Tough but excellent. Knows material thoroughly. Friendly, helpful.
Very tough but knows what he is doing.
great teacher, but the materials tough
One of the better profs at WSU. The course is hard & expect plenty of reading & homework. He will help willingly. Has good sense of humor. Stops to answer questions during lectures. Grades class as a whole. Impartial.

Absolute worst professor at Wright State. Ask 95% of people who have taken him. Does not teach material. Unbelievably dry. Appearance is a disgrace as well.
Not the easiest teacher I've takeen, but he's fair and at least he tries to be funny
very nice guy once you get to know him. classes are challenging but half credit can get you a B or an A if you try.
Mr. Chesen puts forth a real effort and truly cares about the students. Just like any class, if you put forth the effort, you will learn.
Class was hard, but he made it bearable. Good sense of humor
Degree of Freedom Fighters!
Definitely one of the more difficult professors I have had thus far, however he ensures that the students KNOW the material, so be prepared for detailed and difficult tasks. I willing registered for his two of his classes, both met with great success.
The hardest class you could ever have, you have to bust your ass just to get a d
very good teacher, just need to study like hell for his tests to pass. no curve, but you'll learn a lot
Very difficult. Hard to understand lectures, must learn material on your own out of book. A good grade is possible if you work very hard. He's quirky and tries to be funny, so he's amusing. But only take him if he's the last resort.
Jeez! This guy was a complete jackass! You would go ask him a question and instead of him helping you, he'd lead you farther away from the answer! You need to know how to work your calculator in order to get the test done ON TIME!! DON'T TAKE THIS GUY!!!!
Lectures were clear, concise and extremely helpful in learning the material. Tests are a little too long for the time frame they are given in. Overall, this is a teacher that is worth taking.
Fantastic instructor with genuine interest in respecting with contrasting viewpoints. He is a demanding teacher, but usually the good ones are. I would highly suggest this gentlemen.
He's difficult but always willing to help. Answers emails promptly. I did half ass work and still managed to get a B. I'd recommend taking him for any statistics course!
You need a LOT of good luck on your side if the average grade on a final is below 50...:o
Very helpful. Tests are hard but if you study you will be fine. know how to use the calculator!
Good professor. Very willing to help. But is stuck on his ideas, so he will not budge when it comes to things. But he is very willing to help explain and go over hw/tests when you go to see him.
if you are good at math this teacher is ok, but if you are a student that needs someone to teach you then this guy is not for you. His lectures are unclear and I mostly had to read and study the material myself in order to understand it.
Extremely difficult. Not willing to help. He really needs to improve his teaching skills.
If you are mathematically impaired, like myself, then please avoid. Your GPA will thank you for it.
This class isnt as bad as Ms 205, but its difficult. Avoid at all costs
I loved MS205 class. It was difficult, but if you know what you're doing, you are fine. His test are long and little bit hard, but as i said, if you understand the materials, you will be ok. I definitely would recommend him for MS205/204.
Excellent Teacher, He is a little demanding, however you will know the material when you leave the class. Does a very good job of explaining the material. I definitely learned a lot from him. If you dont mind working a little he's an excellent professor.
Not a bad teacher, accept he doesnt help as much as he should,,, likes the sound of his own voice, u better know math, its demanding.
He is very hard. You have to be good at memorizing exactly what he wants as an answer and study a lot! He isn't always clear on what is going to be on the test. The homework he gives really helps and its normally not too hard, but you have to go to class to do well at all.
Willing to help in what ever way possible. Just go see him during office hours.
The class was boring but he was willing to help if there is something you can't understand his test are hard but fair
So Hard! cannot count how many times i was confused in one class period!
Mr. Chesen enjoys the sound of his own voice way too much. He seems to have a huge chip on his shoulder. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IN THE SUMMER!! Study a lot and you will do okay. Homework takes a long time and has nothing to do with the tests.
His class sucked.
This teacher just does not give a !?!?. I went into office hours & I told him I just didn't know how to start the problem & he said he couldn't help me??? What kind of a teacher is that?? He had an article hanging in his office about him being the best instructor like in Ohio or something. I can't believe that!! He is such an ass. I switched majors b/c of him. Like others said, if you don't understand what he wants you're**** out of luck.
