I was deathly afraid of math before I took this class. Mr. Chow made learning the material fun. I can highhly recommend him for anyone with math anxiety. (By the way, he is not foriegn and dosen't have an accent!)
Al is very laid-back. He understands math from the students' viewpoint even though he's a doctoral candidate. He's willing to help by phone or e-mail, and he doesn't keep you waiting. I've not taken a math course in over 30 years, but I'm making an A in this, and taking PreCalc Algebra with him nxt.
This is really a great class to take with Al. I highly recommend him if you need to take this class!
If you have a fear of math, take Al's class. He's a great teacher and a lot of fun!
His class was super easy and he's incredibly helpful. He will work with you as much as possible to make sure you turn in homework, understand tests, etc. He's not the best teacher as far as learning the actual material but you'll definitely make a good grade. His tests are very easy. I'm taking him for MGT 325 (Operations MGT)
easy but you must study on your own or you might not get it. ask him if u need any help
easiest simplest math teacher i ever had (this is coming from someone who took her math grad exam 4 times in high school b4 she passed)
Chow is pretty cool and very laid back but he sucks as a teacher. Be prepared to sit and watch long power points. What got me was that its a math class and on the first test he had done 0 example problems. Tests are fairly easy but dont expect to learn it from him doing example problems.
HE was a great teacher! I learned a lot in his class, but not too much as to feel overloaded!
Easy, easy, easy! That's the only way to put it! He is so simple and we only covered 4 chapters the entire semester. Need an easy A, sign up today. He does get off track with his/students' personal lives, but there is time to do so because he doesn't cover much material. He even gives reviews before every test that are exactly like the test.
Mr. Chow's class is really EASY! He's a great teacher. Just know the study guide & you'll have an *A*! For those who HATE Math ~> take CHOW! :)
Chow is the best teacher you can have for math! If enough students don't come to class (which he actually doesn't like happening) then he sends the class home! I payed no attention during class and made a B!
He is a great teacher. He is very understanding. He gives a lot of information. I would recommend him as a teacher to anyone.
Here's your chilli pepper Mr. Chow =) !!!! Overall he was a great teacher. Very understanding and cares about the students. Has a good sense of humor and keeps the class fun. I would definately recommend taking him!
He is good.
Great class and super nice guy! Gives pretty good examples that you can relate to in real life. Uses powerpoint notes that you print off line for class. Tests are all multiple choice and a cakewalk if you study. Just read parts of the chapter & all of the powerpoint notes and you'll do fine.
Great instrutor! Class was not easy but he helps you alot.
He is a great teacher! I suck at math but he made sure I knew what was going on. Very helpful and understanding.
Great teacher. Corny sense of humor, but entertaining nonetheless. Extremely reasonable workload/homework. Tests are pretty straightfoward. Gives opportunity for some extra credit points as well. Go to class, pay attention, and do the homework and you should be just fine.
In the beginning he used powerpoint a lot. I'm the type of person who can't stay focused when just staring at powerpoint. Overall he's a pretty good teacher. Lots of homework assignments that can make or break you. Gives a fair amount of extra credit. Outside study sessions before tests, lots of sarcasm and dry humor which makes it interesting
I am taking Mr. Chow now and I LOVE HIM!!! He is the best math teacher ever...not cause he teaches me anything that I don't already know but he keeps my interest. If you have a chance you should really teach him. MA 110 is super easy but he just makes it fun!
Depends on powerpoint slides EVERY day. Gets sidetracked all the time and ends up wasting valuable class time. Nice professor but it's really hard to learn from powerpoint since it involves numbers.
AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE AN ALRIGHT CLASS. HE STARTED OFF REALLY FUNNY BUT HAS BEEN COCKY LATELY. HIS TEST ARE EASY IF YOU DO THE STUDY GUIDE, BUT BE PREPARED TO TEACH YOURSELF. HE DOES NOT GO OVER THE SAME MATERIAL TWICE SO YOU BETTER PAY ATTENTION THE FIRST TIME! OTHER THAN THAT VERY EASY! JUST GO TO CLASS!!!
Pretty easy class, he really focuses on the stuff he's actually going to test on. Study the power points and you should do fine.
