Alan was wonderful every step of the way. He made the capstone process engaging, challenging, and very doable with a minimum of stress. First prof at Capella to give feedback on APA style...stickler for APA, but gives suggestion ever step of the way!
His policies about tardiness are strict as he doesn't accept anything after the deadline, including peer responses. Overall his engagement in the course was excellent and he grades your work fairly. Do NOT be late on anything in his class and you will be fine.
Does not always reply to posts, but is prompt in replying to questions. This was a very interesting course, and I found him to be a good teacher who wants his students to suceed! I would recommend him, and would take another class that he teaches.
I thought Professor Brue was fair and thorough. It was by NO means an easy class and there was a lot of work, but I learned a lot about psychopathology and it was helpful to me in my program of study. He doesn't teach a lot, but I'd take another class from him.
I didn't know a whole lot about diagnosing before I took this class. I think I learned a lot. The textbooks were very good, but you need to pace yourself since there is a lot of reading! This instructor gave very good feedback and answered my questions quickly. I had friends in this class, which made it a whole lot of fun.
Good class. Learned a lot, though I had a similar class as an undergrad. Would recommend this instructor.
Good class but boring text. He was a great instructor and was in the course almost every day, which is unusual. Very helpful when questions arose.
I had to drop this class because of a personal family situation, but I really enjoyed it while I was in it. The professor was very accommodating and giving of his time. He responds to messages within a day or two, which is a rarity for some Capella professors. I have to take this class again and would definitely choose the same professor.
I really liked the instructor but found the texts to be a bit boring. The bad news is that there is a lot of reasing in this class, but the good news is that you end up learning a lot. There are a lot of good cases in the class to help you apply what you learned. It was a big learning curve for me - I haven't had Abnormal Psychology in 26 years!
Very knowledgeable about subject. Would definitely take another class with him again.
Helpful instructor and knows his stuff! Always answered questions in a day or two.
Dr. Brue grades assignments and posts within 24 hours of them being submitted. Extremely curteous, helpful, communicative, and overall a fantastic instructor! Wish I could take him for more classes.
I wish the text were a bit more interesting. Dr. Brue was in class very often and offered personalized responses to students, not a cookie-cutter response. He responds quickly to questions posted or emailed to him. I'd recommend him.
Very helpful. Very good class, though the text was just so-so.
Fair grader. Gives lots of feedback and answers posts/mail quickly. Provides a lot of guidance.
This was a great class with lots of good information. The texts were more difficult than expected at first but they got better and the professor really helped out.
Good, interesting class. Good instructor.
Dr. Brue was great at giving feedback. He was in class several times a week and graded things quickly. I thought his grading was fair. This isn't the most interesting topic but at least he made it as interesting as he could and I did learn a lot.
Dr. Brue responds to questions really fast and is very genuine. He is in class a lot and I liked that.
Really good class. Really good professor. So-so texts.
Excellent professor. Very active in class.
Awesome dude. He is really helpful in answering questions posted in the course. He is really quick at responding. A stickler for APA style, but he is a fair grader and I learned a lot about APA formatting.
What can I say but Dr. Brue is the best! I have had him for several courses and it is always a great experience. He is helpful, supportive, and very informative. Take Dr. Brue you won't regret it.
Very active and involved. Fair grader. Good feedback. Made a dull topic bearable. Would definitely take another course with him.
I learned a lot in this class. There were two texts, but they were very inexpensive. There was a lot of interaction in the class. The professor was always involved and answered his e-mail messages and posted quested quickly, which made it much less stressful!
Great professor! Would recommend him to anyone. Do not need to buy textbook because there is no use for it. Make sure all assignments are on time and you will do great!
Another great class with Dr. Brue! He really brings a lot to class because of his experience. And it makes his classes really interesting.
This was another great class thanks to Dr Brue. He is always in the class and always reviews our stuff quickly, and provides a lot of helpful suggestions.
Definitely take him. Had him for Research Methods last winter quarter. He was awesome!!
Dr. Brue is always a great professor. He is fair with his grading and really teaches you about APA style. He seems to be in his classes almost every day.
Awesome prof!! He even answers his email during the breaks between quarters! Always a good class with him.