Chesen is a nice guy but should not be teaching. I struggled in this class and everyone barely passed with a D. Please consider another teacher!
holy cow he goes fast in class. let me tell you it is HARD..all of these ratings gave me the wrong impression. i like stats and study a lot. i got a "C" and i studied about 7hrs. a week. tough computer assignments too.
He's a tough teacher, but he covers everything well. There's nothing on the test that you haven't seen in class. I had no problem getting an A on every test.
tough teacher! You need to be very specific on tests, or he will dock points. I am an A student, I knew how to do everything on every test, but never once got an A because he likes to take off points for stupid things.
Seemed like he tried to fail people. Gave test that were impossible to complete within the time limit. Take Court for 205 if you can!
Good Prof!! Learned a LOT and he was very helpful!! Moves fast, but as long as you go to class you will be fine!
QUIRKY TEACHER, TOUGH EXAMS AND PROJECTS AND HW.
Crazy...Knows how to teach, but his class is very hard. Make sure you know everything that is covered because on the tests you have to know it or you will not be able to complete it in time. HW assigments are hard. If you can study at least 5 hours a night you will be fine.
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Yuck. Horrible course, Horrible teacher. Who's worse? Watson or Chesen? Heh. The irony is, either way, you have to take this class, so suck it up and just get through it. This course is a challenge for most, and requires a lot of study time. If you can manage to take this class with Polak, DO SO!
Go to class at all cost. He goes through examples that ultimately end up on the test. Helpful and understanding, but the overall class was hard...tough to bs it. He breathes stats, that's the only way I can put it.
Very smart guy but goes off on a lot of tangents. I prefer teachers to use PowerPoint, but he used the overhead the whole class. He has high expectations - watch out for multiple choice questions on his tests... they're tough. All in all, I liked him and learned a lot, but I would take Polak if you can!
I thought that he was one of the better teachers in the MBA program. I have heard that he is harder on the undergrads, but I really enjoyed him. Yes, he is very oppinionated, but I repected that about him. He knows who he is, at least. He isn't the easiest teacher, but he was quite fair.
GO TO CLASS! Study nothing but what he uses as examples in class. He is a loudmouthed jerk, but a good teacher of a complicated (I think) subject. He is annoying, but logical, and that earned my respect. Didn't quite get an A, but was happy with the help he gave me.
Class is hard. You need to go everyday and TAKE NOTES. Do the bookwork to keep up whith whats going on in class. The homework is easy points and he will help you if you need it. Take advantage of it. He also has a real dry sense of hummor.
Expains concepts well but tends to ramble and get off topic, refuses to let class out early, work is hard and you have to study a lot
Nice guy, good person...However, as a professor he is way too hard. Takes off points for every little thing, and goes through the material too fast. Try to avoid.
Great teacher! Very interesting! Lots of notes and the tests are straight from the notes. The tests are a bit hard though. If you study and pay attention you should do alright.
I think Dr. Chesen is great. He does tend to get off topic sometimes, but in a 3-hour class, it's almost a needed break. Tests the course I'm in are take home and long. But I got a 98% on the first one. You just have to STUDY like anyone would for any class. Lots of notes, book doesn't get used much. Forgiving on quiz grades - would take him again!
This class is the worst class I have ever taken. I have never taken a class the was almost impossible to pass even with studing for it three hours a day. Aviod this teacher at all costs.
Mr. Chesen is a good professor. His class is hard yes, but this isn't high school anymore. The dude that said he switched majors because of mr. Chesen probably didn't like his major much if he switched because of 1 class. Hard class but put some time into it and you will do fine.
Go to class and take good notes. He is available outside of class and will meet with you. Homework assignments are done on the computer. Exams are only a couple questions but very in depth. Pay attention and study and you'll do fine.
Do not be afraid of taking him as a prof. This class is not as bad as people make it out to be.He gives examples of every type of problem you will be asked in class. Homework assignments are easy.He will bend over backwards to help anyone, as long as they just ask for it. I didn't study much for the class, and still got very high A's on the exams.
This is a hard class, but not impossible. If you are an A average you should expect a B. The class is do-able but hard. He can teach, but grades like HARD!
By far one of the best professors at WSU. Homework assignments are easy and help you understand the concepts. Tests are not hard either. Go over the examples he gave in class and look over a few problems in the book. If you do this, you can guarantee a good grade in the course. I would take any class being offered by this professor.