Took him for 245 & 255. He is a WONDERFUL teacher! Tests come from powerpoints, gives lots of extra credit, & wants you to do well. Take Chow!
never seen a professor like this, crystal clear in wht he says, real fun in the class.
Best teacher at South Alabama. All you have to do is attend class.
Great TEACHER!! He does alot of experiments/studdies on how students learn in relation to how they test,so he is very interested in seeing his students succeed and truley learn. His lectures are the key. If you just show up and pay attention then you shouldn't even have to study for the tests, that's how awesome of a teacher he is.
He was such an aweful teacher. Why does he feel that reading the power points teaches the students anything?! We are sophomores in college... we can read! I do not recommend this class to anyone! Take Retzlaf-Roberts!
cool instructor! Had him for Stats. He knows his subject and gets the point across clearly. If you're unclear, he's in his office for help. Holds very helpful exam reviews on Sun. nights, and pretty much covers the necessities of the course out of the book. tells stories and cracks jokes. Gives E.C. for going to ballgames and good attendance.
EXCELLENT teacher. Best I've had. I am taking every class he teaches!!!
ONe of the best teachers I have had. He gives great reviews before the tests and will help you in anyway you can. He will admit that he is ADD, so it is very easy to get him off of subject.
Wonderful teacher! I recommend him to all of my friends. Without his additional help and support my grade would have suffered
pretty easy, good guy, outlaw leader, cooked chicken for baseball game for students, gives ex attention to students. g kyser
Mr. Chow was a great teacher. His test were fair and similar to his study guide. He gives bonus points for going to one game during the semester and if you don't miss more than one day in his class you get a 2% increase on your final grade. TAKE CHOW
class is challenging, but it's an enjoying kind of challenge. Chow is AWESOME...absolutely LOVE him as my teacher. when it came time to register for the next class, his classes filled up SOOOO fast. TAKE HIM if you can!!!
Mr. Chow is a great teacher. He lets you know what it going to be on the test and is very funny. He is laid back and will help you if he can. He offers bonus points for attending a certain aporting event on campus and also gives you bonus points if you do not miss more than once class. I would take him again!
Mr. Chow is a complete jerk. In my class the majority of the class had to drop and he seemed to be proud of it. He jammed a weeks worth of material in one short class and expected you to understand it. Test are straight forward but he grades pretty tough. The class average was a 60 and he did nothing to help us understand
Fun, considering it is a math class! He is an interesting teacher! Only 3 tests and the first 2 come before the drop date. He doesn't want anyone to get a bad grade on thier transcript. He gives partial credit on tests. Attendence is very important!
Puts little or no time into teaching. Spends most of the course time talking about himself.
Too much time spent on other topics. I learned more about how important the teacher is to this university then I did about statistics. A lot of favoritism--it is not hard to get an A if you spend time kissing up.
MA 110 is the lowest math offered and is not a prerequist to anything. With this in mind - it's an easy class and Mr. Chow keeps it that way. Simple and to the point. If you only need one math, you need an EASY class to keep hours up, or you are going back for a last math credit, I recommend him.
I took him online, what a bad experience. He is highly dissorganized, takes forever to answer emails, and to grade assignments. I had to work too had to get outstanding grades. I would not recommend taking this class with him online. It is really too much stress, too many assignments. He is not clear with his grading policies. What a weird class!
Easily one of my favorite all-time teachers at South. I had Dr. Chow (he was Mr. Chow then) for Business Calculus. I was initially terrified of the class because I'm bad at math, but he really took the time to make sure EVERYONE understood something before moving on. I made an 89 or so but he gave me an A because I was always in class. Take him!
He is a great teacher and fun to go to class. Material is hard but that was expected he is a great teacher and not so bad to look at either. I would recomend him to anyone who has to take calc
he is a very cool cat
The class was not bad, but do not expect to get any attention unless you play sports. Talks about football way too much. The material starts off easy and gets very very hard.
This teacher doesn't explain anything. He just talks about football games. You will have 4 tests and the final which inculding all the materials. I DO NOT recommed taking him anyway.