I had Dr. Brue a year ago for Research Methods. Now that I am beginning my dissertation, I really appreciate his feedback on the dissertation process and APA formatting. APA formatting was a weak area for me and his detailed feedback helped me a lot. I just didn't realize how much until now!!
This class isn't over for another week but I am amazed at how much I have learned so far!! This is my fourth quarter at Capella and Dr Brue is the best instructor I have had so far. In some other classes I have to wait forever for my grades but he grades everything really fast. He is also fast at answering your questions!!
I liked this class a lot. There were a lot of assignments but Dr. Brue gave a lot of good feedback. I agree with the others that he doesn't make you wait for your grades. He says he will grade things within 72 hours and he does. He is very helpful and supportive if you ask him questions.
This is only my fourth class at Capella and my first with this instructor. I would recommend him any day. I learned a ton because we were kept very busy. I don't know how he is able to give us feedback so fast! I'm not sure if he teaches this course every quarter but you should try and get him. I thought his experience in the schools was helpful.
When I took it it was a really good class. The instructor gave a lot of useful feedback. All of us were worried and he helped us get through it. Would recommend this class, but only with this instructor since I don't know the other instructors who teach Research Methods.
I really thought the instructor did a great job considering the course title led me to believe the course would be boring. It wasn't the most interesting stuff but he answered questions quickly and was in class almost every day. He also graded stuff really fast so that we didn't have to wait for our grades.
Dr. Brue was great. I think he was in the class almost every day or at least it seemed that way. It's the second class I have had with him and he's one of the best ones in Psychology. He really helps you with APA format. Sometimes Capella weights APA formatting pretty heavily. Depends on the class. So this will help you in the long run.
I though I'd hate the class since I had a terrible teacher as an undergrad but I didn't. I liked the interactions that occurred in class with the other learners and the professor. He's really good at explaining things. He definitely made the class worthwhile. The other learners had such varied backgrounds that it made things interesting.
I thought Dr. Brue was great. He came highly recommended from others in my cohort and I can see why. He has high standards, gives a lot of good feedback, grades fairly, grades quickly (in days, not weeks like some others here!!) and is always in the course. I really felt like this was an inperson course and not an online course.
The class isn't even over and I have learned way more than I thought I would for the entire class. The topic can be challenging which is why I'm happy about the case studies. Dr. Brue makes everything really easy to understand. He is really supportive even if you think your question has been asked a thousand times. Sign up to take his classes!!!
Really keeps up in the classes and respoonds to a specific aspect of your post. Helpful when you need something clarified. Quick at grading assignments. It was a very good experience for me.
I won't say this class is easy, but the instructor made it easy by helping you when you needed it. He posts weekly summaries which I liked. He also will return graded assignments really fast like other people here have said. You don't find that with many professors here.
Interesting class. I'm glad it wasn't so focused on statistics. That was my fear. The instructor was excellent! The teaching assistant was helpful.
I had this class with Dr. Brue last quarter. I'm in one of his classes again this quarter because I really like the way he teaches. He is also a fair grader and teaches you a lot about APA style. Everyone liked that he posts several days per week. If we had a question, we knew we'd get a fast answer.
This was my first class at Capella. Dr Brue was great and really helpful. He made a boring class interesting. And he helped me to do better papers.
Dr. Brue was excellent! Research Methods was a lot more work than I anticipated, but I also learned more than I anticipated. I wasn't sure I would get my doctorate, but now that I have finished, research isn't as scary as I thought. Dr. Brue was in the class many times per week and always answered my questions really fast. Get him for 7650.
I've worked as a therapeutic assistant for almost 10 years, so I love psychopathology. I thought this class was very good. Dr. Brue added a lot of good insight by using examples from his work with children and adolescents. Personally, I found this helpful since I want to work with these age groups after I am licensed.
He was a great professor. One of the better ones I have had a Capella. I like that you get feedback each week and don't have to wait forever for your grades. He is really quick with grading.
Like the others said, he is terrific! I think we were in the same section and probably had the same experience. A really good professor. I hope to have him in another class. Take a class with him if you are a doctoral student out to do a dissertation since he knows APA style really well and helps you out A LOT.
I had to drop the class last quarter because of illness but I really appreciated Dr. Brue's helpfulness and support. He responds to posts, emails and assignments quickly. I am going to take him again in Winter quarter if he is teaching the class again.