GOOD PROFESSOR, BUT VERY HARD CLASS. YOU SHOULD BE REALLY SMART ENOUGH TO GET GOOD GRADES, BECAUSE TOUGH EXAMS AND YOU MAY RUN OUT OF TIME TO COMPLETE ALL PROBLEMS. HIS EXPECTATIONS ARE VERY HIGH, AND ALWAYS FORGET THAT WE ARE JUST LEARNERS. IF YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT YOUR GPA PLEASE AVOID HIM. SO THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY AFTER EXAMS.
he was a very complicated teacher. i would not recommend taking him, if someone else is teaching it, i would opt for that person. really his success rate for students passing with a c or higher is lower than 50%.
Look-- This class is not easy, nobody can say it is, with that being said I cant imagine anyone being a better teacher than Chesen. I studied my butt off, participated in the class, went to his office hours and I earned an A. You HAVE to put in some effort and write your explanations EXACTLY like he does! Do all of this and you will be just fine
Do not take this professor for a night class. He kept us well past 9:25 and would often just be rambling/mumbling. He said attendance didn't count, yet he took attendance before class and after break to see who had left. His tests took over 2 hours of a night class for some people, then he'd have class after the test! I couldn't stay awake.
The coursework is not easy, but I was less than interested. The class is required for any business major. Chesen has a dry sense of humor, but if you are doing your best and making every effort he will help you! If you don't try don't even ask for help.
He's so helpful and nice. He makes an effort to make sure that his students thoroughly understand his material before tests and computer assignments. I did really well in this class and think that with some dedication and studying, anyone can. Honestly, if you're a business major, this should be easy for you. If not, consider a different major.
Very good teacher, subject is hard but he completely tells you what is on the test so if you study what he says then you will do well on the test.. its not that difficult.
Very nice and helpful. Projects and homework can be overwhelmingly frustrating at times, but he was always available to point you in the right direction. One of the few teachers who actually wants you to succeed even though the curriculum can be intense. Be sure to square away problem areas early - they tend to carry over to the next test.
Ok so I was terrified to take him because of all of the horror stories I've heard. He actually isn't that bad. Just pay attention - ask questions - go to class, all of them. Keep up and you'll be fine. No much reading in the book, just lots of note taking. Keep up with him and you'll be fine...
Sit up front. He tends to start of talking loudly and as the sentence begins to end - you can barely hear him.
Subject Matter was difficult, however Prof. Chesen was very helpful and VERY approachable in his office for help... if you didnt mind the clutter. Real nice guy and since you have to take this class as a Business Major... get him!
Very helpful and is always willing to answer any questions. Pay really good attention and do not skip classes because his tests are very difficult and he does not curve or ever give extra credit. Nice guy, very difficult professor!
the guys weird, rude, and worst of all VERY DIFFICULT. goofy and always looks like he is about to fall asleep. he even made fun of a foreign student who didtn speak english very well. so dont expect much from him in his office hours, met with him and he is even more ackward outside of class. makes the class MUCH harder than it needed. take COLEMAN
Why do people give this man such low ratings? This is the first class at Wright State that I felt was at the college level. His tests are super hard if you don't study, but, if you do study, they are not too bad. There are a lot of notes taken in class. Grades consist of 3 tests and homework that is done on Excel. I got an "A" and you can too!
If you put in the work, this class is not that bad. Pay close attention to how he wants things explained, because that is where you are going to miss points, even if all the work is correct.
Very good professor. Grades very hard, but take notes in class word for word what he says, get his format down and you will do fine. Explain your answers how he wants or you will lose points. Seems unfair but he tells you this so it's not a surprise. Great class, Easy A for me. But I did what he said, and not many people like to.
He does not give good examples and his lectures are unclear. If you ask him a question about the homework he tells you to check your notes.
The class isn't difficult. I do however despise Chesen's teaching style and find him utterly obnoxious. It takes Chesen 20 minutes to explain a topic that he could have succinctly stated in one sentence, his writing is illegible, and he rants about irrelevant material--I put headphones on during a boring rant and he yelled at me. Coleman!
This class is hard! Pay attention and write everything he says down because the smallest missed detail could be deterimental and he doesnt highlight what important details are. Get a tutor and go to office hours, you may feel confident now but just wait until the first test, best to be proactive and get a tutor before you fail the first test
Show up to class and do a lot of extra work on your own. The class is difficult no matter who is teaching it and sometimes his lectures and long-winded and filled with useless stories.