He seems kind of racy. When there's time left in class he talks a lot about sports and that gets on my nerves. He also seems a little sarcastic about things. But overall, his tests are not hard and he gives you study guides for each test that we have. There are only 3 exams the whole semester.
Great teacher. Gives LOTS of extra things to help grades. Stats sucks but if you have to take it, take Chow!
The material is not easy, but he tries the best he can. Do the homework and learn to work the problems, but before the test make sure to run through the notes, because there will be definitions for the M. C. on the test. He might not spend much time on def. but they are important. Do all extra credit and go to class!
Great guy who loves sports and school involvement. Spends a good chunk of class time talking about stuff like that. He's a little sarcastic but enjoys teaching and being around students. Works lots of examples and gives fair tests. Super easy class if you have had Cal. before. Doesnt pick favorites but does talk and joke with you if he knows you
Very difficult. Seems to enjoy watching the students struggle. Always has a smirk on his face when posting how low the class average test scores are. Brags about how difficult his tests are.
Enjoys watching the class fail his test. Likes finding new ways to take points off. Thinks he's Gods gift to teaching, but falls way short.
He now offers podcast for class lectures. This makes it easy to go back and watch and understand what he's explaining. He is pretty cool and keeps it "real". You have to apply your self do homework and come to the Sunday class reviews. ASK QUESTIONS HE WILL ANSWER THEM. I took his class twice and I did 50% the 2nd time applying myself.
Enjoyed him as a person, but tests are difficult. Went to every class and got extra credit points, but got an 89 and he would not bring to an A!
He is a very easy teacher. He offers bonus just to go to a sports event, at least he did when i took him. Very nice, take his class if you can.
Didn't like his podcast lectures at all, they were difficult to follow. If you don't watch them before you come to class you will be lost, which makes it easy to fall behind. He likes to call students out in class and God forbid you walk in late. But if you keep up with everything you will be fine, I still got an A
Loved Professor Chow! He made everything as simple as possible and worked out almost all the problems he assigned for homework before it was due. If you want to make an A attend class, do the homework and practice problems from the book. TAKE HIM :)
LOVE HIM! Highly recommend Dr. Chow!! He was very helpful, especially when i was confused. If you ask questions, he can help. dont sit quiet, he's got a great personality so take advantage of that! dont be discouraged at first, it gets easier!! :)
HORRIBLE Teacher! Test are too long to finish on time. Took online. Never answered emails in a one day span. Took him up to a week. DONT TAKE HIM!!!!!
He is an easy math teacher. He took attendance the first half of the semester but after that he never did again. We have had only one quiz which was open book/notes and he didn't pick it up. Does not put definitions on exam and exams are very similar to the study guide. He just changes the numbers up. I always learned the stuff before the exam.
He is a tool. He subjectively assigns 15% of your grade based on participation and attendance. However, he doesn't keep attendance and doesn't allow for much participation. So he uses the 15% go give students the grade he wants to give them. What a joke. If I would have had a low A there is no doubt in my mind he would have given me a B.
Business Stats was not easy atleast for me. However Dr. Chow worked with me endless. I'm glad I told his class. You will have to come to every class or you will be lost. Do the homework and ask lots of questions. You will pass if you at least attempt to get his help.
Dr. Chow is great! Math has always been my worst subject, but this class was an easy A because of his teaching. Do all the homework he gives you and you'll do fine. And for those who may be worried because of his name, he is VERY American.
I'm not a math person but this instructor showed how to use the rules for each different area we came to in the class. Mr. Chow is certainly an instructor you can take and actually understand Calculus.
Great teacher. never went to class made an A just listen to itunes lectures and show up on test days. take him if you have the chance.
Very clear very helpful easy A
WebClass.Never experienced SUCH a disconnect between prof & stdnt.Useless Syllabus. No class plan, schedule,or guidelines.Never knew what chapters to read.Every week, had a 2pg paper due, while having a 8-10pg report due at the end of the semester.Had papers due the week before and of the report due date.Weekly ForumPosts due.No tests.Midterm&Final.
This was a terrible online experience. No clue what was going on for the majority of the semester. Some weeks things would be due and some weeks they wouldnt, with not communication given to us either way. I can't believe they let him teach online courses.