Excellent instructor!! Very interesting stuff and he really knows about psychopathology. I just wish he also taught the advanced courses.
I agree with the others. An excellent instructor.
There are not many instructors like Dr. Brue. He gives personal responses to everyone. Nothing is canned or repeated to everyone. I really feel like I learned a lot in this class.
Never had him before but he was great. I would take another of his classes because he is so helpful.
I wasn't really that into this class at first because I took a similar one for my B.S., but the professor individualized everything and made the class very interesting. His responses to everyone is different. It isn't a copy and paste response from one learner to another. I'd rate him as awesome.
Dr. Brue is a really good professor. He grades everything fast and gives you detailed feedback so that you can improve your second paper. I would take him again if he taught classes in my specialization.
I did not spend as much time on this course as I would have liked because I work so much. The instructor was great and really worked hard to give us feedback quickly. We did not have to wait long for our stuff to be graded and the grades posted. He is a very fair grader and helps you if you have problems with your writing or learning APA format.
Real good professor, decent class.
I won't repeat what other reviews already said about the professor being quick to respond to messages and being in the class a lot. I found Dr. Brue to be respectful, thorough, helpful, and detailed. He really pushed us to do our best. I felt I really got my money's worth in this class.
I didn't find this class particularly easy but it was very informative. The professor was really helpful with his comments. I had him for a class about two years ago and he good really good then too.
If you are going to take this course you should take it with this professor. He is really helpful and is a fair grader. His sticks to his deadlines which helped me stick to mine and stay on track with my other course.
Definitely one of the best at Capella!!!
Dr. Brue was my ethics & multiculural issues professor. He was very attentive and quick to respond. I really enjoyed the quick turnover on assignments. I have never had an instructor who grades each post shortly after you meet the requirements, as he did. It helped to build confidence and pushed students to be interested in the topic.
This isn't the easiest course at Capella, but Dr. Brue and the teacher assistant helped a lot. Both answered my many questions (and I mean MANY)! I would definitely take the professor again.
Great professor. Fast at grading stuff and returning it to us. Discussion grades are posted each week instead of just three times per quarter.
Very easy going. Grades easy. Willing to help in any way he can. Very approachable. One of the best.
Definitely wants you to succeed. Assignments are graded within a few days. Discussion grades are always posted right after the due date so you know where you stand and nothing is a surprise. I have had this professor for two classes now and classes vary in difficulty, I don't think professors create most of the classes they teach but I don't mind.
The professor was awesome. It was the first time I have had him in the school psychology program. Can't wait for another class!!
Dr. Brue was great. The course was challenging but I felt I learned what I needed to.
Loved the class more than I thought I would.
I had this class two quarters ago. I though the professor did a great job of answering my questions. Some of my peers struggled because they didn't put in the time to do the assignments. There are 4 assignments in this class so you have to plan ahead in order to complete them on time. The professor's feedback was more than fair. I'd recommend him.
Dr. Brue was a very involved instructor for this course. I especially liked how prompt he was in grading weekly posts and assignments. He gave good feedback and would grade the posts early in the week upon completion of the requirements. I finished the course early because of his aggressive attention to coursework. Excellent knowledge level.
This course was a lot of work but my final average was almost 97 and I am happy. You have to do all of your work if you want a good grade. A few of the others in my group said they also will receive an A. He was prompt at grading and I thought he was more than fair. APA feedback was really helpful.
Tests and Measurements is a pretty hard course and it isn't the most interesting class you will take. It is important though and I can see why it is a required course. This professor graded our assignments very quickly and was approachable when I asked for help. He answers email wayyy more quickly than other instructors. I had no complaints!!
Great course! Learned a lot!
I loved the class and I think it will be helpful to me as a future counselor. The quizzes were a bit tricky and there are many of them. The instructor was excellent and gave constructive feedback. I am going to try and take him again next quarter since I know what to expect. This class helped me to maintain my 4.0 GPA with just 3 classes left.
This was the first class I've had where the class was broken up into four smaller groups. I liked the interactions in the smaller groups a lot. Maybe more classes will do the same thing. Dr. Brue completed grading quickly and I always received a grade within a few days. He was very helpful with his comments.