If you thought coleman got off topic and talked so much that your mind was forced to daydream, well this guy is that but times 3.. its hard and he makes it harder. this class could be taught in 4 weeks but ms teachers love to talk instead of doing examples. take with a friend is my best advice. God speed..
Lectures were very boring and did not help much at all for the tests. His horrible hand writing and boring lectures make it nearly impossible to get anything out of a class. It isn't incredibly difficult though if you spend some time with the textbook. Know the material covered in the computer assignments, the tests are made up of similar problems.
Hard class, but Chesen is willing to help any student who makes effort. Go to class, read the book and show interest in your grade and you will be ok. He cares about his students and is always available to help. He follows the book and does examples from it that are similiar to test problems.
Make your life a lot easier by attending every class. It's true that Prof. Chesen do talk a lot during classes, but he also explains everything you need to know in a very clear and detailed manner that you will not need to use the text book if you attend classes and pay attention. He solves a lot of problems in class which are similar to the exams.
He goes over problems that you'll see on the test. The study groups helped a lot because at least half of the time I was clueless in class. This class definitely required some study time. Chesen likes to ramble on sometimes.
One of my favorite prof. Chesen cares about the success of his students. He wants you to do well. Pay attention and take organized notes in class, test questions are very similar to those he goes over in class.
Mr. Chesen is not as tough as he may seem--he is actually quite generous. He explains all concepts clearly and logically. Mr. Chesen's class is one of the few classes at WSU that have made me feel like I was taking a college level course. Take advantage of the extra credit he gives for submitting assignments early.
Had him for the graduate level statistics class. Quizzes are extremely difficult even though you understand the material. When 90% of a graduate class scores a failing grade on the first 2 quizzes, something isn't right... Tests were pretty easy but did not like teaching style. lots of calculations that he later says you don't need to kno
Not good in teaching.
Excellent professor! For math- or statistic-minded people, he has a very rational teaching style and great personality. Unfortunately, this is a core business class and you can tell that many students don't get some of his references or humor or understand the application of the material. For geeky math people like me it was a very enjoyable class.
He was all over the place. Loved to get on soap boxes, while trying to seem like he wasn't. His tests were difficult, but doable. He had quizes every class which were brutal (think mini classes). He would drift off into topics that had nothing to do with the class. Very little applicability or tie-in to the world of business.
He is one of the best professors I know at WSU. I would recommend him. He was straight forward of what he expected from you. If you are unsure ask questions or see him in office hours.Take advantage of the SI.
As far as teaching the material goes, he's fine. I just constantly found myself wanting to throw a book at his head. He says in 20 words what could have been said in 2. ALL THE TIME. Just makes everything drag on and on. Also, consistently rude, but I don't know if he knows he comes off that way? Otherwise, fair teacher, tests aren't hard.
Grades 75% on tests (5 noncummulative) and 25% computer assignments. Uses attendance only if borderline. Tests are all written lengthy problems but I failed 2 and and got low B's on the rest and still managed a B in the class. He has a dry sense of humor but class is bareable
Dry sense of humor (loved it). Straight forward with tests/homework and easy to approach in person or e-mail. Cares that you learn. Class is not easy, don't miss class and go to SI. I got a B and it's not that hard to get one if you just put SOME time into it. Don't be intimidated cause of his humor
Extremely good business statistics professor. Granted I did take AP Stats in highschool, but he was very clear on what he expected on exams. Best advice, just attend class frequently, and work the problems he reviewed in class from the textbook.
He teaches the subject very well and is willing to help you out if you try. He does take attendance so plan to be there every class. He can be monotonous at times, but has a sense of humor.
He is all over the place. Loves talking about his age like we care. The tests were difficult and poorly written. He would drift off into topics that had nothing to do with the class. Very little applicability or tie-in to the world of business.
Average 80min class was over 1 maybe 2 problems for 50min. Then 30min of tangents not related to Statistics at all. His tests are difficult, if you do not study a couple hours for his tests expect to fail. Computer assignments are difficult as well. With no supplemental instruction or tutors this semester, his class is extremely tough. Be prepared!
I had to drop his class. Computer assignments were not only hard and confusing, they were graded by someone else. He/she was taking points off for a smallest thing with the vengeance. I'm going to check out other colleges. Department do not provide TA or tutors or any other help, waste of money.