Took class online. Horrible experience. No communication with class whatsoever. Did not provide any guidance for Midterm or Final Exam. Assignments and Forums would pop up randomly so it's required to check for new things every day. Comprehensive Final and yet again no advice and guidance from the professor. QMGT class with 0 quality itself.
His tests LITERALLY require you to do one calculation every 15 SECONDS to complete it on time. Idiotic, irrelevant videos. Made a 46 on the first test, which was review, whereas the SAME TEST in another class I made a 96 on! And does he blame himself? Of course not. His justification was far removed from anything logical. AVOID.
I'm an honors student and this is the worst instructor I've ever had. Shortly after the course begin I received verfication that I'm dieing. I went to him to try to make up work I missed. Submitted my medical records for proof. Asked him to give me time to make up what I had missed due to illness. He refused and instead gave me an "F".
if you can teach yourself, this class is no issue. I never bought the book and made an A. most concepts are on google. yes, the podcasts are annoying but that's what you have instead of lecture 3 times a week. always go to the review sessions that he holds the sunday before each exam.
HORRIBLE! I'm on the Dean's list, the lowest grade I've made in any math class I've taken at USA is a B. i missed 1 test online & begged him to make it up. he refused. The final was ridiculously hard. I didn't recognize 70% of the work. i made 100s,As on all the homework & quizzes, I even made a 100 on a test but i could not pass his class
Chow is amazing! Funny, very clear about what you will be tested on. He gave extra credit some. Holds study sessions the Sunday before the test. I took business stats online so only had class once a week. Don't get too behind because if you have a question you need to ask in class!
He is not bad as the previous before me says, I'm a C student & math is my worst subject but I came out of his class with an A. All you have to do is do your homework & write down the problem and answer & save it for the test because the test are online. Easy A just had to do the work!
Chow tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests and doesn't make you memorize formulas. Go to class every week for random extra credit. You have to teach yourself mostly if you take it online like me. It can be stressful but once you get it the tests won't be difficult. It's one of those hard classes but the teacher makes it not bad. Take chow for sure if you can!
If you take the online course, it requires complete, independent study. Don't expect him to tell you to do the forums or homework because he won't. This was fine by me, since I figured it would be like that to begin with. The homework is time consuming, but the tests follow the homework EXACTLY. Do the homework and you'll do fine.
Attendance isn't mandatory but GO!! Sometimes you will get bonus points. He also in class shows you the exact test problems!! Easy but you have to do your work and do it on time. He doesn't care, if it's late. Too bad. Overall great
Amazing teacher, just do what he says and you'll make a good grade
So easy just do the work and he curves the test I made a 45 on the last test after the curve it was a 70. Do the forum that's an easy 20% of your grade!
Chow is funny and nice! He gives out study guides for each test that really help. You do have to study, but if you want an A it's definitely attainable. I would recommend him to anyone.
Definitely one of the coolest teachers in the biz college I have met so far
Chow is useless as a teacher. You are teaching yourself stats. The tests are hard but after he curves them its hard not to get a B. DO THE FORUM. Its NOT in the syllabus, and he WONT tell you to do it but it is graded, not that that makes any sense. Homework is easy. Easy class, dumb teacher.
If you are not good at statistics do not take it online. He will help you if you email him but there are no online power points. The forums may/may not be in the syllabus but it's silly to have not checked just to be sure. Homework + Tests + Forums. He curves the tests a lot & replaces your lowest grade with the Final exam grade if it's higher.
Dr. Chow did not help me at all while I took the class online during the summer. He would always say email him if you had any questions but he never responded to any of my questions that I asked. I also asked someone else did he respond to their questions and he didnt. I had to work really hard to pass the class with a C.
Professor Chow teaches all the essentials, leaving out fluff. His exams are the study guide with different numbers. Go to class and don't be rude and you will pass. He answers your questions before progressing, so ask now not later.
I was deathly afraid of statistics, but I really worked hard in this class and it payed off. My highest grade ever in math. He is very helpful and offers study sessions before a test. great teacher, would take again.
Great teacher that understands a students struggle. Wants his students to be successful and also realizes that his class is a business prerequisite. Gives you a broad understanding of his Stats class but also knows most people won"t be using most of this math in the future.