Tough course but I feel really prepared for future classes, including my dissertation research. Consider this course a necessary evil. ;) At least the professor was excellent and made it quite bearable.
I wasn't that into this course because I thought it would be very boring, but I actually really liked it! Like the others have said the professor is excellent and gives you grades quickly without having to wait weeks. He is also very helpful. I met him at a residency this summer and he truly couldn't be nicer.
Great professor. You know where you stand because he posts your grades twice a week. If you do the discussions and a thorough you will get good grade. APA style is important. His feedback is very good. Dr. Brue is a good one to get.
Dr. Brue is an amazing instructor. He gives timely feedback. He participates in discussion boards and is present in the classroom. I would recommend him. I truly enjoyed Research Methods.
I dreaded this class when I signed up for it because I heard Tests and Measurements was really hard. I'm not sure if people just say that or if Prof Brue is especially helpful, but I didn't think it was that difficult and I got an A in the class. He always answered my email messages the day I sent them or at most a day later. That was helpful.
A great experience. I would definitely take this professor again. Assignments take time to complete them right so as long as you are thorough you will do fine in this class.
You can tell this professor has taught this class many times before. He is really knowledgeable about the topic and will help you if you ask him to. I needed a bit of help in understanding the assignments and after a few emails I knew exactly what I needed to do. People may say this course is hard, but I ended up with a high A (97.24 average).
If you have not taken this class as an undergraduate, you will want to read and reread the chapters. It is different material than what I am used to. Prof Brue is a very fair grader and gives a lot of good feedback on APA. I would take another class with him.
This was a tough class but the professor was really good. His deadlines helped keep me organized since there are a lot of assignments. He was really helpful. Definitely recommended!!!!
Dr. Brue was excellent. Always there to answer questions (usually replied within 1-2 hours). Very knowledgeable on the subjects taught in the class. He frequently responded to most discussion posts each week, and his presence in the courseroom was very positive and upbeat. Just the kind of instructor I like to have.
This class is by no means easy but it isn't the hardest. The professor provided a lot of good information to help with the assignments. There weren't too many assignments. His grades were more than fair. Just do the work and don't take any shortcuts. His answers to questions were very helpful. I'd definitely take him again. Seems really nice.
Professor Brue was, as they say in the commercial, awesome-sauce. He really goes out of his way to help you IF you ask him for help. I think some people just took whatever grade and didn't care about learning but he really wants you to learn. I did learn a lot and hope he teaches some of my other psychology courses. You can get an A if you earn it.
I had to drop this class last year to take care of my parents and Dr. Brue was very nice about it. He expressed a great deal of concern for me and my stress level. which I appreciated. Ultimately, I decided to drop the class and took it a quarter later with another professor. Dr. Brue is definitely hard to beat!
Simply the best! Take him if you want to learn in this class. You don't get short-changed. Very helpful.
This class is very different from other classes here at Capella but the instructor kept us updated on the changes and helped us a lot (well, at least me) when I asked him many many questions. A really helpful instructor.
This was a great class. Not the easiest, but I learned a lot and would definitely take another class with Dr. Brue.
I learned so much in this class, especially with my writing style and APA formatting, thanks for Prof. Brue. This really was an integrative project because I integrated so much of what I learned at Capella. It was a great way to wrap up my master's degree.
This was one of the most helpful professors I have had at Capella. Great feedback. Helpful comments. Really wants you to do well.
I was new to research but he makes it easy for you to be successful. He lays everything out there and answers your questions fast and with a lot of detail. I was scared about this class for nothing. Wish he taught classes in my specialization.
Had this class a year ago. Great experience.
This class isn't the easiest but the instructor made it easy to understand. This class requires a lot of work but he is always willing to help.
This course is not my favorite so far but Dr. Brue helped to make it interesting. I slacked off a lot but he really helped to motivate me to get back on track. I was happy to finish with a B but I would not have it if wasn't for his help.
The professor was awesome. I look forward to taking more of his classes I hope.
He's definitely recommended. If you need help he's always there. This class was a little boring but it is research methods so............ ;)
I'd Definitely want to get another class with the instructor. Really accessible and gives prompt feedback. You don't have to wait forever for your grades.