Not an easy class by any means. I feel he would be a much better teacher if he would be more approachable and not as rude. He explains things once and do not expect multiple examples or a professor who will go out of their way to teach. Looking for an easier route? Sinclair Community College offers this class.
First off, rude. Second, do not email him asking for clarification on a problem dealing with the tests or the homework assignments, he will just confuse you more. The final is ridiculous, had no idea what to expect, and I did decent on the other tests. A good amount of people were there when the time was up, and he gave us an extra 15 minutes.
His class is not easy, GO to office hours. make sure you see him if you have questions. He may come off as rude but he means well. He generally likes people.
He rambles on way too much and his assignments take at least two hours to complete and its always hard to expect what will be on his test. I wouldn't recommend taking him.
He can't teach and his office hours like a circus. He talks about anything except statistics. I am not taking his 2050 in WS. Found a sweet deal on line, run, save your money, spare an aggravation.
Absolute worst professor at Wright State. Ask 95% of people who have taken him. Does not teach material. Makes us stay over after class and unbelievably dry. Appearance is a disgrace as well.
Lectures were very boring and did not do much at all for the tests. He has very bad hand writing and goes way too fast His boring lectures make it nearly impossible to get anything out of a class. Computer assignments are way too long, confusing, and the tests are made up of similar problems. Defiantly take someone else if you can.
He is very rude. Do not email him and asking for clarification on a problems on the tests or the homework assignments. He will confuse you even more. The final is ridiculous, had no idea what to expect. I did ok on other tests. A lot of people were there when the time was up. Run! Save your GPA!
I should have dropped this class when I had the chance. Chesen is probably the worst professor I've ever have had. His lectures run over class time and it was very hard to understand him, everything he says sounds like a legal document. Studying the book for exams will not help you at all. Only way to pass is memorize everything he writes and says.
condescending, rude, confusing, and disrespectful, tries to appear genuine when he isn't. unless you know you are good in Statistics, run!
He tells you everything you need to know for the exams; no guessing game. You HAVE to go to class and take notes. The book is not a great asset. I earned a 98% and I haven't taken the first stats in 5 years! It isn't intuitive to me either. Write down what he writes down, ask him for clarification if need be (very helpful), study, easy A.
Grades on tests and on computer assignments. Uses attendance. Tests are written very confusingly, with lengthy problems and a lot of typos. He has no sense of humor with unbearable pronunciation. He says things like he still leaves in 2 centuries ago. Definitely was the worst class of my semester. I wish more people would share info! Stay away!
He's okay. However, his lectures are very dry and wordy. He'd probably get his point across more clearly if he used more example problems in class. The lengthy homework wasn't helpful in understanding the subject at all, either... I recommend studying for tests by working more problems from the book. Take advantage of SI if it's available.
Make sure to attend every class and take good notes so you can learn how to format answers for test questions. Study for tests by reworking problems from the textbook and trying others. Class was pretty boring at times, but overall, he's a good teacher with reasonable expectations.
The instructor taught me nothing, many times he talks about things not relevant to the subject. I cannot express how happy I am to never have to sit through on of Chesen lectures ever again. He is an AWFUL teacher.
Class was over 1.5. 1 maybe 2 problems for that time. Then tangents not related to Statistics at all. His tests are difficult expect to fail. Computer assignments are difficult as well and on paper. what a joke!
If you pay attention in class, you will be fine. Ask Questions!!! He will assume he understand everything if you don't stop him. 5 tests of semi-equal value will decide your grade. Study the notes very hard because the tests come straight from them. He also is very good at responding to e-mails quickly.
Mr. Chesen isn't nearly as bad as everyone tried to warn me. If you take his notes and do your homework this class can be very easy. He is determined to have you learn the material, not just plug and chug. This class requires some work outside of class but not hours upon hours of studying. Seriously, review notes before tests and you'll be fine
Lectures are boring, not help much at all for the tests. His horrible hand writing, boring lectures make it impossible to get anything out of his class. Everything on paper! What a joke! He isn't good at teaching! Grading system is shady. We wasted our time in his class and our grades(my friend and I) this semester will be not good, thanks to him!
He is one of the worst teachers I have EVER had! He is extremely confusing during lecture... you might as well go to class for the attendance grade write down the main topics he discusses and then teach yourself with youtube videos
Okay, many on here put helpfulness at a 1. But in reality if you go talk to this guy one on one, as quirky as he is, he gives good pointers and will take time to explain things to you. Go to class and take good notes! All exams are modeled directly from the homework, which takes a long time, but do well on the homework and your good for exams.
