an enjoyable class and I was glad when it was over.
Lectures can get long, but his stories keep it interesting and intriguing. He knows his stuff and is great at explaining it. He is also very understanding and accessible outside of class. Read the textbook and study for tests! Expect participation quizzes in class each day, chapter quizzes, and block exams. He prepares you with materials to study.
Borho was a pretty good prof. If you actually go to lecture and pay attention chances are you'll get a decent grade. Plus, he has some good stories that are fun to listen to. There are tests and quizzes that go with lecture and that is essentially all for assignments. I opened the textbook one time, so I don't think its that necessary.
Borho is what I expected more college professors to be like, very structured and not the most forgiving of mistakes. He is very knowledgeable and teaches the material well, just don't expect to get an A unless you work for it. You don't have to, but I would highly recommend reading the textbook to prepare for class, it does help on the quizzes.
Alan Borho is the most boring professor Ive ever encountered in my life. He is extremely monotone and lectures for the entire class every class. Extremely hard to pay attention and has extremely difficult tests/quizzes without teaching the concepts. He goes on and on with useless tangents and will put you to sleep immediately. Good Luck
One of the better professors at the UND. The class is hard for a 100 level class but you will learn a lot. At the end of the semester he offered us a chance to take a very long quiz that could raise your exam grade up 5% depending on how you did. Attendance is not mandatory but he does offer extra credit at the end if you attended certain days.
Professor Borho may seem a little monotonous and boring at first, but if you enjoy atmospheric sciences, are able to stay focused in class and do the readings outside of class, you will do fine in the class.
Professor Borho's class is just like his name, boring. Given the chance dry jokes and commentary are bound to occur, and his stories do cut the sheer boredom of his lectures. overall, Borho's style may be dry, but he puts in a solid effort to make sure his students pass his class.
Borho is a good professor and he knows his meteorology incredibly well. It is a tough class, but if you pay attention and study you will do well. Don't skip class because every class is a lecture and he gives so much information. He shares many great stories related to weather and aviation. You will learn a lot in his class if you work for it.
Alan has been not only at UND but on this planet for a long time. He is probably the most qualified professor I will ever have as he contributed to the invention of the Doppler radar. He knows what he is talking about but his lectures can be very boring. Go to class, study a little, and maybe read the textbook and you can get an A.
Mr. Borho is the old man that you just want to sit and listen to his stories all day long. He's a UND grad from way back and remembers everything. He knows everything about everything on Meteorology. He wrote responses on every test and quiz question afterward to explain the answer.
One of the best professors I'll probably ever have. He has an extensive experience in the meteorology field that makes this class that much better. Al you're the man!
Everyone loves Borho. You don't need to go to class necessarily to pass but you will want to because he is interesting.
Borho is easily one of the best professors. His lectures are informative and straight to the point, though he will take ten minutes at the start of every class to go over the current and forecasted weather. You are supposed to get a textbook for this class, but I honestly didn't open it once all semester. Definitely take this class with him.
His lectures are long in my opinion. As a person he is super cool and I really enjoyed his storytelling. He has been around, done and seen some things. He has a ton of knowledge, I just don't think is suits a "college professor". His exams are quite lengthy and you have to answer tophat questions randomly throughout class for attendance credit.
Al is a really smart professor and he has a lot of knowledge. I personally just felt like for an intro class to Freshman this class is very difficult. There is a lot of information covered and a lot of test questions. He also doesn't allow you to go back on exams which makes it hard if you get stuck on a question. The labs were easy