Chow is very clear about what will be tested on. He gives study guides for all tests. Look at the podcasts and lectures in the media gallery if you have problems with the homework. DO the homework, that's how you'll learn the material. Class time is for clarification and narcissism. Get the ONLINE book.
He is very helpful and works well with peoples schedules. He is very straightforward on what needs to be covered and the textbook that is used is very helpful. Take this class for sure!!!!!!
He makes the class very interesting. He gives the class opportunities to get extra credit. It isn't an EASY A type of class, but if you pay attention it isn't that bad. He's one of those laid back but not a pushover kind of professor. I recommend him highly and would rate him a 9/10. Also, I would recommend only buying the online code.
If you go to class, do your homework, and go to his study session, you can obtain an A in the class.
One of my favorite teachers at South. He's very clear about what's going to be on his tests. What he says is going to be on there is basically there word for word. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives LOTS of bonus points so you should really go. I got an 86 in the class and I'm not the best at math so that's saying a lot.
He is not a good teacher. But he does offer a study session before the test that is extremely helpful. I would recommend you to take him. Easy A or B
Professor Chow isn't difficult. Attendance isn't mandatory but it doesn't hurt to go because he goes over the homework and also has study sessions for the test. Tests are easy because its pretty much straight from the homework. If you go to class Chow will pretty much tell you what is gonna be on the test. All lectures are online.
I had him for math 7 years ago and it was one of the EASIEST classes I had because there were virtually no equations involved. It was almost all probability and statistics. It was a decent class overall that I somehow got a b in despite having a d
Dr. Chow was a great business statistics I professor. He will meet students before the tests and answer questions and go over the study guide. He will tell you what type of questions will be on the test and gives you the formulas that will be used on the tests.
I took this class online, and I would advise not doing that at all. Mr. Chow barely communicated with us at all, and we were forced to teach literally everything to ourselves. I realize you have to do that to some extent with an online class, but hearing how easy his in class stats is, I can say it definitely doesn't transfer over online.
Dr. Chow is a great stats professor. I took the seated class. Homework was all online and an easy percent of your grade. He tells you everything that's going to be on the test. The tests consist of problems and multiple choice but the main portion comes from working the problems. Do the homework and practice the problems and you will get an A.
Dr. Chow is a great instructor. He understands statistics isn't the funnest thing to learn about and that most students are in his class because they have to be not because they want to. That being said, he tells you the minimal things to do that will get you a good grade in his class upfront. Any class he is teaching, take it. You won't regret it.
very good and clear, easy to pass. just do as he tells you and you're good
A really good professor, he gives extra credit opportunities. He doesn't require attendance but it helps to go.
If you complete the work and do what you're supposed to, you'll pass. Tutoring is always available. Great professor and gives quick feedback on tests and other work.
Chow is an overall good professor, has VERY clear policies, and while attendance isn't mandatory, YOU SHOULD GO, not only because he gives extra credit and that's how you learn the material, but even though you'll be in a class with about 70 other people, he remembers the faces that show up. Overall, pay attention, do the work, and you're good.
Proffesor Chow teaches Stats 1 so obviously the course can be difficul. He gives a good amount of extra credit and always has a good story to tell. His lectures are very enjoyable, and it will be an easy A if you go to class. He clearly describes the material at hand and will help out with any problems you might have with your homework.
Get ready to learn everything on your own.
Dr. Chow's class was never boring. If you attend class and listen, it's an easy A. His teaching is not the best but he always mentioned what was gonna be on the exams. He gave out a lot of bonus points. You need the Access code which can be used for stats 2. He doesn't usually respond to emails. The online quizzes and highlights are important.
I struggled a lot with this class, BUT I also took it online. He didn't communicate with us very well I had to teach myself everything because he didn't post notes. I do not recommend this class online. From what I have heard, he is MUCH BETTER in person.
BEWARE VISUAL LEARNERS! When he does introduce a topic he rarely works out full problems on the board and would rather partially tell you what he is doing verbally. He also spends well over half the class telling you his "funny" stories and telling you how many people will fail instead of really teaching, so be ready to teach yourself EVERYTHING.