Chesen is a special type of professor and he teaches stats like it should be taught. Yes, the lectures get long and repetitive but he goes over every type of problem (by hand) multiple times and the exam questions are straight from the notes. Take good notes and its an easy A.
His lectures are boring, not help much at all for the tests. He has a horrible hand writing and very very annoying voice. These boring lectures make it impossible to get anything out of his class. His class is a joke! Everything on paper! He isn't good at teaching as well. Grading system is very shady. Take this class in Clark!
I needed this class as a major requirement and will be taking it again in the Fall semester with a different professor. The material is challenging and tough to understand. Chesen has terrible hand writing and does not clearly explain the material. He is a nice person and offers assistance but could stand to go over how the material is taught.
While Chesen has a good mind for the topic of statistics, he is not the greatest at helping his students understand it. It's important to have a laptop with you in class. He uses phSTAT for the course. If you ask where a number comes from he'll likely say "It's in the handout". Try to take the class with a friend, there is mandatory group homework
You must study for the class. Going to the SI really helped. He tells you exactly what he wants you to write on tests though.
4 groups project (take hours to do, but get to choose your partner), 4 exams. Very helpful! Really wants to help you
Lectures would make sense if you already know the material, but doesn't do well at clearly explaining so we can LEARN the material. I learned more by just reading the book on my own. Make you explain things HIS way on tests and homework. He is very nice though and willing to help, but will usually tell you that answers are in the handouts/book.
Avoid. He makes simple things hard to comprehend. Safe your GPA! Pay a tenting to the negative feedback - they are all true.
He was literally the worst teacher ever. He makes you use formulas for the tests for things that are usually calculated with microsoft excel, the explains things so terribly, makes everything wayy harder than it is! AVOID AVOID AVOID!
His test are really long and are almost impossible to get an A on and he is surprised if someone does. If you need help he will no help you he will tell you to go talk to his TA. He does not grade the homework the TA does, but he grades the test. Just listen to everyone and do not take him! The test take 2 or so weeks to be graded!
Good professor, knows his material very well. Pay attention and you will succeed. Is lenient with grades at the end of the semester if attendance is good.
Tests are outrageously long and lecture is a snooze fest. You have to choose a partner at the beginning of the semester to complete homework assignments with.
Tests are very long and most people don't complete in time, however they are not that hard. Just pay attention in class and take great notes and you should be find. The assignments are easy, just start on them ahead of time (go to the TA for help!). For exams, use the assignment to study (they will be similar) and his in-class example problems.
He is a good professor and I would take again. Some students giving him a bad rap. Just study the material you'll be fine
He does not explain the material very well. No matter how well do you on the homework if you don't pass the exams you will fail. exams are worth 75% and homework which is extremely difficult is only 25%. Don't take this professor and his lectures are very boring most students fall asleep. do not take this professor. he ruined my gpa
This is a hard class but Chesen makes it possible. You have to pay attention and ask questions when you need to. There is extra help outside of the class which is very beneficial. He is a great guy and he cares about his students but you have to do the work.
His exams are long but if you study for them they're easy. He gives partial credit on exams so if you're not sure about something, answer the best you can and he'll credit you for it. He gives homework assignments you have to partner up with someone to complete. Nice guy, can be long winded in lectures. Be sure to ask questions if you're confused.
HORRIBLE. only take if you absolutely have too. and be ready. also make sure you have a good partner alot of group work.
A very nice guy who will take an interest in you and your success in his class if you show that you care about the material and your grade. The negative reviews seem to come from people who did poorly and can't accept responsibility for their grade. A good idea to read the chapters before lectures.
I would take Alan Chesen again if I had the chance. I loved him as a Prof. His hw was tough, but if you take notes of everything he says and writes on the board in class, you will do extremely well on tests. If you have any questions at all, he will help you! Go to his office hours. He wants you to pass. One of the top Profs at WSU.
Worst professor I've ever had. What he does in class does not prepare you for his exams.
Chesen does not make attendance a grade but if he sees that you put the work in and attend class he will be more lenient at the end of the course. He is very helpful outside of class, responds to emails fairly quickly. As long as you pay attention and put in the work should not be a difficult class.
Chesen is a great professor. He comes off as a rude guy but its just his personality. Write everything down that he writes on the board and study the group assignments to prepare you for the exams.