This was one of my last classes at Capella and it turned out to be one of my favorite professors at Capella. Very clear grading criteria and very supportive. Too bad I didn't have him for my other classes. His APA feedback was really really helpful. It will really come in handy if I do a Ph.D.
It takes a lot of reading to understand this material but the professor and the assistant really helped out. I went from almost dropping out with three weeks to go to getting a B because I aced the final project with their help. It was a great experience for me. You have to work at it in this class. This stuff doesn't come naturally!!!!
Dr. Brue is a great instructor. His class is organized well. Assignments are due in weeks 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 so you are not overloaded with work. He responds quickly to questions and graded fairly. He also provides a lot of feedback.
Had this class last quarter. It was a great class and a great professor. I thought I'd hate the class but it wasn't that bad after all.
I finished this class a few days early, got my A, and now I'm about to start my last quarter!!!! The professor was really really good. He is in the class a LOT. He gives a lot of really good feedback especially with APA. Take his class if you want a professor who reads your posts and responds to them every week. I think he is a fair grader.
Good class. Great instructor. There are many instructors who teach this class so you get a chance to pick the ones you want. Dr. Brue was really good.
A great class. I learned a lot more than I thought I would.
Great class. The instructor was helpful and clear with the deadlines and such.
Great everything! Thanks!
Supportive instructor. Not too much work is needed which is good. By this point we just wanna be done! lol
Works for me. Really helpful. Lots of support. Fair grader. Quick grader. Would take again.
Excellent instructor here at Capella. I have had him for three or four classes and this one was my favorite.
Took this class six or seven quarters ago. Great professor.
Great group counseling class. I learned a lot from this instructor.
Fast grader who gives good feedback on APA formatting. Would definitely sign up for another class from this instructor.
Great class and professor! A really good Psy.D. program course.
First, he's a really fast grader. Second, he really wants you to do well. Third, this was a great class. Really interesting. There were a lot of different majors in this class.
Great class and professor!!
LOVED this class and professor. One of the best classes I have taken at Capella.
Great class and professor. It's my second class with him. Two A's but you have to work for it. And I did!!!
This was a really good class. The assignments actually were pretty interesting. The professor gives a lot of really good feedback on the assignments and is in the class a bunch of times per week.
Great class!!!!!! Definitely important for my major. Professor was very good!!!
I signed up for this class and had to drop it in the second week because my work schedule changed but I had this professor a few quarters back. He's a great professor who spends a lot of time giving you feedback. I hope he teaches this class when I sign ups for it again next quarter. He's really good.
Great class and professor. The course is updated and has current content. The professor is very supportive.
I learned lots in this class. The Prof obviously knows his stuff!!!!!!
This professor gives great feedback. This is also a class where you can count on the professor for actually teaching you and providing help at any given time. This professor has a respected reputation at the University and he lives up to it.
Ditto what the last person said although I had a different class. This teacher rocks. I think he's one of the fairest graders I have had -- just get your work in on time and do a good job with APA formatting (oh, he'll help you with that too - no one else has taken the time in my education "career"). Hope he teaches more classes in my major.
Definitely recommended. This is a really good professor. Have had him 3X now...
This class was good and seemed very up to date. I hadn't had this professor until now and wish I had him for more classes. He is very clear with his expectations and gives you good feedback, especially with APA formatting.
This was a really good class. Had this instructor for another class. Would take a third one from him if I could.
A very good class!!!!!!
I really like this course. The professor was excellent. The textbook was good, but I told it during the break. You may want to rent yours.
I just turned in my final project TODAY!!!!!!!! Glad to have that done. This class is a good one and not too tough. Just be sure to read the assignment details. Looking forward to having this prof again. Have had him twice and his grading is fair.
Loved it!!
Great class and instructor! Medium-difficulty assignments. Interesting textbook.
The most caring professor I have ever had!!!!!
Don't take this class if you don't want your writing and creativity challenged. Long papers, but well spaced and assignments well planned for effectiveness. He is very caring and accomodating, I got my first ever disability letter whilst taking his class and he was very supportive. I learned a lot and recommend.
Challenging but rewarding class. Thoroughly enjoyed the engaging lectures and well-designed assignments. unstuck ai was a great study aid alongside the textbook. Would definitely take again.