Chow is a great professor just go to class and I promise he will appreciate you being there and his lectures are involved and he answers questions well. The best advice i could provide for this course is go!
He likes to tell stories during class. For the first 2 tests you don't really have to go to class to understand what's going on, but the class gets progressively harder after test 2. Tests are online
i took this class blended and loved it. homework problems are also test questions. tests are online and you can use your notes. it helps to go to class but attendance isn't mandatory. he goes on a lot of tangents in class but he's hilarious! taking him again for BUS 255!
Professor Chow is a solid choice for this class. He likes when people show up to class so I would show up to class because he is more likely to help you if you show that you care about his class. He does tend to go off on tangents in class, but most of the time his stories are really funny. His exams are online and you can use your notes!
You have to teach yourself everything from the yellow highlights on McGraw Hill. Clicking through the questions in the chapter take hours on top of homework. When class time comes around you can ask questions but his unexplained answers just confuse you more. He is funny but that isn't going to help me graduate and neither is teaching myself.
take his online classes! He doesnt use lockdown.
YOU NEED TO GO TO CLASS. attendance is taken at random via pop quizzes. exams are done on your own time without lockdown browser. will not help you unless he has chosen you as his favorite. gives off the vibe that he doesn't want you to pass the class.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE IS VERY DISRESPECTFUL TOWARDS HIS STUDENTS AND EVEN CALLED ONE OF MY CLASSMATES FAT. HE IS NOT A NICE TEACHER IN ANY WAY AND MAKES THE EXAMS MUCH HARDER THAN THEY NEED TO BE. 1/5
Honestly, I thought he would be a good teacher, but I was wrong. He is a very tough grader and takes points away for things you would not normally get credits taken away from. I would not take him again. If possible, avoid taking his classes as much as you can. He is horrible
This man is not good at teaching. He saids one thing, but the textbook saids another. Very confusing, and makes the exams very tough. He is also a tough grader. Would not recommend taking him.
The class was very easy because it was online. The assignments were self explanatory will have to do some math. The due dates of everything was made aware to everyone ahead of time. If you fail this class online you did not try at all or use your external resources! Very easy grade.
Dr. Chow is a very confusing teacher. The things he talks about during class and the information in the online textbook do not align as well. It's very hard to learn the materials with him. In addition, he is not good with his office hours. Many times, he's there, other times he's not. I would not recommend taking his classes.
Very tough grader. He basically expects you to be an expert in the field. If you are doing this course for an easy A, this is not the right class for you.
Dr. Chow is a very funny guy and will help you if you ask for it. However, he doesn't do very in depth lectures as he expects you to do readings and videos on your own time in order to learn the material. For the first course it wasn't too bad, I would just say prepare if you take him for a higher level class. Show up and you will do fine.
He is a very tough grader and does not explain the ideas very clearly. Do not take him if you are trying to get an easy-A. In fact, try to take. someone else for your course.
He is not the greatest. Does not teach in class. He mainly tells stories and then gives a quiz as an attendance grade. Good luck teaching yourself!
He doesn't teach you at all. He gives you some materials and sets you off on your own. You still have to go to every class but you kinda just sit there and listen to his stories or him bragging about himself. Again he teaches absolutely nothing.
The class is challenging, but using unstuck AI alongside the textbook can really help. Professor Chow expects a lot of self-learning, but he's funny and will assist if you ask. Attend class and you'll likely do well.
His teaching style is to not teach at all. Basically, just get ready to teach yourself everything. He was not helpful at all. He is also a very rude person. I would tell him good morning every day and all he would do is just look at me and not say anything. Wouldn't even give me a smile. So good luck with taking him and again with teaching yourself
He doesn't really teach. I can see how other people can struggle, but for me he was alright. Go to the tutoring sessions, and they'll give you templates for the exams. If you know how to use them, you don't really have to do much. GO TO CLASS, he gives quizzes every week, it's free points, he goes over the answers after you take it.
Chow doesn't really teach in class, but if you utilize the tutors they will get you to where you need to be. He was kind of judgmental as well when I asked for help. He's clear he don't play about cheating so don't every try. He does pop quizzes but if you show up you will get 100% because he goes over answers and lets you change them. Go to class!