He will get off topic several times throughout his lectures and talk about random things and give his opinion on those random things, making it extremely difficult to pay attention to the lecture. Our test grades were so bad that he gave us a random letter grade of extra credit and he would not tell us the class average. Textbook is needed to pass.
He comes off super rude in the beginning but if you talk to him, he will talk to you. It is MR. CHESEN or PROFESSOR CHESEN, he will make that clear to you. His tests are quite long and you have to work pretty fast to finish them. Be smart in picking a partner to do your homework assignments with, as you are with that individual all year.
Mr. Chesen is a fantastic Professor! If you enjoy math and applying real concepts you can use, you will enjoy this class as much as I did. All I heard while in this class was complaining from other students. Yes, the material is difficult and involves a lot of THINKING. Which is something young adults today seem to think they can avoid! I loved him
He brings humor to the room. He will help you understand the content during class and after hours. His homework assignments can be difficult, but he will help assist you if you ask.
I think Chesen gets a lot of heat for his dry personality. He is probably the best option at WSU if you have to take a stats class. The team assignments were kind of annoying, as they felt a tad bit overboard, but it was good material to study for the test. Honestly, go to class, take notes, and study your team assignments and you will get a B.
You have to choose a partner and you are stuck with them for the rest of the semester. Tests are way too long and everyone at my table failed. Homework isn't too bad, but I had to teach myself the material by reading the book. Lectures are the worst thing in the world. Please save yourself and avoid this professor.
He will not grade any of your work in a timely manner, be ready to hear all about his shirts and nothing about Stats, and his exams are not in the same formats that the homework or his lectures are set up in--teaches how to do everything on the computer, but has paper tests.
Very nice man who is willing to help. You MUST show up for class and write down EVERYTHING that is on the board. Every small detail matters. This class requires a lot of effort and thinking. Good luck.
Overall a good professor just extremely difficult. 3 exams and 5 HW, exams are weighted at 75% of the grade and HW at 25% so if you slack off and don't study for exams you will fail. Does not want you to fail and will help out as much as he can to an extent. Be ready for a challenge but will learn a lot.
The exams are difficult, but if you study and go to the review sessions you have a good chance at doing well. The homework assignments are done with a partner chosen at the beginning of the semester that you cant change later, so choose wisely! He is the lesser of two evils from the stats department, so not the worst but also not great.
Although attendance isn't worth a grade, he will take it each class. All homework assignments must be done with a partner that is chosen the first week of class, choose wisely. 3 tests and 5 homeworks, he doesn't curve, but he does give partial credit on tests, which is nice. Lectures are pretty boring, but he does show important concepts.
Avoid taking any class with this professor at all cost. He is an absolute nightmare. He will frequently go on tangents in lecture that have no relevance to the material, hardly ever sticks to his own power point, and is incredibly rude to students. I attended class regularly, did all the HW, had a tutor, and still struggled through this course.
He is a great professor, yes his test are very hard and his homework will take you alot of time to do but you will actually learn something. I have took him for stats 1 and 2 and i would definitly take him again if i was given the opportunity. You just have to being willing to put fourth some effort!
Makes it extremely hard to focus. He gets off topic easily and starts rambling about how you shouldn't gamble. Not kind when answering questions about something he has "taught". He will use the board behind the computers he stands by but refuses to lower then so you can only see half of the board. If it weren't for SI, people would not be passing.
Avoid taking it if possible! The further the semester goes on, the harder it is to understand what he is teaching. The class has 3 exams each 25% of the grade and 5 homework 25% of grade Takes attendance but doesn't actually take it out of your grade. Very hard grader, and can be rude to students. Recommend taking the class somewhere else.
Be careful when choosing Alan for statistics. He teaches the material in his own way and never uses the textbook, so at least you won't have to buy that. His homework (worth 25%) and tests (worth 75%) are no walk in the park. Make sure to attend every class because if you skip class then you will fall behind very rapidly. Take it somewhere else.
the worst professor I've ever had. I took him for 2040 and had to take him again for 2050 because sadly he was the only professor teaching the class. He takes off points in explanations because it's not exactly how he would have said it. he is the absolute worst.
every assignment is with a partner. I had him in a online course and he did not have any lectures. Isnt clear with what he wants in the assignments so you have to go with your gut. Please avoid taking this class.
